Ray Davies presents Americana, his first solo album since 2008's Working Man's Cafe. The album is based around Davies' recent memoir, Americana: The Kinks, the Riff, the Road: The Story. The record includes spoken-word portions from the book.

The singer recruited an American band, the Jayhawks, to support him on the album, which was recorded in London at Konk. Guy Massey and John Jackson helped Davies with production.

    Muswell Hillbillies

Muswell Hillbillies is the ninth studio album by the English rock group The Kinks. The album is named after the Muswell Hill area of North London, where band leader Ray Davies and guitarist Dave Davies grew up and the band formed in the early 1960s. The album centered on themes of poverty and working-class life, as well as the destruction and subdivision of old Victorian neighborhoods-a practice that had become commonplace in North London during the 1970s.

    Who Is The Sender

Bill Fay is one the greats" - Nick Cave

"The humble master of English song" - Uncut

"Bill Fay is now regarded as one of the great British songwriters" - MOJO

"A talent undimmed by decades away from the studio" - Guardian

Ask Bill Fay about his relationship with his instrument and he says something revealing, not "Ever since I learnt to play the piano," but "Ever since the piano taught me " What the piano taught him was how to connect to one of the great joys of his
life. "Music gives," he says. And he is a grateful receiver. But, it makes him wonder, "Who is the sender?" Fay - who after more than five decades writing songs is finally being appreciated as one of our finest living practitioners of the art - asserts that
songs aren't actually written but found. He recorded two phenomenal but largely
overlooked albums for Decca offshoot Nova in 1970 and 1971. After 27 years of neglect, people like Nick Cave, Jim O' Rourke, and Jeff Tweedy were praising those records in glowing terms. Recorded in Ray Davies' Konk Studios, North London, Who Is The Sender? sees Bill expanding upon themes he has touched on from the
beginning, spiritual and philosophical questions, observations about the natural world and the people in the city he has lived in all his life.

    Everybody's In Show-Biz

    4-Panel Gatefold

    150 Gram Vinyl

Two Inserts: Original Lyric Sheet Plus Second Insert With Bonus Track Info

Contains The Original 2-LP Plus A Third LP With 9 Previously Unreleased Live And Studio Tracks

First released in August 1972, Everybody's In Show-Biz was The Kinks' tenth studio album, arriving within a year of the acclaimed Muswell Hillbillies (the group's debut album for RCA Records). The original double-LP Everybody's In Show-Biz contained a complete studio album (which premiered the all-time Kinks classic Celluloid Heroes among other tracks) and a live disc chronicling The Kinks' Carnegie Hall appearance in March 1972.

The 2016 Legacy Edition of Everybody's In Show-Biz includes the original album, produced by Raymond Douglas Davies, in its entirety alongside a full disc's worth of previously unissued studio sessions outtakes (recorded for the album in 1972 at Morgan Studios, Willesden, London) and live material (recorded March 2-3, 1972 during The Kinks' triumphant Carnegie Hall concert run).

The new edition of Everybody's In Show-Biz includes in-depth liner notes penned especially for this release by noted rock scholar David Fricke.

A concept album of sorts, Everybody's In Show-Biz drew its themes and inspirations from the trials, tribulations and triumphs of life as a touring musician. (The raucous Carnegie Hall recordings on the album come from one of the first North American concerts performed by The Kinks after the lift of a four-year ban imposed on the group by the American Federation of Musicians in 1965.) The songs on Everybody's In Show-Biz were initially intended to serve as the soundtrack to The Colossal Shirt, a never-realized feature film about The Kinks on the road.

Life keeps using me, keeps on abusing me, mentally and physically, Davies sings on the album's Maximum Consumption. I gotta stay fit, stay alive, need fuel inside, eat food to survive . Stylistically, Everybody's in Show-Biz finds Davies further exploring his interest in Americana-inspired musical arrangements as heard on Muswell Hillbillies.

Everybody's In Show-Biz showcases the second great classic Kinks line-up: frontman Ray Davies, guitarist Dave Davies, bassist John Dalton, keyboardist John Gosling and drummer Mick Avory, joined by brass and woodwind players Mike Cotton, John Beecham and Alan Holmes (all of whom played on Muswell Hillbillies).

The Carnegie Hall recordings include a variety of Kinks originals in addition to unconventional covers including Mr. Wonderful (from the Sammy Davis Jr.-led musical of the same name), the 1920s popular standard Baby Face (made famous by Al Jolson) and The Banana Boat Song (a calypso-folk perennial popularized by Harry Belafonte).

The new Legacy Edition of Everybody's In Show-Biz includes never-before-heard live versions of Sunny Afternoon, Get Back in Line, Complicated Life and the rarely-played Long Tall Shorty as well as alternate versions of Supersonic Rocket Ship, Unreal Reality and the debut release of History, which foreshadowed The Kinks' next concept album, 1973's Preservation Act 1.

    Life Is People (Awaiting Repress)

Bill Fay is one of English music's best kept secrets. At the dawn of the 1970s, he was a one-man song factory, with a piano that spilled liquid gold and a voice every bit the equal of Ray Davies, John Lennon, early Bowie, or Procol Harum's Gary Brooker.

He made two solo albums but his contract wasn't renewed, which left his LPs and his reputation to become cult items. But he never stopped writing, the music kept on coming.

Now, in his late sixties, he has produced Life Is People, a brand new studio album that shows his profoundly humanist vision is as strong as it ever was.

Expanded Edition - Includes 2 Bonus Tracks

    10 year anniversary re-issue

Sleeve notes by none other than Jack White III

Often cited as perhaps her best solo album Truly She Is None Other was recorded in 2002/3 at Toe-Rag Studios by Liam Watson and features the song 'Tell Me Now So I Know' which was picked for the main title theme for Jim Jarmush's 'Broken Flowers' movie.

Among the nine Holly originals the album features two Ray Davies songs ('Time Will Tell' & 'Tell Me Now So I Know'), along with 'There's An End', (penned by her friend Craig Fox from The Greenhornes.) There's also a fine version of Jessie Mae Robinson's 'Black Night', a song most famously covered by Muddy Waters.

Backed by the cream of Toe-Rag's in house musicians, this is Holly Golightly at her finest. With sleeve notes by none other than Jack White III.

    Konk

Long out of print but now available on vinyl again! The second album from The Kooks, 'Konk' was recorded over a six week period in 2007 in Ray Davies' Konk Studios in north London, plus a week at Los Angeles' Sound Factory. The sessions once again united the group with esteemed producer Tony Hoffer (Beck/Air/The Fratellis). 'Konk' features twelve tracks. There's 'Gap' which is classic Kooks, and 'Shine On' which finds Luke exploring hitherto unchartered lyrical territory over the loveliest of melodies. First single 'Always Where I Need To Be' is a tumbling rocker with a 'do-do-do, do-do-do-do' refrain that might just be the catchiest thing they've ever done. 'Sway' and 'Mr. Maker' are other album highlights.

    The Inner Mystique (Awaiting Repress)

Sundazed is totally stoked to announce the reissue of the first two albums by the Chocolate Watch Band, high on everyones list as one of the most exciting garage bands ever. Hailing from San Jose, California, the Watch Bandfeaturing the pouting, Mick Jagger-influenced lead vocals of Dave Aguilar, the thrilling guitars of Sean Tolby and Mark Loomis, the solid bass of Bill Flores and the thumping drums of Gary Andrijasevichmade all the right scenes in San Jose, including appearances with South Bay chart-toppers the Syndicate of Sound and Count Five.

The Inner Mystique, the Watch Bands follow-up LP, puts you in the middle of a hippie ballroom with legendary producer Ed Cobbs instrumental Voyage of the Trieste and In the Past, which use enough psychedelic guitar, electric sitar and exotic shakers and rattles to grow your hair at least two inches overnight. Ray Davies Im Not Like Everybody Else sounds like it was written just for the Watch Band, and Dylans Its All Over Now, Baby Blue is a jingle-jangle masterpiece.

Best known for the lush 1961 rendition of the ballad ''At Last'' - a slow-dance staple at wedding celebrations everywhere, she is also celebrated for having recorded one of the best live albums of all time, ''Rocks the House.'' Texas Hurricane

Mastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Sterling Sound

What if. What if everything that you have come to know and worship about the sonic superiority of Quality Record Pressings LPs could be brought to bear on one of the rockingest powerhouses of blues guitar who ever lived?

Then your wish is granted. We're about to rock your world with the greatest Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute ever reissued: Six of Vaughan's most classic album titles combined in the ultimate box set for ultimate blues and guitar fanatics!

With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush and Hubert Sumlin and rock & roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. Vaughan bridged the gap between blues and rock like no other artist had since the late '60s. For about seven years, Stevie Ray Vaughan was the leading light in American blues, consistently selling out concerts while his albums regularly went gold. His tragic death in 1990 only emphasized his influence in blues and American rock & roll.

This is classic Stevie Ray Vaughan, meticulously remastered from the analog tapes by New York's Sterling Sound. In each set you'll receive Texas Flood, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Soul to Soul, In Step, plus the posthumous classics Family Style and The Sky Is Crying.

Those of you familiar with our previous LP box sets - Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, Creedence Clearwater Revival - and soon to come, The Doors - know how deluxe these sets are. From the detailed liner notes to the rarest photographs, these sets will truly be gems.

For those with an audiophile passion and a pocketbook on a budget, the 331/3 LP set satisfies like no other. The box set will be pressed on 200 gram vinyl at QRP, lauded for its vinyl manufacturing excellence.

Each LP set will come housed in deluxe gatefold jackets that include rarely published, intimate photos - a look inside the career of a legend whose death at age 35 shocked the music world. A few statistics showcase Vaughan's success and musical influence: His debut album Texas Flood, reached No. 38 on the charts, crossing over to rock radio stations. The album's succesor, Couldn't Stand the Weather, released in May 1984, reached No. 31 on the charts; by the end of 1985 it went gold. Vaughan and his band, Double Trouble, recorded their third album, Soul to Soul, released in August 1985, and it reached No. 34 on the charts.

    Texas Flood (Pure Pleasure)

It's hard to overestimate the impact Stevie Ray Vaughan's debut, Texas Flood, had upon its release in 1983. At that point, blues was no longer hip, the way it was in the '60s. Texas Flood changed all that, climbing into the Top 40 and spending over half a year on the charts, which was practically unheard of for a blues recording. Vaughan became a genuine star and, in doing so, sparked a revitalization of the blues. This was a monumental impact, but his critics claimed that, no matter how prodigious Vaughan's instrumental talents were, he didn't forge a distinctive voice; instead, he wore his influences on his sleeve, whether it was Albert King's pinched yet muscular soloing or Larry Davis' emotive singing. There's a certain element of truth in that, but that was sort of the point of Texas Flood. Vaughan didn't hide his influences; he celebrated them, pumping fresh blood into a familiar genre.

When Vaughan and Double Trouble cut the album over the course of three days in 1982, he had already played his set lists countless times; he knew how to turn this material inside out or goose it up for maximum impact. The album is paced like a club show, kicking off with Vaughan's two best self-penned songs, Love Struck Baby and Pride and Joy, then settling into a pair of covers, the slow-burning title track and an exciting reading of Howlin' Wolf's Tell Me, before building to the climax of Dirty Pool and I'm Crying. Vaughan caps the entire thing with Lenny, a lyrical, jazzy tribute to his wife.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

This (LP) reissue of a Max Roach Riverside date is notable for featuring the great young trumpeter Booker Little and for utilizing Ray Draper's tuba as a melody instrument; tenor saxophonist George Coleman and bassist Art Davis complete the excellent quintet. Highlights include It's You or No One, You Stepped out of a Dream and Roach's unaccompanied drum piece Conversation. Original 1980 Soundtrack

First Pressing Of 2000 Numbered Copies On Blue Vinyl

Comic actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd rightfully get credit for exposing many people to the music of Blues and R&B veterans. The soundtrack to their hugely successful musical comedy Blues Brothers was released on June 20, 1980 as the second album by the Blues Brothers Band, which also toured that year to promote the film.

The rollicking remake of the Spencer Davis Group's Gimme Some Lovin' was a Billboard Top 20 hit, featuring an arrangement notable for the horn section that replaces Steve Winwood's rumbling organ work. Ray Charles has a good time with Shake a Tail Feather, and he's helped out by Jake and Elwood Blues (Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively). The cover of Solomon Burke's Everybody Needs Somebody to Love is a lot of fun, thanks to the great overall rhythm and Elwood's lightning-fast stage rap, while James Brown and the Reverend James Cleveland Choir provide a blast of gospel music on Old Landmark. Aretha Franklin's Think is explosive, and Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher is slyly irresistible.

The Piano Scene Of Ahamd Jamal (Speaker Corner)

The early recordings made by Ahmad Jamal for the Epic label have disappeared into the annals of jazz history. His trio with bass and drums, however, was certainly a whole lot more famous in clubs, at festivals and in TV shows in the Fifties. The present LP contains twelve numbers performed by a trio composed of a guitar and bass or drums - Ray Crawford, Eddie Calhoun, Walter Perkins only being known to a handful of jazz fans - and only a few compositions of his own, most titles are favourites from musicals of the day. Ahmad Jamal reveals the influence of Art Tatum and Nat King Cole in his performance, whereby his masterly art and independent style is already recognizable. The trios are quite unique in themselves, although the hierarchy is unchangeable: Ahmad Jamal is and remains the boss; he performs the majority of the solos.

A special highlight is surely the first version of Billy Boy. And not only Miles Davis praised the pianist for his technical prowess and wealth of ideas. Aki And Ukthay (Brother and Sister) also offers the possibility to admire Jamal's pianistic proficiency. What a good idea to bring out these early recordings once more for jazz lovers! Especially because the Epic label is truly underestimated in the record market. The recording quality is absolutely impeccable - a true listener's gem.

    • Ahmad Jamal (piano)

    • Ray Crawford (guitar)

    • Eddie Calhoun (bass)

    • Walter Perkins (drums)

    Sings the Blues (Speakers Corner)

In both her public and private life, Nina Simone was adamant about one thing, namely, what she simply would not tolerate. She sometimes complained about the miserable erotic prowess of her lovers, while at other times her audience were a target for her tongue. Sometimes she cancelled her performances at short notice and held a tirade against show business as such. In her music, rooted in gospel, she sought a path which took her down a middle course between jazz and pop, thus earning her the title of High Priestess Of Soul (as in the LP title) with her rock fans in the Sixties.

The present blues album was recorded during what was undisputedly her most productive phase. It is a recording which does not swim with the tide of the times in that it does not employ massive forces or seek the twang of electrification. Instead Nina Simone's wonderfully sleek contralto voice bathes in the gentle timbre of an organ and a pithy, pulsating - but by no means stomping - rhythm. The cool, unemotional number "Sings The Blues" guarantees riveting tension and the authenticity of the genre which is, of course, the be all and end all of music for every black artist. Surely no compilation, no matter how carefully conceived, could possibly mark the diva's 70th birthday in February and sudden death in April 2203 better than this re-release.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

El Is A Sound Of Joy/Black Sky and Blue Moon (Awaiting Repress)

Shining sounds from the dawn of the Sun Ra Arkestra. El is A Sound of Joy was recorded in 1956 and appeared the following year on the very first Saturn LP, Super-Sonic Jazz. Incredible is the fact that saxophonist Charles Davis, here providing the soulful baritone anchor line (counterpoint to Ra's formidable left hand), remains in the front-line of today's Sun Ra Arkestra directed by Marshall Allen. Shuffle swing breakdown jets leisurely, casually, masterfully, painting lush, post-modern impressions of ancient future worlds, of space, of time of Chicago's elevated trains Reaching for the sky, for Joy . The "Joy" coda dovetails magically into the intro theme of Black Sky And Blue Moon, before downshifting into another dimension of romantic outrospection.

We follow The Nu Sounds, aka Cosmic Rays, on a faraway journey to the land of late-50s Chicago singing groups, the Arkestra supporting with quiet grace, pulsing in Nubians of Plutonia mode. An uncanny blend of antique blackness and bright satellites, ethereal voices perfectly in tune; thanks to Ra's disciplined coaching (plus Modern Harmonic's expert re-mastering), their sweet dynamics and exact harmonics are crystal clear. Flute solo from Marshall Allen. Hearts swelling like the full moon, ripening in the darkness to the point of bursting.
