Pop Art Live (Pre-Order)Having waited this long to witness the impossible-Raspberries live-we showed up two hours early, parking our car in the empty parking lot . . . [and] moments before the house lights went down, we looked at each other and said the words that we never thought we would ever say: 'We're at a Raspberries concert.' Then it began . . . -Ken Sharp and Bernie Hogya from the liner notes to Pop Art Live.
November 26, 2004, the stage was set for a reunion most thought could never happen-the Raspberries Live In Concert! Over 30 years since the original four members of Raspberries last played together, Pop Art Live captures opening night, at Cleveland's House of Blues, as never before! You will experience the power and magic that led the group to a successful reunion tour in 2005. Founding members Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson, David Smalley, and Jim Bonfanti powerfully muscle through 28 slices of pure rock 'n' roll heaven, bringing to life the legacy of power pop's founding fathers.
Brilliantly mixed by longtime Raspberries' associate Tommy Allen, the Midwestern quartet has never sounded this good! Pop Art Live contains live versions of songs from all four of the Raspberries' classic original studio albums including the hits Go All The Way, I Wanna Be With You, Let's Pretend, and Overnight Sensation (Hit Record) as well as perfect renditions of timeless favorites by The Beatles and The Who.
The Raspberries are one of rock's most treasured bands influencing everyone from John Lennon to Bruce Springsteen to Paul Westerberg!. Pop Art Live is an essential document of that band, providing another chapter to their lasting impact! The Raspberries Live . . .they said it would never happen . . . they were wrong.LP 1

The matching Mod suits, trim haircuts, and youthful appearance weren't just for play. The Raspberries' looks extended to their irresistibly catchy and refreshingly concise music, a blend of bouncy Britpop, lazy-day psychedelia, mellifluous pop, and crunch arena rock that stands apart from the epic pomposity of most of the early 70s' commercial trends and continues to linger as some of the most expertly crafted sounds ever created. Over the course of four albums, the singles-minded group cut their share of memorable sides. They're all here on this 1976 compilation. And now, they possess a fidelity that even the original LPs lacked.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's internationally renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Label LP extracts more information from the grooves, extending the spaces between instruments and breathing newfound life into the swirling vocal harmonies. The group's trademark singing is airier, the highs free of constraints, and the string-laden accents enriched with natural decay. Improved, too, are the quartet's amplifier-driven chords and frisky drumming, aspects that possess a palpable crunch typical of British Invasion acts.
Adept at both gorgeous devotional ballads and upbeat, fist-pumping rockers, the Raspberries claim a multifaceted talent in leader Eric Carmen, a crooner whose capacity to turn on a dime from a sweet falsetto to searing cry infuses the band's tunes with emotional exuberance and bittersweet weight. He lends sentimental grace to epic piano weepers such as "Don't Want to Say Goodbye" and amiable snarl to carefree numbers like "I Wanna Be With You." However, the Raspberries' greatest asset relates to their harmonic prowess.
Multi-part group vocals on bounding, surf-referencing fare ("Drivin' Around") and catchy, summery material ("Tonight") recall both the Beach Boys and Beatles. Yet the Raspberries bring a unique edge and R&B-etched rhythm to tunes that stand as proto power-pop staples. Thematically, the ensemble keeps lyrics as simple and memorable as its hooks, with a majority of songs speaking to the pleasures of romance and love. Breezy, fun, and indelible, it's music that never goes out of style.

She's So Unusual (On Sale)Ranked 494/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
She Bop: 1984 Commercial Blockbuster Combines Mainstream Hooks, Self-Assertive Confidence, and Whimsical Attitude
A True Original: Lauper Bridges Rebellious New-Wave, Giddy Pop, and Girlish Vocals
Back on Vinyl for 1st Time in Decades: Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renown Mastering System and Pressed at RTI
Includes Top 5 Anthems Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Time After Time
Forget, for a moment, about the gypsy clothes, raspberry-pink hair, costume jewelry, and hyperactive behavior. No female artists debut better epitomized MTVs vivid heyday and the smart intersection of self-reliant female politics, savvy hooks, and vibrant imagery than Cyndi Laupers Shes So Unusual. Long before Lady Gaga, and before Madonna embraced any traits resembling punk, the New York native ushered in a new wave of commercial pop while flaunting an exuberant confidence that, overnight, influenced a generation to dye their hair and embrace life with newfound vibrancy. Girls, indeed, just wanted to have fun.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys internationally acclaimed mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Label LP rescues the music from long-standing harshness and disadvantageous brittleness. Back on vinyl for the first time in decades, the multi-platinum 1984 blockbuster sounds completely anew, possessing crisper beats, a fleshed-out midrange, no artificial ceilings, and a clear alleyway to Laupers girlish voice. Finally, the sonics possess the wide spectrum of colors that flavor the songs.
Helmed by the anthem Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Shes So Unusual transformed pop culture by way of Laupers charismatic personality, whimsical attitude, lively performances, unique timbre, witty humor, and unabated passion. Throughout, shes a whirlwind of emotion and cyclone of spirit, tackling insouciant party tracks with the same verve she sings arresting ballads. And while for most it would be a deterrent, Lauper sculpts her chirpy, bop-friendly voice to her advantage, underscoring each songs combination of sentimentality and seditiousness.
With a voice that combined the cartoon soul of Little Eva and the wink-wink naughtiness of Betty Boop, Lauper may have backed away from the depth or urgency of the writers whose work she mainstreamed, but her transformation of their power into sheer pop was ultimately subversive giggling all the way, she incited legions of mall rats into orange-hair rebellion and a measure of self-assertion, wrote Paul Evans for The New Rolling Stone Album Guide, hinting at the records normally unseen depth.
Whether viewed as a subversive new-wave crossover statement or simply as a celebratory declaration of individualism (or, both), Shes So Unusual is an 80s landmark and influential harbinger of the role women would play in both rock and pop.

White Noise BedComprised of guitarist/vocalist Stanton McConnell, drummer Steven Plock, bassist Otto Stuparitz and Tommy Trafton on keyboards, Santah met at the University of Illinois and with their debut full-length record, White Noise Bed, they have assembled a kaleidoscopic opus whose reach extends far beyond the Midwest.
Recorded at the late Jay Bennett's Pieholden Studios, where the band found its niche among the studio's forbearers of psychedelic Americana, White Noise Bed has a yin and yang aesthetic: sometimes sunny and sometimes stormy, but always running on audible elation. The band takes its cues from the power pop greats of the '70s such as The Raspberries and The Cars, and dresses them in a twangy haze, full of clever, lyrical nooks and crannies ala Wilco and Whiskeytown.1. Space WranglerWidespread Panic's first album, originally released on a tiny Atlanta, GA label. This reissue boasts three new tracks, one of them a lengthy medley; more to the point, it's a remarkably confident album that belies its tiny budget. Glazin'The Jacuzzi Boys are guitarist/vocalist Gabriel Alcala, drummer Diego Monasterios and bassist Danny Gonzalez, three dudes from South Florida, bright as neon and fun as hell. After forming the band in 2007 and accruing a handful of 45s, the group released the LP No Seasons on Floridas Dying (located in nearby Orlando, FL) in 2009. Now, in 2011, we have Glazin, their second full-length and first for Hardly Art.
For Glazin, the group traveled to Key Club Studios in Benton Harbor, MI where they spent twelve full days recording and mixing. The Jacuzzi Boys used this as an opportunity to dig deeper into the production of each song. If the first record was the Everglades, the follow-up is Dadeland Mall, says Alcala. This is also true sonically, while No Seasons was a primal wallop, Glazin has the slight sheen of a studio environment. Moving beyond the beauty and harshness inherent in a life spent within a single climate, Glazin instead offers a take on the culture that surrounds that environment: girls, cruising, air conditioning and raspberry feelings.1. The Mechanics Of Hovering FlightIn a year of constant touring with her many projects, Kendl Winter has taken her love of superstition to the birds, literally: bluebirds mean good luck, chickadees mean call home, and a whippoorwills morning song is a sign of a good day. And so it follows that she would name The Mechanics of Hovering Flight, her second full-length K Records release, for the hummingbird and its opposing ideas of flight and motionlessness. A traveler, a dreamer, a banjo player, Kendl sprouts alfalfa beans in mason jars in the back of her tour van and counts the days until she returns home to her house boat to write songs on her banjo through the rainy afternoons.
Growing out of her previous release, Apple Core, some songs on The Mechanics of Hovering Flight are folk. Some are bluegrass. Some smack a bit more of country, with twangy guitar and foot-stomping rhythm, but somehow Kendl has created an album that is one moving piece, that tells a story between the liner notes. Perhaps it is her voice. Unwavering, at times haunting, Kendls song reminds one of the legendary Lucinda Williams. Perhaps its her pure dedication to writing the perfect song that serves her so well, to write a song that plays to the seasons, to the harvest, and speaks to the truth about life. About love. About the simple love of a singer and her banjo.
Recorded with Calvin Johnson at Dub Narcotic Studios, the 13-songs of The Mechanics of Hovering Flight are fluid and rich. In line with her organic vision, Kendl invited her friends to record and sing on many tracks. Her partner Joe Capoccia plays bass, Austin Cooper and Kevin Raspberry play the drums, Derek Johnson plays cello and buddy Pam Margon plays fiddle. Their joy and spirit of community are palpable, even in the darker songs of the album. But it is Kendl who is storyteller, who takes the listener by the ears and holds them, captivated, until she is finished.1. Summertime
