    Fania records founder Jerry Masucci nurtured a group of musicians who collectively defined the New York-based Latin American dance music called salsa. Masucci packaged his stars in touring revues patterned after the R&B revues mounted by Motown, Stax/Volt and others. The Fania All Stars could thus play such large venues as Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden, promoting both their individual careers and recordings such as Rhythm Machine, which features some big-name jazz guests.     Child Is Father to the Man is the debut album by Blood, Sweat & Tears. Originally released in February 1968, the album cover was considered quite innovative showing the band members sitting and standing with child-sized versions of themselves.


    Blood, Sweat & Tears was originally formed by Al Kooper. Members included at time of recording were Randy Brecker on trumpet, Bobby Colomby on drums, Steve Katz on guitar and Jim Fielder on bass amongst others. Child Is Father to the Man reached number 47 on Billboard's pop album chart and is considered an album which draws in folk, blues and jazz elements fusing with rock.

    Nowadays acclaimed as Lou Reed's best solo album, 'Berlin' is the follow up to Reed's 'Transformer'.
    A tragic rock opera about a drug addicted couple, heavy orchestrated and musically far away from the glam-rock of 'Transformer' and closer to the art-rock of the Velvet Underground (there are 2 tracks here played live by Velvet Underground in 1966, and Caroline Says is of course a redo of Stephanie Says from Velvet Underground's self- titled album).


    The album got poor reviews when released in July 1973. Nevertheless, like good wines, 'Berlin' has aged and proved an inspiration for many bands.


    Lou Reed got so disillusioned by the harsh critics, he did not include songs form 'Berlin' (recorded in London w/Bob Ezrin) in his live set for years.


    In 2007 Lou Reed fulfilled his hopes and toured 'Berlin' with a 30-piece band; this tour was filmed and released on dvd in 2008 (which got rave reviews...).

    Although they would go on to become one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s, most observers agree that Blood, Sweat & Tears 1968 debut effort Child Is Father to the Man remains the ambitious ensembles finest and most enduring musical statement. The bands only album under the leadership of legendary singer / keyboardist Al Kooper, Child Is Father to the Man stands with such late-60s art-pop landmarks as the Zombies Odessey and Oracle and Loves Forever Changes in capturing the periods seemingly limitless creative possibilities.
    Child Is Father to the Man is a brilliant reflection of the desire of Koopera former member of the seminal Blues Project and a key collaborator in Bob Dylans early electric workto use an expanded instrumental lineup to explore a broader range of sounds, styles and compositional approaches. Towards that end, he launched Blood, Sweat & Tears, recruiting a stellar assortment of players from the worlds of rock and jazz, including ex-Blues Project guitarist Steve Katz, former Buffalo Springfield/Mothers of Invention bassist Jim Fielder, jazz drummer Bobby Colomby and noted jazz horn players Randy Brecker, Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius and Jerry Weiss.


    The resulting album (produced by fabled studio genius John Simon) was a seamlessly eclectic psychedelic-rock-jazz-classical fusion, with such diverse tracks as Koopers gritty compositions I Cant Quit Her and I Love You More Than Youll Ever Know, as well as his playfully arty House in the Country and The Modern Adventures of Plato, Diogenes and Freud, along with stirring readings of Tim Buckleys Morning Glory, Harry Nilssons Without Her and Randy Newmans Just One Smile.


    Koopers expansive musical vision may have been a bit too far ahead of its time. Although it was a favorite of early FM album-rock DJs, Child Is Father to the Man barely scraped the Billboard Top 50 and failed to produce a hit single. However, in the years since, the album has been widely recognized for its expressiveness and originality, and embraced by successive generations of listeners. For instance, it received a prominent placement in Rolling Stones 2003 ranking of the 500 greatest albums of all time.


    Now, Child Is Father to the Man is back in its original vinyl format with Sundazeds definitive new LP edition. With meticulously reproduced original cover art, this vintage musical landmark has been remastered from the original analog master tapes and is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl.

    Soul To Soul (Pure Pleasure)

    The acclaimed composer, jazz vocalist, producer, arranger and educator Carmen Lundy believes in honesty and sincerity in music. Her artistic passion has guided her around the world, working with numerous musicians such as Geri Allen, Patrice Rushen, Teri Lynne Carrington and many others. So it should come as no surprise that her fervent new song cycle, titled Soul To Soul, features an array of award-winning musicians that help her realize the next chapter in her critically acclaimed career.


    Soul To Soul is Carmen Lundy's 14th album and features 13 songs, 11 of which Carmen composed and arranged. She plays guitar on all tracks, piano on "Kindred Spirits", the electric Rhodes on "Don't You Know How I Feel", and the drums/percussion on "Sardegna" and also provides backing vocals on "Grace". The Los Angeles-based vocalist opens the program with "Kindred Spirits", a song that explores the concept of 'you reap what you sow' and the way you play the game of life. Next is "Life Is A Song In Me", during which Lundy's lyrics benefit from the synergy of her multi-octave range and vocalese, Rushen's Rhodes solo, Jamison Ross' exemplary drumming and the balanced backing vocals.


    Carmen Lundy continues to find new connections between the jazz elements used by vocalists and instrumentalists on the title track, "Soul To Soul". She adds the stellar accompaniment of trumpeter Randy Brecker, tenor saxophonist Ada Rovatti and piano chops of Patrice Rushen to underline her musical persona and vocal technique. The sound motion inherent in that song has great tone that many people will feel instantly and submit it to their memory and recall abilities. That is what makes a song a hit with people - its sound motion.


    Her great ballad, "When Will They Learn", is absolutely beautiful with its string arrangements for harpist Carol Robbins and the serene brushwork of Jamison Ross. Here Carmen delivers the song in her vocals lower octaves which make this moving song one of the best on the recording. You can hear that she has internalized the music, allowing it to flow in her veins and transferring it directly to the listener.
    Overall, Soul To Soul is among Carmen Lundy's best recordings. She understands that those notes she puts down on paper are important and have their place. But when it comes to delivering those notes, her vocal acumen and virtuosity proves that she has the right balance, the right accompaniments, the right musical formats and the right synergy, artistry and jazz sensibilities to make those inspired notes accessible to her worldwide fans.     About Pure Pleasure



    At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.



    During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.



    A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.



    We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.



    We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.



    To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Following up on their debut Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band [MOVLP1375], Ahh The Name Is Bootsy, Baby! is the second album by American Funk act Bootsy's Rubber Band, originally released in 1977. The album was produced by Parliament Funkadelic's funk meister George Clinton and bass player & front man William Bootsy Collins. With the help of Clinton, the band has released four LPs in the '70s. This particular album reached number One on Billboard magazine's Top R&B/Soul albums chart.


    The band features Bootsy's brother Phelps Catfish Collins, Jr on guitar, Frankie Kash on drums, Frederick Flintstone Allen on drums and James Brown regulars Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley on horns. Guest appearances include saxophonist Randy and trumpeter Michael Brecker, and keyboardist Bernie Worrell, amongst others.


    Everything on the album is excellent, that is true of up-tempo smokers like The Pinocchio Theory and the title song as well as slow, moody, eerie offerings such as What's a Telephone Bill? and Munchies For Your Love. The lyrics are consistently humorous and clever, the grooves are consistently infectious. Ahh... The Name Is Bootsy, Baby! bears that distinctive P-funk sound, and is essential listening for lovers of hard 1970s Funk.

    More About Mobile Fidelity UltraDisc One-Step and Why It Is Superior

    Instead of utilizing the industry-standard three-step lacquer process, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's new UltraDisc One-Step (UD1S) uses only one step, bypassing two processes of generational loss. While three-step processing is designed for optimum yield and efficiency, UD1S is created for the ultimate in sound quality. Just as Mobile Fidelity pioneered the UHQR (Ultra High-Quality Record) with JVC in the 1980s, UD1S again represents another state-of-the-art advance in the record-manufacturing process. MFSL engineers begin with the original master tapes and meticulously cut a set of lacquers. These lacquers are used to create a very fragile, pristine UD1S stamper called a convert. Delicate converts are then formed into the actual record stampers, producing a final product that literally and figuratively brings you closer to the music. By skipping the additional steps of pulling another positive and an additional negative, as done in the three-step process used in standard pressings, UD1S produces a final LP with the lowest noise floor possible today. The removal of the additional two steps of generational loss in the plating process reveals tremendous amounts of extra musical detail and dynamics, which are otherwise lost due to the standard copying process.
