    Plenty, Plenty Soul

Although his name will forever be associated with the celebrated Modern Jazz Quartet, vibraphonist Milt Jackson's discography includes multiple sessions as a leader, many of which are now regarded as jazz classics. Among the crown jewels of his discography was the album Plenty, Plenty Soul, which was given a rating of five stars in Down Beat magazine in 1957, a collection of original compositions and the arrangements of the one and only Quincy Jones. A stone cold classic featuring Cannonball Adderly, Horace Silver, Art Blakey and more. Pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

With Dangerous, released in November 1991, Michael Jacksons career really sustained its high. The album entered the Billboard
200 album chart at number 1 and sold over 32 million copies worldwide in the space of 17 years. The RIAA certified Dangerous 7x
platinum for shipping 7 million copies in the United States. With hit singles such as Black Or White, In The Closet, Remember
The Timeh, Jamh, and Who Is Ith, and the unforgettable music videos that supported the tracks, Michael Jackson showed his true
strength by delivering yet another classic album, despite the fact that it was not produced by Quincy Jones (Off The Wall, Thriller
    and Bad).

Although Dangerous is definitely part of Jacksons quartet of classic albums (Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous) and shows off
a diverse range of styles, the multi-platinum number one album is sometimes overlooked. However, we present the album on 180
grams audiophile double vinyl and with remastered sound, to maximize your listening pleasure.

    Big Band Bossa Nova

A byproduct of the bossa nova fad that followed the success of Desafinado (and preceded the famous recording Getz/Gilberto), this set finds Quincy Jones utilizing and exploiting bossa nova rhythms in his arrangements for a big band. The personnel includes flÜgelhornist Clark Terry, altoist Phil Woods, pianist Lalo Schifrin, guitarist Jim Hall, and (on Soul Bossa Nova) the remarkable Rahsaan Roland Kirk. However, since the selections are all quite brief, and some of the charts are a bit cheesy and inappropriate for the gentle rhythms, this disc (although pleasant enough) is of lesser interest.

    The Dude

The Dude is a 1981 studio album by American musician and producer Quincy Jones. The album featured the debut of vocalist James Ingram on the singles Just Once and One Hundred Ways, which reached no. 17 and 14, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100. It also contained Razzamatazz, which reached no. 11 in the UK Singles Chart, one of his few hits there. He won the Grammy award for best R&B vocal performance for his work on the album. Belgian harmonica player and puccaloist Toots Thielemans also contributed to the album, appearing on the instrumental track Velas. The song was sampled by Jodeci on their 1996 single Get On Up which appeared on their third album The Show, the After Party, the Hotel as well as producers Shut Up and Dance for the track Waking Up which appeared on Nicolette's first album Now Is Early.

The album won three Grammy Awards, one for Best Instrumental Arrangement, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Instrumental Arrangement (Accompanying Vocalists) and also earned Ingram three Grammy nominations for Best New Artist, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Just Once and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for One Hundred Ways, for which he won at the 24th Grammy Awards in 1982.

The album also gained heavy dance airplay for the songs Ai No Corrida (a cover of Chaz Jankel's song) and Razzamatazz (vocals by Patti Austin).

The single Just Once was featured in the 1982 film The Last American Virgin.

    Around The World

Around the World gives ample proof of Quincy Jones' musical education and his interest in diverse cultures. He still hadn't visited some countries, such as Japan, when he recorded the LP, which is a mixture of traditional or typical tunes from a variety of countries with Quincy Jones's own original tunes. Despite the variety of the material, the album remains cohesive given the fact that Quincy arranged all of the tracks.

Live At The Sands: Before Frank (On Sale)

Swinging Hard and Heavy With Orchestral Support, Live Big-Band Album Recorded During the Count's Warm-Up Sets for Sinatra in Early 1966 in Vegas

Incredible Sound: Mastered from the Original Master Tapes, Reissue Improves Upon Renowned Dynamics, Presence, Crispness, and Balances

Long Out-of-Print, Seminal Classic is Perfect Complement to Sinatra's Live at the Sands

Count Basie and Frank Sinatra had the perfect arrangement at the Sands. Before the Chairman hit the stage in Vegas, Count Basie and his big band warmed up the already enthusiastic crowd with a brief set of their own. A dynamite entertainer, the legendary leader causes hearts to race, hips to shake, and fingers to snap with high-energy readings of his trademark swing music, taken to feverish heights by both his first-rate orchestra and the incredibly swank setting. Fortunately, the finest of Basie and Co.'s introductory performances from the historic 1966 dates have been preserved here and serve as a seminal complement to Sinatra's iconic Live at the Sands.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's analog version of Live at the Sands (Before Frank) gives you a dead-center, eighth-row seat at the famed Sin City club. You'll just need to supply your own table and cocktail. Renowned for its sonic clarity, transparency, crispness, and punch, the record is now tremendously enhanced, with improved tonality, a deeper soundstage, correct balances, and lifelike presence. Each horn occupies its own space, and Basie's transfixing piano-a focal point throughout-resonates with gorgeous detail and impeccable pacing. The collective's energy almost demands to be measured with an SPL meter.

Captured in late January and early February 1966, Live at the Sands (Before Frank) contains most of Basie's signature pieces delivered with an enthusiasm, style, and brassiness that exceed that gracing nearly any of the Count's studio efforts. His band is stacked to the nines, with tenor saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, saxophonist/flautist Eric Dixon, and drummer "Sonny" Payne among the prized cast. The Sands dates marked the first time in years that these players, as well as trombonist Al Grey, gathered onstage together.

Encouraged by Basie, the instrumentalists engage in a series of call-and-response passages and standout solos, not the least of which is Davis' turn on a white-hot "Jumpin' at the Woodside" and he and Dixon's exchanges on "This Could Be the Start of Something Big." No slouch, Basie approaches "Makin' Whoopee" with graceful playfulness, and oversees the assortment of uptempo swing numbers and mellow ballads with astute melodicism. A sublime version of the Don Gibson country standard "I Can't Stop Loving You," arranged by Quincy Jones, can almost be considered a bonus.

No, it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. And Basie and his mates have plenty of it on this superb outing. Big-band jazz seldom enjoyed such levels of rhythmic precision, expert charts, or unfettered joy. Unbelievably, this gem has been out of print for years, with original copies both on vinyl and CD commanding steep prices. Mobile Fidelity's reissue restores not only the sonics but the record's place in jazz history.

Ever since the end of World War II, the exchange of musical ideas between jazzmen of various nations has gained increasing incidence, particularly in Scandinavia. It was in Sweden that the first outstanding modern jazz soloists were contributed by Europe to the international discographies; and it was in Sweden that a number of happy unions took place between American and Swedish jazzmen, resulting in the production of such successful sessions as the two represented on this album.(...) Jazz Abroad indicates decisively that men like Quincy Jones, Roy Haynes and their confreres are musically at ease in the company of such distinguished Swedish contemporaries as are heard with them here. The Quincy Jones & His Orchestra recorded at the 1961 Newport Jazz Festival. With trumpeter Joe Newman, altoist Phil Woods, trombonist Curtis Fuller and tenor man Eric Dixon as key soloists, this ensemble could hold its own with most of its contemporaries. Jones' arrangements were colorful and distinctive, and the musicianship of the orchestra was quite impressive.

Louis and George Johnson formed The Brothers Johnson under the auspices of Quincy Jones in 1975, releasing this second album in 1977. With Quincy at the helm as producer, the duo quickly broke wide open with its debut album.

The Brothers Johnson's second album Right on Time consists of some of the best proto-typical funk-soul grooves from the late 70s. The album is again produced by Quincy Jones and his contributions ensure the high quality of the instrumental arrangements and general glossiness of the audio production as in their debut album.

Several of the tracks are as good as anything Michael Jackson or Earth Wind and Fire would've produced around this time, particularly Runnin' For Your Lovin', Strawberry Letter 23 and Never Leave You Lonely. There are also two fantastic instrumentals, Q and Brother Man that are both irrepressibly funky, with Louis Johnson's tight bass providing the solid rhythmic foundation he is famous for. Fusion fans will be familiar with several of the backing musicians: Harvey Mason, Dave Grusin, and Lee Ritenour to name a few.

The single Strawberry Letter 23 gained a #5 spot in the US billboard charts and #1 on the US R&B billboard. The album received platinum.

    Today And Now

Coleman Hawkins recorded three sessions for Impulse Records in the early to mid '60's. Of the three, Today And Now is the most compelling and the unusual choice of repertoire is what sets the album apart. The Hawk plays with an abandon that is altogether effortless throughout and his versions of the traditional song Go Li'l Liza and the fairly obscure Quincy Jones ballad Quintessence are creatively rendered. His band consisting of pianist Tommy Flanagan, bass player Major Holley and drummer Eddie Locke, back the tenor king here with a similar imaginative approach. A largely impromptu session, each song develops and evolves with each chorus, and it would serve as one of Hawkins' last great records.

    Memorial

When Brownie stood up and took his first solo on 'Philly J J,' I nearly fell off my seat in the control room. The power, range and brilliance together with the
warmth and invention was something that I hadn't heard since Fats Navarro, stated famed jazz historian Ira Gitler, who happened to be supervising the
1953 session that yielded part of Memorial. Indeed, trumpeter Clifford Brown is heard here in fine form in two unrelated sessions. On four selections,
Brown coasts effortlessly along with Tadd Dameron's Orchestra, sharing the solo spotlight with Benny Golson on tenor and Gigi Gryce on alto. On the
remainder of the album, composed from material cut in Sweden the same year, Brown is joined by fellow trumpeter Art Farmer for four Quincy Jones
arrangements with a Swedish group that includes altoist Arne DomnÉrus, baritonist Lars Gullin, and pianist Bengt Hallberg. On whole, this is classic,
sophisticated material that deserves a place in every jazz vinyl collection.

    The Phoenix

Once upon a time, CKY burned it all down, with a raucous, anarchic, hard rock sound soaked in the skate-punk culture that birthed them and a hard-partying lifestyle onstage and off that decimated relationships and reputations in its wake.

Now, CKY rises from the ashes of the aftermath with The Phoenix, a bold mission statement that hoists the flag high for big, raw, authentic, earth-shaking rock n' roll, liberated from useless pretense.

The Phoenix touches on anger, revenge, good versus evil, desperation, recovery, growth, knowledge, survival, enemies, friends, and more. There are heavy, dark, signature CKY grooves, "fun shit," "fancy shit," driving and almost danceable stuff, big melodies, total ear candy, immense diversity There are even parts that sound like maybe Quincy Jones was given the keys to Rancho De La Luna and just ran amok with the dudes in CKY.

    In The Beginning

Hand-Numbered Slipcase With An 8-Panel Booklet With Notes By Ashley Kahn, Quincy Jones, Pete Townshend & Others

    Collector Postcards Of Never-Before-Published Photos

    Pressed By Record Technology Incorporated

Mastered By Engineering Legend, Bernie Grundman

Newly Discovered Live & Studio Recordings From 1949-1958

In the Beginning features recordings of Wes Montgomery spanning the years from 1949 to 1958, the formative years when the six-string virtuoso was honing his craft in Southern Indiana. Since Wes Montgomery's passing in 1968, only two other albums of predominantly unreleased material have been released Willow Weep For Me (Verve 1968) and Echoes of Indiana Avenue (Resonance 2012). Resonance Records is pleased to introduce the third such archival offering with In the Beginning.
The project began life in the wake of Echoes of Indiana Avenue. Even before that release, Buddy Montgomery's widow Ann approached Feldman and Resonance founder George Klabin with the Turf Club, Missile Lounge, and jam session recordings, looking for a respectful home for this never-released music. Philip Kahl, a 22 year old Butler College student had access to the brothers and recorded them at the before mentioned places with a portable tape recorder. 'In the Beginning started out early as a project exclusively focusing on the recordings received from Ann & Buddy Montgomery and evolved into an early years collection. There hasn't been a release like this in Wes's discography until now', says producer Zev Feldman.
The 26-track collection will be available as 2-CD and 3-LP sets. These newly discovered live & studio recordings from 1949-1958, include a complete never-before-released 1955 Epic Records session produced by Quincy Jones, licensed from Sony Music Entertainment, newly discovered 78 RPM sides with Wes as a sideman recorded for Spire Records (1949), a live recording from the home of Ervena Montgomery, Indianapolis (1956), live recordings from the Turf Club (1956), the Missile Lounge (1958) in Indianapolis, and the C&C Music Lounge in Chicago (1957).

This is presented on 180-gram vinyl mastered by engineering legend, Bernie Grundman, & pressed on 12inch LPs at 33 1/3 RPM by Record Technology Incorporated (R.T.I.) in a hand-numbered slipcase with an 8-panel booklet, and collector postcards of unpublished photos. In the Beginning features extensive liner notes, and meticulously designed artwork that have become the label's trademarks. The release is attractively designed by Burton Yount. This release is made possible with the help of Robert Montgomery, Wes's youngest son, and the head of the Wes Montgomery Estate who signed on as associate producer for the project. Feldman says, 'This is another chapter of previously undiscovered Wes, one which aficionados couldn't have even hoped existed a few short years ago. Resonance is proud to present another chapter in the legacy of Wes Montgomery.'

Give Me The Night (Pure Pleasure)

This is the peak of George Benson's courtship of the mass market -- a superbly crafted and performed pop album with a large supporting cast -- and wouldn't you know that Quincy Jones, the master catalyst, is the producer. Q's regular team, including the prolific songwriter Rod Temperton and the brilliant engineer Bruce Swedien, is in control, and Benson's voice, caught beautifully in the rich, floating sound, had never before been put to such versatile use. On Moody's Mood, Benson really exercises his vocalese chops and proves that he is technically as fluid as just about any jazz vocalist, and he become a credible rival to Al Jarreau on the joyous title track. Benson's guitar now plays a subsidiary role -- only two of the ten tracks are instrumentals -- but Q has him play terrific fills behind the vocals and in the gaps, and the engineering gives his tone a variety of striking, new, full-sounding timbres. The instrumentals themselves are marvelous: Off Broadway is driving and danceable, and Ivan Lins' Dinorah, Dinorah grows increasingly seductive with each play. Benson should have worked with Jones from this point on, but this would be their only album together.

    Musicians:

    • George Benson (vocal, guitar)
    • Lee Ritenour (guitar)
    • Herbie Hancock (electric piano, synthesizer)
    • Kim Hutchcroft (saxophone, flute)
    • Jerry Hey (trumpet)
    • Abraham Laboriel (bass)
    • Paulinho Da Costa (percussion)
    • Carlos Vega (drums)

    Recording: 1980 by Bruce Swedien
    Production: Quincy Jones

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
