    Pop Voodoo

Black Grape return with the brand new album 'Pop Voodoo,' which is set for release via MCA Records. The album showcases the band's first new material in 20 years and is sure to reinstate them as one of the most influential bands of all time.

Album opener and tease track 'Everything You Know Is Wrong - Intro' sees the band launching into a statement of intent and the return of Shaun Ryder's lyrical wit, which this time sees him taking sharp aim at Donald Trump. The forthcoming album is a testament to Ryder's reigning social and political commentary.

Ryder and Kermit have teamed up with producer Youth (Martin Glover) on this album, who has previously worked with the likes of The Verve, U2, Primal Scream, Guns N' Roses, Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode to name but a few.

Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and iconic bands of the last twenty years, Black Grape have had 4 Top 10 singles and their debut album, 'It's Great When You're Straight Yeah', shot straight to No.1 in the UK charts upon its release in 1995 and went Platinum.

    Vanishing Point

Vanishing Point is the fifth album from Primal Sream, originally released in 1997 and named after and inspired by the 1971 Richard C. Sarafian cult film of the same title. The songs were meant to be an alternative soundtrack to that movie and as lead singer Bobby Gillespie explained, the music in the film is hippy music and it's always been a favourite of the band, we love the air of paranoia and speed-freak righteousness: pure underground cinema, rammed with claustrophobia.

Vanishing Point was Primal Scream's first album to feature bass player Gary 'Mani' Mounfield (formerly of The Stone Roses) while guests include Augustus Pablo, Glen Matlock and The Memphis Horns. The band draws inspiration from dub and Can, ambient music, Motörhead and The Stooges here to create a dark mix of drum and bass, dance, and rock close to their magnum opus Screamadelica. The album fully displays how successfully an act can reinvent itself yet stay true to what it is best at.

    Foxbase Alpha

"Foxbase Alpha" is the 1991 debut album by the British group Saint Etienne and it is a wonderful mix of both modern and retro influences with house music, ambient, samples and 60s pop coexisting easily for a unique sound not found anywhere else at the time. It is best known for their popular cover of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart". "Foxbase Alpha" had such an impact upon its release that it was nominated for the Mercury Prize eventually losing to Primal Scream's Screamadelica. This early 90s Britpop classic is now available on 180 gram vinyl from Plain Records.

To follow up the release of their critically acclaimed Thrill Jockey debut West, Wooden Shjips return with a limited 12 vinyl EP featuring three exclusive cuts which includes two remixes, one by Andrew Weatherall and one by Sonic Boom, as well as a collaboration with Kandodo. Limited to only 2,500 copies worldwide.

Andrew Weatherall, long time producer and remixer who has worked with the likes of Primal Scream, New Order, My Bloody Valentine and Bjork, remixed Crossing. Pete Kember, also known as Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3/Spectrum fame contributed Wiking Stew (aka Red Krayola-ing). When Pete was called in to help master the record he was inspired by the album and made this mash up from West on his own. Last but not least is the track Ursus Maritimus (Last Bear's Lament), a long distance collaboration with Kandodo (otherwise known as Simon Price from The Heads). Ripley created the bed of the track in Colorado in between tours and sent if off to Simon, in London. Simon added all the additional instrumentation at his home studio

    XTRMNTR

When Primal Scream's EXTERMINATOR - or XTRMNTR - came out in 2000 as the last album on Alan McGee's legendary Creation Records it made quite a stir. McGee must have told The Scream to let the label 'go out with a bang', and boy did they deliver.

EXTERMINATOR is punk flavoured anarchism mixed with a big beat rumpus, a sonic protest against the self-righteous and unchallenging indie-music of the day. Or, as NME put it: 'rarely has anger been so beautifully managed', as they put it on the #2 spot of the best albums of 2000 (only losing out to Radiohead's Kid A).

With EXTERMINATOR The Scream produced war you can dance to, proving themselves ahead of their time.

    Sleep Forever (Awaiting Repress)

Last year Brandon Welchez and Chuck Rowell released their acclaimed debut album, Summer of Hate as Crocodiles. Straddling vast sonic terrains from the jagged guitar stabs of street-strutting lead single Neon Jesus, to throbbing kraut rock, expansive shoegaze and irresistibly danceable disco-punk jams, Summer Of Hate drew comparisons with The Velvet Underground and Primal Scream.

Significantly, it also caught the ear of James Ford, Simian Mobile Disco man and producer of the Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons and Florence and the Machine amongst others. Together, all three headed into the desert in early 2010 to create Summer Of Hate's psychedelic, hyptonic and anthemic follow-up. An album that would later be christened Sleep Forever.

Raw it may be, but Sleep Forever is still an unmistakingly more refined beast than its predecessor. Drums and organ whirls envelope you on tracks like Mirrors and Sleep Forever, which nod to Ladies and Gentelman era Spiritualized as much as they do Neu! and The Velvet Undergound.

    Shaved Fish (On Sale)

At the time of its release, Shaved Fish didn't attract as much attention as any compilation of John Lennon's work would have either a few years before or a few years after. Lennon had just issued the somewhat disappointing genre album, Rock 'n' Roll, and was only a year from Walls and Bridges, not one of his strongest albums, and had also grown somewhat stale as a public figure. Drawing on his singles up to that point in his career, it shows a punkier, more defiant vision of Lennon's work than subsequent compilations, which would dwell on a broader cross section of his output. Happy Christmas and Imagine are moments of peace in the company of artifacts from his political/agitprop (Power to the People) and primal scream (Mother) periods, and his attempts at topical songwriting (Woman Is the Nigger of the World), and Whatever Gets You Through the Night, which was unique to this LP, was a better piece of mainstream rock & roll than any of the late-'50s numbers that he ground out for Rock 'n' Roll. This collection, which was the last LP release to come from Lennon in any form until Double Fantasy five years later, was the only compilation of his work released in Lennon's own lifetime, and has since been supplanted by various posthumous assemblies of his music.

On their sophomore full-length, Horizons, electronic duo Painted Palms draw inspiration from a number of sonic palettes - the song structure of '60s pop, '80s synths, the hypnotic vibes of early 90s Creation Records bands like Primal Scream and Happy Mondays, and the beats of early 2000s Southern hip hop - to create a panoramic pop sound that is uniquely their own. Mixed by former DFA house engineer Eric Broucek (LCD Soundsystem, Classixx), Horizons is the work of two musicians who share a singular focus and absolute trust in each other's talents.

No 2: Abyss In B Minor (Discontinued) (On Sale)

In this age, given the ease of bedroom recording, records like this one arenÆt made very often. But this is no distended double-album; it may open with the eight-minute groove of Ayisha Abyss, which sounds like a caffeinated Can or something from FunkadelicÆs Maggot Brain, but the whole album is so concise, so perfectly realised that itÆs all over in 38 minutes and 45 seconds.

No 2: Abyss In B Minor follows the Norwegian bandÆs self-titled debut on which they toured with everyone from the Dandy Warhols to Nine Inch Nails. S-M mastermind Emile Nikolaisen spent over a year ôin different locations with different people, capturing and gathering moments, failures, sounds.ö Then, with the assistance of the likes of Nick Terry, who has worked with Klaxons and Primal Scream, and Can associate Ren? Tinner, he set about mixing the results.

I Just Want To See Your Face has a terrifying opening section reminiscent of XTRMNTR-era Primal Scream, before turning into an insanely twisted pop song. There are some incredible, memorable melodies in songs such as D.I.W.S.W.T.T.D, but the squalling menace of Reprobate! and Blow Yr Brains In The Morning Rain, the ethereal majesty of Melody For Jaana and the slow-motion nightmare of Honeyjinx are something else entirely.

    This Is Not The World

This Is Not The World finds The Futureheads embracing the punk-rock ethic like never before and it could be said that it is an amalgamation of the urgency and vigour of their self titled 2004 debut and the control, sincerity and maturity of 2006's News & Tributes. The Fool

Warpaint, the all-girl quartet from Los Angeles, weave intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between psychedelia and intimacy. Both live and on record, Warpaint sound like theyre channelling something truly otherworldly, mystical. The Fool is their utterly mesmeric debut full-length album on Rough Trade Records and follows-up 2009s Exquisite Corpse EP.

The Fool was produced and mixed by Tom Biller (Liars, Jon Brion, Sean Lennon) in Los Angeles, with further mixes from Andrew Weatherall (Bjork, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream) and Adam Samuels (John Frusciante, Daniel Lanois). Warpaint is Emily Kokal (vocals/guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar/vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass/vocals) and Stella Mozgawa (drums).

    #1 Record

Ranked 403/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Although the original members of the Memphis quartet Big Star recorded only the album, #1 Record together and were dissolving rapidly by the time the second, Radio City, was completed, those records have influenced countless 80s and 90s rockers on both sides of the Atlantic, from the Replacements and R.E.M. to Englands Primal Scream and Scotlands Teenage Fanclub. That Big Stars impact should extend so far afield is less surprising in light of the bands own inspirations. Taking the gritty soul of Memphis rhythm and blues and fusing it with the artful melodies and vocal harmonies of British power pop, and injecting it all with a flailing, pre-punk, garage-band energy, Big Star created a unique sound with a universal appeal.

Originally released in 1972, Big Star's legendary debut, #1 Record was the second release for the newly formed Ardent Records. Their simple, light pop and jangly guitars mixed with sweet harmonies was ahead of its time, garnering a die-hard cult following and receiving widespread critical acclaim. Much of the tension that fueled Big Star's wonderful harmonies apparently came from the undercurrents of competition instilled by the medias perception of Alex Chilton as the leader of the band, one which Chris Bell once steered. Near Christmas of 1972, Bell left the band. Chilton, Hummel and Stephens continued as a trio, but Big Star was clearly on the rocks. They pulled themselves together enough, however, to record 1973's Radio City, which has been called one of rocks most seminal albums, and while Bell was not a formal participant, his lingering spirit is evident in several of the albums 12 tracks.

    King Of The Waves

Its been nearly five years since Little Barrie has released new material, but King of the Waves definitively proves that its been absolutely worth the wait. Since 2007, the band has dedicated themselves to honing their musical reputations, doing everything from appearing live with Primal Scream to collaborations with the likes of Morrissey and Mark Ronson.

Guitarist/frontman Barrie Cadogan and bassist/vocalist Lewis Wharton are joined on the album by the new addition of drummer/vocalist Virgil Howe, son of renowned Yes guitarist Steve Howe. The resulting sound produced by the band is as intensely electrifying as one might expect from such a dynamic and in-demand group of individuals. It calls to mind an old school Detroit rock n roll showdown between Link Wray and The Creation, with the MC5 and Motowns best in attendance to cheer both sides, and the omnipresent threat of a killer wave lurking just overhead.

Longtime friend and collaborator Edwyn Collins co-produced the album with Little Barrie, and sings backing vocals on the track Money In Paper. Engineer Sebastian Lewsley also returns on King of the Waves, recorded at Collins West Heath Studios in north London. Available on 180g vinyl in gatefold jacket.

    I Was A King

Oslo, Norway's I Was A King debuted in 2007 with the European release of the critically acclaimed album Losing Something Good For Something Better. On its successor, I Was A King, frontman Frode Stromstad further explores his unique gift of creating addictive melodies with distinctive roots to the '60's distorted through the sound of the '90's. The album was recorded at Marlborough Farms in Brooklyn and features performances by Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh), Sufjan Stevens, Daniel Smith (Danielson) and Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor). I Was A King was mixed by Nick Terry (Primal Scream, The Libertines).

    Soft Friday

Coves, the highly buzzed about 60's infused, indie psych-rock duo comprised of singer Rebekah Wood and multi-instrumentalist John Rigard bring their critically acclaimed debut album, Soft Friday, stateside. Mixed by Brendan Lynch (Primal Scream, Paul Weller), Clash Magazine says of the album, "With those driving, Spector-esque drums and that sweeping grandeur, theirs is a teenage melodrama fuelled by a passion for noise swirling psychedelia with a visceral edge."

Coves released Soft Friday in the UK to critical acclaim, and quickly won the support of BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Nick Grimshaw and more, as well as attention from influential press outlets like Q Magazine, Clash, Dazed & Confused, Noisey, The Guardian, and NME who rated the album 9/10 and featured the album as one of its best albums of 2014.

    Steady On, Scientist

Five years after the release of their debut LP, Life Embarrasses Me On Planet Earth, San Francisco's Seventeen Evergreen make an exciting return with their sophomore album, Steady On, Scientist, via Lucky Number Records.

Sonic references are broad, explosive and reformulated. Late '80s/early '90s dance era pulsing pop-beats rise, hot with hope, fueled by unique bass-lines, played like classic '60s Fender riffs, but with added synth propulsion, whilst lyrical and musical themes are always stretching beyond norms. Lyrics are immediately provoking and mind grabbing and across the album, vocals are textured like instruments in their own right.

Steady On, Scientist is about space and density, the polarity and the duplicity of life. Names like New Order, Air, Screamadelica-era Primal Scream, Sonic Youth and Flaming Lips may come to mind, but sonically and spiritually it's a singularly triumphant and liberating concoction, an anthemic vision. Like their debut, Steady On, Scientist is entirely self-written, recorded and produced and, once again, it emphasizes its creators clear and unique identity, away from the pack.

    The House At Sea

Amor de Días, the collaboration between Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele) and Lupe Núñez-Fernández (Pipas), release their sophomore album The House at Sea. While debut Street of the Love of Days took three years to make, The House at Sea was recorded and mixed in only nine days. As a result, the sessions centered around a smaller band-the twin Spanish guitars and voices of Núñez-Fernández and MacLean, and an occasional rhythm section of James Hornsey and Howard Monk, both formerly of The Clientele. The fast pace of the sessions resulted in a rawer, more urgent album, recorded by Brian O'Shaughnessy (My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Denim, Birdie) on 1970s valve equipment with a feeling for space and a deliberately limited palette, all the elements of which had to count. The House at Sea is a snapshot of a year's songs written in London and Madrid. There are pop songs, delirious dream accounts, strange lyrical puzzles, and stories from the city and the suburbs. The theme of the sea threads its way throughout the record along with a gentle sense of drifting and departure, of being lost, of saudade-a sadness at lost things.

    Nocturama

    Import

Nocturama' - Cave's twelfth with the Bad Seeds ... Linking up with producer Nick Launey, who first worked with Cave on The Birthday Party's 1981 single 'Release The Bats', has rejuvenated the Bad Seeds' dormant Fury Gene and what emerges is a vibrant volley between the who's been handcuffed to a piano with a bucketful of opium since 1997 and the smack-riddled Nick Cave who'd have happily kicked your teeth in if you'd insulted his big goth quiff in 1983.

So we get a batch of sublime odes on the minor traumas of Nick's generally happy marriage ('Wonderful Life' stinks of foreboding trips to IKEA, 'Rock Of Gibraltar' could be an alternative wedding vow; sensational standout track 'He Wants You' takes a third person viewpoint and even here Nick takes the role of a darkly poetic Cilla Black) and one old skool murder balled called 'Still In Love', all locking horns with some of Cave's most virulent rage-blues in a decade. Yes, first single 'Bring It On' - a duet Chris Bailey from The Saints - could be James with tonsilitis, but it's the raucous sexual aggression of 'Dead Man In My Bed' that jolts 'Nocturama' off the rails, and the final fifteen-minute, 40-verse damnation-rock epiphany 'Babe, I'm On Fire' feels like eavesdropping on one of Nick's primal scream therapy sessions. You'll only listen to the whole thing more than once if you're the sort of person who tapes the Eastenders Omnibus, but its as fascinating and unbearable as the Fred West interrogation recordings. But with more laughs.

Put simply, 'Nocturama' is one of Nick's very finest - uniting his two dramatic alter egos in devilish harmony. It's what The Velvet Underground would've sounded like if they'd been psychopaths. With a heart.

    Fourteen Inches of Fist

Screaming guitars, brutal, primal drumming and a twisted, wailing saxophone cutting through it all.. The whole thing is done with a sense of humour and is a joy to behold. Atomic Suplex have toured Europe and Asia sharing the stage with such luminaries as The Hives, Guitar Wolf, Fat White Family, Buzzcocks, and many more.. Every song is a one to two minute burst of distorted guitars, insane vocals, the occasional bit of sax. And, you know what? It's brilliant. If you want some raw, visceral rock'n'roll thrills this band comes highly recommended.
