Communique (45 RPM) (Pre-Order) (On Sale)
Smooth, Effortless, Relaxed, Tuneful, And Deceivingly Simple: Dire Straits' Communique Teems With Technical Perfectionism, Southern-Styled Grooves, And Low-Key Blues
Reference-Level Detail, Depth, Soundstaging, Balance, And Presence: Communique Has Never Sounded Better Than On Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP Version
Mark Knopfler's Mesmerizing Textures, Intricate Lines, And Crisp Tones Pair With Engaging Storytelling And Tight Rhythms: Every Song An Example Of Understated Virtuosity
The performances on Dire Straits' Communique are so smooth and effortless, they were originally criticized for replicating the blueprints of the band's breakout debut. Time, however, has a way of changing perspectives and exposing the truth. More than 35 years after its original release in June 1979, Communique rightfully takes its place as the group's most underrated record - a nine-track set spiked with engaging storytelling, relaxed vibes, and deceiving simplicity.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Communique elevates Dire Straits' sophomore album to an even higher plane. Recorded in the Bahamas by Muscle Shoals veterans Barry Beckett and Jerry Wexler, the songs benefit from a laidback approach that makes guitarist/vocalist Mark Knopfler and company's stellar playing seem even more fluent - particularly when experienced on this collector's 45RPM version, on which the wider grooves allow for more detail retrieval and deeper musical insight.
Knopfler's mesmerizing guitar textures and composed vocals appear as if they're right in front of you, holding court amidst expansive soundstages and deep-black backgrounds. Details, imaging, and presence are on a level associated with the finest audiophile recordings. You'll be hard-pressed to find another LP with cleaner, pinpoint-accurate tones. Mobile Fidelity's LP also brings into transparent view Knopfler's seemingly perfect intricate lines as well as the simpatico accompaniment from his band mates. Whole, lively, and balanced, the bass and drums arrive with a solidity rarely heard on albums of this era. Communique has truly never sounded better.
Of course, the audiophile sonics mean little if the artistic content is lacking. Needless to say, Dire Straits' technical perfectionism and creative elan prevail throughout. Knopfler's penchant for sketching cynical characters is further developed on moody tracks like Where Do You Think You're Going and News, while Wexler's presence at the boards ensures the band keeps the rhythms extra tight. The quartet's low-key blues and swampy, Southern-styled grooves turn every song into an exercise in understated virtuosity.
Refusing to give into excess, magnetic tunes such as Lady Writer and Angel of Mercy split a fine line between insinuating and insisting. The group shows off a combination of control, virtuosity, and tunefulness that harkens back to a rock n' roll's classic period while also pointing the way ahead. Need indisputable evidence of Dire Straits' compositional strengths? Cue up the closing Follow Me Home on this pressing and get lost amidst the peacefulness of the gentle surf and chirping crickets that frame the song. Heavenly.
The sequence serves as additional proof that Communique remains one of the best-sounding rock records ever made.

Ooooooweeee!!! (Pre-Order)One of Dusty's rarest and most desirable albums from this era, Ooooooweeee!!! (PMC 7005), issued in March 1965 was another fascinating potpourri of UK singles tracks, stray EP and LP cuts, and material initially exclusive to the release. Amongst the latter were several songs Springfield recorded in New York such as 'Here She Comes' and 'If Wishes Could Be Kisses,' the mono takes of which have different vocal parts to the stereo.1. Bob Dylan (Mono) (Pre-Order) (On Sale)Bob Dylan On Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram Mono 45RPM 2LP From Mobile Fidelity
Understated 1962 Debut Launched Immeasurably Influential Career
Album Stands as Clearest Connection to Dylan's Purist Folk Roots
Ghosts of Woody Guthrie and Blues Legends Appear Throughout Recording of Originals and Covers
Mastered From The Original Master Tapes And Strictly Limited To 3,000 Copies
Mobile Fidelity Mono 45RPM 2LP Features Unparalleled Directness And Sound Dylan, Producers Originally Intended
Made when mono was still king, Bob Dylan's self-titled 1962 debut is as understated of an entrance as any significant musician as ever made. Already well-versed in American roots music, Dylan simultaneously pays homage to tradition and extends it by putting his own stamp on classic material that metaphorically functions as the soil of our contemporary songs and styles. Free of ego, and performed with masterful conviction, Bob Dylan ranks with the debut efforts of similar artistic giants Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones.
Mastered from the original master tapes, pressed at RTI, and strictly limited to 3,000 copies, Mobile Fidelity's restored 180g mono 45RPM 2LP analog version brings the contents of this seminal release as closest as they've ever come to master tape-quality in the original mono configuration. Transparent to the source, the simple sounds of Dylan's voice, acoustic guitar, and harmonica take on lifelike perspective and directness-the husk and bark to which Robert Shelton referred in his now-legendary New York Times review of a Dylan appearance at Gerde's Folk City. MoFi has made possible an inexpensive time-traveling trip back to the Greenwich Village coffeehouses and folk clubs in which Dylan cut his teeth, albeit in much better fidelity and without any annoying background chatter. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.
As the preferred mix at the time of the recording, the mono version presents Dylan as he and his producers originally intended. Since the separation of the stereo versions isn't as sharp, the mono edition places Dylan's vocals in the heart of the musical action and as one with the accompaniment. It paints listeners an incredibly accurate portrait of the attention-getting, concrete mass of sound that features no artificial panning and straight-ahead immersion into the music. This is how almost everyone first heard this timeless album-making the mono mix all the more historically valuable and truthful.
Much has been made of the commercial indifference that greeted the album upon its low-key release. Yet focusing on sales figures and the reaction of a public not yet hip to Dylan's name or music is to miss the forest for the trees. Distinguished from the era's other folk efforts by way of the determination, brazenness, and lived-through-this worldliness Dylan approaches the material and sings the songs, Dylan lays the groundwork for the path he'd soon trailblaze and everyone else would follow.
By nodding to Woody Guthrie at the same time he completely re-imagines a sobering tune such as Blind Lemon Jefferson's See That My Grave Is Kept Clean, Dylan straddles the past and future. He also displays, with challenging authority and savant-like expertise, the ability to handle weighty topics such as death, sorrow, and lamentation with the vaudeville flair, bluesy mannerisms, and poignant command of an artist three times his age.
As Dylan scholar and pop-culture critic Greil Marcus observed in 2010, Everybody knew Joan Baez and the Kingston Trio; if you knew Bob Dylan, you knew something other people didn't, something that soon enough everybody had to know. Within a year, an album could put an adjective in front of the singer's name as if it were already common coin. It all starts here.

Dusty (Pre-Order)Dusty (PMC 7004) shared the same striking cover photo as that UK album, but its contents were completely different. Originally released in November 1964, this well-programmed disc features the US-only single 'All Cried Out' and two of Dusty's signature performances in the ballads 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself,' and 'My Coloring Book.' Several songs such as 'I Wish I'd Never Loved You' and 'Summer Is Over' were B-sides or EP cuts elsewhere, and tracks like 'Guess Who?' would not even see release in the UK until the CD era. Aromanticism (Pre-Order)Written in Montreal, Los Angeles, Asheville, Topanga, Laguna, Big Bear, coastal Nicaragua, and on a sleepy ship traversing the Pacific ocean, making Aromanticism was a 3-year adventure into the parts of the self that society encourages us to silence for the sake of our sanity.
The album title was chosen before any of its songs were written. The not-yet-in-the-dictionary definition of an aromantic is simply someone who doesn't completely feel romantic attraction. I'm just trying to get it out from over the red squiggly line.
Aromanticism features performances and production contributions from Matt Otto (Majical Cloudz), Thundercat, Joshua Willing Halpern, Paris Strother (KING), Miguel Atwood Ferguson,Rob Moose, Ian Chang (Son Lux), Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders), Nicole Miglis(Hundred Waters), Ludwig Görannson, Cam Obi, and more. All of the lyrics and vocal arrangements were written by me. Genre is shirked while choir-inspired vocal layering is employed in order to explore the multiplicities that are contained within a single person.

In a word association game, the name "Hank Mobley" will often generate "Blue Note" and vice versa. While Mobley had a musical life beyond the Blue Note label including associations with Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis (the 1961 Quintet), it is for his Blue Note recordings that he rightfully most remembered. Mobley led 25 albums for Blue Note and appeared on over 30 others as a sideman. His consistency resulted in all of those recordings being recommended to hard bop collectors. Mobley's mastery of the style, his attractive tone, and his skill at writing songs that inspire memorable solos made him a perfect representative of the Blue Note sound. Even with his large number of great recordings, Workout is something special and a real standout. Joined by Grant Green, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, Mobley creates brilliant statements on four of his best originals (including the soulful "Uh Huh" and "Greasin' Easy"), "The Best Things In Life Are Free" and "Three Coins In A Fountain." The passion in Mobley's playing is exciting and will surprise many. He takes wild chances that challenge the other all-stars, and he plays with a constant stream of creative ideas. Even collectors who own a dozen other Hank Mobley albums will have to get this version of Workout which, with its superb remastering, has never sounded better.

Includes Fuck Them Featuring Method Man, Sneakers, Yae Yo and Power
Immobilarity is the second studio album and the follow-up to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon (a.k.a. The Chef). Raekwon has been cited as a pioneer of Mafioso rap and is the founder of his own label ICEH20 Records.
The producers Triflyn, The Infinite Arkatechz, and Six July Productions gave Immobilarity the same sounds which producer RZA gave to Raekwon's first album with ill beats and street lyrics.
Fellow rappers from the Wu-Tang Clan also appear on the album such as Method Man on Fuck Them, Power with the American Cream Team and The Table featuring Masta Killa. As a nice bonus attribute, there's even a solid Pete Rock produced track Sneakers with Raekwon's flowing rhymes.
Raekwon explained that the album title is an acronym for I Move More Officially by Implementing Loyalty and Respect in the Youth.
The album, which was originally released in 1999, reached to number 2 in the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and number 4 on the US Billboard album charts and was certified gold by the RIAA.LP 1

Okovi (Pre-Order)Nika Roza Danilova has been recording music as Zola Jesus for more than a decade. For the majority of that time, she's been on Sacred Bones Records, and Okovi marks her reunion with the label. Fittingly, the 11 electronics-driven songs on Okovi share musical DNA with her early work on Sacred Bones. The music on this record was written in pure catharsis, and as a result, the sonics are heavier, darker, and more exploratory. In addition to the contributions of Danilova's longtime live bandmate Alex DeGroot, producer/musician WIFE, cellist/noise-maker Shannon Kennedy from Pedestrian Deposit, and percussionist Ted Byrnes all helped build the textural universe of these songs. Above all, Zola Jesus has crafted a profound meditation on loss and reconciliation that stands tall alongside the great works of its genre. Okovi speaks of tragedy with great wisdom and clarity. Its songs plumb dark depths, but they reflect light as well.1. Doma

Antisocialites (Pre-Order)Antisocialites is the much-anticipated follow-up to Alvvays' 2014 self-titled debut. Across its 10 tracks and 33 minutes the Toronto-based group dive back into the deep end of reckless romance and altered dates. Through thoughtful consideration in basement and abroad, Alvvays has renewed its Scot-pop vows with a powerful new collection of manic emotional collage.
The album opens with the excellent strum-'n-thrummer 'In Undertow,' a hi-amp breakup fantasy that is both crushing and charming for its level-headedness. You find a wave and try to hold on for as long as you can, you made a mistake you'd like to erase and I understand, sings Rankin, her voice full longing not for another person necessarily, but for what to do next. Meditate, play solitaire, take up self-defense, Molly continues, laundry-listing some strategies for moving on. What's next for you and me? I'll take suggestions, she deadpans under crashing waves of feedback and Farfisa.
Replete with more songs about drinking ('Forget About Life,' 'Hey'), drugging ('Lollipop (Ode To Jim)'), and drowning ('Already Gone'), Antisocialites is a multipolar period piece fueled by isolation and loss. Perversely enjoyable dark drama springs from Rankin's phonetic twists, quick-sung rhymes and irreverent syllable-play. So morose for me, seeing ghosts of me, writing oaths to me, the self-described introvert sings on the Cocteau-pop stunner 'Dreams Tonite,' the song from which the album's name is derived. In fluorescent light, antisocialites watch a wilting flower.
Antisocialites details a world of ice cream truck jingles and radiophonic workshop noise, where Rankin's shining wit is refracted through crystalline counterpoint. 'Not My Baby' is a centerpiece, a meditation on the rapture of escape following the sadness of separation. Elsewhere, 'Plimsoll Punks' is the band's answer to Television Personalities' 'Part-Time Punks' and a winking surf opus indictment of the self-righteous who intend to condescend. Molly wrote the rapid-fire sugar stream 'Lollipop (Ode to Jim)' after singing 'Just Like Honey' with Jesus and Mary Chain. 'Your Type' is a beautiful primitive stomp about running around Paris with vomit on your feet post-Louvre ejection.
The record concludes with a movement that is at once stark and celebratory. On 'Forget About Life,' the apartment stands in disarray as undrinkable wine is inhaled: When the failures of the past multiply and you trivialize the things that keep your hand from mine, did you want to forget about life with me tonite? The resonant freaks in Rankin's tales don't find much resolve, but with equal doses of black humor and heartstring-tugging, Antisocialites rings a truer tone.1. In Undertow

Villains (Pre-Order)Housed In a Gatefold With Two Inner Sleeves & A Lyric Sheet
Etching On Side 4 (No Music)
The title Villains isn't a political statement. It has nothing to do with Trump or any of that shit. It's simply 1) a word that looks fantastic and 2) a comment on the three versions of every scenario: yours, mine and what actually happened Everyone needs someone or something to rail against-their villain-same as it ever was. You can't control that. The only thing you can really control is when you let go.-Joshua Homme
Hundreds of epic shows, memory lapses, unexplained injuries, one yearlong detour with Iggy Pop and multiple Grammy nominations later, Queens Of The Stone Age reemerge from the desert newly scarred and somehow strangely prettier with lucky seventh album, Villains, set for release on Matador Records.
Produced by Mark Ronson and co-produced by Mark Rankin and mixed by Alan Moulder, Villains is the first full album offering from Queens Of The Stone Age since 2013's Like Clockwork gave the band its first #1 albumin the U.S. Like the stunning artwork of returning illustrator Boneface, the sonic signatures of the lineup that took Like Clockwork around the world and back are as unmistakable as ever, though coexisting with sufficient new twists to induce recurring double takes. As Homme himself puts it, The most important aspect of making this record was redefining our sound, asking and answering the question 'what do we sound like now?' If you can't make a great first record, you should just stop-but if you can make a great record but you keep making records and your sound doesn't evolve, you become a parody of that original sound.
Longtime Queens cohort co-producer Mark Rankin added, After the baptism of fire that was Like Clockwork,I was excited to get into the studio again with the challenge of pushing the sound for this record, especially with the addition of Ronson into the creative mix What we've made is forward looking yet unmistakably Queens.LP 1

Parallels (Pre-Order)An overwhelmingly pleasant listen - Pitchfork
[Nosaj Thing is] a progressive, genre-clashing and boundary-breaking producer. - Hypebeast
Parallels is the fourth full album released under Jason Chung's distinctive moniker, Nosaj Thing. Masterfully dimensional, Parallels Represents the acclaimed Los Angeles-based electronic producer/composer/performer's most diverse, vital work yet. As such, Chung sees Parallels represents a kind of redemptive rebirth. The album's compellingly elusive, uncategorizable sonics developed out of what he terms a personal & musical identity crisis.
According to Chung, working with a group of collaborators on Parallels that combined both longtime friends and new creative partners added new energy which pushed me not to limit myself.Everything felt fresh and alive. The title Parallels in fact evokes the intense, intimate duality Nosaj Thing and his collaborators share.Chung is known specifically for his innovative, unexpected musical pairings: Kid Cudi hit up on Nosaj Thing via his MySpace page in2006, resulting in Chung producing Cudi's autobiographical classicThe Man on the Moon. Kendrick Lamar flowed over Nosaj's ethereal boom bap to create the YouTube gem Cloud 10; Chance the Rapper, meanwhile, freaked a Nosaj beat for his 2013 breakout masterpiece Paranoia and appeared on Nosaj Thing's previous LP,2015's Fated. Chung and Blonde Redhead vocalist Kazu Makino are also longtime creative partners on each other's work; her voice appears on Parallels as an otherworldly spirit animating the icily'80s-synthetic How We Do.1.
