    So: 25th Anniversary Box Set

Ranked 187/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Peter Gabriel's iconic So album remastered and expanded for the 25th anniversary edition

One of the most successful and iconic music releases of the Eighties, Peter Gabriel's 1986 album, So, has been digitally remastered for a special 25th Anniversary Edition to be released by Real World Records/EMI. Peter Gabriel has confirmed a 16-date North American tour for September and October, with many of the musicians from his 1987 'So' tour joining him to perform the album from start to finish, as well as other hits spanning his solo career.

Peter Gabriel's So topped charts around the world, hitting Number 1 in the UK, Canada, Italy, and Holland and Number 2 in the US and Germany. So became a decade-defining album and the best-selling release of Gabriel's solo career, landing an international array of multi-Platinum certifications, including quintuple-Platinum in the US with sales of more than five million copies.

Launched with the huge hit single ''Sledgehammer'' and its groundbreaking music video (which remains MTV's most played video of all time), So also includes ''In Your Eyes,'' famously featured in Cameron Crowe's film 'Say Anything,' the haunting duet ''Don't Give Up,'' performed with Kate Bush, and ''Big Time,'' Gabriel's bombastic, tongue-in-cheek commentary on '80s extravagance. Co-produced by Gabriel and Daniel Lanois, the album also includes contributions from Laurie Anderson, Stewart Copeland, Jim Kerr, Bill Laswell, and Nile Rodgers.

So's 25th Anniversary Edition will be available on a 4CD/2DVD/LP/12'' Deluxe, Limited Edition box set.

The box set includes the remastered album on CD and on 180-gram vinyl which has been mastered at half speed to maximize the audio quality and re-sequenced so the tracklist, unlike that of the original LP, is as Peter Gabriel had originally envisioned. The set also features a bounty of previously unreleased audio and video content, including the two Athens concert CDs and a 'So DNA' CD of work-in-progress drafts of So's songs, mapping the album's evolution from concept to completion.

One of the box set's two DVDs features the fully restored Athens concert, which was filmed and recorded by director Michael Chapman and executive produced by Martin Scorsese. Gabriel's first concert to be filmed, the footage has been assembled for the first time from more than 150 reels of original 35mm negatives and its audio has been mixed in 5.1 surround. The box set's second DVD features a new 'So: Classic Album' documentary. The latest addition to the acclaimed and award-winning 'Classic Album' series tells the story behind the making of the album and its music videos, with contributions from many of those involved, including interviews with Gabriel and Lanois, among others.

The box set also includes a 12-inch double A-side vinyl single with two previously unreleased tracks from the So sessions, ''Courage'' and ''Sangrada,'' plus an alternate version of ''Don't Give Up'' (Piano and Bvox Mix). A 60-page case-bound book with an introduction and 'So DNA' summary written by Peter Gabriel, new liner notes, and an extensive collection of rare and never before seen photographs completes the set.

    Box Contents:

A Vocal Tour de Force: 1986 Sophomore Effort Stacked With Big-Name Guests and Ambitious Arrangements

Grammy-Nominated Double-Platinum Set Includes Internationally Recognized Title Track Plus Top 10 Singles "What's Going On" and "Change of Heart"

Illuminative Sonics: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

Cyndi Lauper could've easily played up the independent wild-child pop persona she established on her breakthrough debut until the trend faded. Instead, on her superb sophomore effort, the charismatic artist opts for a more mature and creatively ambitious program, inviting big-name guests and pursuing deeper instrumental textures on a set that goes far beyond the well-known title track. True Colors is a vocal tour de force, an expressive statement on which Lauper showcases singing steeped in emotion, phrasing, and earnestness.

Bringing Lauper's rich timbre to the fore, and mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system, this RTI-pressed LP presents the 1986 album in the finest fidelity it's ever enjoyed. Period touches such as synthesized drumbeats and layered keyboards no longer sound blatantly artificial or canned. Instruments now possess a warmer, fuller roundness that fleshes out their role in the compositions. And Lauper's vocals-at times balladic, soaring, plaintive, stylish, and celebratory-occupy a defined place in the mix, anchoring songs etched with tonal expressiveness and diverse arrangements.

An all-star cast aids Lauper in shaping what remains a colossally underrated record. Billy Joel (vocals), Adrian Belew (guitar), the Bangles (vocals), Aimee Mann (vocals), Nile Rodgers (guitar), and Rick Derringer (guitar) are among the guests. So is Pee Wee Herman, whose telephone operator role at the conclusion of "911" speaks to the fact that Lauper didn't abandon her whimsical nature even as she pressed forward. Cajun accents, soulful motifs ("What's Going On"), and joyous covers of traditional fare ("Iko Iko") keep the album pleasantly varied and accessibly offbeat.

Of course, Lauper also turns in, with "True Colors," what's arguably her career-defining moment, the chart-topping single radiating with gorgeous elegance and graceful phrasing that forced audiences to regard the performer in a different light. For her boldness, Lauper was rewarded with two Grammy nominations and a song that has since been covered by artists such as Phil Collins and appeared as the theme for the 1988 Olympic Games and 2003 Rugby World Cup.

Don't miss this chance to hear True Colors in the three-dimensional detail one gets from a high-definition television picture.

    From Genesis To Revelation

    Clear Vinyl

'Better and darker than I thought.' That was Mike Rutherford's 2014 assessment of his band Genesis's first album. At the time of its release in 1969 only 650 copies passed over the counter, despite a rave review from International Times magazine. Its verdict, 'A beautiful, entirely valid musical exercise'. As the seventies progressed however,
the original mono copies became much sought after and a reissue briefly made the charts. So early fans and late adopters alike will, like Mike Rutherford, find something to enjoy in this naïve but promising debut disc.

Vinyl Cut By Matt Colton At Alchemy Mastering, Mastered By Tony Cousins At Metropolis And Overseen By Peter's Main Sound Engineer Richard Chappell

Produced by Steve Lillywhite this third album saw Peter change his writing style; now the rhythm came before the melody and the songs were built up on top of the rhythmic sequences. The album delivered a top 5 UK single in Games Without Frontiers and Peter's first overtly political song in the shape of totemic closer Biko. It also features notable contributions from Kate Bush, Paul Weller, Phil Collins and David Rhodes. Half-Speed Remastered and cut to lacquers at 33RPM, on heavyweight LP. Vinyl cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, mastered by Tony Cousins at Metropolis and overseen by Peter's main sound engineer Richard Chappell. These albums really have never sounded so good! Steven Wilson will release his expansive, brilliant fifth album, To The Bone, via Caroline International. It is the follow-up to 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase. (one of Rolling Stone's best albums of 2015). A gloriously dynamic modernist pop record as imagined by the UK's biggest underground artist, To The Bone is Steven Wilson's hat-tip to the hugely ambitious progressive pop records of his youth (think Peter Gabriel's So, Talk Talk's Colour of Spring, Tears for Fears Seeds of Love).

    The Belt

He's from Memphis, equally steeped in Link Wray and Phil Collins. She's a small town girl raised in Muskegon, Michigan, who found her songwriting
inspiration while living on a small boat in the West Indies. Jeffrey Jacob and Angela Gail met in Los Angeles, playing guitar and bass, respectively, in a
loud, grungy guitar band, but the seeds of In the Valley Below were planted one night at SXSW, when they realized there was something special in the
passion and chemistry they shared on-stage.

The two wrote, produced, engineered and recorded their own songs in a home studio. Two of the 11 songs on their debut are mixed by the band, with the
others handled by John Congleton [St.Vincent, David Byrne], Dave Sardy [Oasis, Band of Horses], Lasse Marten [Lykke Li, Peter, Bjorn & John] Angela
and Jeffrey never even intended for In the Valley Below to be a performing band, so it turned out to be a pleasant surprise when the songs were so good
they demanded to be played for people. Filled with emotions from guilt to hope, and encouraging voyeurism, when they announce to their audience, "We
are In the Valley Below," they immediately invite us to join their communal world, one with no boundaries and whose limits are only defined by our
    collective imagination.

An idiosyncratic, deeply individual voice - Clash Magazine

The new album from Tropics, aka 27 year old Chris Ward, looks
outwards, armed with a newfound confidence that foregrounds his
    vocal performance and songwriting.

It's a musical progression that mirrors a personal one: the early Tropics
output was all made in the idyllic, if isolated setting of Ward's
grandmother's empty house in the seaside town of Southsea, which
he moved into after graduating from university to focus on writing
and recording. He was alone there - "like, really alone. For days, I had
literally no distractions." Having moved to London in 2013, Ward now
splits his time between the city and the road, having played in
America, Mexico and across Europe throughout the past year with his
live band Keith Vaz and Morgan Hislop.

Tropics' new full-length Rapture is the culmination of this journey. A multi-instrumentalist
from an early age, Ward has always drawn on his musical upbringing
when composing, but this time around he's pushed himself to develop
a fuller sound than ever with the help of Vaz, Hislop and specialist jazz
drummer Gillan McLaughlin. Taking influence from Beach Boys, Max
Roach and Arthur Russell, Ward has crafted an album that fuses his
    love of avant-garde percussion, 70s and 80s singer-songwriters such
as Peter Gabriel known for pop-leaning hooks, and deep production
that takes cues from ambient music.

The very first iterance of the record is the crystal clear vocal that kicks
off 'Blame'. Ward explains that performing live so much caused him to
step outside of his comfort zone: "I used to be a bit dubious about
using my vocal too much, and felt like my strength was in sampling
and playing keys. It's kind of switched now in that I feel a lot more
comfortable just holding a microphone and losing myself." Inspired by
the vocal performances of the likes of Little Dragon and Innovative
Leisure labelmates Rhye, Ward also found a new lease of life in
    experimenting with more androgynous vocals.

But even as his sound has greater scope than ever before, Rapture is
still a deeply personal endeavour. The majority of the songs started
life in Ward's home, in front of a piano, before being built on in the
studio. The first half of the record is a chronicle of a whirlwind
relationship: the piano-led title track "Rapture" addresses this theme,
striving for the throes of ecstatic happiness but never quite making it
there. "It's got this feeling of hope and joy, even though it is coming
from a sad place," says Ward. "It's about the struggles in your life to
get to where you want to be." Elsewhere, lyrics such as, "You ran away
just like my luck did" hint at Ward's love for literature and his poetic
touch, something he further explores on the album's second side.
Later, the album grows more ambient and the literary references more
apparent. "Gloria" takes its name from the character of a frustrated
wife in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and Damned. Likewise,
"Torrents of Spring" - also named for a work of 20th century American
fiction - builds to a sax-led climax over two painstaking minutes, and
the penultimate "House of Leaves" is "a really slow-burning ambient
instrumental; it's kind of a nod to the first stuff I made".

Whether filling dance floors or simply filling up your headspace,
Rapture is an intricate and intimate record that presents the many
faces of Tropics in a more revealing light than ever before.

"If you can get people dancing as early as noon. You're good. They did." - NPR 'All Songs Considered'

"Ghost Beach are the Venn diagram of their influences-Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, The Police, and Daft Punk
-and then some, thanks to a shitload of synths, some nostalgic 80s sonics and even the occasional reggae groove.
The sound is unmistakably their own." - VICE's Noisey

Ghost Beach, the New York-based duo of Josh Ocean and Eric "Doc" Mendelsohn, bring together the two worlds of
electronic and live performance whose sound is self-described as "Tropical Grit Pop." "We like writing pop music. We
draw a lot from the 80's, including Peter Gabriel, The Police and Talking Heads," says Ocean. "Their music incorporated
synthesizers and drum machines, had tons of energy and it had a very eclectic sound. From a songwriting standpoint, that
is where we draw our inspiration and today we attempt to bridge the gap by using a similar sonic palette in combination
with modern recording technologies including Ableton." added Mendelsohn.

On their debut full-length album Blonde, Ghost Beach once again perfects a blend of retro and futuristic soaring synth-pop, none more so evident than in the searing single "Miracle." Blonde features a mix of newly recorded material and
a handful of tracks from the bands self-released Modern Tongues EP. All previously released songs will be remixed,
re-mastered and enhanced for the forthcoming release.

Ghost Beach is not purely electronic or purely a live band, but a realization of what lies in the middle. Josh plays the jilted
lover with vocal panache as Eric's soaring synths, guitars and forever young harmonies are plucked right out of Neverland.
Ghost Beach is more about a time than a place, and that time is now.

    Good Mood Fool

In the winter Luke Temple moved into a cottage, a small one, in upstate New York. The snow fell quietly. He had frozen blueberries and bread and eggs and Coors Original. He sang and drank and played and drank and ate and shoveled snow and when the snow melted and the roads cleared he had his friends. Eliot Kirmsky (Glass Ghost) and Mike Johnson (Dirty Projectors) dug into Luke's hut and together they built a fire. Luke called it Good Mood Fool.

Originally from Cape Anne, Massachusetts, Luke moved to the North West, sleeping rough in the woods,
working in a candy store and as a janitor at a suburban mall. While in Seattle Luke met some people headed down the coast. All of his aimlessness lasted a year and half before Luke had had enough. He enrolled in school of the Museum of Fine Arts and spent five years painting portraits, after which Luke moved to New York and worked as a muralist and plasterer. As painting drifted from the foreground little songs started to emerge. He tried them out at the famous Sidewalk CafÉ Monday open mic and the people there liked it.

After recording two critically acclaimed albums for Mill Pond, to little commercial reception, Luke was at the point of quitting a career in music. In 2008, feeling free in his new state, he made what would become the first Here We Go Magic album, forming the band and releasing the self-titled debut in 2009. Positive critical and commercial response to the record kept Luke busy with Here We Go Magic through touring and recording two more full lengths and an EP. Since Here We Go Magic's 2012 release, A Different Ship, Luke has returned to his original solo ideas.

In a sense Good Mood Fool is an extension of the first self-titled Here We Go Magic record. It was recorded with the same sense of freedom and joy. The meat of the record finds Luke taking a sharp turn in order to keep himself interested. First single Katie is a prime slice of mid-80s intelligent pop, almost So-era Peter Gabriel in its rhythms and sound. Meanwhile, Florida is a blue-eyed soul hit, a lazy sunny evening of summer beauty. Good Mood Fool draws from myriad influences, from the hushed soulful wail of Curtis Mayfield to the dense
harmonies of Gill Evans and the Bulgarian Women's Choir. It is meant to be clear in production and in content, hiding nothing.

    Strange Weekend (Awaiting Repress)

Strange Weekend is Porcelain Rafts debut record, yet in many ways its his 156th. Somewhere in New York, Rome, or maybe London, there is a suitcase full of tapes, minidiscs and CDs, days and days worth of music, all of it the result of Mauro Remiddis 27 years of travels across Europe, from his native Italy to London; of caravaning with the Berlin Youth Circus playing traditional gypsy Klezmer music; of reinterpreting traditional music in North Korea; and of a stint playing piano for an Off Broadway tap dance show.

Amazingly, Strange Weekend, with deep roots in so many times and places, is an album that beautifully captures the fleeting right now. Remiddis interest in movement, about capturing a momentary now en route to the next, is apparent; postcards and polaroids of buildings and faces from the street flicker past. The projects genesis lies in this visual imagery. Over the past year, Remiddi has compiled a catalogue of images, gathered from the various nooks and crannies of the internet, that have served as notes, inspiration, context and a map for Porcelain Rafts music.

Remiddis androgynous vapor of a voice weaves like a ghost between Nick Gilder and The Alessi Brothers, Julee Cruise and Judee Sill. In more contemporary terms, Porcelain Raft stands confidently on a high hill between the sounds of M83 and Beach House. Lead track Drifting In and Out is loping and anthemic; gauzy and chiming. Shapeless and Gone follows with a heavy strum reminiscent of Cosmic Dancer, full of mood and style without all the wearying excesses and feathered boas. Porcelain Rafts thesis statement hits when side-B kicks off with Unless You Speak From Your Heart. Remiddis enigmatic vocals carrying a hook so simple that you might think you sang it first; keys and bass that might make the needle jump off of your turntable; and a sense of raw sincerity that has come to trademark Remiddis songs is what ultimately resonates.

And here, the myriad travels crystallize into something visceral; you may not be able to see the visuals Remiddi holds so dear, but you can feel them throughout Strange Weekend, and they stay with you as you travel on. Strange Weekend might have been made in a small place (a Brooklyn basement, in fact), but it is huge dream-pop, with melodies and synths billowing out in all directions.

    Brothers

W/ CD version of the album included.

The maturation of the Black Keys as record makers and performers has been both subtle and startling. With their 2008 Nonesuch release Attack & Release, the fifth album of their eight-year career which doubled the sales of their previous album and Nonesuch debut Magic Potion, guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney illustrated the durability of their few-frills sound, a mysterious and heavy brew of '70s-vintage rock, classic R&B and timeless, downhearted blues. Producer and pal Danger Mouse, their first outside collaborator, didn't try to reinvent their sound but further isolated its essence with the help of a few carefully chosen guest players and some retro-modern electronic gear. It didn't need to get slicker to get better, or, as the Boston Globe put it, Attack & Release proves that cleaning up the boys still won't stop them from tracking mud all over the house.

Danger Mouse returned to co-produce Tighten Up on Brothers, but for the most part, the duo was on its own, spending ten days at the legendary Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama and coming up with the an even more intensely focused, deeply soulful set that includes a cover of Jerry Butler's Never Gonna Give You Up. The performances are inventive and impassioned: Auerbach extends his vocal range to falsetto on lead-off track Everlasting Light and The Only One; Howlin' For You opens with a Gary Glitter-style drum riff and the chorus practically invites singing along. The tunes offer a surprising amount of lyrical candor and more than a little dark humor; the grooves alternate between ballsy swagger and bluesy rumination. The album reflects where Auerbach and Carney have been lately, most recently collaborating with a who's who of New York City MC's, including RZA, Q Tip, Mos Def and Raekwon on the 2009 BlakRocBlack Keys fan Damon Dash. They've also pursued projects on their own, Auerbach with his solo Keep It Hid album and tour, Carney with his band Drummer and its debut disc, Feels Good Together. Their maturation didn't happen just in the studio, though. Carney admits, Dan and I grew up a lot as individuals and musicians prior to making this album. Our relationship was tested in many ways but at the end of the day, we're brothers, and I think these songs reflect that. super-session organized by hip-hop impresario and

Brothers was primarily cut in Muscle Shoals, a setting that turned out to have more in common with the Akron, Ohio factories where the Black Keys used to record. The place was desolate, the town depressed, so once again the duo slipped into a world all its own. They did additional recording at Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound System in Akron and The Bunker in Brooklyn. The album was mixed by engineer Tchad Blake, a veteran of sessions with Los Lobos, Pearl Jam and Peter Gabriel. Says Carney, The way he approaches mixing is the same way we approach making music. The High Frontier

Lumerians release The High Frontier on through Partisan Records. The name for the album comes from a term coined by Gerard K. O'Neil in his illustrated 1976 book depicting human colonisation of space. The High Frontier contains Krautrock inspired exploration, Afrobeat's ritualistic rhythms, post-punk guitar noise and cracked-glacÉ synth lines culled from perverse 1970s sci-fi soundtracks.

It's a cacophony of sound in which Lumerians acknowledge the role noise and rhythm has always played in transcendent and ecstatic rituals the world over, from the repetitious drums of tribal animists to the penetrating electronic pulses of neon dance clubs.

The six tracks and 33 minutes that make up The High Frontier were recorded and produced in Lumerians' self-built studio/brewery: a room housed in a converted store-front church in a neighbourhood affectionately referred to as the "Murder Dubbs".

The High Frontier brings back the sound of prog rock that was so familiar in the 70s. Uncut described the album as: "a fruitful collision between Boredoms, Neu! and the Grateful Dead" and they are spot on.

Track one Dogon Genesis could easily fit itself into the 70s with no questions asked. Dogon Genesis is a fantastic first track that prepares the listener for the rest of the album. Dogon Genesis could refer to the Dogon tribe of Mali which gives a good indication of how bonkers the record is.

Title track The High Frontier has a completely different sound to that of Dogon Genesis. It's a slower tempo with more deep, bass tones coming through. The drum beat produces a mesmerising rhythm alongside the swooping synth sounds.

Previously disclosed track, The Bloom follows the same theme as The High Frontier. It's strange and eery. It is probably the most experimental song on the record which introduces lots of sounds and plays with the concepts of prog rock to create a brilliantly atmospheric track. The synth sounds heard at the beginning almost sound like sirens, building a sense of tension and fear into the listener.

Koman Tong breaks the album away from eerie and unnerving and plunges it into summer happiness. Koman Tong is still very experimental but it starts to introduce the idea of world influences into Lumerians' music, the guitar is distorted leading it to sound faintly like a sitar in parts while gongs and bells can be heard in the background. It's the best track on the record by far. There is just so much to catch and involve yourself in that you will instantly become lost in the music - cliched as it may sound.

Smokies Tangle turns the album back to its 70s prog rock style while the last track, Life Without Skin again oozes world influences, foreign vocals and jazz inspired drum beats to create a superb end track. It has a fantastic rhythm and melody and can easily be placed as one of the best songs on The High Frontier. It's also one of the only tracks on the album that uses influences from Lounge - think Bonobo vs prog rock and you're almost there.

The High Frontier is a mesmerizing account of weirdness and oddity that will leave you wanting to hear more. Each track has so many layers to it that you really will become immersed in this record. It's 33 minutes of experiments, fusion of genres and rule-breaking in the music world. A triumph.

Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (Colored Vinyl)

Pressed On Clear Pink & Clear Blue Vinyl

With these soft spoken words on the simply-titled opening track-"Intro"- M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez introduces us to his sixth record and first double disc album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.

Dauntlessly singing into the void that was left behind since Saturdays=Youth, Gonzalez suddenly surges with overwhelming emotion as the music mounts an invisible precipice. Historically, he softly eased you into his world, introducing you to the lush and radiant spaces between captivating melodies and intimate lyrics, but not this time. Not on this record.

Graduating from the fuzzy, fumbling emotional cobwebs and draped ambiance of past records, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming careens past its audience. Brazenly stretching out along the horizon, spilling glittery, golden arms of sound across the landscape, it holds your breath hostage without you even noticing you were missing it. If it seemed that Anthony was basking in the sunshine-drenched days of his youth when he released Saturdays in 2008, then it can be said that in 2011, at the age of 30, he is tempestuously charging towards his future with Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.

Relocating to Los Angeles from Antibes, Gonzalez surrounded himself with players pivotal to completing his childhood dream of a double disc record. Producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and guitarist Brad Laner (from 90s band Medicine) had been hugely influential on Anthony growing up and now were central to the new record's creation.

"In France there is this show on TV where at the end there is a musical guest who plays one or two songs. I remember one night when I was a teenager being at home watching the best of performances and looking at this crazy bass player with a big afro and thinking, 'Wow this guy is so cool.' "And now I am working with him. It's so intense that thinking about it makes me feel weird. But it's weird in a super good way. Same thing with Brad, I was listening to his music when I was first getting into music and now he's on my album."

Anthony and Justin met backstage in 2009 at Scotland's T In The Park. Later, "he came to me very genuinely stating that 'he was a fan and that he would love to work with me,'" explains Gonzalez. "I love when people do that because I can tell it's coming from the heart. He was sincere and that's the way I like to work with people."

Stepping away from his work with producers Ken Thomas and Ewan Pearson on Saturday, Gonzalez freckles his new chapter with signature M83 fingerprints while pushing himself beyond the constricting emotions of a guarded musician. Bored with being frustrated and shy, Anthony is respectful of the precious time given to him and doesn't want to leave behind any regrets, thus thrusting himself into the spotlight vocally. He tests out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream, and each voice clings to us like a dew-heavy spider web at dawn.

Fans will recognize band member Morgan Kibby, her vocals flirting with the shadowy places in between verses, leaping off the record in spoken word or blending with an adult choir. Morgan will join Anthony on tour but she was never meant to sing as much on this record as she had on pervious projects. Quenching his desire to work with a different person on each record, Gonzalez added LA-based chanteuse Zola Jesus to the mix for the completion of "Intro." "The song was already written but I really wanted a female vocal on it and I was kind of struggling to find the right person, but then I heard her music and it just made sense."

Where Saturday=Youth is drenched in lustful exploration and hungry adolescent wonder, Hurry Up is decadently cunning and seductive. "Intro" and "My tears are becoming a sea" eerily croon to you, swirling all of the glitter and growth from the past records into an epic swell, mysteriously and dramatically warning you of the impact you are about to experience. "Midnight City" (disc one) and "OK Pal" (disc two) are humid, adrenaline driven dreams unlike anything we have heard from M83 in the past. "Midnight City" adeptly sweeps you through abandoned concrete streets swimming in broken neon light and aggressively pushing and pulsating to synthetic beats. While "OK Pal" catcalls you to a locker full of mapped out Peter Gabriel-esque echoing lyrics, leaving you stranded in a post-apocalyptic landscape. These journeys are about awakening, craving and conquering. Throughout Hurry Up, We're Dreaming Anthony carries the listener to different countries of sound in his own universe, "We didn't need a story, we didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking and we became the stories- we became the places." Drifting away from his previous records and reigned in politeness he unleashes all that he has been dreaming of and yearning for. Even when he takes a second to look back on "Echoes of Mine" the velvety, elderly voice of a woman heartbreakingly tells the story of a girl drenched in the shadows of her youth, knowing she has to grow up.

Grandiose in scale and inspired by Smashing Pumpkin's revered double disc Melancholy & The Infinite Sadness, Anthony has long had the goal to create his own monumental double disc record. "I saw when I was a teenager that I could dig into it [the album]. It was like a treasure. If I were a teenager nowadays I would try to find something as creative as this album. They had so much to say in their songs."

Impressed with the juxtaposing sun and moon artwork featured on Melancholy, Anthony focuses in on another natural duality: siblings. The cover artwork mirrors this relationship, featuring a photograph of a little boy with a little girl sitting on a bed. The photograph perpetuates the conversation for the two distinct voices we behind each disc, representing two sides of an overall piece that are almost the same. "I want people to listen to it as two different human beings that are connected somehow, but every song on the album has a secret on the other side."

Soaring and scraping up against the sky while sharing each uncharted frontier with new collaborators is what M83 does best. Gracefully coming into the next decade of his life, Anthony delivers what makes each record sincere, innocent, and full of joy: he gives us his past and his future.

"I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It's a compilation of all my previous music together. It's a retrospective of myself."

    True Romance

Over the past few years, Charli has released a series of singles and mixtapes, toured the globe supporting the likes of Coldplay, Santigold, Sleigh Bells and Justice and garnered champions from practically every tastemaker blog and magazine on both sides of the Atlantic. She's had 2.5 million views on YouTube, 470k views of new video for 'You (Ha Ha Ha)' (in one month) and over 630k total plays on Soundcloud. It's hard to believe someone so young could achieve so much. Through it all her main focus has always been on making the best possible album she could. This was made possible by working with some fantastic collaborators who helped hone her vision for a dark, emotional pop record including Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher, Major Lazer, Solange), Patrik Berger (Lana del Rey, Robyn) as well as hotly tipped blog favourites Blood Diamonds and J£zus Millions.

As well as being an artist in her own right, Charli has written and featured on one of the biggest global breakthrough hits of 2012 for Icona Pop. I Love It created an absolute frenzy stateside, having blown up all over the world.

True Romance shares its title with an unbelievably well-cast 1993 movie written by Quentin Tarantino, who was reassembling cultural detritus way before mash-ups and microblogging. Charli XCX's approach to pop is similarly postmodern (how 90s does that sound?), pulling from moody 80s synth-pop, sassy turn-of-the-millennium girl groups, and state-of-the-art contemporary producers to create something distinctive and immediately memorable. She clearly understands the internet, having shared two original mixtapes and two influences mixtapes before her official full-length, but this carefully pruned set is no data dump. And there you'll see a glimmer of True Romance's most throwback aspect: its evident pop ambition, an overriding sense of an imagined mass audience for music that's radio-ready yet outsider-friendly. It's almost like Napster-- and the filler-crammed album sales model that preceded it-- never happened.

In fact, by the time Charli XCX was a teenage electro-house devotee, illegal file-sharing's early free-for-all had already given way to iTunes and other legal download services. Robyn had already released her self-titled comeback album. So it might be only natural that Charli XCX would keep the pre-bubble faith that people will pay for emotionally direct, bubblegum-catchy, yet stubbornly left-of-center songs about falling in and out of love. But the generous hooks on the previously released singles here, such as the gospel-kissed prechorus of the yearning Stay Away or the Santigold-savvy lilt of love-and-the-bomb brooder Nuclear Seasons, are extraordinarily welcome just the same. Even better are newer singles such as the gorgeously bitter You (Ha Ha Ha), which inhabits its cloud-rappy Gold Panda sample like they were made for each other, and the almost-as-gorgeously blissful What I Like, which recounts a still-young relationship with the cheeky frankness of Lily Allen or the Streets, and the sing-songy near-rapping of the Spice Girls.

The several songs on True Romance that hadn't previously surfaced in videos or other releases aren't quite as strong, but they're effective enough to suggest Charli XCX's best work might still be ahead of her. The Todd Rundgren-sampling So Far Away, with the sun-dappled lushness of the Avalanches, is a clear highlight; Charli XCX's vocals are usually plain-spoken, but the anguished break-up plea Set Me Free proves she can reach for Jessie Ware-like dramatics when appropriate. The pitch-shifting no one is forever intro added at the start of opener Nuclear Seasons probably should've been given its own track-- and later on the album it is, when the same backing vocal forms the base of the cloudy, broken-hearted Grins. Elsewhere, the haunted confession How Can I, while solid enough, is a reminder that Charli XCX's lyrics so far tend to fall relatively flat; when, on swooning finale Lock You Up, she sings, It hits me like a ton of bricks, she leaves the clichÉ untweaked.

And then there's Cloud Aura, a lovelorn, engagingly laid-back bit of groove that lets Grimes' Genesis video co-star Brooke Candy rap horribly about Chris Brown. Candy's guest verse previously appeared on 2012's uneven Super Ultra mixtape, and it was near-universally panned. It isn't any better now. But in an era when too many up-and-comers are all too eager to please, this stubborn refusal to back down displays another quality in short supply: genuine irreverence. The songwriting and production credits on True Romance include Usher's Climax co-conspirator Ariel Rechtshaid and I Love It collaborator Patrick Berger, among others, who also share some credit (and blame). But like 90s pop stars turned 10s pop sophisticates Justin Timberlake and BeyoncÉ, Charli XCX stamps her personality across the entire project, and True Romance suggests she'll be worth following for a while.
