Mr. Tambourine ManRanked 232/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
One of the greatest debuts in the history of rock, Mr. Tambourine Man was nothing less than a significant step in the evolution of rock & roll itself, demonstrating that intelligent lyrical content could be wedded to compelling electric guitar riffs and a solid backbeat. It was also the album that was most responsible for establishing folk-rock as a popular phenomenon, its most alluring traits being Roger McGuinn's immediately distinctive 12-string Rickenbacker jangle and the band's beautiful harmonies. The material was uniformly strong, whether they were interpreting Bob Dylan (on the title cut and three other songs, including the hit single All I Really Want to Do), Pete Seeger (The Bells of Rhymney), or Jackie DeShannon (Don't Doubt Yourself, Babe). The originals were lyrically less challenging, but equally powerful musically, especially Gene Clark's I Knew I'd Want You, I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better, and Here Without You; It's No Use showed a tougher, harder-rocking side and a guitar solo with hints of psychedeliaMr. Tambourine Man

Ballads & BluesOne of the greatest American folk-blues singers of all time, Josh White (1914-1969) is perhaps the artist most responsible for introducing African American folk and blues to white America. By the time this intimate collection of lesser-known spirituals, prison blues and protest songs was released in 1957 for Elektra, Josh White was just beginning to make a comeback after having his career nearly destroyed by a McCarthy blacklisting. Although White was not a Communist, he was outspoken on issues of Civil Rights. He famously was the first black artist to give a White House Command Performance (1941) and earn a million selling record (with One Meatball in 1944). In 1963 he was ranked Americas third most popular folksinger (after Harry Belafonte and Pete Seeger) and performed at Martin Luther King, Jr.s March On Washington. By his death in 1969 he was the best-known folk-blues musician in America.Side 1

Bidin' My Time (Pre-Order)Chris Hillman, whose credits include co-founding Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Byrds, as well as the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas and Desert Rose Band, is truly one of the architects of American music. His newest solo work, Bidin' My Time, produced by Tom Petty and executive-produced by Herb Pedersen, captures a rarity: an icon who has never sounded better, making music with old friends for the sheer love of it.
Collaborators and admirers from Hillman's storied career appear throughout the record: Tom Petty; Hillman's Byrds bandmates David Crosby and Roger McGuinn; the Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, and Steve Ferrone; Desert Rose Band's John Jorgenson, Pedersen, and Jay Dee Maness; premier upright bassist Mark Fain; singer/guitarist Josh JovÉ; and fiddler Gabe Witcher.
The album kicks off with a new recording of Pete Seeger's and Welsh poet Idris Davies' 'The Bells of Rhymney,' which the Byrds recorded for their debut. 'Here She Comes Again' was co-written by Hillman and McGuinn and, until now, had only been recorded on a live Byrds album in Australia. 'She Don't Care About Time' was written by Byrds co-founder Gene Clark, and was the original B-side to 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' Covers of the Everly Brothers' 'Walk Right Back' and Petty's 'Wildflowers' round out this understated yet undeniable masterpiece.

Peter, Paul & Mary: In Concert
Peter, Paul & Mary In Concert Reissue From Analogue Productions!
200-Gram Pressing By Quality Record Pressings!
Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
This double album originally released in 1964 opens with a then-new Bob Dylan song, The Times They Are A' Changin', and closes with the best-known song ever written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hayes, If I Had a Hammer. That seems to sum up Peter, Paul & Mary, but In Concert offers a lot more than that, writes All Music Guide.
The surprises include vignettes in blues and gospel, and, most notably, the group's humorous digressions. Peter, Paul & Mary spared few opportunities for a good laugh on stage, beginning with the introduction to A' Soalin', which shows off a lightheartedness that was an essential part of who they were, even as it leads into an exquisitely sung round-like piece that should have found its way into the repertory of Steeleye Span. Blue gives the trio a chance to play around with rock & roll, from doo wop to British Invasion, through the song Old Blue (satirizing folk music purists at the same time), and Paul Stookey adds his own sound effect embellishments to Woody Guthrie's Car-Car. The solo spots are also worthwhile, particularly Peter Yarrow's introspective version of Le Deserteur, followed by his dazzling, rousing sing-along on Oh, Rock My Soul; and Mary Travers' rendition of Single Girl, a low-key proto-feminist song. The group's rendition of It's Raining achieves an exquisite mix of gossamer textured harmonizing and thematic innocence, and their rendition of the Reverend Gary Davis' If I Had My Way is a bracing re-interpretation for three interwoven voices. Finally, the version of If I Had a Hammer that closes this album is superior to their hit single of the same song. Mastered by Kevin Gray, 200-gram pressing by Quality Record Pressings, gatefold jacket.

Turn! Turn! Turn! (On Sale)To quote the original liner notes of The Byrds' second album, Protests growled briefly and died in great, wheezing gasps. The Byrds, unfettered, looked the other way and sang love songs. In 1965, America was beginning to enter a time of vehement political and social division and if anyone was looking for a song that flawlessly described the time, the title track of this album was a Godsend...literally. Originally taken by Pete Seeger from the 3rd chapter of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' was such a powerful anthem for all involved in the social unrest--both weary politicians and youths burning their draft cards--that the other songs on the album did not need to consist of other political messages. The Byrds decided one anthem was enough, and filled Turn! Turn! Turn! with great songs about love and searches for personal enlightenment.
The group's debut Mr. Tambourine Man had been largely carried by vocalist Gene Clark's creative originals, and four Bob Dylan covers among others. Clark's songs also carry Turn! Turn! Turn! when it comes to the creative output of the bandmembers, but Roger (Jim) McGuinn was establishing himself as the counterpart to Clark's work. The love songs he co-wrote, 'It Won't Be Wrong' and 'Wait and See' (co-authored by budding Byrd David Crosby) were not up to the standards of those set by Gene Clark, but his arranging of folk standards and 12-string Rickenbacker playing show his influence. McGuinn brilliantly turns an old folk song 'He Was A Friend Of Mine' into a beautiful lament for John F. Kennedy, the additional lyrics McGuinn added delicately describing the tragic assassination of a president. Also a nice move is the jangle of 'Oh Susannah,' which features great interplay between McGuinn's Rickenbacker and Michael Clarke's drum kit. 'Satisfied Mind' is one of the best covers the Byrds ever did, sincere and simple, and covers of 'The Times They Are-A Changing' and 'Lay Down Your Weary Tune' helped convince Dylan himself that the group was a solid talent. He told McGuinn Up until I heard this ['Lay Down Your Weary Tune'] I thought you were just another immitator.
But Gene Clark again eclipses with his love songs; one of the most creative ballad writers of all time, Clark's songs were never cliched or tongue-in-cheek, and always down-to-Earth. 'If You're Gone' has to be one of his most moving vocal performances ever. 'Set You Free This Time' and 'The World Turns All Around Her' display the kind of songwriting the pop world needs today. His 'She Don't Care About Time' single is fortunately included as a bonus track on this remaster, along with another Clark masterpiece 'The Day Walk,' better known as 'Never Before.'
The Turn! Turn! Turn! album was a make it or break it for the Byrds; during this short time they rivalled the Beatles, and the massive success of the title track solidified their stance, if only for a brief time. But the other ten songs were what proved the group's talent, avoiding sophomore slumps and delivering some of the 60s greatest music. -- Bud SturguessTurn! Turn! Turn! Which Side Are You On? (Out Of Stock)Singer/songwriter/guitarist Ani DiFranco releases her eagerly awaited album Which Side Are You On? on the Grammy-winning artists own Righteous Babe Records. The release marks DiFrancos first studio album in more than three years. The collection features 11 new songs alongside a radically reworked rendition of the classic title song, famously popularized by the one and only Pete Seeger nearly five decades ago, but no less relevant today.
Backing DiFranco is a remarkably diverse line-up of stellar musicians, including members of her own crack touring band as well as such guest players as Ivan and Cyril Neville (of New Orleans first family of funk and R&B, The Neville Brothers), avant-saxophonist Skerik (Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Bonnie Raitt, The Meters), acclaimed singer/songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, guitarist Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee), and a host of New Orleans-based horn players known for their work in such outfits as Galactic, Bonerama, and The Rebirth Brass Band.
The newly recorded version of Which Side Are You On? is a funk-fueled epic, incorporating not just Anis band, but Pete Seeger himself on banjo and vocals alongside The Rivertown Kids, a Hudson Valley-based childrens chorus, and The Roots of Music Marching Crusaders, a brass band consisting of students from The Roots of Music, a music education program for at-risk middle-school students in New Orleans. DiFranco contributed her own straight-from-the headlines verses to the song and has used it to close her own live shows ever since. The album represents an extraordinary snapshot of DiFrancos own life as well her sense of where the country stands at this particular moment in time.1. Life Boat
