    Dragon Mouth

Following their split 7" with LA's Aeges released last October, Dust Moth now releases their debut EP, Dragon Mouth. A dense, layered genre-defying statement in six distinct movements. The band is comprised of current & former members of such influential bands as These Arms Are Snakes, Minus The Bear, Undertow, Aeges, and XVIII Individual Eyes. Taking the sound hinted at on their debut single "Toto", the band has upped the ante for themselves across the board. The songs are deceptively heavy while simultaneously lush with atmosphere, as Irene Barbaric's haunting croon floats effortlessly above it all. The album spans the emotional spectrum with some moments feeling unbearably morose and others feeling utterly triumphant. Few debut EPs sound this confident, this direct, or this special. Dragon Mouth was produced, recorded, and mixed by Matt Bayles, who is also a full time member of the band (keys). His resume is no secret, and includes such legendary bands as Isis, Mastodon, Botch, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and many more. It was then sent off to be mastered by Chris Common (Palms, Pelican, The Sword). The album will be released on March 25th via The Mylene Sheath.

The Wallowers have announced that their long-waited new studio album Glad All Over will be released on October 2, 2012 by Columbia Records. The band's new single, "Reboot The Mission," is a Clash-inspired
track with an unmistakable shufe backbeat, featuring Mick Jones on vocals and guitar. Recorded in Nashville, TN, at Dan Auerbach's (The Black Keys) Easy Eye Sound studio, the new album nds frontman Jakob Dylan joining original band members Greg Richling (bass) and Rami Jaffee (keyboards), with
Wallowers' longtime guitarist Stuart Mathis and drummer Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) rounding out the lineup. The album was
produced by Jay Joyce (Emmylou Harris, Cage the Elephant) and mixed by Rich Costey (Bruce Springsteen).

    Above

Pearl Jam + Alice In Chains + Screaming Trees = Mad Season. Includes 3 songs from mythical unfinished second album with NEWLY RECORDED vocals by Mark Lanegan.

Previously unreleased instrumental Interlude, Remixed version of John Lennon cover I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier, 180 Gram, 2LP gatefold

Think of the one-shot Seattle supergroup Mad Season as the grunge version of sober living. Guitarist Mike McCready, best known as the main six-string slinger in Pearl Jam, met bassist John Baker Saunders while in rehab, and the two paired with Screaming Trees' drummer Barrett Martin and Alice in Chains vocalist Layne Staley, partially in hopes of steering the singer onto the path of the straight and narrow. Ultimately, the plan didn't pan out, but for a brief while, the quartet -- who adopted the name Mad Season -- did have their moment of clarity, captured on the 1995 album Above. There was a single issued to modern rock radio -- River of Deceit -- but this record downplayed easy hooks and melody in favor of churning introspection and slow vamps that occasionally flirt with blues (the never-ending 12-bar Artificial Red, balanced by the distorto riffs of I Don't Everything), but usually conjure nothing more than the dank sludge of Seattle. Mad Season aren't quite mired in the darkest areas of grunge -- they're clever enough to let a saxophonist lend color to Long Gone Day -- but the lack of melodicism is a bit of a drag over the long haul, turning Above into a bit of heavy mood music. In a sense, it's the id of Seattle run rampant: all the bands involved, outside of Saunders' Walkabouts and Martin's Trees (who were nevertheless considerably more popular than Saunders' group), enjoyed commercial success in 1995, so they could have gotten away with anything and, in a sense, they did, as a major-label actually released this turgid bit of soul-baring heavy rock. McCready gets plenty of room for his elliptical guitar, the players has space to dig into their minor-key vamps, Staley essays his only set of completely original lyrics, but the whole thing feels kind of inert and indulgent, which may be appropriate for a band treating rock & roll as therapy.

    Uplift Mofo Party Plan

On 1987's The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Hole) helped the Chili Peppers incorporate more of a hard-rock approach to their already rich blend of funk and punk. This would be the best and unfortunately final album to feature the Kiedis/Flea/Slovak/Irons lineup as Slovak died from a drug overdose in 1988, and Irons exited soon after, turning up several years later as the drummer for Pearl Jam. Highlights include Fight Like a Brave, Funky Crime, Me and My Friends, Backwoods, Behind the Sun, No Chump Love Sucker and Special Secret Song Inside.

    In Deep Owl

In recent years, songwriter and Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd has been gradually moving away from the grunge rock aesthetic of his day job. (At least, as much as he can, given that the band are as synonymous with Seattle as its weather.) Spending the last four years stripping away the layers of grunge from his music, Shepherd turned introspective and acoustic. In fact, the songs which would form the basis of his upcoming debut record, In Deep Owl, were initially intended to feature only his voice and an acoustic guitar, but some longtime friends helped to subtly shift the sound and feel of the record.

Bringing on Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain to help fill in the gaps in the songs, Shepherd used their percussive presence to add a weight and resonance to the album. The result is a collection of tracks which retain their acoustic inclusivity while still feeling tied to the overcast dreariness of his hometown.

Having previously released the raw-edged rocker "Baron Robber," the second song released off the album is "Collide". Closer to Mark Lanegan than to Chris Cornell, the contemplative acoustic guitar and mandolin help to evoke a sense of folksy serenity. Forgoing percussion of any sort here, Shepherd emphasizes the rhythmic interplay between his voice and the minimalist stringed instrumentation. Born from a thousand campfire songs, "Collide" draws you into its inner sanctum and keeps you spellbound, firmly holding you in place without you ever realizing it.

    Divine Intervention

The rock & roll landscape changed dramatically between Seasons in the Abyss in 1990 and Divine Intervention in 1994. With the rise of alternative rock, many metal and hard rock bands that had been enormously successful at the dawn of the '90s were struggling by the middle of the decade. Instead of doing something calculated like emulating Nirvana or Pearl Jam -- or for that matter, Nine Inch Nails or Ministry -- Slayer wisely refused to sound like anyone but Slayer. Tom Araya and co. responded to the new environment simply by striving to be the heaviest metal band they possibly could. Less accessible than Seasons but equally riveting, Divine Intervention marked drummer Paul Bostaph's studio debut with the band. Bostaph proved to be a positive, energizing influence on Slayer, which sounds better than ever on such dark triumphs as Killing Fields, Serenity in Murder, and Circle of Beliefs. Characteristically grim and morbid, Slayer focus on the violently repressive nature of governments and the lengths to which they will go to wield power. And true to form, Slayer's music is as disturbing as their lyrics.

    The Nihilist

New Zealand rocker Liam Finn is gearing up for the release of his third full-length album, The Nihilist. Featuring 12 new tracks, this album finds Liam at his most refined and inventive in the studio, with other-worldly arrangements and blissfully catchy hooks. He has received Artist to Watch accolades from The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Billboard and Stereogum, performed on Letterman and Ferguson and has shared stages with the likes of Eddie Vedder, The Black Keys and Wilco. There's quite a groovy, irreverent swagger to it, Liam says of the record, but there's always this slight element of unhinged tension. It's a fitting description for the record as a whole, which balances moments of triumph and anxiety as he channels its countless characters' inner workings through his own musical prism to reveal his finest, most sophisticated work yet.

    Yes It's True

Yes, It's True is the first proper studio album by The Polyphonic Spree since 2007s The Fragile Army.

"The songs here are from many different periods in the last few years," frontman Tim DeLaughter explains. "This record feels like a collection of "songs" rather than a long listening piece which we've done previously in the Spree stylistically. It's kind of refreshing."

The album was recorded in stages and produced by The Speekers alongside Eric Drew Feldman (PJ Harvey, Captain Beefheart) with mixing done by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam, U2).

    Solo Piano (Out Of Stock)

With Solo Piano, Glass presents himself unplugged - no electronic keyboards or synthesizers, and no overdubs, either - just solo piano. Metamorphosis was written in 1988 and takes its name from a play based on Kafka's short story. Its second track, Metamorphosis Two, formed the basis of one of the main musical themes in the film The Hours. It is also the song that the American rock band Pearl Jam uses as their introduction music to concerts.

Mad Rush was written for the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit in New York City. Wichita Vortex Sutra is the result of a chance meeting between two long-time friends, Glass and poet Allen Ginsberg, in a bookstore in the East Village. 'We decided on the spot to do something together, reached for one of Allen's books, and chose the poem Wichita Vortex Sutra'.

Which Side Are You On? (Out Of Stock)

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Ani DiFranco releases her eagerly awaited album Which Side Are You On? on the Grammy-winning artists own Righteous Babe Records. The release marks DiFrancos first studio album in more than three years. The collection features 11 new songs alongside a radically reworked rendition of the classic title song, famously popularized by the one and only Pete Seeger nearly five decades ago, but no less relevant today.

Backing DiFranco is a remarkably diverse line-up of stellar musicians, including members of her own crack touring band as well as such guest players as Ivan and Cyril Neville (of New Orleans first family of funk and R&B, The Neville Brothers), avant-saxophonist Skerik (Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Bonnie Raitt, The Meters), acclaimed singer/songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, guitarist Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee), and a host of New Orleans-based horn players known for their work in such outfits as Galactic, Bonerama, and The Rebirth Brass Band.

The newly recorded version of Which Side Are You On? is a funk-fueled epic, incorporating not just Anis band, but Pete Seeger himself on banjo and vocals alongside The Rivertown Kids, a Hudson Valley-based childrens chorus, and The Roots of Music Marching Crusaders, a brass band consisting of students from The Roots of Music, a music education program for at-risk middle-school students in New Orleans. DiFranco contributed her own straight-from-the headlines verses to the song and has used it to close her own live shows ever since. The album represents an extraordinary snapshot of DiFrancos own life as well her sense of where the country stands at this particular moment in time.
