Tea For The Tillerman (200g)Ranked 206/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
When word got out that we were beginning a pressing plant, customers began to call with questions. And the most common and full-of-anticipation question was inevitably: What will be the first title that you press? Well, we couldn't possibly imagine hitting a bigger home run than to open Quality Record Pressings (QRP) with one of the all-time most classic audiophile records, Cat Stevens' Tea for the Tillerman from 1970.
There are so many things perfect about this release. First and foremost, it's a masterpiece of a record. It's that rare record that couples breathtaking sound with hit after hit after hit. In fact, to list the hits would be to list the entire song list. We couldn't pick a better vehicle for which to show off what we're so confident will be the highest quality records ever pressed.
But here's something else that's cool: We scored the absolute original analog masters, and the tapes were in impeccable condition. It took an unbelievable amount of digging and research - and luck - to get this project done to the standards of Analogue Productions. But, wow, was it ever worth it! The tapes were last used in December 1999 when Ted Jensen at Sterling, along with producer Paul Samwell-Smith, remastered the Cat Stevens catalog for CD.
In 1970, Lee Hulko at Sterling Sound cut Tea For The Tillerman for A&M Records in the U.S. and Island Records in the UK using a Telefunken M10 tape machine and a Neumann VMS 66 lathe with a Neumann SX68 cutterhead. Hulko started Sterling in 1968 and was its original mastering engineer. He's considered among the first engineers to advance mastering from just transferring music from tape to lacquer to an art where attention is paid to all the details that result in better sound. We actually found Hulko's original mastering notes from more than 40 years ago. It's incredible, but Sterling still has all of their notes filed away.
So, it was originally cut at Sterling - as were all of the early original Cat Stevens albums - and the tapes were last used at Sterling. How appropriate then that we should go back to Sterling for this monumental reissue. Using the original tapes, George Marino handled the mastering this time. He used an Ampex ATR-102 tape machine, another significant point of interest. While Ampex has long been revered for their sound, they had never made a preview version so that a mastering engineer could cut a lacquer from an Ampex machine. Mike Spitz at ATR Services made a unique preview modification for Sterling so that they could cut this record using an Ampex. Marino then used a Neumann VMS 80 lathe with a Neumann SX 74 cutterhead.
I think we've gotten something quite a bit better than what was originally issued, Marino says. I think this version is much more representative of what was on the tape. And that's not a criticism of what was originally done.
Marino points out that since the original issue, there have been advancements in cutting lathe technology that make the improvements of this reissue possible.
You didn't have the same number of options that you have in the new Neumann electronics, Marino says. With the new one, they give you more variations to work with. Let's say there's a nice kind of present sounding acoustic guitar on the left channel and then all of the sudden there's a drum peak with cymbal crashes and stuff and that stuff happens to be on the left channel. Being the vocal is down the center, you can drive the high frequency limiter from the right channel. So you can set a threshold on the right channel and grab the vocal without wiping out some of the musical peaks on the left channel. This is what I talk about when I say that we have technical advantages that they didn't have.
Marino also chose to use a wide-track stereo head for this project, which he said allows for better signal-to-noise than the normal stereo head.
And he also decided against using tube electronics, as would have been used originally, because he says that while the tubes allowed for more warmth, they also made the sound duller.
You wind up wanting to put a little top-end EQ or something to get a little something back (when using tubes), Marino explains of his decision.
Marino says that he is very pleased with the results.
A great record. A classic, he says. And those tapes were in excellent, excellent condition. Musically, I think we've got something that sounds richer and more natural. It sounds more correct. I had to do very, very little to the tape regarding EQ processing or anything.
To package this reissue, we've decided to do a facsimile of the original British Island gatefold jacket rather than the non-gatefold U.S. version. This British jacket also has a textured paper stock on the inside and is glossy on the outside. Additionally, we're using the original pink Island label.
So there you have it. Quality Record Pressings is off and pressing in a big, big way! Finally, we're ready to unveil the innovations in record pressing that we've been working on for more than a year. Among those innovations are the installations of microprocessors on the presses so that all of the presses functions are performed with absolute precision. For example, we've developed a dye with an imbedded temperature sensor that we can use to cycle the presses. Rather than having the presses close and open based on time - as it's been to date - these presses will close and open based on temperature, the far more accurate indicator of when the record is ready. We also have a plating department in Quality Record Pressings, run by the best plating man in the business, Gary Salstrom.
Still to come from Analogue Productions pressed at Quality Record Pressings will be the Cat Stevens classics Teaser and the Firecat and Catch Bull at Four.
Tea For The Tillerman is one of Cat Stevens' finest albums and a gem in the crown of early 1970s singer/songwriterdom. Stevens manages to have his cake and eat it too, simultaneously achieving pop accessibility and artistic relevance. The feel is decidedly gentle and spare. Apart from the occasional string section, Stevens is accompanied only by a three-piece band as he sings his introspective lyrics with appreciable favor.1. Where Do The Children Play?

Fire And WaterFree was one of the British bands that pioneered Hard Rock. Despite a short life span, they were a huge influence bands such as Bad Company and Foreigner, thanks to their style of stripped-down British Blues.
Their follow up to Free, Fire And Water, peaked at #17 in the album charts, carried by the classic Rock anthem All Right Now - which peaked at #4 in Billboard's Hot 100 in 1970. Paul Kossoff's guitar playing and Paul Rodger's incredible voice made Free one of the best bands around. Their revered legacy is justified with Music On Vinyl's 180 gram audiophile treatment.1. Pure McCartney (Box Set)Pure McCartney, a new compilation of his solo, Wings and Fireman work, celebrates that fact, showcasing 67 highlights from one of the most-revered catalogues in music - from 'McCartney' in 1970, his debut solo album, right through to 'Hope For The Future', his 2014 track taken from 'Destiny', the most-anticipated video game of the last decade. Not only is 'Pure McCartney' a monumental mix tape of some of popular music's most memorable moments from 1970 to the present day, it also features curios for the super fans and some of Paul's personal favourites-all handpicked by the man himself.
Me and my team came up with the idea of putting together a collection of my recordings with nothing else in mind other than having something fun to listen to, Paul says of this project.
Maybe it's to be enjoyed on a long car journey or an evening at home or at a party with friends? So we got our heads together and came up with these diverse playlists from various periods of my long and winding career."
As a songwriter Paul has never stood still, dipping his toe in countless genres and styles. 'Pure McCartney' is testament to that fact. From the song writing master class of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and adventurous, three-songs-in-one of 'Band On The Run' to the irresistible groove of 'Say Say Say' and ahead-of-its-time electronica of 'Temporary Secretary', described by NME when compiling a list of the greatest ever songs as not so much ahead of its time, but out of it altogether", 'Pure McCartney' charts the unstoppable adventures of McCartney's unique and eclectic song writing talents and shines a light on his post-Beatles artistic achievements.
The word 'career' is a bit misleading because to me it has been more like a musical adventure than a proper job, says Paul, reflecting on the 'Pure McCartney' tracklisting. It pleases me, and often amazes me, that I've been involved in the writing and recording of so many songs, each of them so different from the others.
Paul's unparalleled career has seen his music break global chart records, win countless awards, fill stadiums around the world and become the soundtrack to millions of people's lives across generations.LP 1

Instant ReplayThe Monkees have been one of the world's most enduring rock and pop acts of all time. Since their beginnings in 1966, their television show, multiplatinum albums, hit singles and concert tours truly made The Monkees one of the most colossal stories in the music business. In 1969, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz went back to the studio as a trio this time and recorded the classic Instant Replay album. Noted for their hit single Tear Drop City, this masterwork also found The Monkees reuniting with the production team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart for several of the tracks as well as previous team Monkees writers like Carole King and Neil Sedaka, and highly touted producers like Bones Howe (The Association/Tom Waits) and Shorty Rogers and resulted in some of the finest collaborations ever with this superstar act. Instant Replay also offered the first look at Michael Nesmith's experimental and groundbreaking recording sessions in Nashville as well as solid compositions from all three Monkees.
Opening up with the pop rocker Through The Looking Glass, Micky Dolenz is on top of his game vocally with a brilliant background of horns, Bobby Hart on piano and guitar work by legends Keith Allison (Paul Revere & The Raiders) and Gerry McGee (The Ventures/John Mayall). A major fan favorite, this classic was performed at many of the reunion concerts over the years. The late great Davy Jones belts out another Boyce and Hart classic with the haunting ballad Don't Listen To Linda. The tune truly resonated with the fans back then and continues to be one of the more appreciated classics in his long list of time tested Monkees favorites. Carole King and Gerry Goffin's I Won't Be The Same Without Her features a strong vocal performance by Michael Nesmith and the stunning guitar work of both Monkees' Peter Tork and Glen Campbell. A real summer time feeling song, this track would be a nice bridge to Micky Dolenz's orchestral masterpiece Just A Game.
It is no secret that Nesmith was a fan of country music, but also lauded as one of the first pioneers of the country rock genre, not only with his contributions to the earlier Monkees' recordings as far back as Papa Gene's Blues, even for other noted artists like Linda Ronstadt for whom he penned her first smash single Different Drum. For the Instant Replay album, Nesmith ventured to Nashville's RCA Studios and cut Don't Wait For Me, the first released tune from his now famous Nashville sessions. With the fusion of country studio players and the voice and guitar of Michael Nesmith, The Monkees again were on the forefront of this new genre and would continue with this groundbreaking sound ever more so into future classics like The Monkees Present.
As the '60s would come to a close, Davy Jones would also contribute his major impact on the generation with his truly hip and psychedelic masterpiece You And I. Noted for its hard rock opening to side two, the track also features the stunning lead guitar textures of Neil Young who recently departed with The Buffalo Springfield. More favorites like Nesmith's While I Cry is one of the artist's finest compositions of the era. With Mike's beautiful acoustic guitar work and help from friends like Harry Nilsson, this ballad would truly become one of the more enduring songs from this 1969 classic Monkees album.
Neil Sedaka and Carol Bayer Sager contribute one of the classiest Monkees ballads ever with The Girl I Left Behind Me. Once again, the late great Davy Jones provides a superstar vocal second to none, with a soulful orchestra fill and band setting featuring the production and skillful piano work of Neil Sedaka, while Micky Dolenz would close out the album with his classic Shorty Blackwell. The whimsical tale of Micky's cat and a nod to his friends The Beatles' A Day In The Life, Shorty Blackwell would take almost a year to record and feature a bevy of the original wrecking crew of Hollywood musicians like drummer Jim Gordon (Eric Clapton/Traffic), Tommy Tedesco on guitar and even his sister Coco Dolenz on vocals. This track along with the other eleven tunes make this one of the more enduring and loved albums in the superior catalog of Monkees classics.
Friday Music is once again very honored to announce the continuation of The Monkees Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series with the re-release of their 1969 masterwork Instant Replay. Jeff Beck is truly a worldwide gift to rock music and guitar enthusiasts everywhere. There will never be another Jeff
Beck, a guitar genius who has enthralled generations of aspiring musicians and music lovers with the many fine recordings
he has made for the past five decades.
Celebrating five decades in the music business, this English native initially captivated millions of kids in the 60's with
his first recordings with The Yardbirds. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar licks and dynamic presence on the
stage. As individual members of the band started solo projects, Jeff Beck began the rudiments of The Jeff Beck Group with
his friends Jimmy Page, Nicky Hopkins, Keith Moon and John Paul Jones and threw down the mega instrumental Beck's
Bolero. This track along new tracks recorded at Abbey Road with Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Nicky Hopkins and Mick Waller
would serve up his very first solo smash album Truth.
Kicking things off with the hard hitting Shapes of Things, this Yardbirds' revisit takes on a whole new approach with
the soulful vocals of Rod Stewart paired with the guitar antics of Jeff Beck. A match made in heaven, these two pioneers of
the British blues scene carry on with more masterful workouts on such fare as their hits Rock My Plimsoul, Let Me Love You
and their inspiring tour de force Blues De Luxe. Willie Dixon's I Ain't Superstitious and You Shook Me, plus their brilliant Tim
Rose cover of Morning Dew along with the brilliance of Beck's Bolero made Truth the revered masterpiece that it still is today.
Noted for his stellar guitar work, pretty much introducing new ways of using technique, distortion and effects to a
whole new generation of guitar players, Jeff Beck's Truth is truly a primer for a ton of rock and blues artists.
Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Jeff Beck, his arsenal of fine recordings already on our label.

Father of Folk Blues (Awaiting Repress)This was the first such presentation of a Delta blues musician done by Columbia, which seemed like a pretty hip label at the time, since they had both Bob Dylan and Paul Revere and the Raiders. The man's picture on the front is mesmerizing, in a word; the white shirt, black string tie, and silver steel guitar just adding to the excitement. Perhaps this album picture was the first glimpse many young listeners had of such a style of guitar. It was decades before Dire Straits appropriated the image. Revisionist critical thinking has it that the later recordings by Son House can't match the music created during his '30s sessions for Paramount. Here, of course, we have the music as sports syndrome, an area where the elderly are always going to fail in someone's eyes. So much of music enjoyment, however, is a subjective reaction that so often involves many other factors, among them time and place. The sound of the metal slide quietly hovering over the strings can bring to mind only one thing in the mind of a westerner: an angry rattlesnake. And the way many listeners' jaws dropped upon hearing music such as this for the first time may not be quite as intense as a hiker's facial expression upon encountering such a creature, but it is close enough. There is a second blues legend appearing here as well. Guitarist and harmonica player Al Wilson was a founding member of Canned Heat, and a musician so good at what he did that he became a sterling example of the possibility that young white blues fans could actually learn to play this music really well, with intensity.

pulp mill fumes smelled like a breath of fresh air, old buildings were
being leveled in order to revitalize a dying downtown, forests and
farmlands were giving way to industrial parks and shopping malls, a
cultural event was wrestling at the Tacoma Dome, and Girl Trouble
could be found practicing with their plywood speaker cabinets and a
drum set purchased for $70 from the Sears surplus store in a shed
beside Bon and Kahuna's parent's house, where they still practice
This reissue of Girl Trouble's debut album, Hit It Or Quit It [KLP229],
includes eleven original songs, one Northwest classic (Steppin'
Out by Paul Revere & The Raiders), and two bonus tracks. To keep
the energy level up and the over-production level down, these songs
were recorded live with only an occasional added guitar or vocal
track. With the minimal pounding of Bon's drums, the steady cool of
Dale on bass, the buzzsaw scream from Kahuna's Ouija guitar, and
the rabid rock 'n' roll stylings of K.P. Kendall, Girl Trouble continues
playing throughout the Northwest, 30-plus years on.

Under Construction (Pre-Order)Attention B-girls and boys: Missy Elliott is officially over it. Like her homegirl Mary J. Blige, the rap diva declares, no more drama. Time to get back to the essence. To that end, Under Construction bubbles over with a combination of ridiculously slamming beats and clever old-school references--not to mention a slew of guest stars. Based on the rhyme schematic from UTFO's Roxanne Roxanne and featuring Ms. Jade's tight-laced drawl, Funky Fresh Dressed draws on several classics, including the Beasties' Paul Revere. Missy croons and Jay-Z namedrops his way through the loose-limbed Back in the Day. Ludacris injects some new jack Southern flavor into the sinuous anti-hater's anthem, Gossip Folks. Work It features a catchy chorus and an absolutely insane Timbaland track.
As is to be expected, Aaliyah's presence looms large over the proceedings, especially on the classic Misdemeanor-style hip-hop and R&B hybrid, Nothing out There for Me. Missy's rap adlibs play second fiddle to the song's lush vocals, as BeyoncÉ fills the diva role previously occupied by the late, great Aaliyah. -Rebecca Levine1. Intro

Magical DirtMagical Dirt is RADIO MOSCOW's fourth studio album. The band's fountainhead Parker Griggs, along with partners-in-crime Anthony Meier (bass) and Paul Marrone (drums), have cultivated yet another blues-rock masterpiece that crossbreeds late '60s psych-rock and face-melting guitar histrionics with the foundation-crumbling rhythms from early '70s hard-rock, and even includes a couple of harrowing tracks built from the bedrock of rural Delta blues. But more than merely digging up fossils from rock's revered past, Griggs & Co. manage to translate the myths of rock-n-roll's golden age into modern day truths for a new, younger generation.1. IndigosIndigos is a seminal Jazz album by big band superstar Duke Ellington, originally released in 1958. Ellington chose a set of easy listening ballads to be performed by his ace Big Band, putting less emphasis on the uptempo and danceable Swing the group was revered for.
Behind Ellington on piano, you'll hear a marvelous band including Paul Gonsalves on tenor sax, Shorty Baker on trumpet, Ray Nance on violin, Johnny Hodges on alto sax and Harry Carney on baritone sax, all being put in the solo spotlight on every song of this record.

Conversations (Awaiting Repress)Stanton Moore calls his latest album Conversations both a return to my roots and a reinvention. The New Orleans drummer, who is by all counts regarded as one of the great funk musicians of all time, has delivered his first jazz trio recording. It's a return to Moore's roots because he finally gets the opportunity to record with pianist David Torkanowsky and bassist James Singleton whom he came up playing alongside on the New Orleans' club circuit. It's a reinvention because after years of delivering huge grooves and unrelenting funk at some of the worlds more revered rock clubs and festivals, Moore is stepping back to focus on the subtlety of swing and improvisation, while presenting the music via intimate settings like that of his trio's home-base Snug Harbor.
As for the album's title, one listen and it's clear. There's a vigorous musical dialogue happening among the three musicians, as they tell stories, explore ideas and trade thoughts on tracks like Lauren Z, Big Greaze and the Herbie Hancock classic Driftin'. The big easy is always close at hand with the majority of the material coming from the New Orleans composers, including James Black (Magnolia Triangle and In The Keyhole), Steve Masakowski (The Chase) and Paul Barbarin (Paul Barbarin's Second Line).
With Conversations, Stanton Moore shines a light on a side of his musical personality that will be new to fans, but every bit as compelling as the substantial body of work he's already established over the course of his 20-year career.1. Lauren Z

The Boy Next Door (Pure Pleasure)Ms Kent's album, The Boy Next Door, is a heartfelt and reverent tribute to her musical heroes, which include legendary crooners Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, octogenarian jazz master Dave Brubeck and Manhattan cabaret doyen Bobby Short. The stylish jazz chanteuse's repertoire also finds her working outside the Great American Songbook for the first time, with contributions from latter-day pop songwriters Burt Bacharach, Paul Simon and Carole King. Ms Kent puts her own indelible stamp on each number as she weaves her magic on a delectable collection of pop-jazz standards that encompass infatuation, seduction, love, loss and reminiscence.
Ms Kent receives impeccable support from her sleek, urbane jazz quintet, whose rhythmic fluency is further enhanced by the tasteful, literate arrangements. Newton and Tomlinson, both accomplished musicians in their own right, also display hitherto unknown musical talents as they join Curtis Schwartz to provide tongue-in-cheek backing vocals for Ms Kent's deliciously bouncy rendition of Ooh-Shoo-Be-Doo-Bee.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. The Best Is Yet To Come

Between The DitchesRoaring out of the southern Indiana foothills comes Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band playing a brand of Americana and Blues that stands alone. Delta blues and hillbilly fervor combine with musical acuity sharp as razor wire, this trio is a force to be reckoned with. Their new album Between The Ditches is a chronicle of this lifestyle. Their fifth album celebrates the growl of a good truck engine, the fiercest passion for their country home and the importance of family.
The uncanny ability to breathe new life into old forms of music gives the Big Damn Band a pedigree many Americana acts would kill for and an ironclad work ethic keeps them on the road playing for the people with hurricane force. Locked in with an audience, the band create their own community and welcome the crowd into it, transporting them away from their troubles to joyous release, the way great musicians have done for centuries. The Rev. J. Peyton, his wife Breezy and distant cousin Aaron "Cuz" Persinger are a living breathing embodiment of the traditions and hard work ethic native to their Brown County, Indiana home.
With a reputation for their incendiary live shows well established, The Big Damn Band set out to make the album that would finally capture the same heat. Recorded at White Arc Studio in Bloomington, Indiana, the album was produced by The Rev. Peyton and Paul Mahern (John Mellencamp, Iggy Pop) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Dr. John, Shins). For previous albums, the band had recorded live, straight through in the same mode as a live show. Between The Ditches came together more slowly, with care. "We approached it saying we were going to make a record this time, not just a recording," explained the Rev. He used a different guitar set up on almost every track, employing two '30s National guitars, a cigar box guitar, a custom shop Gibson flattop 1929 L2 and an Airline map electric guitar. The primary amps are custom Weber amps made by Weber speakers, both are one of a kind.
Between The Ditches features a new level of craftsmanship in both recording technique and songwriting. The guitar playing alone should put the Rev. in the same class with his much revered idols. The songwriting boasts an added maturity and runs the gamut in subject matter from the barn burning, tongue in cheek, "Shut the Screen," (where "It's too dang hot and the bugs are too dang mean") to the evils of strip mining, an issue close to the hearts of this Indiana band in, "Don't Grind It Down." There seems to be a theme expressed throughout the album and stated clearly in their first single "Devils Look Like Angels": "Devil don't live down in hell, the devil's right here doing very well."1. No Pier PressureNew Album Features Collaborations with Beach Boys Bandmates, Kacey Musgraves, fun.'s Nate Ruess, She & Him's Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, Peter Hollens, and Capital Cities' Sebu Simonian
He is one of popular music's most deeply revered figures, a legendary writer, producer, arranger and performer of some of the most cherished music in pop music history. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to call Brian Wilson one of the most gifted and influential composers of the past 50 years. For the release of his 11th solo studio album, titled No Pier Pressure, Wilson has returned to Capitol Records, his original label home with The Beach Boys.
For the No Pier Pressure sessions, Brian Wilson reunited with longtime collaborator Joe Thomas, with whom he co-produced The Beach Boys' No. 3 Billboard album That's Why God Made The Radio for the iconic band's 50th anniversary reunion in 2012. In addition, Wilson was joined at Hollywood's Ocean Way Studios by talented musicians he personally invited to record with him, including his former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine, David Marks and Blondie Chaplin, as well as Kacey Musgraves, fun.'s Nate Ruess, She & Him's Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, Peter Hollens, Capital Cities' Sebu Simonian, and trumpet master Mark Isham. Wilson has also brought in session all-stars Don Was, Jim Keltner, Dean Parks, and Kenny Aronoff. Members of Wilson's longtime touring band, including Scott Bennett, Paul Mertens, Darian Sahanaja, and Probyn Gregory also participated in the sessions, along with Matt Jardine, son of Al Jardine, and former bandmate Jeffrey Foskett.
Wilson and Thomas began collaborating on the new songs during The Beach Boys' whirlwind 50th anniversary activities throughout 2012, a banner year for the band which also included a GRAMMY® Award win for Brian for The Beach Boys' long-awaited SMiLE Sessions release. He told family, friends, and journalists around the world that he looked forward to returning to the studio when he got back home to California.
Always most inspired when creativity is given time and space to freely flow, Wilson initially envisioned the sessions for his new album with The Beach Boys in mind, but that was not to be. Wanting to find the right voices to complete his vision, Wilson saw an opportunity to finally become hip with his kids and recruited some amazing young vocalists who have been inspired by his music to do the job.
Throughout his iconic career, Wilson has brought ingenious vision to his own compositions, as well as to those for which he has collaborated, weaving a lush, vibrant tapestry of intricately nuanced vocal harmonies and instrumental arrangements for himself, his bandmates and others. For more than 50 years, fans have marveled at the sheer beauty of the music that springs forth from Wilson's imagination into glorious song.
Camped out at Ocean Way, Wilson took a fluid, woodshedding approach to the recording process, deftly tailoring the vocal and instrumental parts and arrangements to each participant. Wilson worked to hone the arrangements, often assembling pieces from various takes, a signature style of recording he has enjoyed since his earliest sessions with The Beach Boys. In fact, several of the songs were written during the recording process.
Brian Wilson began his career as a teenaged founding member of The Beach Boys, who signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin' Safari, that same year. The band's initial surf-rock focus was soon broadened to include other themes, and 1966's Pet Sounds is universally hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. Wilson's innovative vocal and instrumental arrangements for major hits including "I Get Around," "California Girls," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," and the No. 1 smash "Good Vibrations" made The Beach Boys America's preeminent band of the 1960s.
Brian Wilson has also achieved great solo success with 10 of his own albums released to date, including his acclaimed 2004 completion of an album he first began recording in the '60s, Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE, which reached Billboard's Top 20 and earned him his first GRAMMY® Award for a recording. Wilson won his second GRAMMY Award® for producing The Beach Boys' acclaimed 2011 release, The SMiLE Sessions. Wilson has also performed major, sold-out SMiLE and Pet Sounds tours in recent years with his own band. Wilson is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, and a UK Music Hall of Fame inductee. As a member of The Beach Boys, Wilson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and honored with The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY® Award in 2001.LP 1

Rough And ReadyJeff Beck is truly a worldwide gift to rock music and guitar enthusiasts everywhere. There will never be another Jeff Beck, a guitar genius who has enthralled generations of aspiring musicians and music lovers with the many fine recordings he has made for the past five decades.
Celebrating five decades in the music business, this English native initially captivated millions of kids in the 60's with his first recordings with The Yardbirds. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar licks and dynamic presence on the stage. As Jeff moved on and started a stunning solo career with his first masterpiece Truth (FRM-26413), a few years later The Jeff Beck Group emerged with his friends Cozy Powell (drums), Bob Tench (vocals), Max Middleton (keyboards) and Clive Chaman (bass) recording the monumental supergroup LP Rough And Ready.
The 1971 smash LP kicks things off with the hard rocker Got the Feeling. This radio and fan favorite graced the air- waves on the ever growing FM radio format and helped bolster even further the rest of the Rough And Ready album with follow up hits like the soulful tour de force of Situation featuring a great vocal from future Humble Pie crooner Bob Tench and a stellar keyboard workout from Max Middleton.
More solid numbers from the band include the great medley of New Ways/Train Train, the power ballad rocker Jody, plus the prog-rock champion Max's Tune. All in all, making Beck's third solo effort one of his most revered in his long lasting and huge catalog of classic recordings.
Noted for his stellar guitar work, pretty much introducing new ways of using technique, distortion and effects to a whole new generation of guitar players, Jeff Beck's Rough And Ready is truly a primer for a ton of rock and blues artists.
Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Jeff Beck, his arsenal of fine recordings already on our label. That is why we are so very proud to announce another fine installment in The Jeff Beck/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his third legendary masterpiece Rough And Ready.
