    Elvis

Mastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the Original RCA Records Tapes

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the great depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early '50s, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the career of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.

Elvis had the amazing ability to sing both R&B and country simultaneously. This with the persona and choreography of a Hollywood movie star on stage, the young Elvis Presley was soon touring, and over the year achieved a number of regional hit singles, electrifying audiences into frenzies wherever he performed.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched 'The King Of Rock And Roll' trademark to his name. In 1956 after a chart topping debut LP, his second smash #1 album simply called Elvis truly proved once again that his career was unlike any other in music history.

Filled with more energy than a fireball, the Elvis album took off with the Little Richard classic rocker Rip It Up. Another chart topping single followed with the much revered Love Me, a song which he would perform well into the '70s. The album also featured more smash hits like the Otis Blackwell/Elvis Presley rocker Paralyzed, a blues belter Arthur Crudup revisit with Elvis interpretation of So Glad Youre Mine, and Red Foleys tender ballad about mans best friend Old Shep. In total, the album showcases twelve important Elvis Presley recordings which have truly stood the test of time.

In honor of the Man, the Music, the Legend, the 'King Of Rock And Roll', Friday Music is very proud and honored to announce the first time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl release of the RCA Victor classic Elvis by Elvis Presley. As a first installment in their exciting Elvis Presley 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series, they are very pleased to present this masterwork in all its high fidelity glory.

For this exclusive presentation, Friday Music is also including the first time ever gatefold artwork which includes the groundbreaking original LP cover elements as well as more rare visuals from this historic Elvis era. The Band Perry

Daddy rocked us to sleep with the Rolling Stones; Mama woke us up with Loretta Lynn. So we get it honest. - Kimberly Perry

Inheriting a cross-pollinated love of country and rock & roll from their parents, The Band Perry - siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil Perry - say that they bleed the bright red blood of American music. The three have always felt the drive to perform and create music, sweating out the summers in Mobile, Alabama playing in any dusty roadhouse or church that would have them. Kimberly strapped on her first Gibson - and fronted her first high school band - at age 15, employing Reid, then 10, and Neil, only 8, as her roadies. Changing guitar strings and polishing cymbals for their big sister lost its charm after awhile, so the brothers formed their own band, opening for Kimberly's band.

My bass and I've been attached at the hip since I was 10 years old, says Reid. While most of my friends were playing little league, I was sitting in my room learning Rolling Stones' and Beatles' bass lines. It's really all I've ever known. Even as the three worked in different bands, the siblings would spend nights at home playing together: I remember sitting out on our front porch singing old Hank Williams and Bobbie Gentry songs in three-part harmony, hoping to channel the spirits of old country through musical sÉance while fighting off the southern Alabama mosquitoes, says Kimberly. We always knew we'd take the stage together - all we were waiting on was the right moment. That moment came in July of 2005, when - after years of writing together - the siblings decided to join forces as one band. The Band Perry was then invited by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company to open all of the dates on their New Faces Of Country Tour that year.

In the summer of 2008, after spending a few years on the road honing their sound, TBP met longtime Garth Brooks manager Bob Doyle. Partnering with Bob and Josh Pegram, The Band Perry spent the fall and winter of 2008 writing in Nashville and collecting songs for their first country recording session.

The three of us bring different strengths into the writing room, Neil points out. Kimberly carries in a bag of melodies and lyrics, Reid always has some really great musical ideas in his back pocket, and I bring in a sense of humor and some thread that ties it all together.

The new recordings caught the ears of Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen, the CEO and President of Republic Nashville, signing to the new label in the summer of 2009.

When talking about The Band Perry, each member of the trio stresses how much family figures into the mix: Reid, Neil and I share genes and a musical pedigree, Kimberly explains. We read the same classics and cook from the same recipes. With all of our likenesses though, I believe it's our distinctions that stir up the magic when we create. When the three of us sit down to write songs together, we pull from all of our individual perspectives and happenstances to create the most interesting song concoctions.

There's a tightness between the three of us that goes way beyond even best friends, Neil adds. Family vocal harmonies can't be fabricated. And, besides - the three of us know that through the thick and thin of life and the music business, we're watching after each other.

Blood runs thick. The music business can be hard, but the three of us are committed not only to our lives in music, but to living them together, Reid says. I think the security of knowing that about each other allows us to be uninhibited when we create. It's a democracy. It's a safe haven.

We've walked a long way to find your ears, Kimberly Perry finishes with a grin. So play us long and play us loud. The Band Perry is here, and we just have so darn much to say.

    Mississippi Hill Country Blues

Fans of this Mississippi hill country blues patriarch will enjoy this time capsule recorded in 1982 and 1967. It's Burnside in the raw, playing solo on acoustic guitar as he did for his neighbors for most of his early career--when farming was still his profession. Burnside reprised Miss Maybelle, Mellow Peaches, Poor Boy, Jumper on the Line, and others among these songs on his more recent albums for Fat Possum Records, but these early versions capture his driving blend of one-chord rhythm with lightning decorations of slide and melody already fully developed.

If anything, Burnside's guitar playing has slowed over the years, but it's taken on gravity as it's grown more spare, just as his voice--high and limber here--has added character with the imperfections of age. Burnside is also a more idiosyncratic musician now. Nonetheless, it's a pleasure to hear him doing numbers like Bad Luck and Trouble nearly 20 years ago, fusing the influences of John Lee Hooker and Fred McDowell into the potent style that's made him one of today's premier practitioners of old-time rural blues. -Ted Drozdowski

    Metamodern Sounds In Country Music

" he understands that good hooks hang on great rhythms
and every sob story requires an uppercut punch line."-The Washington Post

    " humbly fantastic."-SPIN

"...this is GOOD COUNTRY something I think any music lover
(country or not) can appreciate."-My Old Kentucky Blog

Sturgill Simpson isn't one to rest on his laurels, which is why, less than a year after the release of his critically acclaimed debut,
High Top Mountain, the singer-songwriter is coming out with his captivating and wholly unique sophomore album, Metamodern
Sounds in Country Music. The album title - an allusion to Ray Charles' groundbreaking 1962 record, Modern Sounds in Country and
Western Music -- hints at the psychedelic sounds found within, a departure from Simpson's first album, which drew comparisons
to the music of Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. "I think that there is a lot of room in country music for progression and sonic
oscillation, which is what I wanted to explore." Where some artists find inspiration from other music, Simpson found his in books,
devouring religious texts both ancient and modern, recent studies about discoveries in quantum physics and string theory, and
publications by Carl Sagan and Terence McKenna. He also drew upon French filmmaker Gaspar Noe's experimental drama Enter the
Void as he created murky, multi-textured soundscapes that incorporate elements of classic country, bluegrass, rock, and even a bit
of electronica, a genre that Simpson admits he has a "slight fetish" for.

Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music

Less modern for its country-R&B blend (Elvis Presley and company did it in 1955) and lushly produced C&W tone (the Nashville sound cropped up in the late '50s) than for its place as a high-profile crossover hit, Modern Sounds in Country and Western fit right in with Ray Charles' expansive musical ways while on the Atlantic label in the '50s. In need of even more room to explore, Charles signed with ABC Paramount and eventually took full advantage of his contract's full artistic freedom clause with this collection of revamped country classics.

Covering a period from 1939 to the early '60s, the 12 tracks here touch on old-timey fare (Floyd Tillman's It Makes No Difference to Me Now), honky tonk (three Hank Williams songs), and early countrypolitan (Don Gibson's I Can't Stop Loving You). Along with a Top Ten go at Eddy Arnold's You Don't Know Me, the Gibson cover helped the album remain at the top of the pop charts for nearly three months and brought Charles international fame. Above a mix of swinging big band charts by Gerald Wilson and strings and choir backdrops from Marty Paich, Charles' intones the sleepy-blue nuances of country crooners while still giving the songs a needed kick with his gospel outbursts. No pedal steel or fiddles here, just a fine store of inimitable interpretations.

Live At The Old Quarter, Houston Texas

Culled from Townes Van Zandt's years of independently released country-folk records, this austere collection of songs here serves, in effect, as a greatest-hits package. Van Zandt's dry, narrative wit was the source of influence for such singer-songwriters as Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson, and one would be hard-pressed to find a more simple, prettier love song than If I Needed You (a hit for Emmylou Harris) or a more riveting ballad than Kathleen, both sung with focused precision. Brand New Companion shows off Van Zandt's blues-picking expertise, Talking Thunderbird Blues demonstrates his wit and one of his best creations, For the Sake of the Song shows off his poetic strength. A wonderful place to start your Townes Van Zandt fascination. This version of Live At The Old Quarter, Houston Texas comes courtesy of the Townes Van Zandt reissue series that Fat Posssum is undertaking in conjuction with the Van Zandt estate.

Sonny Smith copes with a painful separation from his wife on this extremely personal country album. Recorded directly to tape in a musty basement smelling of beer and tobacco, Longtime Companion explores love and heartache along the vein of Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Johnny Cash.

Sonny dives into his self-described "sea of darkness" with a wide range of intimate lyrics, pedal steel, and acoustic guitars. After just one listen, it's clear no other genre could so eloquently frame Sonny's heartbreaking internal monologue more than the old time country music he grew up with. 180g gold vinyl LP.

    Too Far To Care

    Pressed On 180-Gram Audiophile Vinyl

    Includes Insert

The Old 97's are an alternative country/rock band from Dallas, Texas formed in 1993.

They are recognized as pioneers of the alt-country movement during the mid to late 90s along with bands such as Uncle Tupelo, Drive-By Truckers, Whiskeytown, The Jayhawks, and The Bottle Rockets.

Too Far To Care is the third studio album by the band, originally released in 1997. The album's title comes from the song Streets of Where I'm From.

Lyrically the band's constant touring is evident in songs like Barrier Reef (with references to Chicago), Broadway (in New York City), and Niteclub (inspired, according to the band, by clubs in Cleveland, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan).

Four Leaf Clover was originally recorded on Hitchhike To Rhome, the first Old 97's album. Rhett (vocals/guitar) was searching for a duet to record with friend Exene Cervenka and had started work on an old-fashioned duet that I thought we might sing, but Exene proclaimed it 'too pretty'. That song later became Fireflies. Instead, Exene sang on Four Leaf Clover, replacing the lyric nothing to impress you with nothing to attract you which Rhett found much sexier.

Chris Shiflett And The Dead Peasants

Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants is a new project from Shiflett, already known as the lead guitarist for Foo Fighters and the frontman for Jackson United. Steeped in his love for classic country artists (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings), rockabilly (Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran), and deep-rooted rock bands (The Rolling Stones, The Replacements), this new album is packed with soulful pedal steeland twang guitar-accented songs. The album highlights his talent and versatility not only as a skillful guitarist, but also as a songwriter. These infectious Americana-laced rock songs are some of the best hes penned, from the chiming keys and buoyant, ringing guitars of Get Along to the pedal steel- and mandolin-lined heartache of Bandaged, and from the spry, Old 97s-ian Baby, Let It Out to the rueful country swing of Death March.

Shiflett wrote the songs on Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants over the course of 2008-09, inspiration first striking when a friend asked him to perform at Orange Countys punk-rockabilly Hootenanny festival in 2008. After re-immersing himself in his Americana and old country music collection to prepare a short set and then playing a brief acoustic tour with friend Joey Cape of Lagwagon, he began writing what eventually became the new album. Recorded at the Foo Fighters Studio 606 in Los Angeles, CA, this past December and January, the core band on Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants is Shiflett (vocals, guitar), 606 house engineer John Lousteau (drums, in addition to engineering), and Derek Silverman (keyboards). The albums additional instrumentation was performed by an array of fine musicians, including Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello and The Imposters, Jenny Lewis, John Hiatt) on bass, Greg Leisz (Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Whiskeytown) on pedal steel, Stevie Blacke (Beck, Weezer, Colbie Caillat) on violin and mandolin, and Audra Mae on backing vocals.

Deluxe Vinyl Gatefold Package Includes Bonus Red Colored 7" Vinyl

Featuring The Platinum Single "Wagon Wheel" Plus Two Previously Unreleased Tracks

Two-time Grammy Award winners and Grand Ole Opry members Old Crow Medicine Show release Best Of, which features
12 of the most memorable and beloved songs from O.C.M.S. (2004), Big Iron World (2006), Tennessee Pusher (2008) - as well
as two previously unreleased tracks: "Black Haired Quebecoise" and "Heart Up In The Sky." The album will be made
available on vinyl, a format on which none of these songs are currently available and many have never been.

Over the past 15 years, Old Crow Medicine Show has cultivated a diverse fan base that thrives on the band's energetic
performances. They have earned the respect of both their peers and influences while also influencing the new guard of
folk rock revivalists. While trends have come and gone, Old Crow Medicine Show continues to be a strong and steady
force in roots music. The Best Of is a nostalgic walk down memory lane for those who have been with the band since
the beginning, and a nice overview for those fans who have only discovered the band recently.

Old Crow Medicine Show got their start by busking on street corners up and down the east coast and Canada, eventually
catching the attention of folk icon Doc Watson while playing in front of a pharmacy in Boone, North Carolina. He invited
them to play Merlefest and helped set the course of their successful career.

Similarly, just a few years later, Nettwerk discovered the band by crashing a house party in Nashville. The band was signed
shortly after, and in 2004, Nettwerk released O.C.M.S., which featured the now Platinum-selling anthem "Wagon Wheel," one
of the most covered recordings in recent history, most famously by Darius Rucker who got the track to #1 on the Hot Country
    Songs chart in 2013.

Old Crow Medicine Show has won over audiences across the world with their boundless energy and spirit, playing renowned
festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, New Orleans Jazz Fest, the Newport Folk Festival, and many more. They've also shared
the stage with such artists as Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Willie Nelson, John Prine and The Avett Brothers and others.
The Best Of features "Wagon Wheel" along with other live show fan favorites like "Tell It To Me," "Down Home Girl," "CC Rider"
and "I Hear Them All." The two previously unreleased tracks, "Black Haired Quebecoise" and "Heart Up in the Sky" were
recorded in 2006 while the band was making Big Iron World.

Lindi Ortega is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter in the mold of classic artists Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris and contemporary acts Neko Case and Jenny Lewis. Torched songs filled with heartache and passion mixed with Lindi's Mexican/Irish heritage make for an incredible record and unique artist personality.

With a voice that undulates with absolute splendor, Lindi recorded Little Red Boots with Juno Award winning producer Ron Lopata. CBC Radio explains her style as a dash of country, a pinch of folk, a sprinkle of rock, and a smidgeon of jazz, a genre Ortega explains as a roadside motel love affair between old school outlaws and country darlings.

African American singer and guitar player who got his start playing on the streets of Memphis around the turn of the century. His enormous repertoire of early folk, blues, old time country and popular music, along with his influence on local musicians has made many point to him as the true father of Memphis blues. He began touring the South with a black face Medicine Show comedian in the 1910s where it is said he met and influenced Jimmie Rodgers, among others. He then moved to Tennessee where he began playing with musician Dan Sane with whom he made his first recordings as the Beale Street Sheiks for Paramount in 1927. Throughout this period Stokes recorded a number of sides for Paramount and Victor until his old time style began to lose popularity with the record buying public.

Originally released in 1959, The Fabulous Johnny Cash was the Man in Blacks third album and his first for the Columbia label. By this time, the twenty-seven year old Cash was already a major country music star, with four number one hits under his belt. This LP gave Cash two more hits with Dont Take Your Guns To Town (which also climbed to number 1) and Frankies Man, Johnny (which came in at number 9). His last Top Ten hit would not be until two decades later in 1979!

This album represents three distinct historical trends that came together in the span of only 10 days during recording at Studios 606 and Big Bad Sound in April of 2016. The most obvious one is the musicians themselves. The rhythm section is composed of players from Social Distortion. 36 years ago, Bad Religion and Social Distortion shared a stage in Santa Ana, California. Well, it wasn't really a stage, it was an abandoned warehouse made into a punk concert/party place. That was my first concert, as the singer/songwriter in Bad Religion. Our styles over the years diverged, but one consistent element remained - our love of American Folk Rock and Old-Time music continued to grow.

The second root apparent on this album is that of the sound and musicianship itself. No mere hacks, these musicians are masters. Vintage wood, having been crafted into musical instruments, produces the sound of history when played by virtuosos such as those collected here. An old guitar, a vintage fiddle, drums and bass, clawhammer banjo, and a combo of electric guitar and tubed amplifier, create a sound that can only be described as classic. When you add the beautiful harmonies of these most excellent background singers, there is no doubt that this music comes from a deep-rooted expression of American experience.

The final historical root is a personal one. The people who introduced me to Old-Time music are now old-timers themselves. My family roots go back to Indiana and Wisconsin. The Indiana folks sang a-Capella in the old country chapel at my Grandma's funeral. Her children taught me to sing and the songs they chose came from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and of course the folk revival tunes of the 1960s. This was the sound I brought forth to my own band starting in the 1980s. It's the only kind of lyrical style I know. And hopefully, this album will add another strong branch to my music. Thank you all for continuing to water the tree.

50 Years Of Blonde On Blonde (Live)

The 14-track album, 50 Years of Blonde on Blonde, was recorded LIVE at the CMA Theater located inside the historic Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum located in Nashville, TN in May 2016. Mixed by GRAMMY Award-winning Ted Hutt and Ryan Mall.

Fifty years is a long time for a place like Nashville, Tennessee. Time rolls on slowly around here like flotsam and jetsam in the muddy Cumberland River. But certain things have accelerated the pace of our city. And certain people have sent the hands of the clock spinning. Bob Dylan is the greatest of these time-bending, paradigm-shifting Nashville cats, says Ketch Secor, the primary vocalist of the Old Crow Medicine Show.

By deciding to record his newly found rock n roll voice in 1966 Nashville, Bob swung the gates of Country music wide open; so wide, in fact, that 50 years later there was still enough of a crack left for Old Crow Medicine Show to sneak its banjos and fiddles through the gates with string band swagger.
