Now That Everything's Been SaidWe all know the Carole King who wrote some of the biggest hits of the '60s, from "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" to "Pleasant Valley Sunday," via "The Locomotion" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." We also know the singer-songwriter behind Tapestry, the album that launched King as a solo singer in her own right. But in between-and not nearly as well known-is King's band, The City, and their album, Now That Everything's Been Said.
By the mid-'60s, King's marriage to Gerry Goffin, with whom she'd written many of those wonderful hits, had hit the rocks. A divorce loomed, and King all but retired to raise their two daughters. She headed west to Laurel Canyon in '67, taking the children with her, and made the previously unlikely move of joining a progressive folk-rock band. King formed The City with future husband Charles Larkey on bass and Danny Kortchmar on guitar and vocals. With King on piano and vocals, they created a folk rock sound that pre-empted the singer-songwriter boom of the '70s.
Produced by Lou Adler and featuring Jimmy Gordon on drums, The City's sound is deep and soulful, imperfect but passionate. And the songs, with King writing or co-writing all but one, are as exceptional as you'd expect and as widely covered as her factory work. "Now That Everything's Been Said" was a hit for American Spring, "A Man Without A Dream" was tackled by The Monkees, and "Hi-De-Ho (That Old Sweet Roll)" was a hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears. Central to the album's appeal is King's own stirring reading of her track "Wasn't Born To Follow," covered masterfully by The Byrds for the Easy Rider soundtrack.
King had been used to a life on the sidelines, and her stage fright left the trio unable to tour the LP which adversely affected their fortunes. That, plus some behind-the-scenes distribution problems, meant the album was quickly deleted, and it remained so for the next thirty years-partly at King's request. Even so, its failure was a surprise to those concerned. "I was 26 when Now That Everything's Been Said was released in 1968," King says of the album. "[We] expected it to zoom to the top of the charts within, at most, a few weeks. Individually and together, we optimistically imagined the album's success as if it had already happened. Danny and Charlie kept telling each other, 'It's a great album. The City is gonna be Number 1 with a bullet!'
Listening now, you can feel the threads that lead to Tapestry and to the hugely successful performing career that followed. It's not so much an oddity in King's work as the missing link between her two lives. Reissued here in deluxe vinyl, this is, at long last, a chance to own this lost album.1. Snow Queen

That's Not Funny, That's SickThe National Lampoon Radio Hour remains one of the most influential eforts at audio sketch comedy. The core of that show became the inaugural class of SNL's Not Ready For Primetime Players, and many of the performers on this 1977 album also went on to fame there. That's Why I'm HereThat's Why I'm Here is singer-songwriter James Taylor's eleventh album. It was released in 1985, four years after his previous effort, Dad Loves His Work [MOVLP893], and contains a cover version of Buddy Holly's Everyday, as well as the participation of a number of artists, including Don Henley, Joni Mitchell and Graham Nash.
Taylor had found his long-term niche with baby boomer fans now permanently tuned to Soft Rock radio - this was Taylor's first record to spawn three Top Ten adult contemporary hits, with the title track, Only One and a cover of Buddy Holly's Everyday. Elvis Aaron Presley was born during The Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.
The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long term deal, forever etching "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. In 1970 after a plethora of chart topping albums and a bevy of number one singles, Elvis Presley continued to build his marquee value even further while starring in a staggering amount of feature motion pictures. More incredible fame followed as the That's The Way It Is movie starring Elvis Presley became another box office hit for the King. The 70's epic documentary captured Elvis's first concert tour in over a decade, as the brilliant soundtrack album recorded live in Las Vegas and in RCA Studios, Nashville, was also was a blockbuster as it rose to the upper rungs of the album charts, making this his 40th hit album in a row! Trust NowTrust Now is the keystone album of Brooklyns Prince Rama. The album takes the kaleidoscopic mysticism of ancient devotional music and focuses it through the fierce urgency and archetypal language of pop, forming an environment that is both accessible and impenetrable.
Deep synths rise from a sparkling sea of gamelans and prayer bells as tribal drums pound the earth with the hypnotic power to heal or destroy. Voices carry captivating and haunting melodies that shine like the diamond jewels of old Bollywood soundtracks spilling over dark wave dance floors.
First conceived as a ritual to be performed live, the songs were fittingly recorded inside a 19th century church in Seattle by Scott Colburn (Sun City Girls, Animal Collective, Arcade Fire). As their 5th full-length album, and first as a duo, Trust Now is perhaps Prince Ramas most focused, cohesive and powerful album to date.1. Rest in Peace

Love NowMean Lady is the duo of Katie Dill and Sam Nobles. They are from Delaware and they're both really nice. Really, really nice. For their new debut LP the duo have written a collection of songs about lust, innocence and vulnerability.
Pitchfork have premiered first single "Far Away," writing, "'Far Away' wouldn't feel out of place on the last Youth Lagoon record, an out-of-time waltz flanked by aqueous sound effects. It's a prelude to something far more vigorous, though, as squishy beats, sprightly piano plinks, and an approximation of a sitar server as the backdrop for Katie Dill's transcontinental love letter."
Through bubbly synths and rhythmic production, Dill and Nobles managed to cobble together a timeless, concise pop record. It's a finished product that could only exist when kids from Delaware grew up, trashed all their soul records and then got high some time after DJ Shadow started to suck but probably before J Dilla died.
Love Now is deep and rich. The sound is Sam's wonderfully abrupt sampling and skipping drum beats underneath the band's live instruments. All of this is anchored by Katie's songwriting and sharp, but sweet vocals. Take heed: this is an important debut for a young band.1. One Big Family

Memories Are NowJesca Hoop's new album Memories Are Now on Sub Pop Records wastes no time in making clear its confidence, confrontation, and craftsmanship. The stark and reverberant title track opens the album with "a fighting spirit," says Hoop, serving as an anthem to push through any obstacle and put forth your very best work. And she has unequivocally done that here, with an album of stunningly original songs--minimalist yet brimming with energy, emerging from a wealth of life experience, great emotional depth, and years of honing the craft of singing.
As riveting as it is reflective, the album, produced by Blake Mills (Fiona Apple, Alabama Shakes), is a fresh debut of sorts for Hoop, as the first of her solo records made outside of Tony Berg's Zeitgeist Studios where she and Mills were mentored. Says Hoop, "Blake is so utterly musical and emotionally intelligent in his expression. I wanted to see what we could do, just he and I out from under Tony's wing." Mills pushed her to strip away layers, keeping it as close to the live experience as possible, using whole live takes and working very quickly. "It's still covered in embryonic fluid, for lack of a better way to put it," says Hoop.
However fast the work, Memories Are Now covers a great deal of ground, showcasing every edge and curve of Hoop's captivating voice, with sounds and themes ranging from the mythic to the deeply intimate. She sings of the religion that weighs heavily on her past and the world, of the imagination of myth, of the cruel nature of life and love.
The defiance that permeates Memories Are Now is both a product and necessity of a career that has been independently driven and self-funded from the beginning. "All of my successes have been won on the grassroots level, with handshakes and hugs from great people who believe in me," says Hoop, more than a decade into her career and with new paths to forge. As she sings in the title track, "I've lived enough life, I've earned my stripes. That's my knife in the ground, this is mine." -Evie Nagy1. Memories Are Now

Why Love NowPissed Jeans have been making gnarly noise for 13 years, and on their
fifth album, Why Love Now, the male-fronted quartet is taking aim at
the mundane discomforts of modern life-from fetish webcams to
office-supply deliveries. Rock bands can retreat to the safety of what
rock bands usually sing about. So 60 years from now, when no one
has a telephone, bands will be writing songs like, 'I'm waiting for her
to call me on my telephone.' Kids are going to be like, 'Grandpa, tell
me, what was that?' I'd rather not shy away from talking about the
internet or interactions in 2016, says frontman Matt Korvette.
Pissed Jeans' gutter-scraped amalgamation of sludge, punk, noise,
and bracing wit make the band-Korvette, Brad Fry (guitar), Randy
Huth (bass) and Sean McGuinness (drums)-a release valve for a
world where absurdity seems in a constant battle trying to outdo
itself. Why Love Now picks at the bursting seams that are barely
holding 21st-century life together. Take the grinding rave-up The Bar
Is Low, which, according to Korvette, is about how every guy seems
to be revealing themselves as a shithead. It seems like every guy is
getting outed, across every board of entertainment and politics and
music. There's no guy that isn't a total creep.
The lyrics on Why Love Now are particularly pointed about gender
relations and the minefield they present in 2016. 'It's Your Knees' is
about the endless, unrequested, commenting on if you'd fuck a girl.
'My great aunt won a cooking contest.' 'Oh, that's pretty hot. I'd hit
that,' says Korvette. On Love Without Emotion Korvette channels
Nick Cave's guttural side while bemoaning his detachment over
cavernous guitars. Ignorecam twists the idea of fetish cam shows-
where the woman just ignores you and watches TV or eats macaroni
and cheese or talks on the phone-into a showcase for Korvette's
rancid yelp and his bandmates' pummeling rock.
As they did on their last album, 2013's Honeys, Pissed Jeans offer a
couple of fuck that shit type songs about the working world. And the
startling I'm A Man, which comes at the album's midpoint, finds
author Lindsay Hunter (Ugly Girls) taking center stage, delivering a
self-penned monologue of W.B. Mason-inspired erotica-office small
talk about pens and coffee given just enough of a twist to expose its
filthy underside, with Hunter adopting a grimacing menace that
makes its depiction of curdled masculinity even more harrowing.
No Wave legend Lydia Lunch shacked up in Philadelphia to produce
Why Love Now alongside local metal legend Arthur Rizk (Eternal
Champion, Goat Semen). I knew she wasn't a traditional producer,
Korvette says of Lunch. I like how she's so cool and really intimidating.
She ended up being so fucking awesome and crazy. She was
super into it, constantly threatening to bend us over the bathtub. I'm
not really sure what that entails, but I know she probably wasn't
joking." The combination of Lunch's spiritual guidance and Rizk's
technical prowess supercharged Pissed Jeans, and the bracing Why
Love Now documents them at their grimy, grinning best. While its
references may be very early-21st-century, its willingness to state its
case cement it as an album in line with punk's tradition of turning
norms on their heads and shaking them loose.1. Waiting On My Horrible Warning

Kevin Augunas (Edwards Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Cold War Kids, Needtobreathe) at the legendary Sound City Studios
a.k.a. Fairfax Recording. From Indian Lakes took a very different approach on this record with songwriter and singer Joey
Vannucchi recording all instruments and vocals for the album. "I feel like I had to write a ton of songs before I could get to this
sound, took time off from doing anything really. When it came time to record I wasn't sure what to expect. Every time I think I've
gone as deep as I can, I peel back skin and discover another layer that's been there waiting. That's what this album is" Vannucchi

Outrage! Is NowThe merry merchants of muscular death dance discord - Sebastien Grainger (vocals, drums) and Jesse F. Keeler (bass, keys, synths) - made a collective decision to embrace their own penchant for perpetual motion while gleefully maintaining the car-wreck intensity of their punkified disco rock. Ultimately, Outrage! Is Now confidently kicks off a new chapter for Death From Above.
We are committed to evolution. This record is the sound of the two us pushing at the walls. We want there to be space, surprises and action!, says Sebastien. We both wanted to see how far we could take our sound as Death From Above. In a way, that has always been our objective, adds Jesse.
Outrage! Is Now is meant to be felt on both a visceral and emotional level, concludes Sebastien. We tried to make something that excites and surprises. Now And ForeverSister Sin's leather lunged style is raw and powerful... tuneful and utterly captivating. - Outburn
An abundance of chugging, libidinous riffs, blazing leads and shrill, attitude-socked vocals reminiscent of early Motley Crue. - Revolver
Swedish mob SISTER SIN are once again storming the scene with their potent mix of classic metal and punk attitude on their latest album, Now and Forever. The band continue to bang heads around the world with a consistent formula of raw and dirty Rock N' Roll guitar riffs, stomping rhythm section, and anthemic , instantly-singable, choruses from the outstanding front-woman, Liv. SISTER SIN's tight musicianship and crisp production deliver memorable gems that are a true testament to the spirit of old-school heavy metal.
Having collaborated with and performed alongside Rock N' Roll icons MOTÖRHEAD and DORO, SISTER SIN now look to carry the torch from the glory days of MÖTLEY CRÜE and JUDAS PRIEST to a new generation of modern metalheads on Now and Forever.1. MMXII

In The NowIn The Now is the new solo album from Barry Gibb, the surviving member of one of music s most successful and revered bands, the Bee Gees, formed with his brothers Robin and Maurice. Produced by Barry and co-producer John Merchant, In The Now is only the second solo effort of Gibb's career and his first album of all new material since the Bee Gees final studio album in 2001.
The new album is an impassioned solo effort that signals a welcome return of one of the most identifiable and versatile voices in the history of rock, pop, and R&B. The 12-track album was recorded in Miami with the same gathering of accomplished musicians Barry assembled for his acclaimed 2014 solo tour. And Barry has kept In The Now a family affair, writing all the songs with his sons Stephen and Ashley. Commenting on working with his sons, Barry said, 'We've been writing together for a long long time - my eldest son Stephen and my second eldest son Ashley. So in a very spiritual way it's not my three brothers, it's my two sons. But it still works the same way. I'm a better writer if I'm writing with somebody.
Barry proudly admits, All of the feelings that I've ever had in life are all in this album.
Barry Gibb has had a phenomenal career. As a founding member of the Bee Gees, along with his brothers Robin and Maurice, Barry Gibb has sold more than 220 million albums worldwide. Between Robin, Maurice, and Andy, the Gibb brothers achieved 19 number one records on the Billboard charts including a phenomenal 6 in a row, equaling The Beatles record. As a record producer/songwriter, Barry has been instrumental in creating milestones for other artists, ranging from Barbra Streisand's 'Guilty' album to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers country record 'Islands In The Stream' also, Diana Ross 'Eaten Alive featuring 'Chain Reaction' as well as Dionne Warwick's 'Heartbreaker' album.LP 1

Today And NowColeman Hawkins recorded three sessions for Impulse Records in the early to mid '60's. Of the three, Today And Now is the most compelling and the unusual choice of repertoire is what sets the album apart. The Hawk plays with an abandon that is altogether effortless throughout and his versions of the traditional song Go Li'l Liza and the fairly obscure Quincy Jones ballad Quintessence are creatively rendered. His band consisting of pianist Tommy Flanagan, bass player Major Holley and drummer Eddie Locke, back the tenor king here with a similar imaginative approach. A largely impromptu session, each song develops and evolves with each chorus, and it would serve as one of Hawkins' last great records.

Every Now & ThenJagwar Ma returns with their second album Every Now & Then.
The Sydney-formed band came together for sessions across a handful of studios and locations in Australia, the UK, and France to shake up an altogether inspired new offering. Full of spirit and exploding with the energy of new ideas, Every Now & Then is formed from the building blocks of a myriad of sonic touchstones upon which Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield concoct a heady, uplifting brew that very much owns it's own space on the spectrum.
Singer/guitarist Gabriel Winterfield and multi-instrumentalist Jono Ma originally joined forces at the turn of the decade, having reached an impasse with their previous bands. Liberated, they instantly felt their horizons opening up, culminating in the kaleidoscopic dub-pop of Jagwar Ma's 2013 debut album Howlin. Augmented by their old Sydney friend Jack Freeman on bass and backing vocals they set about creating their own infectious groove with their increasingly powerful live show.
After almost three years of touring the world (including tours with Foals, The xx, and Tame Impala) the band returned to Australia to write and begin recording at Sonar studios in Sydney. With the basis of the album written, the band headed back to La Briche near Tours in rural France, where they had recorded their debut in a self-built studio on a friend's partly-renovated farm, before returning to London to record drum sessions with Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa and James Ford and finishing mixing with old friend Ewan Pearson in their new shared Tottenham studio The Bunker II.
Jono is a student of the studio in the Jagwar Ma camp, and on Every Now & Then his production hand constructs the richly singular sonic world each track inhabits. The record is littered with surprising selections yet maintains an ebb and flow that echoes that of a day in coastal Australia. 'Repetition invites participation' and the composition of Every Now & Then is a testament to the turn of phrase, subtly seducing with loose-limbed sinewy grooves on loop.
Entrancing incantations on romantic love, truth and courage come courtesy of co-songwriter and lead vocalist Gabriel. Lush melody from left field, grungey phrasing and pagan shapes, Winterfield flows in tandem with each song's unique sea of sound. "Can we be real?"
Classic bass lines, jangly guitar parts and Paul's Boutique-inspired loops bounce off elements of synth-pop and encounter bass heavy experiments redolent of Blanck Mass and other elements of the Norwegian electronic onslaught together with swelling psychedelic choruses, reminiscent of summer-kissed Ocean Rain-period Bunnymen, exploding into melodic, sun-soaked wig-outs.
At heart, a studio album, designed for lone listening on headphones but as a shared experience is where it will really come to life. Their live appearances for Howlin' were electric and key elements of Every Now & Then took on extra shape while touring Europe with fellow compatriots Tame Impala, successfully working out the structure of tracks in front of arena crowds.
Every Now & Then deftly covers a broad expanse of sound and mood. Say What You Feel gradually envelopes with its tireless drive and shapeshifting form to an ecstatic peak before Loose Ends cools down the pace with dubbed, fractured melodies. Give Me A Reason flips from muted funk pop to percolating, percussive house before seamlessly transitioning into a gyrating, teched up club tool. The glorious dynamism continues with Ordinary's quantum leap chorus, while High Rotation possesses a sinister spirit, a chuggy druggy groove and compelling, cultish chanting. Colour Of Paradise closes out the record, a bittersweet beauty of surf melodies and euphoric synths - 'searching through every grain of sand', lifting off and leaving the earthly territory behind completely for a deeper, more celestial, spacey place.
From underwater liquid rhythm through to joyous, floating in the clouds sky highs, Every Now & Then is Jagwar Ma's cathartic new injection we endeavor you to dose up on.1. Falling
