Originally released on CD in 2001, Charlie Haden's Nocturne was awarded the Grammy Award in 2002 for Best Latin Jazz Album.
Charlie Haden teams up once more with the young Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba for this melancholy, soothing album. Ignacio Berroa, on drums and percussion, completes the core trio. Special guests include tenor saxophonists Joe Lovano and David Sanchez, violinist Federico Britos Ruiz, and guitarist Pat Metheny (one track only). Rubalcaba contributes orchestrations on two cuts, both of which omit drums and percussion. Haden's intention is to explore the bolero, a distinctive Latin dance rhythm that Ignacio Berroa accents with a soft, subtle snare drum roll, played with brushes, beginning on the and of the first beat of the bar and ending on the second. This rhythm is perfect for a slow dance, and indeed, the entire album is highly romantic, with bittersweet melodies and lilting cadences...- David R. Adler (All Music Guide)

On this release, Benjamin Britten conducts the London Symphony Orchestra performing Nocturne. Additionally, Peter Pears and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden perform Four Sea Interludes and Passacaglia from Peter Grimes.
Nocturne is a song cycle by Benjamin Britten, written for tenor, seven obbligato instruments and strings. The seven instruments are flute, cor anglais, clarinet, bassoon, harp, French horn and timpani. Nocturne was Britten's fourth and final orchestral song cycle. It was dedicated to Alma Mahler.
Nocturne was premiered in the Leeds Town Hall at the centenary Leeds Festival on 16 October 1958 by Peter Pears and the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Rudolf Schwarz.
The theme of the piece, as its name Nocturne suggests, is sleep and darkness, both in the literal and figurative sense. In this respect, the work is reminiscent of Britten's earlier Serenade. Unlike Serenade, Nocturne is presented as a continuous piece rather than separate movements. This is emphasized by a number of figures which occur throughout, most notably the 'rocking' string motif which opens the work. The conflicting tonal relationship between C and D-flat is also evident throughout, reflecting the contrast between the untroubled and the more perturbed aspects of sleep which are also described by Britten's choice of poems.
Four Sea Interludes and Passacaglia are from Britten's opera Peter Grimes. Both pieces are often performed together.

Nocturne Of Exploded Crystal Chandelier (Awaiting Repress)There is no shortage of magical moments on Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, from Side As one-two punch of American West and Oh, Naoko to the heartfelt Waiting on You and the anthemic Put the Days Away. Sun Airway twists their songs with their kaleidoscopic production, lush electronic washes, synthetic textures and pulsing rhythms obscuring the hooks in hazy pop bliss.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Sun Airway is led by songwriter Jon Barthmus, who is joined by fellow sound sculptor Patrick Marsceill. Recorded primarily in Barthmus basement studio over the course of 18 months, the album blends processed sounds, field recordings and timeless vocal melodies into their abstract fractured pop.1. Debussy - Nocturnes / Ravel - Daphnes et Chloe (Speakers Corner)
With his Nocturnes, Debussy's vision of music inspired by Nature enters a new sphere. His first multi-part orchestral work the composition was originally conceived for violin but was published as a vocal-symphonic work offers a wealth of subtleties as regards melody and sound coloring, the likes of which had never been heard before in Debussy's oeuvre. Unlike traditional orchestral writing, the woodwinds here provide vitality with a wide spectrum of tonal coloring while the strings unroll a dynamically finely graded carpet of sound. Absolutely innovative is the wordless female chorus in the third movement whose voices combine with the instruments to produce a mysterious tonal concoction.
Debussy's compatriot, Ravel, went to even greater lengths in his Daphnis and Chloe Suites. As the instrumental distribution leads one to suspect full orchestra plus 15 percussion instruments, chorus and wind machine the work is a full-fledged modern-age French choreographic symphony and one of the greatest compositions of its time. It is almost superfluous to mention that a thrilling performance of both works can only be achieved by the very best of symphony orchestras.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Claude Debussy: Nocturnes: Nuages, Fêtes, Sirènes

Gargoyle (Awaiting Repress)Early in 2016, Mark was at home in LA, working on some ideas for what might turn into his next album when he got an email from a friend, an English musician named Rob Marshall, thanking Mark for contributing to a new project he was putting together, Humanist. The pair first met in 2008, when Marshall's former band Exit Calm supported Soulsavers, who Mark was singing with at the time. Now Rob was offering to write Mark some music to return the favour: "I was like, Hey man, I'm getting ready to make a record if you've got anything?'" Mark recalls. "Three days later he sent me *10 things !"
In the meantime, Mark had written 'Blue Blue Sea', a rippling mood piece that he thought might be a more fruitful direction for his new record. "It's almost always how my records start," he explains. "I let the first couple of songs tell me what the next couple should sound like, and it's really the same process when I'm writing words. Whatever my first couple of lines are, tell me what the next couple should be. I've always built things like that, sort of like making a sculpture I guess."
Within an hour, Mark had written words and vocal lines for two of the pieces Rob had cooked up at Mount Sion Studios in Kent and pinged through the virtual clouds to California. Rob's music fitted perfectly with the direction Mark had been pondering: in essence, a more expansive progression from the moody Krautrock-influenced electronica textures of his two previous albums, 'Blues Funeral' and 'Phantom Radio'. Eventually, Rob Marshall would co-write six of the songs on the new Mark Lanegan Band album. "I was very thankful to become reacquainted with him," Mark deadpans.
The remainder of the album was written, recorded and produced by Lanegan's longtime musical amanuensis Alain Johannes at his 11 AD base in West Hollywood. Everything was done and dusted within a month, unusually fast by Lanegan's recent standards. "I definitely feel like I'm a better songwriting than I was 15 years ago," he says. "I don't know if I'm just kidding myself or what, but it's definitely easier now to make something that is satisfying to me. Maybe I'm just easier on myself these days, but it's definitely not as painful a process, and therefore I feel I'm better at it now. But part of the way that I stay interested in making music is by collaborating with other people. When I see things through somebody else's perspective it's more exciting than if I'm left to my own devices."
While sharing roots with its two predecessors, on Gargoyle there's a significant up-shift in the swaggering power load of such keynote songs as Nocturne and Beehive, while the lyrics' tonal palette is more varied. The album title comes from a lyric in Blue Blue Sea - "Gargoyle perched on gothic spire" - and was chosen for its hint of self-deprecation. "I'm most proud of the songs that are atypical to stuff that I've done in the past," says Mark. "So I really like Old Swan, because it's an expression of positivity, which is completely anti-anything I've done before!" He laughs. "Y'know, I haven't played this record for too many people yet. I played it for Greg Dulli, who played on some of it, and he was like, 'Wow, I had to listen to it twice - it sounds like he's having a good time '
It's been a long journey traveled, not always easy, but in 2017, at the age of 52, Lanegan's got the look of permanence about him. Like that gargoyle on the gothic spire .1. Deaths Head Tattoo

In The VinesRay Raposa had nearly finished this follow-up to 2005's First Light's Freeze when he was mugged at gunpoint outside his Brooklyn home. This climaxed a year of depression and nomadic, nocturnal dislocation for him. Appropriately, the album is based on a Hindu fable about being trapped in an inescapable fate, with death and the limitations of our physical lives closing in from all corners. But it isn't all darkness and peril; there's a strange sense of hope and delight in the brief moments of beauty that sustain our lives. Dear HeatherLeonard Cohen, the most elegant Canadian bard, whispers his way through his 2004 album 'Dear Heather' like a poet quietly musing over his life and loves. The mellow, hushed, and somewhat nocturnal character of the album commands attention through Cohen's deep baritone and Sharon Robinson's clear vocals. It's an intimate album that celebrates lost loves and friendships instead of mourning them, an introspective look on life from a ripe old age (Cohen turned 70 when the album was released). The Metallic YearImbogodom are the UK's Alexander Tucker and New Zealand's Daniel Beban. The Metallic Year is their Thrill Jockey debut and first release under the Imbogodom moniker. Mutual friends in sound exploration, this Trans-Atlantic duo create other-worldly transmissions where improvisation gives way to mutated song forms and intricate soundscapes. The Metallic Year is a collection of eerie tracks where sound collage and unraveling songs present a haunted world of spooling atmospheres, warped instrumentation, and disembodied voices. The nocturnal creations were inspired by the tape experiments of BBC's Radiophonics Workshop, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and their love of New Zealand musician Alastair Galbraith. Until The Quiet ComesComposed, according to FlyLo, as a collage of mystical states, dreams, sleep and lullabies, Until the Quiet Comes has the distinct feel of this nocturnal trip. From the twitching descent into a subconscious state and the out-of-focus time-ether of the journey that follows, the sound is an unhinged, yet elegant evolution of the melodic and rhythmic interplay that is woven into the DNA of Flying Lotus' aural personae. The album, featuring guests Erykah Badu, Laura Darlington, Niki Randa, Thundercat & Thom Yorke, is set for release on October 2. UTQC is fueled by FlyLo's first ever full US Tour, multiple videos, creative visual assets and massive support from his ever-growing group of press and fans. And They Turned Not When They WentImbogodom's And They Turned Not When They Went sees Alexander Tucker and Daniel Beban return to the BBC's Bush House for another nocturnal collection of pure analogue tape work. Here the musique concrète worlds are more defined than on 2010's The Metallic Year. Using live feeds from the Houses of Parliament's bell Big Ben, Tucker and Beban create foreboding landscapes for obscure horror soundtracks where foley techniques of everyday objects turn into threatening phone calls from poltergeist entities trapped inside the warm mixing desk and dusty tape machines. Stretched, slowed, and warped source material takes us back to early electronic synthesis of magnetic tape whilst reveling in the endless possibilities thrown up from processes of analogue experimentation.
And They Turned Not When They Went also sees Imbogodom sharpening their song-smithery with Tucker and Beban combining their efforts. Trading between tape manipulator and player, the duo compose, dismantle, and expand their unique brand of songwriting. Psycho-geographic sound worlds map central London's deep dark loam and linger in the wind of New Zealand's remote countryside.
As well as recording in the Bush House tape research studios, Imbogodom decamped to Dungeness in Kent, recording in and outside historical local buildings such as The Roundhouse, an old light house and Coast Guard building, where natural resonances and atmospheric conditions create site-specific songs and fleeting fragile sound pieces.1. LuciferLucifer is the third full-length release from West Coast dub heroes Peaking Lights. The golden duo of Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis continue to crystallize their mesmerizing sound and find new dimensions within. Lucifer also comes at a time of great transition for this married couple and it reflects the possibilities that they have found during this new life era, especially with the birth of their son, Mikko, a guiding light muse for the album.
Recorded in Brooklyn, NY at Gary's Electric studio over the course of a month, Peaking Lights consider Lucifer a nocturnal version of their sound. It's slinkier and full of grooves. To us this record is about play and playfullness, unconditional love, rhythms and pulses, creation and vibration, says Coyes. Lucifer is also Peaking Lights' most ambitious release to date in terms of its approach and scope.
Through their studio experiments, the duo has managed to link their musical loves ie dub, krautrock, analog electronic dance music, sound collages, pop music, all while maintaining cohesive songs. Live At The Isle of Wight Festival 1970White Colored Vinyl
Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 is a 3 LP live album by The Who, recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival on 29 August 1970, and released by Sony in 1996. The Who were one year and three months into their Tommy tour when they played their second engagement at the Isle of Wight Festival. As in 1969, they played most of their famous rock opera, which by this time was quite familiar to the festival crowd. Huge spotlights bathed the audience of some 600,000 attendees, and as The Who's tour manager John Woolf recalls, attracted every moth and flying nocturnal animal on the island. By August 1970, Pete Townshend was already introducing new songs to the setlist including Water, I Don't Even Know Myself and Naked Eye. These songs, which were being recorded at the time of the festival, were intended for an upcoming project known as Lifehouse. Although Lifehouse was eventually abandoned, the sessions paved the way to the Who's classic album Who's Next. The Who also performed some live staples such as Heaven and Hell, Substitute, My Generation, Magic Bus, I Can't Explain, and the perennial covers of Shakin' All Over and Summertime Blues.LP1

NoctilucenceNoctilucence is a new 12 recorded between in 2013 and 2014 between Los Angeles, California,
and Cleveland, Ohio. The term "noctilucence" comes from "noctilucent clouds", the name
given to clouds which, for some reason, emit a brilliant vibrance at night. On this recording
we find our subject diving into the electric waters of the night sky, in long drives across the
vast deserts of America. It's a recording about the discovery and understanding of the shadow,
entrance to the realm not controlled by the light of day, or the logic of reason. It's about
confronting nocturnal terrors and all of those things that go bump in the night.
Understanding that the ancient archetypes which watch over us don't flinch, and stand firm
across the spell of time. On Along The Way we sought the Macrobes for guidance, and on
Noctilucence we see them taking real shape. Opening with a mantra to the perpetual
regeneration of the spirit of love, crying out for new levels of confidence and consciousness to
emerge from the human race, Noctilucence is a deep stare into the infinite eye of the
shimmering night sky of the future, and all it holds in its gaze.

On this 2013 studio recording of Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues, an effervescent improvisatory poem-sequence which he wrote for Paul Weller, he is accompanied by three of the UK's most popular musicians - Weller himself, Graham Coxon & Damon Albarn.
The record was recorded at Weller's Black Barn Studio and Albarn's Studio 13, and mixed at Studio 13, and originally released for Record Store Day 2013 alongside the accompanying Gearbox Records releases 'Ballade Of The Nocturnal Commune' (Jazz Poetry SuperJam #2) and the 2 LP box set 'Blues For The Hitchhiking Dead' (Jazz Poetry SuperJam #1).
Paul Weller found that: ...It was my absolute pleasure to work in these recordings with Michael. Damon and Graham. I am a big fan of all three of these artists and just to be so free with all the music and ideas was a real buzz. A lot of fun and no egos in the way. Fabulous. UnfidelityNick Edwards' Ekoplekz project creates an album that feels just right for Mu.Ekoplekz has previously released on a number of labels, but with Unfidelity the music aligns itself with Mu's melodic sensibilities and lets the early 90's electronica influences bleed in, although the album still has the intensely transporting feel that all his work possesses.
The title track is the big giveaway to Nick's music if you've not heard it before. A hands on approach to music making, 4-track recordings, un-sequenced and murky with a molasses thick harmonic drone that needs to come with a 'do not listen to whilst driving heavy machinery' warning, leaving you with a mood flashback to the fuggy feeling of a teenage bong intake.
The music on Unfidelity has a dreamy, nocturnal feel. It's perpetually damp, with muffled drums, cloudy dissonance and dubbed-out metallic squalls, it owes as much to King Tubby as LFO, or to the Radiophonic Workshop as Harmonia. Take Severn Beach's slowly building melodies over a bed of broken drum-machine rhythm. It sounds like a twisted memory of seventies TV holding music, or Sea 90's squealing metallic dub. Nerva Beacon is dreamlike: it's nervous pulse holding together a tense journey with an underwater feeling. Coalpit Heath is a skewed take on Jazz, with a delicate melody finding itself enveloped by rain, dubbed-out shivering fx and bubbling drums. Meanwhile Pressure Level is almost dub techno, mercilessly delayed melodies and noisy squall over a low dub bassline and a barely there drum kick and Tuning Out runs with Kosmische melodies and blended noise. The album finishes with Sleng Zen's rich orchestral chords, pattering drums and dubbed bleeps. We think this is Ekoplekz's most satisfying album to date and we hope you do too.LP1

This World Is Not EnoughSince 2010, Elias Bender Rønnenfelt (Iceage, Vår) has used the Marching
Church moniker to a variety of musical ends, both live and recorded. However,
the project as it exists on This World Is Not Enough wasn't born until November
2013. With a live performance looming and no real idea what the set would be,
Rønnenfelt found a new vision for the band while daydreaming at a gig at the
venue where Marching Church was set to perform. "What I pictured was me in a
comfortable armchair, adorned in a golden robe, leading a band while a girl kept
pouring me champagne when I required it," Rønnenfelt explained. "This raised
the question, 'What sort of music would go along with this picture?'"
Rønnenfelt discovered the answer to that question with a lineup rounded out by
Kristian Emdal and Anton Rothstein of Lower, Cæcilie Trier (Choir of Young
Believers), Bo H. Hansen (Hand of Dust, Sexdrome) and Frederikke Hoffmeier
(Puce Mary). Under Rønnenfelt's leadership, the group composed some music,
rehearsed twice, and played their show. It was decided that night that this incarnation
of Marching Church would make a record.
This World Is Not Enough was influenced at first by obscure works like David
Maranha's experimental drone-rock saga Antarctica, and eventually by soul
bandleaders like James Brown and Sam Cooke. "The whole month of writing
and rehearsing and the one week we had in the studio was truly an explosion
of ideas," Rønnenfelt said. "Improvisation, something I have never worked with
before, was crucial in the making of this album, considering the loose nature
of the writing on some of these songs. The album works because of the band's
incredible ability of breathing life into these, at times, very simple ideas and
The eight tracks that made the final cut are, in Rønnenfelt's words, "songs of
nocturnal longing, preposterous self-obsession and cockeyed etiquette," and they
are an exemplary statement of the songwriter's extraordinary growth since the
birth of Iceage.1. Living in Doubt
