Music For Listening To Music To

    180-Gram White Vinyl

Produced By Ryan Adams At His Pax-Am Studios

"Lovely melody counterbalanced by rough guitars and
    lightning-quick solos." - SPIN

After the punky heft and wildness of 2014's Hour of the Dawn,
an LP that thrashed against expectation, La Sera returns with
a set of songs that double down on the power of wry lyrics,
glorious guitar, driving backbeat, and the occasional pump
    organ groove.

Ryan Adams joins to produce the fruit of their union, La Sera's
first live-recorded analog album, featuring 10 tunes about
good love, bad love, dead men, and confused kids.

As a testament to the chemistry that happened in that
space, Music For Listening to Music To spawned another
fruitful relationship: Adams and Wisenbaker hit it off and
decided to start their own band. Instead they wound up
recording a bunch of Taylor Swift covers, which became
    the 1989 album.

    Music To Draw To: Satellite

Kid Koala's Music To Draw To: Satellite is an uncharted musical journey for the legendary scratch DJ, producer, and composer. Kid Koala's fifth studio album is an expansive work of ambient electronic soundscapes and chilling ballads sung by Icelandic artist Emiliana Torrini. Created during the gelid Montreal winter, its eighteen movements tell a tale of discovery and loss through the lens of lovers separated by an early space mission to Mars. An album of many firsts for Eric San, this inaugural volume in the Music To Draw To series features Kid Koala collaborating with a vocalist, writing lyrical poetry, and producing and performing all instruments. Satellite is the renowned audio-collagist's first non-sample-based record, instead using an array of synthesizers, keys, guitars, strings, turntables, noisemakers and San's inventive recording techniques to lay out this heartrending musical story. The output is in stark, beautiful comparison an ambient masterpiece: over 72 atmospheric minutes of stardust settling over Kid Koala's trove of turntables and sentiment.

Ten Years After was founded in 1966 by keyboardist Chick Churchill, drummer Ric Lee, guitarist Alvin Lee and bassist Leo Lyons. The band experimented with a psychedelic sound during the late sixties through the early seventies along with their career making performance at Woodstock which introduced themselves to music fans in America.

During that era, Ten Years After charted several albums in the United States such as "Watt," "Cricklewood Green" and "A Space in Time." They also managed to chart two Top Forty singles "Love Like a Man" and "I'd Love to Change the World."

    Dance To The Music

Sly & the Family Stone came into their own with their second album, Dance to the Music, released in 1968. It contains the Top Ten hit single of the same name. This seminal album helped lay the groundwork for the development of Funk music.

This is such exuberant music, bursting with joy and invention, it's easy to get sucked into the freewheeling spirit and cavalier virtuosity of the group. Prior to this record no one, not even the Family Stone, treated Soul as a psychedelic sun splash, filled with bright melodies, kaleidoscopic arrangements, inextricably intertwined interplay, and deft, fast rhythms.

Dance to the Music peaked at #8 in The Billboard Hot 100, and reached 9th place in the R&B Singles of 1968. The song propelled Sly & The Family Stone into the stratosphere.

Rough Guide To Legends Of Indian Music

India's classical music is deeply bound to the country's mystical ancient traditions. Stretching back through time to the Vedic period musical historians encounter the Rigveda, an ancient collection of Sanskrit hymns, and the Sama Veda, a text which begins to discuss the origin of seven shruti (notes) from the sounds of nature. The practice of combining tones in certain sequences and the notation system that was developed during this era is connected to the development of the Indian classical raga form. 'Raga' literally translates as a 'hue' of colour and is a musical method of constructing melody through prescribed conventions. Ragas are linked to different moods and times of the day. Amjad Ali Khan's 'Raga Chhaya Nat' is in the Hindustani (North Indian) chhayanat mode and illuminates his crystalline prowess on the sarod, a stringed lute that is played with a plectrum. Uppalapu Srinivas' song 'Sankari Sankuru' is played on his mandolin in saveri raga, which is said to bring about the mood of pity and was originally composed by one of Carnatic (South Indian) music's greatest figures Syama Sastri (1762-1827). Indian Classical Legends Shivkumar Sharma, Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Brij Bhushan Kabra are heard delicately delivering a Hindustani bhairav raga on 'Ahir Bhairav'. This raga is related to Sikh tradition from northern India and appears in the Guru Granth Sahib (the central religious text of Sikhism). Ravi Shankar's radiant sitar shines bright on the fast-paced track 'Devgiri Bilawal Dhun'. Shankar's name and ascendant international career is now synonymous with Indian classical music. Widely regarded as a musical sage or pandit, his definition of raga touched upon its vast and complex nature, describing it as a 'scientific, precise, subtle and aesthetic melodic form'. Another sitar scholar, Vilayat Khan is heard on 'Dhun Punjabi Ang'. The Khan musical lineage traces all the way back to the court musicians of the Mughal Empire. Father and son duo Allah Rakha and Zakir Hussain enter into percussive playoff on the live track 'Ek Taal'. Tabla virtuouso Zakir Hussain remains grounded by the musical discipline and natural flair he inherited from his father who he regarded as 'a spirit who was created to work for music by God'. Carnatic vocalist Dr M. Balamuralikrishna's marvellously melodic instrument sparkles on 'Sadhathava Pada'. His formidable range and versatile tone mark him out as a legendary singer. He is also credited with popularising the jugulbandi concept in Indian classical music - when two soloists of equal skill perform together. Riverboat Records artist Jyotsna Srikanth contributes 'Annapoorne', a work crafted by the famous Carnatic composer, Muttuswami Dikshitar. The subject matter concerns Annapoorne, the Hindu goddess of nourishment. The raga used is sama, one that denotes peace. Uncover the mystery and beauty of India's verdant classical tradition on this excellent introduction to one of the world's most valuable musical repertoires.

Mute are delighted to announce a special reissue of
The Taste of TG, the 2004 compilation presenting a
beginner's guide to the music of Throbbing Gristle.

Discontent with ho-hum frameworks and facile
    reactionary accouterments, Throbbing Gristle set
out to subvert standard musical performance, and in
the process, lived up to their infamous parliamentary
epithet of "wreckers of civilization." Where punk
sought "to change the nature of rock 'n' roll,"
Genesis P-Orridge and his cohorts were all about
mutating and re-inscribing the very nature of music

The Taste of TG offers 14 tracks culled from the
band's four proper albums, two live tracks, and
"Exotic Functions" from Journey Through a Body,
the group's last studio recording from March
    1981. Packaged with a disturbing, tongue-lashing
cover image by Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson (a
manipulation of a still from the Pier Paolo Pasolini's
1975 film Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma), the
dark clouds of TG's electronic mayhem are here on
full display, with highlights including the confusion
of "Persuasion U.S.A.," the swirling psychedelia of
"His Arm Was Her Leg," and the seductive horror of
"Hamburger Lady." The few stabs that Throbbing
Gristle made at pop music (even if their subject
matter was routinely dark) are here as well, with "Hot
On the Heels of Love," "What a Day," and "United."

Ranked 452/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Music is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released on September 19, 2000 by Maverick Records and distributed by Warner Bros. Records. Following the success of her previous album Ray of Light, she intended to embark in a tour. However, her record company encouraged her to return to the studio and record new music before going on the road. After filming the film The Next Best Thing, she began working on her new album, with producers like Mirwais Ahmadzaï, William Orbit, Guy Sigsworth, Mark Spike Stent and Talvin Singh. Music has an overall electronic and dance-pop vibe. However, the album also contains elements of rock, country and folk, also including the use of vocoder on many tracks, such as Nobody's Perfect.

Upon its release, the album received universal acclaim from critics, who praised Madonna's collaboration with Mirwais Ahmadzaï, as well as the album's musical creativity, however criticizing Madonna's collaborations with William Orbit, despite calling them catchy. It was nominated for a total of five Grammys at the 43rd Grammy Awards, although it eventually won only one award. Music debuted at number one in over 23 countries around the world, and was Madonna's first album to reach the top of the Billboard 200 in 11 years since Like a Prayer (1989), being certified three times platinum the Recording Industry Association of America. The album also peaked number one in the United Kingdom, being certified five times platinum.

    Hall Music

After his last time touring the United States in support of 2009s Dear John, Emil SvanÄngen returned home to Sweden and began to play shows with chamber orchestras throughout the country. As such, he was forced to revisit his earlier material, re-writing and re-arranging these older songs for performance on a grander scale.

This experience had an indelible influence on the writing and recording of the appropriately titled Hall Music, an expansive record that finds SvanÄngen closer to creating the type of orchestral music he has always sought to bring to life on stage (whether hes actually playing with an orchestra or not).

Above all, Hall Music is a study in merging contrasts, an album of impossible pairings. The pacing is simultaneously fast and slow, with gently weaving harmonic structures propelled forward by quickly moving notes. The instrumentation is orchestral and synthesized; organic and invented. A church bell paired effortlessly with horns and an analog keyboard.

Though at first listen it occupies your ears for just over a half-hour, it is an all-consuming sonic affair. It is intimate music that effortlessly fills vast, empty spaces in your head, in your room, in your life, with a grip so delicate yet unyielding that you cant escape it.

Drawing from both of the emotional states of joy and darkness, Hall Music creates its own unique expanse, one youll surely want to re-visit again and again.

Randall Bramblett's latest release, Devil Music, is built upon a foundation of R&B and Soul, but this album spreads its wings with Rock & Roll fervor and a willingness to improvise. Devil Music was inspired by the biography, Moanin' At Midnight: The Life and Times Of Howlin' Wolf . In the book, Hubert Sumlin tells a story of Howlin' Wolf crying all the way from Mississippi to Chicago. Wolf and his band had been on tour when they decided to make a stop at his boyhood home in White Station, Mississippi. Wolf wanted to take his mama money and show her who he'd become. She opened the door, saw who it was and she slammed the door in Wolf's face. She told him she didn't want his money and didn't want anything to do with him. Wolf played "Devil Music."

Categories cannot contain Shinji Masuko. Hes the founder of DMBQ, one of Japans greatest modern psychedelic bands, a respected music and comic reviewer, an astonishing guitarist and a master guitar builder. Hes also been a member of the Boredoms since 2004, having designed and built their notorious seven neck guitar (the Sevena) while acting as the bands principle guitarist.

The idea for Woven Music, Masukos first solo work, was born during preparations for a series of Boredoms concerts in 2009 when Shinji played Kid Millions (of Oneida and Brah Records) some backing tracks hed created for the Boredoms current concert piece, Boadrum. For a short section of the live performance an incredible mass of multi-tracked droning guitars is mixed into the pounding chaos of the 9 person, multi-drummer ensemble. Shiji played Kid Millions this unadorned recording while they were between rehearsals at Shinjis home in Osaka and Kid was astounded, convinced that this music needed to be heard on its own.

Masuko thus inspired, spent the next year carefully crafting these pieces into stand alone works. Woven Music for Blue Steppe is a mass of mostly acoustic instruments while Woven Music for Silver Ocean explores the sound of a throng of electric guitars.

In the last twenty-plus years Masuko has created an astounding body of work with DMBQ and the Boredoms, but hes never released music of such singular beauty and depth. These are meditative, swirling pieces which suggest the resonances of their titles: grand and eternal natural vistas. These are immersive works and completely singular in their scope, Brah is proud to present these unheard compositions to a broader audience.

    Music Night

180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Cut from the Original Analogue EMI Master Tapes at Abbey Road Studios!

When legendary record producer John Culshaw left Decca in 1967 to become Head of Music at BBC Television, he inaugurated and supervised several series of Andre Previn's Music Night, in which Previn would talk informally direct to camera and then turn and conduct the London Symphony Orchestra, whose members were dressed not in evening clothes but in casual sweaters or shirts. The programme attracted unprecedented viewing figures for classical music in the early and mid 1970s in the U.K.

Taking advantage of the television programme's success, EMI recorded Previn and the LSO at the Kingsway Hall, London on 15 December 1974 and 19 & 20 May 1975 in a programme of popular music typical of the series. These recordings were produced and engineered by Christopher Bishop and Christopher Parker respectively.

Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS80 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional playback head. Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards.

    Worship Music

Worship Music is the long-awaited new studio album from Anthrax, one of the four original architects of speed and thrash-metal. Not only is Worship Music Anthraxs first studio release in eight years, but the album marks the return of vocalist Joey Belladonna, whose last studio work with the band was 1990s Persistence of Time. Belladonna is now firmly back in the Anthrax line up with drummer Charlie Benante, guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano, and bassist Frank Bello.

Getting Joey back in as our full-time, permanent singer solidified us as a unit like we hadnt been in years, said Ian. All of us were on the same page creatively, working together, writing together, and becoming a band again.

I get goosebumps listening to the new music, Benante admitted. Scott and Robs guitars are absolutely on fire, Frankie kicks butt on bass, and hearing Joey sing, well, the band sounds like Anthrax, Joeys back and its great.

The 11-track Worship Music was produced by Anthrax, Rob Caggiano and Jay Ruston and recorded over a four-year period at studios in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Belladonnas return to the band prompted some of the songs originally recorded to be re-crafted with fresh lyrics or tweaked to better suit his overall vibe and energy. Some of the songs were completely replaced with brand-new songs and, of course, all have Belladonnas inimitable vocal stamp on them.

Im very happy with the record, it sounds like Anthrax, said Belladonna. There are some interesting twists and turns on it, and plenty of tunes for fans to get their fingers on. I felt very comfortable working with Jay Ruston, and I think everyone brought to the table what they needed to. Now its time for the fans to listen and get what theyve been waiting for. Ill tell you, Im really excited.

    Roxy Music

Simultaneously embracing kitschy glamour and avant-pop, Roxy Music's self-titled debut shimmers with seductive style and pulsates with disturbing synthetic textures. Bryan Ferry tracks out his nightclub glamour-boy persona here and his wandering vibratos sail over Brian Eno's atonal flourishes, but what really makes Roxy Music such a confident, astonishing debut is how these primitive avant-garde tendencies are married to full-fledged songs, whether it's the free-form, structure-bending Remake/Remodel or the sleek glam of Virginia Plain.

    Devil Music

The Men are Rich Samis, Kevin Faulkner, Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro. We created Devil Music in our practice space over a weekend in January.

We wanted to give ourselves something enjoyable to listen to with this record... Something that had our personality in it, not just another record to get reviewed, to get into festivals, to get on tv, to participate in some sort of endless, winless game. This isn't a campaign.

Jordan Lovelace (mem. of Pampers) engineered and recorded Devil Music. Jonathan Schenke (mem. of Eaters and engineer of 100's of records) mastered the sessions on a Neve console in New York. These fine gentlemen knew we were after a raw four track sound. They used our strokes on the tape to get us where we wanted to go. Every record sounds a bit different than you think it will.

Some newer things came along for the ride like cassette cut ups, damaged vocal cords from years of yelling, a saxophone and of course the ten new songs. Some old ideas are still in the mix: the tracks were done live, including the vocals. The packaging/artwork was designed and produced by us.
