On The Threshold Of A Dream

On The Threshold Of A Dream is the fourth album by The Moody Blues, released in 1969. Like most Moody albums, On The Threshold Of A Dream follows a concept. It explores dreams, especially on the second side, which climaxes with the Voyage suite, inspired in part by Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra.

This album is oozing with bright, splashy creative flourishes in two seemingly contradictory directions that somehow come together as a valid whole. On The Threshold Of A Dream provided The Moody Blues with their first British #1 album and remained on the charts for an astonishing 70 weeks.

The Moody Blues are regarded as one of the most innovative and successful rock bands in music history and you only have to put down the needle on this record to be convinced that this bold statement is indeed a fact.

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso From The Original Threshold Records Tapes

In 1986, The Moody Blues' "The Other Side of Life" album and their top charting hit single "Your Wildest Dreams," truly made this one of the most important chapters in their stellar career. Not only did millions of fans support this incredible masterwork, but it also received accolades from the young fans of MTV, which garnered the legends a Billboard Video of the Year award for the smash hit song. "The Other Side Of Life" Lp features nine stunning performances from the talents of Justin Hayward (guitar/vocals), John Lodge (bass/vocals), Patrick Moraz (keyboards & formerly of Yes), Ray Thomas (flutes/vocals) and Graeme Edges (drums/vocals).

The top ten album achieved platinum status, with even more smashes like "Rock and Roll Over You" and the brilliant "The Other Side Of Life", which takes the listener back to their "Days Of Future Passed" into the modern era of "Long Distance Voyager."

Power ballads were always Justin Hayward's specialty as "I Just Don't Care Anymore" chalks up another home run, along with the hard rockin' "Running Out Of Love" both of which made this one of The Moodies most popular albums.

    The Magician's Birthday

Influential 1972 Record Delves into Moody Fantasy Worlds, Thematically Bookends British Band's Demons and Wizards

Organic Production and Tonal Shadings Exude Revered Early 70s Hi-Fi Sound: Reissue Faithfully Replicates Original Gatefold Sleeve and Pressed on Colored Vinyl

Loosely based on a story by Ken Hensley, The Magician's Birthday continues Uriah Heep's adventurous immersion into fantasy worlds at a time when similarly sci-fi pop-culture releases such as Star Wars and Dungeons and Dragons were still years away. Influential in concept, appearance, and sound, the 1972 record remains a thematic bookend to Demons and Wizards, released the same year and, akin to this set, recognized as the group's high-water mark. Both records resonate with a newfound vitality in a 21st century engrossed in a resurgence in comic-book superheroes and gothic tales.

Pursuing a more streamlined, cleaner sound that scales back harder arrangements and accentuates prog-rock and blues elements, the British band accentuates texture and hooks throughout. Uriah Heep attains a dynamic balance between brief, punchy fare (Spider Woman) and spooky, cosmic piano balladry (Echoes in the Dark), with guitarist Mick Box supplying versatile leads and underlying narratives with exceptional tonal shadings. Space-rock synthesizers and subtle xylophones help in further setting the moods. The Magician's Birthday skirts the parody that befell many albums that copied its formula by way of fine-tuned songwriting, David Byron's passionate singing, and cohesive playing. Groups ranging from Iron Maiden to Emerson Lake and Palmer drew from its example.

Boasting arguably the strongest production of Uriah Heep's career, the record exudes early 70s warmth and organic sonics. As soon as your turntable's needle hits the grooves, an era renowned for wood-encased receivers, tube amplifiers, and vintage instruments will emerge in front of your eyes. Whether it's the whirring organ and eerie frequency effects on the crunchy FM radio favorite Sweet Lorraine or the ringing bells on the epic multi-part title track, The Magician's Birthday pulls you into its spell with ethereal power and supernatural charm.

Complete with a faithful replication of the original gatefold sleeve, and replete with dead-quiet surfaces, this Wax Cathedral reissue is pressed at RTI, America's best record plant. Better still, it's on colored vinyl, to boot!

    Communique (45 RPM) (Pre-Order)

Smooth, Effortless, Relaxed, Tuneful, And Deceivingly Simple: Dire Straits' Communique Teems With Technical Perfectionism, Southern-Styled Grooves, And Low-Key Blues

Reference-Level Detail, Depth, Soundstaging, Balance, And Presence: Communique Has Never Sounded Better Than On Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP Version

Mark Knopfler's Mesmerizing Textures, Intricate Lines, And Crisp Tones Pair With Engaging Storytelling And Tight Rhythms: Every Song An Example Of Understated Virtuosity

The performances on Dire Straits' Communique are so smooth and effortless, they were originally criticized for replicating the blueprints of the band's breakout debut. Time, however, has a way of changing perspectives and exposing the truth. More than 35 years after its original release in June 1979, Communique rightfully takes its place as the group's most underrated record - a nine-track set spiked with engaging storytelling, relaxed vibes, and deceiving simplicity.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Communique elevates Dire Straits' sophomore album to an even higher plane. Recorded in the Bahamas by Muscle Shoals veterans Barry Beckett and Jerry Wexler, the songs benefit from a laidback approach that makes guitarist/vocalist Mark Knopfler and company's stellar playing seem even more fluent - particularly when experienced on this collector's 45RPM version, on which the wider grooves allow for more detail retrieval and deeper musical insight.

Knopfler's mesmerizing guitar textures and composed vocals appear as if they're right in front of you, holding court amidst expansive soundstages and deep-black backgrounds. Details, imaging, and presence are on a level associated with the finest audiophile recordings. You'll be hard-pressed to find another LP with cleaner, pinpoint-accurate tones. Mobile Fidelity's LP also brings into transparent view Knopfler's seemingly perfect intricate lines as well as the simpatico accompaniment from his band mates. Whole, lively, and balanced, the bass and drums arrive with a solidity rarely heard on albums of this era. Communique has truly never sounded better.

Of course, the audiophile sonics mean little if the artistic content is lacking. Needless to say, Dire Straits' technical perfectionism and creative elan prevail throughout. Knopfler's penchant for sketching cynical characters is further developed on moody tracks like Where Do You Think You're Going and News, while Wexler's presence at the boards ensures the band keeps the rhythms extra tight. The quartet's low-key blues and swampy, Southern-styled grooves turn every song into an exercise in understated virtuosity.

Refusing to give into excess, magnetic tunes such as Lady Writer and Angel of Mercy split a fine line between insinuating and insisting. The group shows off a combination of control, virtuosity, and tunefulness that harkens back to a rock n' roll's classic period while also pointing the way ahead. Need indisputable evidence of Dire Straits' compositional strengths? Cue up the closing Follow Me Home on this pressing and get lost amidst the peacefulness of the gentle surf and chirping crickets that frame the song. Heavenly.

The sequence serves as additional proof that Communique remains one of the best-sounding rock records ever made.

    Coltrane Jazz

The first album to hit the shelves after Giant Steps, Coltrane Jazz was largely recorded in late 1959, although one of the eight songs ("Village Blues") was done in late 1960. On everything save the aforementioned "Village Blues," Coltrane used the Miles Davis rhythm section of pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb. While not the groundbreaker that Giant Steps was, Coltrane Jazz was a good consolidation of his gains as he prepared to launch into his peak years of the 1960s. There are three standards aboard, but the group reaches their peak on Coltrane's original material, particularly "Harmonique" with its melodic leaps and upper-register saxophone strains and the winding, slightly Eastern-flavored principal riffs of "Like Sonny," dedicated to Sonny Rollins. The moody "Village Blues" features the lineup of McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and Steve Davis on bass; with the substitution of Jimmy Garrison on bass, that personnel would play on Coltrane's most influential and beloved 1960s albums.

    Musicians:

    John Coltrane - tenor saxophone

    Wynton Kelly - piano

    Paul Chambers - bass

    Jimmy Cobb - drums

An 80s Landmark: Ex-Depeche Mode Member Vince Clarke and Vocalist Alison Moyet Create Synthpop Classic

Smoky Blues Purring, Cool Jazz Vibes, Disco-Tinged Beats, and Dancefloor Minimalism Add Up to Electropop Genius

All the Grooves Hit the Low-Frequency Targets: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

Includes Hits Don't Go, Situation, and Only You

The 1980s will forever be remembered for electropop sensations, yet few, if any, are quite as sensational as Yazs Upstairs at Erics. A standard-setting m√Člange of smoky blues singing, jazzy arrangements, disco-tinged beats, and dancefloor vibes, the smash debut fits equally as well at a late-night club as it does in a living room, where the records complexity and exoticism takes listeners hostage. No wonder the 1982 landmark remains one of the decades most essential albums.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this numbered limited edition Silver Label LP breathes with a decongested openness, textural richness, and tonal palette never before experienced on previous analog or digital editions. Alison Moyets inimitable vocals, such a huge part of the records appeal, are dramatically enhanced, her sensual timbre, bittersweet crooning, and knockout range now encompassing the full frequency spectrum and projecting outward in a way that traverses the flatness of the original pressings.

Indeed, her bluesy deliveries are at once elegant and exuberant, and give collaborative partner Vince Clarke free range to construct beat architectures that encompass freewheeling disco, house music, uptempo dance, and chilled-out pop. The former Depeche Mode member also layers on elegant keyboard melodies, establishing contagious hooks and electronic-laced landscapes that preceded the techno explosion and do so with a cooler elegance. Tape loops, random field-noise dialogues, and synth-stroked bass notes add to whats nothing less than a perfect collusion of moody paranoia and soulful warmth.

While a cousin to synth-pop LPs by the likes of the Eurythmics, Soft Cell, OMD, and Depeche Mode, Yazs Upstairs at Erics is singular for its chemistry between Moyet and Clarkeand an insouciant batch of songs high on emotion, style, and substance.

    4 Exclusive Bonus Tracks!

Formed in 1967 by former Motions guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen, Shocking Blue was joined by Cor van der Beek (drums), Klaasje van der Wal (bass) and Mariska Veres as lead vocalist. In 1969 and 1970, the group set the airwaves crackling and enjoyed a worldwide chart success with ''Venus'' (which incorporated the help of studio musician Cees Schrama of Casey & The Pressure Group [MOVLP1132]), followed by several other hit singles.

In 1972, they released their 6th album Attila, a solid Pop album written entirely by Van Leeuwen, anchored by Marika's powerful vocals. Her incredible range and control is at times compared with Jefferson Airplane's singer Grace Slick. Noteworthy tracks on Attila are ''Rock In The Sea'', album opener ''Rattler'' and the moody ''Wait''. This album is denitely worth picking up for a comprehensive view on Holland's biggest export product's early '70s output.

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Manufactured At R.T.I.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early
fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he
had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar
unlike the world has ever known.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly signed the legend to a
long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

From the remainder of the 1960's into the late 1970's, Elvis Presley would release many more hit albums, smash singles and movies
before his untimely passing in 1977. Ever proving that he was indeed on top of his game, RCA Victor awarded their superstar artist and his fans
with the King's fifth greatest hits collection Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5.

Featuring a treasure trove of his most familiar top charting hit singles Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5 went on to achieve gold status and
become one of his most memorable titles in his huge arsenal of masterful rock and roll albums.

Thanks to his finest rock smashes like Burning Love, Moody Blue, In the Ghetto and his landmark Memphis session groover Suspicious
Minds, this collection of Elvis Presley's biggest hits were just what the fans were screaming for, and the entire album was built around the
framework of his rocking trademark sound. The 1984 album also was another blockbuster for The King truly proving once again that his career
was unlike any other in music history.

Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5 also included some of his finest ballads like Kentucky Rain and his monumental NBC TV Comeback Special
smash If I Can Dream. In total, the album showcases ten important Elvis Presley hit recordings which have truly gone on to become definitive
classics by any measure of popular music.

    Gargoyle

Early in 2016, Mark was at home in LA, working on some ideas for what might turn into his next album when he got an email from a friend, an English musician named Rob Marshall, thanking Mark for contributing to a new project he was putting together, Humanist. The pair first met in 2008, when Marshall's former band Exit Calm supported Soulsavers, who Mark was singing with at the time. Now Rob was offering to write Mark some music to return the favour: "I was like, Hey man, I'm getting ready to make a record if you've got anything?'" Mark recalls. "Three days later he sent me *10 things !"

In the meantime, Mark had written 'Blue Blue Sea', a rippling mood piece that he thought might be a more fruitful direction for his new record. "It's almost always how my records start," he explains. "I let the first couple of songs tell me what the next couple should sound like, and it's really the same process when I'm writing words. Whatever my first couple of lines are, tell me what the next couple should be. I've always built things like that, sort of like making a sculpture I guess."

Within an hour, Mark had written words and vocal lines for two of the pieces Rob had cooked up at Mount Sion Studios in Kent and pinged through the virtual clouds to California. Rob's music fitted perfectly with the direction Mark had been pondering: in essence, a more expansive progression from the moody Krautrock-influenced electronica textures of his two previous albums, 'Blues Funeral' and 'Phantom Radio'. Eventually, Rob Marshall would co-write six of the songs on the new Mark Lanegan Band album. "I was very thankful to become reacquainted with him," Mark deadpans.

The remainder of the album was written, recorded and produced by Lanegan's longtime musical amanuensis Alain Johannes at his 11 AD base in West Hollywood. Everything was done and dusted within a month, unusually fast by Lanegan's recent standards. "I definitely feel like I'm a better songwriting than I was 15 years ago," he says. "I don't know if I'm just kidding myself or what, but it's definitely easier now to make something that is satisfying to me. Maybe I'm just easier on myself these days, but it's definitely not as painful a process, and therefore I feel I'm better at it now. But part of the way that I stay interested in making music is by collaborating with other people. When I see things through somebody else's perspective it's more exciting than if I'm left to my own devices."

While sharing roots with its two predecessors, on Gargoyle there's a significant up-shift in the swaggering power load of such keynote songs as Nocturne and Beehive, while the lyrics' tonal palette is more varied. The album title comes from a lyric in Blue Blue Sea - "Gargoyle perched on gothic spire" - and was chosen for its hint of self-deprecation. "I'm most proud of the songs that are atypical to stuff that I've done in the past," says Mark. "So I really like Old Swan, because it's an expression of positivity, which is completely anti-anything I've done before!" He laughs. "Y'know, I haven't played this record for too many people yet. I played it for Greg Dulli, who played on some of it, and he was like, 'Wow, I had to listen to it twice - it sounds like he's having a good time '

It's been a long journey traveled, not always easy, but in 2017, at the age of 52, Lanegan's got the look of permanence about him. Like that gargoyle on the gothic spire .

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract
and signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King of Rock and Roll" trademark
    to his name.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star
in over 35 top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all
time. In 1977, his career ignited even further thanks to his highly successful tour and his much anticipated newly released LP Moody Blue.
Already gaining popularity in advance thanks to two chart single smashes Moody Blue and Way Down, this masterwork album
included a treasure trove of studio and concert performances that captured a very great time in the musical history of this iconic legend.
In addition to the wonderful hit singles aforementioned, The King reaches back to his early Memphis days with a tribute to Johnny Ace
with Pledging My Love and more fifties classics like The Diamonds' Little Darlin' and Jim Reeves' country smash He'll Have To Go.
Even more hits abound with sensational interpretations of Al Hibbler's classic Unchained Melody which also hit the top ten of the
country music charts, a gospel rockin' version of Let Me Be There and a brilliant reading of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice's classic It's
    Easy For You.

Sadly, this was Elvis Presley's final album as he passed away suddenly on August 16, 1977. The world was never the same after the
tragic news was told that day, as hoards of fans journeyed to his beloved Graceland to pay their heartfelt tribute to The King of Rock and Roll.
Elvis Presley's Moody Blue album, of course already a huge seller prior to his death, would go on to become one of his biggest albums
ever, as fans rushed to the stores to buy his final masterwork. Initially pressed on BLUE vinyl, this amazing album has been out of print on

    Scratching The Surface (Pure Pleasure)

The Groundhogs' debut album is a long way from the 'classic' sound of the better-known 'Thank Christ for the Bomb/Split/Who Will Save the World?' trilogy. Indeed, the mellow classic blues through which the band pursues its nine tracks offer the unsuspecting listener little more than a direct blast from the peak of the British blues boom past. Early Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, and Savoy Brown all haunted precisely the same corridors as Scratching The Surface, with only the occasional burst of fuzzed Tony McPhee guitar to distinguish the sonics from the rest of the pack. That said, Scratching The Surface ranks among the finest albums to emerge out of that entire period, a moody shuffle that includes an epic recounting of the Chicago classic Still a Fool and which matches five solid McPhee originals with a pair of blistering contributions from outgoing harmonica whiz Steve Rye. In fact, his Early in the Morning and You Don't Love Me might well be the album's best numbers, a discrepancy that puts one in mind of another of the blues boom's hottest acts, Jethro Tull, and just how much they changed once a founding member (Mick Abrahams) departed. Again, if you arrive at Scratching The Surface in search of a fresh Cherry Red or Status People, you'll probably be disappointed. But if you want to hear the blues sluicing straight out of the Southern England Delta, there are precious few better introductions.

    Musicians:

    • Tony McPhee (guitar, vocal)

    • Steve Rye (harmonica, vocal)

    • Pete Cruikshank (bass)

    • Ken Pustelnik (drums)

Recording: October 1968 at the Marquee Studios, London, by Gery Collins
    Production: Mike Batt

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Way Down In The Jungle Room

RCA Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Way Down In The Jungle Room, a definitive new 2-LP collection of Elvis Presley's last studio recordings.

Way Down In The Jungle Room is an essential and welcome addition for every fan's library. In the mid-1970s, Elvis, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, became another kind of pioneer as one of the world's first major recording artists to create fully-realized professional level records in the intimacy of his own home studio.

With original recordings executive-produced by Elvis Presley with producer Felton Jarvis (who'd helmed most of Elvis' records from 1966-1977), Way Down In The Jungle Room features rare outtakes laid down during two mythic sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Graceland's den -- known as the Jungle Room -- which was converted into a professional caliber recording studio for the purpose of capturing these indelible performances. The outtakes have been newly mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.

For these sessions, Elvis was backed by many members of his longtime touring band including: James Burton (guitar), Ronnie Tutt (drums), David Briggs (keyboards), Glenn D. Hardin (keyboards), Jerry Scheff (bass), Norbert Putnam (bass) and J.D. Sumner & the Stamps (vocals).

In 1976, when the tracks for Way Down In The Jungle Room were cut, Elvis Presley had been an RCA Records recording artist for 20 years, inventing the sound and attitude that defined the very essence of rock 'n' roll. That same year, RCA released The Sun Sessions, the label's first official collection of the electrifying 1954-1955 Elvis recordings that launched his career while transforming the world.

Having entered his 40s, Elvis Presley was evolving as an artist and, rather than bask in the nostalgia of his 1950s watershed recordings, was looking for new ways to express himself musically. Needing to create new sounds for a new era, Elvis Presley--who'd been charting on Country and Adult Contemporary stations -- decided to convert the Hawaiian-themed Jungle Room (a relaxation den in his fabled Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee) into an informal home studio, where he could lay down tracks the way he wanted, outside the budget and scheduling pressures of the professional studios he'd worked in previously. With the help of RCA's mobile recording truck and longtime producer Felton Jarvis and engineer Mike Moran at the board, Elvis tackled a far-ranging mix of country and pop covers (Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, I'll Never Fall in Love Again, Danny Boy, Solitaire) and late-period classics of his catalog, such as Moody Blue and Way Down.

The Outtakes was mixed for this collection at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis and includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a fly-on-the-wall experience of what the sessions were like. With the exception of She Thinks I Still Care, the performances have been sequenced in the order they were recorded.

An arresting, singular chanteuse, Lula Reed beat out 50 other contestants in an audition for Sonny Thompson's band at the Toledo Auditorium. Following her victory, 22-year old Reed trekked down to Cincinnati with future husband Thompson to record for Sid Nathan's King Records. These sessions yielded two Billboard Top Ten R&B singles, "Let's Call It a Day" (#7) and "I'll Drown in My Tears" (#5). These songs plus ten more smokin' sides are collected on Blue and Moody (1958), Reed's one and only solo album. Long out of print, this LP has become a holy grail for blues and R&B enthusiasts, who routinely pay princely sums for the few copies in circulation. Once again, it's Sundazed to the rescue! Painstakingly mastered from the original analog session tapes and pressed at R.T.I., Sundazed presents this extremely rare LP on pristine 180-gram vinyl.

classic songwriting - but the heart, while
    indulging his admiration of demented
current bands like Fiery Furnaces and
Frog Eyes. Expect to hear influences from
the Moody Blues, Tubeway Army, Wings,
Eno, the Stranglers, 10cc and other
    greats, all filtered through Newman's
warped worldview. A more mature but still
enormously fun record that will see more
touring and promotion than ever before.

    Things Are Getting Better

This title provides ample evidence why Cannonball Adderley (alto sax) is considered one of the masters of his craft. Here he joins forces with Modern Jazz Quartet co-founder Milt Jackson (vibes) to create a variety of sonic atmospheres. They are backed by the all-star ensemble of Wynton Kelly (piano), Percy Heath (bass), and the one and only Art Blakey (drums).

The moody Blues Oriental opens the set with Jackson immediately diving in with his trademark fluid runs and shimmering intonation. Adderley counters with a light and lively line that weaves between the rhythm section. The optimistic Things Are Getting Better is a good-natured romp as the co-leads trade and cajole each other into some downright rollicking exchanges. This directly contrasts with the sultry Serves Me Right, which allows the combo members to demonstrate their collective musical malleability. The interaction between Adderley and Jackson sparkles as they entwine their respective playing with an uncanny singularity of spirit. The cover of Dizzy Gillespie's Groovin' High contains another spirited performance with some thoroughly engaging improvisation, especially during Adderley's voracious solos. Sidewalks of New York bops freely as Jackson unleashes some sublime licks against a hearty and equally boisterous sax. Adderley's Sounds for Sid demonstrates his uncanny ability to swing with a strong R&B vibe. With drop-dead timing and profound instrumental chops, this cut is undoubtedly one of the best from Adderley's earliest canon. The album concludes with a jumping reading of Cole Porter's Just One of Those Things.
