    The Best Of Spirit

The Mountain 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues On Friday Music!
The Legendary Greatest Hits ..first Time On Audiophile Vinyl!

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso At Friday Music Studios.

    Manufactured By R.T.I.

In 1974, the good folks at Epic Records compiled an amazing
overview of Spirit's most memorable and fan driven favorites simply
titled The Best Of Spirit. This collection featured the brilliant and sorely
missed vocals and guitar work of Randy California, the rockin' lead
vocals of Jay Ferguson, the driving bass and vocals of Mark Andes,
the powerful drums of the late great Ed Cassidy, plus the keyboard
wizardry of the late John Locke.

This mammoth collection had something for everybody as it culled
tracks not only from the four superior albums on Ode and Epic Records,
but it also included the rare hit 45 single 1984. Therefore, a good
majority of the hits and definitive Spirit tracks are included on this career
compendium of songs which will forever stand the test of time.
Their most familiar songs from The Twelve Dreams Of Dr.

Sardonicus and The Family That Plays Together are featured with tracks
like Nature's Way, I Got A Line On You, Morning Will Come and
Animal Zoo. Plus even more Spirit classics are included like Fresh
Garbage, Uncle Jack and Dark Eyed Woman.

The legendary L.A. sound of Spirit is also highlighted with massive
smash hits like Mr. Skin and more rockers like Prelude: Nothing To Hide
    and Mechanical World.

The music of Spirit has made them one of the most loved bands of
all time. Their concerts were trendsetting events, their albums and songs
were of legendary proportion, and the cosmic energy between each
individual member is of unequalled dimension.

Friday Music is honored once again to be the torchbearer for
some of the finest music ever recorded, and it is with much honor to
announce the first time audiophile vinyl release of The Best Of Spirit.
This audiophile event is mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso and
features all of the original versions of their finest recordings ever.
For this special 40th Anniversary limited edition release, we are
also including for the first time, the original LP artwork elements not seen
in years, now in a gatefold format, which will truly enhance your hours
of listening enjoyment. And as always, we include a protective vinyl
sleeve for the fine album cover and poly-lined sleeve for the audiophile
vinyl disc to help keep your musical investment in mint shape.
Stay tuned to Friday Music as we will be releasing more of Spirit's
classic recordings on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl and compact disc in
    the very near future.

    Die Healing (Awaiting Repress)

"Die Healing" featuring original SAINT VITUS vocalist Scott Reagers! This is essential doom!!!!

Recommended if You Like: BLACK SABBATH, TROUBLE, COUNT RAVEN, CANDLEMASS, THE OBSESSED, HIGH ON FIRE, SLEEP, BARONESS, MASTODON, SIR LORD BALTIMORE

Die Healing is a pivotal point in Vitus' discog; not only their very last before they temporarily ended their relentlessly classic doom metal album releases with a thirteen year hiatus, but their third recording with Scott Reagers, who helped make the eponymous debut, Hallow's Victim and EP The Walking Dead such milestones of doom. And what a way to go out. Many will tell you this is actually Saint Vitus' finest moment, and although I favour the debut and Wino's career zenith Born Too Late above it, there is no doubt it deserves as solid a place in the pantheon of doom as Nightfall or Master Of Reality or In The Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend.

The band's sound and instrumentation is class without question. The guitar tone saw a slight departure from the fuzz prevalent on Wino-albums (including the 2012 opus Lillie: F-65), with something more of an electric edge familiar to C.O.D. Fret not, the tone is still plenty burly, and of course massively appropriate for the toking of vaporous substances.

The guitar solos are likewise a little clearer - though of course solos like on 'One Mind' and 'Return Of The Zombie' have that inimitable Chandler scaling chaos in spades, squeaking like a dozen metal detectors malfunctioning. In general though the album's sound gives the feeling of the band moving forward with the sound established on the underappreciated, Chritus Linderson-assisted C.O.D., while welcoming their original singer back into the fold as easily as if he'd never left. It comes together brilliantly.

What cements the album's place atop the pile of '90s Vitus releases is that it's a lot more solid than V and C.O.D. in terms of songs, chock full of highlights with nary a skippable track. 'Dark World' heralds absolutely no messing about, a timeless slow burn Saint Vitus classic to get you going. Reagers unlocks his trademark moon-touched howls, boosted here with a gruffness and depth that must have come with age. He can still hit the unnerving highs that made the debut such a unique piece. Not to mention his more aghast and tragic-heroic style is accompanied by a lyrical shift toward tales of horror and myth, adding further colours of yore to the band's solidified musical approach (although 'In The Asylum' is as brilliantly witty a tale of human disintegration as anything Wino has written for Vitus).

Some of the great knells peeling off Chandler's guitar in the main riff of 'Let The End Begin' are highlights for Vitus' entire career. It climaxes with a great rocking section, splashed with sumptuous guitar and bass solos, in a move actually quite uncharacteristic for the band, who tended to steer between leadweight trawling songs and more rambunctious cuts. The eerie build on 'Sloth' is another of the band's best moments. The entire song, with its off-kilter structure and wailing chorus, is an example of just how muscular the band's creative fibers were at the time. 'Return of the Zombie', a quasi-sequel to the classic, shifty song off the debut of course, makes its mark with a crazed vocal performance and some spooky effects. And of course there's more, I've just listed a few real standouts but the album is too generous in its blessings for them to be exhaustively listed.

It's just a really solid album that builds on all the best things the band had done to date while keeping the songwriting fresh. What a swansong this was. This album is the reason Lillie: F-65 had such vast expectations from me. A must have.

    Reality Testing (Awaiting Repress)

The hyper-chromatic music of Matt Cutler marks him out as a true impressionist; as Lone, he drizzles brightly coloured melody through his tracks with all the reflexive skill of a master painter daubing inks and pigment across paper. On Cutler's fifth Lone album, Reality Testing, released on R&S, he sends notes and chords rippling delicately into space before allowing them to disperse, each oozing beautifully away into the background fabric of the music. Combined with rhythms that ebb and flow, shifting from propulsive club constructions to beatific coastal hip-hop, it's a sensuous, immersive, heady experience, and easily his most accomplished and self-contained work to date.

    Master Of My Make Believe

Santigold is Santi White: an artist whose perseverance relies on invention, a champion who survives off her own skill and faith. She is a major muse watched by the inspired world, an in categorical performer who collapses time and genre with one hand guided by tradition, while the other hand carves out a shining future. Santigold is neither calm nor mayhem, but from her lungs burst every color in between.

After four years of hide and seek in which blogs blew up at the sudden release of any track with her name attached to it, Santigold returns in a moment of global aggression and vulnerability. Honing in on the hyper-media cult of personality, in her unmistakable voice she asks the listener: Into what fantasy do you hurl yourself as you gaze into the glow of your machine? The answer to this question is central to what drives Master of My Make-Believe, her latest work to be released this spring on Atlantic Records.

As an antidote against self-celebratory status updates in a climate where the focus on fame outweighs a days emotions, Master of My Make-Believe summons pop culture zombies back to life. This is sound proof of an artist on a diligent journey, measuring the power of individual mood against social clamor. Sifting through a wondrous wreckage of airplay, upload, and anguish, Santigolds talent lies in filtering reality through freakdom, to find in desire a timeless spark of raw magic.

Anyone caught referring to Master of My Make-Believe as a sophomore effort is only half right. Though relatively fresh as Santigold, Santi Whites history of writing, production, and performance stretch beyond the centurys flip. Her collaboration with the industrys most recognized and respected talent is something continuous and wide reaching, making her musical lineage all the much richer. Declared Best Breakthrough Artist by NME in 2008 and Pop Music Vanguard by ASCAP in 2009, the voice that defines Santigold is as complex as the faces that pack a subway car, as intimate and honest as conversation on a weathered stoop.

Through chopped pianos, the clink of glass bottles, and the peaking blast of motorcycle engines, Master of My Make-Believe accounts for 21st century details of life from the hearts center to the minds periphery. In her pen and in her voice, the breadth of substance presented in Santigolds newest songs is immediate and complex. There are valleys here wherein the drudge of daily living is met with caution and confronted by mortality, but underneath it all there is the celebration of each persons power and vision to fight toward what they believe. Consider this your invitation.

The Dance Of Reality: Original Soundtrack

LP Album Jacket Includes a Number of Production Stills from the Film

    Mastered by Joe Yannece

Lacquer Cutting on LP by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering

The release in 2014 of The Dance of Reality marked the
triumphant return, after a 23-year hiatus, of Alejandro
Jodorowsky, the visionary Chilean filmmaker behind cult
classics El Topo and The Holy Mountain. In the radiantly
visceral autobiographical film, a young Jodorowsky (played by
his son, Brontis) is confronted by a collection of compelling
characters that contribute to his burgeoning surreal
consciousness. Adding to the autobiographical nature of the
work, the film was shot in Tocopilla, a coastal town on the
edge of the Chilean desert, where the filmmaker was born in
1929. Blending his personal history with metaphor,
mythology, and poetry, The Dance of Reality reflects Jodorowsky's
philosophy that reality is not objective but rather a "dance" created by our own imaginations.

Jodorowsky's films have always placed a special emphasis on music-his soundtracks rank as among
the most daring and fascinating in film history-and for The Dance of Reality, Jodorowsky tapped his own
son Adan Jodorowsky (a.k.a. "Adanowsky"), whose work as a composer and performer (with Devendra
Banhart among others) has won him an international following in his own right. Adanowsky's score is
alternately lush and comical, blending brooding string passages with hypnotically repeating piano figures
that create a mood that is at times foreboding, at times wistful and, as is always the case with a score to
    a Jodorowsky film, surreal.

As part of its continuing association with ABKCO Music & Records, Inc., Real Gone Music is proud to
present the complete soundtrack to The Dance of Reality on LP, mastered by Joe Yannece and
with lacquer cutting by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering. The album jacket includes a number of production stills from the film. Alejandro Jodorowsky's tradition of
remarkable film soundtracks lives on with The Dance of Reality.

    Choice of Weapon

The Cult's newest album Choice of Weapon is the follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release Born Into This which Mojo magazine called "a wholehearted, utopian and irrefutably exciting record." Long-time Cult collaborator and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush), who produced one of the band's most successful albums in the platinum-certified Sonic Temple, put the finishing touches on the foundations that were laid by co-producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality).

The record was written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, the California high desert, and the band's Witch Mountain studios in the Hollywood Hills between July and December of 2011. The new release features founding members Astbury on vocals and Duffy on guitars, with drummer John Tempesta and bassist Chris Wyse. "We have had the opportunity to work with two of the most influential and talented producers in the world today," said Astbury. "They pushed us beyond our comfort zone, and helped us craft Choice of Weapon.'"

The album is aimed at the heart of The Cult's loyal following. It reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives. "We went deeper, we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best," added Duffy, "and I feel this is one of our best records, maybe the best."

'Live & Louder,' The Dead Daisies' highly-anticipated live outing, is set for release on Spitfire Music / SPV and perfectly captures the awesome vibe of their supreme, sweat-drenched, roof-raising live sets, recorded on a heady high at the end of an unbelievable 2016.

    Inventions & Dimensions (Awaiting Repress)

Herbie Hancock was only 23 when he recorded the amazing Inventions And Dimensions, his third Blue Note album. While Hancock had already recorded Takin' Off and My Point Of View, he had quickly developed his own innovative style, and was about to become a member of the Miles Davis Quintet. Inventions and Dimensions is unlike anything he had previously created. Hancock manages the impossible feat of performing music that is both free form and very accessible. In teaming up with bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Willie Bobo and percussionist Osvaldo "Chihuahua" Martinez, Hancock might have been expected to play Latin jazz, but in reality this innovative album has Hancock freely improvising all of the pieces. He creates music that has melodies, drama, development, exciting moments and logical if unexpected conclusions. His performances may sound arranged and worked out in advance but Hancock made it all up on the spot, quite an accomplishment. Very few other pianists in the history of jazz could do this, but Herbie Hancock made it all seem effortless, creating a timeless gem as easily as most people breathe.

    The Hunt Begins

2007: The cover art of the first record Sacred Bones ever released depicted an
androgynous wild banshee wearing warpaint, clad all in leather and animal
bones, holding a sacrificial knife pointed at the sky. This debut single was The
Hunt's lone statement. The songs were a visceral pulsation, etched in echo.
The band appeared veiled in black scarves, painted faces bringing in devotees of
the waves of old: post punk, darkwave, deathrock and the like. The sick fiends
that followed, followed to the end; as bright as their flame shone, as dark was
their demise. London, structure fires, and mental institutions all played a part in
the downfall of the originators of 21st century redskin darkwave.

2009: After multiple tumultuous attempts at recording a full length The Hunt
decamped to their collective hometown, Boston, to record the ultimate
document of their time on earth. Buses begat buses, couches begat couches, and
slowly the songs began to come together as they should have all these passing
years. On the edge of perfection their time was cut short and this document sat
for years, untouched by human hands.

2013: The Hunt lives on. In honor of both the first and one hundredth release,
we will finally see and hear the toils of New York's most enigmatic post
punk band of recent. Ian Danger, percussive wunderkind; Mike O'Brien, whose
    four strings drew blood nightly; Christian Kount, master of negative space;
and Jasper McGandy, the man who's hopes for a darker future led them towards
a reality we only now have the honor of witnessing. After all these years the
time has come. The Hunt Begins.

Live - That Hot Pink Blues Album

"That Hot Pink Blues Album's biggest accomplishment is the mere reality that it plays like more of a victory lap than it does a cash grab - Hot pink? Hot damn!" - Pop Matters

"Keb' Mo' is one of the most authentic and appealing performers of his generation, and that's why a double-live album from him is such an unqualified joy." - The Daily Vault

"That Hot Pink Blues Album is a satisfying summation of Keb' Mo's career to date, every bit as warm, personable, and observant as the man himself. Let's hope there's another dozen albums waiting up ahead." - The Daily Vault

Over the past two decades, Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist and contemporary blues artist, Keb' Mo', has cultivated a reputation as being a modern master of American roots music through the understated excellence of his live and studio performances. In his newest release, KEB' MO' LIVE - THAT HOT PINK BLUES ALBUM, Keb' Mo' delivers some of his best material in the most authentic form, through live recordings.

Recorded throughout the past year while on tour, and produced by Casey Wasner, the double-disc album features 16 live recorded songs from Keb' Mo's extensive catalog. Several of the tracks are songs off his most recent album, BLUESAmericana, which garnered Keb' Mo' a 2015 Blues Music Award from the Blues Foundation, three 2015 Grammy award nominations and multiple other achievements. Leading up to the release of the album, Keb' Mo' will make various media appearances in support of this highly anticipated new release. Following the release of KEB' MO' LIVE - THAT HOT PINK BLUES ALBUM, Keb' and his three-piece band will take their routinely sold-out show to fans across North America and Europe throughout their tour; playing in theaters and a variety of venues across the country.

A portion of the proceeds from the album will be donated to Playing For Change Foundation, an organization Keb' has been involved with since it's inception.

    Symmetry In Black

First time available on vinyl - Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Crowbar with the release of Symmetry in Black

In a genre as prone to flights of fancy as heavy metal, Crowbar have always felt like a grounding presence, anchored to reality with their seemingly impossible heaviness. Keeping up their good works, the New Orleans sludge metal masters return with their tenth album, Symmetry in Black, an exercise in consistency that proves the band is still up to the task after 25 years of brooding sonic devastation. The album finds the band shifting gears from the pummeling assault of 2011's excellent Sever the Wicked Hand to something slower (though with Crowbar that's a fairly relative term).

Some things haven't changed, however, namely the powerful playing and singing of Kirk Windstein, whose anguished bellows and penchant for lumbering riffs continue to act as Crowbar's bellwether. While this consistency has been key to their longevity, what really makes Crowbar special is their relatability. When other bands are off telling tales of demons and black rituals, Windstein and company take on earthly woes like addiction and fearing our own mortality. Despite their delivery over a brooding, glacially paced riff, lines like Reject the thought of losing what is mine/Ascend above your own demise, from Reflection of Deceit, feel like they're meant to empower listeners rather than bring them down. Symmetry in Black is an album that shows us we don't have to waste our time fighting imaginary enemies, because the real world is plenty full of darkness that, much like Crowbar themselves, is always there.

    Commune

There is no direct association between mysterious Swedish
psychedelicists GOAT and Argentinian master of magical realism, Jorge
Luis Borges. Yet their mission appears to be the same. Borges generated
his ideas from historical curiosities across the globe-knife duels on the
South American plains, Middle Eastern heresiarchs, Chinese pirates-and
twisted them into fictions that blurred the lines between footnotes and
outright fantasy. GOAT's sound is the sonic embodiment of this principle,
working heavy psych-rock, Nigerian afrobeat, German krautrock, Anatolian
funk, and a host of other micro-niches into a hallucinatory celebration
    of rock's diverse manifestations.

Despite the success of GOAT's critically-acclaimed 2012 debut, World
Music, the individual identities involved remain shrouded in mystery:
GOAT performs in masks, and spokespersons maintain that the group
is simply an ongoing multi-generational collective of musicians from the
isolated, Swedish locality of Korpilombolo, a junction of native Sami
people, Scandinavian settlers, and the rare wayfaring outsiders. Beyond
that, GOAT divulges very little. It's as if GOAT are taking cues from Borges'
short story "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius," wherein a clandestine enclave
of intellectuals attempt to create a new reality by inserting articles on a
fictitious, puzzling state into modern encyclopedias. Borges' secret
society wanted their heretical ideologies to infiltrate common thought
through an invented past; GOAT wants to revitalize the communal
experience of rock music by creating an alternate origin story.

Ultimately, it is GOAT's music that speaks the most about them, and
on Commune GOAT deliver a heavy dose of acidic grooves, hypnotic
incantations, and serpentine guitar lines, building on the much-lauded
sound of World Music to explore new territories. Starting with the layered
percussive groove, Eastern guitar flourishes, and convoking vocals of
"Talk To God," Commune re-establishes the trance-inducing rhythms
and exotic blaze of guitar that characterized World Music. From there,
the album launches into darker and more propulsive territories,
occasionally emerging for breaths of transcendental '60s psych-pop and
    driving proto-metal fuzz.

"GOAT is mainly a symbol of sacrifice. To sacrifice the individual for
the collective good. To become one with the rest of humanity and
universe," said an unnamed GOAT conspirator in a rare correspondence.
With that philosophy, GOAT is propagating their crossbred music and
mysticism by sharing Commune with the world. And, while we'll never
see GOAT's faces on the cover of a glossy magazine, their intoxicating
conjurations are poised to infiltrate our collective psyche with the
subversive magical allure of a Borgesian fable.

    New York Tendaberry (Pure Pleasure)

Dirt and grit, sweetness and sorrow, this is New York Tendaberry, Laura Nyro's masterpiece. This tapestry of great beauty and painful images is not for the pop-oriented crowd who only are familiar with the aurally digestible versions of Save the Country and Time and Love sung by other people. Laura herself had a voice both comforting and full of despair, and both those songs are woven into this complex journey. I always imagine it as twenty-four hours in the life of this street-wise, New Yorker, where she is both observer and subject. She wakens as her man leaves (You Don't Love Me When I Cry), yanks us by the hand to follow her down to the subway to sing joyful harmonies which echo and blend to the sound of trains (Mercy on Broadway), and then to Gibsom Street. If you are soft, then you will shiver, they hang the alley cats on Gibsom Street. Finally, in the languid, deep night, a brief celebration from her terrace as firecrackers break, dust, and skate. But the reality of her world takes over as she gazes below on humanity which joins for life through silver tears (New York Tendaberry).

Listen to the final song, New York Tendaberry. Laura Nyro's incredible vocals and imagery are of this time, now. It was of that time, and will be forever treasured by those who love and be willing to listen to this exceptional artist.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Breakfast At Tiffany's (Speakers Corner)

Long nights, dizzy parties, a variety of men-friends, and breakfast standing before the window display of the famed jewellery company govern the life of the dazzling Holly Golightly, who has in reality a very ordinary name and poverty-stricken background. All the more rich is the musical carpet that Henry Mancini lays beneath the feet of the exotic, wealthy-husband-seeking socialite. The tender, plaintive worldwide hit Moon River apart, Mancini and his Hollywood musicians mix a sugar-sweet sound with enough acrid elements to glaze over the capricious lady's character. The cool big band sound is spiced with a bold trumpet solo (The Big Blow Out) and mellow violins with a suspiciously tame male choir (Breakfast At Tiffany's). As is well known, there is a great deal of dancing in the film, including a number with a Latin-American rhythm (Latin Golightly), and a grooving mambo (Loose Caboose). At the end of the film even the Moon River swells to become a bubbling cha-cha, as though to say that a 'happy end' must in no way sound sentimental.

A further Mancini mix -The Pink Panther soundtrack (RCA LSP 2795) - is also available from Speakers Corner.

    Brahms: Alto Rhapsody (Speakers Corner)

Johannes Brahms: Alto Rhapsody, Song Of Destiny / Gustav Mahler: Songs Of A Wayfarer

The Alto Rhapsody, Song Of Destiny and Song Of A Wayfarer. Each of these three vocal compositions is unique in its expression and construction, yet the frayed emotional worlds of all three works are connected by a multitude of fine threads. The Alto Rhapsody, which Brahms wrote as a wedding gift for Clara Schumann's daughter Julie, in whom he was himself in love, demonstrates with almost Wagnerian weight the anger that the disappointed Brahms must have felt while composing. The Song Of Destiny too, with its sonorous E major waves of harmony, soon announces in C minor the finiteness of existence as Hölderin's poem demands. That finally a hopeful, conciliatory - though unsure - moment lingers is reflected in the musical means. Many emotions and vagaries are emulated in Mahler's song cycle. The journeyman sets off on his wanderings in order to forget his unhappy liaison and strides through the ups and downs of mixed emotions and painful heartache. Drumrolls and march rhythms reflect the real world and sounds of nature, dissonances and a change between major and minor keys show the way from dreams, reality and feelings. The recording with Mildred Miller and the Columbia Symphony Orchestra under Bruno Walter has achieved reference status and is sure of a place in the TAS Super LP List given out by The Absolute Sound.

    Holographic Violence

In the five years since Grave Babies' debut album Deathface was released, founder Danny Wahlfeldt has been handling all songwriting and recording duties for the Seattle-based band, with invaluable help from friends in performing their material live. For their newest album entitled Holographic Violence, Wahlfeldt chose a different path, causing a significant change in the band's overall sound.

Holographic Violence is Grave Babies' second Hardly Art full-length after Crusher (2013), and further explores the themes of nihilism, the pending doom of mankind, and shaming humanity, which the band has been building their gloomy reputation on since the beginning. This time however, instead of recording everything in his basement, Wahlfeldt enlisted the help of Bryce Brown (Crypts) on bass and Mark Gajadhar (Blood Brothers, Past Lives) on drums in the early stages of recording. The songs on Holographic Violence fell into place in Mark's studio on Orcas Island, Washington. Mixing was handled by Matt Bayles (Alice in Chains, Mastodon), with final mastering by Chris Common (Chelsea Wolfe, Mars Volta). As a final touch, Claire Haranda was added to the lineup on keyboards and synth to round out the band's live sets. By leaving the edgy, lo-fi haze of earlier output in the past, these songs have clarified what the music of Grave Babies has to offer the future.

That is, if humanity has a future?

"I wanted it to be a last cry for sanity going into our dystopian future," Wahlfeldt says about Holographic Violence. Grave Babies has long held a crush on morbidity, death, and corruption, building a romantic relationship around the juxtaposition of the dark contextual matter with hook-heavy songs rife with pretty melodies and harmonies. The 11 new songs on Holographic Violence present this powerful combination from a science fiction perspective, begging the question: has our imagination outpaced the confines of our reality as we keep going down the same path, believing there's hope? Playing anthemic pop songs with a strange male choir-esque sound to the vocals adds a distinctly cultish feel to the abrasive exercise of figuring out if it is possible to circumvent destructive human predispositions.

Thus, Holographic Violence is a lesson in authenticity as we must look deeper into the subject matter for the finer details, instead of skimming the surface and believing we have things right at a mere glance. Maybe we just have to come to terms with the fact that the things that we're constantly running away from are inherent in ourselves and inescapable? Grave Babies mission is not to find the answers to these questions, but to challenge the listener and on Holographic Violence, their uncompromising aesthetic makes the suffering a little prettier.

    Briefcase Full Of Blues

Celebrate The New Year With Their Classic # 1 Mega Platinum Debut Album

    First Time Audiophile Vinyl Release

Mastered Impeccably From The Authorized & Original1978 Atlantic Records Tapes By Joe "i Got The Blues" Reagoso

After their phenomenal success on Saturday Night Live and a number of smash comedy movies already in
their resume, John Belushi and Dan Akroyd dove headfirst into their love of soul, blues and r & b and began
the Blues Brothers duo, netting them a number one album, top hit singles, a box office smash and acclaim
from purists and blues lovers from all over with their first LP, Briefcase Full Of Blues.

Recorded in 1978 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, the late great John Belushi and Dan
Akroyd opened a set before comedian and good friend Steve Martin. To the crowd's amazement, the duo
blasted them a blistering rock 'n' blues performance which was captured on tape for their first album Briefcase
Full Of Blues. They later appeared on SNL and the rest as they say is history, as this stunt became reality in no
time and thus began a short lived but amazing piece of rock and blues history.

Released during the holiday season, the album became a number one smash and netted two smash singles
with the classic nod to the Stax sound with Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" as well as the '50s doo wop
    classic, "Rubber Biscuit."

With a stellar musician lineup of classic R & B and traditional blues purists like Steve Cropper and Duck
Dunn from Booker T. & The M.G.'s, Chess Records sideman to the stars Matt "Guitar " Murphy,
saxophone champion Tom Scott and a handful of New York City's finest on the reeds, rounded out with Paul
Shafer on keys, The Blues Brothers were a force to reckon with as their albums would go on to sell in the
millions making them one of the biggest bands in the late seventies into the eighties.

With a stunning set list of righteous blues and soulful interpretations, this masterpiece is filled with nonstop classics like the hard boppin' opener Hey Bartender, blues belters like Junior Wells' "Messin' With The
Kid" and Big Joe Turner's "Flip Flop Fly," plus southern rockers like Delbert McClinton's "'B" Movie Box Car
    Blues."

In addition to these legendary performances, this unique concert recording yielded more with powerhouses
like the smash I Don't Know, King Floyd's Groove Me, and the blues thriller Shot Gun Blues.

Friday Music is no stranger to the blues. Therefore, it is with much honor to announce the first installment
in our Blues Brothers 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with their brilliant masterwork Briefcase Full Of Blues.

(John Lee Hooker/ Muddy Waters/Johnny Winter) at Friday Music Studios and Capitol Records in Hollywood,
    CA.

To enhance your Jake and Elwood experience even further, this stunning limited anniversary edition also
includes the original album cover art, Miami Mitch Glazer's funny liner notes as well as the 12 brilliant tunes
you will truly forever enjoy in the audiophile vinyl domain.

    Manufactured By R.T.I.

In 1973, the good folks at Windfall and Columbia Records compiled
an amazing overview of Mountain's most memorable and fan driven
favorites simply titled The Best Of Mountain. This collection featured the
brilliant lead vocals and dangerous guitar work of Leslie West, the sorely
missed bass guitar, lead vocals and production of Felix Pappalardi (Cream),
the driving keyboards of Steve Knight and the heavy metal drums of Corky
    Laing.

This mammoth collection had something for every one of its devoted
fans as it culled tracks not only from the band's output on Windfall like their
earth shattering smashes Mississippi Queen and Nantucket Sleighride, but
it also included the rare LP edit version of Roll Over Beethoven. Therefore,
a good majority of the hits and definitive Mountain tracks are included on
this career overview of songs which will forever stand the test of heavy metal
    time.

Their most familiar songs from Climbing!, Flowers Of Evil and
Nantucket Sleighride are featured with hard rockers like Never In My Life,
Don't Look Around and Crossroader. Plus even more Mountain classics are
included like Tanuta, The Animal Trainer And The Toad and The Boys In The
    Band.

The hard rocking progressive sound of Mountain is also highlighted
with massive hits like their definitive interpretation of Jack Bruce & Pete
Brown's Theme For An Imaginary Western and their stellar tribute to the
Woodstock nation with the legendary For Yasgur's Farm.

The music of Mountain has made them one of the most loved bands
of all time. Even to this day, their concerts are important events worldwide,
their albums and songs are of legendary proportion, and the undying energy
between each of its individual members is second to no one.

    What's Going On (Pure Pleasure)

In 2006, exactly a year after Katrina, in the aftermath of a vicious natural disaster that displayed the incompetence of the Crescent City's infrastructure, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Government, they addressed the tragedy in the only way they know how, by re-creating the same kind of bewilderment and anger that Marvin Gaye felt and witnessed in 1971 by issuing their own take on Gaye's classic album What's Goin' On. This is a question that is proved all the more poignant given the efforts of an entire region trying not only to rebuild homes and businesses, but trying to preserve a culture as this recording was released. The Dirty Dozen recruit a number of vocalists to help out on the hinge tunes. The samples of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's voice in the aftermath of the hurricane usher in the brass slip-sliding along the dark funky overtones of Gaye's signature tune. Guitarists Doug Bossi and Ben Keeler dig into the groove, as does drummer Terence Higgins and keyboardist/producer Anthony Marinelli, as Chuck D raps the refrain in the context of modern history, the disaster, and the ineptitude and even hostility of a government who wages war and ignores domestic problems. It's a news report from the front lines as the horns cut the melody, the harmony, and the deep, steamy funk groove. What's Happening Brother, closes the funk from the inside, turning the groove back in on itself not only playing the rage, but echoing it in the grain of Bettye LaVette's vocal, which dares to spit out the truth with questions and observations in the pain of a first person narrative. The airy arrangement of Flyin' High (In the Friendly Sky) is nearly mournful, nostalgic for a more innocent time, but is all the more poignant for that longing. The deep tribal drums Mardi Gras Indian-style, with the skronky saxophones, tight guitar groove, and screaming narrative in Save The Children give way to the smoothness of Gaye's melody. It's a bewildered tune, sad with undercurrents of rage. Ivan Neville's arrangement for God Is Love is a stunner, full of deeply imaginative hues and colors and gospel grooves. G. Love helps out on Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology), where the musicality in Gaye's vocal disappears but is supercharged in the horn charts, and Love's vocal sounds confused, displaced, out of time against the instruments. Right On is both militant and celebratory. It's got the funk, but it's also got gospel, rock, and deep soul blaring from the trombones and the repetitive riff in the rest of the brass section. Guru from Gang Starr cuts out from the moody, spectral introduction of Inner City Blues, when Higgins drums play counter to Kirk Joseph's deep blues sousaphone on the bassline. Frustration is everywhere and the horns point fingers to this truth which Guru lays out: that today is the same and perhaps even more so than it was in Gaye's time. The desolation in Gaye's lyric isn't lost but it is fleshed out over the chart so that they are merely the ghosts from the past preaching and exhorting in this new generation. Never has party music sounded so poignant, so utterly damning and hopeful and unbowed. This is the next step in the Homecoming that was a funeral for a friend; this is the aftermath, the sound of angry resurrection coming out with the sun, one where the revolution may be televised but bursts out of the edges in the screen and makes itself known by the medium understood by the people who have to live its realization. With killer grooves that take no prisoners, What's Goin' On is the most fitting tribute yet to Gaye, because not only does it prove the timelessness of the music itself, it echoes that what is indeed goin' on (Gaye's dedication to Detroit as its decline became a reality with no onlookers interested in doing anything) is even more true today than it was in 1971.

The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart

It was the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil that launched the ascent of their native sons in SEPULTURA (Portuguese for "grave") in 1983 with a trajectory unsuspectingly aimed at the worldwide metal music scene. A band with humble economic beginnings whose musical identity was forged in the context of living through Brazil's authoritarian military dictatorship, SEPULTURA would go on to become Brazilian ambassadors to the metal world, revered master architects of the death/thrash genre, and the most successful heavy metal band from the Federal Republic of Brazil.

When SEPULTURA experienced a line-up change in the mid-1990s that was widely covered by the metal press around the world, remaining members recruited American Derrick Green in 1997 to front the band, a position the Cleveland, Ohio native has held for the past fifteen years and counting. This past June, long-time guitarist Andreas Kisser (who joined in1987), original bassist Paulo Jr., and drum prodigy Eloy Casagrande, SEPULTURA entered the studio in Venice, California with renowned producer Ross Robinson (KORN, MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY) - who also worked on the band's landmark 1996 release, »Roots« - and co-producer Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SYMPHONY X, INCANTATION) - who previously worked on SEPULTURA's »Roorback« (2003), the »Revolusongs« EP (2002), and »Nation« (2001) - to record the band's seventh studio album with Green (and their second album for Nuclear Blast): »The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart«, scheduled for release this October.

Inspired by Austrian filmmaker Fritz Lang's classic 1927 movie "Metropolis," SEPULTURA leans heavily on the strength of their thrash metal influences to make a statement against the dehumanizing effects of technology. Guitarist Andreas Kisser delves a little deeper:

"In the movie, a crazy millionaire wants to transform a robot into a real person. That's kind of the opposite of what we live today. More than ever, we are robotized through the worldwide web, Google glasses, chips under our skins and globalized slavery our society suffers nowadays. Being that the novel was written in the early 1920s, it's almost prophetical. The phrase that inspired me - the main message of the story - points to the heart as being the human factor that keeps a man a man - not a robot. The heart beats with freedom of choice. We have to think for ourselves to create a real world, not a matrix."

Exploring the miseries and privileges associated with technological power, »The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart« - SEPULTURA's angry dystopian documentary in sonic form - also addresses the chaotic aftermath of natural disasters, the unfulfilled promises of religion, and the still-widening divide & unbridgeable gap between pampered citizens who live in decadent luxury and the working poor who withstand unbearable living & working conditions to simply survive.

The album's opening track, 'Trauma Of War', begins as a cacophony of noise that gives rise to an urgent panic that spins into a paranoiac distress about others making decisions that will lead to our demise in war. In 'The Vatican', we listen as yearning souls pray to their god to alleviate their suffering as the furious vocals, guitars, and drums document the moment when the faithful come face-to-face with the reality of their absent god too self-absorbed with being adored to notice humanity's cries for help. 'The Bliss Of Ignorants' is an indictment by those who intimately know the depths of human suffering against those who don't wish to know. 'Grief' weeps with its gnosis of such a feared emotion. With so many recent natural disasters throughout the world, who could deny the truth behind human greed & corruption sung about in 'Manipulation Of Tragedy'?

With both the 2014 FIFA World Cup championship and the 2016 Olympic Games headed to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a worldwide audience will surely be mesmerized by the glamour surrounding these world-broadcasted events. But there are those who bear witness to what won't be televised; there are those who have seen the decades of daily strife of Brazilian citizens with wide-open eyes.

»The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart« never lacks confidence in what SEPULTURA knows: "I live in São Paulo, one of the big metropolises in the world with more than 20 million people living and working in it," asserts Kisser. "I know how it is to live in daily chaos. Our music reflects a lot of that feeling."

Featuring a guest appearance by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo, »The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart« does what many great albums do: it captures a moment in time and carves out a place to have a dialogue with listeners with an honesty that rings so true, it becomes a part of our arsenal with which to defend ourselves against the wrongdoings of the world.
