The Bobby Darin Story - Greatest Hits

First Time 180 Gram Vinyl Of Bobby Darin's Greatest Hits

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso From The Rare Stereophonic Atlantic Records Tapes

Features The Rare Early Alternate White Cover Artwork From 1961

The legendary Bobby Darin was truly an entertainer of iconic stature. At a very young age he learned how to play a plethora of instruments. This rudimentary love of music followed him closely throughout his early career where he teamed up with future superstar Don Kirshner (The Monkees/Kansas) and began their publishing and writing partnership in New York City at the Brill Building. In the late 50's he ultimately cut his first #1 hit single Splish Splash, soon following it up with other huge sides like the phenomenal Mack The Knife for Atlantic Records, kick-starting the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar, troubadour and entertainer career unlike the world has ever known.

In 1961 after many chart topping pop albums and a bevy of hit singles and awards, more fame followed as the brass at Atlantic Records honored their young superstar Bobby Darin with his first hits collection, the top ten charter The Bobby Darin Story . The album was a blockbuster at retail, making this a crossover hit with both pop and jazz audiences, proving once again that his career was of historic merit.

Filled with more hits than a jukebox, the amazing album cooks with smashes like Dream Lover, his early Decca Records hit Early In The Morning, the smooth sounds of Beyond The Sea, plus more hits like the rockin' Lazy River and Plain Jane which truly makes this Lp a treasure trove of Bobby Darin classics.

In total, the album showcases 12 important recordings which have truly gone on to become international classics for all time. At Last

Lauren White is an extremely talented 20-year old from Texas who has been studying under the same vocal coach as Norah Jones. Lauren blends the sensuality and vulnerability of Norah Jones with the vocal range of Linda Ronstadt combined with a voice that exhibits both emotional depth as well as nuance and delicacy!

Lauren's first album features a wide array of songs, the album opens with a Billie Holiday styled tune My One & Only, then drops to the darker overtones of the Anthony Wilson arranged Love For Sale, and transitions into a swinging Mack The Knife. This album also includes memorable covers of popular songs like Blue Bayou (Roy Orbison), Superstar (Carpenters), and to the country influenced, Why They Call It Falling (Lee Ann Womack). Lauren White also displays an impressive talent for song writing with three original songs here including a retro-ish Do You Remember, a heartbreaking ballad All I Do Is Cry and an up-tempo Brand New Love.

Featuring Anthony Wilson on guitar, Bill Cunliffe on piano and Ricky Woodward on sax, the album was recorded at Sunset Sound by Joe Harley (producer) and Mike Ross (engineer). The all analogue two inch 24-track masters were mixed down to 1/2 inch 30 ips stereo at LA-FX in Burbank, CA. These master tapes were then used in the mastering of both the LP and SACD and feature a stunning all analogue recording experience! This new release is a must have for all fans of superb audiophile quality female vocals!

Mack The Knife: Ella In Berlin

43-year-old Ella rolls through her typical routine in feisty fashion on this 1960 recording, which documents the opening show of her European tour. There's the Satchmo impersonation (a joyous Mack the Knife), the lengthy scat showcase (How High the Moon), and a bevy of Gershwin and Porter tunes. Supported by pianist Paul Smith's quartet, Ella's voice sounds earthier than usual and her phrasing is as appealing as ever. She's tender on Misty and sultry on Too Darn Hot.

Mack The Knife: Ella In Berlin

"This LP is a classic. Ella Fitzgerald is heard at the peak of her powers during a Berlin concert that is famous for her unique version of 'Mack the Knife'; when she forgot the words in midperformance, she substituted spontaneous and remarkable lyrics of her own. This music (which also includes a hot version of 'How High the Moon') is essential for all serious jazz collections."
