    Oh Mercy

Released in 1989, Oh Mercy found Bob Dylan at the top of his game. Widely regarded as his best album in over a decade, Oh Mercy reaches back to Dylan's artfulness from his early years. Lyrically, the album boasts a healthy mix of social works, love songs and poetical subject matter. Especially the laidback and airy production by Daniel Lanois (whose CV mentions U2's Joshua Tree, Album Of The Year in 1988) makes Oh Mercy undoubtedly the pinnacle of Bob Dylan's eighties output!

Reissue Of The Long Out Of Print Legendary No Mercy 1987 Release

Picture Disc LP Limited To 750 Copies

Line Up Features Mike Muir, Mike Clark, Ric Clayton, & Sal Troy

The band started in 1982 and featured lead vocalist Keven Guercio, guitarist Mike Clark, bassist Ken Blakley later replaced by Ric Rancid Clayton (the
artist who designed the Suicidal Tendencies logo as well as the shirts on S.T.'s first album) and drummer Sal Troy. Guercio recorded a few demos and
the tracks on the Welcome to Venice (1985) compilation before leaving and moving to Jackson Hole, WY and was replaced by Suicidal Tendencies
vocalist Mike Muir. Muir signed them to his independent label Suicidal Records.

In 1987 No Mercy released their first and only album Widespread Bloodshed Love Runs Red, and were about to record their second album with many
new songs already written but Clayton and Troy quit. Instead of recruiting new members, Muir decided to merge the two bands by having Clark join
    Suicidal Tendencies.

Clark took over much of the songwriting duties for Suicidal, shifting its style more to a melodic thrash metal sound similar to No Mercy's and what would
have been No Mercy's second album became Suicidal Tendencies' third album, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today.

I Just Wasn't Made For These Times (Awaiting Repress)

Along with The Beach Boys, the legendary Brian Wilson, the rock and roll genius and ambassador of time honored classic rock and popular song, invented and helped shape the California sound for the entire world to enjoy for over 50 years. His distinct vision and musical imagery for The Beach Boys truly made them one of the first rock bands in history to sell multi-platinum and gold albums to millions of fans around the globe.

In 1996, Brian Wilson and long-time admirer superstar producer Don Was collaborated on what was to become a much applauded project in Wilsons long time solo career. Pre-dating his own Smile album release by several years, I Just Wasnt Made For These Times was a soundtrack to the critically acclaimed documentary which went on to receive several Emmy and Sundance nominations during the films initial run at the theater and on the Disney Channel.

Organically recorded with its minimalistic approach, Don Was reached for and delivered the soulful side of Brian Wilson. For this masterwork, Brian performs a number of his classic Beach Boys hits like The Warmth Of The Sun, Do It Again (featuring daughters Carnie and Wendy Wilson) and album track treasures like Meant For You from Friends, Til I Die from Surfs Up and of course the Pet Sounds classic Caroline, No.

For this album, Brian Wilson also included some of his later solo hits like Love And Mercy, Melt Away and a very rare home studio demo of Still I Dream Of It, plus even more Beach Boys classics like This Whole World from Sunflower.

In an effort to continually offer the consummate music fan with the greatest recordings of all time, Friday Music proudly presents for the first time ever on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl, Brian Wilsons classic masterpiece I Just Wasnt Made For These Times.

Impeccably mastered from the original MCA Records tapes by long time Beach Boy friend and associate Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray, I Just Wasnt Made For These Times is a brilliant recording for the audiophile vinyl domain.

In addition to the wonderful music contained on this stunning release, to celebrate this limited edition album, Friday Music is also including a wonderful gatefold cover which features the original artwork elements from the compact disc release, rare photographs, as well as Don Was' recollections and Brian Wilsons special notes from the original artwork.

Some Girls Wander By Mistake (Pre-Order)

SOME GIRLS WANDER BY MISTAKE, a title taken from a Leonard Cohen lyric, and the title for the album that comprises the earliest days of The Sisters of Mercy's career, before signing to WEA in 1984. Featuring everything from their very first single, 1980's 'The Damage Done', debuted on the band's own Merciful Release label, through their early indie rise to cult acclaim with 'Alice', 'Temple of Love' and The Reptile House EP.

Continuing the series of 'era' box set releases, we will be compiling these Merciful Release recordings into the 'Some Girls Wander By Mistake' box for release this September; featuring the original album, on 180g double LP, plus two 12 singles taken from that era Temple of Love (1992) and Under the Gun. The 12 EPs will also include the 1992 version of 'Temple Of Love' featuring Ofra Haza, the Canadian Club Mix of 'Vision Thing' (their final official recording), 'Under The Gun' featuring Terri Nunn of Berlin fame plus a 1993, re-recorded version of 1982's 'Alice'.

Paint It Black: 1985 Debut Is Penultimate Goth-Rock Album

Andrew Eldritch's Ghostly Vocals, Static Beats, Melodic Guitar Jangle Create Hauntingly Atmospheric Soundscapes

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI (Best Record Plant in America): First Time Any Sisters of Mercy Record Given Audiophile Treatment on LP

The template for all goth-rock records that followed, Sisters of Mercy's First And Last And Always stands as one of the-if not the most-influential albums of its kind ever released. Distinguished by Andrew Eldritch's ghostly singing, which gives the impression of hearing a forlorn ghoul croon from a foggy English graveyard, the 1985 set is drenched in gloom, claustrophobia, black humor, and dance-ready beats that provide exhilarating contrasts. Fans of the Cure, Depeche Mode, Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy, mid-period Nick Cave, and Joy Division will find it to be a new favorite record.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (the best record plant in North America), Silver Label numbered limited edition LP presents First And Last And Always with a fuller, richer sound that positively obliterates the thin, feeble sonic perspectives that have limited the music until now. Every aspect from Eldritch's haunting singing to the group's jangling guitars and prancing bass lines finally gain genuine definition. Yet what's most improved is the sense of atmosphere: Sisters of Mercy revel in painting tone poems, where the feel and effect are as essential as the notes that are played. This is now an atmospheric tour de force.

Ever since it's release, First And Last And Always has been aptly shrouded in mythology. Eldritch pushed the envelope during the recording sessions, literally walking into walls and repeatedly unable to maintain his focus. Strung out on amphetamines, dazed by days of no sleep, upset by a recent breakup, and eating little, the vocalist channeled his discord into somber lyrics and brooding singing. He's framed by pulsing albeit lean, spare rhythms, patient tempos, and the clatter of a programmed drum machine that, in spite of its mechanical operation, sounds strangely organic. The songs evoke wet dungeons, walls-closing-in paranoia, and late-night strolls amidst the U.K.'s mysterious underground.

Despite its overall dark character, the record's arrangements value spaciousness, putting a premium on room and minimalism that makes each note count. As a result, twinkling pianos and keyboards parallel steel-cutting guitars and low-tuned bass lines that, in combination with Eldrtich's baritone, suggest glimmers of hope among the decay. Songs such as the shaking Possession, dramatic Some Kind of Stranger, and desperate Marian remain models of the gothic and post-punk disciplines more than 25 years after their debut. It's no surprise that, given all of the tension and personality that infuse the album, Sisters of Mercy disbanded just months after its release.

It's unlikely that any goth-rock album has ever sounded this good. This MoFi Silver Label LP will turn your room into rainy, dreary England, circa 1985, and expose you to one of the most harrowing vocal performances on record.

    What's Going On (Pure Pleasure)

In 2006, exactly a year after Katrina, in the aftermath of a vicious natural disaster that displayed the incompetence of the Crescent City's infrastructure, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Government, they addressed the tragedy in the only way they know how, by re-creating the same kind of bewilderment and anger that Marvin Gaye felt and witnessed in 1971 by issuing their own take on Gaye's classic album What's Goin' On. This is a question that is proved all the more poignant given the efforts of an entire region trying not only to rebuild homes and businesses, but trying to preserve a culture as this recording was released. The Dirty Dozen recruit a number of vocalists to help out on the hinge tunes. The samples of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's voice in the aftermath of the hurricane usher in the brass slip-sliding along the dark funky overtones of Gaye's signature tune. Guitarists Doug Bossi and Ben Keeler dig into the groove, as does drummer Terence Higgins and keyboardist/producer Anthony Marinelli, as Chuck D raps the refrain in the context of modern history, the disaster, and the ineptitude and even hostility of a government who wages war and ignores domestic problems. It's a news report from the front lines as the horns cut the melody, the harmony, and the deep, steamy funk groove. What's Happening Brother, closes the funk from the inside, turning the groove back in on itself not only playing the rage, but echoing it in the grain of Bettye LaVette's vocal, which dares to spit out the truth with questions and observations in the pain of a first person narrative. The airy arrangement of Flyin' High (In the Friendly Sky) is nearly mournful, nostalgic for a more innocent time, but is all the more poignant for that longing. The deep tribal drums Mardi Gras Indian-style, with the skronky saxophones, tight guitar groove, and screaming narrative in Save The Children give way to the smoothness of Gaye's melody. It's a bewildered tune, sad with undercurrents of rage. Ivan Neville's arrangement for God Is Love is a stunner, full of deeply imaginative hues and colors and gospel grooves. G. Love helps out on Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology), where the musicality in Gaye's vocal disappears but is supercharged in the horn charts, and Love's vocal sounds confused, displaced, out of time against the instruments. Right On is both militant and celebratory. It's got the funk, but it's also got gospel, rock, and deep soul blaring from the trombones and the repetitive riff in the rest of the brass section. Guru from Gang Starr cuts out from the moody, spectral introduction of Inner City Blues, when Higgins drums play counter to Kirk Joseph's deep blues sousaphone on the bassline. Frustration is everywhere and the horns point fingers to this truth which Guru lays out: that today is the same and perhaps even more so than it was in Gaye's time. The desolation in Gaye's lyric isn't lost but it is fleshed out over the chart so that they are merely the ghosts from the past preaching and exhorting in this new generation. Never has party music sounded so poignant, so utterly damning and hopeful and unbowed. This is the next step in the Homecoming that was a funeral for a friend; this is the aftermath, the sound of angry resurrection coming out with the sun, one where the revolution may be televised but bursts out of the edges in the screen and makes itself known by the medium understood by the people who have to live its realization. With killer grooves that take no prisoners, What's Goin' On is the most fitting tribute yet to Gaye, because not only does it prove the timelessness of the music itself, it echoes that what is indeed goin' on (Gaye's dedication to Detroit as its decline became a reality with no onlookers interested in doing anything) is even more true today than it was in 1971.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Slammin And Jammin

Charles Earland was known as the Mighty Burner for the intense way he commanded the Hammond B-3. Earland was originally a saxophonist who taught himself the unwieldy organ during a sax stint in Jimmy McGriff's band. Right from the get go, Earland coaxed the most individual of sounds from the Hammond B-3, firing off machine-gun ostinatos balanced with a cavalcade of just-right cushioning from his left hand and, most notably, a string-bassist's command of the organ's difficult foot pedals.

Earland's May 1997 recording of Slammin' & Jammin', now re-released by Savant as part of their 180-gram LP series, is among the Mighty Burner's very best. The six cookers here, not a ballad in the bunch, a collection of familiar and soulful covers, these grooves are ones Earland himself always admired. From Bill Doggett's Honky Tonk and Joe Zawinul's Mercy, Mercy, Mercy to Stanley Turrentine's Sugar and the late Grover Washington Jr.'s Mr. Magic, Earland shares his love of these tunes with some especially strong grooving. Guitarist Melvin Sparks, and funky drummer supreme, Bernard Purdie get loose and just play the way they were meant to play. Carlos Garnett adds his surprisingly warm tenor sax groove to Honky Tonk and Mr. Magic. These guys must have loved doing this date: playing the stuff they like, exactly the way they want. It cooks.

Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, is pleased to announce the release of Power of Peace, a new studio album from Santana (Carlos Santana and Cindy Blackman Santana) and The Isley Brothers (Ronald and Ernie).

Recorded last year, Power of Peace is the fulfillment of a dream, a new musical studio collaboration connecting Santana and The Isleys on a mind-bending journey through some of the immortal soul, funk, blues, rock, jazz and pop songs that continue to inspire them.

About the Power of Peace, Carlos Santana observes, I feel a deep sense of gratitude, appreciation, and thankfulness. There is a spirit of creativity that came knocking and presented itself as a golden opportunity to do something with and for a supreme musician, who I consider to be the best in the world. Brother Ronnie Isley has been in the center of collective unity and harmony on the radio around the world since 1962 with 'Twist and Shout,' the song that the Beatles chose to invade America with. Like Michael Jackson, John Lennon, and Bob Marley, he's an iconic supreme of the highest order. Cindy and I feel very blessed to offer him this gift. From God, through us to you, for the world Mr. Ronnie Isley.

It was an absolute joy working on this album with Carlos!, exclaims Ronald Isley. I hope this record carries the spirit of hope, love, and peace to the world that it brought to me, my brother and Carlos!

Ernie Isley shares his brother's enthusiasm, saying, Doing this project with Carlos Santana was fun and illuminating. I hope all music lovers enjoy what we have done.

Led by the legendary Ronald Isley on lead vocals and the album's main producer/arranger Carlos Santana on lead guitar, rhythm guitar, percussion and background vocals, Power of Peace covers songs first made familiar by the Chambers Brothers (Are You Ready, Love, Peace, Happiness), Swamp Dogg (Total Destruction to Your Mind), Stevie Wonder (Higher Ground), Billie Holiday (God Bless the Child), Eddie Kendricks (Body Talk), Curtis Mayfield (Gypsy Woman), Muddy Waters/Willie Dixon (I Just Want to Make Love to You), Dionne Warwick/Jackie DeShannon (What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love), Marvin Gaye (Mercy Mercy Me - The Ecology), Leon Thomas (Let the Rain Fall on Me) and Sy Miller and Jill Jackson (Let There Be Peace on Earth).

Power of Peace premieres a new song, I Remember, written and sung by Cindy Blackman Santana. Cindy, who plays drums on the album, produced and arranged Higher Ground (along with her husband, Carlos). A family affair, Power of Peace features two Santanas--Carlos (guitar) and Cindy (drums)--and four Isleys: Ronald (vocals) and Ernie (rhythm guitar) and their respective spouses, Kandy Johnson Isley (Ron's wife, she sings background on God Bless the Child, Body Talk and Gypsy Woman) and Tracy Isley (Ernie's wife, she also sings background vocals on God Bless the Child).

    Songs of Leonard Cohen

    Meticulously Remastered

Sourced From The Original Columbia Records Stereo Masters In Order To Preserve The Sound Of The Original Albums

1967's Songs of Leonard Cohen is one of the decades most audacious debut albums, with producer John Simons artful arrangements animating such haunting Cohen standards as Suzanne, Sisters of Mercy and So Long, Marianne.

By the time Leonard Cohen began his recording career in 1967, the iconoclastic Canadian troubadour was already well established as a poet and author. He quickly emerged as one of the eras most original and influential singer-songwriters, building a large and legendary body of work that continues to inspire artists and listeners alike.

Much of Cohen's reputation and mystique was established by his early work for Columbia Records, particularly the five albums he recorded between 1967 and 1974. Now, these five classic albums, unavailable on vinyl for two decades, have been lovingly restored to their original LP format.

For their new Sundazed editions, all five albums have been meticulously remastered and have been sourced from the original Columbia Records stereo masters in order to preserve the sound of the original albums. In keeping with the exacting standards for which Sundazed has become known, each album will be pressed on high-definition vinyl, with complete original cover art.

    Songs of Faith and Devotion

In between Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion, a lot happened: Nirvana rewrote the ideas of what alternative was supposed to be, while Nine Inch Nails hit the airwaves as the most clearly Depeche-influenced new hit band around. In the meantime, the band went through some high-profile arguing as David Gahan turned into a long-haired, leather-clad rocker and pushed for a more guitar-oriented sound. Yet the odd thing about Songs of Faith and Devotion is that it sounds pretty much like a Depeche Mode album, only with some new sonic tricks courtesy of Alan Wilder and co-producer Flood. Perhaps even odder is the fact that it works incredibly well all the same. I Feel You, opening with a screech of feedback, works its live drums well, but when the heavy synth bass kicks in with the wailing backing vocals, even most rockers might find it hard to compete. Martin Gore's lyrical bent, as per the title, ponders relationships through distinctly religious imagery; while the gambit is hardly new, on songs like the centerpiece In Your Room, the combination of personal and spiritual love blends perfectly. Outside musicians appear for the first time, including female backing singers on a couple of tracks, most notably the gospel-flavored Condemnation and the uilleann pipes on Judas, providing a lovely intro to the underrated song (later covered by Tricky). Rush is the biggest misstep, a too obvious sign that Nine Inch Nails was a recording-session favorite to unwind to. But with other numbers such as Walking in My Shoes and The Mercy in You to recommend it, Songs of Faith and Devotion continues the Depeche Mode winning streak.

After a self-prescribed hiatus, 2012 saw Prong blow the hinges off the door with the release of "Carved Into Stone". Seemingly out of nowhere, Tommy Victor and company managed to combine all the previous elements of the band's formula: thrash, hard-core, industrial metal, etc. with a new urgency and angst that struck a deep nerve with the band's loyal fan-base and beyond.

The band marched onwards with 2014's highly acclaimed "Ruining Lives" which spawned a number of instant classics. "Turno-ver", The Barriers" and the title track became staples in their live set when embarking on a bone breaking schedule of concerts around the world in support of the record. A video for Remove, Separate Self" was released creating even more interest in this significant recording.

Recorded over the summer of 2014 and released in early 2015, Prong's cover album "Songs From The Black Hole" was loved by fans and critics alike. Always game to make the unexpected move, the album featured songs from artists as diverse as HÜsker DÜ, The Bad Brains, Black Flag, The Sisters Of Mercy and Neil Young.

After yet another headline tour, it was straight back to the studio for another studio album. Just days after mixing was completed, PRONG went on the road with Danzig and SuperJoint Ritual in North America and released the first single "Ultimate Authority" on the day the tour began.

"X - No Absolutes" is Prong at their very best. The sheer intensity and ferocity of the albums opening triumvirate "Ultimate Authority", "Sense Of Ease" and "Without Words" leaves the listener gasping for air. The title track is crunchy and catchy at the same time. "Do Nothing" may be as close as you will ever hear PRONG get to a ballad and shows the enormous progress and confidence Victor has made vocally. It is hard to find a weak spot here, notably Victor mentions that „sequencing the album was a difficult task; every song is so strong in it's own way".

Again produced by Tommy Victor, this time with trusted collaborator Chris Collier as co-producer and engineer, "X - No Absolutes" also broadens the horizon sonically.

Sweden's Makthaverskan layer tenets of noise, jangle and dream pop on a
foundation of rambling, garage-punk energy. Distorted, uptempo riffs ebb and
flow with laid back, atmospheric post punk throughout the tracks that make up
the band's sophomore LP 'II'. Sonic bursts of anthemic pop are accentuated and
brought to life by front-woman Maja Milner's sharp and soaring delivery, cutting
through layers of reverb to air out her dirty laundry. "Fuck you for fucking me
when I was seventeen," Maja howls on the climactic track, "No Mercy", cursing

Classic Album From Scottish Hard Rockers Nazareth Re-Issued On Vinyl!!!

This 1978 album found Nazareth continuing to mine the combination of stripped-down hard rock and roots rock sounds explored on 1977's Expect No Mercy. No Mean City is also notable because the veteran Scottish rock outfit expanded its lineup for the first time with addition of guitarist Zal Cleminson, formerly of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. He helped the band create a gutsy twin-guitar attack that stamps its authority all over the album: prime example of the group's new firepower include Just to Get Into It, a blinding speed rocker that provides the album with a fitting opener, and Simple Solution, a hard-driving slab of boogie rock that sets cynical lyrics against the backdrop of a gritty, hypnotic guitar riff. Another major highlight is May the Sunshine, which starts as a Celtic-inflected acoustic tune, but soon adds electric guitars and rumbling bassline to become a stomping folk metal tune in the style of Led Zeppelin. However, the album's secret gem is Star, a power ballad about a love affair broken up by the music biz that is driven by a sweetly harmonized guitar riff almost as heart-tugging as the song's lyrics.

The Songs Of Bob Dylan, Vol. 1 (Pre-Order)

On Songs of Bob Dylan, Joan Osborne unleashes her sizable gifts as a vocalist and interpreter upon The Bard's celebrated canon. With performances honed by the time Osborne spent polishing them during Joan Osborne Sings The Songs Of Bob Dylan - two critically acclaimed two-week residencies she performed at New York City's CafÉ Carlyle in March 2016 and 2017, the seven-time Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum-selling singer and songwriter, whom The New York Times has called a fiercely intelligent, no-nonsense singer, winds her supple, soulful voice around Dylan's poetic, evocative lyrics, etching gleaming new facets in them along the way.

The album spans Dylan's beloved standards from the '60s and '70s (Masters of War, Highway 61 Revisited, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, Buckets of Rain,Tangled Up In Blue) to some of Osborne's favorites from his later albums, including Dark Eyes (from 1985's Empire Burlesque), Ring Them Bells (from 1989's Oh Mercy), Tryin' To Get To Heaven (from 1997's Time Out of Mind), and High Water (from 2001's Love and Theft). His versions are legendary and I'm not trying to improve on them, Osborne says. I'm just trying to sing beautiful songs and let people hear them. It's about trying to give a different shade of meaning to something that's already great.

    New York Tendaberry (Pure Pleasure)

Dirt and grit, sweetness and sorrow, this is New York Tendaberry, Laura Nyro's masterpiece. This tapestry of great beauty and painful images is not for the pop-oriented crowd who only are familiar with the aurally digestible versions of Save the Country and Time and Love sung by other people. Laura herself had a voice both comforting and full of despair, and both those songs are woven into this complex journey. I always imagine it as twenty-four hours in the life of this street-wise, New Yorker, where she is both observer and subject. She wakens as her man leaves (You Don't Love Me When I Cry), yanks us by the hand to follow her down to the subway to sing joyful harmonies which echo and blend to the sound of trains (Mercy on Broadway), and then to Gibsom Street. If you are soft, then you will shiver, they hang the alley cats on Gibsom Street. Finally, in the languid, deep night, a brief celebration from her terrace as firecrackers break, dust, and skate. But the reality of her world takes over as she gazes below on humanity which joins for life through silver tears (New York Tendaberry).

Listen to the final song, New York Tendaberry. Laura Nyro's incredible vocals and imagery are of this time, now. It was of that time, and will be forever treasured by those who love and be willing to listen to this exceptional artist.

    Songs In A&E

Who would have thought that Jason Pierce's Spiritualized would have had any life in them after the rather uninspiring Amazing Grace in 2003? In the intervening five years, Pierce nearly died from double pneumonia. Near death experiences by their very nature are life-changing events. The music on Songs in A&E were recorded in that aftermath, but most of the album was written two years before he got sick; with so much of it about near death and survival, it feels like life imitating art. From the first notes of Sweet Talk, it's obvious that a very different Spiritualized is up and about; an acoustic guitar, a sparse drum kit, the voice quartet, a few horns, and a minimal bassline fuel it. Pierce sweetly croons to a loved one in waltz time; his words are
simultaneously appeasing and accusatory. The gospel chorus isn't as overblown as it was on Amazing Grace or Let It Come Down. They are in a support role, offering Pierce's reedy voice a fullness and authority it wouldn't have otherwise. The arrangement is lilting but powerful. How strange, then, the sounds of a ventilator that usher in the next track Death Take Your Fiddle: I think I'll drink myself into a coma/And I'll take every way out I can find/But morphine, codeine, Whisky, they won't alter/The way I feel/Now death is not around...Death take your fiddle/And play a song for me. Minor-key acoustic
guitar and ghostly bass frame Pierce singing a mutant folk-blues that evokes Gary Davis' Death Don't Have No Mercy. The backing vocals float
wordlessly like death angels, hovering around the vocalist and giving the tune an otherworldly quality.

But this isn't a song about dying; it's a song about coming close and cheating it; it's eerie. The proof? The next two tracks: I Gotta Fire, and Soul on
Fire. The former is a taut, Gimme Shelter-esque rocker, the latter, a lush, uptempo love song. Sitting on Fire is a beautifully orchestrated love song:
it's an admission of weakness and codependency but celebrates both of them at the same time: Baby, I'm sitting on fire/but the flames put a hole in my
heart/when we're together we stand so tall/But a part of me falls to the floor/Sets me free /I do believe it'll burn up in me for the rest of my life. Strings,
vibes, marimbas, and drums crash in to the center of the mix carrying the protagonist into oblivion. Yeah, Yeah is a scorching rocker that feels like the
Bad Seeds meeting the old Spacemen 3. You Lie You Cheat, crashes in Velvets style with acoustic guitar and screeching feedback. The chorus sings
atop a flailing drum kit, distorted strings, and wailing electric guitar. The marimbas and strings that power Baby, I'm Just a Fool, sweetly underscore a
very dark pop song, complete with da-do-da-do-dat det-det-do's. It descends into beautifully textured chaos led by a loopy violin solo over seven
minutes. Songs in A&E is the most consistent recording Spiritualized has issued since 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. It
contains the best elements of the band's signature sound, and paradoxically hedonistic yet utterly spiritual lyric themes. That said, newly focused energy,
willfully restrained arrangements, and taut compositions give the set a sheer emotional power that no Spiritualized recording has ever displayed before,
making it, quite possibly, their finest outing yet.

BLACK WATER RISING is back with the follow up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut.
'Pissed And Driven' represents what many would describe as another honest, barebones, no frills
rock album. Invigorated and eager to capitalize on the success of their debut album, the band's new material promises to be riff heavy and proudly anchored in the foundations of traditional hard rock and metal song writing with hooks and catchy choruses to pull you in. New songs like 'Show
No Mercy', 'Pissed And Driven', 'Last Man Standing' and 'Fire It Up' combine the band's love of Thin Lizzy and Judas Priest with the sonic stomp of Black Label Society, all while retaining a musical identity of their own.
