Ghost TropicThe sound movement on GHOST TROPIC will seem sudden to some; without warning. To others, it'll seem a very logical step in a very foreign direction. On its fifth proper full-length, Songs: Ohia has stepped outside the box and has delivered its most subtle record of fantastic depth to date. Indeed this is the most cohesive and album-like Songs: Ohia has ever been. The eight songs on the record sprawl out into one another, telling one long sonic tale, allowing very little room for chapter breaks or piss stops. In this regard, Lou Reed's moody classic BERLIN comes to mind as a worthy fore-bearer. But it's the strange ethnic flavor in which GHOST TROPIC is steeped that makes it stand apart from its predecessors, albums which were all received as crossing guards for the Great American lost highway. Surely this album will leave those expecting such fare scratching their heads. Blending the electro-acoustic minimalism of the David Bowie and Brian Eno Trilogy with the percussive worldliness of Tom Waits' SWORDFISHTROMBONES, the group seems to hop the globe from a British Isles folk rock influence to an Ennio Morricone-like Spaghetti Western feel to the faintest echoes of the Chinese Classical ringing like a death murmur in the distance. And the songs, they build in a slow, unconscious manner, pulsing with an intensity, but never betraying their most simple core with too much instrumentation or calculated progression. Yea! GHOST TROPIC is the first album which reveals Songs: Ohia's own Tropicalia Blues in full bloom.Lightning Risked It All

I Am A Bird NowThis second full-length features contributions from both Antony's peers (Rufus Wainwright, Devendra Banhart) and heroes (Lou Reed, Boy George). Their involvement reflects both their admiration for Antony and his unique place in the contemporary arts community. Reed asked Antony to perform as part of the small ensemble on Reed's American and European tours, and he gave Antony a solo turn on the Velvet Underground classic Candy Says, an homage to another one of Antony's inspirations, Andy Warhol. In fact, the image adorning the cover of this album is Peter Hujar's striking 1974 photo, Candy Darling On Her Deathbed. Like some unsettling ghost relative of Jeff Buckley and Billie Holiday singing for all the fallen, this is tough, honest, uncompromising beauty and the next great voice in music - Mojo. If a great voice is often said to be an instrument, Antony's is a near orchestra, carrying extremes of emotion, great waves of suffering, tragedy, redemption, and joy - Metro. Look for a full US tour this fall.1. Hope There's Someone

Featuring "I'm Deranged" By David Bowie, "The Perfect Drug" By Nine Inch Nails
Lost Highway is the 1997 French-American neo-noir-horror mystery film written and directed by David Lynch. It stars Bill Pullman as a man convicted of murdering his wife (Patricia Arquette), after which he inexplicably morphs into a young mechanic and begins a new life.
The film's score was composed by Angelo Badalamenti, with additional music by Barry Adamson, however Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails was responsible for assembling the soundtrack. David Bowie's "I'm Deranged", Rammstein's "Heirate Mich", Lou Reed's "This Magic Moment", Marilyn Manson's "Apple Of Sodom" plus more tracks from Trent Reznor, The Smashing Pumpkins all appear on the double album to accompany the Angelo Badalamenti and Barry Adamson theme music.

Cowboy Junkies recorded this spectacular LP as a live event Nov. 27, 1987 at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto. It was recorded with a digital R-Dat and using only a Calrec Ambisonic Microphone. What this means is the record sounds like the band was playing right in front of you with the perfect ambiance.
Yes, this is a digital recording. True to our company principles, Analogue Productions in almost all cases reissues recordings only where the analog master tape is available. However, there are rare exceptions that whether digitally recorded or otherwise, a recording is so outstanding it's worthy of the highest quality vinyl reissue.
Featuring the sultry voice of Margo Timmins, the precise musicianship of her brothers Peter (on drums) and Michael (on guitar), and bassist Alan Anton, The Trinity Session is a spare, evocative, countrified-rock classic. First released in late 1988, The Trinity Session was named Album of the Year by The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times described it as a quiet, special record that challenges traditional music. Rolling Stone declared the album to be as important as it its inspiring.
Today, it remains much more than a snapshot of a single day's work captured on tape. So for this deluxe Analogue Productions reissue, we pulled out all the stops. Starting with new mastering from the original session digital tapes by the original recording engineer, Peter Moore. And lacquer cutting by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound. The church where the album was recorded was selected on the basis of work Moore had done there with other jazz and classical artists. Using a single Calrec Ambisonic microphone, the results are stunning.
Next, we kicked up the packaging and content several notches. You're holding a heavyweight old-style tip-on Stoughton Printing jacket, and it has brand-new liner notes by author and music editor Jason Schneider. Schneider is the author of Whispering Pines: the Northern Roots of American Music from Hank Snow to The Band. He's also the roots music editor at Exclaim! and his work has been published in Paste, The Word, The Toronto Star and other publications. The liner notes share space with additional recording session photos, inside and on the back cover. Additionally, the cover has been redesigned to remove the lettering and photo distortion originally applied and make it appear as the musicians/artist originally intended. Lastly, this sonic treasure has been pressed on 200g vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest LPs, with stampers plated by master plating technician Gary Salstrom.
The inspired reworking of both Blue Moon and Working On A Building reveal the Timmins family to be talented interpreters and insightful neo-traditionalists. Mixing the ambitious songwriting of Margo and Michael Timmins with subdued covers of Lou Reed's Sweet Jane and Hank Williams' I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, The Trinity Session is an exquisite collection that holds up quite well under repeated listenings.

Easy Star's ThrillahFollowing up on the hugely successful reggae tribute albums of Dub Side of the Moon (2003), Radiodread (2006) and Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band (2009) comes the reggae adaptation of the greatest selling record of all time - Michael Jackson's Thriller. The album, titled Easy Star's Thrillah will be released August 28, 2012 (a day before the 53rd anniversary of Jackson's birth). Easy Star's Thrillah brings back several of the reggae stars from previous albums, such as vocalists Michael Rose (Black Uhuru), Steel Pulse, Luciano, Mojo Morgan (Morgan Heritage), alongside the diverse playing of guests Yossi Fine (David Bowie, Lou Reed, Stanley Jordan), Joe Tomino (Dub Trio/Matisyahu), Andy Farag (Umphrey's McGee), and horn tracks courtesy of Israel's highly-acclaimed funk/hip-hop band Hadag Nachash. The album will be preceded by the July 10th digital release of the Billie Jean EP, which includes two album tracks, along with non-album remixes and a dub version.
In selecting Thriller, Easy Star Records co-founder Lem Oppenheimer says, We've always tackled the greats - The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead - but while we wanted to take on another huge album, we also wanted to blaze new trails. In Thriller we found those new trails in a number of firsts for the series: the first album by an American artist, the first non-concept album, the first R&B/soul record, as well as the first release from the 80s.
For me, I was most excited for Thriller, says producer/arranger/guitarist Michael Goldwasser. I was always more of an R&B/soul and reggae kid growing up and I have an intense personal connection to Michael Jackson's music. As usual, the process initially involved Goldwasser spending a few months on arranging the songs. Writing the arrangements for this album was a cool challenge. I didn't have to try to make non-dance music into dance music as on our previous albums because the original Thriller is so danceable already, but I needed to find ways to make each song groove in a different way from the original version. I didn't want any of the arrangements to be obvious in that regard. In the end, Goldwasser's arrangements are some of the most interesting in his career.
Now that the hard work in the studio is done, the band is looking forward to bringing this music on the road, adding some dance/pop songs to their already varied sets. The band's live show, which was nominated for a UK Festy Award in 2009, already features tracks from the band's previous three tribute albums, along with original material. An extensive fall tour of the US and UK is already set up (US dates listed below), with more to come over the next year. As the original Thriller album comes up on its 30-year anniversary in November, what better way to celebrate this timeless album than to catch the Easy Star All-Stars perform their reggae-infused versions of this pop masterpiece.1. Jolie Holland's new Anti-album Pint of Blood finds Jolie returning to the simple, pared-down approach that made early albums like Escondida fan favorites. With her band The Grand Chandeliers, Jolie works through ten songs with a loose, live-in-the-studio feel that recalls the vibe of classic '70s album's from Neil Young to the Grateful Dead. Featuring her simplest, most elegant songs in a long while, Pint of Blood is a classic setting for the vocals the Village Voice called sultry and sweet, despairing and lonely.
An artist who transcends genres and demographics, her audience spans from 20-something fans of Devandra Barnhardt and Sufjan Stevens to NPR listeners embracing a spiritual descendant of classic American music, Jolie Holland will once again surprise and delight her fans with Pint of Blood.
