The Living Legend - The Baby Huey Story (Colored Vinyl) (Awaiting Repress)

    Colored Vinyl

Baby Huey's only album, released after his untimely death, is titled The Living Legend with good reason. He was legendary in his appearance, a 400-pound man with a penchant for flamboyant clothing and crowned by a woolly Afro, a look that is best illustrated by one of several rare photos included in the Water Records edition that shows our man in a wide-lapeled polka-dot shirt with a lime-green jacket.

Beyond his unusual appearance, though, he was graced with a stunning, fierce voice on par with Otis Redding and Howard Tate, wailing and howling one moment and oddly tender and sentimental the next. Nowhere on Living Legend is his range more apparent than the opening track, Listen to Me, where listeners are introduced to both the enigma of Baby Huey and his diamond-tough psychedelic funk backing band, the Baby Sitters. The high-energy instrumental workout Mama Get Yourself Together is worthy of the J.B.'s and a hazy, spiraling ten-minute rendition of Sam Cooke's chestnut A Change Is Going to Come confirms that the Baby Sitters could hold their own with Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Further lore that catapults The Living Legend from good to great: the production was helmed by Curtis Mayfield, reason enough to make it near essential, and is highlighted by three of his compositions, Mighty Mighty, which Mayfield and the Impressions recorded a few years earlier; Running, a classic Mayfield cut that can only be heard here ripped to glorious bits by a band that is trying to let every member solo; and Hard Times, which Mayfield himself would revisit on his 1975 album There's No Place Like America Today, although Baby Huey's razor-edged reading remains the definitive version -- no small caveat considering Mayfield not only wrote the tune, but could rightfully be considered one of the architects of soul to boot.

    Live At Legends

Live at Legends features Guy's last live recordings from his now-shuttered original Legends blues club in Chicago, captured during his January residency there in 2010. The album features a number of Buddy Guy live favorites including two amazing medleys: John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom into Cream's Strange Brew; and Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child into Cream's Sunshine of Your Love. Rough Guide To Legends Of Indian Music

India's classical music is deeply bound to the country's mystical ancient traditions. Stretching back through time to the Vedic period musical historians encounter the Rigveda, an ancient collection of Sanskrit hymns, and the Sama Veda, a text which begins to discuss the origin of seven shruti (notes) from the sounds of nature. The practice of combining tones in certain sequences and the notation system that was developed during this era is connected to the development of the Indian classical raga form. 'Raga' literally translates as a 'hue' of colour and is a musical method of constructing melody through prescribed conventions. Ragas are linked to different moods and times of the day. Amjad Ali Khan's 'Raga Chhaya Nat' is in the Hindustani (North Indian) chhayanat mode and illuminates his crystalline prowess on the sarod, a stringed lute that is played with a plectrum. Uppalapu Srinivas' song 'Sankari Sankuru' is played on his mandolin in saveri raga, which is said to bring about the mood of pity and was originally composed by one of Carnatic (South Indian) music's greatest figures Syama Sastri (1762-1827). Indian Classical Legends Shivkumar Sharma, Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Brij Bhushan Kabra are heard delicately delivering a Hindustani bhairav raga on 'Ahir Bhairav'. This raga is related to Sikh tradition from northern India and appears in the Guru Granth Sahib (the central religious text of Sikhism). Ravi Shankar's radiant sitar shines bright on the fast-paced track 'Devgiri Bilawal Dhun'. Shankar's name and ascendant international career is now synonymous with Indian classical music. Widely regarded as a musical sage or pandit, his definition of raga touched upon its vast and complex nature, describing it as a 'scientific, precise, subtle and aesthetic melodic form'. Another sitar scholar, Vilayat Khan is heard on 'Dhun Punjabi Ang'. The Khan musical lineage traces all the way back to the court musicians of the Mughal Empire. Father and son duo Allah Rakha and Zakir Hussain enter into percussive playoff on the live track 'Ek Taal'. Tabla virtuouso Zakir Hussain remains grounded by the musical discipline and natural flair he inherited from his father who he regarded as 'a spirit who was created to work for music by God'. Carnatic vocalist Dr M. Balamuralikrishna's marvellously melodic instrument sparkles on 'Sadhathava Pada'. His formidable range and versatile tone mark him out as a legendary singer. He is also credited with popularising the jugulbandi concept in Indian classical music - when two soloists of equal skill perform together. Riverboat Records artist Jyotsna Srikanth contributes 'Annapoorne', a work crafted by the famous Carnatic composer, Muttuswami Dikshitar. The subject matter concerns Annapoorne, the Hindu goddess of nourishment. The raga used is sama, one that denotes peace. Uncover the mystery and beauty of India's verdant classical tradition on this excellent introduction to one of the world's most valuable musical repertoires.

    Legend Remixed

For the first time, Bob Marley and the Wailers' iconic 1984 album, Legend, is re-imagined for Legend Remixed, an inspired new spin on the reggae classic to celebrate the summer. Legend's 16 tracks have been remixed by top DJs/producers. Included in this the cohesive new set are tracks by ten time Grammy winner Stephen Marley, Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, Jason Bentley, Z-Trip with Lee Scratch Perry, Photek, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Roni Size, RAC, Beats Antique, Nickodemus & Zeb, as well as a new rendition remix of Redemption Song by five-time Grammy Award winning reggae artist, Ziggy Marley.

The fourth track on the album, Three Little Birds, was remixed by Stephen Marley and DJ/producer Jason Bentley. This iconic Marley track serves as the worry-free anthem for Hyundai's new Assurance Connected Care program, a new suite of features that allows drivers to feel safe and secure and enjoy a stress-free ownership experience. Prior to its television debut, Three Little Birds made its television debut on May 14 with free downloads available to the first 15,000 fans through Hyundai's Facebook and YouTube channels and is also available for sale through all digital retailers.

Hyundai also supported the creation of the Making of Legend Remixed documentary, a short film about the creation of the new album including interviews with the Marley family and the musicians and remixers involved.

Bob Marley and The Wailers' Legend is the world's best-selling reggae album with global sales exceeding 40 million copies, including more than 14 million in the U.S. alone. The RIAA Diamond®-certified album holds the distinction of being the second longest-charting album in the history of Billboard magazine, second only to Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked LEGEND at No. 46 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

Bob Marley remains one of the 20th century's most important and influential entertainment icons. Marley's lifestyle and music continue to inspire new generations as his legacy lives on through his music. In the digital era, he has the second-highest social media following of any posthumous celebrity, with the official Bob Marley Facebook page drawing more than 42 million fans, ranking it among the Top 25 of all Facebook pages and Top 10 among celebrity pages. Since 1992, Marley's music catalog has sold more than 77 million albums worldwide and his accolades include inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1994) and ASCAP Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010), a GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), multiple entries in the GRAMMY® Hall Of Fame, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2001).

    The Cost Of Living

For The Revelations, their latest offering, The Cost Of Living (Decision/Sony RED), is a labor of love years in the making. Since they first came on the scene in 2008 with their Deep Soul EP(Decision), Brooklyn, NY's The Revelations have represented a twenty-first-century take on classic soul-one which shows reverence for the masters, but with a uniquely modern sensibility-a sound The New York Times' Jon Pareles calls "revivalism without poses or quotation marks".

On The Cost Of Living, Rell Gaddis assumes the lead vocal duties previously provided by Tre Williams. This is by no means Rell's debut with The Revelations, however. Rell has been part of the group's writing team from their onset, and performed with the band for years, even contributing lead vocals to "It's Too Late" from their 2009 album The Bleeding Edge (Decision). Since being signed to Jay-Z's Roc-a-fella Records back in 1997, Rell has had a prolific singing and writing career, creating his own records, as well as penning and lending vocals to songs featuring artists Usher (Rell wrote Usher's #1 RnB Hit Here I Stand), Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, and many more.

This workman-like mentality is pervasive throughout the band as well. The Revelations feature Wes Mingus on guitar, Gintas Janusonis on drums, and newcomer Ben Zwerin on bass. Each accomplished performing and session musicians in their own right, The Revelations have combined to provide music for icons such as the Wu-Tang Clan and Lee "Scratch" Perry, as well as soul royalty Otis Clay, Willie Clayton, Benny Latimore, and Swamp Dogg.

The distinctive blues/rock/soul sound of The Cost Of Living was recorded at soul mecca Royal Studios in Memphis, TN, produced by Bob Perry with Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell, as well as The Revelations themselves. For this project, the band is joined by Stax and Hi Records session legends Bobby Manuel (guitar), Lester Snell (keyboards), and Charles Hodges (organ). Lyrically, The Cost Of Living weaves tales of perseverance despite hardship. From the opening track, "Mama", about a single mother scrounging to raise her children, to the jaded optimism of "It's Ok", the pragmatism of "Money Makes The World Go 'Round", and the heart-broken disillusionment of the soul classic "Got To Use My Imagination", The Revelations continue their tradition of presenting blues topics with soul music's urgency.

The Revelations' engaging and energetic live performances continue to win over audiences from Brooklyn to the Mississippi Delta to California and beyond, creating fans such as A-listers B.B. King, Bobby Womack and Stevie Wonder in the process. This is new, true soul music with a sharp, modern edge.

    The Living Infinite

We don't have to introduce the melodic death metal masterminds of Soilwork. With their mix of modern, melodic and progressive metal they created a distinctive sound. The last album "The Panic Broadcast" demonstrated the guys from Helsingborg are one of the best Swedish metal acts. The Living Infinite was produced by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth). Vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid proudly announced the album: The Living Infinite will be a double album! A real double album, in the true sense of the word, which means no fillers and no left-overs. I've been wanting to do this for a while and I proposed the idea to the rest of the guys in the band, during our festival tour last summer."

The artwork of The Living Infinite was designed by MNEMIC's guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie. Soilwork commented: "We're all stoked about his work which is different from anything Soilwork has ever done and perfectly suits the elegant oceanic concept of The Living Infinite. Enjoy, folks!" Justin Sullivan lead singer of the British indie-rock-legend New Model Army will be guest vocalist on the track "The Windswept Mercy. Björn "Speed" Strid is very proud to announce this special guest: "The man is a true legend, a gentleman, and he has a very unique presence in his voice, on stage and in his lyrics. The fact that he wanted to lend his amazing voice to The Windswept Mercy" brought me to tears. He will forever be my hero."

Ridley Scott's 1985 cult fantasy film LEGEND famously starred a young Tom Cruise, had two soundtracks and was represented by one of the most iconic looking horror bad-guys in the history of cinema, known as "Darkness". The original Jerry Goldsmith score was preferred by Scott and was used in the Director's Cut (2002) including several songs: "My True Love's Eyes", "Living River", "Bumps and Hollows", "Sing the Wee" and "Reunited".

The extended version of the soundtrack makes its vinyl debut on this Special Edition release, using amazing original artwork by artist Vance Kelly, who has also designed a Limited Edition poster, release simultaneously and available from The Flood Gallery.

    Derry Legend (Discontinued) (On Sale)

"An album simmering with background chaos worthy of prime-era Buttholes or Royal Trux. The real surprise is how Derry Legend clears room for pop chops, making it possible to see the Axemen's relation to bands like the Clean and the Gordons. A wonderful testament to the power and limits of form-bloat. Ahoy! - Byron Coley

Long overdue re-issue of this cracked pop classic and Flying Nun rarity, Derry Legend was one of Kurt Cobain's top NZ platters and a staple of his mix-tapes.

Once I saw this band play live and thought "Ugh! What is this crap?!" I tried to listen to their truly awful "Three Virgins" album, but just couldn't see (hear?) the point. So the other day when a flatmate bought this "new" album (it appears to have been recorded in 1987, actually), I just shook my head and thought "so some people still buy records just because they like the cover art."

Then a strange thing happened: by accident I heard the last song first and thought "Hey that's quite good." I played the first side next - better still! - then the whole second side - FAR OUT! Since then I've been playing this over and over and it just cracks me up how good it is.

The music is like childhood memories of the first time you ever heard rock 'n roll; the first time you ever heard slushy-pop; the first time you ever heard rap (!). Listen to He's Leaving Home and wonder what George Benson LP the band sat around and assimilated; hear "The Wharf With No Name" and wonder why the Beatles never thought of it first; hop on one leg to "That's Finland, Dear" and understand why Acid House was just a nine-day wonder while Chuck Berry's rhythms still cascade like thunder. - Bevandra's Ears

    Black Rose: A Rock Legend

Recorded in 1979 as a follow-up to their mega successful Live And Dangerous, Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and new guitar sensation Gary Moore forged ahead once again with their trademark hard rock sound and continued their assault on audiences worldwide with Black Rose: A Rock Legend.

With the powerful drum entrance of Brian Downey, the opener Do Anything You Want To kicks the album into full gear. Featuring the dual lead guitars of Scott Gorham and Gary Moore, known for creating some of the finest and most familiar guitar riffs in music history, they continue their legendary style with this metal anthem. Phil Lynott's vocal and bass attack notched up another career defining song as well, which served the band well for years and has truly been one of their most revered tunes.

Seven more incredible performances from these rock and roll warriors continue to thrill the listener including more Phil Lynott hard rock classics like Waiting For An Alibi and the stellar With Love. More rockers flow like the funk infused Got To Give It Up and the punk metal feel of Toughest Street In Town. Even the heartwarming ballad My Sarah, which showcases a softer side of Lynott's writing and vocal ability, truly made this album a fan favorite for years to come. The incredible album closer Rosin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend truly emphasizes the band's love for their homeland of Ireland and pays tribute to their heritage in a hard rock Celtic performance never to be duplicated on wax ever again.

Tragically, we lost the musical genius Phil Lynott in 1986 and more recently the passing of guitar legend Gary Moore. This was their first collaboration together as members of Thin Lizzy, and with the impeccable musicianship of Scott Gorham and Brian Downey all delivering the goods, Black Rose: A Rock Legend is considered one of their greatest achievements in their enduring album catalog.

Mastered impeccably from the original Warner Music tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios and Capitol Records in Hollywood with Ron McMaster, Friday Music is very honored and enthusiastic to welcome back the much heralded Thin Lizzy classic Black Rose: A Rock Legend for the first time on 180g audiophile vinyl in North America.

To make this more of a treasure for your limited edition Thin Lizzy collection, Friday is also including a first time gatefold cover which features the original album cover art as well as the original photos and artwork included in the album inner sleeve not seen in years. As usual, they will include a poly sleeve to protect your hard rockin' audiophile vinyl and a poly bag to preserve your very cool album cover.

Travelling For A Living (Discontinued) (On Sale)

LUCKY LUKE is the brainchild of folk overlord SIMON SHAW, formerly of Glasgow legends V-TWIN, and MORAG WILSON. As a duo they contributed to many compilations with their dreamy, Nico inspired songs, until they grew into a droning, fluting, eight legged beast at the beginning of 2003. Trimmed down to a six-piece, the band supported Teenage Fanclub on their UK tour in May 2005, and their beautiful debut album, Patrick The Survivor achieved great reviews from NME, Uncut and Mojo. Travelling For a Living is their sophomore album filled with a similar folk vibe. Limited to 500 copies.

    Live 1966

Besides releasing two classic longplayers and many more singles (including the smash, "Gloria"), touring/behaving badly all across America and appearing on TV shows like 'Upbeat' and 'Where The Action Is', the Shadows of Knight also ruled at suburban Chicago's hands-down hippest teen club, The Cellar. Over the decades, their Cellar performances have become the stuff of legend.

Miraculously, two reels of tape of the Shadows of Knight live on stage at the Cellar (in 1966!) were eventually uncovered by Sundazed. As early as their 'Gloria' album debut in spring '66, the Shadows of Knight had separated themselves from the garage band pack with a heavily Chicago Blues-based, wildly rocking repertoire. Their trademark sound is on full display in this attitude-drenched, anarchic live recording from late in that exalted year.

For this expanded edition, the original sets and correct song sequence have been faithfully restored. And to top that, additional and until now completely unheard bonus material is rescued from those old reels. Specifically, added to an already scorching set are previously-unheard takes of "Peepin' and Hidin'" (sung by blues legend Joe Kelley), "Willie Jean" (with a vocal from drummer Tom Schiffour) and "Any Way That You Want Me". Equally important, the packaging now equals the musical contents thanks to an all-new, eye grabbing sleeve highlighted by John Hora's amazing original photography from '66.

Unlike their comparatively harnessed studio recordings, the Shadows of Knight are presented here raw 'n' alive, sloppy bordering on brilliant and with all the subtlety of a bulldozer. Would you want 'em any other way?

    Live North America 2016

Back when music was only available on a vinyl album, the pure excitement captured on a live album was considered the ultimate document coveted by hardcore music fans. Clark continues this tradition by bringing the live album to a younger generation of music fans. Live North America 2016 was recorded absolutely live, with no overdubs. What you hear is how it went down.

The album includes all new and unreleased live recordings from Gary Clark Jr's 2016 tour in support of his internationally acclaimed 2015 album The Story of Sonny Boy Slim. It features several songs from that album, including The Healing, Grinder, Our Love, Cold-Blooded, and Shake, featuring Leon Bridges and his saxophonist Jeff Dazey. The set is characterized by raw soul and funk, classic solo and blues performances, and several lengthy, tour de force guitar jams. It includes two previously unreleased covers, Jimmy Reed's Honest I Do and Elmore James' My Baby's Gone as well as You Saved Me and When My Train Pulls In - fan favorites from Clark's Warner Bros. Records critically praised debut Blak and Blu.

Clark's incendiary performances were also beautifully captured on Gary Clark Jr. Live, which was released in September 2014 and met with tremendous critical and commercial acclaim. Both live albums chronicle Clark's evolution on stage as his songs expand and find new life beyond the studio recordings. Much like the great blues, jazz, and soul legends of past, these recordings are lightening in a bottle - historical moments in time for an artist who is ever-morphing and one of the truly great improvisers of his generation and our time.

    Live At The Jazz Mill

    Pressed On Red Vinyl

Unearthed tape from a jazz icon. Thanks to a 21-year-old with a tape machine, we can all experience the majesty of guitar legend Barney Kessel at his 1954 best!

Even if you don't know Barney Kessel, you know Barney Kessel -- as a first-string member of the group of LA session musicians nicknamed The Wrecking Crew, Kessel's guitar is heard on just about every LA-based hit you'd care to name from the 60s, including songs by the Monkees and The Beach Boys' legendary Smile LP. And that's Kessel's playing on the famous fight music from the Star Trek TV series. He was regarded as the very best of the session guitarists by just about everyone around, and guitarists everywhere site him as an influence.

But before he played rock and roll, Kessel was a jazz pioneer -- as one of the leading lights of the hard-bop movement, his jazz guitar was legendary, and he was ranked the No. 1 guitarist in Down Beat and Playboy for numerous years. He played with Sonny Rollins and Oscar Peterson (and Chico Marx -- yes, that Chico Marx!) as well as leading his own super-tight group. On albums such as The Poll Winners, Kessel defined the bop style with a jazz power trio, creating a body of work that made him a legend.

Live At The Jazz Mill is a unique artifact -- recorded on a tape recorder by young jazz fan Jack Miller, this live recording catches Barney Kessel in the middle of his run at the Jazz Mill with a great four-piece band. The collection, gleaned from a couple of nights' best recordings, features Kessel's spirited take on such Songbook classics as Get Happy and Stardust, not to mention the Gershwin great Embraceable You. It's pressed on red vinyl and wrapped in a sleeve which captures the unique vibe of jazz graphics of the 1950s. Get with Barney Kessel, and get with a true pioneer of the jazz form!
