The Beatles: Live At The BBC (On Sale)

    Newly Remastered For This Reissue

In 1994, The Beatles' Live at the BBC was released to worldwide acclaim - hitting number one in the U.K. and number three in the U.S. and selling more than five million copies within six weeks. Now comes a new companion to The Beatles' first BBC collection, On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2. On Air's 63 tracks, none of which overlaps with The Beatles' first BBC release, include 37 previously unreleased performances and 23 previously unreleased recordings of in-studio banter and conversation between the band's members and their BBC radio hosts.

In the studios of the British Broadcasting Corporation, The Beatles performed music for a variety of radio shows. On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 presents the sound of The Beatles seizing their moment to play for the nation. Thrilled to hear these exciting recordings again, Paul McCartney said, 'There's a lot of energy and spirit. We are going for it, not holding back at all, trying to put in the best performance of our lifetimes.'

Ten of On Air's songs were never recorded by the group for EMI in the 1960s, including two making their debuts with the new release: The Beatles' direct-to-air performance of Chuck Berry's 'I'm Talking About You' and a rocking cover of the standard 'Beautiful Dreamer.' On Air also includes different versions of six rarities heard on the 1994 BBC collection: Little Richard's 'Lucille,' Chuck Berry's 'Memphis, Tennessee,' Chan Romero's 'The Hippy Hippy Shake,' Ray Charles' 'I Got A Woman,' and two songs they learned from records by Carl Perkins, 'Glad All Over' and 'Sure To Fall.'

The Beatles' tribute to the BBC's most important pop show of the early '60s - 'Happy Birthday, Dear Saturday Club' - is another surprise. As John Lennon recalled in 1980, 'We did a lot of tracks that were never on record for Saturday Club - they were well recorded, too.' Paul remembers, 'We'd been raised on the BBC radio programs. One of the big things in our week was Saturday Club - this great show was playing the kind of music we loved, so that was something we really aspired to.'

Between March 1962 and June 1965, no fewer than 275 unique musical performances by The Beatles were broadcast by the BBC in the U.K. The group played songs on 39 radio shows in 1963 alone. Ringo Starr said in 1994, 'You tend to forget that we were a working band. It's that mono sound. There were usually no overdubs. We were in at the count-in and that was it. I get excited listening to them.' On their busiest BBC day, 16 July 1963, The Beatles recorded 18 songs for three editions of their Pop Go The Beatles series in fewer than seven hours.

The group played 88 distinct songs in their BBC sessions - some were recorded many times; others performed just once. At the time, three national BBC stations provided all daytime radio broadcasting in the U.K. Only the Light Programme network might occasionally play a record. Most broadcast music was live music. Consequently, to promote their releases, The Beatles had to play live at the BBC. 'Everything was done instantly,' remembered George Harrison, 'But before that, we used to drive 200 miles in an old van down the M1, come into London, try and find the BBC and then set up and do the program. Then we'd probably drive back to Newcastle for a gig in the evening!'

On Air also features BBC recordings of 30 well-loved songs from The Beatles' catalogue, including five number ones and other favorites such as: 'I Saw Her Standing There,' 'Twist And Shout,' 'Do You Want To Know A Secret,' 'Boys,' 'Please Mister Postman,' 'Money,' 'And I Love Her,' and 'If I Fell.

    Radio Silence (Speakers Corner)

Radio Silence is the sound of a band fully comfortable in their unique sonic skin. And if an album is simply a snapshot of a work in progress, then this is a perfect portrait, capturing Neil Cowley and his co-conspirators in the right place at the right time. This is the record that he has been working towards, documenting the magical empathy of a unit, who, with thousands of hours under their belt have learnt to breathe and listen as one.
Described by Cowley as music for the 'heart and feet', Radio Silence shifts effortlessly between moments of poetic grace, rip-roaring riffs and Chaplinesque ditties that reminds us that for all his many influences, Cowley's music is as British as 'Test Match Special', warm beer or a bacon sarnie.

Originally released on compact disc and download in April 2010, Radio Silence has proved pinnacle in a hectic year for Neil, in which he has recorded extensively for Adele's new single and album, recorded the theme tune to a worldwide Nokia Cubes advertising campaign, recorded a live session at the famous Maida Vale Studios for BBC Radio 2, toured internationally, drawn mass critical acclaim and sold out his homecoming appearance at London Jazz Festival amongst others.

Radio Silence, as Naim's biggest-selling record of 2010, has been delicately crafted for vinyl at Abbey Road Studios from 24bit masters and pressed using the famous EMI 1400 Press at The Vinyl Factory in Middlesex, UK.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Clear Yellow Vinyl

This valuable collection of BBC sessions, finds Kevin Ayers at the height of his career, fronting several different line-ups and playing an interesting and rare mix of material, most of which is not found on any of his studio albums. The first session, recorded in February of 1970, features an interesting version of Soft Machine's 'Why Are We Sleeping?' and the campy 'You Say You Like My Hat', backed by all members of Soft Machine, plus Elton Dean and Lol Coxhill on sax. The next two sessions, from May & June 1970, find Ayers backed by his Whole World band, featuring Mike Oldfield, and playing 'We Did It Again', from his days with Soft Machine, along with the whimsical 'Derby Day' and 'Gemini Child'. The final session features only Ayers and Archie Leggett on bass (who would also appear on Ayers' 1973 Bananamour album) playing Ayers' 1970 'Butterfly Dance' single along with the classic pop song 'Falling in Love Again'.

    Live At Maida Vale BBC

Taken from their performance on BBC Radio 1's Rock Show in July 2012, just a month before their bus crash in Bath, Baroness have released a limited run of their Maida Vale BBC sessions via Relapse Records on 12" vinyl with gorgeous artwork by the talented John Baizley.

All four tracks are taken from their 2012 release Yellow and Green and are the carefully selected, anthemic songs 'Take My Bones Away', 'March To The Sea', 'Cocanium' and 'The Line Between'. Disappointingly there is only one track selected from the 'Green' side of the album, however, the quality of the 'Yellow' selection more than makes up for this absence.

Baroness sound at their best when unrefined and not held by the constraints of studio production; the vocals are imperfect and the instrumentals are raw as hell, but there is a certain charm to this and it suits the band immensely.

Of course there is the pang of longing that comes from listening to a live album that makes you wish you were there, however, this quickly abated by the reassurance that you didn't miss a huge live show, as this is a radio performance. Sit back, relax and enjoy the energy and the flaws as one.

    BBC The Radiophonic Workshop

    180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl

    Remastered

Available On Vinyl For The 1st Time

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, set up in 1958, was originally created as a sound effects unit for BBC Radio and TV programs. Pioneering new forms of drama during the late 1950s and early 60s demanded innovative and original use ofmusic and sound. The art of what became known as sounddesign began in the cramped undergroundstudiosof the Radiophonic Workshop at the BBC Maida Vale complex in London. Their early explorations into sound drew on the principles of musique concrete, early tape manipulation techniques and primitive oscillators and tone circuits built by technicians at the workshop. As technology developed and the synthesizer, tape technology, computers and early digital sampling emerged the Radiophonic Workshop maintained an their position at the leading edge of electronic music and sound design.

The vast body of work that emerged between 1960 and 1997 has influenced generations of musicians both within electronica and more widely in the Rock, Progressive and Pop field. Groundbreaking work such as Delia' Darbyshire's 1963 Doctor Who Theme (still the high water mark of experimental music), sound effects albums, works of early electronica and popular favourites such as Blake's 7 and The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy have ensured the RWS a place at electronica's top table. From the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Vangelis to Orbital, The Chemical Brothers and beyond, their legacy lives on in the sounds and textures of so much contemporary music. But it isn't just musicians who have drawn on their work.

The technical development of the studio and modern recording techniques owes them a great debt too. Sound engineer Roger Mayer, who supplied effects pedals to Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix, is just one of many engineers for whom their work proved inspirational. He described the Workshop as, ''the great unsung heroes of British electronica.''

These two records, recorded in 1968 and 1975 respectively, were released at the height of The Radiophonic Workshop's influence. They showcase the dawning of processed sound, treated sounds and sound design.

Quirky and irreverent BBC Radiophonic Music was originally put out as a specialist demonstration library disc for BBC drama producers. In 1971 the BBC released it commercially. This is the first time it has been made available on vinyl in its first and original form.

The Radiophonic Workshop from 1975 was a compilation of the best-known of the Radiophonic Workshop's output to date. This is the first time it has seen a vinyl reissue in its original form.

Both albums have been remastered for vinyl from the original tapes by the Radiophonic Workshop's archivist Mark Ayres. Pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

    BBC Jazz Club

    Featuring Alan Skidmore

This dynamic but sadly short-lived lineup of The Ronnie Scott Quintet - Ronnie Scott & Alan Skidmore: tenor saxophones, Gordon Beck: piano, Jeff Clyne: double bass and Johnny Butts: drums - recorded this sensational BBC Jazz Club session at the Paris Studios in London, which was originally broadcast on "The Jazz Scene on March 27th, 1966. The 23-year-old Alan Skidmore was already a blisteringly impressive soloist and the band's energy and enthusiasm offer a reminder of the halcyon days of British jazz in the 1960s.

    BBC Session 2011 Anno Domini

One month after releasing their fourth studio album, Celestial Lineage, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM recorded two live tracks at the BBC's Maida Vale studios. Southern Lord offers these sessions as a special vinyl release. It seems only fitting that Olympia's earthen black metal expanders, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, would add their name to the roster of acts who have recorded at the Maida Vale studios, the place where the sounds of contemporary and outstanding artists throughout the last century of popular music have been documented for the ages.

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's shadow, cast long and eerie from their campfire of the arcane, eclipses the hordes of black metal clones and drones, hewing raw nuggets of inspired music from rich seams of extreme metal and astral vibrations. "Prayer of Transformation" and "Thuja Magus Imperium" are the two tracks recorded on that day, taken from their lauded album Celestial Vintage and spanning two sides of vinyl and twenty minutes. Entitled BBC Session 2011 Anno Domini, this session is testament to the band's ability to inspire awe with homespun strands of metaphysical ambiance and painstakingly flexed sinews of metal, and is a must for all fans of the band as well as followers of contemporary metal.

BBC Sessions was originally released in 1997 and has been certified double platinum by the RIAA. THE COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS builds on that collection with a third disc that boasts eight unreleased performances. In addition, the set includes extensive session-by-session liner notes written by Dave Lewis. For the first time ever, it provides accurate details and notes about all of the band's BBC sessions.

Musical highlights on this new collection include the debut of a long-lost radio session that has achieved near-mythic status among fans. Originally broadcast in April 1969, the session included three songs: I Can't Quit You Baby, You Shook Me, and the only recorded performance of Sunshine Woman.

Also included are two unreleased versions of both Communication Breakdown and What Is And What Should Never Be. Separated by two years, the performances vividly demonstrate the young band's rapid evolution over a short period of time.

Jimmy Page spoke about the band's growth in an interview with Guitar World: The BBC Sessions show in graphic detail just how organic the group was. Led Zeppelin was a band that would change things around substantially each time it played...We were becoming tighter and tighter, to the point of telepathy.

Speaking with Wall of Sound, John Paul Jones added: We'd been on the road a lot by the time those sessions were recorded. The albums were always the starting point of the music, and then we'd take it out and expand it on the road. Then we'd come straight off the road into those BBC studios.

Recalling the BBC experience in an interview with Mojo, Robert Plant said: The whole thing was very quaint: the politeness of the audience, the technicians fumbling about, proper hallowed low-key introductions. Like there was some sort of holy moment about to occur.

In 1968, Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Page brought in Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Jimmy Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Page, Plant, and Jones, and along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham - took the stage at London's O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records' founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy award as Celebration Day, which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named Best Rock Album. The last two years saw an unprecedented reissue campaign of all nine of the band's studio albums, which achieved Top 10 chart status around the globe whilst also garnering 5-star reviews and other critical accolades along the way.

The Complete BBC Sessions (Deluxe Edition)

    Pressed on 180 Gram Vinyl

Newly Remastered With Supervision By Jimmy Page

Includes A Fifth LP Of Unreleased Audio

The Lady In The Van is a big screen adaptation of writer Alan Bennett's celebrated memoir, directed by Nicholas Hytner. The film tells the true story of the relationship between Bennett and the singular Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who 'temporarily' parked her van in Bennett's London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. Their unique story is funny, poignant and life-affirming.

Best known for his work in film and television, George Fenton is one of the UK's most successful composers, who has written scores for over 100 films and collaborated with some of the most influential filmmakers. His transition from television to film scoring began in 1982 with Richard Attenborough's biopic Gandhi for which he was nominated, with his collaborator Ravi Shankar, for an Academy Award.

About the work on The Lady In The Van, George Fenton said: ''The Lady In The Van was a unique experience for me, writing a score for a story about someone I actually know ( Alan Bennett) and someone I knew or at least met (Mary Shepherd ). The film not only tells an extraordinary story but also celebrates an extraordinary character - her triumphs and failings. I hope the music in some way belongs to her because music was at her heart. She was a musician, albeit a cantankerous one. In the score I've tried to show both sides. A great opportunity for me certainly and a special occasion thanks to the beautiful playing of the Philharmonia Orchestra The BBC Concert Orchestra and the brilliant pianist Clare Hammond.''

    Ain't Gonna Dance: Recordings 1980-1985

This is the first ever album of recordings by legendary U.K. band Case, formed in Croydon in 1979 after being introduced to each other by Slimy Toad from Johnny Moped. Case played the pubs of south London and finally released their one and only 7, the Wheat From The Chaff EP in 1983, it reached the top of the indie-charts and led to them being played heavily on BBC radio including plays by John Peel, Janice Long and Kid Jensen. They recorded a live Radio 1 In Concert which was broadcast twice.

Originally, in 1980, Case played primarily at a (fairly rough) pub in North Croydon, called The Star and built quite a following there before larger, occasionally more salubrious, venues beckoned. They famously played at The Rainbow in November of 1981 where smoke flares and buckets of maggots flew into the crowd as the band played, the Marquee Club (where they were banned for playing an encore, the only band to be banned for this since the Rolling Stones), Hammersmith Palais, 100 Club, the BBC Paris Theatre, ICA, and the Woolwich Tram Shed (and Chislehurst Caves!) amongst other less-prestigious venues. With better management who knows where Case may have ended up, as it is, they retain a legendary status among the legions of punk/ska fans and graffiti historians.

    This Is PIL

Public Image Limited's new self-funded 12-track set, their first in 20 years, is entitled This Is PIL, and will be released on the band's own label PIL Official via Cargo UK Distribution. All the new material was recorded in the UK last year at Steve Winwood's studio in the Cotswolds.

John Lydon talks about This Is PIL: "Well, 12 songs, where do I begin? Everything and anything that attracts my attention.'One Drop' is about my early youth in Finsbury Park. Fantastic! Hello, we're all teenagers don't you forget it! At any age, stay young. 'Lollipop Opera' is basically a beautiful bunch of background noise and music to sum up Britain and all its wonderful ambidextrousness! 'The Room I Am In' well that's about drugs and council flats. And there's a tragedy that still continues. 'I Must Be Dreaming' Well, you know, I must be to put up with these governments.

Following on from their monumental live performance at BBC Radio 6 Birthday Celebrations at Queen Elizabeth Hall on Friday March 16th which saw PIL include and baptize 2 new songs: Deeper Water and One Drop, PIL also played two very special shows at London's Heaven showcasing more tracks from the new album with The Times commenting "This was an evening of uncompromising art music, worthy of the total concentration of the audience."

The track One Drop has now also received airplay from BBC Radio 6, XFM and Absolute Radio. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time PIL's music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 Singles and 5 UK Top 20 Albums. With a shifting line-up and unique sound former Sex Pistol frontman John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978, guiding the band from their debut album First Issue in 1978 through to 1992's That What Is Not, before a 17 year hiatus. John then resurrected PIL in 2009 playing live worldwide. Now after 20 years yet another new and unique chapter is set to unfold in the shape of new PIL material!

Lu Edmonds, multi-instrumentalist and former guitarist in The Damned joined PIL in 1986 recording and playing on the album Happy? and co-writing the album 9, adding yet another dimension to the PIL sound. Bruce Smith, former drummer in The Pop Group and The Slits became percussionist for PIL, also in 1986, playing and recording on the albums Happy? and 9. Scott Firth, bass player/multi instrumentalist has collaborated and played with a variety of top musicians and bands including Steve Winwood, John Martyn, and Elvis Costello.

    Kindly Now (Awaiting Repress)

Keaton Henson will release his third official studio album, 'Kindly Now', via Play It Again Sam. Having sold out the Roundhouse earlier this year, Keaton has also confirmed plans for his biggest European headline shows to date, including a show at London's Palladium on November 18th.

'Alright' was written in Los Angeles shortly after the release of Henson's acclaimed second album, 'Birthdays'. Struggling with the apparent trade-off of having to put himself on display in order to make the music he loved, 'Alright' describes a very English way of grinning through pain (and also the sense that despite your world shifting so quickly, maybe you haven't changed very much at all). It's a stunning introduction to 'Kindly Now', a record which simultaneously broadens Keaton's canvas - more electronic in places, more classical in others - yet also reflects a life-long love of Randy Newman. 'Kindly Now' is ultimately Keaton Henson's most emotionally stripped-back album thus far, an unheroic and unsettling examination of past loves, the role of the artist, and owning up to your own destruction.

'Kindly Now' continues an extraordinary journey for Keaton Henson, who quietly released his limited edition, hand-made debut album 'Dear ' in 2012, before a surprise Zane Lowe play led to a flurry of investigation into Henson's identity and whereabouts. Despite choosing not to perform or promote his record in a conventional manner, his heavier second album 'Birthdays' saw Keaton make an astonishing return to the live arena: from playing one-on-one for fans, to cinemas, museums and churches internationally. Whilst beginning to write songs for 'Kindly Now', Keaton pushed himself in two extreme directions: first, he taught himself the art of orchestration and arrangement, and surprise-released the critically acclaimed collection of bedroom-classical music, 'Romantic Works', on the same day as his immediately-sold-out date at London's Meltdown Festival (at the request of James Lavelle). Then, having completed 'Kindly Now', Henson pushed the more electronic textures of some of his new songs into 'Behaving', his first album of wholly-electronic music (also staging a DIY, immersive production of Vivaldi's Four Seasons for two-sold out nights at Oval Space, in association with The Barbican).

On top of his work as a worldwide-exhibited visual artist, Keaton has recently released his first poetry collection ('Idiot Verse') and scored the forthcoming Balletboyz' feature-length World-War-One epic 'Young Men' in conjunction with the BBC (originally performed at Sadler's Wells, and resulting in Keaton conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra). This has all - one way or another - fed into 'Kindly Now': an album four years in the making, from an artist of whom all you can expect is the unexpected, but reliably unflinching.

    In The Club

Dave Swarbrick and Simon Nicol are hugely important figures in the history of British Folk Rock and Folk music since the 1960's. They were both key figures in British Folk Rock super group Fairport Convention and appeared on their seminal album Liege and Lief (1969) which initiated the electric folk movement. In fact BBC radio 2 listeners have voted Liege and Leaf the 'Most influential folk album of all time'.

Dave Swarbrick has been described the most influential British fiddle player bar none. After 1970 he emerged as Fairport Convention's leading figure and guided the band through a series of important albums until its disbandment in 1979. Simon Nicol was a founder member of Fairport Convention and is the only founding member still in the band... In 1973 he played on what is often considered one of the important folk/jazz albums of all time, John Martyn's Solid Air.

After Fairport Convention called it a day in 1979, Dave Swarbrick and Simon Nicol joined forces and spent the early eighties playing folk clubs throughout the UK as an acoustic duo. Their repertoire was drawn from various sources - including Fairport Convention material, Dave Swarbrick's late seventies/early eighties solo albums and also several tracks that were individual to the duo. The acoustic duo proved popular and recorded three albums. Two of those, the 1981 live album 'Live at the White Bear', and the 1984 studio effort 'Close to the Wind', were re-issued a few years back on Fairport Convention's own Woodworm Records label.

How To Die In The North

Lost treasure needn't be found in the distant past; the 21st century hides many artists who disappeared into the great wide yonder. BC Camplight is one such example. The alter-ego of American songwriter Brian Christinzio released albums in 2005 and 2007, both gems of a certain psych-pop vintage, combining eloquent songwriting with a self-destructive bent. Christinzio certainly knew it - he's described himself as, "the guy who blew it."

But this sublime talent with the keening vocal and fearless approach to lyrical introspection has another chance. His new album 'How To Die In The North', recorded in his newly adopted home of Manchester, England, is a fantastically rich, stylistically diverse trip. From dramatic, layered pop to a haunted take on Sixties sunshine-pop, from blue-eyed soul to speedy surf-pop, from sparser piano balladry to psychedelic showstoppers and a grand finale that's part Nilsson and part Broadway showtune.

Originally from New Jersey, Christinzio started playing piano aged just four, inspired by his mum's Jerry Lee Lewis and Nilsson records and his Dad's classical collection. Depression and crippling hypochondria clashed with captaining the football team and a penchant for boxing. Post-school, he fell in with people, "willing to go through shit to be a musician," which saw him relocate to Philadelphia where he occasionally played live with Philly faves The War On Drugs and guested on Sharon Van Etten's album 'Epic'.

He's already done two sessions for long-term fan Marc Riley at BBC 6 Music, which featured Christinzio's band of Mancunians who he met at The Castle Hotel pub, a watering hole in the city centre particularly popular with musicians. Christinzio also heard John Grant's album on the jukebox there, which encouraged him to approach Bella Union. Grant's cocktail of depression and self-sabotage thwarted an outrageous talent, but he took his second chance. The same deserves to happen to Christinzio, a similarly outsize, sharp and funny personality with a non-conformist streak. Far from dying, BC Camplight has been reborn in the North!

Operating in their own microcosm, DVA have stood out with an idiosyncratic sonic lexicon "pop for non-existing radios" or "folklore of non-existing nations", as they say. The duo - it takes two "dva" in Czech, to tango - Bára Kratochvílová and Jan Kratochvíl, have carved out a niche with their rich musical landscape. Established in 2006, the Czech project have toured the world, playing at esteemed festivals including SXSW, Eurosonic, Fusion, Incubate or OFF charming their growing global fanbase with smart sophisticated pop. In 2012, DVA toured the US twice and played more than 80 concerts in 10 countries. DVA's soundtrack for the computer game Botanicula scooped the main prize at Independent Games Festival awards in San Francisco last year, and was also nominated for the UK Sound & Music Awards.

DVA's much-acclaimed debut album Fonók was released in 2008 which was followed by Hu in 2010, and an eponymous soundtrack for the aforementioned video game in 2013 with a new record in the works. Their lyrics, written in an imaginary language, remain abstruse, yet universally comprehensible, while the music is similarly peculiarly universal an aural collage of "pop, kitchen beatbox, tango, cabaret, circus, radio noise", bearing their unmistakable stamp - quirky, but accessible. Championed by critics - from the BBC to national and specialist music press and beyond - and fans alike, DVA are one of the most successful Czech bands to emerge in the last decade. Aside from music, they are also active in theatre whose features they have transferred into the music as well. It is not surprising then that the project's seeds were sewn during the recording of the science fiction radio play by I. Asimov Victory Unintentional. DVA are a living and breathing aural organism, its own thing.

    BADBADNOTGOOD: III

BADBADNOTGOOD is a hip-hop jazz band from Toronto who's
doing a pretty admirable job at kicking the jazz world's ass back
    into relevancy."
    - Vice

BABADNOTGOOD's approach is much less refined and intentionally so, with a brash attitude and youthful energy winning out
    over technique."
    - NPR

They deconstruct the four bar loops, understanding how to work
crescendos by stretching out and reshaping the music into their
    own vision"
    - Huffington Post

BADBADNOTGOOD is a young supremely talented trio of musicians made
up of Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, and Alex Sowinski on
drums. Since their inception at Humber College's Music Performance program
in 2011, the three have challenged the rule book on improvised instrumental
music and taken jazz tradition into the future.

With early champions including acclaimed BBC broadcaster Gilles Peterson
and Tyler The Creator who helped fuel their discovery with a series of live jams
that instantly went viral and dubbed them the "Odd Trio", the band released
their first EP BBNG in June 2011 to wide praise. The marriage of jazz virtuosity
and hip hop source material offered a fresh take on the traditional "standard"
applied to hip hop classics by taking on choice cuts from the golden era rap
cannon and writing inspired arrangements for them instead of one-dimensional
    covers.

The band hit a landmark by introducing original material into their compositions with BBNG2 in 2012. New songs like "Rotten Decay", "Vices" or "UWM"
carried on the proud heritage of musical juxtaposition by bringing together jazz,
hip hop, punk, and dance music into vigorous balance. Since then, they've won
praise from the four corners of the globe and collaborated with Frank Ocean,
Earl Sweatshirt, MF Doom, Pharaoh Monch and RZA among many. Their notorious live performances have brought fans across the whole musical spectrum
together, taking the band around the world from Coachella to Glastonbury.

Now, the inseparable friends are prepping to release their biggest project to date
III on prodigious young label Innovative Leisure, a highly-anticipated project
ushering in the group's newest explorations which are proving to be limitless.
