Nabuma RubberbandSwedish synthpop quartet Little Dragon have announced the release of fourth album Nabuma Rubberband in 2014, their first since their 2011 breakthrough album Ritual Union.
Contrary to their dancier past work, the group said in a statement that Nabuma Rubberband is inspired by Janet Jackson slow jams Yukimi used to listen to wandering around Gothenburg during the unrelenting winter.
When you put some of Janet's really slow stuff on you feel like you're floating, frontwoman Yukimi Nagano said. That feeling really influenced me and maybe that's why there are quite a lot of slow jams on the record. In the past we've been a bit self-conscious about making slow jams after 'Twice.' Then we wanted to make dance music which we did with Machine Dreams and then Ritual Union still had a dance vibe, but with this album it wasn't about that. The intention was about whatever we felt strongly about.
The band started working on the album early last year in their hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden following extensive touring behind 2011's Ritual Union.
I think when we started, we had no vision whatsoever, singer Yukimi Nagano told Rolling Stone last year. We just wanted to make the ball start rolling and just brainstorm ideas and see what comes up and then make plans thereafter. I think a lot of visions came through. Our sound is wide - it's not just one particular style - so we dove into different worlds. New worlds, new spaces we haven't been to before. There definitely are elements of sonically romantic tracks. It feels like there are different moods and we're exploring ourselves a bit.

Season HighNow comes Little Dragon's most complete full-length album effort to date (Season High). It's a set of exquisite personal songs that showcases Nagano's balance of numerous soulful vocal traditions, while blending the group's far-flung influences into a singular, post-'80s synthetic soul-club sound. Coming as it does at a time when pop-club culture is exploring more emotional and soulful approaches, and when contemporary R&B is re-engaging with the broader 4/4.1. Celebrate

99.9%Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in the city of Montreal, 23
year-old Canadian artist Kaytranada is widely regarded as one of
the most important new producers in the musical landscape today.
Since the age of fourteen, when he first began to DJ and when his
brother introduced him to music production software, his output has
been relentless. As he explains, "after he showed me the basics,
from that day on I couldn't stop making beats," pumping out a beat
a day for the next couple of years and soon after self-releasing a series
of EPs and beat tapes that quickly began to expand his reach.
Single releases like "Drive Me Crazy" with Vic Mensa and "Leave
Me Alone" with Shay Lia soon spread his name like wildfire and
gained listens reaching far into the millions. In addition to that
he's produced for artists such as Mobb Deep, Kali Uchis, Freddie
Gibbs, The Internet, & Talib Kweli and remixed the likes of Disclosure,
Pharrell, Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, and others. Kaytranada
soon cemented his reputation and his sound; an undeniable swing
of the drums comparable to J Dilla's, a signature soulful touch in the
melodies, and a healthy dose of funky bass lines. Last year he was
tapped by the legendary Rick Rubin who has acted as a mentor,
eventually signing him to a publishing relationship.

Stone Rollin'Stone Rollin' is the fifth studio album from Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and record producer Raphael Saadiq. Known for defying the confines of working within one genre, this standard bearer for old school R&B returns with a new release that celebrates the classic sounds of 60s and 70s soul with a futuristic twist.
Featuring ten new tracks, Stone Rollin is the follow up to Saadiqs 2008 solo album The Way I See It, which boasted four Billboard R&B chart singles and was nominated for three Grammy Awards including Best R&B Album. Recorded at his studio complex the Blakeslee Recording Company in Los Angeles, Raphael Saadiq played bass, mellotron, keys, guitar, percussion and even drums on most of the tracks.
Opening with the stomping Heart Attack, the albums other standout cuts include the stunning Go To Hell, featuring his studio squad of musicians who are melodically complimented by an angelic choir, the evocative Dixieland number Day Dreams, featuring Robert Randolph who plays steel guitar on the track, and Just Dont, which includes a guest appearance from one of Saadiqs indie rock favorites Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon). Also making an appearance on that same song is one of Saadiqs idols Larry Dunn (Earth, Wind and Fire), who plays piano and contributes an epic Moog solo.1. Heart Attack

" a spacey, smoldering update on '90s R&B, and a voice that's high and fluttery and commanding "
"NAO is one of those artists that is pushing forth an exciting new era of R&B and soul."
NAO's debut album For All We Know will be released via RCA Records and is set to be one of the defining records of 2016.
Her emergence as one of the most adored new singers of the year has been as fluid and elegant as one of her vocal phrases. Now she has delivered her highly anticipated debut For All We Know, a transcendent set of 18 songs. Woozy, spacey funk, shot through with her effortless breath-taking toplines, part neo-soul, part UK bass, part funk rock - all at a sensual, stepping R&B pace.
The record features fan favorites "Girlfriend," "Inhale Exhale," "Bad Blood" and "Fool To Love" as well as incredible unheard tracks like "Trophy" - where NAO collaborates with A.K. Paul again - and "Get To Know Ya" co-produced by XL Recordings' Jungle. Other co-producers (NAO is credited as producer on 17 of the 18 tracks) include her good friends John Calvert ("In The Morning," "Blue Wine," "We Don't Give A"), GRADES ("Bad Blood," "Fool To Love," "Inhale Exhale," "Girlfriend") and LOXE ("Adore You," "Give Me A Little").
NAO grew up in South Woodford, East London, listening to gospel in her local Evangelical church, her brother's jungle UK garage and her sister's '90s and '00s R&B - going on to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She starting writing songs in her mid-twenties after a few years of teaching school kids to sing and doing backing vocal gigs for the likes of Pulp and Kwabs.
Inspired by Little Dragon, the ideas and words flowed, and she soon began working on her own songs, resulting in her 2014 debut EP, So Good. The EP's title track, made with A.K. Paul, whizzed around the world accumulating millions of plays on Soundcloud. NAO's 2015 follow-up EP, February 15, contained the single "Zillionaire" which was featured in a Samsung Galaxy commercial. By January 2016 she placed third in the high-profile BBC Sound Poll and her incredible year continues with a recent performance on Later with Jools Holland, the cover of The Guardian and rave reviews from Fader, Essence, Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, and more.
For All We Know is the record of a one-of-a-kind artist destined for greatness. A record you can dip your head into for a 360-degree spectrum of kaleidoscopic digi-funk.LP 1

Mehliana: Taming the Dragon
Two 140-gram LPs Pressed At Pallas MFG In Diepholz, Germany
Includes CD Of The Album
Nonesuch Records releases the debut album from the electric duo of Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana, Mehliana: Taming the Dragon. The two have been performing for several years, including a brief US tour this fall and an ongoing European tour, with Mehldau playing Fender Rhodes and synthesizers and Guiliana on drums and effects, as they are on the record. Mehliana comprises 12 original tunes-six written by the duo and six written by Mehldau-and was engineered and mixed by Greg Koller (Jon Brion, Kanye West). The vinyl edition of the album includes two 140-gram LPs pressed at Pallas MFG in Diepholz, Germany, and a CD of the album.
Brad Mehldau played in a number of different ensembles, including label mate Joshua Redman's quartet, before becoming a bandleader himself in the 1990s. The Brad Mehldau Trio, which tours the world extensively, made eight acclaimed recordings for Warner Bros., including the five widely praised Art of the Trio albums with former drummer Jorge Rossy (released as a boxed set by Nonesuch in 2011). The pianist's nine years with Nonesuch have been equally productive, beginning with the solo disc Live in Tokyo and including six trio records Day Is Done, House on Hill, Live, Ode, and Where Do You Start, as well as a collaboration with soprano RenÉe Fleming, Love Sublime; a chamber ensemble album, Highway Rider; two collaborations with label mate Pat Metheny, Metheny Mehldau and Quartet, the latter of which also includes Trio members Jeff Ballard and Larry Grenadier; a CD/DVD set of live solo performances, Live in Marciac; and collaborations with genre-crossing musicians on Modern Music, with composer/pianist Kevin Hays and composer/arranger Patrick Zimmerli. Additionally, he produced saxophonist Joshua Redman's 2013 release Walking Shadows.
According to Modern Drummer, Mark Guiliana is "at the forefront of an exciting new style of drumming." The New Jersey native's unique and un-compromised approach to playing the drums has earned him international acclaim as both a leader and a sideman. In 2004, Guiliana created HEERNT, an "experimental-garage-jazz" trio based in New York. The band's debut record, Locked in a Basement, was called the record "the most exuberant, dramatic, beautiful, sassy, genre-busting little outing that I've heard since I don't know when" by legendary drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson). As a sideman, Guiliana's longest partnership has been with world-renowned jazz bassist Avishai Cohen. He toured all over the world with Cohen from 2003 until 2008, performing on six studio records and a live DVD recorded at the Blue Note in Manhattan. Guiliana has also recorded and/or performed with Meshell Ndegeocello, Dhafer Youssef, Wayne Krantz, Matisyahu, Jazz Mandolin Project, Jason Lindner, Brad Shepik, Bobby McFerrin, Tigran Hamasyan, and many more. His debut solo record, Beat Music, which was co-produced by Ndegeocello, was released in the spring of 2013. Guiliana plays Gretsch drums, Sabian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks, and Evans drumheads.1. Plastic BeachWe rejoin the band as Murdoc the bass player is gathering musicians and collaborators to create the new album. The new Gorillaz empire is set on a strange floating island deep in the South Pacific at the furthest point from any land mass on the planet. Introducing Plastic Beach, an island made entirely of plastic, debris and the washed up remnants of humanity. Amongst the collection of historical remains and discarded rubble, Murdoc finds a book detailing the history of Man right up to the present day, except the last chapter The End of Days has been torn out, the future is missing. Time to get the band together, finish this album and have fun while the sun still shines. To complete the task, Murdoc has assembled some other musicians to join the band at Plastic Beach, these select people would join him on his floating Hellfire Club, as musicians, players and contributors in this wonky, damaged Plastic opera. !K7 are proud to announce the forthcoming album of Will Saul's moniker CLOSE. Within the world of electronic music, Will Saul is perhaps best known for Aus Music and Simple Records, Getting Closer will be Will's first full-length album since 'Space Between', released under his given name back in 2005.
Within the world of electronic music, Will Saul is perhaps best known for Aus Music and Simple Records, the labels he set up and has A&Red for over a decade. Between them there have been over 100 vinyl releases from the inuential likes of Joy Orbison, Carl Craig, Pearson Sound, Scuba and Actress, as well as EPs that helped to break upcoming talents like Bicep, Dusky, Midland and George FitzGerald.
Getting Closer will be Will's first full-length album since 'Space Between', released under his given name back in 2005. He has slowly and anonymously leaked CLOSE material into the public sphere over the last 12 months; including remixes of Fink, Little Dragon and Hotush boss Scuba. The alias was initially conceived in order to release music that would be judged on merit alone, rather than on the name to which it was attached, but following great reactions was increasingly difcult to keep secret.
Proceeded mid April by first single 'Beam Me Up' Feat. Charlene Soraia and Scuba (with remixes by George FitzGerald, Hercules and Love Affair and Scuba) the album marks a big evolution in Saul's sound, leaning away from bass and house and more toward a world of dark yet idyllic pop.
The album's title 'Getting Closer' refers quite literally to its creation process, which was distilled through a number of collaborative layers1. I Died 1000 Times Feat. Charlene Soraia & October

The new album from Tropics, aka 27 year old Chris Ward, looks
outwards, armed with a newfound confidence that foregrounds his
vocal performance and songwriting.
It's a musical progression that mirrors a personal one: the early Tropics
output was all made in the idyllic, if isolated setting of Ward's
grandmother's empty house in the seaside town of Southsea, which
he moved into after graduating from university to focus on writing
and recording. He was alone there - "like, really alone. For days, I had
literally no distractions." Having moved to London in 2013, Ward now
splits his time between the city and the road, having played in
America, Mexico and across Europe throughout the past year with his
live band Keith Vaz and Morgan Hislop.
Tropics' new full-length Rapture is the culmination of this journey. A multi-instrumentalist
from an early age, Ward has always drawn on his musical upbringing
when composing, but this time around he's pushed himself to develop
a fuller sound than ever with the help of Vaz, Hislop and specialist jazz
drummer Gillan McLaughlin. Taking influence from Beach Boys, Max
Roach and Arthur Russell, Ward has crafted an album that fuses his
love of avant-garde percussion, 70s and 80s singer-songwriters such
as Peter Gabriel known for pop-leaning hooks, and deep production
that takes cues from ambient music.
The very first iterance of the record is the crystal clear vocal that kicks
off 'Blame'. Ward explains that performing live so much caused him to
step outside of his comfort zone: "I used to be a bit dubious about
using my vocal too much, and felt like my strength was in sampling
and playing keys. It's kind of switched now in that I feel a lot more
comfortable just holding a microphone and losing myself." Inspired by
the vocal performances of the likes of Little Dragon and Innovative
Leisure labelmates Rhye, Ward also found a new lease of life in
experimenting with more androgynous vocals.
But even as his sound has greater scope than ever before, Rapture is
still a deeply personal endeavour. The majority of the songs started
life in Ward's home, in front of a piano, before being built on in the
studio. The first half of the record is a chronicle of a whirlwind
relationship: the piano-led title track "Rapture" addresses this theme,
striving for the throes of ecstatic happiness but never quite making it
there. "It's got this feeling of hope and joy, even though it is coming
from a sad place," says Ward. "It's about the struggles in your life to
get to where you want to be." Elsewhere, lyrics such as, "You ran away
just like my luck did" hint at Ward's love for literature and his poetic
touch, something he further explores on the album's second side.
Later, the album grows more ambient and the literary references more
apparent. "Gloria" takes its name from the character of a frustrated
wife in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and Damned. Likewise,
"Torrents of Spring" - also named for a work of 20th century American
fiction - builds to a sax-led climax over two painstaking minutes, and
the penultimate "House of Leaves" is "a really slow-burning ambient
instrumental; it's kind of a nod to the first stuff I made".
Whether filling dance floors or simply filling up your headspace,
Rapture is an intricate and intimate record that presents the many
faces of Tropics in a more revealing light than ever before.1. Blame

Here Be Monsters
"When they didn't know quite what was there, they put Here Be Monsters. When I think of where my career has gone over the last 35 years, it's usually in that area - off the map." --Jon Langford
Here Be Monsters finds acclaimed musician/visual artist Jon Langford and his band Skull Orchard scanning the outskirts of popular culture, its title born of medieval cartographers' term for the dragons, sea serpents, and other mythical beasties that reside beyond the boundaries of the known universe. This new album will feature a unique piece of artwork specific to each track printed on individual inserts included with copies of the CD. Best known for his work in the The Mekons and the Waco Brothers, Langford has been a leading pioneer in the assimilation of folk/country music into punk rock since the genre's first evolution over 30 years ago.
The album sees the Welsh-born, Chicago-based singer/songwriter, bandleader, producer, painter, and poet plotting a clear-eyed, sharp-elbowed course through such far-flung subjects as alternative hierarchies and astronomy, perpetual war for perpetual profit, the culture of detachment, middle age, fatherhood, fame, and the fleetingness of love. The subtext of the album is maybe the things our civilization thinks of as fixed and immovable might actually be redundant/obsolete/discredited and it's up to us to question and find new rocks to be washed up on , says Langford, who called in Mekons/Waco Brothers veteran Mike Hagler (My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Neko Case, Billy Bragg) to record this album at Chicago's Kingsize Sound Labs. Skull Orchard used to be a fairly solitary activity - songs that didn't fit anywhere else - stuff that was too Welsh or personal to bother the Mekons or Wacos with, says Langford, but something happened with the band I formed to tour with the previous record. It turned into a real group, so this is much more of a band project than any of the solo things I've done before.
Also known for being a prolific visual artist, Langford designed all the artwork for Here Be Monsters himself, including individual designs for each track that will be showcased on separate inserts in the CD and in a collage on the LP jacket. This album really brings the art and the songs together - a chicken/egg which came first situation. The songs are very visual and in some cases came directly from the paintings, continued Langford. Star maps, strange creatures, sympathetic monsters, monsters we have created - the little poem at the top of the album is all about that.1. Summer Stars
