    Let's Get It On

Let's Get It On is the thirteenth studio album by Marvin Gaye. Serving as Gaye's first venture into the funk genre and romance-themed music, "Let's Get It On" incorporates smooth soul, doo-wop, and quiet storm. It has been noted by critics for its sexually suggestive lyrics, and was cited by one writer as one of the most sexually charged albums ever recorded. Continuing with its vinyl reissue campaign, UMe will be reissuing this classic on 180 gram vinyl.

    Let Me Get By

Let Me Get By features ten new, original songs that together stand as a testament to the hard work, independent spirit, and full-on commitment of the entire Tedeschi Trucks Band. The album's artwork-a Mongolian golden eagle caught a moment after flying from its handler's glove-and even the album title itself reflect the sense of total dedication that serves as the driving force behind TTB.

Some songs you may have heard on stage in 2015, and some others that were deliberately held back for this occasion. Susan's vocals and Derek's guitar soar, tumble and glide through each song, as powerful as ever, even in the album's most understated moments. --tedeschitrucksband

    Let Go

Nada Surf is reissuing individual vinyl versions of their albums The Proximity Effect, Let Go and The Weight Is A Gift via Barsuk Records. The albums have been out of print on vinyl for many years, and the band wanted to make them available to fans who couldn't get their hands on the box-set.

Nada Surf's subtle and enchanting 2002 opus Let Go has a little something for everyone, with acoustic numbers Blizzard of '77, Fruit Fly and Neither Heaven nor Space, power pop cuts like Happy Kid and upbeat electric fare such as Hi-Speed Soul. Let Go proved that Nada Surf was for real and that they were a rightful heir of classic American rock.

Let's Cry And Do Pushups At The Same Time

Torn Hawk, the alias of Luke Wyatt, makes visceral and toxic music
somehow feel sunkissed and melodic. His beats can sound as though they
were programmed by William Burroughs, garbled and diced to the point
    of mesmerism. - Pitchfork

A Brooklyn-based audio-visual artist whose distinctive approach to both
mediums is defined by a narrative-driven, trippy and decayed aesthetic
that's been described by the man himself as 'mulch'. - JunoPlus

Let's Cry And Do Pushups At The Same Time is the most
recent statement from Torn Hawk aka producer and video
artist Luke Wyatt. It's difficult to neatly categorize Wyatt's
genre-refracting productions. The nuts & bolts are built from
live guitar, drum machines, junky synths, and layers of samples
which are smeared into a cohesive whole. Wyatt's guitar moves
between the meditations of Manuel Göttsching, the jangle-grid
of The Chameleons and the saturation of Medicine. Throw in
the melodrama of a sax on a Don Henley hit, and you get a
better idea of Torn Hawk's playfully sincere sensibility

    Let It Rock

"Crawling From The Wreckage Of A Saturday Night," the debut
single from LET IT ROCK, The Connection's brand new full-length
LP, is the band's THIRD "Coolest Song in the World" in under a
year on Little Steven's Underground Garage. It's a kick-ass rocker
about a scene we all know very well: Where's my wallet, where's my keys? / I can't understand why I do these things /
My head is pounding my throat is dry / I'm crawling from the wreckage of a Saturday night
The Underground Garage is also putting LET IT ROCK's swaggering "Girls In This Town" into heavy rotation, declaring,
"The production on these songs is great; I mean fantastically great. These guys get it." High praise indeed from the driving
force behind America's hippest radio station.

The Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song. The Connection, New England's newest hit-makers, have carried on the tradition, naming the band for a Stones rocker to bring fans across the world a fresh take on the best of the
British Invasion sound. LET IT ROCK features a dozen original Marino/Palmer power-pop/rock gems. From the
breakneck-paced opener, "Wrong Side of 25," to the seductive melody and breathtakingly cool guitar solo of
Beatles-influenced She's A Keeper, to the driving, Exile-era power of "Girls In This Town" -- "There's so many girls in this
town/You can't let just one hold you down"-- to the infectious harmonies and pure, propulsive beauty of The Way Love
    Should Be,

The Connection bring passion, melodic hooks, and more than a few very cool surprises to this rip-roaring rock
    & roll record.
Yes, LET IT ROCK recaptures the sheer exuberance of the British Invasion, but make no mistake, The Connection sound
like The Connection and no one else. LET IT ROCK is both familiar and fresh, timeless and new, an album of feel-good,
time-to-dance, original rock & roll of the highest quality. Just a taste of the slide guitar driven screamer, "Thinking Abou t
Leaving," and you'll be thinking about leaving LET IT ROCK on the turntable full-time!

    180 Gram Clear Vinyl

Recorded during their American tour in late 1969, and centered around live versions of material from the Beggars Banquet-Let It Bleed era. Often acclaimed as one of the top live rock albums of all time, its appeal has dimmed a little today. The live versions are reasonably different from the studio ones, but ultimately not as good, a notable exception being the long workout of Midnight Rambler, with extended harmonica solos and the unforgettable section where the pace slows to a bump-and-grind crawl. Some Stones aficionados, in fact, prefer a bootleg from the same tour (Liver Than You'll Ever Be, to which this album was unleashed in response), or their amazing the-show-must-go-on performance in the jaws of hell at Altamont (preserved in the Gimme Shelter film). Fans who are unconcerned with picky comparisons such as these will still find Ya-Ya's an outstanding album, and it's certainly the Stones' best official live recording.

    What's Left To Let Go

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Goodtime Boys are one of Bridge Nine Records' newest signees. Signing to a hardcore label such as B9 carries with it an expectation that Goodtime Boys immediately buck. The band share more in common with La Dispute and Pianos Become the Teeth than other B9 bands like Foundation or Expire.

What's Left to Let Go starts off with Bloom, which has a chilling relaxed guitar intro. However when the full band come in, it kicks it up a notch with a melodic but upbeat rhythm. Then vocalist Alex Pennie comes in with his powerful vocals and really brings in the full sound of the band. I immediately noticed the accent on the vocalist, but it's a good thing as it makes the band sound different than most bands of this hard-to-name genre that has been gaining a lot of ground in the hardcore community. His lyrics are immediately at the forefront of everything, as well they should be, being powerful and emotional. The rest of the song keeps up this swing of going from relaxed to very powerful and back again like a lot of the songs on this record. However, it doesn't get monotonous or boring as the band have a good enough writing ability to keep the music interesting.

In the middle of the record the song Rest cools things off a bit coming in with a simple drum beat and an almost haunting guitar melody that fit the lyrics and vocal delivery perfectly. And that's the great simplicity of What's Left to Let Go; Goodtime Boys aren't afraid to use a pattern and vocal style that has been established, but do their own thing with it to try and keep it interesting. This album is technically a double EP and not a singular LP as the first five songs were previously released on the Are We Now, Or Have We Ever Been EP. However, if I had not known this I would not have figured it out from listening to the record as the songs flow so fluidly it sounds like one album. This is partially due to the band's cohesive writing and also partially due to those songs and the new songs being mixed by Defeater guitarist and Getaway Recordings engineer Jay Maas.

    Let Them Fall In Love

The best-selling and most-awarded female gospel artist of all time, CeCe Winans has long since cemented her status as one of the most accomplished and celebrated women in modern music history. It'd be easy to look back and rest on such illustrious laurels, but Winans has always had her eyes fixed firmly on the future, so it should come as little surprise that she jumped at the opportunity when her son, Alvin Love III, proposed she record the generation-bridging new album 'Let Them Fall In Love.' Her first in nearly a decade, the record finds Winans returning to the studio with gusto, working for roughly three years to craft her most confident, adventurous collection yet.

Recording and performing as both a solo artist and as a duo with her brother BeBe, CeCe has influenced a generation of gospel and secular vocalists over the course of her astonishing career. Her mantel today holds a staggering 10 GRAMMY Awards, 20 Dove Awards, and 7 Stellar Awards. She's been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Nashville Music City Walk of Fame, in addition to being named a Trailblazer of Soul by BMI and garnering multiple NAACP Image Awards, Soul Train Awards, Essence Awards, and more. She's sold in excess of 5 million albums in the US, topping the Gospel charts repeatedly while crossing over with smashes like "Count On Me," her stunning duet with Whitney Houston from the multi-platinum 'Waiting To Exhale' soundtrack, which sold 2 million copies and cracked the Top 10 on the Pop, R&B, and Adult Contemporary charts. She touched millions more with inspirational performances everywhere from Oprah to The White House, and even showed off her acting chops on television series like '7th Heaven' and 'Doc.'

While collaborating with family is nothing new for Winans, the recording sessions for 'Let Them Fall In Love" found the Detroit native working for the very first time with her son in the producer's chair.

"Alvin shared with me a vision that he had of a record that was bold and a little different than anything I'd ever done before," remembers Winans. "When I heard the songs he'd been writing, I got so excited. He has great ears and great style and a unique way of writing and thinking things through. It made it extra special that two generations of family were able to come together on this record."

Bringing together generations is Winans' specialty, and she drew inspiration for the album from her extensive work with the young men and women who attend the church she and her husband founded in Nashville.

"It's really important to me to share where I've been and to encourage young people to understand that they can go even further," reflects Winans. "I wanted to make an album that ties us together, something that young people would be able to learn from and be inspired by."

Written primarily by Alvin and co-produced by Alvin along with Winans' long-time collaborator Tommy Sims (Garth Brooks, Michael McDonald, Bonnie Raitt), 'Let Them Fall In Love' was mixed by Dae Bennett (Tony Bennett, Amy Whinehouse, Olivia Newton John) and Jimmy Douglass (Pharrell Williams, Micheal Buble). The album, recorded both in Nashville and New York City, finds Winans more confident than ever before, merging eras and genres in a glorious blend of past and present that simultaneously recalls the heyday of Motown and still sounds undeniably modern. Big band horns meet strings from the Nashville String Machine as Winans' soaring voice hits new heights, fueled in part by the encouragement and motivation of her son.

"Alvin was hard on me in the studio," remembers Winans. "He'd really work me during the songs, and I knew that was a good thing because it meant he was pressing me to get the best performances possible. Now I listen back and I know he was right. It was so important to get the right interpretation of each song."

Winans is able to inhabit each song on the record so fully in part because she's lived their stories. She describes album opener "He's Never Failed Me Yet" as "my personal testimony," "Run To Him" as her frequent act of refuge, and "Marvelous" as a musical embodiment of the black church. On "Hey Devil!," she's joined by fellow gospel powerhouses The Clark Sisters for a playful rebuke of temptation, while "Peace From God" is a prayer for light in an increasingly dark world, and "Lowly" is a lesson about pride and humility aimed at the young men who might need it most. Winans' eclectic ability shines through on the pedal steel country waltz of "Why Me," a song she discovered when she was invited to perform it live with its writer, Kris Kristofferson.

"I ended up getting sick and I couldn't perform it with him at the show, but my son heard it and knew it would be perfect for the album," explains Winans. "It's so different for me in this whole new field of country music, but it spoke to my heart and I felt like it was written just for me."

On the album's other cover, "Dancing in The Spirit," Winans is joined by Hezekiah Walker and his choir for a jubilant celebration, while "Never Have To Be Alone" finds her taking a far more somber approach, singing to the young members of her congregation. It's the album's closer and title track, though, that seems to light Winans up more than any other.

"That was the first song for this album and I knew right away that I wanted the record to be named 'Let Them Fall In Love,'" she explains. "I told my son that it had to be the heartbeat of the album. There's a lot of different styles and a lot of strong messages on there, but all of them are to bring us to this point. It's why I came back and recorded another album, to express my heart and my desire that people young and old can listen and fall in love with the higher power, fall in love with love, and fall in love with faith and joy and peace."

    Let Yourself Go (Pure Pleasure)

Let Yourself Go is an exceptional collection of 13 tunes written by the cream of popular song writers -- Berlin, Gershwin Brothers, and others -- honoring Fred Astaire's contributions to the vocal art. With his low key, narrow ranged voice, Astaire probably introduced and/or made popular more songs that were destined to become standard entries in the Great American Songbook than any other artist. Kent delivers this selective play list with one of three musical combinations, just piano, with piano plus rhythm, and with a larger aggregation which includes sax and guitar. Irrespective of the instrumental context, all of the tunes are delivered with Stacey's pleasant nasal twang to help her create the impression that the lyrics she's singing are part of an intimate one on one conversation with each listener. There's nothing over dramatic on this album. No gimmicks, just a voice as engaging as any on the scene conveying the meaning of a melody in the tradition of the person she is honoring, the inestimable Astaire.

Kent's pianist, David Newton, is one of the premiere accompanists in the U.K., having worked with such top flight singers as Tina May. He and Kent display their musical attraction to each other on a relaxed, suave rendition of Isn't This a Lovely Day and They Can't Take That Away From Me, where Kent and Newton gently joust as they deliver an elegant rendition of this tune. 'Relaxed' is as good a word as any to describe the atmosphere for this session. There's nothing frenetic here. S'Wonderful, usually performed at a fast pace, gets a languid, medium tempo treatment with Newton's piano, an effortlessly lilting Colin Oxley guitar and Jim Tomlinson's tenor sharing the mike with Kent. A Fine Romance is about as upbeat as it gets, with Oxley's cleaned line guitar setting the pace. Newton engages in a bit of Erroll Garner-like humming during his solo on this tune. Tomlinson's romantic tenor is featured on Let Yourself Go and They All Laughed. On One for My Baby, he brings out his clarinet, using the middle register to help create the proper melancholy mood for this definitive 'drowning my sorrows in booze' tune.

This is another excellent album by American born, U.K.-based singer Stacey Kent, and is happily recommended.

    Musicians:

    • Stacey Kent (vocal)

    • Jim Tomlinson (tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, clarinet)

    • Colin Oxley (guitar)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Marks The 15th Anniversary Of The Band, Founded And Led By Efrim Menuck Of Godspeed You! Black Emperor

First New SMZ Full Length Since GYBE's Return To Action In 2011

Recorded In Quebec By Greg Norman (electrical Audio)

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (SMZ) has traced a barbed-wire arc of
genre-defying protest music since its inception in 1999. Formed by Efrim Menuck, with
Thierry Amar and Sophie Trudeau, the initial iteration of the band was a predominantly
instrumental trio that forged a more intimate and ragged chamber-punk than Godspeed
You! Black Emperor, in which group all three founding SMZ members also played (and
continue to play). Through seven albums from 2000-2010, SMZ expanded its line-up and
shifted towards an increasing use of lead and group vocals, with Menuck penning politically charged lyrics to anchor long-form multi-movement compositions that juxtaposed electrified
guitars against a 4-piece string section of violins, cello and contrabass.

Most recently, SMZ has pared back to five players, with Menuck's massive spectrum spanning electric guitar sound emerging as the spine around which two violins, bass (now
more often electric than acoustic) and drums are deployed. SMZ have managed a handful
of short tours in the past couple of years (in the gaps between GYBE commitments) and
as anyone who has seen the band in its recent incarnation can attest, their current sound
is more honed, laser-guided and bone-rattling than ever, melding hardcore, blues, garage
and dark metal influences that have nothing to do with anything so quaint as "post-rock"
(a tag the group has always and rightly rejected).

Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything is the first definitive document of
the band's newfound sound and style as a quintet. It's also their first single LP-length
work since the band's debut record as a trio almost 15 years ago, and features road tested pummeling rock-outs "Fuck Off Get Free (For The Island Of MontrÉal)", "Take
Away These Early Grave Blues" and "What We Loved Was Not Enough" alongside the
previously unheard lullabyes/minuets "Little Ones Run" and "Rains Thru The Roof At Thee
Grande Ballroom (For Capital Steeze)" and the album centerpiece "Austerity Blues" with
its closing lyric "Lord let my son live long enough to see that mountain torn down"
sung in varying incarnations throughout the second half of this 14-minute epic.

This lyric in many ways encapsulates Menuck's unflinching take on a world replete with
shabbiness, greed and injustice, seen through the lens of parenthood, mortality, endurance
and defiance. There are few other musicians who deliver social critique with the courage
and honesty of lines like "All our cities gonna burn / All our bridges gonna snap / All our
pennies gonna rot / Lightning roll across our tracks / All our children gonna die". Feel-good
music this is not; but neither can it reductively be tagged apocalyptic or world-weary.
Fuck Off Get Free rages with scorn and with hope, utterly passionate but pointedly
unromantic. Thee Silver Mt. Zion once again demonstrates, like few other bands working
today, that there is much to fight for and against, and plenty more fight songs to sing.

Don't Want To Let You Down

Sharon Van Etten has never needed much room to make a grand statement. With four albums during the
last six years, she's become one of music's most astute new cartographers of the heart, able to capture
emotional trials and triumphs with incisive lines and a voice that loses nothing in the translation and
transmission of feelings. Her second record, epic, needed only seven tracks to live up to its title. 2012's
Tramp and last year's Are We There, went longer, but Van Etten managed still to squeeze enormous
sentiments into especially small spaces. From start to rising stardom, Van Etten has forever understood the
    impact of economy

It should come as no surprise, then, that the five-song EP I Don't Want to Let You Down offers documents
of surrender and disappointment, admission and longing in only 22 minutes. Produced by Van Etten and
Stewart Lerman, who also helmed Are We There, these songs are as sophisticated as anything Van Etten has
ever done. Supported by a string section during "I Always Fall Apart," Van Etten's voice rises alongside her
piano. Her prismatic harmonies betray the terror of the song's central admission and one of the new lyrical
cornerstones of her catalogue: "You know I always fall apart/It's not my fault/It's just my flaw/It's who I am."
During the title track, she slowly pushes her voice past an introductory murmur, as if scanning her
surroundings for the resolve to be stronger and more steadfast than she knows she has been. Building across
four minutes, the desperation of the title is expressed through guitars that get bigger, harmonies that get
broader. The chorus is a sing-along commandment, an indelible promise Van Etten makes to be better. The
War on Drugs' Adam Granduciel and David Hartley join Antibalas' Stuart Bogie, Peter Broderick and
Heather Woods-Broderick for "Pay My Debts." The longest song here, it's a cinematic number that smolders
like shoegaze before climaxing into an inescapable seesaw refrain.

The EP ends with a live rendition of "Tell Me." A demo from Tramp, but backed here by her four-piece
touring band, the tune becomes a kind of battle cry for respect and a charged pronouncement of Van Etten's
cultivated powers. It's a map of the singer's progression from an acoustic songwriter to a bona fide
bandleader, a reminder of the poignancy and efficiency her work has long paired.

    I Want You

The thirteenth studio album by American soul musician Marvin Gaye, released March 16, 1976, on Motown-subsidiary label Tamla Records. Recording sessions for the album took place throughout 1975 and 1976 at Motown Recording Studios, also known as Hitsville West, and Gaye's personal studio Marvin's Room in Los Angeles, California. The album has often been noted by critics for producer Leon Ware's exotic, low-key production and the erotic, sexual themes in his and Gaye's songwriting. The album's cover artwork adapts neo-mannerist artist Ernie Barnes's famous painting The Sugar Shack (1971).
I Want You consisted of Marvin Gaye's first recorded studio material since his highly successful and well-received album Let's Get It On (1973). While it marked a change in musical direction for Gaye, departing from his trademark Motown and doo-wop-influenced sound for funky, light-disco soul, the album maintained and expanded on his previous work's sexual themes. I Want You has earned retrospective recognition from writers and music critics as one of Gaye's most controversial works and influential to such musical styles as disco, quiet storm, R&B, and neo soul.

The Soulful Moods Of Marvin Gaye

The Soulful Moods of Marvin Gaye is the debut studio album by Marvin Gaye, originally released in 1961, and the second long-playing album released by Motown.

In the years after the release of this album Marvin Gaye became one of the greatest and most influential singers in the fields of soul and R&B is hardly a matter for discussion. What kind of impression the listening public might have picked up from Soulful Moods, his debut recording project, is another question, as it is certainly an uncharacteristic collection. It starts off with a whole run of standard numbers from the great era of American songwriting before tossing in a couple of trivial numbers from the developing Motown stable, including a Berry Gordy number that compares most unfavorably with the Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart numbers that surround it. Fans of saloon singing may be curious to know how well Gaye fares in this difficult genre, and for the most part these are fine performances considering the versatile range of his voice and the depth of feeling he brought to most of his performances. No, this is not Gaye with a fully developed style, and it is hardly the innovative legend of Let's Get It On or What's Going On but there is nothing he could have been embarrassed about here. The studio musicians come up with nice arrangements of the material, sometimes even with hints of the punch they would bring to his later, chart-topping material.

    High Fidelity

Original soundtrack to the film High Fidelity (15th Anniversary).

Gen X rock buffs can revel in nostalgia with the High Fidelity soundtrack. The film centers on the romantic escapades of record-store owner and ex-club DJ Rob Gordon (John Cusack) and his full-time obsession with music. Since High Fidelity has as much to do with vinyl addiction as it does with the difficulties of love, great care has been taken with its selection of tracks, a solidly eccentric collection of heartache-heavy pop gems ranging from obscure '60s bands and groundbreaking artists like the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan, to Stevie Wonder and Stereolab. As in the film, there's a method to the compilers' elitist rock-geek madness. Even co-star Jack Black's schlocky blue-eyed cover of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On doesn't seem out of place.

The inspired screeches of acid-fried '60s singer-songwriter Roky Erickson's You're Gonna Miss Me set the pace for the musing, hangdog tone of the album. Besides the joyous licks of the Kinks' Everybody's Gonna Be Happy and Royal Trux's hybrid of hip-hip, techno, and aggressive rock on Inside Game, the bulk of the set is composed of moody folk-rock tunes like Dylan's exquisite Most of the Time and the Velvets' Oh! Sweet Nuthin. Other noteworthy tracks include Love's Always See Your Face, the Beta Band's Dry the Rain, Elvis Costello's wistful Shipbuilding, the stinging irony of Smog's Cold Blooded Old Times, and Stevie Wonder's soulful optimism on I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever). It's a fine, complementary batch of tunes that not only enhances the film's mood but is integral to its theme, and, as High Fidelity's Rob Gordon would agree, it'll go down as one of the top five soundtracks [originally] released in 2000. - Derrick Mathis (AllMusic)

Featuring ''Sexual Healing'', ''What's Going' On'' And ''Ain't No Mountain High Enough''

Motown released the first Marvin Gaye record in 1961 ''(I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over'', a single intended for (radio) promotion from the singer's debut album. This was followed up by the officially released ''Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide'' a week later. Gaye scored his first real hit with ''Stubborn Kind of Fellow'' in 1962, which he had co-written himself, joking about his alleged stubbornness. The foundations were now laid for an enormous series of chart successes: ''Pride And Joy'', ''Can I Get A Witness'', ''How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)'' and ''Ain't That Peculiar'' are all Motown classics from 1963-1965 which are still being regularly played today after all these years.

The duets he recorded with Kim Weston (''It Takes Two'') and especially Tammi Terrell were certainly at least as good.

He scored his biggest ever hit with ''I Heard It Through The Grapevine'' in 1968. The ''What's Going On'' from the same named album became a number 1 hit in the USA and the album was received as a masterpiece everywhere and is now regarded as one of the most important records in pop history. In 1973, the artistically and commercially very successful, Let's Get It On album was mainly a musical ode to Marvin's love for his new muse Janis Hunter. The success enjoyed by ''Sexual Healing'' and the album which was released at the end of 1982, traveled with him. Suddenly Gaye, who had started to increasingly be forgotten about, was a celebrated star again and this was certainly a position the singer reveled in.

The pop world lost one of the most important soul singers ever to grace the world on 1st April 1984. He has left behind a series of fantastic hits plus a big handful of tracks which deserve the title of masterpiece, all COLLECTED on this album.
