Rooms Of The House (Awaiting Repress)

Michigan based quintet La Dispute have announced that they will release their third full-length, titled Rooms of the House, in 2014 via their
newly established label, Better Living, in partnership with Staple Records. Born with a greater intention than to simply release La Dispute's own records,
the band explains their new label as "an outlet for creative expression, and as a way for both themselves and other artists to work together and give back
to their respective communities. The label will operate in multiple forms of media; incorporating written, musical, and visual content, hoping to encourage
collaboration between a variety of artists who are looking to impact their communities by supporting structures and organizations which are already
    making significant positive changes."

Rooms of the House was recorded and mixed by Will Yip at Studio 4 in Philadelphia, produced by Yip and La Dispute, and mastered at The Lodge by
Emily Lazar. To write for the new release, La Dispute retreated to an isolated cabin in Michigan's upper peninsula with the hope that working together in a
different environment would take them out of their comfort zone and enable them to create their strongest record yet. "The area where we were was pretty
remote so we could focus on playing and not much else," bassist Adam Vass explains. "It was just the five of us working on writing every single day for a
month and pretty much the entire album came out of those sessions."

The Things We Think We're Missing

According to Balance and Composure, they can be loud, quiet and everything in between. A pretty apt description in a nutshell. Once you get down to an
intricate school of thought, the lyricism of singer Jon Simmons shows things in a different light. Having all met in the Philadelphia suburb of Doylestown, PA through mutual projects during their high school years, Balance and Composure was formed.

A sonic assault melding influences such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Neutral Milk Hotel and Nirvana, their 2011, critically heralded debut album, Separation, adhered to the band's namesake. A cohesive listen of anthemic and melodic guitar blitzes with poignant lyricism, rhythmic thrusts and an abrasive pop knack in its overall deliverance, Separation helped establish Balance and Composure as one of underground rock's most promising newcomers.

Following their debut, Balance and Composure toured continuously over the next several years with the likes of Circa Survive, La Dispute, Touche Amore
and Title Fight. In the Spring of 2013, the band embarked on their first ever U.S. headlining tour with the recently reunited The Jealous Sound as support. After selling out venues in Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston and New York, it was clear their popularity was at an all time high.\

Picking up where Separation left off, Balance and Composure return once again to push the boundaries of their music with driving riffs and intensely
passionate vocals on the band's long-awaited second studio album, The Things We Think We're Missing. It's the type of record that makes listeners pause and reflect, evoking moments of happiness and sadness over the course of thirteen songs.

    10 Songs

    Colored Vinyl

10 Songs, originally released in October of 2011 through Equal Vision Records is now available as a vinyl release with digital download courtesy of Mightier Than Sword Records. Hard-charging, hook-laden post-hardcore somewhere between Fucked Up and a straightforward La Dispute, Ghost Thrower is quick and dirty, forward-thinking, but not flashy. Guitars rumble, charge and flail deliberately while Travis Alexander's over-arching shout spouts calloused desperation. While Alexander can certainly come off as self-loathing, his brutal honesty and candidness are largely alluring traits. Musically, it's backed by simply catchy and complexly orchestrated cuts that help qualify Ghost Thrower's debut LP as a bona fide winner.

Everyone You Know Is Here Right Now

Take one car are a post-hardcore quartet from upstate New York that has built a dedicated following by relentless diy touring and self releasing their music for the past 7 years. The band's previous lp, 2012's It's Going To Be A Nice Day, was self-released on vinyl by the band itself and has sold hundreds of copies through touring alone. Everyone You Know Is Here Right Now pushes the band's masterfully crafted and dynamic sound further into the territories of bands like mewithoutyou, La Dispute, and Unwound. An undeniably great record start to finish.

    What's Left To Let Go

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Goodtime Boys are one of Bridge Nine Records' newest signees. Signing to a hardcore label such as B9 carries with it an expectation that Goodtime Boys immediately buck. The band share more in common with La Dispute and Pianos Become the Teeth than other B9 bands like Foundation or Expire.

What's Left to Let Go starts off with Bloom, which has a chilling relaxed guitar intro. However when the full band come in, it kicks it up a notch with a melodic but upbeat rhythm. Then vocalist Alex Pennie comes in with his powerful vocals and really brings in the full sound of the band. I immediately noticed the accent on the vocalist, but it's a good thing as it makes the band sound different than most bands of this hard-to-name genre that has been gaining a lot of ground in the hardcore community. His lyrics are immediately at the forefront of everything, as well they should be, being powerful and emotional. The rest of the song keeps up this swing of going from relaxed to very powerful and back again like a lot of the songs on this record. However, it doesn't get monotonous or boring as the band have a good enough writing ability to keep the music interesting.

In the middle of the record the song Rest cools things off a bit coming in with a simple drum beat and an almost haunting guitar melody that fit the lyrics and vocal delivery perfectly. And that's the great simplicity of What's Left to Let Go; Goodtime Boys aren't afraid to use a pattern and vocal style that has been established, but do their own thing with it to try and keep it interesting. This album is technically a double EP and not a singular LP as the first five songs were previously released on the Are We Now, Or Have We Ever Been EP. However, if I had not known this I would not have figured it out from listening to the record as the songs flow so fluidly it sounds like one album. This is partially due to the band's cohesive writing and also partially due to those songs and the new songs being mixed by Defeater guitarist and Getaway Recordings engineer Jay Maas.

Live From Austin, TX (Jerry Lee Lewis)

"Rock and Roll's the thing and Jerry Lee's the King " or so said an English fan once upon a time somewhere. Elvis fans might dispute that title, but nobody else in the history of popular music would dare call himself "The Killer." Of all the legends who came out of Sun Records in the 1950s - Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison - no one would have bet the last one standing would be the pill-popping, whiskey-guzzling, gun-waving hellion from Ferriday, LA except The Killer, of course. Jerry Lee Lewis took black rhythm & blues, white gospel, and other funky Mississippi sounds and turned them into rock and roll. But Jerry Lee's life also is, and has always been, his piano; he has kicked and banged and set on fire (literally) many of them over the course of six-plus decades. He almost never made it to Austin City Limits. He canceled one appearance and, only weeks before this recording on October 17, 1983, his wife died in a freak swimming pool accident at their home. But he did make it, and what we have here is one of the most amazing performances ever to go down on the ACL stage. Throughout the day he was a perfect gentleman, showing up on time and acting very graciously to one and all, but once he hit the stage, all hell broke loose. The songs speak for themselves; they're ALL here. For many years later, Jerry Lee would carry a tape of this show to play for friends (and himself, many times). When I tried to book him again for a return performance, the response was, "Jerry Lee doesn't think he could possibly do a better show."
