RedReleased in 1974 after King Crimson had "ceased to exist", Red remains a remarkably powerful document of a group quitting at the top of its game. The grinding crunch of Red appears to anticipate much of the heavy metal scene whilst the epic Starless brings together several strands of the group's musical history.
Including powerful contributions from Ian McDonald, Mel Collins, David Cross, Mark Charig and Robin Miller, Red form what is arguably the definitive statement of the '70s period Crimson. Bill Bruford recently described the album in just five words: Prescient, short and bass heavy."1. Red

Larks' Tongue In AspicKing Crimson reborn yet again -- the newly configured band makes its debut with a violin (courtesy of David Cross) sharing center stage with Robert Fripp's guitars and his Mellotron, which is pushed into the background. The music is the most experimental of Fripp's career up to this time -- though some of it actually dated (in embryonic form) back to the tail end of the Boz Burrell-Ian Wallace-Mel Collins lineup. And John Wetton was the group's strongest singer/bassist since Greg Lake's departure three years earlier. What's more, this lineup quickly established itself as a powerful performing unit working in a more purely experimental, less jazz-oriented vein than its immediate predecessor. Outer Limits music was how one reviewer referred to it, mixing Cross' demonic fiddling with shrieking electronics, Bill Bruford's astounding dexterity at the drum kit, Jamie Muir's melodic and usually understated percussion, Wetton's thundering (yet melodic) bass, and Fripp's guitar, which generated sounds ranging from traditional classical and soft pop-jazz licks to hair-curling electric flourishes.

LizardDGM & Panegyric are proud to present the third in a series of King Crimson high quality vinyl reissues with the September release of "Lizard". The album's return to the 12" vinyl format is newly cut from masters approved by Robert Fripp. Manufactured on 200 gram super-heavyweight vinyl & housed in a reprint of the original beautiful gatefold sleeve, this edition also contains bonus MP3 codes giving access to a download of a transfer of an original 1970 pressing.
"Lizard" - King Crimson's third studio album & second recording of 1970, was, like its predecessor "In the Wake of Poseidon", the product of a studio band. It was also the first Crimson album for which Robert Fripp provided all of the music. Remarkably self-contained & sounding somewhat atypical for a King Crimson album - even by the standards of a band that rarely sounded similar from album to album, "Lizard" is an often overlooked & under-appreciated gem from their early years. Certainly at the time of release, anyone expecting an extension of the soundscapes introduced & explored on the band's earlier two albums was in for a surprise.
"Lizard" featured a lighter, more delicate sound than the earlier albums - an approach perhaps necessitated by an extended instrumental lineup. The expanded range of instruments allowed for intricately interwoven instrumental passages - with Fripp's guitar & Tippett's piano pleasingly to the fore - and this combination, along with the prominence afforded to Mel Collins & the guest players on the album's main title suite, led some to believe that Fripp was guiding Crimson towards the world of jazz & away from rock altogether. But such claims were misguided. Crimson was, as ever, seeking to expand the vocabulary of rock music & "Lizard" was, in some ways, the band's most ambitious album to date.
As this lineup never toured, very little of the material was performed live & "Lizard" remained a product of the studio environment & the musicians who performed on it. "Lizard" remains a fascinating, intriguing album - an album only a band called King Crimson could make - even if it was a very different King Crimson to that which had gone before or would come after. The album's reputation has undergone a serious re-evaluation in recent years, due in no small part to the overwhelmingly positive nature of the reception given to Steven Wilson & Robert Fripp's 2009 CD/DVD-A edition. As a result the album has never been as popular in its 42 years' history.1. Cirkus (Including: Entry Of The Chameleons)

USAAs Robert Fripp had done with King Crimson's first live LP, Earthbound (1972), USA is a single-disc concert package documenting the quartet during its 1974 swing through North America. As with its predecessor, USA was also issued as a sonic cenotaph of the concurrently defunct Krim. So insistent that the band would not be resurrected, Fripp concluded the LP's liner notes at the time with another three-letter epitaph: R.I.P. The 1973/1974 King Crimson included the collective efforts of Fripp (guitar/mellotron), David Cross (violin), John Wetton (bass/vocals), and Bill Bruford (drums/percussion). USA also includes notable violin overdubs by Eddie Jobson on the tracks Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Pt. 2 and 21st Century Schizoid Man, as well as electric piano addendums to Lament. The opening drone re-creates the typical performance prelude, lifted directly from the Fripp and Brian Eno sonic sculpture No Pussyfooting (1973). The brusque juxtaposition of the ethereal opening to the aggressive Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Pt. 2 jolts the audience into the rips and snorts found during this tautly rendered instrumental. The readings of Lament and Exiles demonstrate this band's overwhelming sonic sensibilities. They are able to contrast and incorporate thick, viscous melodies and rhythms with alternately underlying sensitive, as well as ultimately beautiful, musical responses.1. Walk on.. No Pussyfooting

When this album was originally released in 1973 (the same year as the famed Live set), Genesis had become one of the fastest-rising groups on the pop scene. The band's blend of classical instincts, theatrical presentation, as well as whimsically complex and daring arrangements established them as leaders of the British progressive rock movement, along with fellow giants Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Jethro Tull. After returning to the studio, these talented musicians continued to labor and experiment. The result of their effort is Selling England by the Pound, considered by some to equal their masterpiece, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. It was truly a group effort and is still widely-acknowledged as one of the great albums from the 1970s! And in what was perhaps a foreshadowing of things to come, drummer Phil Collins made his vocal debut here on the song, More Fool Me.1. Dancing With The Moonlit Night

Tales From Topographic OceansTales from Topographic Oceans is the sixth studio album from the English rock band Yes, originally released as a double album on 7 December 1973 by Atlantic Records.
Yes is among the longest lasting and most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, proving to be one of the lasting success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock band. Where rivals such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer withered away commercially after the mid-'70s, and Genesis and King Crimson altered their sounds so radically as to become unrecognizable to their original fans, Yes retained the same sound, and performed much of the same repertoire that they were doing in 1971, and for their trouble, found themselves being taken seriously a quarter of a century later. Their audience remained huge because they had always attracted younger listeners drawn to their mix of daunting virtuosity, cosmic (often mystical) lyrics, complex musical textures, and powerful yet delicate lead vocals.1. Black Light Syndrome (Awaiting Repress)This power trio has famous roots, and they've brought it all together masterfully. First cut The Sun Road starts off like a tune off of David Gilmour's first solo album and then vanishes into a driving, power-chorded surge of soulful rock. Next, Dark Corners is a massive rocker that pulls you under its powerful whirlpool of guitar/bass/drum frenzy. Stevens tortures the guitar into absolute submission without any predictable riffs. Levin looms everywhere, and Bozzio flows in a polyrhythmic jungle. Fine interactive tension and execution everywhere. This goes way beyond King Crimson's Red days.
Duende opens with flamenco guitar firebursts, and slowly builds into a decent Spanish-flavored piece. Not my favorite, but well done. The title cut, Black Light Syndrome, is obviously a play on Bozzio Levin Stevens. It is a slower-paced dirge and filled to the brim with a variety of well-executed riffs, basslines, and drum tech.
Falling in Circles is an early Floydscape dotted with Ronnie Montrose leads, a ballad of driving determination and resolve. Floods of Satriani, Wishbone Ash, Alvin Lee, Fripp, Buck Dharma, and even that Duane Allman tone.
Book of Hours took me right back to Wheels of Fire's Pressed Rat and Warthog, rainy-day dreamy afternoons with a fresh pot of designer coffee. Levin, Bozzio, and Stevens play off of one another precisely as one mind.
On the last cut, Chaos/Control, you hear that E7 breakdown from Hendrix's Midnight on War Heroes, and then a jazzy boogie in classic Frank Marino style is laid down. Stevens is a guitarist with a wide range of dynamics.

Brain Salad SurgeryBrain Salad Surgery is the fourth studio album by progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, originally released in 1973 and the first under their Manticore Records imprint. It fuses rock and classical themes. Greg Lake wrote the lyrics for the album with the assistance (on two tracks, Karn Evil 9: 3rd Impression and Benny the Bouncer) of former King Crimson bandmate (and, beginning with this album, frequent ELP collaborator) Peter Sinfield. UNIM-EVI-3604xThank You Scientist
Maps Of Non-Existent PlacesClaudio Sanchez has officially launched his record label Evil Ink Records and his first signing is New Jersey's young experimental progressive rock septet
Thank You Scientist. The newly formed label, distributed by INgrooves, will be releasing a fully remixed and remastered version of the band's 2012 debut
full-length record, Maps of Non-Existent Places, in time for their run with Coheed and Cambria's "Neverender:IKSSE3 Tour."
Claudio Sanchez knows a little bit about progressive music. His career has spanned 12 years and 7 albums, likely encompassing the longest concept
album arc in the history of rock and roll. Now, in effort to further support and promote his beloved complex genre, he has launched a label dedicated to
sharing a wealth of future talent with the first signing being the extremely talented seven-piece band Thank You Scientist.
For the uninitiated, Thank You Scientist was forged from the music program at Montclair State University in New Jersey when guitarist Tom Monda met
saxophonist Ellis Jasenovic and trumpeter Andrew Digrius. The three bonded over their love for Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Beatles and
Harry Nilsson. Those influences would become the seeds for what Thank You Scientist would evolve into today.
With the addition of vocalist Salvatore Marrano, bassist Greg Colacino, drummer Odin Alvarez and violinist Ben Karas, Thank You Scientist's lineup of
virtuoso musicians was complete. The band would go on to self-release an EP, The Perils of Time Travel, in 2011 followed by their debut full-length, Maps
of Non-Existent Places, in 2012, which caught the ear of Sanchez, a fellow purveyor of progressive stylings, and led to his signing of the band.
To pinpoint Thank You Scientist's sound would be inconceivable. On Maps of Non-Existent Places they hold a virtual master class on musicianship,
fusing elements of progressive rock with jazz fusion, classical, metal, psychedelic and pop for a head spinning, mind-blowing listening experience. The
seven-piece band, who collectively play some 20 instruments, boasts a hyper-composed sound which is indebted to their experience and formal training
in both classical and jazz idioms.

ForestelevisionLesbian are a peculiar band, and not just in name alone. This Seattle-based four piece is one of the more eclectic acts to grace progressive metal, touting influences based in doom metal, 70s prog rock, black metal, and grunge. Combining all these seemingly disparate elements together may seem like an absurd task, but when psychedelics are involved, anything is possible. The group's latest effort explores these sounds and more in the course of a single forty minute track, Forestelevision.
Forestelevision is as suitable a title as any considering the structure and content that lies within. Lesbian shuffle through genres and moods as if flipping through channels while doped out on cough syrup. ADD applied to metal has allowed for the creation of some very off-the-wall music, but few approach this attention deficit as slowly evolving as Lesbian. At a whopping 44 minutes, Forestelevision crawls and plods along throughout a myriad of vignettes and experimentation in a way that is as challenging as it is awe-inspiring. Typically, spoiler alerts don't apply to music. However, given the nature of Forestelevision, the surprises that may lie around the corner upon first listen can make for an exhilarating experience. Going in blind yields the best results, but for those in need of more convincing may read on.
The album first opens to trudging doom metal riffs with vocals bringing to mind the likes of a young Ihsahn before giving way to riffing not out of place on a King Crimson record. These motifs continue to grow and change form through solos and synth leads in epic fashion. It isn't until halfway through Forestelevision when the band picks up considerable speed and begins to sound like something in the realm of post-blackened thrash before bottoming out again in a breakdown not unheard of from death metal greats Suffocation.
And this is just the tamer side of the group. Things get downright bizarre in the album's second climactic half. Following a barrage of math rock, sludge, and oddball soundtrack work that would expect to hear in an episode of Scooby-Doo, the band pulls off a shockingly convincing King Diamond impression almost out of nowhere, falsetto screams and power metal galloping riffs included. The band closes the show in an explosive crescendo of tremolo picked power chords and blasts of cymbals. Even with the considerable length, the fact that the band were able to make such a strange transformation from bleak doom to triumphant classic metal feel so natural is deserving of praise.
As excessive or self-indulgent as Forestelevision may seem, the ideas explored within are often captivating and epic as much as they are crushing and brutal. This is a culmination of all the insanity found throughout rock and metal condensed into a single epic track, and on more than one occasion can elicit a mouthing of "what the fuck am I listening to?" Those with enough patience to sit through Forestelevision will be left confused and disoriented, but compelled enough to go back for a second helping.1. Forestelevision$24.99Vinyl LP - Sealed Buy Now
