A Beacon From MarsWielding a battery of exotic instruments that once adorned a thrift-shop front window (bazouki, oud, vina, saz, doumbeg), the Kaleidoscope was every bit as multi-hued and subject-to-change as the telescope full of bright bits of colored glass the band was named after. If there had been a prize for the most eclectic psychedelic outfit, L.A.s Kaleidoscope would have had it stashed on a shelfbetween the hookah pipes and the bowling trophiesin the bands rehearsal space. Formed by multi-instrumentalists David Lindley and Chris Darrow, with a membership that also included multi-instrumentalist Solomon Feldthouse and multi-instrumentalists Max Buda, Chester Crill and Fenrus Epp (all the same person!) along with drummer John Vidican, this wildly experimental outfit pioneered what would become the world-music genre by darting deftly between rock, folk, blues, Cajun, country, Middle Eastern, good-time ballads and Eastern European styles, with plenty of full-blown psychedelia on the side. Its an exotically diverse approach, explored to great effect on 1968s A Beacon from Mars, Kaleidoscopes second LP (the working title for the album was Bacon from Mars). Just float your head through the buoyant, sprawling, mystical title track; the driving, raga-esque Taxim; or the graceful opener, I Found Out, which unfolds like the tender petals of a young rose. Beacon from Mars is an album no fan of 60s West Coast psych can afford to miss!1. I Found Out

Side TripsLike a mind-boggling combination of Summer of Love acid-rock, good time saloon music and a Middle Eastern jam session, Side Trips, the debut album by Kaleidoscope, stood out, even in the eye of the psychedelic hurricane, as something altogether different! Staffed by a hall of fame roster of multi-instrumentalists -David Lindley, Chris Darrow, Solomon Feldthouse, Chester Crill (aka: Fenrus Epp) and John Vidican-this San Gabriel Valley, Calif.-based combo cut their dazzling 1967 album with a startling arsenal of instruments that included banjo, fiddle, doumbeg, mandolin, viola, saz, bouzoukee, dobro, vina, authoharp, oud and clarinet. When they entertained the wide-eyed customers of San Francisco's Fillmore and Avalon Ballrooms and Los Angeles' Ash Grove, they frequently employed flamenco and belly dancers onstage. Just like the see-through tube with bits of colored glass and mirrors that gave the band their name, the Kaleidoscope was never the same, no matter which way you turned it!1. Egyptian Gardens

Kaleidoscope DreamGrammy-nominated singer/songwriter Miguel announces the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album Kaleidoscope Dream on By Storm/RCA Records. Coming off of two #1 R&B singles and a near gold debut on his breakthrough album All I Want Is You, Miguel is poised for continued success with his newest offering Kaleidoscope Dream. The debut single, Adorn, initially received rave reviews as the highlight of his viral release Art Dealer Chic. Combined with the tremendous success of his Wale collaboration Lotus Flower Bomb, Miguel has built incredible momentum. While Miguel's progressive critically acclaimed 2010 album All I Want Is You, which spawned the chart-topping hit singles Quickie, Sure Thing and the album title track, earned him unanimous praise, Kaleidoscope Dream takes him down a new path of musical exploration with groundbreaking, cutting ege precision.1. Kaleidoscope of Rainbow (Pure Pleasure)This album became infamous for it's supremely original music, but also for it's impeccable engineering by Martin Levan. On the original single LP the sound quality had to be compromised to enable the inclusion of 27 minutes of music per side. Much of the bass and stereo effect was removed.
Now as a double LP and mastering from the original master analogue tapes all of the 'missing' bass and stereo effect is here for all to savour and enjoy.
At the time of it's original release in September 1976 it received critical acclaim across the full spectrum of the days music aficionados.
Listening to it today there is no reason to doubt it's continuing worth as an outstanding work of art and a lasting testament to Neil Ardley who sadly passed away.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1.Prologue/Rainbow One (soloist Ian Carr and Brian Smith) 10.26

She's So Unusual: A 30th Anniversary CelebrationRanked 494/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
In the fall of 1983, a struggling singer from Ozone
Park, Queens with audacious vintage style and a riot
of candy-colored hair was about to go supernova
in the new MTV-dominated music scene: Cyndi
Lauper. She's So Unusual was just released and it
blazed with a vivid kaleidoscope of styles including
new wave, pop, post-punk, girl-group Motown and
reggae. It was a perfect complement to Lauper's
astonishingly supple voice and the irresistible
vibrancy of the songs immediately endeared them

Would I Find Your Psychic GuidelineFrom the West coast bedroom pop beginnings of last year's A Sea As A Shore, Aaron Deer's (one half of The Impossible Shapes) one time solo project is now anchored with the drumming kaleidoscope of Shelley Harrison on this 12-inch. Now a duo, the Elephant Six foundations have given way to a treasure trove of pounding rhythms and repetitive organ lines not unlike NY's Oneida at their devilish best on Each One Teach One, or 20-odd years earlier when Philip Glass and Suicide brought the minimalist keyboard aesthetic to the rest of the world...but don't be mislead. This is a 12-inch, not some overly heady art-damaged Brooklyn piece of vinyl. It's corn-fed, head-bobbin' music from the Midwest.1.Dowser Hunters

Sunshine ReduxOut of the modern musical abyss comes Jackson Scott, a 22-year-old artist living in Asheville, NC. Finding pure metaphysical euphoria within the depths of cassette recorders and guitar pedals, he enjoys the simple things in life such as playing music with friends and falling into existential voids. After touring extensively in 2013 for his debut album Melbourne, released on Fat Possum Records, Jackson returned home to record an album that he could listen to in absolutely any negative or positive state of mind. His second album Sunshine Redux is a translation of this paradoxical psyche, a kaleidoscope of sounds ranging from 60's flower power to 90's hip-hop production techniques. Veering from nihilistic punk rock explosions to gentle sonic nightmares, it is his most cohesive musical undertaking yet.1. Woodworkk

Real EstateREAL ESTATE waft in on vibes of hazy summers past. The New Jersey quartet cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots its no surprise that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound, lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through parched neighborhood streets. MARTIN COURTNEYs songwriting has a way of wrapping up the immediacy of youth with the ennui of age for the perfect shade of bittersweet bliss, mind you though, much heavier on the sweet than the bitter. Add to this MATTHEW MONDANILEs (DUCKTAILS, PREDATOR VISION) shimmering guitar strains full of equal parts sea foam and beer foam, pepper in the boardwalk clatter of ETIENNE PIERRE DUGUAYs drums, ALEX BLEEKERs staccato low end and the perfect afternoon is just a lawn chair and boom box away.Andy French (Raven Sings the Blues) Received a Best New Music, 8.5 rating from Pitchfork.Side A

In LightIncludes MP3 Download Card
In Light is the debut album from the Lafayette, Louisiana-based five-piece Givers. Engineer Ben Allen (Cee-Lo, Animal Collective, M.I.A., Matt & Kim) helped to provide sounds here that expand upon the bands greatest assets, their innate knack for the catchiest of melodies, and the ever-evolving rhythms and sense of adventure that gave them their experimental edge.
Opener and first single Up Up Up is nothing short of anthemic, a rousing calling card for the bands elated sound. Ripe is a kaleidoscope of sultry Afro-pop, while Meantime showcases the bands instrumental and thematic investment in fluidity, capping off with a no-holds-barred group sing-along. Words fuses fist-pumping, heavy percussion with staccato vocal chants, and In My Eyes is lifted into the night sky by fluttering harmonies, steel drum chimes, swirling guitar solos and cricket hums. Atlantic laces Lamsons textured drawl with Caribbean accents, ukulele plucks and keyboard sparkles.

Estoile NaiantRecently breaking a two year new recording hiatus, out of nowhere, visionary underground producer patten dropped the surprise EP EOLIAN INSTATE via his newly announced home Warp Records. With no long lead build-up and the firm decision to limit the release to an ultra bespoke run of 500 picture discs, it was clear that patten intends to continue along his own uncompromising route, unrestrained by the formulas and common practices of the environment he finds himself operating in. A relief for existing fans and a refreshingly singular approach to discover for those finding his exquisitely atypical world for the first time. A world continuously explored in patten's internationally-focused Kaleidoscope imprint. In just a handful of weeks, EOLIAN INSTATE has found support from major international outlets such as The Wire Magazine,BBC Radio 1, WFMU as well as causing a stir on the digital underground amongst the hyper-aware tastemakers at FACT, Dazed, Pitchfork, The Fader, Dummy, XLR8R and countless others. Days, Nights & The Late Morning Lights180 Gram Vinyl Pressed At RTI
The See See are a contemporary psychedelic band with one foot in 1967 and the other in 2014-they not only make psychedelic music for today, they make it for forever. The See See originated out of the ashes of some of the modern pop world's hippest guitar psych acts, most notably Richard Olson's 'The Eighteenth Day of May'. Forged in the Über-competitive London music scene, The See See have an ever-increasing fan base amongst Paisley Europeans fond of Television's guitars, Moby Grape's harmonies, the White Stripes' bite and Syd Barrett style. Their music is an exploding kaleidoscope of colors and sounds!
This is the band's first full-length US release, especially designed for the American market. Through a combination of their cutting-edge use of social media and their old-fashioned work ethic, which has seen The See See tour, tour and tour again, they have saturated the continental European indie market and given London its hippest, most innovative guitar scene in years!
This Sundazed anthology of music from these heirs to the Paisley Underground is classic psychedelia. Listen as The See See leave cult status behind and head for the far reaches of the galaxy and the top rung of the charts. AtomicAtomic, the new album by Scottish experimental rock
legends Mogwai, is composed of reworked versions of
the music recorded for the soundtrack to director Mark
Cousins' acclaimed documentary Atomic: Living In
Dread and Promise, which first aired on BBC Four last
Constructed entirely of archive film, Atomic is an
impressionistic kaleidoscope of the horrors of our nuclear
times - protest marches, Cold War sabre-rattling,
Chernobyl and Fukishima - but also the sublime beauty
of the atomic world, and how x-rays and MRI scans have
improved human lives. Mogwai's soundtrack
encapsulates the nightmare of the nuclear age, but its
dreamlike qualities too. It is the latest in the band's series
of impressive soundtracks and scores, following
acclaimed albums Les Revenants (The Returned) and
Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait.
Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite says: The Atomic
soundtrack is one of the most intense and fulfilling
projects we've taken on as a band. Ever since we went to
Hiroshima to play and visited the peace park this has
been a subject very close to us. The end results, both the
film score and the record are pieces I'm extremely proud

Cursing The Sea (Awaiting Repress)Ships takes their fuzzy garage pop and colors it several shades darker, resulting in an ominous amphetamine-fueled dirge full of screeching guitars, metronomic basslines, and cooly detached vocals. The Girls' pare down their sound to its steely core on Ships, using angular guitar work to sharpen their sunniest melodies to a bleeding point, making this the most thrilling music they've released in their short existence." (Pitchfork)
Cursing The Sea, the debut album from Ireland's September Girls, is a dark kaleidoscope of echoey drums, buzzsaw bass, angular guitars and reverb-drenched vocals that blends garage rock and post-punk to extraordinary effect. Paula (Bass/Vocals), Caoimhe (Guitar/Vocals), Lauren (Keys/Vocals), Jessie (Guitar/Vocals) and Sarah (Drums) draw inspiration from the likes of Phil Spector, The Velvets, The Cure, MBV and The Jesus And Mary Chain and play reverb-soaked noise-pop of the finest order. Formed in Dublin in 2011, the band quickly began booking gigs in Ireland and the UK, before releasing a handful of well-received limited edition singles on various cassette and 7" labels around the world, most recently on the Haus of PINS cassette label run by their kindred spirits PINS, with whom the band have also toured. This release, for the song "Ships", gave the band their biggest press to date, with a glowing review on Pitchfork. With four different songwriters and singers, each song begins with a secret life of its own, only to be unified by the distortion-drenched harmonies and hazy pop stylings of the band.
Whirling around in a tornado of fuzz, dazzling harmonies, disarming lyrics and dizzying excitement, Cursing the Sea is awash with enough attitude and great songs to see September Girls safely to shore. lullaby and... The Ceaseless RoarRobert Plant's new album, lullaby and The Ceaseless Roar, will be released on Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Plant, the album is his label debut and features 11 new recordings, nine of which are original songs written by Plant with his band, The Sensational Space Shifters-Justin Adams: bendirs, djembe, guitars, tehardant, background vocals; John Baggott: keyboards, loops, moog bass, piano, tabal, background vocals; Juldeh Camara: kologo, ritti, Fulani vocals; Billy Fuller: bass, drum programming, omnichord, upright bass; Dave Smith: drum set; and Liam "Skin" Tyson: banjo, guitar, background vocals.
lullaby and The Ceaseless Roar is Plant's first record since 2010's Band of Joy, which followed 2007's six-time Grammy Award-winning collaboration with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand. Justin Adams and John Baggott of The Sensational Space Shifters appeared on Plant's 2002 release Dreamland, while all but Camara and Smith appeared on 2005's Mighty Rearranger. The new-album line-up recently toured the world before recording lullaby and The Ceaseless Roar at Helium Studios in Wiltshire and Real World Studios in Bath, UK. The track "Rainbow" was recorded in Contino Rooms in London. Tchad Blake mixed all but three tracks on the album.
"It's really a celebratory record, powerful, gritty, African, Trance meets Zep," Plant says. "The whole impetus of my life as a singer has to be driven by a good brotherhood. I am very lucky to work with The Sensational Space Shifters. They come from exciting areas of contemporary music I have been around awhile and I ask myself, do I have anything to say? Is there a song still inside me? In my heart? I see life and what's happening to me. Along the trail there are expectations, disappointments, happiness, questions and strong relationships," Plant explains, "... and now I'm able to express my feelings through melody, power and trance; together in a kaleidoscope of sound, colour, and friendship."1. DreamcarIn the summer of 2014, No Doubt s Tony Kanal [bass], Tom Dumont [guitar], and Adrian Young [drums] and singer Davey Havok [AFI, Blakq Audio] began writing and demoing music together. Without telling a soul outside of their significant others, the four musicians clandestinely moved into a cramped downtown Los Angeles rehearsal spot and revved up what would become DREAMCAR. The result of this collaboration is their self-titled debut album, DREAMCAR, produced by Tim Pagnotta [Neon Trees], with whom the band found a kindred spirit.
The band's name actually reflects their ambitions. DREAMCAR speaks to a nostalgia, but as much as it speaks to the past, it also speaks to the present and the future, singer Davey Havok says. It mirrors hopes, aspirations, and attaining the unattainable. I would hope the songs do the same thing. Rife with shimmering guitar tones, percussive slap bass, bombastic drums, and a neon-lit dancefloor dreaminess, DREAMCAR gleefully nods to the decade of Boy George and Back to the Future through a kaleidoscope of wisdom earned from three decades creating and connecting with fans worldwide.
The first single Kill For Candy instantly enchants with its upbeat energy and sweet, saccharine chant punctuated by a twisting and turning guitar and driving rhythms. The album swings between the Frankie Goes To Hollywood-style risquÉ spoken narrative of On The Charts to the delicate longing of the synth-washed Slip On The Moon where Havok pleads, Just look for me, I will look for you. Born To Lie builds from a breathy verse into an expansive refrain, while the opener After I Confess sees his hypnotic and haunting vocal soar over airy and open soundscapes. Ultimately, it's that combination of delectable and dangerous which will leave listeners everywhere satisfied. This is a big moment for us, Kanal leaves off. It's a new beginning. When Macklemore declares his music is David Bowie meets Kanye sh*t, it's a bit of an oversell on the Bowie side, but then again, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring are also honored as influences during Ten Thousand Hours, the biographical highlight that opens the Seattle rapper's vibrant sophomore release.
These arty name-drops threaten to paint the album as more obscure than it is, but even as glitch electronica and Mad Rad member Buffalo Madonna strange up the breakup number Thin Line, The Heist comes off as instant, alive, and oh so welcoming. Chalk it up to Macklemore's playful and open lyrics (When I was in the third grade/I thought I was gay/Because I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight) or the album's not so secret weapon, Ryan Lewis, the producer who earns his co-billing with a George Martin or Dave Fridmann-sized sense of purpose and an Internet kid's sense of utilizing anything and/or everything. For the music industry takeover Jimmy Iovine with Ab-Soul as guest, Lewis' production is a mix of G-Unit gangster music and a Houston hip-hop trunk rumbler, while the pro-gay marriage highlight Same Love with Mary Lambert is supported by full-bodied piano and the sound of a bittersweet marching band, all of it familiar yet twisted through a laptop with hypnotic loops and catchy hooks coming out. Gold (feeling like 500,000 sold) is joyous and bright mini-electro that feeds the positive side of the soul, while Can't Hold Us comes with an irresistible bounce, both tracks being light, lovely, and in contrast to the numbers that deal with Macklemore's addiction issues and other obstacles.
These two talented young bucks can't be contained, and hearing them offer one memorable, meaty number after another makes for an exciting listen, but this is unfiltered freshness released on Macklemore's own label, so the concepts of restraint and focus take a slight hit, leaving the is-he-Eminem, is-he-Childish Gambino, or is-he-Grieves question with no clear winner. Here, he's a mix of all of the above with some distinctive qualities, and with Lewis putting that kaleidoscope style underneath, The Heist winds up a rich combination of fresh and familiar.

I'm here to tell you it's definitely a piece of work to get excited about...the entire album is a standout... - Indie Shuffle
"Equally fuelled by dissonance and shivers as by soaring melodies and handclaps, Rookie wrenches alt.rock from its indie daydream and tosses it into a well-informed blend that make the kids look more like the connoisseur than the novice." - Drum Media
"It's his voice and those lyrics that are going to lunge The Trouble With Templeton into "something special" territory." - Album of the Week, Herald Sun
"The deeper you go into this full-length LP, the richer the colour and the detail." **** - Album of the Week, Courier Mail
Bella Union are thrilled to announce the signing of acclaimed Australian quintet The Trouble With Templeton whose debut album is titled Rookie.
Already a huge success in Australia, The Trouble With Templeton is the creation of singer/songwriter Thomas Calder, a 23-year-old wunderkind who formed the band in 2011. The following year saw TTWT expand to a 5-piece, the new members complimenting Calder's emotive vocals and songwriting with a collaborative, self-assured sound.
Adventurous, eccentric and stunningly melodic, Rookie is an album that leaves a distinct musical impression. With their debut release The Trouble With Templeton have crafted a record full of warmth and heart, whilst displaying a willingness to make music that's not afraid to affect or surprise. "The only prerequisite we had going in was that if we loved the song and we believe in it, then we were going to record it," says Thomas. "The element of surprise is something we really enjoy in music, something we're always shooting for. You don't want to know where a song is going from the first two lines."As a result, the album is a whirling dervish of moods and colours, of tempos and genres, melodies and layers, tackling concepts behind relationships and the way unique human narratives emerge from different viewpoints.
Musically, defining Rookie beyond a happily all-encapsulating idea like 'intelligent melodic alt-pop' isn't worth the hassle. It's an album that demands listening to in order to be understood. "It's held together by something undefinable," reckons Thomas. "For me it's a whole kaleidoscope of sounds and genres, but there's something holding it together, and that's us as a band."1. CranekissTime and changes distance Tamaryn's Cranekiss from her earlier efforts, and for that matter, from everyone else's. Time, by way of the long period spent crafting this material, both on her own and with Weekend's Shaun Durkan, who with producer Jorge Elbrecht (Violens, Lansing-Dreiden), make up the creative team behind Cranekiss. Changes, by relocating across the country from San Francisco to New York City, by expanding the approach taken on her two previous albums (2010's The Waves and 2012's Tender New Signs), by making music that pulls you closer to it despite the enormity of the sounds within.
Tamaryn's first two full-lengths stood out in a crowd of shoegaze/ethereal revivalists as much for what they were (careful, gorgeous, thrilling tapestries of guitar-based textures) as what they weren't (simplistic, trendy, disposable signposts made to be broken). With Cranekiss, Tamaryn emerges from her past in a way that's inviting, warm-blooded, and shockingly direct. She's made a big record, loaded with samples, synth triggers and processing that was missing from her previous efforts, the result of long nights grinding it out at the Brooklyn studio Gary's Electric, where the record was born. The Waves and Tender New Signs focused on the sounds Tamaryn and her group could coax out of guitars, but with Cranekiss her sonic palette has exploded with maniacal abandon, pressed into service of a post-adolescent love letter to all the music that she and her collaborators hold dear, drawing influences from the feelings that fell out of her. Anyone familiar enough with those times should be able to draw their own comparisons, recognizing the modes of musical respect and adoration flashing past as the record spins. From there, though, Tamaryn has modeled these elements into simulacra, where despite the nods and glances to the past, play as a totally new sound.
Lyrically, this is Tamaryn's most personal collection of songs to date, and Elbrecht has placed her voice front and center across the entire record, elevating her presence like never before. Cranekiss explores dark rock, dance pop, and glistening melancholy with a uniformly commanding presence across it all, in stormy, unsettled brushstrokes that apply pressure behind Tamaryn's words.
Cranekiss represents a long journey, and a new phase in Tamaryn's music unfolding before you, a blood-red kaleidoscope of desire and late night abandon, a bold step forward.1. Cranekiss

Live At Third Man RecordsRecorded on July 18th, 2014 as the opening set for Peter Walker's psychedelic guitar experience, William Tyler's Live at Third Man Records LP was buried for far too long in our backlog of masters. To release it too soon would have been to unleash the secrets of the transcendent and acclaimed new record Modern Country (Merge, 2016) before they had a chance to manifest. Too wait any longer would have been torture for us. Originally planned to be a live single, the full, 5-song performance was too truthy, too seamless, and too perfectly whole to be whittled down to two tracks. So, surprise! A live LP is born.
For those unfamiliar with William Tyler, his story is Nashville legend... born into a songwriting family, Tyler was tapped by Kurt Wagner to become a member of Lambchop at age 19 (two decades younger than the other members), and quickly became the ''architect of the band's sound.'' From there, Tyler went on to back up the Silver Jews, Bonnie ''Prince'' Billy, Charlie Louvin, and others... all the while writing songs for his configuration of choice: fingerpicking solo guitar. The acoustic simplicity of his first two albums remains in his most recent effort (which he describes as ''a love letter to what we're losing in America. To what we've already lost''), and on this live LP, but Tyler is bringing more depth and more experimentation to his compositions of late. ''Gone Clear'' (known as ''Going Clear'' at the time of our recording) which appears on both records, is a melting pot of ideas: a drone reminiscent of Hindustani classical music, a central melody that sounds distinctly Appalachian, a devolution into a kaleidoscope of colors and ideas that it's hard to believe is being produced by a single musician. This layering of textures is Tyler's trademark, and even more awe-inspiring live.
We like to think that with the purposeful lack of smart phones, bars to saddle up to, and, of course, corners, concert-goers in the Blue Room tend to be more in-the-moment than in most performance venues. But it's a rare artist who can take the already focused atmosphere in the room and quiet every last busy mind - Tyler did just that. This immortalization of the performance in all its transmundane glory will entrance you from first note.1. We Can't Go Home Again

Poets Were My HeroesMorning Glory is made up of the stuff that the gritty, punk-crust motherland of New York's infamous Lower East Side has been known to spawn. This group of punkers and squatters had very humble beginnings indeed. Already in various other New York punk bands, Morning Glory first became the spark of an idea when Ezra Kire (Leftöver Crack, Choking Victim, INDK) took time off from touring and started to write some tunes in his NYC apartment.
In 2001, with nothing but a drum machine and an 8-track reel-to-reel, Ezra wrote and recorded the songs that would become Morning Glory's first LP, This Is No Time ta Sleep. Though it was self-recorded, home-released and had no touring support, it still managed to create a small but ubiquitous underground buzz. With a virtuosic range of musical elements such as ska, punk, metal, and even some rhyming, its catchy, anthemic sing-alongs showcased Ezra's flourishing writing talents. And while his lyrics stayed true to the caustic political edge of his other bands, the overall message remained more optimistic and leaned towards the humanistic, personal side of life.
In 2002, Ezra finally assembled a live band, handpicking musicians from the local NYC punk scene, including members of Nausea, World/Inferno Friendship Society and Stockyard Stoics. This lineup recorded the EP, The Whole World is Watching, released on Blacknoise Records in 2003. While the years that followed were spent recording and touring with Leftöver Crack, Morning Glory took a back seat.
But after these long years of touring, Ezra finally decided to give Morning Glory the attention it deserved in 2010 and began writing songs for what was to become the epic new album, Poets Were My Heroes. In the summer of 2011, Ezra and the band (with longtime members Early Gates, "Metal" Chris and Lucky Strano alongside new guitarist Adam Schrager) hit the studio with a barrage of new material. Picture the sonic kaleidoscope of punk noise meeting strings, horns, choirs, pianos and organs over a web of distorted guitars and marching, single kick pedal drums.
These are the sounds that make up Poets Were My Heroes, Morning Glory's Fat Wreck Chords debut and first full-length album recorded with a live band. Re-enlisting producer Jesse Cannon (The Menzingers, Saves the Day), a wealth of material was recorded, with only the very strongest songs being chosen to make up the album. It is both grand and elaborate, with each song evoking a different mood and style, challenging the musicianship of even the most dexterous players, while still maintaining its punk-inspired simplicity.
While the band itself has described themselves as "somewhere between Oasis and The Clash," they continue to break rules and write music that is true only to themselves, adhering to no genres, creeds or political factions. The sing-along choruses give the band a broader appeal than the standard politi-kill punk acts, but the key message is more subversive: "Think for yourself, decide for yourself, make up your own mind and love your friends. Only you know what is right for you. Together we are what we can't be alone." It's this unity in diversity that makes the band special and not just another punk outfit.
