Johnny Thunders, founding member and lead guitarist for 1970s proto-punk bands The New York Dolls and The Heartbreakers, was known for a gritty, intense guitar sound. His musical style served as a blueprint of sorts for bands such as the Sex Pistols. After The Heartbreakers split, Thunders recorded his first solo album, So Alone, in 1978. Featuring guest musicians such as Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders), Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), Steve Jones and Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) and Peter Perrett (The Only Ones), So Alone is a true rock classic. Some Hearts: The Last Album 1990

    Includes CD

Some Hearts: The Last Album (1990) features eight studio tracks recorded in 1990 in NYC for what was to be Johnny Thunders' next album. Instead, a few months later Thunders was dead, but new songs like Children Are People Too, Some Hearts and Familiarity Breeds Contempt suggest that the ex-NY Doll may have not been as far gone as most fans believed. On the contrary, the strength of this material suggests that he may have actually been ready for a comeback. The remaining four bonus tracks, including classics like You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory and Hurt Me, are from a rare 1982 acoustic performance. 180g vinyl version also includes bonus CD of the entire album.

    1. Help the Homeless (Studio, NYC, 1990)

    Local Customs: Lone Star Lowlands

The second in Numeros series of peeks into the world of regional studios hones in on Mickey Rouses Lowland operation out of Beaumont, Texas. Long after the Boppers plane crashed and the Winter brothers (Johnny and Edgar) and Janis Joplin split, Texas Golden Triangle was home to a vibrant scene of musicians, songwriters, and entrepreneurs just trying to make it in Houston, let alone the world.

From the ashes of a vibrant garage and stage band scene, the Lowland studio and its clientele were formed. Holed up in a rundown strip mall, groups like Mourning Sun, Insight Out, Sage, Sassy, Mother Lion, Hope, Circus, and Boot Hill tracked out hundreds of demos, most of which were put on the shelf and left to bake in the South East Texas heat. Until now.

Over the last two years, Numero has painstakingly gone through every tape in the studios archives, selecting the best of the best (28 for this 2xLP) for this peerless compilation. The songs themselves run the gamut; southern boogie rock, CSNY clones, British blues thunder, garage-psych hangovers, Morricone-esque supper club instrumentals, yacht rock, and what can only be described as Bobby McPherin fronting the Velvet Underground, are threaded together in the way only a tightly-knit scene can be. Forget bringing these treasures back to life, Numeros giving them the life they never had.

    1. Lowlands Studio Band - Trash One
    2. Insight Out - Live My Life Today
    3. Mother Lion - Simple House
    4. Sassy - She's My Daughter
    5. Bobby Welch - Yellow River

    Such Sweet Thunder (Pure Pleasure)

This music counts among Ellington's most well-realized 'concept projects', all inspired by Shakespeare's work and filled with memorable melodies and ample opportunities for solos by Cat Anderson, Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, and Quentin Jackson. The Ellington-Strayhorn compositions treat their soloists like actors doing scenes and, in effect, playing parts, even quoting lines after a fashion - Clark Terry 'plays' Puck in Up and Down, Up and Down (I Will Lead Them Up and Down), and Johnny Hodges turns in one of the most sensuous performances of his career for Half the Fun, from Antony and Cleopatra.

    Musicians:

    • Duke Ellington (piano)

    • Johnny Hodges

    • Russell Procope (saxophone)

    • John Sanders (trombone)

    • Britt Woodman (trombone)

    • Ray Nance (trumpet)

    • Clark Terry (trumpet)

    • Jimmy Wood (bass)

    • Sam Woodyard (drums)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    The Hard Stuff

    120g Red-Opaque Vinyl

Limited Edition Vinyl Reissue Of The Iconic MC5 Guitartist's First Solo Album, Originally Released In 1995 On Epitaph

Wayne Kramer is a songwriter whose reputation writing music for film and television could very well supplant his legend as one of the world's stellar
guitarists. Wayne was a teenage greaser and leader of the MC5, widely recognized as the prototype for punk rock and heavy metal. In 1969, the MC5
released the incendiary album Kick Out The Jams on Elektra Records. After Elektra dropped them due to "radical antics", they released two albums on
Atlantic: Back In The USA, produced by Bruce Springsteen's manager Jon Landau and the masterpiece High Time. Between world tours, Wayne scored
Gold and The Living Theatre's film production of Paradise Now.

Wayne spent 1976-1978 in Lexington Federal Penitentiary, where he was tutored by fellow inmate Red Rodney, trumpeter for the Charlie Parker Quintet.
It was Red who taught Wayne how to read music and the two formed a prison band. After release, Wayne co- wrote the acclaimed R&B musical The Last
Words of Dutch Schultz with Mick Farren, then joined Don Was' revolutionary acid funk band Was (Not Was) as its original guitarist. Wayne helped define
the band's sound through, of all things, the dance hit "Wheel Me Out". In the 1980s in New York City, Wayne teamed up with infamous Johnny Thunders
for a short-lived, headline grabbing, punk rock group Gang War.

In 1994, Wayne moved to Los Angeles and signed with Epitaph Records. He recorded four records in as many years. He produced the album Full Circle
with provocateur John Sinclair and produced an MC5 retrospective collection for Rhino Records entitled The Big Bang, as well as a hits compilation
    Beyond Cyberpunk.

Wayne is recognized nearly as often as a vigorous social activist. Along with wife Margaret Saadi Kramer and British singer Billy Bragg, Wayne founded
Jail Guitar Doors USA, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization that provides guitars for prisoner rehabilitation. Known as "the loudest charity on
planet earth," JGD-USA launched at Sing Sing Prison in 2009 and has since intervened in over 50 adult and juvenile facilities. Shepard Fairey donated
the charity's logo and board member Adam McKay's company Funny or Die donated the design of its interactive site. Shira Piven and Adam McKay
directed a short film entitled The Beast & The Angel for PBS as part of their new LifeCasters series. It is a film about Wayne and it is currently in
    broadcast nationally.

Wayne's brand new album Lexington entered the national jazz charts at #6 in May, 2014. It is the flagship release for the launch of his label Industrial
    Amusement.

Moving forward with the past, Wayne is re-releasing the now infamous The Hard Stuff. The Hard Stuff features members of The Melvins, Clawhammer,
Bad Religion and long-time friend/collaborator, UK anarchist Mick Farren. Released in 1995, this album was the best-selling album of Wayne's solo
career. Nearly 20 years later, Wayne's tunes are finally getting out there again to wow old fans and new fans alike!

It's doubtful that Stephen McBean set out to make The Great Rock 'N' Roll Primer when he started conjuring the
songs that would come to be Pink Mountaintops' Get Back.

The record's beginnings were reasonably straightforward: McBean had moved to Los Angeles, taken a long hiatus
from Black Mountain and an even longer one from Pink Mountaintops when he met producer Joe Cardamone, lead
singer of Icarus Line at Valley Recording Company in Burbank,CA.The two bonded quickly over Flying Nun bands,
Television Personalities, Roxy Music, Johnny Thunders, and Born Against. Joe was excited to meet someone he
actually liked. Stephen was excited to work with someone who said Sing it like you would've sung it when you were
    21. Simple enough,right?

But ask him to set the scene and you'll hear about a motorcycle shop owned by Michael Barragan, former member
of Los Angeles noise rock band Plexi. You'll hear about an endless supply of rock 'n' roll video documentation for
last minute inspiration or de-evolution in the living room.Ask who's on the record and you'll get a constellation of
greats:J Mascis(DinosaurJr &Witch),Rob Barbato (Darker My Love,The Fall & Cass McCombs), Steve Kille (Dead

City Girls, Boris) mixed Get Back at Avast! Studios (Bikini Kill, Mudhoney, Christ On A Crutch, Soundgarden) in
Seattle. Howie Weinburg (Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Danzig, Ramones, Slayer) mastered it in Laurel Canyon.

Ask about the record itself and McBean will tell you about Alleys, curbs, walls, and cigarette stained gig flyers. An
island on the Pacific coast. Fake British towns. Slayer posters. The beauty of youth. It's about listening to Driver's Seat
and 'Guns of Brixton' and hotboxing The Duster. And suddenly it becomes clear: when the aliens do touch down
and they don't know rock 'n'roll, you can play them Get Back start to finish, and that'll be all they need.

Get Back comes out swinging with Ambulance City, a head-trip of a song with a chugging, insistent, oddly timeless
guitar riff sitting front and center. The Second Summer of Love needs almost no explanation; it dives into 80s VHS
saturation and never comes up for air. Sell Your Soul is a deep sigh and a motorcycle ride, a roll in the grass
lamenting summertime blues with a little grit and a little harmony. And North Hollywood Microwaves is
downright obscene. But what better way to start Side B than this? You can listen at hushed volumes so your parents
don't hear, you can crank it in a dorm room, you can smirk to yourself from the safety of rock 'n'roll's old age.You
start to wonder- why don't all Side Bs start with a song like this one

The number of platitudes in music hit critical mass years ago, and among those tropes is that annoying, inescapable
mantra:rock 'n'roll is undefinable. And yeah, sure, that's true. It's different things to different people. It starts with
guitars, maybe, and ends with a stage-dive, or spit, or feedback. Rock 'n'roll is drugs, is rebellion, is youth, is sex, is
cosmic. It's wanting more than you have.Rock 'n'roll is butts and cigarette butts. And Pink Mountaintops might not
be the best-known band ever to make rock 'n' roll, but in Get Back they just might have written its scripture -- an
exploration and celebration of what, exactly, rock 'n'roll can be.

The Great Paris Concert (Pure Pleasure)

This set came about, in part, as a result of Ellington's signing to Frank Sinatra's Reprise label in November 1962, with the ending of his exclusive contract to Columbia. Six numbers from the three Paris dates were initially edited and released by Reprise as part of the ten-song Duke Ellington's Greatest Hits, but the bulk of the performances from those shows didn't surface until many years later as The Great Paris Concert on two LPs. This album "The Great Paris Concert" is raw and largely unedited, and depicts the full Ellington band in extraordinary form, oozing excitement -- from the saxophone showcase on the opener, Rockin' In Rhythm, the various sections of the band take flight at different points throughout this set, which includes such contemporary numbers as Ellington's theme music for an all but forgotten television series, The Asphalt Jungle, and excerpts from Such Sweet Thunder. Johnny Hodges is showcased in several solos, most notably on Suite Thursday, a work whose original studio incarnation he missed appearing on; Cootie Williams (Tutti for Cootie), Paul Gonsalves (Cop Out), Ray Nance (Bula), and Cat Anderson (Jam with Sam) get their own moments in the spotlight.

    Musicians:

    • Duke Ellington (piano)

    • Cat Anderson, Cootie Williams (trumpet)

    • Lawrence Brown, Buster Cooper (trombone)

    • Paul Gonsalves, Johnny Hodges (saxophone)

    • Russell Procope (clarinet, saxophone)
    • Ernie Shephard (bass)

    • Sam Woodyard (drums)

    • Milt Grayson (vocal)

    Lunatic

I'm Only Joking, the opening cut from Lunatic, the sophomore outing from Arizona-by-way-of-South Africa-based indie rockers Kongos, thunders in on a bedrock of thick, tribal toms and similarly dense, compressed guitar that suggests Muse by way of Konono No.1. It's an aesthetic that weaves its way throughout much of the album, and brothers Dylan, Daniel, Jesse, and Johnny Kongos, the sons of South African singer/songwriter John Kongos (who hit it big in 1971 with the single He's Gonna Step on You Again), generate a huge sound for a four-piece. The sleek, circular, and piston-like Come with Me, with its relentless, accordion-driven Soweto pulse and slick, falsetto-driven modern rock flourishes, sounds like Rammstein riffing off of Paul Simon's Boy in the Bubble, while the more refined, yet no less danceable I Want to Know dims the lights for a bout of churning, midtempo reggae with electro-pop tentacles. The worldbeat influences are applied relatively seamlessly throughout, though each of the 12 tracks are, at their heart, radio-ready slabs of stylish alt-rock in the vein of Kings of Leon, pre-Kid A-era Radiohead, and even Coldplay. There's a wan, vaguely Everyman lyricism at work here as well, which makes some of the slower numbers a bit of a chore, but when the band lets it rip, as in the case of top-down, desert road jams like Hey I Don't Know, It's a Good Life, and the aforementioned Come with Me, Lunatic earns the shifty weight of its unhinged moniker.

    Pacific Dust

For the band's seventh full-length studio album, The Mother Hips have never been more primed to share their well-traveled tales, the long days and nights on the road, the gritty politics, the smart inward reflections and most of all the music, all delivered with a most appealing balance of Americana storytelling and their California-burnished rock. Pacific Dust's compositions about penning a song in your kitchen at 3:00 am (the thundering album opener White Falcon Fuzz), record company politics (garage-rock boogie Third Floor Story), and a father and son's relationship through music (on the ballad Young Charles Ives) indeed tell the story of many American rock bands. But here's why it matters: The Mother Hips have survived, and in fact thrived, throughout the journey and Pacific Dust, with its bittersweet melodies, poignant lyrics, and strong and gritty musicianship, is a perfect example of why.

Earlier albums such as Part-Timer Goes Full, Green Hills of Earth, and Red Tandy have become almost cult classics among indie music buffs, and the band's most recent 2007 release, Kiss the Crystal Flake, offered proof that the band still continues to attract new supporters. Over the years, the band has worked with and played alongside a slew of renowned/respected colleagues including super-producer Rick Rubin, Wilco, Johnny Cash, and many others. Today, armed with their newest release Pacific Dust, The Hips are poised to take their experience and talent to yet another level.

Music On Vinyl proudly presents a second release of the COLLECTED albums. The new albums will focus on memorable artists with almost a life span of original intriguing music, covering a timeless musical period!

In the early 1950s a man of short stature attempts to win over his audience. With a hoarse voice he delivers songs that do not catch on. People jeer at him. Tomatoes fly through the air. The Frenchman with Armenian roots slinks off the stage, but does not quit.

Ironically, the song that makes him a household name is the song in which he recalls his agonising trial. The audience reacted indifferently when Charles Aznavour decided to try out his new song on stage. But when he went on to greet the audience for one final time they all stood and gave him a thundering standing ovation.

In the sixties, hits and classics succeed one another. Nobody is bothered any more by his husky voice, by his small stature or his rugged characterful face. The croony For Me Formidable (1963), the heart breaking Et Pourtant (1963) and the nostalgic Hier Encore (1964) confirm his standing as a fan favourite. La Bohème (1965) and Emmenez-moi (1967) turn Aznavour into a superstar.

In La Bohème, there are impressionist painters strolling in the shadows of the SacrÉ-Coeur, the compelling Comme Ils Dissent (1972) is the first chanson after Vichy France to overtly endorse homo sexuality and in the present France Of La Manif Pour Tous (the movement that opposes gay marriage), does it again to sound particularly topical. Camarade (1977) was about the nomenklatura, the ruling elite in the Soviet Union and is a social and historical topic. Avec Un Brin De Nostalgie is an Aznavour grand cru, maybe even the best he has made over the last thirty years.

COLLECTED by Charles Aznavour is a wonderful collection of hits and classic by the French artist that touches your soul at every moment. It's an overview of his work during the sixties, seventies and duets with Johnny Hallyday on Il Faut Savoir and with Frank Sinatra Young At Heart. Also his English versions of How Sad Venice Can Be, The Old Fashioned Way, She and four more English songs are included on this deluxe Trifold 3LP album.

Bebe Buell's first studio offering in 10 years takes the listener back to the days of Max's Kansas City and there's even a nod to Joey Ramone ("Black Angel") and a Johnny Thunders tune here.
