    The Open Road

Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt's 2010 New West Records album, The Open Road. The blues driven rock set is the legendary songwriter's 19th studio release and first since 2008's critically acclaimed Same Old Man. Backed by his touring band (Kenny Blevins/drums, Patrick O'Hearn/bass and Doug Lancio/guitars), the songs here are inspired by life on the road, but this time he isn't looking back. All the other years, my songs are about coming home, Hiatt says. But within these 11 new songs, home is never the destination. Hiatt produced The Open Road himself after recording with his band in his garage-turned-studio in Nashville, TN.

    Rock 'n Roll Blues

Luther Dickinson enters a new phase of his storied musical
career with his rollicking and raw new solo album, Rock 'n
Roll Blues. From the propulsive beat and unbridled sound of
opener Vandalize, to the insanely catchy Bar Band, it's clear this
is a unique chapter in the acclaimed Southern musician's
songbook. More informed by a youth spent listening to punk rock
than the blues and boogie rock of his revered band North Mississippi
Allstars, the record consists mostly of acoustic guitar, stand up
bass and drums and although not punk in sound, it is in spirit and
the DIY ethos. In essence, an autobiography set to music, the
10-track LP traces Luther's journey from excitable teen to
tour-van vet and offers a side of himself seldom seen before.

The son of the late great producer and musician Jim Dickinson,
Luther made his recording debut at age 14 and has recorded
with a who's who of musicians including The Replacements,
Beck, Jon Spencer, John Hiatt, Levon Helm, Mavis Staples,
Ry Cooder and Patty Grifffin. He is the lead guitarist and vocalist
for the North Mississippi Allstars and widely known as both a
talented musician and producer with four Grammy® nominations
to prove it - three in the contemporary blues category and one in
    traditional folk.

Chris Shiflett And The Dead Peasants

Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants is a new project from Shiflett, already known as the lead guitarist for Foo Fighters and the frontman for Jackson United. Steeped in his love for classic country artists (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings), rockabilly (Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran), and deep-rooted rock bands (The Rolling Stones, The Replacements), this new album is packed with soulful pedal steeland twang guitar-accented songs. The album highlights his talent and versatility not only as a skillful guitarist, but also as a songwriter. These infectious Americana-laced rock songs are some of the best hes penned, from the chiming keys and buoyant, ringing guitars of Get Along to the pedal steel- and mandolin-lined heartache of Bandaged, and from the spry, Old 97s-ian Baby, Let It Out to the rueful country swing of Death March.

Shiflett wrote the songs on Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants over the course of 2008-09, inspiration first striking when a friend asked him to perform at Orange Countys punk-rockabilly Hootenanny festival in 2008. After re-immersing himself in his Americana and old country music collection to prepare a short set and then playing a brief acoustic tour with friend Joey Cape of Lagwagon, he began writing what eventually became the new album. Recorded at the Foo Fighters Studio 606 in Los Angeles, CA, this past December and January, the core band on Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants is Shiflett (vocals, guitar), 606 house engineer John Lousteau (drums, in addition to engineering), and Derek Silverman (keyboards). The albums additional instrumentation was performed by an array of fine musicians, including Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello and The Imposters, Jenny Lewis, John Hiatt) on bass, Greg Leisz (Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Whiskeytown) on pedal steel, Stevie Blacke (Beck, Weezer, Colbie Caillat) on violin and mandolin, and Audra Mae on backing vocals.

    Terms Of My Surrender

John Hiatt adds another chapter to his storied career with the release of Terms Of My Surrender. Produced by longtime collaborator and Combo member, Doug Lancio, Terms of My Surrender is rooted in the blues. It adds an exciting dynamic to one of America's finest singer-songwriters.

Hiatt and his band, The Combo, have gained a reputation for captivating crowds at their live shows as The Tennessean depicts: He prowls the stage, delivering the bluesy stuff in a whiskey-burn howl, shouting the rock stuff and fronting a formidable band that can turn on a dime, from ballads to bombast. John Hiatt's career as a performer and songwriter has spanned more than 30 years and everyone from Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, BB King, Bonnie Raitt and Iggy Pop has covered his work.

    Trinity Lane (Pre-Order)

This record was written mostly in the summer of 2016 in my apartment off of Trinity Lane. A few tunes came out on the road as well. After moving out of an ex's house, I settled into a new neighborhood down the road. Shortly after, I picked up a tour with my good friend John Moreland where we went to the West Coast and back. I was trailing them in my little 2002 Honda Accord that has literally been all over the country with me. A woman in my early 30s, I found myself sick of my same old shit. I was inspired by the landscape of the west. My faith was tested on the curves of the Highway 101 through the Red Woods. I got terrifyingly stoned on weed gummy bears in Denver. I saw real cowboys in Wyoming and drove through a flood in Arkansas. I felt displaced, but connected.

Upon returning to the south, my home of Tennessee, I slunk back into my nook off of Trinity. I went over all the things I'd seen. There had been a freedom in being so far away - a lack of responsibility, a distance from some of the issues, if you will, though I'd carried them right with me, back to my birthplace of Los Angeles, peering over the ocean, wondering how you can come so far yet end up in the same place. I contemplated fleeing and just staying in California, but the south is my home and I had to deal with what needed to be dealt with. I started to write. And go to the park. And listen to records. And play my guitar every night. Every time I wanted a man, I picked up my guitar. Every time I wanted a drink, I picked up my guitar.

Love will take you to the darkest places but also to the most honest places if you let it. Learning how to love myself is something I've always been lousy with, and I spent some time on that. I thought about my sobriety, what that means to me, the struggles I'd had throughout the years, since I was a 27-year-old and hung up my toxic drinking habit. I thought about my mother, who took her own life when I was a baby, not far from my age at 30 years old, and I related to her more than ever. As you can see, there was plenty of time spent on my own. I didn't talk to that many folks, albeit a few close friends, and leaned into my family. I stayed away from men, and danced alone in the evenings, looking out my window observing my humble and lively neighborhood. I found power in being by myself. I found peace in the people I was surrounded with - we didn't really know one another, but we smiled when passed on the street. One time I almost rear-ended an older woman in her car backing out of my driveway and I said, Oh man, I'm just not used to any cars coming around this bend. She replied, This is our little hideout, baby. And it really was. The woods were behind me, Dickerson Pike was in the front.

So after a while, I had all these songs to play, and wanted to share them. I wanted to get out of town to get some distance from everything, so after an ongoing conversation with Michael Trent, I took my band to Johns Island, SC and we holed up for a few weeks. I poured my heart out, and trusted them with it, and these guys gave it right back. I think we all understood what it's like to question home, intention, demons, love....I think most people understand that. I hope you love this record, I made it for you.

    Black Rock

Just awarded the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the U.K.'s prestigious Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, bluesrock guitar hero and singer-songwriter Joe Bonamassa is set to release his tenth full-length solo album, BLACK ROCK, on March 22, 2010. This album was recorded at, and named for, Black Rock Studios in Santorini, Greece. "With this album, we wanted to explore a 'world' feeling, and this was the inspiration behind going to record in Greece and using some of the best Greek musicians to add a little flavor to a couple of the tracks. But it's by no means a 'world' album. We wanted Joe's usual youthful and energetic tones to play alongside the worldly vibes of the Greek bouzouki and clarino," said producer Kevin Shirley. Bonamassa says, "It was the kind of record Kevin and I wanted to make. We needed to rock again a bit like on my first album. I wrote the whole thing there." Also Joe signed up Blues legend B.B. King for a duet on his new album. The song they perform together is a rendition of the Willie Nelson-penned song, "Night Life," which appeared on King's 1967 album BLUES IS KING. Shirley says about the experience, "This is a rollicking Stonesy-vibe version of the Willie Nelson song on which B.B. King duets with Joe, both vocally and on his famous Lucille guitar. What a joy and an honor to work with the legend who is possibly the pivot point and unifying musician between Blues and Rock." Other tracks appearing on BLACK ROCK include Jeff Beck's "Spanish Boots," Leonard Cohen's poetic "Bird On A Wire," Otis Rush's "Three Times A Fool," Bobby Parker's "Steal Your Heart Away," Blind Boy Fuller's "Baby, You Gotta Change Your Mind," John Hiatt's "I Know A Place," and James Clark's "Look Over Yonders Wall," as well as the originals "When The Fire Hits The Sea," "Quarryman's Lament," "Wandering Earth," "Athens To Athens," and "Blue and Evil."

    See The Light

See The Light is the debut album by The Jeff Healey Band, released in 1988. See The Light may be similar to Stevie Ray Vaughan's high-octane Blues-Rock, but in blues and blues-rock, it's often the little things that count, such as guitar styles, and there's no denying that Healey has a distinctive style.

Healey plays his Stratocaster flat on his lap, allowing him to perform unusual long stretches that give his music real heart and unpredictability. Throughout the album, his guitar work keeps things interesting, even on slow ballads like Angel Eyes (one of two John Hiatt songs, by the way, along with the ripping Confidence Man).

That's what keeps See the Light interesting, and it's what makes it an intriguing, promising debut. It made the top 100 Albums in Canada in 1989, and was nominated for an Album of the Year Juno Award a year later.

    King's Record Shop

The 30th Anniversary of King's Record Shop is on 12 180-gram vinyl.

Originally released through Columbia Records on June 26, 1987, King's Record Shop proved a pivotal album in the career of Rosanne Cash and in the emergence of Americana as an heir to traditional country music. After working on a series of albums which contained singles introducing a new wave/pop sound to America's country charts, producer Rodney Crowell shifted gears on King's Record Shop to bring a more roots-oriented, contemporary folk approach to the genre.

One of the most critically-acclaimed albums of Cash's discography, King's Record Shop generated four #1 hits on the Billboard Country charts: her covers of Johnny Cash's (her father's) Tennessee Flat Top Box, John Hiatt's The Way We Make a Broken Heart, and John Stewart's Runaway Train as well as If You Change Your Mind, a song she'd co-written with steel guitar player Hank DeVito (who shot the photos used on the iconic front cover of King's Record Shop).

    Play Me Backwards

First released in 1992, Play Me Backwards holds a very special place in the rich recording history of Joan Baez. The albums sessions brought her back to Nashville for the first time since the series of four albums she had recorded in Music City between 1968 and 1971. Returning to Nashvilles familiar environment two decades later and collaborating with producers Wally Wilson and Kenny Greenberg proved to be a perfect fit. Joan reaffirmed her unique ability to identify and interpret successive generations of songwriters whose music had the ability to speak to her: Mary Chapin Carpenter (Stones In the Road), John Stewart (Strange Rivers), John Hiatt (Through Your Hands), the duo of Janis Ian and Buddy Mondlock (Amsterdam), and Ron Davies (Steal Across the Border and The Dream Song, co-written with Joan). Play Me Backwards also contains four songs that Joan co-wrote with her two producers (Play Me Backwards, Isaac and Abraham, Im With You, and Edge Of Glory, one of the last occasions on which she has contributed to an album as a songwriter.

Adding historic provenance to this reissue is a second disc containing previously unreleased demos of 10 songs which were contemplated by Joan and her producers, heard here for the first time. Some of the songwriters are not widely known, such as the late Mark Heard (Rise From the Ruins, Lonely Moon), John Hadley (The Last Day) or Gary Nicholson (Trouble With the Truth); and one writer is not known at all (Medicine Wheel). On the other hand, there are additional songs from Janis Ian (We Endure) and Ron Davies (Dark Eyed Man, originally recorded by Kevin Welch as Dark Eyed Gal); and one that Joan wrote with Greenbergs wife, the respected Christian artist Ashley Cleveland (In My Day). Fans will be immediately drawn to Joans version of Bob Dylans Seven Curses (his adaptation of the traditional Child ballad The Maid Freed From the Gallows aka Anathea), the only one of these songs previously recorded by Joan (on the live album Bowery Songs in 2005).

By all accounts, Play Me Backwards is said to be the album that began the renaissance of Joan Baezs career that has continued through 2008s Grammy-nominated Day After Tomorrow. Play Me Backwards is an album whose impact will continue to reverberate for decades to come.
