Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the deluxe soundtrack re-issue to 1982's sci-fi horror classic, JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING. Composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone, the soundtrack to THE THING is a landmark musical composition that is cold, dark, minimal, and effective.

Considered to be John Carpenter's directorial masterpiece, THE THING is praised as one of the greatest films of its genre by both fans and critics. Starring Kurt Russell and A. Wilford Brimley, THE THING follows a team of researchers in Antarctica as they are infiltrated by a parasitic extraterrestrial life form that assimilates other organisms and then imitates them. The classic soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone effectively captures the cold, isolated tone of the story and film, and marks one of the few John Carpenter directed films that Carpenter did not score himself.

Waxwork Records worked for two years to ensure that such a highly anticipated and sought after vinyl soundtrack re-issue would meet and exceed expectations of the biggest fan of John Carpenter and his sci-fi / horror tour de force that is THE THING.

Features include the complete Ennio Morricone soundtrack re-mastered from the original master tapes, 180-gram White Snow colored vinyl, all new artwork by Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, deluxe heavyweight packaging including satin coated old-style gatefold jackets with UV spot-gloss varnish, and an 11" x 22" poster.

    The Fog

180 Gram, White And Green Colored Vinyl

John Carpenter's 1980 follow-up film to his smash hit Halloween featured ghost sailors terrorizing a Californian coastal community as a dense fog descends on their homes. The multi-talented filmmaker's atmospheric synthesiser score has long been a soundtrack favourite and this double album features a 20 track LP of the entire score, drawn from the original tapes, remastered by long-time Carpenter collaborator Alan Howarth on the A/B sides and the original album which featured 20 minutes of newly released music on the C/D sides.

"I went back to Sound Arts Studio in central Los Angeles and quickly began composing and recording new tracks. Dan Wyman, my creative consultant on Assault On Precinct 13 and Halloween was at my side programming the synthesizers, keeping a critical eye on my multi-tracked performances and maintaining quality control over the long hours of recording and mixing. And, out of all this frenzy, re-working and re-structuring, I produced what I consider to be one of my best scores" - John Carpenter.

    Lost Themes

John Carpenter has been responsible for much of the horror genre's most striking soundtrack work in the fifteen movies he's both directed and scored. The themes can instantly flood his fans' musical memory with imagery of a menacing shape stalking a babysitter, a relentless wall of ghost-filled fog, lightning-fisted kung fu fighters, or a mirror holding the gateway to hell. The all-new music on Lost Themes asks Carpenter's acolytes to visualize their own nightmares.

"Lost Themes was all about having fun," Carpenter says. "It can be both great and bad to score over images, which is what I'm used to. Here there were no pressures. No actors asking me what they're supposed to do. No crew waiting. No cutting room to go to. No release pending. It's just fun. And I couldn't have a better set-up at my house, where I depended on (collaborators) Cody (Carpenter, of the band Ludrium) and Daniel (davies, who wrote the songs for I, Frankenstein) to bring me ideas as we began improvising. The plan was to make my music more complete and fuller, because we had unlimited tracks. I wasn't dealing with just analogue anymore. It's a brand new world. And there was nothing in any of our heads when we started other than to make it moody."

As is Carpenter's style, repetition is the key to the thundering power of these tracks, their energy swirling with shredding chords, soaring organs, unnerving pianos and captivating percussion. Horror fans will be reminded of Carpenter's past works, as well as ancestors like Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells and Goblin's Suspiria.

"They're little moments of score from movies made in our imaginations," Carpenter says. "Now I hope it inspires people to create films that could be scored with this music."

    Lost Themes Remixed

John Carpenter has inspired countless musicians since his earliest minimal, synth-based film scores. The themes to his features like Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, and Escape from New York have remained instantly recognizable since he penned them nearly four decades ago. In February 2015, Sacred Bones released his first solo record of non-soundtrack music, Lost Themes, to overwhelming critical success. The Horror Master proved that not only could he perfectly score his own films - he could also score the movies in your mind. Eight pivotal contemporary electronic artists were moved to reshape the original songs on Lost Themes in tribute to one the genre's great pioneers. Several of the remixes were released as part of the digital deluxe edition of the album, but Lost Themes Remixed marks the first time any of the tracks have been on vinyl.

Assault on Precinct 13 / The Fog

12 Housed In Deluxe Mylar Mirrorboard Sleeve

Much of the power of the best films by the cult director John Carpenter can
be attributed to their use of music - music that, more often than not, was
composed and performed by Carpenter himself. What began as a necessity for
the low-budget productions by Carpenter became a major part of his aesthetic,
and established him as a pioneering figure in genre-film score work as well as
electronic music in general. Now, flanked by his son Cody Carpenter and godson
Daniel Davies, and with two albums (Lost Themes and Lost Themes II) of nonsoundtrack
material under his belt, Carpenter has decided to revisit some of his
    most beloved themes.

Assault on Precinct 13 was the first feature film Carpenter made after film school,
and he made it partially as an urban reimagining of Rio Bravo, a film by his idol,
Howard Hawks. In Carpenter's movie, a soon-to-be-closed police precinct is
placed under siege by a gang who have taken a blood oath to kill someone inside.
Assault is a classic, not least of all because it has perhaps Carpenter's best-loved
theme. The theme's main synthesizer line, partly inspired by the score to Dirty
Harry and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," is catchy and dread-inducing in
    equal measure.

Carpenter's theme for The Fog is one of his finest, and creepiest. In the film, a
weather-beaten old fisherman tells an ancient tale of betrayal and death to fascinated
children as they huddle together by their campfire. As a piece of driftwood
in a child's hands glows with spectral light, an eerie fog envelops the bay, and
from its midst emerge dripping demonic victims of a century old shipwreck,
seeking revenge. The spooky synthesizer tone in Carpenter's composition evokes
the advance of the fog itself, helping to make this a quintessential horror score for
    a classic horror movie.

This 12 release includes the themes to Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fog, newly
rerecorded by Carpenter and his Lost Themes bandmates. May it serve as a bridge
between the Horror Master's legendary, still relevant past and his remarkable
    present.

    It Follows Soundtrack

"Rich Vreeland's score deserves a mention all by itself-heavily John Carpenter-influenced, the blaring atonal drones of ascending volume are so omnipresent and willfully overblown that it's where the film's two-sided ambition is most fully realized." -THEPLAYLIST

The acclaimed score to It Follows by Disasterpeace is receiving the vinyl treatment. This release is pressed on 180 gram vinyl and features original artwork by Midnight Marauder.

Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, It Follows has been a highly praised film on the festival circuit. The horror/thriller tells the story of 19-year old Jay who, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, finds herself plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, or something, is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her teenage friends must find a way to escape the horrors that seem to be only a few steps behind.

Video game composer, Disasterpeace, composed the synth heavy and pulsating score. The electro, 80's influenced score is a character itself in the film and has been praised wherever the film has been screening.

Halloween / Escape from New York

12 Housed In Deluxe Mylar Mirrorboard Sleeve

Much of the power of the best films by the cult director John Carpenter can
be attributed to their use of music - music that, more often than not, was
composed and performed by Carpenter himself. What began as a necessity for
the low-budget productions by Carpenter became a major part of his aesthetic,
and established him as a pioneering figure in genre-film score work as well as

Daniel Davies, and with two albums (Lost Themes and Lost Themes II) of nonsoundtrack
material under his belt, Carpenter has decided to revisit some of his
    most beloved themes.

Halloween was Carpenter's breakthrough as a feature film director. Made for
$300,000, it was the most profitable independent movie of its day, and to date has
spawned several sequels, becoming an renowned franchise; its stories, characters
and scores known the world over. It tells the story of Michael Myers, who brutally
massacred his sister 15 years ago and escapes from from a mental hospital on
Halloween night to relive his grisly crime again and again. The film's pulse is the
eerie 5/4 piano theme that Carpenter places at the center of its pivotal scenes. It's
a classic theme that stands tall alongside Psycho, Jaws, and The Exorcist as one of
the most famous - and greatest - in horror movie history.

The dystopian action thriller Escape from New York is another Carpenter classic,
uniting the director with his greatest muse, Kurt Russell. In the film, Manhattan
has been turned into a maximum security prison whose population consists of
street punk gang escapees, and Russell's Snake Plissken must rescue the President,
whose plane has crashed on the island. The minimal synthesizer theme that
tracks Plissken's journey across this ravaged vision of NYC is one of Carpenter's
    defining works as a composer.

This double A sided 12 release includes the themes to Halloween and Escape from
New York, newly re-recorded by Carpenter and his Lost Themes bandmates. These
new masters have never been previously released. The 12 is available as a deluxe,
mylar-sleeve black vinyl and a limited-edition picture disc, both with new artwork
by Jay Shaw. May this release serve as a bridge between the Horror Master's
legendary past and his remarkable present.

Clear With Green Splatter Colored Vinyl

John Carpenter wasn't just a sci-fi and horror master, one of the best and most innovative directors of his generation-he was also a highly accomplished soundtrack composer whose pioneering use of synthesizers to create suspense and dread in his film scores influenced musicians both within the film world and without. And the score he composed-along with Shirley Walker-for his 1996 dystopic sequel Escape from L.A. offered the creeping, atmospheric tension that Carpenter fans crave; although, as this film was set in L.A. and featured plenty of dark humor, Carpenter and Walker threw in a bit of rock 'n' roll as well.

The original soundtrack release included a mere 16 tracks and came out on CD exclusively; now, Real Gone Music not only has added another 16 tracks to the release, but is also bringing it to vinyl for the very first time! And not just any vinyl; do you remember how in the film Snake Plisskin is infected with the plutoxin virus that will prove fatal within ten hours unless he retrieves the "Sword of Damocles" super weapon and receives the antidote? Well, our limited edition (of 1500) double-LP is being pressed on test tube clear with plutoxin virus green splatter vinyl just make sure you don't let the vinyl scratch your skin! Lost Themes II

The musical world of Lost Themes II is also a wider one than that of its predecessor. More electric and acoustic guitar help flesh out the songs, still driven by Carpenter's trademark minimal synth. This manifests itself brilliantly in songs like lead single Distant Dream, which hitches a familiar Carpenterian beat to an expressive drum performance and rides it to a thrilling conclusion. The eerie Angel's Asylum lets an ethereal synth line command the first three-quarters of the song, before turning over the melody to an acoustic guitar, and Virtual Survivor delivers a blast of the sci-fi menace that characterized his great scores for films like Assault on Precinct 13 and They Live. Lost Themes II delivers eleven compelling new tracks for which fans can continue to score the movies in their minds.

Contact is the new duo of A.E. Paterra (aka Majeure) of
famed sci-fi synth-rock group Zombi, and acclaimed
British film composer, Paul Lawler. Exploring a similar
orbit as Majeure and Zombi, multi-instrumentalist Lawler
infuses heavy doses of melody and drama to give First
Contact a sound and feel that blends late 70s Pink Floyd
sprawl, the nostalgic wonder of early 80s science
    documentaries, and John Carpenter's 80s sci-fi action
films. Equal parts fascinating and euphoric, Contact is
two masters of their respective crafts finding common

While aware that they were working on a comedy, composers Daniel Mudford & Pete Woodhead wanted to make a score that was deadly serious and let the comedy do its own thing. "We wanted to "play a straight bat," as the English say, and treat the film as though it was a sincere and genuinely terrifying scenario." says Mudford. In doing so, they crafted a score that fits in perfectly along side the great horror scores that inspired it.

Pete & Dan's band, 'The Sons Of Silence,' was previously featured in Edgar Wright's television show Spaced before it became part of the behind the scenes soundtrack to the writing, and casting portions of production of the film. "Indeed, many of the doomier, dubbier tracks of from The Sons of Silence would blend in perfectly with my playlist, made up of John Carpenter scores, Goblin rock outs and library tracks from Dawn of The Dead. So even before Dan and Pete were definitely scoring the movie, they were already scoring the movie." Says Edgar.

Beyond The Black Rainbow (Original Soundtrack)

JAGJAGUWAR & Death Waltz Recording Company are proud and excited to release a true
masterpiece into the world with the soundtrack to Panos Cosmatos' BEYOND THE BLACK
RAINBOW. Posited as a lost film of the 1980s, the picture is inspired by classic dystopian
fiction and the obscure SF movies one used to see lining the shelves of the local video store. As
such, the brilliant soundtrack blends seamlessly amongst its influences; Tangerine Dream,
Wendy Carlos, and of course John Carpenter, with the latter's mark heard on the oppressive
synth percussion of the main titles and the evocative melodies heard throughout. Created by
Sinoia Caves, the ongoing project of Jeremy Schmidt, a disciple of the long-form cosmic
synthesizer soundscape, and member of Canadian psych-and-prog-spiritual pioneers Black
Mountain, this recording also features guest appearances by Joshua Wells, drummer of Black
    Mountain.

Schmidt's score is many things - haunting, uncompromising, intense - but is always a
fascinating listen. Incorporating touchstone elements such as mellotron choirs, glacial
analogue synthesizer pads and arpeggiators, Schmidt artfully navigates the various sonic
sensibilities of the 70s-80s genre aesthetic. What emerges from this schematic realm of the
'almost familiar' evolves and manifests as a work of striking originality, an ominously
beautiful, otherworldly and terrifying score. Simply put, BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW is
an astounding piece of work and must not be missed. Do you read me?

    Fantasy

Lightning Dust - the duo comprised of Amber Webber and Josh Wells - tends to thrive in the spirit of
    change.2007'sself-titled debutwas a hushed,intricate folk affair,while 2009'sInfinite Lightfound a middle
ground between Suicide and Fleetwood Mac era pop. So when they geared up to make the music that
would become Fantasy, the pair waslooking for a new sonic stamp.
Lightning Dust'sthird properfull length findsitsinspiration in skeletalsynth pop, modernR&B beats, the
films of John Carpenter and - in accordance with Lightning Dust's only longstanding rule - absolute
    minimalism.

The core of Fantasy lies as much in the songwriting as in its sonics, and begins with tools
familiar to Webber and Wells: her acoustic guitar and his Wurlitzer piano. They worked to distill the
arrangementsto justthe fewkey elementsthatwere necessary to make the feelright, and through countless
hours of labor in The Balloon Factory - their Vancouver studio - the songs found their way to a sonic
palette more squarely electronic than either expected.
The first product of this experimentwasNeverAgainwhichwas previously featured on a 7in 2011 and
now closes the new album. It is a menacing, almost gothic electro-pop churner, marching from an
oscillating beat to an anthemic thunderstorm of synth textures. Like many of its cohorts, the song came
together slowly: beginning with a barebones acoustic demo and honed through their new sonic prism,
NeverAgain became not only a bouncing synth opus but a thesisstatement of sortsfor Fantasy.
Knowing now where they were going, the path began to take shape. The duo was keen to use a purely
synthetic palette for Fantasy, but instead of toiling away in front of a computer,Wells armed himself with
an MPC 2000 - a cumbersome, outdated machine, but one that proved to be the perfect tool to keep the
spirit of absolute minimalism alive in their new musical terrain.

    The time-honored producer's weapon of
choice became Wells' entrance to the world of programming, one that empowered him to work by feel
alone. Webber, meanwhile, mined the freedom she felt singing along to records as a child, and strove to
write vocal melodies and singwith a more extroverted pop sensibility. The hooks are apparent, andWebber
sings with a self-assurance that beliesthe extent to which Fantasy marks a new, uncharted sonic space for
    the band.

By beginning at the end, Lightning Dust has delivered an album that informs their sound in remarkable
new ways. Fantasy is a hypnotic, exciting record, recklessly new without sacrificing the rich atmosphere
that makes Lightning Dust who they are. Loaded Gun is a robotic riot grrrl anthem, while Agatha
standstall as an ominouslullaby.Fire, Flesh and Bonerecallsthe best cinematic newwave ballads, while
acoustic heartbreaker Moon makes the rest of the world disappear. And so while Lightning Dust's
destination was never an exact place, Fantasy is as vivid a place as you've everimagined.

Originally issued as a limited cassette on Mirror Universe Tapes, Wet Leather is fully realized with 6 bonus tracks and expanded artwork. The Slasher Film Festival Strategy has recorded countless releases over the last 17 years. Think of Wet Leather as the score to an unrealized film that channels b-movies, slasher films, horror, and of course John Carpenter. Aquarius Records speaks highly of SFFS. This guy does it way better than most. The synth sounds are thick and gristly, the melodies sinister and ominous, the tracks laced with skeletal drum machines, and sweeping epic backdrops, as far as Carpenter / Goblin worship goes, it doesn't get much better than this. The Underside Of Power

    Includes 12-Page Booklet Insert

"This is revolutionary music in the truest sense of
the word. It demands action. It requires penance. It
    destroys expectations." - Stereogum

"The Death Grips of gospel torching the South's
    dark underbelly." - Rolling Stone

This is the musical response that dark times demand, one
that not only shakes its fist but deploys it. Locally-informed
global citizens, Algiers refuse to sit idly by while most
contemporary artists appear perfectly content to sit out the
revolution. Not only do Algiers harbor a purposeful sense of
obligation in what they do on their latest resistance record
The Underside Of Power, but they recognize the roots and
thorns of precedent in said resistance.

Beyond the technical necessities living their respective lives
both in and outside of music, Algiers' continued deviation
from a more traditional band approach created a more
versatile sound, one that better incorporates a collective
and respective panoply of influences and styles.

Some of this is informed by their choice of collaborators in
this process, a crew that includes Adrian Utley [Portishead],
Ben Greenberg [Uniform, The Men], Randall Dunn [Sunn
0)))], among others. Pick any track off The Underside of
Power and the reference points expand exponentially, a
dizzying and thrilling Recommended-If-You-Like list that
would consume a series of afternoons.

Poke at the seasoned members' bruised flesh, and out
come wafting touchpoints as disparate and intriguing as
Big Black, Wendy Carlos, John Carpenter, Cybotron, The
Four Tops, Portishead, Public Image Limited, Steve Reich,
and Nina Simone, to name but a few. Deep echoes of Black
Lives Matter and its 20th-century forebears gather, surge,
and subside in their often soulful work, a form of principled,
acute dissent more interested in learning from the past
    than in evoking nostalgia.

    Time To Go Home

Chastity belt is a rock band consisting of four friends - guitarists Julia Shapiro and Lydia Lund, bassist Annie Truscott, and drummer Gretchen Grimm. They met in a tiny college town in eastern Washington, but their story begins for real in Seattle, that celebrated home of Macklemore and the twelfth man. Following a post-grad summer apart, a handful of shows and enthusiastic responses from the city's diy community led them, as it has countless others, into a cramped practice space. They emerged with a debut album, No Regerts, sold it out faster than anyone involved thought possible, and toured America, a country that embraced them with open-ish arms. Now they're back and the tab is settled, the lights are out, the birds are making noise even though the sun isn't really up yet: it's time to go home, their second long-player and first for hardly art. In the outside world, they realized something crucial: they didn't have to play party songs now that their audience didn't consist exclusively of inebriated 18-22 year olds, as it did in that college town. Though still built on a foundation of post-post-punk energy, jagged rhythms, and instrumental moves that couldn't be anyone else's, the songs they grew into in the months that followed are equal parts street-level takedown and gray-skied melancholy. They embody the sensation of being caught in the center of a moment while floating directly above it; shapiro's world spins around her on on the floor, grounded by Grimm and Truscott's most commanding playing committed to tape. They pay tribute to writer Sheila Heti on drone and John Carpenter with the thing, and deliver a parallel-universe stoner anthem influenced by electrelane with joke. recorded by JosÉ Díaz Rohena at the unknown, a desecrated church and former sail factory in anacortes, and mixed with a cathedral's worth of reverb by Matthew Simms (guitarist for legendary british post-punks and one-time tourmates Wire), time to go home sees Chastity Belt take the nights out and bad parties of their past to their stretching points, watch the world around them break apart in anticipatory haze, and rebuild it in their own image with stunning clarity before anyone gets hungover.
