    Rainy Day Music

180 Gram Remastered Vinyl With Bonus Tracks

Rainy Day Music begins the next chapter in the storied career of The Jayhawks - a band readily cited as among the pioneers of the "alt country" sound.
The Jayhawks' seventh album backs away from their super-pop releases like Smile and the underrated Sound of Lies and looks back to their earlier,
rootsier sound. A crisp, gorgeous collection of songs, the back-to basics Rainy Day Music took The Jayhawks a mere six weeks to record and mix from
start to finish. The album channels the ghosts of the Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Buffalo Springfield, and interpreting their '60s folk jangle and lazy,
sunny harmonies through The Jayhawks' own sweetly awkward formula. The first six tracks are all vintage Louris gems -- trembling and honest, with
warm melodies and hooks for days. Frontman Gary Louris says of the album "It has a rainy day, English countryside kind of feel to it. I think we have been
described as a very American band with a very British songwriting style. Maybe that has something to do with it." This remastered edition includes bonus
    tracks.

    Tomorrow The Green Grass

On Tomorrow the Green Grass, the Jayhawks found themselves in the tricky situation of trying to match the quality of Hollywood Town Hall without simply repeating themselves, and they came remarkably close to achieving that daunting task. Rather than simply mimic the warm and unaffected sound of Hollywood Town Hall, the Jayhawks reached for a broader and more eclectic approach on Tomorrow the Green Grass; with the presence of new keyboard player Karen Grotberg and the addition of strings on several tracks, the album certainly sounded fuller and more artful, but Mark Olson and Gary Louris' harmonies were still the band's secret weapon, and were as pure and emotionally compelling as ever, while Louris' electric guitar solos gave the songs real rock & roll muscle without disturbing the essentially gentle nature of their music. And the best songs on Tomorrow the Green Grass are every bit as good as anything on Hollywood Town Hall, especially the opening hat trick of Blue, I'll Run Away, and Miss Williams' Guitar (the latter a joyous love letter to Olson's new bride, Victoria Williams). But while nearly every song on Hollywood Town Hall seemed like a classic in context, the greater stylistic variety of Tomorrow the Green Grass had the consequence of making a few of the songs in the second half of the album seem less than essential, most notably Ann Jane and Pray for Me, though they hardly counted as disappointments, and the album rallies to a rousing finale with Ten Little Kids. If Hollywood Town Hall is inarguably the Jayhawks' best album, Tomorrow the Green Grass runs a very close second, and though it was to be the group's last album with Mark Olson, the eclectic approach pointed the way to the sound and style of the fine records the Louris-led version of the band would go on to make.

Originally released in 2000, Smile marked a move away from The Jayhawks' long-time Alt-country style to a more Pop approach. However, one thing never changes on their albums; the blissful melodies and well-constructed songs. As soon as you hear the opening notes of album opener "Smile", there'll be a smile on your face.

Both Rolling Stone and Spin magazine named The Jayhawks one of the most inuential bands of the decade, so the band in fact had all the reasons to smile. This LP, produced by Bob Ezrin (Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, KISS), is just another piece of excellent work by The Jayhawks. It's got it all: hooks, riff, harmonies and melodies.

    Paging Mr. Proust

Paging Mr. Proust finds the 2016 Jayhawks still remain one of America's foremost rock bands: based around leader Gary Louris' gift for melody that has made them such a respected and seminal group for almost three decades. Paging Mr. Proust features the long-time core of the Jayhawks: Gary Louris (lead vox/guitars), Marc Perlman (bass), Tim O'Reagan (drums/vox), and Karen Grotberg (keyboards/vox).

From the jangle of album opener "Quiet Corners & Empty Spaces" to the trademark harmonies of "Isabel's Daughter" to the more pensive "Lover Of The Sun", it is clear that The Jayhawks' power remains undiminished from their initial national impact, 1992's Hollywood Town Hall. Other tracks such as the sludgy rocker "Lost The Summer", the kraut-rock groove of "Ace" and the taut minimalism of "Comeback Kids" bring new sounds to the palette. Paging Mr. Proust shows a commitment to adventure and forward motion, which makes this collection of songs exciting and instantly memorable.

    Sound Of Lies

180 Gram Remastered Vinyl With Bonus Tracks

Following Mark Olson's amicable departure, the remaining Jayhawks reconvened under the direction of Gary Louris to record Sound of Lies, the band's
most ambitious album to date. Like Wilco's Being There, Sound of Lies uses country-rock as a foundation and wanders off into a variety of different sonic
territories, including surf rock and Beatlesque pop, bringing the music closer to the sound of adult alternative pop/rock. Although the surface of the album
is pleasant and melodic, Louris has written a uniformly harrowing set of songs, inspired both by the dissolution of his partnership with Olson and a recent
divorce. The lyrics have a naked, emotional honesty which would have been more affecting if the music echoed its sentiment, yet the record still has a
subtle grace and power, proving that the Jayhawks remain a distinctive band without Olson. This remastered edition includes bonus tracks.

    Songs For Slim

THE SONGS FOR SLIM series was constructed in order to raise
money for former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap's medical costs,
the result of a massive right brain stroke he suffered in 2012. Fellow
Replacements members Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson
reunited and recorded an original Slim Dunlap song plus three
additional covers. Original Replacements drummer Chris Mars also
recorded a Slim cover and all five tracks were combined on a limited
edition run of 250 numbered copies of 10" vinyl EPs. These EPs
were auctioned in January and raised a staggering $105,743.42.
Future auctions of split 7" singles with artists such as Steve Earle,
Lucinda Williams, Craig Finn (from The Hold Steady), Deer Tick,
Jakob Dylan, John Doe, The Jayhawks and Frank Black, all covering
Slim's songs, will commence on the 15th of each month and run for

    First Time On Vinyl!

With Smile, the Jayhawks drop yet another sizable chunk of their alt-country sound by the roadside, adding in its place healthy doses of power pop and
modern electronic music. Almost half of Smile's songs feature looped percussion, overdubbed drum tracks, or flat-out, funky backbeats. Despite the
modern touches, though, the fact remains that Smile retains just enough of a distinctly Americana feeling. On the warm and twangy Better Days, one of
Louris' best songs, he sings with genuine regret and heartache the way he treated a long ago lover, and on Break in the Clouds he celebrates the
comforts of domestic contentment, complete with pedal steel and soaring harmonies that recall the band's landmark work Hollywood Town Hall from
1992. What never changes on the Jayhawks' albums, it seems, are the blissful melodies and well-constructed tunes. This remastered edition includes

    Mockingbird Time

During their heyday in the first half of the 1990's, The Jayhawks perfected a captivating sound that seamlessly blended the elegant folk-rock of The Byrds, the adventurousness of Buffalo Springfield, the hippiebilly soulfulness of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and the soaring harmonies of The Beach Boys. So it's richly ironic that their reappearance coincides with a dramatic resurgence of the musical approach they played such a central role in perpetuating. But this time around, The Jayhawks themselves are revered as icons by the young bands carrying on those same traditions, and it's their own legacy that they're advancing.

On Mockingbird Time, their eighth album, and the first with the original lineup since 1995's Tomorrow The Green Grass, they're once again pushing the envelope on songs and performances of rarefied dynamism and grace. The album's shapes and textures range from the string-laden grandeur of Hide Your Colors and the widescreen vistas of Tiny Arrows to the streamlined 12-string jangle of She Walks in So Many Ways and the amphetamine frenzy of High Water Blues.

"These songs are ultimately and admirably patient and fluid, building not to grandiloquent climaxes but to a greater and greater complexity of meaning." - Pitchfork

"The songs are all-encompassing. They sweep you up. They really get to you." - Washington Post

Ghetto Bells matches the poetic power of Vic Chesnutt's words with some of the most elegantly simpatico backing he's ever been blessed with, including jazz icon Bill Frisell on guitars, legendary writer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Van Dyke Parks on piano, accordion, and organ, Don Heffington of Lone Justice and the Jayhawks on drums and percussion, classically trained session-man Dominic Genova on double bass, Tina Chesnutton electric bass and Liz Durrett on exquisite backing vocals. At the time,Vic Chesnutt had released a dozen albums in 15 years. Ghetto Bells has apowerful resonance that reveals itself slowly. A pair of seven-minute pieces are the heart of the album, both moving forward slowly, but ever so purposefully. One of them, "Rambunctious Cloud," is further sweetened by the presence of Van Dyke Parks on accordion and a staggering guitar solo from Bill Frisell.

    Sweeten The Distance

The first line of the title track on Neal Casal's tenth studio effort Sweeten The Distance says much about where the storied singer/songwriter/guitarist finds himself in his career: Nothing's gonna stop you now, everything you want is coming in good time. After 20-plus years of writing songs, recording albums and touring the world, there's a confidence and patience in his latest work that reveals an artist in full creative flight.

Produced by Thom Monahan (Fruit Bats, Devendra Banhart, Vetiver), Sweeten The Distance is indeed a defining moment in Casal's discography. Rich acoustic textures and sophisticated melodies of songs like Bird With No Name, and Need Shelter and Gyrls of Wynter give way to a psyched-out ambience on White Fence Round House, Feathers for Bakersfield and How Quiet It Got.

The depth of production, with its purposefully layered sounds and oceanic atmospherics, makes Sweeten The Distance as much a multi-dimensional headphone experience as a soul-stirring modern songwriter record. And as such, Casal emerges as an essential voice in the new cosmic California movement.

In addition to his critically acclaimed solo work, Neal Casal made a name for himself as the lead guitarist in Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, with whom he recorded four albums: Easy Tiger, Follow the Lights, Cardinology and III/IV. Currently he serves as a central component of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood with whom he contributes lead guitar and vocal harmonies. Over the last year, Casal also added guitar and vocals to Ryan Adams Ashes & Fire, Fruit Bats Tripper, The Jayhawks Mockingbird Time, Vetiver The Errant Charm and a forthcoming recording by Beachwood Sparks.

The Sadies return with their fifth studio album, New Seasons. Featuring the brotherly harmonies and dazzling guitar interplay of Dallas and Travis Good, New Seasons is the band's most confident studio album to date. The Sadies' inspired amalgam of psychedelic country rock, surf, bluegrass and Ennio Morricone-inspired instrumentals has made them the preeminent torchbearers of cosmic American music.

This time, the band that has previously collaborated with Neko Case, Jon Spencer and Garth Hudson has brought Jayhawk Gary Louris to produce the album's gorgeously layered harmonies. New Seasons proves that The Sadies have the vocal chops to equal their instrumental mastery. The Sadies follow the roots of American music to their logical end and in a transcendent leap of faith, forge on to new planets, new worlds, New Seasons.

Canadian singer/song writer David Wiffen's 1971 self titled album, originally released on Fantasy Records, is now being reissued by 4 Men With Beards. The album is a showcase for David's rich baritone voice and his world weary, laid back songs. Revelator is a dramatic leap forward for both Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks in every respect, from the songwriting and the production to Tedeschi's vocals and Trucks' guitar playing. Their new 11-piece band is an aggregation of talented musicians related by experience, and blood, and clearly adds to the notion of Revelator as a true group album.

Tedeschi and Trucks co-wrote the album's 11 tracks with an impressive list of songwriters including: Jeff Trott, John Leventhal, David Ryan Harris and Sonya Kitchell, Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), Oliver Wood (Wood Brothers), Doyle Bramhall II, Erick Krasno (Soulive), Mike Mattison, Kofi Burbridge and Oteil Burbridge.

In addition to Tedeschi and Trucks, Revelator features bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers) and keyboardist/flutist Kofi Burbridge (The Derek Trucks Band), drummers J.J. Johnson and Tyler Greenwell, trumpeter Maurice Brown, tenor saxophonist Kebbi Williams, trombonist Saunders Sermons and harmony singers Mark Rivers and Mike Mattision.

L.A. based indie supergroup The Living Sisters, comprised of Inara George (The Bird And The Bee), Becky Stark (Lavender Diamond), Eleni Mandell and newest 'sister' Alex Lilly, have followed up their critically adored 2010 album Love to Live with the standards collection, Run For Cover. The six song EP, with its intricate retro harmonies and righteously old-school instrumentation from the likes of drummer Don Heffington (Lone Justice, The Jayhawks) and pedal steel master Greg Leisz, provides listeners with some perspective as to the various sources of The Living Sisters' zesty musical recipe, which weaves together 40s pop vocalizing, 50s doo-wop, jazz, folk and country elements in a seamless melange, according to the L.A. Times' Randy Lewis.

    Wild Animals

Wild Animals, the highly anticipated album from critically acclaimed Trampled by Turtles,
produced by the lead singer-songwriter of Low, Alan Sparhawk, and recorded in the legendary Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN (Nirvana, Andrew Bird, The Jayhawks).
Of the new music Dave Simonett (guitar, vocals) notes, "We all tried to come into this
thing extremely open-minded. How can we sound new to ourselves? I feel like the sound
has changed and is changing, especially from Palomino to now. A lot of our reputation
from even just a couple years ago was that we were this fast band, which we can do,
and we do that. But this record focused a little bit more on other aspects of our playing
    together."

    Temporary People (Awaiting Repress)

Temporary People is the second LP by Joseph Arthur And The Lonely Astronauts, a NYC-based collective. Arthur, along with guitarists Kraig Jarret Johnson (The Jayhawks) and Jennifer Turner (Fur Slide, Natalie Merchant), drummer Greg Wieczorek (Twilight Singers) and bassist Sibyl Buck, descended upon the Catskill wilderness to conjure what Arthur testifies as a fully-realized, awesome explosion of rock and roll. The best and truest things are born out of necessity, Arthur explains. I hung onto the recording of this album like a man in the middle of the ocean would to a a piece of wood floating by, you can hear it in the songs and you can hear it in the band pulling together. This album is the sound of survival. The follow up to 2007's Let's Just Be, Temporary People finds the Astronauts steeped in rattling anthems (Faith, Temporary People), unearthly rock revivals (Dead Savior, Look into the Sky) and classic country inspired hymns (Say Goodbye, Turn You On).

Jo is one of those rare writer-performers where you get the sense, whatever your belief, that something greater is being channeled through his music and voice. Like Patti Smith, Grant Lee Phillips, Thom Yorke, he trances and the voice, the meaning, becomes bigger than him, bigger than a few pop chords or words strung together. It touches something very deep and universal. - Michael Stipe, R.E.M.

Nomadic Southern evangelist Leon Followill may take soap suds to the mouths of the kinfolk wunderkinds--his three sons and a nephew--in Tennessee quartet Kings of Leon, whose second album spins enough cuss phrases and sexual allusions to leave Dolly Parton flushed. But the peculiar 20-something longhairs also fuel up on a filthy shotgun bass and relentless guitar riffs, complementing the delightfully discordant drawl of vocalist Caleb Followill to whittle a 35-minute grab bag of garage rock, English blues, sixties psychedelia, London Calling-ska, spaced-out country waltzes and front-porch, red-state revelry. Without revising its 2003 debut Youth & Young Manhood, producer Ethan Johns (The Jayhawks, Ray LaMontagne) steers the band down a similar mischievous road, integrating poles-apart rhythms and techniques into an energized jumble of rotating tempos and lyrical bombshells. Putting faith in earth-shakers like 'Velvet Snow' and 'Pistol Of Fire,' the wound down and pleasing 'Milk' and its yodeling cousin 'Day Old Blues,' the Kings of Leon ultimately escape Preacher Leons retribution, rendering him speechless--save for a simple 'amen.'

    Traveling Alone - Expanded Edition

    3 180 Gram Vinyl LPs!

Includes a hardbound lyric book and three custom postcards

After The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and hometown newspaper The Raleigh News & Observer heralded Traveling Alone as her best album yet, it would have been easy for Tift Merritt to sit back and enjoy the praise. Instead, she embarked on national and international tours, released the classical hybrid album Night with pianist Simone Dinnerstein and dug even further into Traveling Alone to create the beautiful new expanded edition box set. One year after its initial release, the exquisite expanded version comes packaged with an illustrated hardbound lyric book. Merritt commissioned the images from artist Diana Sudyka to help bring her words to life, packaged in a vintage book inspired by her travels and penchant for old fabrics, wallpapers and bookstores. Equally exciting, in addition to Traveling Alone, bonus album Traveling Companion features 10 unreleased acoustic tracks, including Merritt originals and two covers of Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits, recorded this year in Brooklyn's Mason Jar Music studio with guitarist Eric Heywood (The Jayhawks, Son Volt, Alejandro Escovedo). The premiere vinyl LP version includes three 180-gram LPs that span both Traveling Alone and Traveling Companion, the hardbound lyric book and three custom postcards. This is a must-have for Tift Merritt fans new and old.

    Too Far To Care

    Pressed On 180-Gram Audiophile Vinyl

    Includes Insert

The Old 97's are an alternative country/rock band from Dallas, Texas formed in 1993.

They are recognized as pioneers of the alt-country movement during the mid to late 90s along with bands such as Uncle Tupelo, Drive-By Truckers, Whiskeytown, The Jayhawks, and The Bottle Rockets.

Too Far To Care is the third studio album by the band, originally released in 1997. The album's title comes from the song Streets of Where I'm From.

Lyrically the band's constant touring is evident in songs like Barrier Reef (with references to Chicago), Broadway (in New York City), and Niteclub (inspired, according to the band, by clubs in Cleveland, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan).

Four Leaf Clover was originally recorded on Hitchhike To Rhome, the first Old 97's album. Rhett (vocals/guitar) was searching for a duet to record with friend Exene Cervenka and had started work on an old-fashioned duet that I thought we might sing, but Exene proclaimed it 'too pretty'. That song later became Fireflies. Instead, Exene sang on Four Leaf Clover, replacing the lyric nothing to impress you with nothing to attract you which Rhett found much sexier.
