The Nashville Sound (Pre-Order)Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist Jason Isbell and his mighty band, the 400 Unit, have announced the release of their highly anticipated new album, The Nashville Sound (Southeastern Records/Thirty Tigers). The Nashville Sound is the follow up to 2015's critically acclaimed Something More Than Free, which won two Grammy Awards (Best Americana Album & Best American Roots Song, "24 Frames") and two Americana Music Association Awards (Album of the Year & Song of The Year, "24 Frames"). See Highlights.
Without exaggeration, Jason Isbell has become one the most respected and celebrated songwriters of his generation. He possesses an incredible penchant for identifying and articulating some of the deepest, yet simplest, human emotions, and turning them into beautiful poetry through song. "There's no better songwriter on the planet at this moment, no one operating with the same depth, eloquence or feeling," says American Songwriter Magazine. Isbell sings of the every day human condition with thoughtful, heartfelt, and sometimes brutal honesty, and the new album is no exception.
The Nashville Sound features 10 new songs that address a range of real life subject matters that include politics and cultural privilege ("White Man's World"), longing nostalgia ("The Last Of My Kind"), love and mortality ("If We Were Vampires"), the toxic effect of today's pressures ("Anxiety"), the remnants of a break-up ("Chaos and Clothes") and finding hope ("Something To Love"). Songs such as "Cumberland Gap" and "Hope The Highroad" find Isbell and his bandmates going back to their rock roots full force.
The Nashville Sound was recorded at Nashville's legendary RCA Studio A and produced by Grammy Award-winner Dave Cobb, who produced Something More Than Free and Isbell's celebrated 2013 breakthrough album Southeastern. The Nashville Sound is the first official Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit album since 2011's Here We Rest. The 400 Unit features Derry deBorja (keyboards), Chad Gamble (drums), Jimbo Hart (bass), Amanda Shires (fiddle) and Sadler Vaden (guitar).
Jason Isbell's music speaks to so many who often feel as though his songs were written specifically for them. Isbell's lyrics and sincere delivery cut to the core and make genuine, lasting connections. The Nashville Sound helps to remind us how music continues to unite and connect us all. It is a comforting thought at a time when understanding, compassion, and honesty seem to be an afterthought.1. Last Of My Kind

Here We RestHere We Rest is the second album from Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit and follow-up to their acclaimed 2009 self-titled debut. An Alabama native, Isbell comes from a tradition of Southern music. He proudly embraces his roots, which shine through in his songs and even in the title of the new album. Here We Rest was Alabama's original motto. However, instread of resting comfortably within its boundaries, Isbell, along with keyboardist Derry deBorja, guitarist Browan Lollar, drummer Chad Gamble and bassist Jimbo Hart transcend them. His thoughtful songwriting and warm, soulful voice are genuine, natural abilities that come through in the music.1. Alabama Pines

SoutheasternSoutheastern, the new solo album from Jason Isbell, contains 12 new Isbell compositions and the most personal songs of self-reflection and discovery he has written to date. The lyrics of the beautiful and haunting opening track Cover Me Up, make it immediately apparent that Isbell is speaking from an entirely new viewpoint. The song features his strongest vocals to date, but also kicks the door to his soul wide open for all to see. Isbell struggled, fought his demons, and has remained sober for over a hear now. Also, he was recently married and has entered the next chapter of his life. However, Southeastern is not an album preaching sobriety, but a work of repentance, self-realization and most importantly, personal growth.
By no means is Southeastern a wholly solemn offering. Tracks such as Stockholm (with Kim Richey) and Traveling Alone (with Amanda Shires) offer laid back tempos and memorable choruses, while Flying Over Water and Super 8 are strong reminders of Isbell's deep roots in rock. The poetic and deeply intimate lyrics are the common thread that runs throughout the album, perhaps no better illustrated than on Live Oak.1. Cover Me Up

The Sirens Of The DitchFor the past six years, Jason Isbell was one of three frontmen for the critically acclaimed Drive-By Truckers and although fans may have been shocked by his departure from the band in April of 2011, once you hear this, his solo debut Sirens Of The Ditch (which was co-produced by Isbell and Patterson Hood) it will only confirm that Isbell by no means is putting his feet up. Musicians joining Isbell on the album include Shonna Tucker (bass) and Brad Morgan (drums) with cameos from Patterson Hood, his father David Hood, Spooner Oldham, John Neff and more.
Recorded over the past four years at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals (Aretha Franklin, Duane Allman, Otis Redding), Sirens Of The Ditch is a diverse collection of songs that incorporates elements of rock, blues and soul music into a heartfelt mix of songs that favor piano and pedal steel over buzzing guitars, although theres a fair share of overdriven amps here as well. A lot of old soul musicians came through here in the late 60s and 70s and helped define the Muscle Shoals sound, the lifelong Alabamian explains, so that influence was always in my environment, but on this record I really tried to capture that.1. 3The third full-length release from L.A.-based duo HONEYHONEY, 'III' is an album born from fascination with the sweet and the sleazy, the light and dark, the danger and the magic. Since Ben Jaffe and Suzanne Santo released the critically-acclaimed 'Billy Jack' in 2011, they've kept on the road, growing their fan base tenfold both at home and internationally. Working on this new album with Dave Cobb (the producer behind Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson), lead singer/banjo player/violinist Suzanne Santo and vocalist/guitarist Ben Jaffe twist their gritty, harmony-driven brand of Southern-flavored rock & roll through tales of lost souls, broken boys and girls with gold in their spit. The two songwriters also take a mirror to their own experience in lust and heartache - never shying away from revealing the messy truth. This album reflects their continued growth, and holds nothing back. It's easy to understand why HONEYHONEY's following ranges from lovers of the Black Keys and White Stripes to The Civil Wars. Whether they rattle, soothe or joyfully inspire, HONEYHONEY instill each song with a straight-from-the-gut honesty and elegance of storytelling that make 'III' both cathartic and electrifying.1. Dead Man's Town: A Tribute To Springsteen's Born In The U.S.A.2014 marks the 30th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The U.S.A.'
Although it would become his biggest selling album with seven top 10 singles
on the Billboard Hot 100, Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars
says "any of those songs could be played with acoustic guitar alone and
still be great." Taking this idea as its premise, 'Dead Man's Town: A Tribute to
Born in the U.S.A' strips the album's twelve indelible originals to the core, with
contributions from Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires, Low, Nicole Atkins, Justin
Townes Earle, Blitzen Trapper, Joe Pug, Trampled by Turtles, and more. Rolling Stone premiered Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires' Dave Cobb-produced
cover of "Born In The U.S.A," saying these artists are "reimagining 'Born in
the U.S.A.'... with a reduced approach more influenced by that of the acoustic
Isbell says of his cover, ""Born In The U.S.A." is one of my favorites
because so many people have seemingly misunderstood the lyrical content
and the song's overall tone. When you listen to the demo, the dark, minor key
arrangement makes it clear that this is not strictly a song of celebration.
We wanted to stay true to that version." Amanda Shires adds, "I love that
the song paints a picture of struggle in the face of the American dream, and
the irony in the chorus is delivered with such force that it nearly
transcends irony altogether."1. Born In The U.S.A. - Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires

Down Fell The DovesAmanda Shires landed everywhere from NPR's Tiny Desk to the Grand Ole Opry to the cover of Texas Music as their Artist Of The Year in 2011. Now she's back with 'Down Fell The Doves' set for release via Lightning Rod Records. The album's 11 original songs feature Amanda's sharpest writing to date, brought to life by a voice that melts, a fiddle that sears, and guitars - played for the most part by her husband, Jason Isbell - that scrape and howl.
Shires has blossomed into a truly original voice with 'Doves,' which was produced by Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, REM) and recorded at his Chase Park Transduction studio in Athens, GA. Bulletproof ponders invincibility with the help of a Siberian tiger claw. Wasted and Rollin' casts a deep, impressionistic fog. For Deep Dark Below Shires' attention shifts to the underworld, where the devil plays fiddle with a bow made of bones. Song for Leonard Cohen has a softer touch, imagining a drunken evening stroll with the master songwriter.
Now based in Nashville, Shires began playing fiddle at age ten in Texas. By 15, she had joined the Texas Playboys, former backing band of western swing pioneer Bob Wills. More recently she has toured and recorded with Snider and Justin Townes Earle who says, With a voice that whispers Dolly and lyrics that scream Faulkner, this girl shines like a diamond.1. Jekyll + Hyde Marked The Band's Third Consecutive #1 Debut On The Billboard 200 Chart
Three-time GRAMMY winners and multi-platinum artists Zac Brown Band have become one of music's most heralded acts. Their latest album JEKYLL + HYDE marked the band's third consecutive #1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart. Together with their three platinum-selling albums, Uncaged, You Get What You Give, and The Foundation, and their 2013 project The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1, the band has sold over seven million albums to date. On the radio, the band has earned a historic series of thirteen #1 hit radio singles and became only the second artist to top both the country and active rock formats. Zac Brown Band are currently out on their largest North American Stadium Tour to date which includes two history making performances - a first ever three-night run at Fenway Park, and the first ever concert at Coors Field. Additional stadiums include Wrigley Park, Nationals Park, Citi Field, Comerica Park and Citizen's Bank Park.
Describing the album's direction, Zac told Rolling Stone earlier this year that it will have things that people will expect and things that they don't. Homegrown the band's highest chart debut, has earned massive fan support and early praise for its rock feel (Country Weekly) and intricately arranged vocal harmonies (Billboard); Dress Blues, written by Jason Isbell, is a somber and stirring tribute to members of the military who have been killed in service; and Heavy Is the Head features Chris Cornell, the multi Grammy winning singer/songwriter and legendary front man for pioneering rock bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. TravellerChris Stapleton's highly anticipated solo debut album, Traveller, will be released on Mercury Records Nashville. As a special preview, a behind-the-scenes album trailer can now be viewed here.
Already a world-renowned songwriter, Stapleton has enjoyed five #1 hits including the five-week No. 1 "Never Wanted Nothing More" recorded by Kenny Chesney, George Strait's "Love's Gonna Make it Alright" and Luke Bryan's "Drink A Beer," which Stapleton recently performed with Lady Antebellum at the recent CMT "Artists of the Year" show (watch the performance here).
Recorded at Nashville's historic RCA Studio A (with additional production at The Castle and Blackbird Studio), Traveller was produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell) and recorded by Vance Powell (Jack White). In addition to renditions of Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove's "Tennessee Whiskey" and Don Sampson's "Was It 26," the album features twelve original songs, including fan-favorite "Sometimes I Cry." Last night, during a special album reveal party, Stapleton returned to RCA Studio A to record a new version of "Sometimes I Cry" live-to-tape in front of an audience-allowing a unique, once-in-a-lifetime glimpse inside the making of the album. The track is currently being mastered and will be added to the final track-listing very shortly.
Of his inspiration behind the record, Stapleton comments, "This record was made standing on the shoulders of friends, family, and heroes. I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I've enjoyed making it."
Over the course of his acclaimed career, Stapleton has penned over 170 album cuts, including songs recorded by Adele, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley, and has such notable co-writers as Vince Gill, Peter Frampton and Sheryl Crow among others. Additionally, Stapleton has shared the stage with such respected artists as Gill, Alison Krauss, Marty Stuart, Emmylou Harris and more. Shine On Rainy DayOut on Low Country Sounds/Elektra Records, Shine On Rainy Day was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, etc.) and recorded live over four days in Nashville.
Of the music and working with producer (and cousin) Dave Cobb, Brent comments, "It's not as good as it's going to get. But if it's the last thing that I ever do, if I died the day after it came out, then thank God I was able to record it because the songs and the production, it was everything I wanted to say. Finally."
Dave adds, "I wanted to work with Brent for very selfish reasons. When he lifts a pen and opens his mouth, it sounds like home. I did his record because he's part of the fabric of South Georgia and the soundtrack to my family. Pure rural country soul filled music."
Already receiving notice, Brent was recently featured on WXPN's World CafÉ (listen to the full session here), while Rolling Stone featured him as one of their "30 Must-See Acts" at CMA Fest 2016, asserting, "Live, he's every bit the charming raconteur, setting up catchy rural anthems that have the loose and earthy feel of a front porch sing-along."
Additionally, earlier this year, Brent was featured on Dave's widely praised Southern Family compilation-contributing the song "Down Home" and writing the standout "Sweet By & By," which was recorded by Miranda Lambert. Of "Down Home," Wide Open Country declares, " one of the most earnest and accurate retellings of everyday life in rural Georgia. The mixture of Cobb's charming southern drawl, brilliant storytelling and flawless production melds into a track that is impossible to resist."
Born in Ellaville, GA (population 1,609), Brent moved to Nashville in 2008 and has since found widespread success as a writer with songs recorded by Lambert ("Old Shit"), Kenny Chesney ("Don't It"), Luke Bryan ("Tailgate Blues"), David Nail ("Grandpa's Farm"), Kellie Pickler ("Rockaway") and Eli Young Band ("Go Outside and Dance") among others.1. REDD-THI-2310xMary Chapin Carpenter
The Things That We Are Made OfThe Things That We Are Made Of, the new full-length album by renowned and beloved singer, songwriter and performer Mary Chapin Carpenter, will be released on Lambent Light Records via Thirty Tigers.
Produced by 2016 Producer of the Year Grammy-nominee Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton), the album features eleven new songs, including the lead track "Something Tamed Something Wild. Of the song, Rolling Stone praises, " beautifully sums up where she's been and sets the stage for what's yet to come 'Something Tamed Something Wild' and indeed the entire new album finds the songwriter at her most thoughtful and also at times sweetly whimsical, perfectly capturing the buoyant spirit of her early successes and also serving as a reminder that she remains one of the most grounded, sentient songwriters of her generation."
The Things That We Are Made Of was recorded at Nashville's Sound Emporium and Low Country Sound studios during the spring and summer of 2015. In addition to Carpenter (vocals, electric/acoustic guitar), the album features Cobb (electric/acoustic/gut string guitar, percussion, Moog, Mellotron), Annie Clements (bass), Brian Allen (bass), Chris Powell (drums, percussion), Mike Webb (piano, B3 organ, reed organ, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes) and Jimmy Wallace (piano, B3 organ).
Of the album, Carpenter comments, "Working with Dave felt great from the first day of our sessions. He is always willing to try something new, believes that 'yes' is the only answer, and surrounds himself with wonderfully talented and generous musicians; by the end of the project, I felt as if I was a part of a new family." Cobb adds, "I wanted to work with Mary Chapin because very few people can cut with words like she can. She's an absolute poet and legend. I was so happy to collaborate on this album together."
Over the course of her acclaimed career, Carpenter has recorded 14 albums and sold over 14 million records. With hits like "Passionate Kisses" and "He Thinks He'll Keep Her," she has won five Grammy Awards (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards, two Academy of Country Music awards for her vocals and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Most recently, in 2014, Carpenter released her acclaimed debut orchestral album, Songs From The Movie. Arranged and co-produced by six-time Grammy winner Vince Mendoza, the record is comprised of ten previously recorded compositions including "Between Here and Gone" and "Come On Come On." New LoreNEW LORE - THE ALBUM:
I've always been tied to the idea of having each record sound different from the one before it, and there's no exception with this one. My writing on this one is really reflective of the story that I've been living out over the past few years--as a musician, a father, and a human trying to navigate this crazy world. It's also the stories that we all share: the everyday stuff, and the big stuff. As always, I poured my heart into these songs. When I came across the opportunity to link up with an internationally acclaimed producer who I have long admired, I knew he would be able to add some deep mojo to the recordings.
Matt Ross-Spang (Grammy-Winning engineer of Jason Isbell's Something More Than Free, one of my favorite records of last year) is a musical Willy Wonka, and his Chocolate Factory is the legendary Sam Phillips Studio in Memphis, TN. This place has an unmatched soul and a vibe that stems from the history of Memphis as a haven for many of my musical heroes. I'm incredibly honored and excited to have worked with Matt and the team at Sam Phillips to make this record the best that it can be.

Early Morning ShakesLoud and proud, they sing about what they know with a refreshing directness and clarity. Some call it rebel music, but it's more like everyday soul. Their songs are stories, with relatable characters and situations. Stories of celebration, of mourning,
of trials and triumph. Through the quality of these songs, and the band's undeniable power in concert and on record, Whiskey Myers has attracted a devoted army of outspoken fans who pack venues, sing the band's praises online, and continue to make them a growing word-of-mouth sensation. And now, they stand poised to unleash the thrilling Early Morning Shakes upon the world. Their latest full-length was recorded with noted producer Dave Cobb (whose credits include Jamey Johnson, Jason Isbell, and both Waylon and Shooter Jennings) and represents the culmination of years of dedication, experimentation, and refinement. Visceral and dynamic, the album's 12 songs encompass an impressive range of perspectives and emotions - while finding the band's musicianship honed to a razor's edge. And though Early Morning Shakes is a great step forward creatively, it's an organic one. As guitarist John Jeffers explains, "Staying true to ourselves and to our music has gotten us to the point we're at. We really wanted to continue on that same track."1. Early Morning Shakes

WindfallIf the opening notes on Joe Pug's new LP "Windfall" are a bit disorienting, his fans won't likely be surprised. The Austin, TX singer songwriter has made a habit of defying expectations so the piano-driven "Bright Beginnings" and the atmospheric rumination of "Great Hosannas" are just further indication that he's quite comfortable stepping outside of the guy-with-a-guitar trappings of the genre.
His rise has been as improbable as it has been impressive. After dropping out of college and taking on work as a carpenter in Chicago, he got his musical start by providing CDs for his fans to pass along to their friends. This led to a string of sold out shows and a record deal with Nashville indie Lightning Rod Records (Jason Isbell, Billy Joe Shaver). As he toured behind "Messenger" (2010) and The Great Despiser (2012) it was with a band that looked as much like a jazz trio as an Americana band. "I never quite found a live band that captured what I was aiming for until I connected with Greg [Tuohey--electric guitar] and Matt [Schuessler--upright bass]. It was an arrangement that maybe didn't make a ton of sense on paper but 10 minutes into the first rehearsal I knew this was going to be my band." The following years would have them on the road for over four hundred shows, including stops at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and The Newport Folk Festival.
