    Mellow Yellow

Donovan's fourth album, 1967's Mellow Yellow, is a dynamic transitional effort that finds the singer-songwriter-guitarist expanding his artistry into rewarding new areas. In addition to the sing-along title hit, which famously inspired a persistent urban legend regarding the recreational consumption of banana peels, Mellow Yellow encompasses acoustic introspection (Writer in the Sun), crafty art-pop (Museum), bittersweet insight (Young Girl Blues), beat poetry (The Observation) and a fond nod to British folk icon Bert Jansch (House of Jansch). In addition to the production of British Invasion legend Mickie Most, Mellow Yellow features ear-catching arrangements by future Led Zeppelin member John Paul Jones and sitar by cult singer-songwriter Shawn Phillips. With its original mono mix capturing the vibrant vibes of Donovan during this incredibly creative and productive period, this vintage gem has never sounded better!

    Living In The Shadows

4LP Casebound Book-Back Set, Comprising Jansch's Three Studio Albums From The 1990s (The Ornament Tree; When The Circus Comes To Town; Toy Balloon)

Includes An Additional Disc Of Unheard And Unreleased Material

Both Studio Albums And Dat Transfers, Remastered By Brian Pyle

Signifying a return to form that heralded one of the most prolific periods of his life, this special collection features some of Jansch's finest work. Living In the Shadows includes an extra disc of demos, alternate versions and never-before heard tracks, transferred from Jansch's personal tapes, alongside the three studio albums of the 1990s: The Ornament Tree, When The Circus Comes To Town and Toy Balloon.

This trio of works represents quite different facets of Jansch's talent; where Circus is a bluesy, late-night sounding party, Ornament is altogether more subdued, drawing on Maggie Boyle's bodhran, flute and whistles to creative a sound that is nothing if not celtic. Toy Balloon falls somewhere in the middle, with that feeling of intimacy that is so Bert.

Despite these apparent contrasts, the unifying element is of course, Jansch's guitar. There is an ease about these albums that suggests a musician that has found himself very at home-"just a simple soul", to quote the man himself.

The real draw here for many Jansch fans will be disc four: unreleased tracks (including-let joy be unconfined!-one with John Renbourn), as well as alternative takes of familiar songs from the '90s period. Chosen specifically for their contrast to the studio versions, these tracks are often more stripped-down or without the embellishment typical of the era. Mostly recorded at Bert's home studio, this unheard and unreleased collection, transferred from Bert's own DAT tapes, has a intimate quality that is incredibly moving.

    John Renbourn

English guitarist and songwriter John Renbourn (8 August 1944 - 26 March 2015) was possibly best known for his collaboration with guitarist Bert Jansch as well as his work with the Folk group Pentangle, although he maintained a solo career before, during and after that band's existence (1967-1973).

While most commonly labelled a folk musician, Renbourn's musical tastes and interests took in early music, Classical music, Jazz, Blues and World music. John Renbourn's famous phrase was that I started out trying to play like Big Bill Broonzy, and I'm still trying.

On his 1965 self-titled album you can detect some of the influence on traditional Blues like John Henry and Candy Man. But as a player, Renbourn had already very much developed into his own man, imaginative and complete in technique. As debuts go, you'd be hard pressed to find anything much better in the folk cauldron that was London in the mid-'60s. The genesis of a master.

Young Man Blues - Live In Glasgow

    Limited To 1000 Hand Numbered

The earliest live recordings yet discovered of this hero of British folk were originally released on CD by Ace Records in 1998, 30 tracks of Bert originals, blues and folk covers recorded between 1962 and 1964 by schoolboy Frank Coia.

Now on vinyl for the very first time, these tracks are an important document of early live appearances by a mercurial talent, and the guys at Stamford Audio has launched a very special label to enable the songs to be heard on the beautiful vinyl format.

This is the first release on the Stamford Audio Heritage label, aiming to represent recordings of historical significance on vinyl; it will be strictly limited to 1000 hand-numbered copies and will not be repressed.

    The Pentangle

Pressed On 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl

The Pentangle was the 1968 debut album of the band Pentangle: Terry Cox, Bert Jansch, Jacqui McShee, John Renbourn and Danny Thompson. It brought together their separate influences of folk, jazz, blues, early music and contemporary song-writing. One of the band's most commercially successful albums, it reached number 21 in the British charts.

By the time that the album was produced, the members of Pentangle were already accomplished musicians, in their own fields, and had played together in various combinations. Jansch and Renbourn were recognised as solo artists and played together regularly, including their recording of the Bert And John album. McShee had sung folk and blues in pubs and clubs, and had recorded with Renbourn on Another Monday. Cox and Thompson were experienced session musicians and had played together in Alexis Korner's band.

Often cited by critics and peers alike as a songwriter's songwriter, Zachary Cale has been quietly constructing a catalog for nearly a decade, one which showcases mastery and a unique voice across folk ballads, guitar instrumentals, and country-tinged rock. His songs are marked with his signature finger-style guitar playing and lyrical command as he blends the echoed open-tuned guitar patterns of artists like John Martyn and Bert Jansch with the desolate American lyricism of lone riders like Simon Joyner and Elliott Smith, standing out as a songwriter of uncommon power.

"Zachary Cale is the best singer-songwriter working
    right now. Period."

    (a) reedy, hangdog style supported by songs that are
pure class...this music will wait for you all to catch up."

Cale separates himself from the crowd with a rare balance between emotional depth and ankle-deep Kinks pop sensibilities."

    Cruel Sister

Cruel Sister was an album recorded in 1970 by Folk Rock band Pentangle. All the tracks are versions of traditional songs. Whereas their previous album had been produced by Shel Talmy, and featured quite a heavily produced, commercial sound, Cruel Sister was produced by Bill Leader, noted for his recordings of Folk musicians.

The whole of side two of the album is taken up with an extended version of the ballad Jack Orion, previously recorded by Jansch on his own Jack Orion album. The arrangement on Cruel Sister develops through several sections with different rhythms and instrumentation.

Allmusic gave the album resounding approval in their retrospective review, applauding its dense, layered sound that is woven within the fabric of each song like a tapestry and praising Jacqui McShee's vocal work in particular.

You & Me is Kevin Barker's debut album, released by Gnomonsong. Though it's his first solo release under his own name, Barker's no newcomer to the scene--he's spent the last few years recording, touring, and collaborating with Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Vashti Bunyan, Vetiver, Antony and the Johnsons, and Espers, to name just a few. Essentially acting as everyone's favorite sideman, Barker has influenced and helped create a sound with which this generation is happily familiar. During his college days, Barker became interested in the finger-style guitar playing of John Fahey and Bert Jansch and began to record under the name Currituck County. This solo project (sometime a duo with Vetiver / Espers drummer Otto Hauser) recorded albums for Teenbeat Records, Troubleman Unlimited, and the UK's Track and Field Organisation. Now Barker has assembled an unbelievable group of musicians for You & Me. Produced by Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Lilys, Gary Louris, Devendra Banhart), the album features Pat Sansone (Wilco), Joanna Newsom, Jonathan Wilson (Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis), Eric Johnson (Shins, Fruit Bats), and Otto Hauser (Vetiver, Espers). Full of sunny, rural country rock, You & Me recalls the rustic grooves of The Band and The Grateful Dead, the heady melancholy of Roy Harper, and the golden harmonies of CSNY.

    All Kinds Of You

Ryley Walker is a 24 year-old singer/songwriter and guitarist from Chicago. His debut album All Kinds Of You, will be released worldwide via Tompkins
Square in 2014. Having kicked around Chicago's experimental free/noise music scene for several years, Ryley recently turned to a folk-rock sound inspired by some of
his heroes, among them Tim Hardin, Tim Buckley, and Bert Jansch. The result is a poised and accomplished debut album, recorded in Chicago by
    Cooper Crain (guitarist/keyboardist in Cave).

The West Wind, Ryley's debut 3 song 12 EP released in November, features The West Wind from the forthcoming album, and two B sides: A Home
For Me and Sweet Little Betsy (w/Daniel Bachman). The piece received praise from UNCUT, NPR, BBC, Rolling Stone and many other outlets.

With the charming swagger of jazz-folk troubadour Tim Buckley and the resonant, full picking style of Bert Jansch, 'The West Wind' comes from Walker's
first widely available release, a three-song 12. With acoustic guitar in hand and a voice like browned butter, Walker swings and sways in a lush string-and-piano arrangement right out of Buckley's 'Starsailor'; it slowly picks up to a swirling gallop without bucking the rhythm. - NPR Music

Jason Simon, best known for his work as the guitarist and singer for the seminal heavy psych band known as Dead Meadow, releases his first solo album on Tee Pee Records. This is a stripped down and intimate record filled with intricate guitar work and poignant well-thought lyrics. Some songs are filled with dark brooding drones; others leisurely carry the listener down meandering rivers as they slowly develop in their own unhurried way. There are shades of Bert Jansch, Leonard Cohen, Sandy Bull and Townes Van Zandt, but only shades as this is most certainly its own thing. It is a record to remind the listener that heavy does not come from loud distortion and huge drums, but rather from the depth within the song itself.

    Mind Control

Mind Control (their third full-length album) is set for release in April 2013, following their two debut London sell-out concerts at The Garage. Within it's blood soaked grooves you will hear shocking tales of bizarre desert ceremonies, religious brainwashing and drug inspired mass slaughter!

Imagine the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbath and the Stooges, whilst sitting on murder charges and you may get a glimpse into their fuzzed up world of exploding tube amps and cymbal smashing mayhem. However, this enticing act of musical manipulation is merely the icing upon a very sick cake. Mind Control is a concept album with a theme that makes the acts and intentions of the likes of Charles Manson and Jim Jones seem like petty crimes. What makes Mind Control scarier than most albums is that it doesnt seem as sinister on the surface as it really is deep down within the core of its black acid-drenched world of pain and torture.

The infectious energy surges and pulverizing grooves of Mind Crawler, tell the tale of a man on a mission who has fled from Mount Abraxas after mercilessly murdering all the members of his cult. He rides his motorcycle through the gates of hell and hijacks the weak minds of yet more foolish disciples to join him in his desert hideaway. This is when the real fun and terror truly commences...

There was no escaping the chained-to-the brain hooks and melodies of first single from the album, Poison Apple, but this was merely a trailer for the real hellish delights now to be bestowed upon the earth. Recorded at the legendary Chapel Studios over an autumnal full moon using the finest western electrical technology, engineer Jim Spencer (Bert Jansch, Robert Wyatt) has perfectly captured the bands live sound of saturated fuzz, mind-bending riffs and 60's vocal harmonies. A wider range of influences can be heard from both music and cinema, but their founding principle of presenting light and darkness still remains. Simple and ragged in all its low life glory, Mind Control is the ultimate expose of killer cult madness and mind manipulation.

    Winged Life (Out of Stock)

Talk Talk covering early Elton John or Bert Jansch anticipating the Smiths; that's as close as we can get to describing Shearwater's Winged Life. The truth is, with its elaborate and unconventional arrangements, richly layered production and conscious efforts to not recreate the past, this is a difficult record to pigeonhole. One or two songs on Winged Life partake of the somber, restrained delicacy of Shearwater's last two records, but everywhere else the band has loosened up, allowed that delicacy to bloom or crumble, and is trying new things -- from the dark and urgent groove of Whipping Boy to the buoyant pop of A Makeover, from the The World in 1984's wry soft rock to the almost prog-y tension of Sealed. As a result, Winged Life bridges many musical gaps. Its songs are melodic and narrative-based enough to appeal to fans of Belle & Sebastian, yet unique enough to be mentioned in the same breath as artists like the Notwist or Broken Social Scene.
