    The Payback

The Payback is a 1973 double album by James Brown. It was originally scheduled to become the soundtrack for the blaxploitation film Hell Up in Harlem.
The Payback is considered a high point in Brown's recording career, and is now regarded by critics as a landmark funk album. Its revenge-themed title
track, a #1 R&B hit, is one of his most famous songs and an especially prolific source of samples for record producers. Musically the album is largely
based around cyclic grooves and jamming, but it also features departures into a softer soul-based sound on tracks like Doing the Best I Can.

    In The Jungle Groove

In The Jungle groove is a compilation album by the great James Brown, released in August 1986 on Polydor Records. Originally issued to capitalize on
the popularity of Brown's music in hip hop circles at the time, it includes the first album release of the much-sampled single Funky Drummer (1969),
along with a selection of previously unreleased tracks, alternate takes, and remixes. The album's title is taken from a song Brown recorded in the studio in

    The Birth Of Funk

Nobody in New Orleans laid into the blues so low down and dirty as Buddy Bol-den, whose Funky Butt became a staple in the repertoire of the city's early jazz bands. Jacksonville, Florida, 1960. Charles 'Hungry' Williams mentors young Clayton Fillyau after he had just joined the James Brown band: 'I don't care where you put it on those drums, remember where '1' is and you'll never lose the time.' Listen to Hungry on Huey Smith's Talk To Me Baby and then listen to how Clayton turns it into a relentless breakbeat on James Brown's I've Got Money. Earl King's Trick Bag, prefiguring the Meters, is as good an example of early New Orleansfunk as can be found. Not everything on here was cut in New Orleans. New York singer Vernon Harrel's Slick Chick is held together by an intriguingly syncopated bass line that hints at late '60s Studio One dub. And in case you think any of this was new, listen to Zutty Singleton's drum break on Victoria Spivey's Funny Feathers from 1929. Or Earl Palmer's sixteenth notes, off-backbeat snare accents and double-tempo hi-hats in 1953 on Professor Longhair's Tipitina and Who's Foolin' You.

Live At The Apollo Volume II (Half-Speed Master)

    Abbey Road Half-Speed Master

Pressed On 180 Gram Vinyl And Housed In A Six-Panel Gatefold Sleeve

Live At The Apollo, Volume II by James Brown and The Famous Flames was originally released in August 1968. A follow-up to the original 1963 album, Live at The Apollo, it too was recorded in at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City.

The original album and the 1987 CD release were both edited versions of the show while the 2xCD Deluxe Edition released in 2001 featured a more expanded live set including a 19-minute version of "It's a Man's Man's Man's World.".

About These Abbey Road Half-Speed Masters:

These releases will offer a superior vinyl experience with Half-Speed Mastering from Abbey Road. They have been exclusively re-mastered at Half Speed to bring you a new level of depth and clarity.

This limited edition range, all pressed on 180-gram vinyl, come in deluxe packaging. The initial releases are all iconic deluxe edition titles from great Universal artists - Amy Winehouse, The Who, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Mike Oldfield.

The albums were cut from high-resolution digital transfers from the best-known analogue tapes by Abbey Road mastering engineer Miles Showell, one of the foremost practitioners of this artisan process in the world today. Only minimal sympathetic equalization was applied to the transfers to keep everything as pure as possible. Also, as these are vinyl-only releases, Miles did not apply any digital limiting. This is added to almost all digital releases to make them appear to be loud and is responsible for the so-called "loudness war" and in almost every case is anything but natural and pure sounding.

    Live At The Apollo

Ranked 24/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Live At The Apollo left no doubt in anyone's mind that James Brown was a live, dynamic performer without peers and that his talent could come across just as strongly on tape as in person. It was a watershed album, both for the 'hardest working man in show business' and for the burgeoning soul music movement. Reissued here on Vinyl LP by Universal Records.

    Love Power Peace

First Release Of 3 LP Set As Envisioned By James Brown

Includes Deluxe Jacket With Rare Photos And Liner Notes By Alan Leeds

Mastered From Brown's 1971 Mixdown Reels, Unused Until Now

James Brown's magnum opus! Love Power Peace is the sound of the Godfather and his youngblood J.B.'s (including Bootsy and Catfish Collins) electrifying a crazed Parisian audience on March 8, 1971. Sequenced and mixed by Brown himself for a planned triple album, the set was shelved when key band members departed before it could be issued. Here, for the first time, are the sides as intended, exactly as delivered by James Brown Productions to his label in 1971-a 3-LP set with each disc mastered from the original mixdown reels, and each with a unique name, Love, Power and Peace! Brown and band rip through recent singles like "Sex Machine," "Super Bad," "Give It Up or Turnit a Loose" and "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved" with a metronomic precision laid down by bassist Bootsy Collins and drummer Jabo Starks. "Ain't It Funky Now" - formerly a slow, simmering groove - is transformed into a fast, funky tour de force in which newbie Catfish Collins unleashes one of the most badass guitar solos ever, while a medley of three other Brown standards ("Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"/"I Got You (I Feel Good)"/"I Got the Feelin' ") blazes by faster than the Godfather of Soul's personal Learjet. Interspersed with just the right amount of slow numbers like "Georgia on My Mind," and including tracks from the show's supporting acts that were not included on the 1992 CD (which was a remixed, incomplete show), this document of the funk revolution features rare photos and liner notes by tour director Alan Leeds. The way to jump on board for a trip through James' world at the height of his career!

    Psychedelic Lollipop

The Blues Magoos launched their recording career with a major smash, hitting the Top Five with the brash garage-punk anthem (We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet. That tune is just one of the multiple pleasures of Psychedelic Lollipop, notable as one of the first albums (along with the 13th Floor Elevators' debut) to use the word psychedelic in its title. The band balances swaggering proto-punk attitude, a Beatlesque pop sensibility and adventurous acid-pop experimentalism on such tunes as Gotta Get Away, One by One and Love Seems Doomed. And the Magoos' high-energy workouts on James Brown's I'll Go Crazy and John Loudermilk's Tobacco Road rank with the greatest versions of those much-covered garage-band standards.

This 60s garage-psych nugget is now available from Sundazed on High Definition Vinyl, sourced from the original Mercury-label stereo masters, with the colorful original cover art meticulously reproduced.

In their '60s heyday, the Blues Magoos were one of the first garage-punk bands to achieve mainstream success, and one of the first to embrace psychedelia. Early in their existence, the Bronx-bred quintet's high-energy live sets made them a popular attraction on the Greenwich Village club scene. Once they began making records, they quickly emerged as one of one of the earliest and most inventive exponents of the psychedelic sound. The band's 1966 debut album Psychedelic Lollipop and its 1967 followup Electric Comic Book, are two of that period's most beloved and enduring albums.

to record the concert in its entirety. A limited quantity bootleg LP of the concert soon appeared and then
disappeared from the marketplace, those tapes lay dormant for over 30 years.

This historic recording opens with rapturous applause that sets the tone with Dizzy's own "Blues 'N' Boogie.
"Also featured are several classic standards - some more well known then others - including "Darben The
Redd Foxx," "Time On My Hands," "Get Happy," "The Shadow Of Your Smile" and "Stardust." All the players are
at the top of their game and having a blast, as evidenced by the banter and repartee between songs.

Concert of the Century, pristinely restored and remastered, features two tracks that weren't on the original
pressing from the early '80s - Ralph Rainger's "If I Should Lose You" and an incredible eight minute bass
    solo by Ray Brown.

    Think (about it)

At the time of the release of Think (About It) in 1972, Lyn Collins had been a member of James Brown's performing revue for about two years. Her full-throated voice had earned her the nickname the Female Preacher and a shot to record her own album. Of course, the Godfather was in the producer's chair, writing four of the nine tracks, directing the J.B.'s as they laid down their usual funky grooves, and liberally adding vocals throughout. The title track is the main point of interest here; from Collins' throat-ripping vocals to the track's nasty groove to Brown's background interjections, this is a killer. Just Won't Do Right is a good doo wop-ish ballad with some churchy organ and great vocals by Collins and Brown, Wheels of Life is a nice little groove that sounds like vintage Aretha Franklin, and Women's Lib is a very slow ballad that lets Collins show off her anguished yowl of a vocal to its fullest.--Allmusic

    Feel Good (Pure Pleasure)

Feel Good, not Curtis Mayfield's Superfly, is the sound of early-'70s pimping - even when the tempo slows down, which happens rarely, it's for a slow blues grind, not a ballad, and songs like Tina's Kay Got Laid (Joe Got Paid) make no apologies for mythologizing pimps. This results in a supremely sleazy, utterly addictive record, one that's relentless in its rhythms and fearless in its funk as Ike lays down nasty rock & roll guitar - check his solos on Feel Good, where he's as elastic as rubber - and Tina tears it up with pure, unbridled passion. Feel Good is quintessentially '70s - the fuzztoned funk practically conjures up platform shoes and mile-wide collars - but it doesn't belong to any one sound, it casually draws from Southern soul, James Brown funk, black pride, Superfly style and juke joint R&B, a sound that is uniquely identified with Ike & Tina. And while this contains no flat-out classics like Nutbush City Limits or Proud Mary as an album Feel Good undoubtedly ranks among their very best: it's a non-stop party.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
