    The Iron Man (Half-Speed Master)

Limited Edition Heavyweight 180-Gram Silver Vinyl

Remastered At Abbey Road With Half-Speed Mastering Process

The Iron Man: The Musical by Pete Townshend, originally released in 1989, is an adaptation of Ted Hughes' story The Iron Man, produced and largely composed and performed by Pete Townshend of The Who. It also stars Roger Daltrey, Deborah Conway, John Lee Hooker, and Nina Simone.

The three then-surviving members of The Who (Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Townshend) performed as a group in two songs, Dig and Fire, although the latter was not penned by Townshend. (The Who would later perform Dig live during their 1989 reunion tour.)

A Friend is a Friend and I Won't Run Anymore were released as singles; Fire was also issued as a promo-only in the United States.

A stage version was mounted at the Young Vic theatre in London in 1993. On the strength of this, Warners optioned the story for a movie which, with a very different adaptation of the story, became The Iron Giant; Townshend received an Executive Producer credit.

    South Of The Earth

Limited Edition Features Etching On Side Four

Rising out of the same Maryland/DC mean streets as fellow US doom pioneers Pentagram and The Obsessed, IRON MAN was formed in 1988 as a Black Sabbath tribute band by guitarist Alfred Morris III, whose musical career began in 1977 with mysterious proto-doom cult FORCE. Al's legendarily heavy, unearthly guitar tone was already much in evidence on FORCE's ultra-rare 1981 debut EP - and it has only deepened, hardened, improved and refined in the ensuing 32 years.

Signed to the legendary underground doom label Hellhound Records, IRON MAN released the stellar 'Black Night' debut in 1993, followed by 'The Passage' in 1994, before line-up and label instability forced the band into a late 90s wilderness period. They re-emerged in 1999 with 'Generation Void', before another extended hiatus. This time it took a full ten years before Al reassembled the indestructible IRON MAN with yet another new line-up for the aptly-named return-to-form 'I Have Returned' on Shadow Kingdom.

South of the Earth is, without question, Iron Mans strongest, heaviest release to date. The time has come for a wider audience to finally appreciate the grinding majesty of this true underground phenomena.

    Generation Void

3rd full length album by Iron Man.

Maryland-spawned doom titans Iron Man seemed to drop off the face of the earth after their first two albums, 1993's Black Night and 1994's The Passage, shook the heavy metal world by the scruff of its neck and forced it to bang any head that didn't already bang, as Metallica would have put it. With little rhyme or reason, all of five years would elapse until the group's return to activity via 1999's Generation Void LP, squandering any upward momentum Iron Man might have attained, but belatedly proving that they remained a force to be reckoned with when they actually showed up. So let's take it from the top: most fans and critics would agree that Iron Man's strengths always lay in energized doom templates, and the latest songs cut from that cloth on this album, such as On the Mountain, Boston Strangler, and As the Gods Have Spoken, definitely didn't disappoint this time around, either. At the same time, less orthodox new offerings like Forever Yours and Shadows of Darkness continued to broaden Iron Man's creative resources with leaner heavy metal styles (the N.W.O.B.H.M., for example) and rock-based qualities, revealing that the intervening years of inactivity didn't elapse without some sonic transformation. In fact, stately metal ballads like Winds of Change and the album's title track recalled classic mid-'70s efforts by Judas Priest like Beyond the Realms of Death (with the added benefit of Morris' transcendent soloing), and, alongside tougher numbers like Survivor and King of Kings, which could very well have passed for Stained Class outtakes, they qualified Generation Void as the first Iron Man album where the band's deep-seated Black Sabbath influences were dethroned by another band's. But, given the typically strong material that resulted, there was little cause for complaint, especially from Iron Man's long deprived fan base, which would amazingly have to put up with another Rip Van Winkle-like ten years before getting their gauntlets on the band's fourth studio album, 2010's I Have Returned.

    Woman King

Aside from the immediacy and intimacy of his recorded work, there is one thing clear about Iron & Wine's Sam Beam: he is wonderfully and seemingly effortlessly prolific. In just short of 2 years he has released 2 full-length albums and two EPs. Recorded in August 2004 with Brian Deck at his Engine Studios in Chicago, Iron & Wine's latest release, the Woman King EP, is striking both for its broadened palette (percussion, piano, violin, even electric guitar all crop up here) and its thematic focus on female characters both archetypal and personal. The latter is mostly coincidental, a larger batch of songs yielding recurrent imagery when pared down for this EP. That negotiation with the sexual other might be best summed up with a line from My Lady's House: Thank god you see me the way you do/Strange as you are to me. And, the increasingly complex beauty of Iron & Wine's albums might best be summed up by the following, from SPIN (in a review of Our Endless Numbered Days): It all works because Beam is a fearlessly accessible songwriter, framing his melancholy in concrete imagery and solid, inviting melodies. He writes with the self-confidence of a man at peace with his gauzy gufts. He sings like a father talking to a child he respects or like a husband to a wife he adores. Beam has given us his second straight masterwork: self-assured, spellbinding and richly, refreshingly adult. Here's his third.

I can whine about it all but I won't.
    -Samuel E. Beam

The first Iron & Wine song that I ever remember hearing was Dead Man's Will, originally featured on the Yeti 1 compilation CD. Its hushed eloquence and unadorned beauty lent it a sort of soft power*,a triumph of instinct over overstatement. That was in 2001.

In 2017, Beast Epic, Iron & Wine's fourth album of new material for Sub Pop and it's sixth overall, recasts soft power as a series of vignettes, observations and regular old songs that redeem through joy and a certain expectation of grace.

Even the instant classic, Bitter Truth, with a lyric as pained and direct as any I've heard from Iron & Wine, is leavened with background vocals recalling The Jordanaires. Sam Beam has called Beast Epic his most personal album to date. It is the first Iron &Wine album that he's produced since The Creek Drank The Cradle, though the results are vastly different. This album brims with surprise flourishes, classic touches and an appealing confidence that is evident on songs like Call It Dreaming.

After a decade and a half of prodigious expression and exploration, recording as both Iron & Wine and eponymously, Sam Beam confessed that he has finally figured out how to make records. He had me fooled all along.

Beast Epic will be available worldwide through Sub Pop Records. It's my favorite Iron & Wine album by a mile.

    - Jonathan Poneman

Iron & Wine's Beast Epic was written and produced by Sam Beam, and recorded and engineered by Tom Schick at the Loft in Chicago in July 2016 and January 2017. The musicians who played on Beast Epic include longtime Iron & Wine collaborators Robert Burger (keys),Joe Adamik (percussion), and Jim Becker (guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin), along with bassist Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing and Fiona Apple), and Chicagoan Teddy Rankin Parker (cello). Beast Epic was mastered by Richard Dodd in Nashville, Tennessee.

    Handcrafted in the USA

We debuted to the world a killer frikkin' cool phono stage at CES 2001. It was called, aquatic naming theme continuing, The Steelhead®, as it is an upstream device and has a very clever MC variable load auto tranny that we designed and our very own Manley Magnetics department executed (which makes the MC stage so very clever). Iron=transformer=steel makes sense to me...

It has two Moving Coil inputs with selectable impedance load 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400 Ohms via Mr. Clever Steelhead transformer/autoformer. It also has variable and selectable Moving Magnet input impedances too 25, 50, 100, 200 Ohms and 47 kOhms. Very nifty is the selectable-dial-able-in-able-from-the-faceplate-able capacitive loading for all three of the MM & MC inputs 0 to 1100 picofarads in 10 picofarad steps. Very cool! Equalize baby! TEN picofard steps! Wow! Now you can really dial this in for perfect cartridge matching with ZERO penalty. None of this switching detracts from the sound quality or adds any extra anything to the signal path. Rest assured.

It's got six tubes. 2 x 6922 plus 4 x 7044 or 5687. It's got a big honkin' volume control. It can drive an amplifier directly if you want, if you don't do digital. Hey and if you happen to have three turntables set up, we give you 2 x MC and 1 x MM selectable inputs! It's got variable and fixed volume outputs. And All-tube really low Z tube buffered outputs. Like inherently 20 Ohms plus the little 47 Ohm OK drive those high capacitance audiophile cables why doncha resistor, so it's real output impedance is only 67 Ohms. No wanky cathode follower (oh bor-ing) output here like the other guys. We got your real low impedance all-tube outputs right here! It will drive anything and everything. Long cables, no problem.

It's got selectable gain 50, 55, 60, 65dB on a switch that even auto-mutes as you change it so no nasty bangs. Gain switch markings are referred to from the input of the 1st active electronics at 1 kHz to the fixed output @ 10k load, regardless of whether source is MM or XFMR stepped-up MC. It is not really practical to include MC step-up gain on the front panel markings due to the variable SOURCE impedances of the MC cartridges and the variable LOADING that the input XFMR will have on any given cartridge. All of this total MC gain variability should be confined to about 3 to 12 dB of range though. XFMR step-up gain plateaus as the load Z on a given MC cartridge is optimised...producing no VOLTAGE gain but in fact a bit more POWER gain... All this means you should set a load Z which sounds best with your particular MC cartridge and adjust gain to suit your system's operating level. Whatever you like. You will not blow anything up.

(Bottom line: there is plenty of gain... enough to do justice to your fave lo-output MC cartridges).

It's got a mute switch. It's got a just turn it down while I cue up so I don't throw my woofer cones across the room but I still want the same volume I was listening at before I flipped the side DIM switch. And what goes with DIM better than SUM which would be the MONO button... It has a killer hyper-regulated outboard power supply that plugs in on the huge-est connector you ever saw. And you can just hit the standby button to keep everybody off while you take a small holiday to Tahiti. A backlit MANLEY STEELHEAD illuminated badge reflects back to vinyl-days-of-yore while the millions of BLUE LEDs remind you that this is modern tube engineering design, baby!

The VARIABLE Outputs are controlled by the precision film dual NOBLE® volume control. They are SMOOTH action these days as the fashion went against the detented ones.

    This is a tweak-o-holic tube-lover's dream...

The series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment.

    Live At Rockpalast

When John Cale appeared onstage at Grugahalle Essen, Germany on October, 13th 1984, it was nearly 3 o'clock in the morning and the atmosphere in the hall was as tense and menacing as the conert that followed.

Starting with the self ironic Autobiography, this concert represents the rock musician John Cale, playing highlights from his last studio album Caribbean Sunset as well as all-time classics like Fear Is A Man's Best Friend, Paris 1919 and a breathtaking version of the Velvet Underground classic Waiting For The Man.

Supported by David Lichtenstein (drums), Andy Heermans (bass) and David Young (guitar), John Cale presented the songs in very rough, sparse, nearly minimalistic arrangements, always cutting the edge and strictly combing the point in every song. Up to this day, this performance remains one of the most spectacular concerts in the history of the Rockpalast series.

Pacific Rim is a 2013 American science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo del Toro, and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.

The film is set in the future, when Earth is at war with the Kaiju, colossal monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas each controlled by at least two pilots, whose minds are joined by a neural bridge. Focusing on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaiju. The movie was highly successful in many territories, earning more than $411 million.

The film's score was composed by Ramin Djawadi, with guest musicians Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) and Priscilla Ahn. Ramin Djawadi is best known for his scores for the movies Warcraft, Iron Man, Prison Break and for HBO's hit series Game of Thrones.

    Up The Dosage

    Includes Bonus Tracks

This is our Back In Black! The man who says this is called Blaine Cartwright, vocalist and guitarist of American rock band Nashville Pussy. Cartwright is referring to the latest Pussy album Up The Dosage, a recording consisting of 13 fast-paced, sharp songs (plus two bonus tracks) which impress with their homogeneity and stylistic complexity. The opener Everybodys Fault But Mine, with a wonderfully ironic title which reflects that sense of humour which is so typical of Nashville Pussy. Next comes Cartwrights personal fave Rub It To Death, a raw number. Also typical of Nashville Pussy is the title track which takes no prisoners from the first note, unfolding a thoroughly unrefined attitude through the driving bass.

Up The Dosage takes up seamlessly where the 2009 Pussy release From Hell To Texas left off and goes even further. Blaine Cartwright is rightly proud of and unmistakably happy about the new material: None of the previous Nashville Pussy albums has been as diverse and at the same time consistent. Everything sounds even bigger and better, yet raw and authentic through and through. The new album was produced by Nashville Pussy and sound engineer Brian Pulito at the Microsonic Studios in Lexington, Kentucky, a place where the band, despite their limited budget, found ideal conditions for a focused and inspired recording process.

We Are The Romans (Awaiting Repress)

The year was 1999. Prince told us to party like it is 1999. The world had us thinking there would be computer mayhem after the year 1999. The same year that George W. Bush told us that he would be a republican candidate for the upcoming election. It was the same year that the Euro was introduced as a major form of currency. Yet after all of events, three blunders and one economic uprising (give you a hint, the economic uprising did not have anything to do with George W. Bush), there was one record in 1999 that changed a genre of music as we know it or perhaps even created one. In 1999 in Tacoma, Washington the four members of Botch created an album that is considered one of the best within its genre entitled, We Are The Romans. A title that is a statement about the United States thought of immortality, but a realization that we are not. The album cover shows what appears to be New York City with a huge blot of black ink covering the city. Within the blot is a red target, signifying that the United States is indeed a target. The even more disturbing aspect of the art is the fact that when you first open the contents, there is a picture of destroyed buildings. That picture, perhaps, tells the story of what will happen in the near future to the United States or maybe Botch themselves. Now then, let us get to the album that Norma Jean tried to base an entire album off.

Botch had only produced two full-length albums during their brief career as a band. We Are The Romans was the second of the two and a major advancement from their earlier release, American Nervoso. While American Nervoso was an amazing record in its own regard, it was not produced well and not as groundbreaking, musically, as We Are The Romans. During this release they came up with catchy and yet menacing guitar riffs, thick distorted sludgy bass riffs, extremely technical drumming.

As an opener, "To Our Friends in the Great White North," kicks you directly, square in the nuts. With an initial shout, the guitar, bass, drums immediately follow. A consistent downward scale is played on the guitar that soon slyly transitions in a chug-to-high chord section. It then begins to break down as the pace begins to slow down. On and off head banger riffs follow at a slow dissipated pace that leads into a clean vocal section chanting

it's your fault (it's your fault)

***ing up the kids (***ing up the kids)

The chant is repeated for a few solitary moments and then it becomes tacit with just a high-hat keeping tempo that quickly turns until another heavy part with intense guitar work. The initial reactions after this song that it was simply mind blowing. The album maintains its ride of almighty power into the next song "Mondrian Was A Liar" with math metal elements incorporated. "Transitions from Persona to Object" continues the theme of memorable guitar riffs with a hook that is repeated and altered throughout the duration of the entire song. While the noises protruding may not be the most pleasant to the ear, they certainly add to the effect of destruction. While some may say that the repetitive nature of the song continues for far too long (clocking in at just over six minutes), the overall feeling was that it could not be abruptly stopped after any given point. It eventually comes to a halt when the drums are the only remaining instrument left. "C. Thomas Howell as the Soul Man"" provides a sloppy and gritty performance with classic tapping guitar riffs. Also contained is a three note distorted bass riff that evolves into a clean break within the song that builds up into chaos that then tapers off.

More than half way through the album, We Are The Romans needed a shot of pure adrenaline. In what is the climax of the album, "Saint Matthew Returns to the Womb" has an unspeakable feeling about it. The song practically defines metalcore (in an album that is the start of metalcore, as we know it, perhaps). A song that combines classic elements of brutal metal and what can be considered "fun" hardcore. It is a true staple strong in the short lifespan of Botch. Finally, in what maybe be considered the song that may have predicted Botch's downfall, "Man The Ramparts." Surely, one can look at the album in the eyes of America's downfall, but ironically, Botch may have fell first. Think about it this way, it was their last full length without conflicts of the direction the band was going. It is a song about preparing for what is ahead, because it will soon be a collapse, but not without a last stand.

    We'll man the ramparts

    With arrows ready

    With our flags up

    We are the Romans

The song can almost be related to a battle. It starts as it were trudging along to the beat of a war drum with off time guitar and bass. It then starts the battle with a brutal scream and fiery fierceness to it. As it continues, it slowly disassembles and then regains composure into the previous intensity. The song dies down, with every beat and it begins to fade into a choir hymn saying We are the Romans as almost collecting forces to join for one last hurrah. Eight minutes and thirty now elapse, the quintessential loudest section of the entire song ERUPTS. Precise drumming and abrasive chords carry on until the final hits of the instruments and the last screech and it everything stops.

It is over. The piercing screaming, the rhythmically brilliant drumming, the coarse sound of the bass, and the memorable guitar riffs are no longer. While "I Wanna Be A Sex Symbol On My Own Terms" is the only track that I feel was a grave disappointment, they produced an unbelievably solid record. We are the Romans was a completely original album in its own regard and left a legacy behind. They made the music that was out there more interesting and complex. Botch created a fusion that was perfected with this release. I am glad one thing will never change, no matter what year it is next; I can still listen to this album.

    Freaky Styley

Produced by George Clinton, 1985's Freaky Styley serves as hands down the funkiest outing from the Chili Peppers to date and it also marked the welcome return of original guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons. A huge step forward from the band's eponymous debut, more than a few Peppers classics reside here, including Jungle Man, Hollywood (a reworking of the Meters' Africa), Nevermind, Catholic School Girls Rule and The Brothers Cup.

We Are Volsung (Out of Stock)

They were the prime mover, they preached back seat education, together with Alice Cooper they fed Frankenstein....Now they are back, meaner, leaner and heavier than ever. Zodiac Mindwrap & The Love Reaction now enter a new decade of heavy, dirty street rock n roll and they declare We are Volsung. Inspired by Nordic mythology, the album features 10 brand new unadulterated songs including a track with the German title Stark von Oben (translation: strong from above).

1985: In a musical world of hairspray and spandex, two long haired leather clad rockers were introduced to each other by their exotic dancer girlfriends. One, a graphic artist and poet. The other, a budding philosopher. They immediately dropped everything, joined forces and created the dirtiest, wildest band of all time. One year later, they signed to Polygram, released, first the ground breaking High Priest of Love EP, and subsequently the Tattooed Beat Messiah album, containing the well received single Prime Mover. Over night, they accidentally changed the look of all the rock bands of the time from the obligatory spandex, eye liner and tinsel, to rough biker jackets, engineer boots and goatee beards.

Mötley CrÜe declared them to be their favorite band and immediately restyled themselves for the Girls, Girls, Girls record. ZMATLR grew in notoriety, touring the world and America, co-headlining arenas and theatres with Guns `N` Roses and finding themselves at home in the U.K. playing festivals and baseball stadiums with Iron Maiden. After attending a Hammersmith Odeon ZMATLR concert and giving it his seal of approval, Alice Cooper then recorded the Zodiac Mindwarp penned Feed My Frankenstein, later performed in the film Waynes World. The critical acclaim of ZMATLR then caused rare misfortune, when they lost their young naive bass player to the lures of The Cult. The band soldiered on regardless. Sometime later, in Paris, Slam Thunderhide, their drummer decided to put down his sticks to become a go-go dancer in Vancouver.

Present day: With The Cat shaking the Earth on Drums and Jack Shitt rumbling the low frequencies, they ride again, honing their skills playing for the Viking descendants in Scandinavia. From these tough, manly ordeals, a new set of recordings have been forged. We Are Volsung is the result, a celebration in the Norse tradition, 10 songs of pure, unadulterated rock.
