Is this the album that made country cool? Former Byrds Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman picked up where they left off with Sweetheart of the Rodeo with this stunning masterpiece of a debut album by The Flying Burrito Bros. While Parsons had already pushed rock in a country direction during his brief stint with The Byrds and The International Submarine Band, The Gilded Palace of Sin is why the Burritos are widely viewed as the inventors of country rock. Indeed with this album, Hillman and Parsons carved a substantial place in music history as one of the most influential albums and bands of all time.

The influence this album and band would have on rock and rap in the following decade can't be understated. It's impossible to listen to 80s and 90s classics like The Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique or Beck's Odelay without hearing echoes of the beats and samples from This Is Big Audio Dynamite all the way back in 1985.

The Gilded Palace of Sin was mastered 100% AAA analog by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the best source available- a phenomenal sounding 1/2'' safety copy of the original stereo master tapes. All of the top-end energy and ''snap'' of the original A&M LP is preserved, while the bass foundation is fully restored to make this new Intervention reissue the definitive listening experience for this classic LP!

    Live: Decade Of Aggression

A double live album, Decade of Aggression, was released in 1991, and aside from a brief tour the next year (including an appearance at the 1992 Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington), nothing new would be heard from Slayer until 1994's Divine Intervention.

100% Analog Mastering From Real Analog Tapes

Mastered by Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

Dead Quiet 180-Gram Vinyl Pressed At RTI

Deluxe Old Style Tip-On Jacket Printed By Stoughton

Synth-Pop Classic Featuring Smash Hits Oh L'Amour, Who Needs Love Like That, My Heart ... So Blue

What if Depeche Mode just wanted to dance? Wonderland is the classic 1986 debut of Erasure, formed by songwriter/synth player Vince Clarke and singer Andy Bell. Produced by Flood, Wonderland is accessible and catchy synth pop, but also sharp, emotionally charged and redolent of heartache. Erasure delivered massive hits in the UK and the US with radio and club staples like "Oh L'Amour" and "Who Needs Love Like That." Vince Clarke was a groundbreaking synth-pop pioneer before Wonderland. Prior to forming Erasure, Clarke wrote nearly all of the songs on Depeche Mode's iconic first album, Speak and Spell, before moving on to form Yazoo with Alison Moyet (Yaz in the US). Remarkably Clarke found Andy Bell by placing a newspaper ad. The flamboyant Bell was among pop's first openly gay stars, and his high-pitched voice has a soulful power that's an arresting complement to Clarke's inspired melodies.

Wonderland is sourced from a beautifully preserved 30-ips tapes that say both Master and production copy. You be the judge! What is certain is that these are the best and perhaps the only existing analog tapes for this classic release! When mastering this LP we compared what we were hearing from the tapes to the original US and UK LPs. Mastering notes included with the tapes show that the original LP was bass-limited from 40Hz down. Of course, we restored the wonderfully full bass response that's present on the tapes and mastered wide open with no compression applied. The result is an alive and pulsing beat with foundation like you've never heard- the best Wonderland has ever sounded!

Expanded Edition Double Album Joins Field Day and US Remix 12 45 RPM EP For the First Time

100% Analog Mastering from the ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES by Kevin Gray @ Cohearent Audio

Ultra-Quiet 180-Gram Vinyl Pressed At RTI

Beautiful Old-Style Gatefold Printed by Stoughton

Intervention Records and Marshall Crenshaw are thrilled to announce the relaunch of Marshall's amazing sophomore effort FIELD DAY on premium 180-gram vinyl as an EXPANDED EDITION double album set! The Field Day relaunch features ALL-NEW cover art conceived by Crenshaw, and the expanded edition for the first time combines Field Day's original repertoire with a second album comprised of the US Remix EP. Available in the US for the very first time this 12 45 rpm EP features remixes of several of Field Day's best tunes, including Our Town, For Her Love and a rip-roarin' live cover of Little Sister.

Produced by Steve Lilywhite, Field Day is Crenshaw at his power-pop best, with addictive hooks, heart-tugging lyrics, and beautiful melodies.

Field Day and the US Remix EP are mastered 100% Analog by CoHEARent Audio's Kevin Gray directly from the original analog master tapes! Both 12 records are pressed on dead-quiet 180-Gram vinyl at RTI.

At Marshall Crenshaw's direction, Field Day's front cover art is taken not from the original LP, but from the 7 single for the Field Day's hit Whenever You're On My Mind. Never comfortable with the original cover art, Crenshaw is delighted at this change in art direction, implemented by IR's extraordinary artist Tom Vadakan. The original inner sleeve art and lyrics are expanded into a gorgeous Old-Style gatefold printed by Stoughton on heavy stock and film laminated.

    This Is Big Audio Dynamite

100% Analog AAA Mastered By Ryan K. Smith At Sterling Sound

    Pressed At RTI

Comes In An Old-Style Single Pocket Gatefold Printed by Stoughton

In 1985 Joe Strummer failed at stripping The Clash down and taking it back in time with Cut the Crap while former band mate Mick Jones leaped forward with the visionary, genre-crossing Big Audio Dynamite. BAD's debut This is Big Audio Dynamite is a multi-layered and sample-driven whirlwind of musical influences, including house and hip-hop, rap and reggae, electro-pop and more, with movie dialog and sound effects thrown in just for fun!

While the music has to be called out as experimental for its day, Jones' gift for rhythm, melody and catchy hooks makes it an eminently listenable and utterly cool affair that on each listen will have you humming and singing to yourself for days.

Summer In The City: Live In New York (Pre-Order)

    First Time Ever On Vinyl!

Remastered From New High-Res Master Files By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

Double LP Set, Ultra-Quiet 180-Gram Vinyl Pressed At RTI

Beautiful ''Old-Style'' Gatefold Printed By Stoughton

Intervention Records is thrilled to bring Joe Jackson's Summer in the City Live in New York to vinyl for the very first time! Previously available only on CD, Summer in the City joins IR's wildly successful vinyl reissues of Jackson's early New Wave classics Look Sharp!, I'm the Man and Night and Day.

Summer in the City's repertoire is an amazing bridge that spans the greatest hits of Jackson's early canon with stunning new arrangements and covers from other great songwriters. Jackson classics like ''Fools in Love,'' ''You Can't Get What You Want'' and ''It's Different for Girls'' meet with covers as diverse as Duke Ellington's ''Mood Indigo,'' The Beatles' ''Eleanor Rigby'' and Steely Dan's ''King of the World.''

Summer in the City was mastered to vinyl by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from brand-new high-res master files. Summer in the City was recorded live in New York City in August of 1999 by Steve Remote and Co-Producer Sheldon Steiger. Sony's archivists and Battery Studios' Mike Piacentini compiled new high-res digital master files from the original DATs with the final mixes, and IR consulted with Remote and Steiger on key aspects of the recording to ensure the best possible source files were used. The result is an absolute sonic stunner, brought to new life on this double LP set!

Summer in the City's original album art has been rebuilt into a beautiful gatefold jacket by IR's art director Tom Vadakan.

    Most Messed Up

Most Messed Up is a revealing, 12-track meditation on 20 years in music that finds the Old 97's at their raucous, boozy best. It's "a rock opera, a way-off Broadway musical about a musician's life, loves and lubrication," says music critic Bill Flanagan. Recorded in Austin and produced by Salim Nourallah, Most Messed Up also features guest appearances by Tommy Stinson (The Replacements, Guns N' Roses) and Jon Rauhouse (Neko Case) on lap-steel.

Titles like "Wasted," "Intervention," "Wheels Off," "Let's Get Drunk & Get It On," and "Most Messed Up" hint at the kind of narrators frontman Rhett Miller likes to inhabit - men who possess an appetite for indulgence and won't let a few bad decisions get in the way of a good story. The magic in Miller's songwriting lies in the depth that he lends his characters. Upon closer inspection, the hard partying and endless pursuit of a good time often reveals itself to be a Band-Aid covering up deeper wounds and emotional scars. "There's a lot of darkness hidden in this record," Miller explains.

Includes Stuck in the Middle (With You)

One Of Two Releases From Intervention Records' (Re)Discover Series

100% Analog Mastering by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio

Stealers Wheel's self-titled debut is sourced from the best source that is currently available, a beautifully preserved ½" 30ips "safety copy" of the original stereo master. When mastering this LP we compared what we were getting off the tape to the exceptional original A&M UK "Porky/Pecko" cut on LP. In our mastering we decided to preserve the full (and we do mean full!) bass expression that is on the tape, and that no additional push was needed in the midrange and treble to emphasize detail. The result is a remarkably lively recording with driving bass, wonderfully expressive guitars and living, breathing vocal harmonies from Rafferty and Egan like you've never heard them before!

You know those songs that come up on the radio when you're driving and you crank up the volume to 11 and sing your lungs out? That's what Intervention's (Re)Discover Series is all about: taking these FM classics and presenting them in "like you've never heard it before" sound quality so you can get that same blast of energy and excitement on your hi-fi at home. The hallmark of this series will be 100% analog mastering from real analog tapes. Combining superior master sources with the truly full-range mastering chain at Cohearent and RTI's dead quiet vinyl pressing means that you'll hear these FM staples with power, majesty and musical detail like it's the first time. So Much for the Afterglow is the rare follow-up that bested the original in both critical acclaim and sales, going double platinum, yielding three top-five hits and landing the band a Billboard Modern Rock Artist of the Year award in 1998. Everclear remains one of the few elite acts to emerge from the post-Nirvana grunge explosion, rockers that could not only match the crunch and aggression of Seattle's finest, but the hooks and emotional honesty. Everclear's Art Alexakis wrote songs that were a mature but hard rocking brand of power pop with gritty, achingly true lyrics about addiction, failed relationships and loneliness.

A driving passion at IR is bringing music from the dark days of the CD era to glorious new light and life on premium vinyl. So much fantastic music from this era either never saw a vinyl release at all, or saw only a very limited and all too often low-quality release ripped from CDs without much care. During that era even if the original capture was to analog tape it was often ripped to digital and loaded into workstations for choosing final mixes, sequencing and final assembly. If vinyl was released during this era it is more than likely sourced from CD files. For releases that were never assembled in analog or were fully-digital recordings IR acquires and masters from high-resolution 20-24-bit files and if needed assembles final mixes, cross-fades, etc. during mastering. The increase in musicality and purity is as exponential as the increase in bit depth! Combining superior master sources with the truly full-range mastering chain at Cohearent and RTI's dead quiet vinyl pressing results in hearing the music that was the soundtrack to our lives like never before!

Includes New-Wave Classics: It's Different for Girls, On Your Radio and Kinda Kute

100% Analog Mastering From Real Analog Tapes!

Deluxe Old Style Single-Pocket Gatefold Printed By Stoughton

Great tunes, edgy vocal performances, and cutting lyrics. -Ultimate Classic Rock

Astonishingly released within months of Jackson's 1979 debut album Look Sharp!, I'm the Man is another tight and inspired set of power-pop that features some of Jackson's best and most timeless tunes. Many of the songs here like "On Your Radio," "Kinda Kute," and the title track "I'm the Man" fall right in line with the punchy guitar riffs and pounding bass that made Look Sharp! such a driving force. In fact, this was the last album Jackson would make in this new-wave vein for over 20 years. Jackson followed I'm the Man with only one more album featuring the tight ensemble featured here- Graham Maby (bass), Gary Sanford (guitar) and Tony Houghton (drums)- and creatively restless soul that he is didn't return to this brand of power pop until reuniting that lineup for 2003's underrated Volume 4.

I doubt it was possible to listen to I'm the Man in 1979, and predict the subsequent ska-inspired Beat Crazy or 1982's ode to jazz, Night and Day. But we do hear the songwriter growing into his powers with "It's Different for Girls," one of his strongest and most lyrically perceptive songs, and one with decades of staying power; one of Jackson's great live set pieces today is a solo piano arrangement of that song that's as arresting as the original in some ways. Jackson would famously broaden his influences in later albums and his catalog is nothing if not diverse. While Jackson's greatest commercial success was Night and Day, Look Sharp! and I'm the Man are new-wave classics that improve with every listen!

I'm the Man is sourced from the best analog tape currently available, a beautifully preserved ½" "safety copy" of the original stereo master. When mastering this LP we compared what we were getting off the tape to an original A&M UK LP. While great sounding overall, the original LP is of course a very edgy sounding New Wave, post-punk record with a brashness that borders on being outright bright sounding. Where the aggressive top -end energy is concerned, the tapes showed no discenible age! We were able to maintain that grungy edge, but also restore the driving bass lines and bottom-end foundation that were on these tapes. The result is the best-sounding I'm the Man anyone's ever heard, with all the drive and pop of the original UK release, but with superb tonal balance, imaging and clarity. The definitive issue of this iconic New Wave classic!

Dead Quiet 180-Gram Vinyl Pressed At RTI

Exquisitely Restored Cover Art Printed By Stoughton

Intervention Records is thrilled to announce the addition of the smash hit Night and Day to its series of 100% analog vinyl reissues of Joe Jackson's early catalog. Night and Day joins IR's AAA reissues of Jackson's 1979 New Wave classics Look Sharp! and I'm the Man.

Jazzy and sophisticated, Night and Day was Jackson's breakout hit with the MTV staple Steppin' Out and the achingly pretty Breaking Us in Two providing the sharpest highlights. This is a brash, stylish and kinetic big city record!

All three titles were mastered 100% analog by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from phenomenal sounding 1/2 safety copies of the original stereo master tapes. All of the top-end energy and "snap" of the original LPs is preserved, while the bass foundation is fully restored to make these new Intervention reissues the definitive listening experience for these classic LPs!

By working with artist Tom Vadakan and the artisans at Stoughton Printing IR insures that the album art is as stunning as the superlative sonics. Night and Day's original-release gatefold has been faithfully and beautifully restored, and Look Sharp! and I'm the Man are substantially upgraded. Look Sharp! features a debossed cover on heavy stock that not only imitates the rough texture found on only the earliest UK pressings, but improves on those rare originals. I'm the Man's original inner sleeve lyrics and images have been expanded to the interior of a gorgeous single-pocket gatefold.

One Of Two Releases From Intervention Records' (Re)Discover Series

100% Analog Mastering by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio

The short but legendary recording career of Stealers Wheel is defined by the pinnacle reached with its first two albums. While Ferguslie Park wouldn't have a mega-hit smash single like Stuck in the Middle (#6, US), this sophomore LP is a more polished effort overall from song to song, beginning to end. By the time Ferguslie Park was recorded, the band was distilled down to the songwriting duo of Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan working with a backing band of session players. It would hardly matter as Rafferty and Egan were clearly the creative essence of Stealers Wheel. Knowing the band's history of battling themselves, their producers and their record label it's easy to see where they were coming from with songs like Good Businessman, Nothing's Gonna Change My Mind, Who Cares and (Everyone's Agreed That) Everything Will Turn Out Fine.

Okay, I know that Joe Jackson isn't exactly an unknown, but how many of you revere (or even own) this, his first album. And what an album it is! As well as the timeless Is She Really Going Out With Him? you get One More Time, Sunday Papers, Happy Loving Couples, Baby Stick Around and Fools In Love, most of them on a first side that hits it out of the park. Indeed, if it wasn't for Fools (possibly the best song here) many a record out there would be mint condition on side two. Happy coincidence meant that Jackson's poignant and acerbic observations on life and love, along with his impressive musical training and heritage collided headlong with the UK New Wave, opening wide the opportunities for his bitter-sweet songs.

His material and delivery draw inevitable comparisons with Elvis Costello, but for me, Jackson is a cut above our Declan. Of course, that might be home-town familiarity speaking and Joe and the boys were an ever-present part of the live music wall-paper while I was at college, but then The Cure, The Banshees and The Attractions were too, if on a more revolving basis, so he had plenty of competition for my attention and affections. But what makes this album stick is the sheer quality of the lyrics. Even an out and out rocker like One More Time has an observant intelligence and almost painful honesty, while Fools and Is She have stood the test of time, shored up by the barbed familiarity of their outsider's stance and subtly twisted viewpoint. These are songs that speak not just for their generation but all the generations that have followed.

The vocal is all angst and attitude, with driven riffs, bass that goes deep and drums that stay hit. What's not to like about a record that captures the life and energy of a classic four-piece rock band in full, uninhibited, unabashed overdrive. Me - I love it! -Roy Gregory,

Look Sharp! is sourced from the best tape currently available, a beautifully preserved ½" "safety copy" of the original stereo master. The result is the best-sounding Look Sharp! anyone's ever heard, with all the drive and pop of the original UK release, but with superb tonal balance, imaging and clarity. The definitive issue of this iconic New Wave classic!

    Divine Intervention

The rock & roll landscape changed dramatically between Seasons in the Abyss in 1990 and Divine Intervention in 1994. With the rise of alternative rock, many metal and hard rock bands that had been enormously successful at the dawn of the '90s were struggling by the middle of the decade. Instead of doing something calculated like emulating Nirvana or Pearl Jam -- or for that matter, Nine Inch Nails or Ministry -- Slayer wisely refused to sound like anyone but Slayer. Tom Araya and co. responded to the new environment simply by striving to be the heaviest metal band they possibly could. Less accessible than Seasons but equally riveting, Divine Intervention marked drummer Paul Bostaph's studio debut with the band. Bostaph proved to be a positive, energizing influence on Slayer, which sounds better than ever on such dark triumphs as Killing Fields, Serenity in Murder, and Circle of Beliefs. Characteristically grim and morbid, Slayer focus on the violently repressive nature of governments and the lengths to which they will go to wield power. And true to form, Slayer's music is as disturbing as their lyrics.

    Sparkle And Fade

Remastered From High-Res Archives For the First Time!

One Of Two Releases From Intervention Records' Lost '90s Series

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

Everclear remains one of the few elite acts to emerge from the post-Nirvana grunge explosion, rockers that could not only match the crunch and aggression of Seattle's finest, but the hooks and emotional honesty. Everclear's Art Alexakis wrote songs that were a mature but hard rocking brand of power pop with gritty, achingly true lyrics about addiction, failed relationships and loneliness. Sparkle and Fade was Everclear's second release, and it broke HUGE, a platinum-selling smash with hit tunes like Santa Monica, Heroin Girl and Heartspark Dollar Sign.

    Rapturous and otherworldly. -Rolling Stone

... it's hard to suppress the inner light of Sill's work. It shines. -Pitchfork

The astonishing Judee Sill was the first artist signed to David Geffen's Asylum Records, and Judee Sill the first album released on the label. Sill's music is intensely spiritual, redolent of both mysticism and divine imagery, yet grounded by great songwriting and a pure but powerful singing talent. Her songs impart incredible intimacy that is enhanced and not diminished by her sometimes complex string/orchestral arrangements (remarkably Sill arranged and conducted the strings/orchestra on her albums!).

Sill's life was tragic personally and professionally. Her father and brother were killed when Sill was young, and her tempestuous relationship with her alcoholic (and remarried) mother resulted in her leaving home at 15. She committed robberies and began a battle she was destined to lose against drug addiction. When stardom didn't follow the critical acclaim of these two albums her career never recovered. Sill was dead in 1979 at just 35. The brevity of Judee's musical legacy is vastly outweighed by the emotional power in these two extraordinary albums.

Judee Sill and Heart Food were AAA mastered directly from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.

And then I heard The Kiss from 1973's Heart Food. If ever there was a song that lived up to the glorious, simultaneous heartbreaking and mending I might expect from a symphony to God, it's this. -Pitchfork

45th Anniversary Edition Of Murray Head's Groundbreaking 1972 Classic

180-Gram Double 45s Pressed At RTI

Old Style ''Tip On'' Gatefold Jacket + 8-Page Book Printed By Stoughton On Heavy Stock

100% Analog Mastering From The Original Master Tapes

Mastered by Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

Murray Head's Nigel Lived is a groundbreaking classic and one of the boldest, most daring and inventive albums of all time. Recorded by the great recording engineer Phill Brown, Nigel Lived is from the golden era of all-analog recording, a sonic and musical masterpiece that every music lover and audiophile simply must have.

In Spring of 1972 Murray Head was just 25, coming off amazing success on the stage and screen, when he recorded his debut album, Nigel Lived. And Nigel isn't just any album, it's an ambitious, experimental album full of great songs that required stunningly diverse recording techniques and instrumentation on every track. There are beautiful acoustic works that draw a straight line to Murray's later albums like ''Ruthie'' and ''When You Wake Up In The Morning,'' there are straight-up rockers and amazingly innovative tracks like ''Religion'' and the sprawling ''Junk.''

Nigel's story arc unfolds as a three-act play in which Nigel leaves a small town for the big city, finds love and success before crashing into addiction and despair. The background locations, characters and scenes change sonically throughout as Nigel was a adventurous & pioneering effort in blending studio recording with an incredible array of location recordings captured all over London's West End.

In the same way that films today operate on the ''found footage'' motif, Murray's ahead-of-its-time conceptual treatment for Nigel consisted of hand writing a ''diary'' for Nigel that was then ''found'' by Murray, who put Nigel's life to song. It's a brilliant narrative tool that allowed Murray to weave aspects of his own rich experiences in the whirlwind of late 60s London into the songs. Murray saw great success, making a splash on stage in Hair and on-screen in films like The Family Way and John Schlesinger's avant-garde Sunday Bloody Sunday. And he saw the depths working in a drug-addiction clinic and watching friends disappear into and eventually succumb to heroin.

Nigel Lived is driven by Murray's tremendous energy, and the songs are witty, intense, achingly beautiful and exceptionally well-recorded

    Lost Songs

Lost Songs is the eighth studio album by Austin, Texas art rock outfit ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.

Recorded at Horus Sound Studios in Hanover, Germany, the album's lyrics are themed around war, tyranny and apathy. Frontman Conrad Keely said, the music was inspired by the apathy to real world events that has plagued the independent music scene now for over a decade. Up to Infinity is about the Syrian civil war. We believe that tyranny and despotism suffered by any people, anywhere, is intolerable and should not be treated as an internal matter, but completely justifies intervention by the international community.

On The The Absolute Sound List Of Must-hear Audiophile Recordings

This double LP set has resided on The Absolute Sound's 'Super Disc' list since dinosaurs ruled. It has an incredible variety of music and instruments from a 200-year period. There are no voices. The sound is very clean, transparent, complex and extended in the highs. The harmonic richness and decay within the hall is outstanding. The soundstage is very deep, but it is not unusually wide.

The disc is simply ravishing. It's a classic analogue recording from 1980, lovingly produced, engineered and edited by Robert von Bahr using a Revox A77 and two - presumably spaced - simple Sennheiser MKH105 omni condenser mikes (vintage early '60's design); it amply shows the merits of a simple signal path, combined with minimal intervention and post-processing.

The recording immediately astonishes with its fluid, natural and utterly truthful sound, And the acoustic of the Chapel of the Imperial College, Madrid is just beautiful. The music, all 80 minutes of it, features variations on three archetypal Spanish themes (La Spagna, a Spagnoletta and Pavane), as interpreted by different composers such as Praetorius, Farnaby, Negri, Josquin Desprez, Ortiz and others. Aided by impeccable playing and 'realisation' of the basic themes, the end result is lively, fun and eclectic.

This is the very first audiophile version of this disc.

    Sam Baker's Album

Coming out with one of the most anticipated and long-awaited albums so far on Brainfeeder is Samiyam aka Sam Baker. Sam Baker's Album is 40 minutes of pure listening pleasure, a series of woozy, off-center hip hop instrumentals drawing heavily on Baker's love of electronic funk but never in hock to it. Intensely detailed and carrying considerable emotional weight, this is not Rap Beats Volume 2 but an album of fully-realized pieces of music which stand on their own without the need for an MC's intervention.

    Damogen Furies

Through this record I aim to explore as forcefully as possible the hallucinatory, the nightmarish and the brutally visceral capacities of electronic music." - Squarepusher. Squarepusher's legacy is unassailable. From his early releases on Rephlex and his residency at the Blue Note, through his aggressive interpretations of ensemble jazz, the peerless Music Is Rotted One Note, his musique concrete experiments, and the boundary-warping drum 'n' bass with which he is synonymous, Squarepusher has tilted ever forwards. Damogen Furies, his first full-length since 2012's Ufabulum, sees Squarepusher's powers in full flow. All of the recordings here were made in one take, with no edits. Damogen Furies is a record that has the brutal energy and vivaciousness of a debut. It sees the peak and confluence of the preoccupations that have emerged throughout Squarepusher's career, approached with the antagonism and audacity of an artist who still believes in the power of Format: CD the intervention.

    Time Is Up (Awaiting Repress)

Limited Edition, Hand Numbered Vinyl Pressing of the Band's Popular 2011 Album

The unexpected rebirth of vintage American thrash midway through the 2000s was a pleasant if short-lived surprise, once veteran fans and newbies alike realized there was precious little left to do with the hallowed old genre that hadn't already been done before, and better. Every last '80s thrash band of note and their snotty little brother reunited and released comeback albums of varying quality (heck, even Metallica finally broke down and returned to their roots, though for entirely different reasons), but only a handful of young 'uns released albums worth remembering, once the worshipful good vibes subsided, including California's Warbringer, Brazil's Violator, Virginia's Municipal Waste, and, now, Colorado's Havok. Already impressive on their 2009 debut effort, Burn, the Denver quartet really puts it all together on the 2011 sophomore Time Is Up, marrying the necessary old-school thrash hallmarks with enough fresh ideas and memorable hooks to keep boredom at bay on neck-snapping riff machines like Fatal Intervention, Scumbag in Disguise, and Out of My Way. It's also worth noting that slower tempos and heightened melodicism are not out of the question for the band, either, even if the experiments don't always work as well on some cuts (see the spotty Killing Tendencies) as others (the excellent D.O.A.). Ultimately, it would still be quite a stretch (OK, it would be an outright lie) to praise Havok for introducing any innovations with Time Is Up (but then that's not their goal), and one can never help but wonder whether the band's tight-as-f**k musicianship would have been possible before the advent of Pro-Tools, but this is still about as good as it gets for modern, moshing entertainment.
