    In Rainbows

On the deliriously satisfying In Rainbows, Radiohead returns to a more straight-ahead (though subdued) rock sound. Much hubbub has been made about this record's innovative release. Radiohead allowed fans to pay what they wished to download fairly low-resolution tracks from the band's own website. Like so many innovations, it already seems funny both that it was such big news and that someone else of similar stature hadn't done it sooner. Some pundits were appalled that it took awhile to download the tracks if you tried to do it at the same time as thousands of other people, while others decried that the group was trying to kill the music industry (or save it).

Little of the press seemed to focus on the record itself, which actually made sense because it was so entertaining and inviting, the most low-key album Radiohead has made to date. There's even a very straight-forward, simple, silly little love song, House of Cards. It might be a bit lethargic, but the simple instrumentation of electric guitars, bass, and drums is lovely as heck. A handful of these tunes enchanted fans for years before finally being committed to computer tape. This is particularly fitting as In Rainbows is the group's most band-sounding album since OK Computer. This is not a record that hits you over the head with how far this group is pushing the envelope; it's simply a phenomenal, well-crafted, and exciting album. As soon as it's done, you're playing it again. --Mike McGonigal

    Gutter Rainbows

As a boy growing up in Brooklyn, Talib Kweli saw gutters that ran with dirt, oil and water, revealing a shimmering rainbow to his childs eyes. Drawing its title from this memory, this album puts at the raw center what his music has been doing for years: finding and preserving the beautiful in the hideous; the rainbows in the gutter. Weaving the lyrical and the gritty, the autobiographical with an honest, no-holdsbarred hip-hop spirit; Kweli sticks fiercely to what feels true to him in creating the sound of this album.

Without being tied to any particular labels conception of what his sound should be or when his work should hit his fans, Kweli is free to build his most personal album yet in both content and motivation. Kwelis true solo career has only just begun, and although the future holds more collaboration, Gutter Rainbows marks a new stage in the long and ever-evolving career of Talib Kweli. This release, recorded on his time and with his talent as the driving force, proves Kweli is a complete and formidable musician, it presents the depth and breadth of his experience and ability.

    Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow

Group's 1975 Debut Includes Signature Man on a Silver Mountain and Heralds Beginning of Powerful Combination of Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio

Wax Cathedral Reissue Comes Replete With Faithful Replication of Original Gatefold Sleeve; Pressed at RTI, America's Best Record Plant

In 1974, Ritchie Blackmore's bandmates in Deep Purple refused his request to cut a cover of Quatermass' Black Sheep of the Family. Demonstrating impressive commitment to the song, Blackmore set out to record it with the help of then-emerging vocalist Ronnie James Dio and members of his band Elf. To have enough material to release this as a single, Blackmore and Dio collaborated on Sixteenth Century Greensleeves. Pleased with the results, the two fleshed out a full album and Blackmore formally parted ways with Deep Purple. Blackmore and Dio named their new band after the location where they initially discussed their collaboration: the legendary Rainbow Bar and Grill on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip. Rainbow was born.

Drawing on medieval classical progressions for inspiration, Blackmore paired textured playing paired with Dio's fantastical lyrical imagery and inimitable vocals. The combination set Rainbow apart from its hard rock contemporaries. Featuring what would prove to be Rainbow's signature tune, Man on the Silver Mountain, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is a dynamic voyage. Blackmore's somber, melodic playing weaves a mystical tapestry over which Dio's tales of drawbridges, crossbows, and kings settle like a knight on his steed. This influential classic concludes with a flourish, as a cover of the Yardbirds' Gregorian chant-influenced instrumental Still I'm Sad proves a perfect pulpit for Blackmore's rhapsody-like soloing.

Complete with a faithful replication of the original gatefold sleeve and featuring dead-quiet surfaces, this Wax Cathedral reissue is pressed at RTI, America's best record plant. Even better, it's on colored vinyl.

    Rainbow Bridge (Soundtrack)

Remastered By Bernie Grundman From The Original Analog Masters

Rainbow Bridge is being reissued on vinyl, reintroduced with original album art and track orders and remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog masters.

Rainbow Bridge was compiled and mixed by Eddie Kramer and Mitch Mitchell in 1971, with the help of Electric Lady Studios engineer John Jansen. Most of the tracks were recorded in 1969 and 1970, during the same sessions that spawned The Cry Of Love. Rainbow Bridge is often misconstrued as being an entirely live album, being that the film of the same name features excerpts of a live Jimi Hendrix performance in Maui. However, Hendrix had no role in the creation of the rambling, unfocused 1971 film which was directed by Chuck Wein. The film was not a Hendrix project in any way but instead an independent vision of his manager Michael Jeffery. After Hendrix's death in September 1970, Jeffery scrapped Hendrix's original vision of a double studio album titled First Rays Of The New Rising Sun and called for Kramer, Mitchell and Jansen to compile two posthumous albums-including one that would that would serve as a soundtrack for the Rainbow Bridge film.

Mitchell, Kramer and Jansen drew upon Hendrix's rich trove of studio recordings that the guitarist had been developing at Electric Lady Studios. Songs such as ''Dolly Dagger'' and ''Room Full Of Mirrors'' were bright examples of Hendrix's new creative direction. Other standouts on the album included a studio rendition of ''Star Spangled Banner'' as well as the majestic ''Hey Baby (New Rising Sun).'' The one live track on the album, an extraordinary rendition of Hendrix's original blues composition ''Hear My Train A Comin''' is taken from a performance at Berkeley Community Theatre in May of 1970, and not in the film at all. Buddy Miles and Noel Redding both appear on one track each, and the Ronettes provide backing vocals on ''Earth Blues.''

After Hendrix's death in September 1970, First Rays Of The New Rising Sun was scrapped and instead two posthumous albums were created from the sessions, including one that would serve as a soundtrack for the Rainbow Bridge film.

    Follow The Rainbow (Speakers Corner)

The fusion movement has a lot in common with a tropical storm: it rages fiercely in its early phases but becomes less wild later on, yet still blows a gale. In the eye of the storm that tore its path through the various musical styles and genres as from 1960 is George Duke, who entered into creative and stormy partnerships with such artists as Frank Zappa, Miles Davis and Jean-Luc Ponty. The rainbow colours with which Duke chose to tint this album are taken less from the paintpots of fusion jazz and rock, and rather more from the black, natural colours of rhythm and blues. Next to a relaxed love groove (Say That You Will) we find a polyphonic vocal number with solos (Sunrise), which conjures up the nostalgic atmosphere of Motown, now on the decline. Then there is snappy funk in all manner of variations, such as Party Down, which swings trendily along but then comes over unfiltered and dry as a bone.
In Follow The Rainbow, genial musicianship, expert arrangements and a special feeling for resonance amalgamate to create a tightly-knit sound which is ever fresh and easy-going.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    The Babe Rainbow (Aus) (Pre-Order)

Australia's The Babe Rainbow are happy to announce they have signed to 30th Century Records, the label spearheaded by Danger Mouse. The band are set to release their debut self-titled album.

Recorded in magicland Byron Bay where the band is based, and produced by Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Babe Rainbow's first LP is a think piece, stories from the dreamtime, all the colors of the rainbow. As with the album's teaser track Losing Something (Is Finding Something Else) and Peace Blossom Boogy, expect timeless swirling sound and endless good vibes, cool cat vibes, and similar whirly-birding up and on.

The seeds of The Babe Rainbow were sown when Jack Cool-Breeze and Angus Darling The Hothouse Flower started a song writing partnership in middle school, but the band didn't fully-bloom until late in 2015 when, travelling through France, the duo met Venezuelan pianist Lu-Lu-Felix Domingo and became a trio. The band has previously released a self-titled EP featuring the single Secret Enchanted Broccoli Forest.

    I Can Spin A Rainbow

I CAN SPIN A RAINBOW is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Amanda Palmer, an avowed fan of Edward Ka-Spel and the Legendary Pink Dots since discovering their psycho-theatrical, multi-textural work in her teens. As noted in her best-selling 2014 memoir, The Art of Asking, the LPD have long been an inspiration to Palmer, their deeply connected relationship with fans as important to her life and work as their fearless autonomy and impossible-to-pigeonhole musical approach.

The two musicians first met in 1992 when Palmer, then 16, attended a Legendary Pink Dots show in her hometown of Boston. In 1995, having found that the Pink Dots were looking for lodging with fans to save money on the road, Palmer hosted five members of the band and crew at her childhood home. Ten years later, Palmer's internationally acclaimed punk cabaret duo, The Dresden Dolls, had achieved enough success that they were able to invite the Dots to support them on a German tour, and it was then that Palmer and Ka-Spel vowed to carve out time to collaborate on an original recording. A decade passed and in July 2015 a very pregnant Palmer flew to London to start the long-discussed project but was informed on the first day of recording that her dear friend Anthony was losing his battle with cancer and had been given less than a week to live. Heartbroken, she assured Ka-Spel she would be back within the year. Indeed Palmer made good on her promise, returning in the spring of 2016 with her eight-month-old son, Anthony, in tow.

Palmer and Ka-Spel's search for a London recording studio was interrupted by an incredibly generous offer from Palmer's friend Imogen Heap, who suggested they make use of her Essex home recording studio, The Hideaway, conveniently located near Ka-Spel's own home in Hornchurch. With Palmer traveling between London, Hornchurch, and Heap's home studio, the pair spent just under a month composing and cutting an album entirely from scratch.

Recorded largely on Ka-Spel's computer, I CAN SPIN A RAINBOW is a truly collaborative effort, "a spiritual experience," says Palmer, in which both artists' stories, song fragments, poems, and lyrics became wholly meshed with loops, melancholy piano playing, melodic beds, and strange rhythms. The results range from the enchantingly minimal "The Clock at the Back of the Cage" and the album-opening "Pulp Fiction," mysterious and strange with a luxurious theatricality that conjures both of its creators' prior oeuvres while also opening a curtain into a heretofore unheard shared sonic world. Sensing the need for strings, the pair enlisted frequent LPD collaborator Patrick Q Wright, who contributed violin tracks from his studio in Italy. Alexis Michallek, Heap's longtime studio assistant, contributes singing saw to "Beyond The Beach."

"We merged our songwriting heads and poetic worlds to make a new universe," Palmer says. "We would sit in Imogen's house drinking cups of tea, bemoaning the state of the upcoming election, binge drinking in the UK, the refugee crisis, our internet addictions, frightening news we had read, our relationships and then we'd compost all of the ingredients of our fears and conversations into song form. The Rainbow metaphor - which is also a nod to the 'spinning beach ball of death' on a Mac - was a wide-open image that kept popping up as a recurring theme on the record. It's both dark and light at the same time. To me, the songs are simultaneously frightening and comforting, like a thunderstorm heard from a living room."

"Making this record with Amanda felt a little like discovering a twin you didn't know you had," says Ka-Spel, "until a mysterious email lands in your inbox at a particularly auspicious moment. Some things are just meant to be "

    Kaleidoscope of Rainbow (Pure Pleasure)

This album became infamous for it's supremely original music, but also for it's impeccable engineering by Martin Levan. On the original single LP the sound quality had to be compromised to enable the inclusion of 27 minutes of music per side. Much of the bass and stereo effect was removed.

Now as a double LP and mastering from the original master analogue tapes all of the 'missing' bass and stereo effect is here for all to savour and enjoy.
At the time of it's original release in September 1976 it received critical acclaim across the full spectrum of the days music aficionados.

Listening to it today there is no reason to doubt it's continuing worth as an outstanding work of art and a lasting testament to Neil Ardley who sadly passed away.

Rhino will celebrate Deep Purple's history with three definitive collections.

A FIRE IN THE SKY will be available as a three-LP set that includes a selection of 27 songs chosen from the 19 studio albums that Deep Purple recorded between 1968 and 2013. Among the highlights are the single edit version of Woman From Tokyo, the U.S. single edit for Burn, and the radio edit of Bad Attitude.

In 2016, past and present members of Purple (being Blackmore, Coverdale, Evans, Gillan, Glover, Hughes, Lord and Paice) were finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame; it was long-overdue recognition of all they'd achieved in a near half-century career. But in truth, this was merely affirmation for what millions already knew. Deep Purple have sold over 100 million records, were once acknowledged by the Guinness Book Of Records as the loudest band on the planet (for a show at the Rainbow in London during 1972).

1968 Record Marks First Time Davis Uses Electric Piano, Bass, and Guitar: Second Half is Acoustic

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Seminal Proto-Fusion Effort Explodes With Color and Vibrancy

Final Effort With Davis' Classic Second Quintet Finds the Leader Looking to the Past and the Future

Miles in the Sky reflects the intriguing curiosities and rainbow possibilities suggested by the album cover. Miles Davis' fifth and final album with his classic second quintet is kaleidoscopic in sound, forward-looking in structure, and contextually grounded in approach. As the legendary leader's first venture into what would become fusion, it's historical for containing the premier appearances of electric piano, bass, and guitar on a Davis effort. Laden with rich textures and style-bridging elements, Mobile Fidelity's 45RPM pressing brings the aural magic into focus.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, this collectable audiophile version of Miles in the Sky joins the ranks of eleven other essential Davis sets given supreme sonic and packaging treatment by Mobile Fidelity. Afforded the benefits provided by the record's wider grooves, Davis' burnished trumpet resounds with utmost clarity, and the soundstage seems to extend for days. Reference-caliber separation and imaging give each musician their own space, allowing every passage to come across without any sonic limitations.

The album's wide-open soundscapes soar. As do the fluid contributions of Davis' mates. Tony Williams' percussion, central to every composition here, transpires before your eyes. Herbie Hancock's piano hovers and fades with sublime purity. And George Benson, who sits on Paraphernalia, blows the equivalent of smoke rings with his bluesy guitar, which here takes on brilliant tonality and definition. The acoustic material that occupies the second half of the record is equally transparent and full-bodied.

Granted enhanced production and a greater field of audible information, Miles in the Sky can finally be perceived as belonging to the same upper echelon as Davis' ubiquitously acclaimed Nefertiti and Filles de Kilimanjaro--the albums that precede and follow, respectively, this watershed title. Commonly branded a transitional work, Miles in the Sky showcases Davis already at ease with electric instruments and eager to venture into uncharted territories. Doubling as organized jams and bridges between jazz and rock, both the rhythmically challenging Stuff and frisky Paraphernalia glancing toward the future while keeping solid footing in the past.

Similarly, so do Country Boy and Black Comedy. In his original review for jazz authority DownBeat, Larry Kart observes: Davis takes material from his earlier days and darkens its emotional tone. His opening phrase on 'Country Boy' recalls a fragment from his Summertime solo on the Porgy and Bess album, but here it is delivered with a vehemence that rejects the poignancy of the earlier performance. Even on 'Black Comedy,' his most straight ahead solo here, the orderly pattern of the past is displaced and fragmented.

Flavored with humor, bossa nova, country, and even ballroom phrases, the compositions on Miles in the Sky explodes with creativity, purpose, and color.

I Left My Heart In San Francisco (On Sale)

Can there really be a definitive album from a singer whose voice is one of the most immediately recognized and internationally cherished, and whose command of songs is akin to the manner in which an able-bodied masseuse handles delicate muscle tissues? If so, then I Left My Heart In San Francisco is that record, the 1962 effort a turning point for the great Tony Bennett and an all-time pop standard. Winner of two Grammy Awards, the record contains Bennetts signature track as well as eleven other indelible classics.

Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180g LP presents Bennett in the finest sound hes ever enjoyed. Amazingly, this landmark recording has lavished in the vaults over the years and longed for the restoration that meticulous engineering can bring. Gone is the veiled haze that hung over the orchestrations, artificial ceiling that held back the highs, and cloudiness that obscured the entire range of Bennetts vocals. Previously unheard levels of warmth, expressiveness, and detailing are just some of the hallmarks of this terrific audiophile delight.

At the time of the albums sessions, Bennett found himself caught between the need to sing thin uptempo numbers in order to appease the marketplace and the desire to move beyond the jazzier material he tackled in the late 50s. Unwilling to compromise his will to sing ballads and swing, Bennett, along with producer Ernest Altschuler and arranger/pianist Ralph Sharon, found the perfect combination on I Left My Heart In San Francisco, replete with expansive orchestration, period echo, anthemic ballads, and lush pop arrangements that still leave plenty of room for intimacy and delicacy.

Theres little left to say about the timeless title track, amidst the most definitive songs ever recorded. Similarly, the closing The Best Is Yet to Come ranks equally high, with Bennetts rendition coming a full two years before Frank Sinatras version. Its no wonder why The Voice deemed Bennett his favorite singer. The proof is everywhere, whether on the brassy Rules of the Road, big-band bossa nova send-up of Cole Porters Love for Sale, tender Have I Told You Lately?, or the white-gloves treatment of the Broadway tune Once Upon a Time. Bennetts charismatic personality and refined singing ring true throughout, his burnished baritone as clear as spring water.

Now, hear this triumphant performance as if Bennett is singing to you on a private stage. Witness every breath, and experience the thrill of the singer holding a note for what seems like eternity on I'm Always Chasing Rainbows without flinching. Seldom, if ever, has a vocalists singing sounded so effortlessly natural and innate. Mobile Fidelitys 180g LP is simply unmatched in terms of sonics, spaciousness, and sensation.

One of the five-best vocal albums ever made. Order your collectors copy today!

    The King Of Limbs

Radiohead's highly anticipated eighth album, The King Of Limbs follows-up the artistic provocateurs' 7-time Grammy nominated 2007 release In Rainbows. The eight song collection was produced by longtime collaborator, Nigel Godrich and is arguably the most groove-oriented set of Radiohead's restless career.

King Of Limbs was named in honor of one of Great Britain's oldest trees. Nicknamed 'Big Belly Oak' and located in the 4,000-acre Savernake Forest in Wiltshire, England, the tree is estimated to be around 1,000 years old and has a girth of over 36 feet. The album was recorded in a country home less than three miles from Big Belly.

    Holy Diver Live

    Red Colored Vinyl

Holy Diver is the debut album from American heavy metal band Dio. Released on May 25, 1983, the album has been hailed by critics as Dio's best work and a classic staple in the heavy metal genre. Dio has been hailed as one of the finest voices in Heavy Metal for over 30 years now and for good reason. Due to his stints in Rainbow, Black Sabbath and as a solo artist, Dio is one of the few people in the history of music that can honestly say they have played on three classic albums, each under a different moniker.

Aptly titled, the Endless Path EP arrives propelled by the momentum of Babe Rainbow's 2010 debut Shaved EP. That release found fans in Salem, Gonjasufi, Lil B and Main Attraktionz amongst many others. Its dark atmospherics and minimalist bass excursions certainly inform this new material, but its also strongly colored by the myriad mixtapes and Chopped & Screwed projects that Babe Rainbow has unveiled in the past year.

    Down To Earth

Ronnie James Dio's departure prior to the recording of this 1979 album didn't halt the band's success-in fact, this one brought them their first charting single, Since You Been Gone. Deep Purple bass man Roger Glover was now in the mix, and this is the only Rainbow album featuring the vocals of Graham Bonnet.
