    Lust For Life

Lust for Life is the second studio album by Iggy Pop, his second solo release and his second collaboration with David Bowie, following The Idiot earlier in the year. As well as achieving critical success, it was Pop's most commercially popular album to date, and remains his only Gold-certified release in the UK.

    The Idiot

The Idiot is the debut solo album by American rock singer Iggy Pop. It was the first of two LPs released in 1977 which Pop wrote and recorded in collaboration with David Bowie. Sessions for the album were begun prior to the recording of the first installment in Bowie's Berlin Trilogy, Low (1977), and The Idiot has thus been called the unofficial beginning of Bowie's Berlin period. Drawing on the electronic sounds of German groups such as Kraftwerk, The Idiot is a departure from the hard rock of Pop's former band the Stooges and has been compared to Bowie's contemporaneous albums in its treated instrument sounds and introspective atmosphere.

The album is regarded by critics as one of Pop's best works but is not generally considered representative of his output. Its title was inspired by Dostoyevsky's novel The Idiot, three of the participants in the recording-Bowie, Pop and Tony Visconti-being familiar with the book. The album has been characterized as a major influence on subsequent post-punk, industrial, and gothic artists.

    The Idiot (Red/Yellow)

    Red/Yellow Colored Vinyl

Originally released in 1977, this was the first album Iggy Pop made after the dissolution of the Stooges, several jailings and a self-imposed stay in a mental institution. Produced by David Bowie, and including music written almost entirely by him, this is Iggy's most introspective and heavy work. Much more mechanical than the sleazy proto-punk of the Stooges, The Idiot was a huge influence on the post-punk sound of folks like Joy Division and Magazine. An absolute classic on red - yellow vinyl.

    Purple Colored Vinyl

Released less than a year after The Idiot, Lust For Life is a return to the sloppy, sleazy, blues-y, swagger of the Stooges. Though the record is, again produced by David Bowie, he takes much more of a backseat musically, allowing for Iggy Pop to take center stage in his return to form. His best solo album and an absolute classic from this legend. Reissued on purple vinyl.

    Zombie Birdhouse

Twelve albums into the fray, Iggy Pop has found sanctuary on Animal Records, a Chrysalis subsidiary whose roster is overseen by Chris Stein of Blondie. Now that Iggy's free of major-label expectations (not that he ever capitulated), one might have anticipated something on the order of Metallic K.O. Revisited. Surprisingly, Zombie Birdhouse is a brainy, well-plotted collection with more depth than could have been expected from the author of I Wanna Be Your Dog.

This album may just be Iggy's Morrison Hotel; like that Doors classic, Zombie Birdhouse takes an almost novelistic look at the character of America that is by turns funny and angry, reverential and irreverent. It's filled, too, with an almost mystical primitivism that brings out the shaman in Iggy's soul. The Doors analogy is unavoidable in this sense, of course, but all this imitation is sincerely flattering, and it's been awhile since we've had a convincing shaman on the scene. Besides, the rich lyrical imagery and musical daring of Zombie Birdhouse, particularly on the first side, are enough to make it a minor classic in its own right. Take Life of Work, in which Iggy Pop has refashioned an old sea shanty into a sad riddle for the working class: What do you do with a life of work?/Face it in the morning. The Ballad of Cookie McBride is just amazing; it sounds like a Bob Dylan lament sung by Leon Russell with a twist of Lizard King metaphysics (Hi-hi-ho, it's a watery day/On my way to an unmarked grave). Throughout, Iggy's collaborator, guitarist-keyboardist Rob duPrey, manages to produce some fascinating noise by altering, filtering and treating his instruments. Chris Stein and Clem Burke of Blondie provide the exotic rhythmic spice that seasons this record to perfection.

Recorded At Mantra Studios In Chicago - March 28th, 1977

This release, taken from a live radio broadcast of an in-house set recorded at Mantra Studios in Chicago, captures Iggy and Bowie alongside their touring band; during what was essentially a radio session, but one which captures superbly the essence of the tour they were undertaking at the time. Recorded just 10 days after the release of The Idiot on 28th March 1977, this recording reveals a truly legendary occasion for fans, unlikely as they are to have previously heard this rare set.

    Can't Get Enough

Two time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stephen Stills and five-time Grammy nominated guitarist, songwriter and singer Kenny Wayne Shepherd may be separated by a musical generation, but they are bonded by a mutual love of the blues. When they joined forces with famed Chicago rock/blues keyboardist Barry Goldberg and formed The Rides, their extraordinary collective histories proved to be unparalleled - blazing a 21st Century trail for the historical American art form.

Launching an exciting new chapter in each of their storied careers, the trio's new band is further powered by the explosive rhythm section of bassist Kevin McCormick and Shepherd's longtime drummer Chris Layton (also a veteran of the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble).

Their 429 Records debut, Can't Get Enough features the new single Don't Want Lies and showcases a hard hitting mix of Stills-Goldberg-Shepherd penned blues/rock originals as well as some classic blues tunes. Also included are brilliant interpretations of Muddy Waters, Honey Bee, Elmore James & Talk To Me Baby and blistering twists on Stills' favorite Neil Young anthem & Rockin' In The Free World as well as the Iggy Pop & The Stooges early 70s
    classic Search and Destroy.

    TV Eye: 1977 (Live)

TV Eye Live 1977 (or TV Eye) is a live album by Iggy Pop originally released in 1978. Iggy took a $90,000 advance from RCA Records to finish his contract with a live album. According to allmusic.com, the album was assembled from soundboard tapes. Iggy Pop doctored them in a German studio, quickly and cheaply for around $5,000. The album features recordings from concerts at The Agora in Cleveland, Ohio on March 21 & 22, 1977; The Aragon in Chicago, Illinois on March 28, 1977, and The Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Missouri on October 26, 1977.

The album is notable for the presence of David Bowie on keyboards and background vocals for selected tracks and the rather crushing bass and drum sound; also, with the Sales brothers, the lineup prefigures in part Bowie's Tin Machine lineup.

    Post Pop Depression

A lot of geezers my age don't work out of their comfort zone anymore because once you become legendary you don't want people challenging you." - Iggy Pop

Post Pop Depression is IGGY POP's new, studio album, produced by Joshua Homme (Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal). The 17th Iggy Pop album, and a worthy addition to the 22 album legacy spawned with the immortal trilogy of The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power, spanning massively influential solo outings including 1977's opening 1-2 combo of The Idiot and Lust For Life, and 1990's gold-certified Brick By Brick.

The first Iggy Pop album co-created with producer Homme, Post Pop Depression began with a succinctly worded text from Iggy to Joshua, and was realized in seclusion with Homme's enlisted aid of his Queens Of The Stone Age bandmate and Dead Weather-man Dean Fertitia and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.

Post Pop Depression is a singular work that stands proudly alongside the best works of either of its principles, from The Stooges to Queens Of The Stone Age, bearing its creators' undeniable sonic DNA while sounding like nothing they've done before. It's a record that wouldn't exist without either Pop or Homme-and one that probably shouldn't in theory if you really think about it-but it does, and we and rock n roll are all the better for it.

40th Anniversary Issue Of The Pioneering Punk Club 'Max's 1976' Comp, Plus Bonus Max's Album And The Background Story

In 1976 the New York City club 'Max's Kansas City' entered a new musical phase, with the underground movement that became PuNk developing within its walls. Resident DJ Wayne County wrote a song for the club cataloguing the new bands that regularly played there: New York Dolls, Patti Smith, The Ramones, Television, Blondie, Iggy Pop, the Heartbreakers and many more. The single was issued as a taster for the 40th anniversary of 'Max's Kansas City 1976' compilation album, now due for a much-extended reissuedon double-vinyl.

Alongside Wayne County it features Suicide, Cherry Vanilla, The Fast, Harry Toledo and more; now expanded with 20 more unsung underground heroes including The Offs, The Senders and The Stilettos, plus the Heartbreakers, New York Dolls, Iggy Pop, Nico, Gang War and Sid Vicious, including various previously unreleased recordings and rarities. Over the years the Max's Kansas City club has become ever more legendary.

Live At River Plate Stadium - Buenos Aires, Brazil - March 16th, 1996

On 16th March 1996, the Ramones played a farewell concert to 45,000 fans in Buenos Aires in what had been initially planned as the final show of their storied 20-year career. The River Plate Stadium, home to one of South America's most famous football clubs, had filled to the brim, while none other than Iggy Pop played as the opening act before the Ramones took to the stage. The band returned to the States on the Lollapolooza bill, playing their last show in Los Angeles on 6th August 1996. Nonetheless, they had built such a fiercely dedicated fan base down south that they had become, as branded by a major Buenos Aires daily paper, The Argentine Punk Band, "La Banda Punk Argentina."

    - ROLLING STONE

On his 2011 debut Will The Guns Come Out, Hanni El Khatib tried
    something he'd never tried before-making a bedroom-style
recording of his then stripped-to-the-skeleton guitar-and-drums
rock 'n' roll mostly for the sheer joy of making it. For his ferocious
2013 follow-up Head In The Dirt, he tried something new again,
showing up at producer Dan Auerbach's analog-dreamland
Nashville studio with nothing but the clothes on his back and an
    open mind.

But after Head In The Dirt's release and almost a year of relentless
touring, Hanni knew he needed to go past 'unpredictable' all the
way to 'unprecedented.' He needed isolation, time and the chance
to experiment. So after 30 days locked in hand-picked L.A. studio
The Lair, the result is the album Moonlight-the rarest and most
welcome kind of album, made at that perfect point in life where
confidence, experience, and technique unite to help an artist do
    anything they want.

That's why it starts with a song that sounds like a Mobb Deep beat
under a Suicide-style synth drone and ends with an
ESG-meets-LCD Soundsystem gone italo-disco song about life and
death. That's why it collides crushing crate-digger drumbeats
that'd be right at home on a Can LP or an Eddie Bo 45 with
bleeding distorto guitar, bent and broken barroom piano and
hallucinatory analog flourishes. (In fact, some smart producer is
going to sample the drums from this album and complete the circle
of life.) And that's also why Moonlight feels like the album he's
always wanted to make: "What would it sound like if RZA got in the
studio with Iggy Pop and Tom Waits?" he asks. "I don't know! That
    was my approach on everything."

It's a personal album in the most primal sense, put together in any
way that worked. Iggy Pop and David Bowie did this kind of thing
on The Idiot, the Wu-Tang Clan did it on 36 Chambers and the
Clash did it three times over on Sandinista. And now it's Hanni's
turn, across 11 new lightning-struck songs, each written and
recorded in its own flash of inspiration. It sounds like an album
made by an endless list of collaborators, but really Moonlight was
more like the first do-it-almost-all-yourself music Hanni ever made,
except after six years recording and touring, he'd learned to do so
    much more.

As one-third of Yellow Magic Orchestra and an Academy Award-winning composer for his work on the soundtrack for The Last Emperor, synth pop innovator Ryuichi Sakamoto is among the most groundbreaking artists to have emerged since the late 70s. A musician's musician, Ryuichi Sakamoto has created intriguing musical unions with artists such as David Sylvian, Iggy Pop, Tony Williams, Bootsy Collins, Jacques Morelenbaum and many others.

async is Ryuichi Sakamoto's first studio album in eight years. This is his most personal release as it follows a long fight against cancer from which Ryuichi Sakamoto emerged with a renewed and passionate creative energy.

"What kind of "sounds/music" do I want to listen to?

async is the answer to this question Ryuichi has asked himself for the past several years. This is the album he is the most proud of which synthesizes all of his musical and sound interests. This is a journey through analog synth, the sounds of things and of places, an imaginary soundtrack to an Andrei Tarkovsky film and many others musical surprises.

Arriving in March 1999 with an album cover that referenced The Exorcist and a title scalped from a well-known Glasgow gang slogan, you'd have expected Mogwai's 'Come On Die Young' to be an apocalypse-harbouring, pre-millennial assault on the senses. Instead, we were treated to a darkly elegiac - surprisingly restrained - response to the aural fireworks of their 'Young Team' debut from two years earlier.

Recorded and mixed at Dave Fridmann's Tarbox Road Studios in Upstate New York, 'Come On Die Young' begins with a sample of Iggy Pop eulogizing the genius of punk rock and ends with a track entitled 'Punk Rock/Puff Daddy/Antichrist'. This thoughtful and irreverent diptych enclosed an hour of music that was as beautiful as it was blistering and as poignant as it was unpredictable: preconceptions of what to expect from a Mogwai album, disassembled at a stroke.

'Come On Die Young' was - and remains - a hugely accomplished, elegant and important album, setting a benchmark for the fierce intelligence that would characterize Mogwai's future body of work. The reissue of 'Come On Die Young' - fifteen years after it originally hit the shelves - recognizes the vital role this album played in Chemikal Underground's development as the label approaches its 20th anniversary in 2015. This deluxe edition of 'Come On Die Young' has been painstakingly put together by the band and label, unearthing more than an hour of bonus material.

    American Caesar

American Caesar was originally released in 1993, a couple of years after the all star comeback album Brick By Brick, the double album found Iggy returning to the studio for the follow up with his muscular, tight touring band and they made what is arguably his best solo record since New Values in the 1970s. The dark, loud and subtly atmospheric record was recorded in New Orleans with Producer Malcolm Burn. American Caesar finds Iggy exploring the dark heart of America in songs that range from all out hard rock such as Wild America and Sickness to calmer numbers like Jealousy and Mixin' The Colors. Iggy also puts his stamp on the rock classic Louie Louie and makes it his own with some lyrical updating. He ends the record with the funny and brutal spoken word Caesar in which Iggy plays a U.S. version of the ancient leaders of the Roman Empire. This is most definitely an Iggy Pop record and a hidden gem in his catalog. Includes a previously unavailable insert with an image of Iggy on one side and the lyrics on the other.

Long before the raw power of punk icon Iggy Pop became legend, his first incarnation as Iggy Stooge of proto-punk trailblazers The Stooges roared into being. The essence of punk years before the genre existed, The Stooges' furious music was a howling, visceral, fuzztone-drenched, and unprecedented vortex of sound. Their bracing sophomore release, Fun House portrayed their evolution into a fiercer, stronger band with Iggy's primal vocals and mad brilliance more potent than ever.

    Rock Action

Iggy Pop's various musical style changes throughout his career are detailed in this collection of rare and unreleased tracks. The awesome power of the Stooges is on display as well as Iggy Pop's now dated experiments in new wave. Riddled with cover tunes, the album does not betray Iggy Pop's roots in garage rock. Pulled from live dates throughout the '80s the cover tunes range from Family Affair by Sly and the Family Stone to the Batman Theme. These cover tunes are simply points of interest rather than the powerful rock & roll that Iggy Pop shows himself to be capable of. Louie Louie slurs into Hang on Sloopy. No Fun gives the nod to Lou Reed and becomes Waiting for the Man, but the strongest points of the album are the ad-libbed tracks. Rock Action and Modern Guy display Iggy Pop's ability to make up lyrics off the top of his head. They appear to be just studio jams that have been brought to the stage with powerful results. In Rock Action, it sounds as though Iggy Pop was just musing on his former bandmate's self-proclaimed title, creating a song that puts a voice to his demand for action. Only two other tracks on the collection reach the same level as the jam tracks. I Got a Right and Gimme Some Skin are two of the Stooges' greatest songs that never made it onto their studio albums. The heavy rhythms of Gimme Some Skin are the Stooges at their best with Iggy Pop again putting voice to his need for action. --Matt Whalley
