    Astonishingly released within months of Jackson's 1979 debut album Look Sharp!, I'm the Man is another tight and inspired set of power-pop that features some of Jackson's best and most timeless tunes. Many of the songs here like "On Your Radio," "Kinda Kute," and the title track "I'm the Man" fall right in line with the punchy guitar riffs and pounding bass that made Look Sharp! such a driving force. In fact, this was the last album Jackson would make in this new-wave vein for over 20 years. Jackson followed I'm the Man with only one more album featuring the tight ensemble featured here- Graham Maby (bass), Gary Sanford (guitar) and Tony Houghton (drums)- and creatively restless soul that he is didn't return to this brand of power pop until reuniting that lineup for 2003's underrated Volume 4.


    I doubt it was possible to listen to I'm the Man in 1979, and predict the subsequent ska-inspired Beat Crazy or 1982's ode to jazz, Night and Day. But we do hear the songwriter growing into his powers with "It's Different for Girls," one of his strongest and most lyrically perceptive songs, and one with decades of staying power; one of Jackson's great live set pieces today is a solo piano arrangement of that song that's as arresting as the original in some ways. Jackson would famously broaden his influences in later albums and his catalog is nothing if not diverse. While Jackson's greatest commercial success was Night and Day, Look Sharp! and I'm the Man are new-wave classics that improve with every listen!


    I'm the Man is sourced from the best analog tape currently available, a beautifully preserved ½" "safety copy" of the original stereo master. When mastering this LP we compared what we were getting off the tape to an original A&M UK LP. While great sounding overall, the original LP is of course a very edgy sounding New Wave, post-punk record with a brashness that borders on being outright bright sounding. Where the aggressive top -end energy is concerned, the tapes showed no discenible age! We were able to maintain that grungy edge, but also restore the driving bass lines and bottom-end foundation that were on these tapes. The result is the best-sounding I'm the Man anyone's ever heard, with all the drive and pop of the original UK release, but with superb tonal balance, imaging and clarity. The definitive issue of this iconic New Wave classic!

    I'm Not Your Man

    It's amazing how the floodgates open when you shut out all the internal and external noise, stop pandering to stereotype, cease listening to your anxieties, and disregard the compartment society has built for you. I'm Not Your Man, the Charlie Andrew(Alt-J, Rae Morris)-produced second album from Marika Hackman, begins with an impromptu hearty laugh. It's not the sound of silliness; it's the sound of liberation, spontaneity, and joy. 24-year-old Hackman is feeling more herself than ever. Life isn't necessarily funnier or happier, but when there's cause for a joke or a big ballsy statement, she's not holding back anymore.


    The album took almost 18 months to complete, during which time Hackman switched to a new manager and a new label, transitions that yielded new avenues for exploration, a lot of time, and a lot of distance - mainly, she insists, from self-imposed boundaries. "I used to be very self-conscious," explains Hackman. "If something sounded a bit too pop or like I'd heard it before I'd mold it into something different. This time around I thought, 'fuck it, I'll just let it flow.'"


    The results of this semi-anarchic approach are evident in the grungier, catchier sonics of I'm Not Your Man, and the lyrics, which reveal an unhinged and shamelessly free Hackman. There's an open-ended nature to the lyrics, which delve into femininity, sex and sexual identity, millennial ennui, the pressures of living in a social media bubble, and the perils of being young in a fast-paced industry. "The record's all about female relationships, romance, and breakdowns, but there's also a dim worldview going on. 'I'm Not Your Man' can either mean 'I'm not your man, I'm your woman,' or it can mean 'I'm not a part of this.'"


    Hackman cranked up the knobs in the studio, turning away from the quieter sounds of her past to realize her teenage fantasy of fronting a raucous band. "I wanted to let rip and lose control. When I was younger I wasn't looking at Joni Mitchell. I was looking at Nirvana thinking, 'I wanna be like that!'" To channel this feral female energy, Hackman recruited London quartet The Big Moon as her backing band. The results are a dynamic, multi-genre album tied together by razor-sharp wit. The sounds span from Cate Le Bon weirdness to Warpaint dirge jams to straight-up Britpop choruses. "People were saying it was a mash-up between Radiohead, Blondie, and The Cure," laughs Hackman, self-mockingly. "I can't wait to see the reaction," she says. "That's the thrill of reinventing yourself. I might piss off a lot of die-hard folky fans but this is still my brain, it's still my world, and I'm gonna create it how I want."

    Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield) will always be known as one
    of the founding fathers of modern day blues. His legendary style of playing
    guitar, his unique vocal prowess and of course his stellar list of classic
    Chicago and Mississippi Delta blues tunes have all gone on to influence
    generations upon generations of rock and blues performers worldwide.


    With almost six decades in the music business, this Mississippi
    native was soon being discovered by a whole new legion of rock and roll
    fans thanks to his songs being recorded by folks like The Rolling Stones
    and Johnny Winter.


    As the stars aligned, Johnny Winter would go on to produce and
    play on his mentor's masterpiece I'm Ready. Featuring an all-star band
    with the likes of the legendary Jimmy Rogers on guitar, Walter Horton on
    harmonica, and the masterful Pine Top Perkins on piano, Muddy Waters'
    I'm Ready would go on to become one of the his most revered albums
    earning him a Grammy Award in 1978.

    Muddy continues to rock the house through a treasure trove of 8 more
    blues champions which made this one of the most important recordings

    Muddy Waters, the undisputed king of Chicago blues, hit a string of highly successful albums in the late 70s. In between Hard Again and King Bee came in 1978 I'm Ready, a powerful blues record containing new material and classic reworks.     I'm Glad I'm Not Me was recorded at Mission Sound (Metric, Arctic Monkeys, Matt & Kim) in Brooklyn, NY and was produced by Jon Kaplan (Cage The Elephant, Walk The Moon) and co-produced by Born Cages' lead singer Vlad Holiday. On the album, Holiday, bassist/keyboardist Matt Maroulakos and drummer Dave Tantao conjure festival-ready, truly modernist modern rock that is every bit as grand as its song titles would predict: "Bigger Than Me." "I Just Want The Truth, Baby." "Don't Look Back." "Finding Beauty in a Broken World."


    I'm Glad I'm Not Me touches on rock, electronic, dance, alternative and everything in between, reaching listeners thought to be quarantined from each other.     Cody Jinks was raised on country music but he cut his teeth on metal. "Metallica was king. They set the tone for me and I spent a good part of my youth wanting to be James Hetfield." After a dedicated stint as a frontman in a thrash metal band, Jinks willingly found himself back to where it all began. "My dad loved the outlaw country icons, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. That never ending consistency of incredible music growing up laid some very deep seeds. I'm mean, come on nothing better than mentally diving into 'The Hag' and metal when it comes time for me to write songs."


    Always avoiding trends and ferociously choosing his direction was the only option from day one, even though that very path could have prevented success. "What is success if you can't wake up everyday being who you really are. In the end, that will catch up with you." Jinks has been tested countless times by his career choices. The better part of the last 15 years have included numerous empty bar rooms and a never ending financial loss. "Yeah, I've been pretty good at losing money. Not the greatest feeling in the world to be gone from home for long stretches of time, only to walk in the door broke. Luckily I've got a damn good woman in my life. She has stood by me with unmeasurable strength to say the least and it is an absolute fact that I seriously overplayed my hand when landing her."


    His long, dark beard and endless array of tattoos are no fad. They unquestionably define Cody Jinks. His prototypical metal/hard rock band frontman look is not a well orchestrated image, but again, define Cody Jinks. Diving into to his album, I'm Not the Devil is the perpetual truth of who he is and where he has found himself at this point in his career. "I'm just glad that I ended up where I am now," Jinks said. "It makes complete sense that I'm at this place in my life. Country music found me when I was young and chased me down as I grew older"


    Jinks' latest project is his deepest, darkest and most provocative album to date, with a metal common denominator, the apocalypse, running throughout the record. "It's a pretty scary time," Jinks said. "There are some evil people running things in the world. It hits me since I have a six and three-year old."
    There's not a weightier song than the aptly titled "Heavy Load." It's the most apocalyptic song on the album but the dense cut, with a pretty violin break, is a gorgeous tune. The vocal hook grabs ears when Jinks croons "Train Jumps Tracks Some Time Ago/You Can't Root That Heavy Load." "That was the last song I wrote on the record," Jinks said. "I couldn't be happier how that one turned out."


    "All You Can" features a pretty piano line and sobering wordplay. When Jinks belts out 'What Are You Living For," you can't help but think about the serious question posed in what is becoming an increasingly shallow existence. "I was really tired when I wrote that song," Jinks said. "We had been on the road for awhile. The bottom line is that if you're not helping people, you're not doing your job as a human being. It's time to quit feeling sorry for yourself and do something."
    One of Jinks' favorite songs on the album is "The Way I Am," a cover of a Merle Haggard classic. "I love that song," Jinks says. "I wrapped it up just before Merle died. The song always resonated with me. I relate to that one since there are times I would rather be out fishing."


    "No Words" is a stunner of a gritty, autobiographical love song, which is a throwback to how songs used to be written. It is a tuneful gem, inspired by reality. Jinks starts out dark as night. "My Whole View of the World has Changed/ I Guess that Comes with Age/I Don't Believe there is Good in Every Man Like I Did Back Then/I May Drink More Than I Should/You've Seen Me on the Floor/I Spent my Lifetime in this Cage I Built Around Me." But the song is actually a tip of the hat to his beloved wife of 19 years. "There Aint' No Words/ To Say How Much I Need You/With You Here/ You Make This Life I Lead Worth Living." "It's about my wife," Jinks says. "But the funny thing is that she doesn't like it. She thinks it sounds too sad."


    With the title track "I'm Not the Devil," Jinks wakes us all up to the realities of mistakes and the heartfelt desire to be forgiven. "We are all guilty of mistakes and very guilty of pointing out the mistakes of others. Forgiveness feels so much better or so I think."


    It's impressive how Jinks is getting his message across. Jinks utilizes space well in his songs. Notes aren't crammed in. Jinks lets his songs breathe. "After all I've experienced, I think I've matured," Jinks says. "I think you can hear it in the music. I've grown up."


    Even though he still looks the part of the headbanger he was back in the day, he has moved on. "It's all for the best, Jinks says. "I'm where I was meant to be."


    It's all about the music and the fans, who are the fuel that drives Jinks. "They come out night after night giving up hard earned money and precious time to see me play," Jinks says. " It's truly is amazing when you really think about it. The best way I can say thanks is by giving back with effort and gratitude."

    Tell 'Em I'm Gone is the first new Yusuf album since 2009's
    acclaimed Roadsinger. Recorded all over the world,
    including Los Angeles, Dubai, Brussels, and London, the

    Gone features musical contributions from Richard Thompson,
    blues harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite, singer-songwriter
    Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Tuareg group Tinariwen, and guitarist
    Matt Sweeney, as well as production from Rick Rubin.


    Each track on Tell 'Em I'm Gone is threaded together by the
    themes of freedom and peace that have prevailed through more
    than four decades of Yusuf's musical career. On this album,
    Yusuf returns to the roots of his musical inspiration: American
    blues and R&B, using these genres to explore the universality
    of the desire for freedom with songs that recall the spirit of his
    earliest days as a nascent singer-songwriter in London.


    "What's powerful and profound, to me, is the overall message
    which emerged, lyrically," Yusuf says of the new album.

    Having first found fame as a teenage folk singer in 1960s
    England, Cat Stevens gained worldwide acclaim for his
    intimate and affecting works in the 1970s. His compositions
    "Wild World," "Peace Train," "Father and Son" and "Morning
    Has Broken" remain staples of the folk genre. Following a
    conversion to the Islamic faith in 1978, Stevens retired from
    the music business to pursue important causes in the
    Muslim community; 2006 saw Yusuf's celebrated return to pop
    music with the album An Other Cup.

    I'm Ready (Pure Pleasure)

    For the middle album of his Johnny Winter-produced, late-'70s musical trilogy, blues giant Muddy Waters brought a new spirit to some familiar material. Starting with members of Waters' touring band - pianist Pinetop Perkins, bassist Bob Margolin, and drummer Willie Big Eyes Smith - Winter added underrated guitarist (and longtime Waters foil) Jimmy Rogers and extraordinary harp player Big Walter Horton to the mix. The songs recorded for I'm Ready offer a mix of new material and vintage hit singles like the title cut, the mid-'60s jewel Screamin' and Cryin', or the Willie Dixon-penned I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man. Waters and band provide these well-worn gems with a little new studio polish, but it is with the newer songs that the performers really shine.

    A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.



    We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.



    We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.



    To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    In the grand tradition of peanut butter meeting Iggy's chest or Bing Crosby getting down with David Bowie, Third Man Records is ecstatic to present the latest in a long-line of unexpected musical pairings, Insane Clown Posse and Mozart.


    Back in '82, ahem, 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piece that's been left out of the spotlight ever since. The title of the piece is Leck Mich Im Arsch or literally translated to English as Lick me in the arse. Understandably this piece has figuratively been swept under the rug. So who better to give this piece its due respect than the wildly successful, much misunderstood, and divisive Southwest Detroit rappers Insane Clown Posse?


    With fellow Southwest Detroit-born Jack White at the production helm and musical backing by Nashville's very own Jeff the Brotherhood, this 2011 version of ''Leck Mich Im Arsch'' marries Mozart's melody (and lyrics sung in operatic German) with ICP's poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the Bs monster-riffs, letting the whole thing tie together in the most beautiful of ways.


    The b-side Mountain Girl finds Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope telling tall tales about a shotgun wedding, meth problems and moonshine, all pretty common-fare for a twangy country song birthed in Nashville. 7 vinyl single, fold-over picture sleeve in poly bag. Produced by Jack White.

    New music from the ''Queen of Rockabilly'', Ms. Wanda Jackson. In an era when rock and roll and rockabilly was dominated by men, Jackson was a groundbreaker who more than held her own with a ripping voice like no other and hard-headed songs about no-nonsense female protagonists.     The first two songs from the Wanda Jackson / Jack White recording sessions will be released on vinyl on January 26. The Third Man Records-released tracks will feature Jackson's cover of Amy Winehouse's ''You Know I'm No Good'' and 1960s British rock band Johnny Kidd and the Pirates' ''Shakin' All Over.''


    The Queen of Rockabilly went to Nashville in November to record with White, who has produced albums for the Von Bondies, Whirlwind Heat, the Greenhornes and Dexter Romweber Duo. He also produced country legend Loretta Lynn's Grammy Award-winning album, Van Lear Rose, in 2004.

    One of the unsung heroes of British blues, this one-man band was a fine harmonica player and singer, a decent guitarist, and a soulful enough singer to make one overlook his distinctly unbluesy high voice. The opening Worried Mind - just Duster on harp, guitar, voice, high-hat and kick drum - is a marvelously sloppy shuffle romp that holds its own with the Fabulous Thunderbirds' work ten years hence. On other tracks Bennett is backed by three-fourths of the original Fleetwood Mac, who provide simple, effective support without stealing any limelight; solos are kept to a minimum. Originals My Lucky Day (with chromatic harmonica) and Jumping at Shadows (which Mac would later cover) are absolutely outstanding, and Duster does justice to Magic Sam's My Love Is Your Love.

    Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: No Martin Album Sounds Like This


    Dean Martin was always at his best when he sounded effortless, when the singing required no exertion-just the same amount of investment required to order a martini. Confident, refined, breezy, and easygoing, this 1960 Capitol album epitomizes the crooner's charm. In pairing with arranger and Frank Sinatra right-hand-man Nelson Riddle, Martin strikes all the right notes on this collection of then-recent and retro standards.


    Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP gets inside the core being of Martin's impeccably smooth, relaxed singing by presenting every phrase, dip, and inflection with lifelike realism. The LP does similar wonders for Riddle's backing orchestra. Horns teem with punch and midrange; rhythms possess incredible pacing; strings saunter and float. No Martin album has ever sounded like this. Mobile Fidelity also secured the rights to a bonus track, Ain't That a Kick in the Head, left off the album and released as a single in order to promote the movie Ocean's Eleven.


    While Martin enjoyed his biggest commercial success at Reprise, the aptly titled This Time I'm Swingin' is considered by many critics and vocal-pop fans to be his finest studio hour. He approaches each song with supreme confidence and debonair control, never overreaching his limits or breaking a sweat. Here, he more than lives up to his nickname: The King of Cool. Charismatic, assured, and note-perfect, the album belongs alongside any of the period sets cut by his pal and once-and-future labelmate Sinatra. No wonder that his most recognized hit, the aforementioned and included "Ain't That a Kick in the Head," was actually cut at these sessions.


    Riddle's expert ordering of the charts and direction of horns, strings, and piano equates to jazz and swing genius. Brass blows hard and strong during breaks, calm down for verses during which slinky 88s and swaying strings join the dance, and then rise up, the mix elegantly performed and irresistibly catchy. If you're not snapping your fingers and instantly transported to a swank nightclub within the first few passages of the opening "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me," check your system's setup.


    Yet Martin is the real star. Hearing him handle such classics as the devotional "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," upbeat "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You," hopeful "Someday (You'll Want Me to Want You)," bluesy "You're Mean to Me," and clever "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" with such aplomb-and now, in such ravishing detail-will remind you why you love music, and why nothing of this ilk will likely ever be made again.


    Martin convincingly conveys the mood each song demands, but a sense of optimism, playfulness, and feel-good romance pervade this stylish effort. If you are a fan of real singing and emotional crooning, you cannot live without this analog edition. A veritable gem.

    Broadcast live in early 1976 from L.A.s legendary Roxy Theatre by that city's KMET FM Radio, this dynamic set captures the former Velvet Underground front-man, Lou Reed, working through an eight song selection of some of his finest work he had released up to that juncture. Featuring a sublime Im Waiting For The Man dating back to the first VU album, Lisa Says, a song written at a similar time and indeed demoed by the Velvets but not released until it's inclusion on Lou's first, eponymous solo LP in 1972, and two cuts apiece from October '75's Coney Island Baby (Kicks & the title track) and his then yet to be released Rock and Roll Heart (I Believe In Love & You Wear It So Well) a record not issued until October '76. He was never going to get out alive however without performing ...Wild Side, thus a 10 minute rendition of this classic tune provides the penultimate number of this energetic performance.

    As one quarter of one of the most influential bands of the 20th century, Maureen Moe Tuckers work in the Velvet Underground created a template for all rock drummers that followed. Even today, Moes primal, tribal rhythms can be heard in countless songs from artists around the globe. Her no-nonsense style, spare kit, no drum stool, almost no cymbals, conveyed an urgency and an honesty that was the foundation of the bands sound. In a patchouli-soaked world of 20 minute double-bass drum solos, Moe kept it simple, direct and to the point. As Lou Reed put it, Shes the driving force. The hardcore heart of the Velvets mindset.


    Following her tenure with VU, Moe emerged as a solo artist, building a body of work that stretched over three decades. Ranging from home recordings to collaborations with members of Sonic Youth, Violent Femmes, Half-Japanese and her former band, the songs cover a gamut of styles but all bear the unmistakable thumbprint of their creator. Released by various independent labels on LPs, EPs, singles and compact discs, collecting her catalog has been a daunting task. This compilation finally gathers those far-flung tracks in one place.


    More than just a drummer, Moe is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, sax, keyboards, harmonica and whatever else the song might need. For prime examples of her DIY recording technique, check out her rendition of Chuck Berrys Around and Around from her debut LP Playin Possum. Recording that album at home on a four-track tape recorder allowed Moe to reconnect with her rock roots and eventually led to a return to live performing.


    Moving to Douglas, Georgia as a single mother in the early 80s greatly impacted her songwriting. Themes of workaday blues and tough times are reflected in songs like Spam Again and Thats B.A.D. Loss is also a recurring topic, as in Andy, a touching tribute to the late Andy Warhol. However, it is not all darkness and melancholia. Bursts of exuberance in songs like Hey Mersh! and her loving cover of Bo Diddley radiate infectious joy. Moe also faces the VU legacy head on, reinterpreting seminal tracks like Heroin, Im Waiting for the Man, Pale Blue Eyes and Im Sticking with You and making them her own. Of all the former Velvets, Moes solo work is perhaps the most direct continuation of the bands sound and structure. She never lost her love for pure, lean rock and roll.
