    Superchunk (Pre-Order)

The remastered LP features updated artwork and includes an 11 × 17 replica of an early Chunk show flyer, with photos and notes from the band on the reverse.

Mac shared his memories of these early days of Superchunk: When I listen to our first album now, other than cringing at some clams and the vocals and the juvenile attitude of the whole thing what was I angry about? You'll have to ask 21-year-old me because in my memory, we were having fun. I hear the accumulation of our influences, which I suppose is normal for a first album-weaving all the things you loved up to that point into your own first thing. The Buzzcocks, HÜsker DÜ, Dinosaur Jr, and Sonic Youth are all right there and what we were listening to. Hearing this record recently, though, I was surprised at how southern some of it sounds, and I think the influence of bands like Drivin' n' Cryin' and of course R.E.M. is there under the fuzz. I remember thinking the solo 4-track demo of Slack Motherfucker sounded like Tom Petty. I can't find it now to prove it to you, but take my word for it. I was living in NYC finishing school when we made this record, so rehearsals and recording were all rushed. I'm surprised we knew this many songs well enough to record them. Twenty-seven years later, we still play at least three or four of these songs live occasionally (one of them all the time ), which says something good about a few of the songs, anyway! We got so much better as a band, and as songwriters, that it's hard to even see this as any kind of template for what Superchunk would eventually be, but it's definitely where we were at in 1989/90.

File Under: Easy Listening (Deluxe Edition)

This vinyl reissue of Sugar's classic 1994 album File Under: Easy Listening from Merge includes a remastered version of the album plus downloads of the full record, B-sides and a complete 1994 live show.

Gatefold vinyl with printed Euro sleeve.

Through both his solo work and as a frontman for the legendary HÜsker DÜ, Bob Mould pioneered a signature wall of guitar sound and unmistakable vocal style that has imprinted a defining influence on more than one generation. In the three decades encompassing his career thus far, however, Mould saw his greatest success during his stint as lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for iconic early '90s trio Sugar.

File Under: Easy Listening a.k.a F.U.E.L., the third and final album by this short-lived but brilliant trio, was originally released in September of 1994. Songs like "Your Favorite Thing" have endured as mainstays of Mould's solo performances to this day!

"When word went around that Bob Mould had a new band, not only a 'band' band (as opposed to hired band to play his solo albums on tour) but also a trio, of course anyone raised from teenhood on punk rock and HÜsker DÜ in particular (like myself) went into high expectation mode. Copper Blue turned out to be a distillation of Bob's pop mode and roaring guitar mode into one tightly wound explosion of sound. There was space enough for the songs to breathe, but a driving urgency & energy in the rhythm section of Barbe & Travis that gives the whole album a barely-harnessed feel. Sonically, on songs like "The Act We Act" (Copper Blue), "JC Auto" (Beaster) & "Gee Angel" (F.U.E.L.) Sugar took HÜsker DÜ's aesthetic widescreen, the center held steady by Bob's focused songwriting. It's kind of incredible what Sugar did within such a small discography; there's no wasted space and the flow of great songs is a surprising, exciting listen 20 years later."- Mac McCaughan of Superchunk & Merge

    Copper Blue / Beaster

This 2LP vinyl reissue of Sugar's classic albums Copper Blue (1992) and Beaster (1993) from Merge features both albums with a coupon included for full download of the records, B-sides and a complete 1992 live show. Gatefold vinyl with printed Euro sleeves.

Sugar's 1992 debut album Copper Blue sold over 250,000 units upon its original release and received overwhelming praise. Rolling Stone christened it "thunderous"; Vogue dubbed it "smashing." NME would ultimately name it their 1992 Album of the Year. Currently, Mould has been commemorating Copper Blue's 20th anniversary by playing the record in its entirety with his current band of Jason Narducy (bass) and Jon Wurster (drums).

Recorded and mixed during the same intense sessions that produced Copper Blue, the Beaster EP was originally released in April 1993. Notably darker in tone than the widescreen power-pop of Copper Blue, Beaster nevertheless boasts some of Mould's most powerful songwriting.

"When word went around that Bob Mould had a new band, not only a 'band' band (as opposed to hired band to play his solo albums on tour) but also a trio, of course anyone raised from teenhood on punk rock and HÜsker DÜ in particular (like myself) went into high expectation mode. Beauty & Ruin

"It's a song cycle. A narrative. It's nobody's story but my own I ran so
fast from my past that I caught up with myself. This album is
acknowledging that and dealing with every year getting a little tougher."

Bob Mould's new album Beauty & Ruin is a twelve-track journey of loss,
reflection, conciliation, and coming through the other side. It may very well
be the most epic emotional roller coaster ever pressed into 36 minutes.

Well into his fourth decade as a singer-songwriter, Mould is as relevant,
ferocious, and poignant as he has ever been. Much of Beauty & Ruin deals
with the passing of Mould's father in October 2012, Bob's struggle to come
to terms with it, himself, and his own identity and legacy, and repercussions
of all of the above on his ongoing relationships in the land of the living.
Beauty & Ruin is a challenging work of raw beauty-and may well be Bob
Mould's finest work since his 1989 solo debut, Workbook.

Bob Mould's journey as singer-songwriter, guitarist, author, DJ, and all-around
MVP began in 1979 with the formation of HÜsker DÜ. In 1988, Mould began
the first part of a solo career producing the aforementioned Workbook and the
heavy Black Sheets of Rain. In 1992, Bob gave the world Sugar, a reimagined
power trio that toured the globe and produced two albums and an EP: Copper
Blue, Beaster, and File Under: Easy Listening. From these releases came a cache
of songs-"Helpless," "Hoover Dam," "If I Can't Change Your Mind,"
"Your Favorite Thing"-that remain staples of Bob's live shows to this day.

In fall 2012, Bob gave the world Silver Age, his debut album for Merge
Records and the first to feature current bandmates Jason Narducy and Jon
Wurster. The subsequent touring covered four continents, ending in October
2013 in South America. Beauty & Ruin is in large part the sound of this band,
on the road relentlessly, congealing into the tightest unit to surround Bob
in his storied career. Two days after returning from South America, the trio
reconvened in Chicago to begin the recording of Beauty & Ruin. The
October 2013 session at Steve Albini's famed studio complex Electrical Audio
consisted of nine days of band tracking and five days of layering guitars. The
following month, Bob returned to Different Fur Studios in his hometown of
San Francisco to finish lyrics for six songs, add vocals, and mix the album.

Beauty & Ruin is a product of a survivor who refuses to give up, thrives
through his work, and subsequently embraces the many changes around and
within himself. Bob smartly declares the album as "yet another bonus round,
    and I am very grateful."

    Life And Times

30 years since the formation of Husker Du and 20 years since their explosive demise and the subsequent release of his first lauded solo effort Workbook, called a masterpiece by critics, Bob Mould is marking anniversaries with an album filled with self-reflection and an unflinching examination of the world around him. Standouts like Wasted World and I'm Sorry Baby, But You Can't Stand in My Light Anymore highlight an artist completing a cycle decades in the making, his talent undiminished, his perspective acute.

Bob Mould is one of the most influential musicians of the alternative rock era, first for his early work with post-punks Husker Du, followed by the college-rock-defining pop of Sugar and finally for his solo albums, notably his first, Workbook, which quieted Mould's previous ire to reveal his fine songwriting in a new light and allowed an introspective glimpse into the inner workings of an evolving artist. With Life and Times, Mould comes full circle, reclaiming his indie songwriting mantle from the generation of musicians he inspired.

    The Argument

As founder and half of the songwriting engine that drove the mighty HÜsker DÜ to his maverick solo work (has there ever been a portrait of a breakup as evocative yet anthemic as "2541"?), Grant Hart has cut a singular path across the last three decades of music. It is with great confidence that we say he has made an album to rival his greatest achievements. A double album based on John Milton's epic Paradise Lost, Hart distills its essence into pop and rock concoctions that nimbly flit through the history of 20th century music from Irving Berlin and David Bowie to... HÜsker DÜ, even. Ambition is the topic and Hell is the location for this project that is ambitious as Hell. Does he pull it off? We say yes!

Although lines from the poem are rarely quoted directly, all of the menace, pain and devotion of Milton's best loved work are here found. But where
Milton's poem was unadorned by rhyme, The Argument contain many complex couplets, especially the title track, in which not only the ends of lines rhyme, but the word that ends a phrase is the same as the first line of the phrase after it, all while conforming to the original ten syllable structure devised by Milton. Anyone who has ever had a conversation with Grant knows how patiently he chooses the words he uses.

While visiting James Grauerholz, former friend and secretary for William S. Burroughs, James showed Grant an unpublished manuscript for Lost Paradise,
William's science fiction story which portrays the fallen angels as men from distant planets and God as none other than fellow Missourian Harry S. Truman.
James and Grant discussed adding music to William's story much in the same way that Tom Waits and William conspired to turn the German folk tale Die
Freishutz into The Black Rider as staged by Robert Wilson.

From that point the seed had been planted, and the seed grew into the most beautiful tree in the garden of Grant's career!

Domino invite you to taste the fruit of this tree, go ahead, taste it.

After a self-prescribed hiatus, 2012 saw Prong blow the hinges off the door with the release of "Carved Into Stone". Seemingly out of nowhere, Tommy Victor and company managed to combine all the previous elements of the band's formula: thrash, hard-core, industrial metal, etc. with a new urgency and angst that struck a deep nerve with the band's loyal fan-base and beyond.

The band marched onwards with 2014's highly acclaimed "Ruining Lives" which spawned a number of instant classics. "Turno-ver", The Barriers" and the title track became staples in their live set when embarking on a bone breaking schedule of concerts around the world in support of the record. A video for Remove, Separate Self" was released creating even more interest in this significant recording.

Recorded over the summer of 2014 and released in early 2015, Prong's cover album "Songs From The Black Hole" was loved by fans and critics alike. Always game to make the unexpected move, the album featured songs from artists as diverse as HÜsker DÜ, The Bad Brains, Black Flag, The Sisters Of Mercy and Neil Young.

After yet another headline tour, it was straight back to the studio for another studio album. Just days after mixing was completed, PRONG went on the road with Danzig and SuperJoint Ritual in North America and released the first single "Ultimate Authority" on the day the tour began.

"X - No Absolutes" is Prong at their very best. The sheer intensity and ferocity of the albums opening triumvirate "Ultimate Authority", "Sense Of Ease" and "Without Words" leaves the listener gasping for air. The title track is crunchy and catchy at the same time. "Do Nothing" may be as close as you will ever hear PRONG get to a ballad and shows the enormous progress and confidence Victor has made vocally. It is hard to find a weak spot here, notably Victor mentions that „sequencing the album was a difficult task; every song is so strong in it's own way".

Again produced by Tommy Victor, this time with trusted collaborator Chris Collier as co-producer and engineer, "X - No Absolutes" also broadens the horizon sonically.

    The Hot Rock

"Sleater-Kinney is America's best rock band" - Greil Marcus, Time (2001)

Sleater-Kinney is an acclaimed, American rock band that formed in
Olympia, Washington in 1994. The band's core lineup consists of Corin
Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), and
Janet Weiss (drums). Sleater-Kinney were known for their feminist,
left-leaning politics, and were an integral part of the riot grrrl and indie
rock scenes in the Pacific Northwest.

The Hot Rock is the fourth studio album by Sleater-Kinney, originally
released on February 23, 1999 by Kill Rock Stars. It was produced by
Roger Moutenot and recorded at Avast studio in Seattle, Washington in
    July 1998.

The Hot Rock reached number 181 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart
and number 12 on the Heatseekers Albums chart, becoming the first
Sleater-Kinney album to enter the charts. The Hot Rock appeared at
number 23 in The Village Voice's "Pazz & Jop" critics' poll for 1999.
Similarly, Spin placed The Hot Rock at number 18 in its list of The Top
20 Albums of 1999. In 2002, Rolling Stone ranked the album at
number 17 on its list of Women in Rock: The 50 Essential Albums.
"The expansive new sound gives Sleater-Kinney room to experiment
with their Husker Du-style storytelling... They've earned the right to keep
reinventing themselves. - Rob Sheffield, Rolling Stone

Tucker explores what her voice can do when it's not in overdrive,
stretching vowels like a religious supplicant or spewing prosody like Patti
Smith. At the same time, Brownstein blossoms as a singer herself [...]
braiding lines with Tucker so artfully the result sounds like the voicings
of a single restless mind. [Grade: A] - Will Hermes, Entertainment
    Weekly.

The album has been freshly remastered by Greg Calbi for this release.
This reissue coincides with Sub Pop's release of
remastered versions of Sleater-Kinney's six other albums, as well as a

The second record from these Brooklyn noise-punks expands on the soaring melodies and cracked electronics of 2006's "Stay Afraid", exploring a wider array of berserk, malfunctioning instruments and intricate, pummeling rhythms. District Line

Guitarist/singer/songwriter Mould returns to form as a solo artist on his Anti debut. District Line combines the fire of his earliest work in Husker Du, the accessibility of his alternative rock, genre-defining trio Sugar, and the introspection found in his solo releases. He describes it as stories of my simple life in a complicated town, that being his adopted city of Washington, DC. Working with Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, Mould has returned to the live band sound of Husker Du and Sugar to kick out ten songs that sound as youthful, energized, and immediate as anything he has ever recorded. This is a full on rock 'n' roll record, featuring members of Fugazi, and will appeal to fans of that band, as well as new fans raised on Alkaline Trio and Against Me.

    Silver Age

Those familiar with the decades-spanning oeuvre of Bob Mould, from his pioneering early '80s work with HÜsker DÜ to his solo work in singer/songwriter, electronic, and rock modes, to the deafening pop sparkle of Sugar, might expect a new album bearing the title Silver Age to be a somber and reflective set in the mode of his last album, 2009's Life and Times and they'd be way off the mark.

The new record features Bob's current band which includes drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk) and bassist Jason Narducy (Verbow, Split Single), on 10 brand-new Mould compositions in the punishingly loud, melodically sparkling pop/rock vein of the Sugar catalog and the intensity of his latter-day HÜsker DÜ output.

"I'd been batting around the idea of another aggressive pop record for some time," Bob says, "especially as the 20th anniversary of Copper Blue kept getting closer. It's no surprise, then, that Silver Age careens out of the speakers with a sense of exhilaration that reflects the excitement with which Bob and his live band cranked out the record in a tight whirlwind of a window in early 2012.

    The Precious Prize Of Gravity

After four years, this husband-and-wife punk rock power couple of Giovanna Cacciola and Agostino Tilotta reunite with bassist Matthew Taylor and drummer Alexis Fleisig (Girls Against Boys) to unleash their third and most thunderous album. Recorded as always with long-time collaborator Steve Albini. Tilotta wraps a hundred notes per minute around the towering, sturdy rhythm section while Cacciola's poetic lyrics and smoky melodies alternately recall Grace Slick and PJ Harvey. Lyrically, this is their darkest album yet, but the songs are more complex, with a driving, X-inspired cow punk vibe. RIYL: The Jesus Lizard, X, Husker Du, Girls Against Boys, The Ex, PJ Harvey.

    Sweet Time

Formed in 2005 by guitarists and singers Brian Vanderwerf and Jesse Tomlinson, from Twin City contenders the Midnight Evils, as a rollicking but conventional two guitars/bass/and drums lineup, Chooglin' made their offical debut in November of 2005, opening up for Reigning Sound and the Detroit Cobras. The full Chooglin' line-up now consists of Vanderwerf and Tomlinson on guitar and vocals, bassist Paul Diorio, drummer Shawn Walker, trombonists Harold Longley, Steve Erickson and Zach Zins, and trumpet player Bob DeBoer.

Discovered by Big Legal Mess while playing a show with Fat Possum artists Hezekiah Early and Elmo Williams during the Deep Blues Festival, Chooglin' recorded Sweet Time at Minneapolis' legendary Creation Studios, home of everything from the Trashmen's Surfin Bird and Davd Dudley's Six Days on the Road to the Replacements' Tim and several Husker Du records. With a bleating horn section and ferocious guitar playing, the band is a boogie-rock juggernaut that has the guts and the skills to deliver greasy, proto-Stax soul with as much power and conviction as their relentless, riff-driven rockers.

Grant Hart's first solo album of the 21st century is one of the best things he has ever done. The former Husker Du drummer and co-songwriter worked with the diverse cast of musicians from Godspeed You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion on this new LP, Hot Wax, recorded in Montreal and Minneapolis. Grant on some of the some of the songs: the song Narcissus, Narcissus is my first attempt at combining ancient Greek mythology and American rock-a-billy. By merging those influences with an ice cream truck atmosphere I think I have found a style that defines this period of my career. You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water is one of the most organic rock and roll songs that I have ever written. It's style owes a lot to my devotion for patti smith. It was inspired by a comment made by a monk during the selection process to find the next Panchen Lhama, who said of one candidate, he is the reflection of the moon on the water but he is not the moon.

    Applehead Man

    Translucent Red Vinyl

When people think of the "Minneapolis sound," most ears point to Prince. But there were many other highly revered and influential bands on the scene in the '80s and '90s, Trip Shakespeare, certainly among them.

Matt Wilson and Elaine Harris met at Harvard and began playing together while Matt's hometown music scene was exploding with not only Prince, but bands like HÜsker DÜ and The Replacements. Matt asked Elaine to head back to Minneapolis with him, where they hooked up with Matt's friend, John Munson to form Trip Shakespeare.

The band became a local sensation and their debut-Applehead Man-appeared on the regional label, Gark, in 1986. Omnivore Recordings is proud to bring Trip Shakespeare back into the spotlight with a reissue of that classic debut, including seven previously unissued bonus tracks, some with Matt's brother, Grammy® winning songwriter Dan Wilson, who soon joined the band becoming the fourth member of Trip Shakespeare.

Applehead Man (co-produced by the band's John Munson) will be released in a digipak with liner notes from Jon Niccum (author of The Worst Gig), and previously unseen photos. The LP (first pressing on translucent red vinyl, with black to follow) contains the original ten tracks, liners and photos.

Trip Shakespeare would eventually be signed to A&M Records, and later, Munson and Dan Wilson would go onto form Semisonic, but the Trip truly starts at Applehead Man.

Burning Bridges To Nowhere (Awaiting Repress)

Philadelphia's Witch Hunt have joined the ranks of the Bat and offered up their 3rd & finest full-length yet! Formed in 2001 as a New Jersey trio, Witch Hunt soon moved their brand of aggressive punk to Philadelphia where they expanded their lineup to a four-piece and continued to evolve their sound as abilities caught up to ideas. That evolution is evident in their AT debut, Burning Bridges to Nowhere, which blends the primal rage of hardcore, the melodic-sense of Husker Du, and the moodiness of UK peace-punk into an album that will leave genre-purists scratching their heads and (hopefully) have ALL fans of hardcore-punk walking and/or rocking together a little more often!

Fans of AT's BlackNoise imprint and groups like I OBJECT and NAUSEA and even DISASTER STRIKES will love this, but anyone into melodic punk with screaming female vocals will also dig this! The LP has an insert & a printed inside dust jacket, and the CD is a handsome multipanel digipack!

    White Vinyl

Re-Released For The First Time Since 1987

    Includes The Original 17"x11" Poster

Originally released in 1987 and long out of print, Cuba, from The Silos has been called:< br>
"One of the great rock albums of the late '80's, it's decidedly American, anthemic, personal car music."
    -ESQUIRE MAGAZINE.

The Silos formed in New York in 1985 and Cuba, their second album, is not only The Silos‚' definitive recording,
but one that stands out amid a period of extraordinary creativity among American underground
rock bands at the time such as R.E.M., the Replacements and HÜsker DÜ. "Tennessee Fire" is awesome
garage-rock sprawl, "Mary's Getting Married" pure bliss, and "Margaret" a disarming look at the day-to-day
    meaning of love.

"Cuba is one of those albums that, in the twenty-seven years since its release, has become a kind of talisman
among true music fans. Its mention elicits nods of approval and agreement from like-minded souls, and
kicks the next phase of the conversation into enthusiastic high gear. When you meet people of taste who
are unfamiliar with it, the prospect of turning them onto it becomes a palpable pleasure. Because you know
that Cuba exists inside everyone, and this extraordinary album can take you there. It's a journey filled
with longing and loss, warmth and wonder and whether everything happens for a reason or not,
albums like this are a document, a memory map, of why we want to think so."

    Good News For Modern Man

First Time On Vinyl For This 1999 Solo Album From Ex Husker Du Drummer/songwriter!

No one has to ask what the hell happened to Grant Hart? anymore. When last heard from in 1994, he was releasing his second LP with Nova Mob. His absence since was perhaps atypical, but here he is again, resuming his solo career for the first time in ten years. The good news is that Good News doesn't sound like Nova Mob or 1991's visceral Last Days of Pompeii, nor does it repeat his more introspective 1989 solo LP Intolerance or 1988's accomplished 2541 EP. Production-wise, this is the most pleasant Hart has come across. A sugar rush is added to his pronounced hooks, adding warmth without robbing the attack of vitality. It's hard to describe -- the first thought might be the exuberance of Cheap Trick on Surrender, only not so thumping. Songs such as Nobody Rides for Free and Seka Knows are not traditional power pop as much as vaguely restrained, crunchy-under-the-surface melodic rock songs with slight '60s influence. This steady, understated exhilaration is consistent with Hart's affable personality. You see it most on the lightest selection, Run Run Run to the Centre Pompidou, a jaunty pop romp to nowhere in gay Paris. But it's just as prevalent in the slower, demure tracks such as You Don't Have to Tell Me Now and, most unique of all, the Chills-like New Zealand hush of Teeny's Hair. Hart's control now is as impressive as when he was contrarily blistering the night with such incredible intensity behind the drums in 1984. His best LP since he parted company with Bob Mould and Greg Norton? Very likely!
