Wolves Like Us are without a doubt one of the most exciting bands of the moment at the forefront of the burgeoning Oslo music scene. Although barely a year in, they have already established themselves on the live circuit with a showcase at last year's legendary OYA Festival and recent touring with Kvelertak, Gallows, Purified In Blood and Blood Command.

With ex-members from such notable Norwegian acts as Amulet, Infidels Forever, JR Ewing and Silver, the band is no stranger to dedicated hard work. Drawing influences from artists such as Planes Mistaken For Stars, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Water Music and the Afghan Whigs, the mission is clear: Wolves Like Us are here to purvey the urgent, powerful music they love.

Wolves Like Us signed with Prosthetic Records at the beginning of 2011 and immediately began recording Late Love in Oslo with Ruben Willem (Haust/Caliban Studios). Mastering was handled by studio maestro Dave Collins (Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction) and acclaimed illustrator Justin Bartlett (Sunn O))), Kvelertak, Anti-Sweden Jeans) beautifully crafted the artwork.

    Exister

Hot Water Music have never had a hit single or seen their faces plastered all over MTV, but over the years the act has done something far more impressive: they've achieved a lasting relevance that most of the aforementioned acts could only dream of. Since forming in the early '90s in Gainesville, Florida, Hot Water Music have released seven full-length albums, countless singles and toured with everyone from Flogging Molly to Coheed And Cambria along the way, but all of those stats are overshadowed by the fact that for nearly two decades this four-piece have stayed true to their roots, themselves and their music in the face of countless fads and generational shifts.

Hot Water Music was born in 1993 and since then the four-piece has never looked back. By combining elements of punk rock, and post-hardcore, with rock and roll, the band pioneered a unique blend of music that has set them apart as innovators of a movement that has inspired bands like Rise Against, The Gaslight Anthem, and Against Me!.

Ironically, Hot Water Music seem bigger these days then ever before. They've been able to keep all of their old fans, as well as establish a whole new generation of fans, whose enthusiasm for the band is just as strong, if not stronger. With high expectations set by critics and fans alike, Hot Water Music headed into the studio with Bill Stevenson (Rise Against, The Descendants, NOFX) to craft their highly anticipated new album Exister.

The people spoke and demanded a new Hot Water Music album, and with these 13 tracks, the band responded with their best body of work to date, cementing them as the legacy punk band with the most heart and longevity.

    Fire And Water

Free was one of the British bands that pioneered Hard Rock. Despite a short life span, they were a huge influence bands such as Bad Company and Foreigner, thanks to their style of stripped-down British Blues.

Their follow up to Free, Fire And Water, peaked at #17 in the album charts, carried by the classic Rock anthem All Right Now - which peaked at #4 in Billboard's Hot 100 in 1970. Paul Kossoff's guitar playing and Paul Rodger's incredible voice made Free one of the best bands around. Their revered legacy is justified with Music On Vinyl's 180 gram audiophile treatment.

    Stay Reckless

Austin Lucas' release of Stay Reckless marks an important moment for this young troubadour who has amassed fans from Bloomington, IN to Prague.

Inspired by X, producer Mark Nevers (Lambchop, Jason Isbell) captures an alt-country album brimming with punk rock energy and heartland earnestness. In
2007 Lucas began to entwine his punk rock nature with his bluegrass upbringing eventually collaborating and touring with Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music and traveling the country on The Warped Tour, Willie Nelson's Country Throwdown Tour and
The Revival Tour. Being raised by accomplished bluegrass musician Bob Lucas and then embarking on a stripling discovery, Austin Lucas has come full circle with Stay Reckless, a record that
embodies the work of an experienced troubadour.

WORN IN RED hail from the long-standing promised land of thick, blistering hardcore; Virginia. They share hometowns in both Richmond and Charlottesville, drinking deep from a rich history of since-fallen bands like Sleepytime Trio, Hoover, Four Hundred Years, Maximillian Colby, Action Patrol, and Frodus, while also paying tribute to contemporary titans Planes Mistaken For Stars, Glass and Ashes, and Hot Water Music. Considering how nice these guys are, they sure do yell a lot. They feel like family. Their songs gnawed their way into my brain over the last year, and being involved in this record was not an option: it became an imperative. Heavy and pummeling locks in with a melodic, open groove. Duality in tandem. Good hair too.Var / No Idea. (STREET DATE - 12/01/2009)

    Don't Be Long

There are musicians and there are artists, Make Do And Mend are artists. They
don't write songs, they craft them. Multiple hours are spent on every lyric, and
every chord progression, you can hear the passion in every song. The band's
latest effort, "Don't Be Long", is no exception. All 11 songs are hand-crafted
masterpieces. You can tell after one listen that this is a record that will stay in
your collection for years to come.

The band chose to re-enlist producers, Jay Maas and Nick Bellmore, the
dynamic duo behind the band's debut success, "End Measured Mile". The
result is something truly special. It's an album that will be treasured by fans
and critics alike for years to come. No strangers to life on the road, Make Do
And Mend have toured with Hot Water Music, The Wonder Years, and Senses
Fail and, like always, the band is prepared to spend all year supporting this
    album on the road.

Make Do And Mend's live show is the ace up their sleeve, they connect with
their audience in a way that most bands aspire too. Every word is screamed
back at them, every bass drum hit is felt in the heart, and it's clear that there's
nowhere else anyone would rather be. Make Do And Mend isn't a band, they
are an experience, and "Don't Be Long" promises not to disappoint.

    Inviting Light

    Pressed On Colored Vinyl

Every now and then a band comes along and speaks to the hearts of adolescents everywhere, as the true voice of their community. In the punk rock community, The Flatliners are that band right now. Their anthemic punk rock classics quickly catapulted them to the top of the scene, and the bands who inspired them quickly became their peers. In an age when overnight internet sensations are an everyday occurrence, it's hard to find a band that's grown organically, using word of mouth and non-stop touring to win fans over one show at a time.

Since 2002, The Flatliners have been busy touring the world over with the likes of NOFX, Bad Religion, Pennywise and Hot Water Music, as well as multiple stints on the Vans Warped Tour. "Inviting Light" is the band's 5th full-length album and is easily the band's strongest material to date. "Inviting Light" includes 12 melodic, catchy songs that will stay stuck in your head for months to come. It's the band's most mature effort, as it leans more rock than punk, but it doesn't alienate the band's core audience. It showcases them at the top of their game, as true masters of their craft.

    Raise The Kids

In today's music scene, originality doesn't always seem to be the leading force. In fact, some might argue that many of the most successful current bands are simply breathing new life into the aesthetics of decades past. So when a band surfaces defying easy classification, their existence becomes a noteworthy matter. Brooklyn, New York's UnWed are just such a band. Although their members have made names for themselves for nearly 20 years in other musical endeavors (Hot Water Music, Small Brown Bike, Primitive Weapons, Gay For Johnny Depp, Errortype:11, etc), UnWed reaches far beyond anything in their combined history. Instead, the band bring their punk and indie roots to the table, amalgamating these influences with more traditionally heavy rock elements to create their unique sound. Add to the mix vocals provided by their powerful female singer and the overall result is undeniably interesting.

Following the release of their debut EP via No Idea Records, UnWed set out to write and record their first proper full length. The quintet teamed with an accomplished group of engineers, including Paul Leavitt, Ryan Jones, Brian McTernan, Will Beasley, and Travis Bacon, each with considerable resumes of their own. The end result, entitled Raise The Kids, captures a band bridging the gaps between hard rock, anthemic punk, and alternative with splendid precision.

    Burgers (Speakers Corner)

The exploration of psychedelic depths did not appear to suffice the founders of Jefferson Airplane - Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady - when searching for their musical salvation. So why not amalgamate their hippy-like simple lifestyle and folksy music with the formation of a second band called Hot Tuna, emotional yet not so synthetically hotted-up? Even in the very first number, True Religion, whose airy, bubbling folksy finger-picking soars up into powerful waves of rock, the message of this first studio album comes over loud and clear. Growling bass melodies and the representation of a life on the road (Keep On Truckin') conjure up a down-to-earth country feeling, with an off-key fiddle tune (Let Us Get Together Right Down Here) accentuating the rough yet cordial get-together. The purely instrumental Water Song is a stroke of genius - this humming, buzzing guitar mix doesn't only demonstrate the players' instrumental dexterity but also their keen sense of melody and ear for sound colouring. No matter whether gruff Hillbilly, cool blues rocker, or square and nostalgic former hippy - they'll all love this album. Just think: for whom else does Hot Tuna still go on tour ...?

    Musicians:

    • Jorma Kaukonen (guitar, vocal)

    • Jack Casady (bass, vocal)

    • Papa John Creach (violin, vocal)

    • Sammy Piazza (drums, percussion, vocal)

    • Nikki Buck (organ, piano)

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Solid Gravy!

Second album from one of the hottest garage rock''n'roll acts in London, setting clubs alight with their own red hot take on "the music the Sonics were listening to". Having spent a good year or more honing their set and finding out which songs make the girls dance (ie. all of them!), their debut LP, Music for Chicken, cemented the globe-spanning gang as the finest purveyors of Pacific Northwest rhythm and blues in the land. With new bassist Fernando on board, MFC Chicken have continued touring the world and found time to knock out a brand new album that is EVEN better than their debut.

    Johnny Throttle

Formed by ex-Parkinsons frontman Afonso and including former members of Menace, The Shakin Nasties, the Jackoffs, the Chinese Lungs, the Stains and Urban Shocks, Johnny Throttle have been playing drunken, beer-soaked gigs since the tail end of 2008. They play snotty, moronic and straight-to-the-point gonzo-garage punk rock, banging out furious 20-minute sets of short and catchy songs that bring to mind something like Slaughter and the Dogs meets the Electric Eels. This is probably Londons best punk rock band, and definitely the snottiest.

Their debut release, Stukas Über Shoreditch, which came out on Wrench Records, was a two-fingered salute and a spit in the eye. After a second 45 on the legendary Crypt Records, its now time for their first full length offering which is a similarly abrasive kick to the head, a blistering, full-on, spiked slab of rampant frenzy, replete with 100mph serrating riffs, like a seriously wired Dead Boys having a party with The Stooges whilst the pub rock honk of Eddie & the Hot Rods unsuccessfully tries to calm things down.

Like the best bands of the '70s punk era, Johnny Throttle are hugely influenced by the '60s garage bands, and were regulars in the audience, and on the stage, at the old Dirty Water Club during the last decade. But the main thing to them is that the music has to be sharp as a dagger, threatening but also beautiful. The 12 tracks on their self-titled debut are inspired mini-operas, played with the kind of near incompetent teenage enthusiasm which only borderline middle-aged, lowlifes, has-beens and never-weres can truly muster.

    Solarispellis

A playful electronic musical journey evocative of Eno's Music For Films, Oneohtrix Point Never, 8-bit soundtracks and prog-infused 70s synth epics; but executed with a rigorous conceptual framework worthy of John Cage or the radical film experiments of Lars Von Trier. Solarispellis is the follow up to Arandel's 2010 debut album In D and similarly continues to be entirely in his signature key (a nod to minimalist godfather Terry Riley). From woozy electronica to emotive techno and the most vertiginous krautrock - the tempos, Moods and subjects are intertwined, covering an array of musical territories despite the uniformity of the tonic note and chord. There is a paradox to the the intricate beauty of Solarispellis; an almost symphonic album recorded in the living room of a small apartment. The sounds suggest harpsichord, piano, organ or drops of water on a hot tin roof although almost every sound you hear was synthesized. There's a scholarly approach to the music but it does not require any effort on the audience's part.

    PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone

As one of the world's most respected guitarists in one of rock's most commercially successful bands, John Frusciante seemingly had it all figured out. So when the famed alternative guitar guru opted out of his second stint as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2009, many racked their brains for an explanation. But listening to PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone, it's clear that Frusciante had an itch that the Peppers couldn't scratch. A record as sprawling, layered, and flat-out bizarre as its title would suggest, reveling instead in an eclectic mix of electronica, funk, free jazz, and krautrock.

The record's break from the Peppers' funk rock formula shouldn't come as a complete surprise to those familiar with Frusciante's past solo efforts, which have always been hard to categorize. Some, like 2004s Ian MacKaye-produced DC EP, keep things on a straight and narrow pop rock path, while others, like 2001s To Record Only Water For Ten Days, are more enigmatic. But even with that caveat, PBX is Frusciante's most challenging and niche effort to date. "Bike", with its Buddy Rich-on-crank drum intro and skittering Pro Tools backbeat, sounds like a sonic freak-out from the year 2036, whereas "Ratisug" works its way back toward center while preserving the record's heavy electronic lean.

The LP is anything but even-keeled, and the music constantly changes course, often within the same song. But with repeated listens, that quickly becomes part of its zonked-out charm. PBX is a record strung out on big, sometimes half-baked ideas and lots of lofty ambition, and fortunately Frusciante has accrued enough good will for listeners to let him off the leash some. It hits (it's hard to listen to the beginning of "Mistakes" without thinking of that A-Ha video from 1987) and it misses ("Uprane?" Good God, what's happening?), but still it keeps the air underneath its wings. If Frusciante had to bail on his Peppers gig to find inspiration, at least the result tickles the eardrums in some unexpected ways.

    The Order Of Time

Valerie June's highly anticipated second album, The Order of Time, is set for release via Concord Records. On this enthralling and illuminating leap forward, the Tennessee-bred, Brooklyn-based songwriter weaves electric blues, African rhythms, cosmic atmospherics and delicate soul into an inventive and wholly original rumination on love, family, struggle and the passing of time. Produced by Matt Marinelli (Bad Brains), The Order of Time features twelve original songs all written by June.

Musically, June has refined and expanded her sound on the new album finding space from her previous work in its artful, self-assured restraint and overall cohesion. The collection's finely sketched character studies brim with richness and detail while June's ethereal, wide-open soundscapes provide a sterling backdrop for her remarkable Southern gospel and honey voice. Lyrical touch points such as 'dancing shadows,' 'hot suppers,' 'curious neighbors,' and 'holy water' draw the listener in and root these songs with density and weight.

The "inevitability of change" and "time as the ruler of Earth's rhythm," is the album's foundation, explains June. "And the knowledge that with resilience and faith things can work out."

"Long Lonely Road" is a reflective and somber lament as June's voice reverberates over ringing guitar and unhurried drums, whereas the entrancing blues of "If And" internalizes regret in the face of time's relentless churn. On the spiritual "Astral Plane," June's mystical vocal takes an otherworldly turn, whereas the sumptuous string arrangement on "With You," is reminiscent of Nico's most affecting work. Norah Jones adds her distinctive vocals to three tracks and "Shake Down" sparkles with background vocal contributions from her father, Emerson Hockett and brothers, Patrick and Jason Hockett.

The Order of Time follows June's 2013 breakout LP, Pushin' Against a Stone that established her as one of America's "most intriguing, fully formed new talents" according to the New York Times. She garnered praise from NPR, "a singular performer" and New York Magazine, "a powerful singer and a blunt, bruising songwriter." June also made memorable appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, CBS Saturday Morning, Rachael Ray, and Austin City Limits. She has toured with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Sturgill Simpson, and performed at Newport Folk Festival, Carnegie Hall, and much more.

Belly of the Sun (Pure Pleasure)

Cassandra Wilson continues to move down a highly eclectic path on Belly Of The Sun, the somewhat belated follow-up to Traveling Miles. While displaying a jazz singer's mastery of melodic nuance and improvisatory phrasing, Wilson draws on a variety of non-jazz idioms -- roots music, rock, Delta blues, country, soul -- to create a kind of earthy, intelligent pop with obvious crossover appeal. Her core band includes guitarists Marvin Sewell and Kevin Breit, who blend marvelously, Sewell mostly on mellow acoustic and Breit adding atmospheric touches on electric, 12-string, and slide guitars, as well as mandolin, banjo, and even bouzouki. Bassist Mark Peterson and percussionists Jeffrey Haynes and Cyro Baptista provide a superbly sensitive rhythmic foundation. But because Wilson returned to her home state of Mississippi to record most of this album, she made sure to book some time with local musicians. Thus guitarist Jesse Robinson guests on (and co-writes) the funky Show Me a Love, and the octogenarian pianist Boogaloo Ames plays an unpolished yet utterly heartfelt duet with Wilson on the classic Darkness on the Delta. Other guests include drummer Xavyon Jamison, trumpeter Olu Dara, pianist and vocalist Rhonda Richmond (who penned the slowly swaying Road So Clear), guitarist Richard Johnston, backup vocalists Patrice Monell, Jewell Bass, Henry Rhodes, and Vasti Jackson, and the children of New York's Middle School 44. Wilson delves into vintage blues with Mississippi Fred McDowell's You Gotta Move and a brief yet dynamic rendition of Robert Johnson's Hot Tamales. But the best tracks are the rock/pop covers: the Band's The Weight, Bob Dylan's Shelter From the Storm, James Taylor's Only a Dream in Rio, Jobim's Waters of March, and Jimmy Webb's Wichita Lineman (a 1968 hit for Glen Campbell). Wilson and band are in peak interpretive form on these ethereal reinventions. While her own lyrics may not rise to the level of a Robbie Robertson or a Bob Dylan, her versatility and focus come through clearly on the originals Justice, Just a Parade (a collaboration with neo-soul rookie India.Arie), and the Caribbean-tinged Cooter Brown.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
