Hitchhiker (Pre-Order)Neil Young will release a new studio album - which he originally recorded in 1976. The disc, dubbed Hitchhiker, is set for release via Reprise Records.
The 10-track acoustic album was recorded live in the studio August 11, 1976, at Indigo Studios in Malibu, California. It contains some of Young's best-loved songs plus two previously unreleased tracks.
The original session was produced by Young's longtime studio collaborator David Brings with new post production by John Hanlon, who has worked with Young since 1990 and produced his most recent works, including Peace Trail, Earth, The Monsanto Years, etc.
As these songs were recorded in a single session, the resultant performances are breathtaking and passionate. The simplicity of a single voice and guitar captured here are as pure and powerful as the creator intended with only Young and Briggs in the room at the time of recording.
Many of the songs would not appear on vinyl until years later. The title track, for example, did not officially appear until 2010's Le Noise and naturally sounds worlds apart from the original. The version herein of "Captain Kennedy" has certain raw spontaneity compared to the slightly gentler version that would eventually surface on Hawks & Doves in 1980.
Perhaps the most noticeable jewels in the crown of Hitchhiker are the two previously unreleased tracks that have remained in the vaults since 1976: "Hawaii" a soaring ballad and unlike anything else Young had recorded at the time. Side one closes out with "Give Me Strength," which would be occasionally performed live in the mid-Seventies but now available here for the first time and may well be considered one of Young's best long lost gems.1. Hitchhike To Rhome
Old 97's Classic Debut Gets An Expanded 20th Anniversary Reissue!
Translucent Orange 2-LP
The Old 97's burst onto the alt-country scene in 1994 with their
debut, Hitchhike To Rhome. To celebrate this anniversary, Omnivore
Recordings is proud to reissue Hitchhike with an expanded release -for the first time-on double LP!
When band member, and set co-producer, Ken Bethea was revisiting
the original tapes for this reissue, he discovered a whopping eight
extra tracks cut at the album sessions-many of which the band hadn't
even remembered recording. It seemed the perfect time and place
to bring those previously unissued songs to light and add the tracks
from their fi rst four song demo cassette to round out the early
picture of the 97's.
The double LP (limited edition first pressing on translucent orange vinyl) features the LP on 3 sides with
6 of the recently unearthed tracks on the 4th. It also includes rare photos, memorabilia and notes from Bethea.1. St. Ignatius

BBC The Radiophonic Workshop
180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl
Available On Vinyl For The 1st Time
The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, set up in 1958, was originally created as a sound effects unit for BBC Radio and TV programs. Pioneering new forms of drama during the late 1950s and early 60s demanded innovative and original use ofmusic and sound. The art of what became known as sounddesign began in the cramped undergroundstudiosof the Radiophonic Workshop at the BBC Maida Vale complex in London. Their early explorations into sound drew on the principles of musique concrete, early tape manipulation techniques and primitive oscillators and tone circuits built by technicians at the workshop. As technology developed and the synthesizer, tape technology, computers and early digital sampling emerged the Radiophonic Workshop maintained an their position at the leading edge of electronic music and sound design.
The vast body of work that emerged between 1960 and 1997 has influenced generations of musicians both within electronica and more widely in the Rock, Progressive and Pop field. Groundbreaking work such as Delia' Darbyshire's 1963 Doctor Who Theme (still the high water mark of experimental music), sound effects albums, works of early electronica and popular favourites such as Blake's 7 and The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy have ensured the RWS a place at electronica's top table. From the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Vangelis to Orbital, The Chemical Brothers and beyond, their legacy lives on in the sounds and textures of so much contemporary music. But it isn't just musicians who have drawn on their work.
The technical development of the studio and modern recording techniques owes them a great debt too. Sound engineer Roger Mayer, who supplied effects pedals to Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix, is just one of many engineers for whom their work proved inspirational. He described the Workshop as, ''the great unsung heroes of British electronica.''
These two records, recorded in 1968 and 1975 respectively, were released at the height of The Radiophonic Workshop's influence. They showcase the dawning of processed sound, treated sounds and sound design.
Quirky and irreverent BBC Radiophonic Music was originally put out as a specialist demonstration library disc for BBC drama producers. In 1971 the BBC released it commercially. This is the first time it has been made available on vinyl in its first and original form.
The Radiophonic Workshop from 1975 was a compilation of the best-known of the Radiophonic Workshop's output to date. This is the first time it has seen a vinyl reissue in its original form.
Both albums have been remastered for vinyl from the original tapes by the Radiophonic Workshop's archivist Mark Ayres. Pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.1. Malcolm Clarke - La Grande Pièce De La Foire De La Rue Delaware

Too Far To CarePressed On 180-Gram Audiophile Vinyl
The Old 97's are an alternative country/rock band from Dallas, Texas formed in 1993.
They are recognized as pioneers of the alt-country movement during the mid to late 90s along with bands such as Uncle Tupelo, Drive-By Truckers, Whiskeytown, The Jayhawks, and The Bottle Rockets.
Too Far To Care is the third studio album by the band, originally released in 1997. The album's title comes from the song Streets of Where I'm From.
Lyrically the band's constant touring is evident in songs like Barrier Reef (with references to Chicago), Broadway (in New York City), and Niteclub (inspired, according to the band, by clubs in Cleveland, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan).
Four Leaf Clover was originally recorded on Hitchhike To Rhome, the first Old 97's album. Rhett (vocals/guitar) was searching for a duet to record with friend Exene Cervenka and had started work on an old-fashioned duet that I thought we might sing, but Exene proclaimed it 'too pretty'. That song later became Fireflies. Instead, Exene sang on Four Leaf Clover, replacing the lyric nothing to impress you with nothing to attract you which Rhett found much sexier.1. Timebomb

Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues (Jazz Poetry SuperJam #3)
180 Gram LP Reissued On White Vinyl In A Limited Edition Of 500
Curated, Analogue Mastered And Cut At Gearbox Studio
Michael Horovitz brings his Jazz-Folk-Rock-Poetry SuperJam movement forward to the present day. On this 2013 studio recording of Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues, an effervescent improvisatory poem-sequence which he wrote for Paul Weller, he is accompanied by three of the UK's most popular musicians - Weller himself, Graham Coxon & Damon Albarn.
The record was recorded at Weller's Black Barn Studio and Albarn's Studio 13, and mixed at Studio 13, and originally released for Record Store Day 2013 alongside the accompanying Gearbox Records releases 'Ballade Of The Nocturnal Commune' (Jazz Poetry SuperJam #2) and the 2 LP box set 'Blues For The Hitchhiking Dead' (Jazz Poetry SuperJam #1).
Paul Weller found that: ...It was my absolute pleasure to work in these recordings with Michael. Damon and Graham. I am a big fan of all three of these artists and just to be so free with all the music and ideas was a real buzz. A lot of fun and no egos in the way. Fabulous. The end results are amongst some of the best new things I've ever worked on.

Lucky Strikes & Liquid GoldTen road-weary tales from the wrong side of outlaw country. Jeff Cowell may have huffed thesame narcotic air as Townes Van Zandt and David Allan Coe, but hunkered far from the Nashville city limits, nary a Cash or Paycheck would drunkenly slur through his tunes. Recorded in 1975, Lucky Strikes and Liquid Gold is an
isolated, backwoods loner epic, top-loaded with odes to hitch-hiking and rambling the crumbling
Michigan countryside of Cowell's hard-drinking youth. Previously available only out of the backs
of borrowed cars, truck stops, campgrounds, and country-western bars between Algonac, Detroit,
East Lansing, Cadillac, and Manistee, this LP now finds new life in similarly detached environs: the
last remaining record stores.1. Jake Lake
