The story behind the Valve Isis
Rega's now legendary head electronics engineer Terry Bateman spent 10 years researching the concept of a CD player using valves in the output amplifier.
When it came to the inspiration for this project Terry drew on the enormous experience he gained while working with musical instrument valve amplification, which dates back to the middle part of the 1970's. Terry's concept was based on the need to have a playback chain, which is in harmony with the instruments and equipment being used.
Valves have been widely used in musical instrument and recording amplification from the 1950's to the present day, therefore it made great sense to develop a valve based CD player to match that of the signal chain found in such applications. This approach kept the circuit straightforward, this is mainly because musical instrument amplification is not excessively hindered by some of the folklore surrounding certain aspects of valve audio design. He took the approach of combining the technical and sonic attributes of valves in a differential instrumentation amplifier circuit driven from differential output DAC with a passive LC filter.
Careful choice of valves and the use of moderate levels of feedback keep the distortion at reasonable levels thus keeping the colouration to a minimum. The valve Isis became fully realised when he combined the valve project with the Wolfson high performance differential output WM8741 DAC along with the digital playback circuitry of its solid state stable mate.
The valve Isis shares the same digital and USB sections as found in the solid state version however the analogue stage is valve based with passive filtering. This stage uses two military specification triple mica 5814A (ECC82/12AU7) triodes being driven by the revolutionary Wolfson WM8741 ultra high performance digital to analogue converter.
The output buffer and transformer driver stage uses two ECC88 (6DJ8/6922) triodes. This, like its solid-state stable mate, is of an un-orthodox design. The design goal with this player was to keep away from the normal design approach of lets run it through a valve to make it sound warm, but take advantage of industrial valve circuits to make an articulate and competent valve based CD player. Careful choice has been made for every component in the digital and the analogue signal path to ensure the integrity of the signal.
Careful design of the PCB's ensures isolation of not just the digital and analogue sections, but also the motor, display and user interface processor. All sonically critical electrolytic capacitors have been by-passed with polypropylene or polyester film capacitors. In addition to this, large value electrolytic capacitors have also been by-passed with audio grade electrolytic capacitors. Power supply impedances in the digital to analogue converter are kept very low by the use of solid polymer capacitors. All power supplies utilise custom Rega K-Power smoothing capacitors, and fast diodes have been used throughout in power supply rectification.
The Isis uses enhanced and optimised control code for the control of the CD processor and user display; this will speed up the initialisation process by means of a tighter control interface between the user micro and CD processor.
The differential output of the digital to analogue converter drives a valve differential (operational) amplifier, with a very modest amount of feedback to stabilise the operating conditions. The 5814A based differential amplifier, with a solid-state current generator in its tail, takes full advantage of the differential output from the digital to analogue converter. This is followed by a passive Butterworth second order LC filter. Finally, this signal is buffered using a low anode resistance ECC88 to drive the output and balancing transformer.
In design it was felt that unnecessarily high levels of THD would unduly overwhelm the qualities of the digital stage of the Isis. The overall THD is typically 0.06% being prominently even order, where the 2nd harmonic predominates. This will give the sonic dynamics of the valves without dominating the sonic qualities of the digital section.
After many hours of tube rolling we found the 5814A differential amplifier position was best on the grounds of micro-phonics, reliable operation and sonic qualities. Both the HT & LT power supplies are fully regulated and use the same power supply parts as used in the solid state Isis. Like the solid-state analogue stage valve Isis has it's own dedicated 50VA mains transformer, ensuring galvanic isolation between the digital and analogue sections of the player.
The Isis has an isolated balanced output, and in keeping with the spirit of the valve circuit topology we have opted to use a transformer in this position. This balancing transformer is made to the same exacting standards to that found in the IOS MC amplifier.
We hope that you enjoy this product as much as we have enjoyed creating it. - Rega

When The Smoke ClearsThe group likes to rock the house and roll the heart - Billboard
It's difficult to choose a standout track, because every song is strong and catchy - Lithium Magazine
The multi-platinum Oklahoma City hard rockers Joe Blower Garvey, Mark King, Mike Rodden, and Cody Hanson - entered the studio in the spring to begin recording a brand new effort which will be co-produced by Hanson and Marshal Dutton. There are no boundaries, and every idea is going to be fair game throughout the process. Hanson says, We like to think we can do anything. We don't want to be stuck in a rut with one type of sound or formula. One song might have a country influence, while another might have a pop influence. Then, there are some heavy metal moments. We have every element covered on this record. You've got to do what's best for the song. After nearly a decade, Hinder are stronger than ever. Hanson concludes, This band was built around a strong core of hard work and friendship. Like it or not, we're going to be around for a long time.1. Rather Hate Than Hurt

Library Catalog Music Series: Music For Troubled MachineryWhat started out as a total bummer--musical sketches and ideas hindered by
a conked out machine--actually turned into an album. What you are hearing
on Music for Troubled Machinery is the slow and unruly death of Leb Laze's
core production tool..the MPC 2000 (R.I.P). When this device begins to die
it randomly freezes at any given moment, often times wiping out anything
that has been created within its path. What is interesting though is when
an MPC freezes it begins to uncontrollably spit out all of the sounds that
are loaded within it in their raw and unedited form..over and over and
over. This occurrence is like nothing I have ever heard. The machine
begins to have a mind of its own.
Leb Laze began to record and embrace these freakouts, using them as a
basis for the majority of the songs on this album..adding to them,
enhancing them and/or sculpting around them. Two shorter pieces,
Revelations and Dial In/Dial Out were actually created entirely from these
freakouts. Think of this record and, most importantly, these two tracks,
as my MPC's last words--a testament to the idea that the nonliving world
is actually very much alive.1. Simple Systems Mantra - 2:32

White Worm CathedralNECROPHAGIA are back to haunt you! The masters of death metal horror invite you to bang to the Sabbath on a coffin night, when the evil priest and the rat witch raise the dead among us! Three years in the making, 'WhiteWorm Cathedral' underwent a number of setbacks which hindered the recording sessions, but the result was well worth the wait. NECROPHAGIA have generally taken another step back to a more straightforward approach. Although their latest full-length 'Deathtrip 69' (2011) was generally met with roaring applause, there has been some criticism levelled at the album. Killjoy DeSade seems to have drawn the same conclusions and reduced the atmospheric samples to the necessary, while focusing on songwriting and catchiness. Now NECROPHAGIA deliver more old school death metal with a blasphemous groove and killing hooks. The band was formed in late 1983 by the Godfather of Gore Metal, Killjoy and their debut recording 'Season of the Dead' was unleashed in February 1987. In the same year the Americans split despite their tremendous impact in the underground death metal scene, which they helped founding. In the middle of the 1990's horror fan Philip Anselmo (DOWN, ex-PANTERA) convinced Killjoy to resurrect NECROPHAGIA and joined for the next three releases including their second album 'Holocausto de la Morte' (1998). The band released two more albums including 'The Divine Art of Torture' (2003) and several EPs despite undergoing continued line-up changes. NECROPHAGIA's fourth full length 'Harvest Ritual Vol. 1' (2005) saw some experimentation, while their next eerie incarnation 'Deathtrip 69' featured more evil movie samples adding to the beloved vintage horror feeling. Yet the time has come to light those black candles, chant the incantations and watch the 'WhiteWorm Cathedral' rise! Amen, Brother Killjoy!1. Reborn Through Black Mass

ADAD-DOM-0214xLal & Mike Waterson
Bright PhoebusThe First Time This 1972 Masterpiece Has Been Widely Available On LP
Remastered From The Original Tapes
Originally released in 1972, Bright Phoebus combined the incredible songwriting of siblings Lal & Mike from folk revival group The Watersons. Moving on from, but not forgetting their folk roots, the album is a post psychedelic collection of songs recorded in a 'loose & anarchic'fashion in Cecil Sharpe House with a folk-rock super group numbering Richard Thompson,Norma Waterson, Maddy Prior, Martin Carthy & Ashley Hutchings. Its release was greeted with derision and its initial pressing of 2000 LPs has long since fallen out of print. Since then the album has become legend, its scarcity not hindering generations of music fans falling for its beguiling atmosphere.
Over the course of four decades, the only means of hearing Lal and Mike Waterson's 1972 folk noir masterpiece had been unofficial CDs, cassettes distributed between fans and, in more recent times, YouTube uploads. And yet, despite the relative obscurity of the record being celebrated, 2000 people had packed London's The Barbican to witness live performance sof these songs by an extended family of Watersons, Carthys and kindred musical spirits. Toofolk to be embraced by the rock world, yet not traditional enough for the folk clubs where performing original material was tantamount to heresy, Bright Phoebus has had to wait an awfully long time for its moment of reappraisal. Almost by stealth, however, that moment seems to have arrived. In a Mojo chart of the 50 greatest British eccentric albums of all time, the album sat proudly among household names such as Kate Bush and Pink Floyd. In 2007, Bright Phoebus was the subject of a BBC Radio 4 documentary and Lal was the subject of a tribute concert which was televised by BBC2. With every passing year, its influence on generations of musicians who had yet to be born when it was released grows ever greater.
This release will be the first time that the album will be widely available. Under the supervision of David Suff (Topic/Fledling) & Mary Waterson (daughter of Lal), the album has been remastered from the original master tapes. It's tempting to say that it was a record ahead of its time, but actually, Bright Phoebus is a record that exists outside of its time. A journey into a world where beauty and hardship are intertwined: a world of pagan sacrifice and stillborn children; a world where fairytale endings are frustrated by the demands of mere survival; where even the visiting magical man passing through the town seems to carry with him a faint air of menace.1. XVIIIEighteen Visions are back! They have returned after a 10 year hiatus, bringing with them
their explosive new offering, XVIII. While 10 years have passed since the band's last effort,
Eighteen Visions have retained their ability to craft hardcore rock anthems that are both
melodic and metal at the same time. They've picked up right where they left off, and XVIII
is proof with 10 in your face songs that are both aggressive and canorous.
Eighteen Visions were always a bit ahead of their time, but they were one of the few bands that were able to
make the jump from headlining small sweaty clubs in America to becoming a full force rock
band headlining major tours and festivals all around the world and supporting larger acts like
Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed and Cambria, Hinder, Bullet for My Valentine and HIM.
Eighteen Visions have always had a very loyal following that felt more like a family than a fan
base, which led to their global success and dominance. Because of this, Eighteen Visions' past
albums have been consumed over 200,000 times in the US alone.
Eighteen Visions didn't reunite for any reason other than their love of making music together,
and a desire to once again share their love of aggression with the world. XVIII feels like a
gift, not just to the rabid fan base the band left behind, but to the legacy they created.

Jams From The Heart (Out Of Stock)Eddie Hazel rose to fame in the early '70s as part of George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic troupe. An extremely talented and underappreciated guitarist/songwriter, Hazel had no problem nailing down Hendrix-like guitar freakouts (Maggot Brain) or nasty, straight-up funk (Loose Booty, Red Hot Mama). Although drug abuse would hinder his talents (he went to prison in the late '70s and eventually died in 1993 because of it), Hazel still came through when inspired and focused. Although he did release one official solo album in 1977 (Games, Dames & Guitar Thangs), there wasn't much material left behind where the listener could hear Hazel cut loose on guitar due to the Clinton-generated pressure to write a hit single. All of this is solved by the Jams From the Heart EP, which features some of Hazel's greatest playing ever committed to tape. The tracks are from a 1975 studio session, when he was laying down demos for his upcoming solo debut. Quite simply, Hazel rips on guitar. Smedley Smorganoff opens up with Hazel getting the feel for the other musicians, while the near 12-minute Lampoc Boogie is the near-ultimate guitar showcase for him (the above-mentioned Maggot Brain gets top honors). The gut-wrenching ballad From the Bottom of My Heart is another long track, and is the only song on the album to contain vocals. The final selection, the short Unkut Funk, features some great band interplay on a fat groove, which wraps up the EP nicely.
