    The Beatles Mono Box Set

Limited Edition 14-LP Box Set With Exclusive 108-Page Hardbound Book

The Beatles' Original Mono Studio Albums Remastered At Abbey Road Directly From The Analogue Masters For Vinyl Release By Sean Magee and Steve Berkowitz

Lacquers Cut Using Neumann VMS-80 Lathe

The Beatles in mono: This is how most listeners first heard the group in the 1960s, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary. The Beatles' nine U.K. albums, the American-compiled Magical Mystery Tour, and the Mono Masters collection of non-album tracks will be released in mono on 180-gram vinyl LPs with faithfully replicated artwork. Newly mastered from the analogue master tapes, each album will be available both individually and within a lavish, limited 14-LP boxed edition, The Beatles In Mono, which also includes a 108-page hardbound book.

In an audiophile-minded undertaking, The Beatles' acclaimed mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Sean Magee and GRAMMY®-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz. While The Beatles In Mono CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers.
Working in the same room at Abbey Road where most of The Beatles' albums were initially cut, the pair first dedicated weeks to concentrated listening, fastidiously comparing the master tapes with first pressings of the mono records made in the 1960s. Using a rigorously tested Studer A80 machine to play back the precious tapes, the new vinyl was cut on a 1980s-era VMS80 lathe.

Manufactured for the world at Optimal Media in Germany, The Beatles' albums are presented in their original glory, both sonically and in their packaging. The boxed collection's exclusive 12-inch by 12-inch hardbound book features new essays and a detailed history of the mastering process by award-winning radio producer and author Kevin Howlett. The book is illustrated with many rare studio photos of The Beatles, fascinating archive documents, and articles and advertisements sourced from 1960s publications.

Via Michael Fremer (Analog Planet) on the mastering process:

The EQ applied was based upon the original cutting engineers' notes as well as careful listening to original first lacquer, first mother, first stamper EMI pressings (-1, 1, G matrix). The cartridge used was Ortofon's 2M Black.

It's important to remember that the tapes have aged-some as much as fifty years-and the monitoring, playback and mastering equipment have changed as well, even though the work was done in the very same room in which the originals were mastered. Solid state has replaced tubes in the cutting chain.

Lacquers were cut using Abbey Road Studios' Neumann VMS-80 lathe, equipped with a Neumann SX-74 cutter head. The originals were cut on a Scully lathe, perhaps with a Westrex cutter head.

    Surfin' Safari (Mono)

33 1/3 RPM Mono Mixes Created Under Brian Wilson's Supervision

    Audio Production - Mark Linett

For Brother Records - Elliott Lott

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio, Most From The Original Master Tapes Or Best Sources Available

Lacquer Plating By Gary Salstrom And 200-Gram Vinyl Pressing By Quality Record Pressings

To meet the standards of Analogue Productions, our Beach Boys album reissues had a mission to achieve: Present the band's music the way that Brian Wilson - famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger - intended. Mono mixes created under Wilson's supervision were how the surf rockin' California crew rose to fame! And we've got 'em!

For the early part of the Beach Boys career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format - they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968. in those days, hits were made on AM radio in mono. And the mono of those times worked well for Wilson, who suffers from partial deafness. Still, apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.

Bottom line, the mono mixes were where Brian Wilson paid intense attention, and the dedication paid off!

We've taken 10 of the most classic, best-sounding Beach Boy titles ever and restored them to their mono glory!

But there's no disputing that the close harmonies and one-of-a-kind rhythms of hits like "Surfer Girl," "In My Room," "Little Deuce Coupe" and more lend themselves naturally to stereo. So we've got your 2-channel needs covered with prime stereo mix versions as well.

Mastered by Kevin Gray, most from the original master tapes, and plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings, the finest LP pressing facility in the world, these are awesome recordings to experience. And the look of each album befits its sonic superiority! Presented in old school Stoughton tip-on jackets, these time honored favorites shine brighter than the originals!

With this quiet QRP pressing of Surfin' Safari you'll enjoy the smash hit title cut as well as 409,Summertime Blues and more as the fledgling Beach Boys proudly display their garage band roots in this, their debut album for Capitol Records.

Their classic songs epitomize the spirit of the California lifestyle and The Beach Boys have become an American icon to a worldwide audience. The Beach Boys' first hit Surfin' (1961) launched a string of chart-topping songs that spans nearly forty years and includes eternal anthems of American youth: Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Fun, Fun, Fun, I Get Around, California Girls, Help Me Rhonda, Barbara Ann, Good Vibrations, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Rock and Roll Music, Kokomo and more.

Their chart success alone would have earned The Beach Boys their spot in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (they were inducted in 1988), not to mention 32 RIAA Platinum and Gold record awards and worldwide sales estimated at more than 100 million. But The Beach Boys' story is one of not only commercial but also artistic success. Their unique blend of harmonies, musical arrangements and timeless lyrics still place the music of The Beach Boys among the All-Time Favorites of today's music critics. As an example, VH-1 named Pet Sounds as the No. 3 album in the Top 100 Albums in Rock 'n' Roll History, as judged in a poll of musicians, executives and journalists. The Beach Boys were honored at the 2001 Grammy Awards, receiving The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.

    Taj Mahal (MONO) (Awaiting Repress)

Taj Mahal's 1967 album debut helped set the table for the joyous marriage of traditional blues and the revolutionary sound of '60s rock 'n' roll. Spotlighting Mahal's gritty vocals, the David Rubinson-produced album features fretboard whiz Ry Cooder along with guitarist Jesse Ed Davis, a player who loudly fused his uncanny sense of melody with a no-nonsense, electrifying delivery. Even better, our Sundazed edition is an exact repro of the ultra-scarce mono version of this landmark longplayer, taken from the pristine Columbia analog masters.

Still, apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today! was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.

The stereo editions of Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Vol. 2, All Summer Long, Beach Boys Christmas Album and Beach Boys Concert were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision.

Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions - evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own - but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market, says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist.

All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

Still, bottom line, the mono mixes were where Brian Wilson paid intense attention, and the dedication paid off!

Summer Days features another Wilson world-beater production, California Girls, and the band's second No. 1 single, Help Me, Rhonda. Ever pressured by commercial concerns, Wilson and the band created what was in essence the true follow-up to the All Summer Long album. Still, there's a level of musical sophistication to tracks such as Salt Lake City, the Phil Spector tribute Then I Kissed Her, Summer Means New Love and Let Him Run Wild.

The Times They Are A-Changin' on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram 45RPM Mono Vinyl 2LP from Mobile Fidelity

Stark, Austere, Acoustic Record Dylan's First With All-Original Material

Title Track, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, With God on Our Side Establish Dylan as Voice of Social Consciousness

The Bard Addresses Issues Such as Equality, Racism, and Poverty and Helps Ignite 1960s Political Movements

Strictly Limited to 3,000 Copies and Mastered from the Original Master Tapes, Mobile Fidelity's 45RPM Mono Vinyl Set Presents Dylan's Voice, Guitar, and Harmonica in Superlative Sound

Immediately distinguished by the direct mono sound and you're-either-with-us-or-against-us messages of the landmark title track, Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A Changin' sounds an unmistakable clarion call on behalf of progress and its unstoppable advancement. One of the Bard's trademark songs, it remains a timeless anthem with a clear sense of common purpose, a musical line in the sand that helped unite various social movements and multiple generations. The reverential 1964 record feeds off the opening tune and its unmistakable sentiments, marching forward to confront racism, poverty, injustice, and upheaval in a stark, immediate manner like few albums before or since.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's restored 45RPM analog version delivers the landscape-shifting music in reference-quality mono sound that transports you to Columbia's Studio A. Reflecting the austerity of the topics and Dylan's mood, the sonics are direct and unadorned-each word hitting with weight, each phrase lingering until it pulls you under, each storyline echoing as fact. The hollow body of Dylan's guitar, internal mechanisms of his harmonica, and graininess of his throat come across in full-on detail. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.

As the preferred mix at the time of the recording, the mono version presents Dylan as he and his producers originally intended. Since the separation of the stereo versions isn't as sharp, the mono edition places Dylan's vocals in the heart of the musical action and as one with the accompaniment. It paints listeners an incredibly accurate portrait of the attention-getting, concrete mass of sound that features no artificial panning and straight-ahead immersion into the music. This is how almost everyone first heard this timeless album-making the mono mix all the more historically valuable and truthful.

Marking a shift from the looseness and comedy that pepper the preceding The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, The Times They Are A-Changin' skirts any attempt at humor, sarcasm, or goofiness in favor of utmost seriousness and severity. Seemingly anticipating the dark events surrounding President Kennedy's assassination and the turmoil that followed, Dylan eliminates with conjecture and disguise. Akin to dispatches from the typewriter of literary icons John Steinbeck and William Faulkner, his songs give voices to the voiceless, challenge cultural precepts, upend traditional beliefs with rapier wit and truths, and underline tragedies swept under the rug.

In doing so, Dylan creates stinging protest music that rallies against unchecked authority, discrimination, brutality, and division. A testament to the power of great art, The Times They Are A-Changin' is a righteous assault on ignorance and agent for sweeping action, a necessary impetus for transformation and enlightenment. Via bold originals such as the nonfiction The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, assertive Restless Farewell, and semi-autobiographical North Country Blues, Dylan casts hardships, greed, and victimization in such relatable terms it's impossible to turn away and ignore their implications.

As correctly relayed by Dylan expert and cultural critic Greil Marcus, [The record] forever fixed Bob Dylan in the popular imagination: the protest singer, the young man 'able to see through metal' (again, from Chronicles), to see through the lie and find the truth, then to hammer the truth into words and send them out with a voice that would never break.

Celebrating six decades in the music business, this Mississippian native initially captivated millions of kids in the fifties
with his first recordings like Bo Diddley and Say Man. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar riffs and boogie beat,
filled with poetic lyrics and a thrilling presence on the stage.

Bringing his original "Bo Diddley Beat" to Chess Records in early 1955, the Chicago based label and the pioneer rocker hit
a goldmine immediately with his arsenal of tunes that he presented to Phil and Leonard Chess. A lot of these great songs became
top charting singles which culminated in his masterwork album Go! Bo Diddley.

Kicking things off with one of his finest smash hits Cracking Up, Bo roars through a treasure trove of 11 more champions
which made this one of the most important and emulated albums of all time. The album features classic gems like his classics
Dearest Darling, Say Man, Don't Let It Go and The Clock Struck Twelve. Noted for his stellar guitar work, pretty much introducing his Bo Diddley Beat riff to a whole new generation of guitar players, Go! Bo Diddley was truly a primer for a ton of rock and
blues artists for years like Eric Burdon and The Animals, George Thorogood, Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and
    The Yardbirds.

Bo Diddley opened the doors for millions of music fans around the world to enjoy rock and blues, making him along with
Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Little Richard as one of the first pioneers of the popular recording business that we all enjoy to
    this day.

Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Chess Records arsenal of fine recordings. That is why we are so
very proud to announce our first installment in The Bo Diddley/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his legendary
    masterpiece Go! Bo Diddley.

Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry) for the first time on audiophile vinyl
from the Chess monophonic tapes, Bo Diddley's Go! Bo Diddley will truly become one of the most important and historical 180
Gram Audiophile Vinyl titles in quite some time.

To further celebrate this first time audiophile vinyl LP, we enhance this limited edition masterwork with a stunning gatefold
cover featuring the original artwork elements as well as two classic rare inside gatefold photos of the man who helped start

    The Hurdy Gurdy Man

With 1968's The Hurdy Gurdy Man, Donovan delivered one of his most full-realized works, with a psychedelic/progressive edge as well as an exotic Eastern flavor that reflects the influence of his then-recent trip with the Beatles to India to study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi-an experience that helped to inspire Donovan to renounce drug use and encourage his fans to try meditation instead of chemical consumption. While the title track introduced a heavier-sounding Donovan to AM radio listeners and became one of his biggest hit singles, the smash "Jennifer Juniper" maintains his gentle, romantic side. The album's playful experimental spirit is reflected in the innovative use of drones on such tracks as "Peregrine" and "Tangier," and in the music-hall diversion of "As I Recall It," while "A Sunny Day," "The River Song" and "The Entertaining of a Shy Girl" showcase Donovan's knack for idyllic, pastoral songcraft. Sundazed's vinyl edition of The Hurdy Gurdy Man features the album's rare, much sought-after original mono mix, doing justice to the sonic presence and creative imagination of this vintage gem.

    Vincebus Eruptum

Blue Cheer looms large in the annals of hard rock, laying down the sonic foundations of heavy metal, and serving as a crucial influence on the birth of punk, grunge and stoner rock. While the rest of the rock world was mellowing out and embracing the spirit of the Summer of Love, the seminal San Francisco power trio was churning out ballsy blues-rock anthems whose fuzz-heavy, adrenaline-charged intensity helped to alter the course of contemporary music.

Vincebus Eruptum, Blue Cheers landmark 1968 debut, is widely regarded as Ground Zero of the heavy metal explosion. The album, featuring the classic Blue Cheer lineup of guitarist Leigh Stephens, bassist/vocalist Dickie Peterson and drummer Paul Whaley, includes the trios mind-melting reading of Eddie Cochrans Summertime Blues, which became a Top 20 single, along with such raw, overdriven originals as Doctor Please and Second Time Around and distinctive reworkings of the blues standards Rock Me Baby and Parchment Farm. Long out of print on vinyl, with original copies trading for steep collectors prices, this legendary debut is available once again in its original format, complete with its unique original cover design.

    Distortions

Minneapolis was their home turf. But in the decades that followed, appreciation for Distortions swelled to tidal wave proportions among fans of amped-up, ramped-up, balls-to-the-wall rock'n'roll. Headlined by two red-hot, stone-cold killers, "Action Woman" and "Soul Searchin'"-both penned by producer Warren Kendrick-Distortions is arguably the greatest private-press garage band album of the era.

The Litter formed in 1966 as a merger between two popular Twin Cities combos, the Victors and the Tabs. They quickly established a reputation as the wildest, loudest band on the scene. Bill Strandlof was responsible for the incendiary, feedback-laced guitar work on "Action Woman"-a local hit for the band when released as a single in January 1967-but by the summer he'd been replaced by another fast-fingered guitar slinger, Zippy Caplan. Caplan's fiery leads helped ignite the remainder of Distortions, including smoking interpretations of the Who's "Substitute," the Small Faces' "Whatcha Gonna Do About It," an intense reading of "Codine," and a comprehensive reconstruction-destruction of "I'm A Man."

Sundazed is thrilled to present the first-ever from-the-masters vinyl reissue of Distortions, housed in the dead-cool original artwork and pressed on 180-gram vinyl. Pure, unfiltered '60s garage rock excitement is just a needle-drop away.

    Ten Years After

A Premium RTI Pressing, From The Original U.K. Mono Masters

Ten Years After's self-titled debut hit the British blues scene with the subtlety and precision of a wrecking ball in 1967, serving notice that what had once been confined to steamy haunts in London was now there for the world to hear. And by the time the band electrified half a million hippies at Woodstock two years later, the world was roaring its approval. Cut live with vocals overdubbed later, Ten Years After is an impressive debut, showing off a tight band steeped not only in blues, but rockabilly, jazz, folk and even occasionally psychedelia. They rival Cream on a powerful cover of "Spoonful," which sports a heavy rhythm drive also evident on their extended jam version of "Help Me" that builds and builds to stratospheric heights. The latter allows Alvin Lee to cut loose with the fast licks for which he would become best known, but he was also capable of subtler, more impressionistic soloing on a stellar remake of the Blues Project's "I Can't Keep From Crying, Sometimes." If those three aren't enough evidence of the band's ability, then a spruced-up "I Want to Know," first done by Eric Clapton and the Powerhouse on the legendary What's Shakin' comp (also reissued by Sundazed), certainly seals the deal. But even at this early stage, Ten Years After was no cover act - throwing originals like the Robert Johnson-inspired "Love Until I Die," the country acoustic blues of "Don't Want You Woman" and the swingin' boogie of "Feel It for Me" into the mix. It was no one-man show, either - as organist Chick Churchill takes the lead on "Adventures of a Young Organ" and buttresses "Losing the Dogs" with some rollicking Jerry Lee Lewis piano. And beneath it all, there was the metronomic telepathy of the Ric Lee/Leo Lyons rhythm section. The best way to hear this classic album is in its punchier mono mix, available on vinyl for the first time in 50 years and faithfully packaged with all of the original iridescent psychedelic cover art intact.

Now Sundazed proudly presents the searing guitar of Alvin Lee & Chick Churchill's haunting organ textures as they were meant to be heard, from the original U.K. MONO masters and pressed on premium RTI vinyl!

Complete & Unbelievable...The Otis Redding Dictionary Of Soul

Ranked 254/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

50th Anniversary Double LP Package Includes Both Mono & Stereo Versions + Bonus 7-Inch Single

Otis Redding helped define soul music in 1966 with Complete And Unbelievable... The Otis Redding Dictionary Of Soul. The album, which peaked at #5 on the U.S. R&B charts, was once praised by critic Jon Landau as: The finest record ever to come out of Memphis and certainly the best example of modern soul ever recorded.

Redding recorded his fifth studio album, THE OTIS REDDING DICTIONARY OF SOUL, in the summer of 1966 at Stax Studios in Memphis. Together with Booker T. & the M.G.'s, pianist Isaac Hayes and the Memphis Horns, Redding recorded 12 songs for the album, including the all-time classics, Try A Little Tenderness and Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song).

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark recording, Rhino will release THE OTIS REDDING DICTIONARY OF SOUL as a double-LP set featuring both mono and stereo versions of the album, the latter of which has been out-of-print for decades. Both LPs will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl for superior audio quality. The set comes with a bonus 7 reissue of the single: Try A Little Tenderness b/w I'm Sick Y'all.

    Winds Of Change

Reeling from poor management decisions and inter-band strife, The Animals fell apart toward the end of 1966. Seeking a rebirth, lead vocalist Eric Burdon relocated from London to California. There, Burdon assembled a new Animals lineup, retaining only drummer Barry Jenkins from the previous incarnation. Now known as Eric Burdon and The Animals, the group immersed themselves in the psychedelic culture of San Francisco and their sound followed suit. Informed by his inaugural acid trip, Burdon led his bandmates through a fresh, decidedly lysergic interpretation of American blues. While the original group had largely performed songs written by others, The New Animals began composing as a group.

The prophetically titled Winds of Change, released in September 1967, offered ten stellar examples of this new songwriting approach, along with a heavy cover of The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black." Lead single "San Franciscan Nights" encapsulated the Summer of Love in what became a top ten hit for the new band (and helped get them on the bill for the seminal Monterey Pop Festival).

A musical legacy that began in Hawthorne, California and went on to conquer the world. Analogue Productions presents the ultimate pressings of 14 essential Beach Boys albums!

Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) was released in stereo for the first time in 2012. These stereo mixes were created between 2005 and 2012 using the first generation basic tracking session multitracks, synced with the overdubs that were later added on second and third generation masters, to create the first true stereo mixes.

The exception is Help Me Rhonda, which is a computer-generated stereo mix by Derry Fitzgerald. A remix in stereo for that track isn't possible because many overdubs were added as the song was mixed for the original mono single. The stereo mixes for Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), Beach Boys' Party! and Smiley Smile were produced and mixed by Mark Linett, and co-produced by Alan Boyd.

Apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965.

These 5 shaggy haired dudes from Boston were more interested in the Sonics than the Sex Pistols and their goal, as stated by frontman Jeff Mono Man Conolly was fusing the sound of the Chocolate Watchband and The Stooges.

Produced by Flo & Eddie, of The Turtles' fame, this album was much maligned at the time but has come to be accepted as a classic record that helped jump start the ongoing garage-rock revival that began in the '80s. The Ultimate Analogue Test LP

    Editors Editors Editors Editors

Analogue Productions set out to produce the ultimate test record.

We've consulted many experts in the field, including mastering engineers, audio experts, turntable experts and audiophile listeners, to create a test record that's never been made before. When Barry Wolifson from Sterling Sound in New York City called us with the same idea we had been thinking about - that being to create the ultimate test record - he and our audio expert Clark Williams began to brainstorm and research ideas until they were both completely satisfied with what should go on the record.

Most of the test records in the past have been made to test a variety of equipment. This test record excludes silly cannon shots, typewriters, voices on one channel and other useless fluff. This one specifically addresses your turntable and cartridge. It's designed to provide the basic test signals necessary to calibrate a turntable or cutting lathe as simply as possible. Most of the signals have specific implications, but it is certainly possible to use them in any number of novel ways.

This record was mastered and cut on a Neumann VMS 80 lathe at Sterling Sound and pressed at Record Technology, Inc. on high-quality, 180-gram virgin vinyl.

    Side 1

    General Reference Level

This 1 kHz reference tone will allow you to establish a "base level" for all measurements.
Track 1 1Khz reference tone 7cm/s Mono, in phase (Lateral)

Basic reference for all measurements, adjust meter for maximum convenience (in the studio 0VU).
Adjust preamp channel balance for equal output.
Also used to check the offset angle of the photo cartridge; L&R signals should be exactly in phase as displayed on an oscilloscope.

    Azimuth Adjustment

Track 2 1kHz reference level Left channel only

    Measure Right channel output.

Track 3 1kHz reference level Right channel only

    Measure Left channel output.

The object is to sit the stylus exactly perpendicular in the groove.

Twist cartridge about its radial axis until the measurements from Track 2 and Track 3 are equal or very close to equal for both channels.

    High Frequency Adjustment

Tracks 4, 5 and 6 are used to calibrate the RIAA high frequency equalizer of a phono preamp. This will be used to calibrate a mastering lathe's phono preamplifier or any phono preamplifier that has these adjustments.

Track 4 1 kHz tone at -20 below reference level, Lateral

    Reference for High Frequency test.

Track 5 10 kHz reference tone at -20dbu, Lateral
Adjust the high frequency until the output level equals that of Track 4.

Track 6 1 kHz to 20 kHz sweep at -20dbu, Mono (Lateral)

The AC millivoltmeter reading should stay constant across all frequencies. There are a number of factors which can affect frequency response, including cable capacitance, cartridge loading, tracking force and worn parts. Because of this, it can be difficult to achieve perfectly flat frequency response. Sometimes by making small compromises in the 10 kHz adjustment, a better overall frequency response can be achieved.

    Low Frequency Adjustment

Tracks 7 & 8 are used to calibrate the RIAA low frequency equalizer of a phono preamp.

Track 7 1 kHz to 20 Hz sweep at 0 VU (Lateral)

Play Track 7 and measure the output with your AC millivolt meter.

Ideally, the output will be flat across all frequencies. When viewed on an oscilloscope, the amplitude would remain constant during the frequency downsweep.

Track 8 100 Hz reference tone at 0 vu (Lateral)
Adjust LF Eq to reference (which is your reading from Track 1).

    Track 9 VTA adjust

This is an IEC intermodulation distortion (IMD) test signal; 60Hz & 4kHz 4:1 ratio.

Using an IMD tester, adjust VTA by raising or lowering the tonearm for minimum distortion.

Track 10 Standard Wow & Flutter test signal; 3150Hz
The Wow & Flutter meter will give dynamic speed variations as a percentage deviation from nominal.

Also, the frequency counter should read exactly 3150 Hz for nominal speed. You can use the Hz function on your multi-meter (if so equipped) to verify speed here as well. You can also use to find the measurements at 45RPM. The correct reading at 45RPM would be 4253 Hz (45/33.33) x 3150.

    Side 2

Track 1 Anti-skating test; 315Hz amplitude sweep to +12dbu (Lateral)

Signal should remain clean in both channels up to the highest level, both audibly and as viewed on an oscilloscope. In case of distortion, increase anti-skating force or decrease anti-skate until breakup occurs equally in both channels. The left channel information is inscribed on the inner groove wall, the right channel information, on the outer groove wall. Because of the offset angle of a pivoted tonearm, a constantly varying vector force biases the arm towards the center of the record causing the stylus to lose contact with the outer (i.e. right channel) groove wall. Both linear and modulated groove velocity, tracking force, stylus profile, and vinyl composition are contributing factors. The anti skating force attempts to ameliorate this by applying an opposing similar force.

It is also accepted that the overall force vector increases as the tonearm approaches closer to the spindle or end of the record.

    Track 2 Pink noise lateral

    Track 3 Pink noise vertical

    Used for cartridge "demagnetizing"

You can also use this track to loosen up the cantilever's suspension to help break in a new cartridge. Play these tracks five to ten times after every 300 hours of normal LP playback.

    Track 4 1kHz @ reference level, vertical
This out-of-phase signal should cancel to nothing when summed to mono.

Any signals still present are distortion artifacts, lack of channel balance, or timing (phase) anomalies. This test can be a second confirmation of anti-skate adjustment.

    Track 5 1kHz to 10Hz sweep @ -20 below

    reference level, vertical
Resonance anomalies in the tonearm / cartridge interface will show up as amplitude peaks and dips as the frequency sweeps down.

Once again, by listening in 'Mono' it is easier to hear the distortion artifacts.

Track 6 Silent groove for bearing rumble and table isolation

During playback of this track, nothing should be transmitted from the turntable to the speakers. Replay the track and gently tap on the rack or base that the turntable is resting on. There should be little or no thump transferred to the speakers. This track will help you experiment with turntable isolation methods and products to be able to get the most out of your playback system. You may want to use a closed or sealed headphone for best listening results, or a stethoscope on the plinth.

The Classic 4 is a precision measuring device in its own right; as well as telling you what's in your records' grooves, it will also tell you just how competent your setup is. - Roy Gregory

The Classic 4 is really, chief designer and former co-owner, Harry Weisfeld's table. He didn't design this table for the consumer, he designed it for his own personal us so he could listen to a 12 inch arm on a Classic table (Classic 1-3 do not have the space to properly mount a 12 inch arm.) We presented the table at the 2012 New York Audio Show to make a statement while also announcing the VPI Traveler. It wasn't intended to bring into the VPI line but the positive feedback and interest immediately made it a staple in the production line.

Identical build as the Classic 3 but with a larger size chassis, plus having a 12 inch arm gives you more stability, lower tracking distortion, and additional low level resolution from your records. Having the additional size gives the listener a chance to mount a second 10 or 12 inch tone arm in the rear. Why would you have two arms? This lets you have both a stereo and mono cartridge set up at the same time.

The Classic 4 features a ½ thick machined aluminum plinth bonded to a 1/8 steel sub plate with dampening fabric in between. This is then bonded to 2 of MDF creating a plinth which is so massive and well damped it virtually eliminates resonance. The Classic 4 can use either an extended Classic Signature arm or an extended Classic 3D arm.

The custom nature of this table comes from the numerous options you have. You can mount 1 or 2 tonearms, 10" or 12" arms, any arm made by almost anyone, it is all customizable and affordable.

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

    Power For Your System

The MM7055 power amplifier produces 140 watts of high current output from each of its five channels. This is "real world" power, too, measured across the full audio bandwidth (20 Hz - 20 kHz) at 8 ohms with 0.08% Total Harmonic Distortion. Among other attributes, this means the MM7055 is capable of long-term power delivery into low impedance speakers.

    The Many Faces of Excellence

In practical terms, the MM7055 is ideal for a "5.1" home theater system, whether based on a moderately powered receiver or a surround sound processor. You can use it to power speakers in different areas of your home; stereo reproduction in two rooms plus a mono channel for secondary areas such as a den or kitchen. For more complex home theater systems, the MM7055 pairs with one or several MM7025s to help create a totally immersive "7.1" or "9.1" audio experience.

    Inside The MM7055

A massive power supply includes a multiple-secondary EI-core transformer and over 65,000 µF of custom-designed energy storage capacity. Critical circuit components from many world-class suppliers were chosen only after extensive listening tests. Among these, the LAPT Hyper Power output devices were first used in Reference Series components. Current feedback topology insures astounding accuracy and control under high-drive conditions.

    A Temperature-Controlled Environment

Physically, the MM7055's output stages mount on an extruded aluminum "thermal tunnel" for efficient heat dissipation. With temperature-sensing forced air cooling, this configuration assures cool operating temperatures for long-term reliability, even when making full use of the amplifier's substantial output capabilities.

    Flexible Connections

Balanced inputs and single-ended RCA inputs are both supported, and you can choose either type of input for each channel, individually, for easy and flexible connectivity. Audiophile grade, gold-plated four-way binding post speaker terminals insure tight connections to your choice of speaker wire.

    Custom Touches

The MM7055 includes input and output jacks for DC "trigger" pulses as well as RC-5 jacks for total remote control convenience, even with legacy Marantz products.

The chassis itself is heavy gauge steel for maximum isolation from external vibration as well as electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. And chassis depth is less than 14½" so the MM7055 will fit quite nicely on a shelf, in a cabinet, or in a conventional system rack with the optional rack mount kit RMK8003MM.

Power. Functionality. Dependability. And classic looks. The MM7055 is, simply speaking, a Marantz.

Celebrate The 55th Anniversary Of Elvis Presley's Smash Soundtrack Album King Creole!

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Manufactured At R.t.i.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during The Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during
the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys.

These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his
contract and signed the legend to a long term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King Of Rock And
    Roll" trademark to his name.

In 1958 after several chart topping albums and a bevy of number one singles, more incredible fame followed as the King
Creole movie starring Elvis Presley became a box office smash. The soundtrack album also was a blockbuster as it topped the
charts, making this his sixth smash album in a row! Both the King Creole movie and soundtrack LP truly proved once again that his
career was unlike any other in music history.

Filled with more hits than a New Orleans jukebox, the King Creole album takes off with several smashes in a row, including
the classic title track rocker King Creole featuring Scotty Moore's trail blazing guitar work and the chart topping single Hard Headed
Woman. More soundtrack treasures follow with the beautiful ballad Young Dreams and the rockin' blues of his huge classic Trouble,
which truly made the album a treasure trove of hits. The album also features the stellar bayou rock blues of Crawfish which amazingly sounds like some of the classic southern rock sounds to grace the radio throughout the sixties and seventies. In total, the
album showcases 11 important Elvis Presley recordings which have truly gone on to become international classics.

His Self Titled "Rockin' Chair" Masterwork Album Is Back!

First Time Official Audiophile Vinyl - Stunning First Time Gatefold Cover With Rare Photos

Mastered From The Authorized Chess Records Mono Tapes By Joe Reagoso

Howlin' Wolf (Chester Burnett) will always be known as one of the founding fathers of modern day blues. His
legendary style of playing guitar, his unique vocal and stage prowess and of course his stellar list of classic Chicago
style blues tunes have all gone on to influence generations upon generations of rock and blues performers worldwide.

With almost six decades in the music business, this Mississippi native began his career cutting early sides for
Sun before landing in Chicago in the early fifties, where he began a long climb to the top of the blues world on the
    Chess label.

In 1962, he released his stellar self-titled masterpiece Howlin' Wolf. Featuring an all-star band with the likes of
the legendary Jimmy Rogers and Buddy Guy on guitar, the masterful Otis Spann on piano, and Willie Dixon on bass,
Howlin' Wolf a/k/a The Rockin' Chair Album would go on to become one of the most revered albums in modern day
    Chicago blues history.

Kicking things off with one of his finest smash hits Shake for Me, The Wolf continues to rock the listener through
a treasure trove of 11 more blues standards which made this one of the most important blues LP's of all time. The
album features classic gems like Spoonful, Back Door Man, Wang Dang Doodle and The Red Rooster. All of these
blues rockers became truly a blueprint for a ton of rock and blues giants for years like Cream, The Doors and The
    Rolling Stones.

Ricky Nelson Ricky Sings Again on Numbered Limited Edition LP from Mobile Fidelity Silver Label

Foundation-Establishing Rock n' Roll Album Includes Eternal Hit Lonesome Town

A Late 1950s Vocal and Instrumental Touchstone: Nelson Comes Into His Own, Moving Away from Teen Pop and Towards Serious Rockabilly

Stellar Backing Band Includes Elvis Presley Sideman/Guitarist James Burton and Backing Vocalists the Jordanaires

    Also Includes Top 10 Singles Believe What You Say, It's Late, and Never Be Anyone Else But You;

Superb Sound: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

Ricky Nelson will forever be identified with the ageless single Lonesome Town. The career-defining smash is included here, on a record that arguably remains the picturesque idol's peak moment, a 1959 set on which the singer moves away from teen pop and towards serious rock nl' roll and rockabilly on par with the likes of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Loaded with material expressly written for Nelson as well as tunes penned by Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, and featuring an all-star session musician band, Ricky Sings Again is a foundation-building 1950s album.

Exceeding the fidelity of any prior analog pressing and affording a warmth missing from Capitol's out-of-print digital reissues, this Silver Label LP, pressed at RTI and mastered on Mobile Fidelity's internationally acclaimed mastering system, teems with detail, presence, dynamics, and authority. With help from his legendary father, Ozzie, Nelson enjoyed superb studio production, heard here in the form of balanced instrumentation, natural tonalities, wide and deep soundstages, and you-are-there vocals. Studio dimensions, too, come across with palpable body and precision. Since the record is a collection, some of the tracks are in mono, others in early stereo.

Backed by a stellar band that includes Elvis Presley guitarist James Burton and in-demand studio bassist James Kirkland, Nelson delivers what remains a 1950s classic that stands up to everything recorded by his famous contemporaries. Burton mimics the sound of a train on One Of These Mornings, just one of the myriad tunes here on which the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member lays down fabulous lines and rockabilly licks that both shade and support the concise melodies. While largely recognized for the melancholy ballad Lonesome Town, one of four Top 10 singles on the set, Ricky Sings Again is as much about early rock n' roll and extraordinary singing. About that voice.

Simultaneously tender and rollicking, innocent and mature, Nelson conveys a rainbow of emotions, pouring over country-flavored weepers and beat-driven rockabilly numbers with equal parts sensitivity, smoothness, and sincerity. A surfeit of heavenly background harmonies and innovative guitar-led breaks make masterpieces out of upbeat offerings such as You Tear Me Up as well as slow-dance invitations like Old Enough to Love. Add the Jordanaires on back-up vocals, and there's something for everyone here.

No matter the performance, Nelson demonstrates time and again on Ricky Sings Again why he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the institution's second year of existence, and why, even more so than Elvis during 1958-59, he was the period's leading singles artist.

Capuchin Swing (Mono) (Out Of Stock)

Considered one of his strongest Blue Note outings, Capuchin Swing basically forced McLean to bring in some heavyweights to help define and deliver his vision. First and foremost was Blue Mitchells forceful trumpet, chosen to counterpoint the leaders alto, that was in a feisty mood of its own throughout the sessions. Having Walter Bishop, Jr. on piano, Paul Chambers bass and Art Taylor banging skins frees the leaders mind of worry rhythm-wise, allowing him and Mitchell to co-explore new heights of interplay. The intensity on McLean originals such as Francisco, Condition Blue and the title tune are both riveting and sometimes draining, while Bishop contributes both Just For Now plus another dedication to the label founder, On The Lion. This Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series release was mastered and cut on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system allowing the listener to hear the music as Rudy Van Gelder mixed and intended it to be heard in PURE MONO with no faux stereo artifacts from using a stereo cutter head! Jackie's Bag (Out Of Stock)

This 1959 12 is made up of two distinct sessions, including Jackie McLeans first as a leader for the label. These sides helped establish him as one of the finest young alto voices on the jazz scene. Although a strong album through-and-through, the strongest material lay in the interplay between the altoist and the still under-appreciated tenor Tina Brooks. A great and unique alto/tenor tandem was born and sadly short-lived, due to Brooks demise at a young age. But the handful of selections they were able to create on this and a few other Blue Note releases are superb. Donald Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Paul Chambers, Sonny Clark, Kenny Drew and Billy Mitchell collectively make McLeans album debut, memorable. As part of the Classic Blue Note Signature LP Reissue Series this reissue was mastered and cut from the original analog master tapes on Classics ALL TUBE MONO cutting system and featuring authentic tip on jackets with film laminate front covers.
