    City Life

City Life, arguably The Blackbyrds' best album, hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz Chart and #3 on the Billboard Soul Chart upon its original release in 1975.
Produced by legendary jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd, the album showcases The Blackbyrd's' unique jazz-funk crossover sound and includes the runaway
hits Happy Music and Rock Creek Park, which stand even today as pinnacles of the '70s jazz-funk movement. A testament to its lasting appeal, Rock
Creek Park from the City Life album has been sampled numerous times by groups such as De La Soul, Eric B. & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, N.W.A,
Massive Attack, Ice Cube, Heavy D, Nas and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Tone Loc and most recently, Wiz Khalifa. This often-sublime album
is primed for rediscovery by fans of '70s funk, soul, jazz and fusion.

    L.D. 50

    Includes 6-Page Booklet

Produced By Garth Richardson And Slipknot Member Shawn Crahan

Including The Hits Dig And Death Blooms

    First Time On Vinyl

Mudvayne was an American heavy metal band from Illinois formed in 1996. The band became known for its strong visual appearance, which included horror film-styled makeup. The band has sold over six million records worldwide, including nearly three million in the United States.

L.D. 50 by Mudvayne was appraised by critics for its technical and heavy style of music. It features a style which has been referred to by the band as math metal. For the album they experimented with a ragged, dissonant sound; a sound collage prepared specially for the album that was used as a series of interludes.

Furthermore L.D. 50 was produced by Garth GGGarth Richardson and executive production by Slipknot member Shawn Clown Crahan.

In the year of its release the album peaked at number one on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and number 85 on the Billboard 200. The singles Dig and Death Blooms peaked at No. 33 and No. 32, respectively, on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Rolling Stone contributor Ben Ratliff gave the album three out of five stars. Ratliff noted the band's technical background, comparing the songwriting style to that of Nirvana and stating that the album's interludes are better than those of Slipknot. Blabbermouth.net writer Borivoj Krgin praised its technicality and heaviness.

    Mecca & The Soul Brother

Mecca And The Soul Brother from 1992 is considered by fans and critics as one of the finest hip hop albums of the early 90s. Songs like Lots of Lovin, They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.), Anger In The Nation and It It Ain't Rough, It Ain't Right have everything; funky basslines, solid production, convincing lyrics and lots of soul. Producer Pete Rock built his beats from obscure R&B, funk and jazz records and CL Smooth added his sometimes philosophical raps.

Guest rappers on the album include Grand Puba (of Brand Nubian), Heavy D, Rob-O, Grap & Dida, and it reached #7 in the US R&B/Hip-hop charts and #43 in the US album charts.

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth stopped working together in 1995 after finishing their follow-up album The Main Ingredient. Rumor has it that the duo will be reuniting for a brand new album.

    304

"Raver 5 pulses and glides with nocturnal
    energy and calm beauty."
    - Sam Hockley, Fact Mag

"[Lie EP] is full of nostalgic chords and ambiance
but also driven with a defiant force that sinks
heavy to the heart. D Tiberio is someone you
definitely want to keep a watchful eye on."
    - April Lanier, Okay Future

    304 is D Tiberio's ode to his mother's home.
The address is both personal and anonymous,
Providing an entry point into the bleak emotional
spectrum of daily existence and its anomalies.
Partial to concepts of imperfection, many tracks
include lo-fi audio clips sampled from YouTube,
television and other non-musical sounds that may
normally go unnoticed in our surroundings.
The textures are burnt and the rhythms disrupted,
yet each track is constructed to achieve an
    unconventional harmony.

"Raver 5" has caught the attention of both critics
and fans for its mature, multi-genre production.
"Let Her" and "Gone," featuring Natasha Agrama,
pair sultry female vocals with heavy, atmospheric
    beats.

The sonic creation of an introspective observer,
304 carries with it a shift in perspective of what
may contribute to an essential sensory escape.

    Breaking Day

Breaking Day is the second full-length album from Cleared, the Chicago-based duo of Steven Hess and Michael Vallera. While their self-titled debut album found the duo exploring themes of stasis and texture, Breaking Day represents a huge development in the scope and overall style of the project. Where previous material had been slowly assembled from dozens of individual recordings and experiments, this new collection of songs was born from the raw documentation of Cleareds live performance in the studio.

Elements of noise, drone, and psychedelia are filtered through a dark, unifying lens that ranges from relentless rhythmic assault to monolithic tonal sculpture. Dueling rhythms of drums and sampled percussion, walls of undulating soundscapes, and hypnotic guitar are deployed with heightened intensity and force. If Cleareds first record presented a frozen, gray-washed realm of ambient sound, Breaking Day represents its inverse: a blackened subterranean space of alien movement and activity; a premonition of an assault from the unknown.

Breaking Day is presented with the utmost highest production standards, mastered and cut to vinyl by Andreas Lubich at D&M in Berlin, pressed on high-quality virgin vinyl at RTI and housed in a heavy-duty old-style tip-on gatefold jacket printed by Stoughton. Also included is a free download coupon. LP is limited to only 500 copies.

    Red Colored Vinyl

    Side B Etching

Finally...a new Sleep song!!! The first new song from the masters since their life changing, anthemic 63 minutes & 36 second opus to marijuana: Dopesmoker (1999)!: "The Clarity" on side A, Etching on side B. Artwork (Etching) by David V. D'Andrea. Mastered by John Golden. Recorded by Noah Landis. "The Clarity" 12" was previously only available directly from the band via their merch table or online web-store. This Southern Lord version has been recut by Adam Gonsalves/Telegraph Mastering and pressed on 180 gram vinyl at RTI.

The Lord version also has the ultra heavy-weight vinyl housed in a thick plastic picture disc style sleeve with the iconic Sleep logo silk-screened on the front.

While there may have been a few like them before them, there were none like them really and certainly none of after them. And so in 2009 when they were reborn with Cisneros who'd been reframing the world with the band OM, Matt Pike doing double duty with this and his HIGH ON FIRE, and the estimable Jason Roeder doing the same with NEUROSIS, SLEEP did what it had done and what it had left to do. Largely and without pause, make music in tune with The Ages.

Vinyl Lacquers Cut By Alex DeTurk At Masterdisk

    Pressed At R.T.I.

No digital 'plug-ins' of any kind were used in this recording. All of the recording, processing, effects and mixing was done in the analog domain using tape and mostly vintage equipment.

''For all intents and purposes, this album is the black version of [The Beach Boys'] Smile-- at best, it will go down in the Smile/There's a Riot Goin' On/Miles Davis' On the Corner category.'' - Questlove

The prodigal son of the soul and funk canon, D'Angelo, is back! His ever-awaited third studio album, Black Messiah, is his first album since the critically acclaimed Voodoo, bringing to an end a 14-year hiatus. The album blends 70's jazz-funk and neo-soul.

Anyone who's been keeping up should be keen to the fact that the long-lusted over project was recorded in full analog, so the liner notes' PSA "For best results, listen at maximum volume" should be taken as a direct order for fervent D'lievers. And what better way to experience the gritty greatness of the release than a heavy-bodied vinyl pressing for the audio junkies?

The album features tracks co-penned by Kendra Foster (Parliament/Funkadelic) and Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest). It's also co-produced by Questlove (The Roots), bassist Pino Palladino (John Mayer Trio, The RH Factor), and drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers, Temptations, Beck, Jamie Lidell).

    Cattle Callin'

Shelton Hank Williams, aka Hank III, presents two new projects: Attention Deficit Domination and 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin. Both are intensely metal-driven records on which Hank III plays all instruments. Attention Deficit Domination is a pressure-dropping, doom rock statement that has been anticipated by his hardcore fans for years, and Cattle Callin explores a new mind-bending 'Cattle Core' sound, featuring Hank III's speed metal woven in and around actual cattle auctioneering.

Attention Deficit Domination allows the listener into Hank III's crunching metal world of the heavy and the slow, complete with his renowned fundamental percussion. The nine tracks hardly allow you to get up from the floor. With songs such as I Feel Sacrificed and the tormented Livin Beyond Doom, Hank III works a ground somewhere between devastation and high theater. Both A.D.D. and Cattle Callin' are very intense. It's very manic, Hank III explains. It's hard to follow, even for the guys I play with. I'm playing everything on these two. It's very complex.

There are 23 tracks on Cattle Callin, featuring Hank III's driving, formidable guitar attack, with instrumentation built around the auctioneering tongue-in-cheek humor with titles such as Heavy Cattle and Angus of Death. Also fans of bluegrass will love the banjo-driven Cattle Callin Lonesome Blues, featuring Mason. I was raised around it (cattle auctioneering) and it's pretty amazing how fast these guys are, Hank III says. Hip-hop has looped auctioneers. Bluegrass has meessed around with it a little bit. This has never been done in the heavy metal world.

    Tyranny And Mutation (Speakers Corner)

Let's look back nostalgically to the days when influential DJs presented their precious wares on the radio, which were lapped up by listeners and music pirates alike. That progressive, perhaps psycho, rockers such as the Blue Öyster Cult led a somewhat niche existence makes one all the more eager to listen to the truly awesome discs recorded by this group in their early days. An important start was made with the re-release of BÖC's Secret Treaties (Columbia KC 32858), which is now followed by Tyranny And Mutation - another great disc. Although the band offers a mix of slightly subdued, milder pieces, the opening number The Red & The Black makes it fully clear that we are in for a dizzy roller-coaster ride here. Subsequently the Black side with its straightforward guitar riffs is mixed together with a complex melody and results in an amazingly colourful sound (O.D.'d On Life Itself), it is refreshingly naive, full of feisty complicated rock (Baby Ice Dog), and soars to celestial heights in Wings Wetted Down with its polyphonic male voices.

After the death of 'Lemmy' Kilmister in 2015, we can now enjoy only one group with a heavy-metal Umlaut in its name. But who wants to wait around until some radio DJ puts this great chunk of meaty rock'n'roll on the turntable?

    Musicians:

    • Eric Bloom (guitar, keyboards, vocal)

    • Allen Lanier (keyboards, guitar)

    • Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser (guitar, vocal)

    • Joe Bouchard (bass, vocal, keyboards)

    • Albert Bouchard (drums, vocal)

Recording: 1972 at Columbia Studios, New York City, by Tim Geelan

Production: Murray Krugman and Sandy Pearlman

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

That Rich, Humid, Giant Sax Tone Blooms Like On Few Other Webster Recordings

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

200-Gram Gatefold 45 RPM Double LP Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

...Webster's trademark sensual sound is on full display and, of course, he's backed by Montoliu, an outstanding Spanish piano veteran who accompanied all the great jazz artists passing through Europe...This is one of the first releases by Analogue Productions pressed at their new in-house pressing plant Quality Record Pressings, and the record bears a close resemblance in appearance to records from Pallas - beautiful looking and perfectly quiet...The superb 200-gram LP comes in a rice paper sleeve and jacket of heavy cardboard...Highest Recommendation. Recording = 10/10; Music = 8.5/10 - Dennis D. Davis, Hi-Fi+, Issue 81

This recording was made 10 months before Ben Webster's death in 1972. Webster, who had left the United States in 1965 to settle in Europe - first in Copenhagen and then in Amsterdam - was visiting fellow musician and friend Tete Montoliu in Barcelona. Webster and pianist Montoliu went back a ways, having played together regularly in Webster's Copenhagen days. In fact, Montoliu cited Webster and Don Byas as his two chief musical influences. Webster and Montoliu understood each other deeply, and their comfort with on another is palpable in this recording. Their accompaniment of one another is seamless. On board with these two is Montoliu's regular working trio-mates, Eric Peter on bass and Peer Wyboris on drums.

There's no shortage of Webster's trademark breathy, fat tenor tone here. In fact, given the sparse arrangement, that rich, humid, giant sax blooms like on few other recordings. Highlights include Ben's Blues, Sweet Georgia Brown, The Man I Love and Don't Blame Me.

    Savages

Max Cavalera is the walking embodiment of creative energy, of all of the diverse layers of urgency that are possible from that select few whose artistic output defines genres. Mystic shaman, protest singer, revolutionary hero, everyday metalhead, furious consumer of heavy music of all shades, husband, father, leader, songwriter Cavalera reigns as the adoptive tribal chief of a generation of fans, stretching from the roughest slums of South America to the coldest confines of Russia. Anywhere that people are disenfranchised, the songs of SOULFLY serve as their anthems.

Armed with Cavalera's four-stringed guitars, unmistakable growl and instantly recognizable riffage, the muddy tones and constant rhythmic bounce of SOULFLY has retained its gritty edge while pushing the boundaries of what's possible in metal. »Savages« represents a career-defining moment, solidifying the lineup with longtime lead guitarist Marc Rizzo (who has been in SOULFLY almost as long as Max was in SEPULTURA), bassist Tony Campos (Static X, Ministry, Prong) and Max's 21 year-old Zyon, who splits his time between drumming in LODY KONG and now SOULFLY.

"All of the things that make SOULFLY killer are combined in Savages," Max declares.

»Savages« melds the most brutal, the heaviest and overall the most vibrant components that made up each record in SOULFLY's diverse catalog. By Max's own account, »Savages« is possessed of the tribal groove of the first two SOULFLY albums, particularly in songs like 'Bloodshed', 'Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla' and 'Master of Savagery'. But there's also the thrash metal that was found on DARK AGES and OMEN; whereas the CAVALERA CONSPIRACY records contain short, punky bursts, the new SOULFLY record gets into the epic length territory of early METALLICA. The death metal vibe of SOULFLY's »Enslaved« emerges in songs like 'Fallen' and 'Cannibal Holocaust'.

"I really like the name »Savages«. I like single words that sound powerful, like 'Primitive', 'Roots', 'Arise'," Max explains. "It's about the human condition right now. We have the Internet and we're working on missions to Mars, but we are still decapitating each other and blowing up marathons. We're still savages. Even with technology and how far we've come in the world, our spirit is still that of a savage."

A trailblazing pioneer and musician with millions of albums sold who nevertheless retains boundless street cred due to his grimy, raw and undeniable authenticity; Max Cavalera is one of the most prolific artists the realm of heavy music has ever known. There's CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, which reunited Max with his brother and former bandmate, Igor Cavalera. There was the brutal attack of NAILBOMB, Max's collaboration with Alex Newport from FUDGE TUNNEL, which included members of DEAD KENNEDYS, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, BIOHAZARD and NEUROSIS on-stage. There's his forthcoming band with members of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, MASTODON and THE MARS VOLTA. Of course, there's Max's unassailable work as SEPULTURA's founder, leading the Brazilian band from their badass lo-fi beginnings, through their era of sophisticated thrash classics, up through the cultural landmark that is 'Roots'.

SOULFLY began almost instantaneously after his departure from the band he founded. The eponymously titled debut »Soulfly« sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone, further expanding upon the tribal foundation of 'Roots' with percussive instrumentation, forays into esoteric sounds and multiple guest performers. Across the seven albums and never-ending tours that followed, Max worked with a who's-who of the heavy music scene as band mates, guest musicians and touring members, including guys from SLIPKNOT, SLAYER, MEGADETH, DEFTONES, RADIOHEAD, STONE SOUR, CYPRESS HILL, MACHINE HEAD, DEVILDRIVER, FEAR FACTORY, MORBID ANGEL, THROWDOWN, S.O.D., SKINDRED, BORKNAGAR, WILL HAVEN and CATTLE DECAPITATION, among others.

In addition to Max's own self-production, a number of important producers have lent their skills to SOULFLY, including »Roots« producer Ross Robinson (KORN, AT THE DRIVE-IN), Toby Wright (Ozzy Osbourne, SLAYER), Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), ex-SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, GORJIA) and Zeuss (HATEBREED, SUICIDE SILENCE) and Terry Date (PANTERA, DEFTONES).

Cavalera asked Date, who had mixed for SOULFLY in the past, to produce the new album. Once studio time with the legendary producer was on the calendar, Max kicked into high gear with the material. Max and Zyon worked on the songs that would comprise »Savages« at home. "Zyon came up to me and said, 'Give me a shot. I'll play on the record for you. I won't let you down," explains the elder Cavalera. "I went into a room with him to jam and it felt great. So I said, 'Fuck yeah, let's do it!"

Generally on a SOULFLY album, the drummers would learn the songs in the studio, based on demo recordings from Max. This time, Max had the luxury of working out the songs at home with Zyon. "We jammed every single day for a month. He knew 90% of the material already when we got into the studio. It reminded me of recording the old Sepultura stuff, like Arise and Chaos A.D., Igor knew exactly what he was going to do before we went into the studio. This was very similar."

Cavalera says he must've written at least 1,000 riffs specifically for »Savages«. "The killer riff is what hooks the whole song together," he says. "For me the writing process is about finding the most killer riffs possible. It's a battle; sometimes I struggle with the guitar for hours. You have to throw it down on the floor and take a break. Come back a few hours later. 'Let's try this again, motherfucker!' Grab it again and go to battle, go to war with the guitar until you get the right riffs."

Max points to BLACK SABBATH's 'Symptom of the Universe' as one of the penultimate riffs of all time, citing SABBATH's Tony Iommi and METALLICA frontman James Hetfield as among the riff-masters he most admires. "I think of riff making as an art-form. I take it really seriously. I think it deserves more attention. It has such value."

Speaking of riffs, Rizzo came into the band a decade ago and his love of thrash metal, death metal and collaborative spirit has energized Max ever since. "When Marc entered Soulfly, it was a drastic change. He's the guitar player I've been looking for my whole life. Andreas [Kisser] and I really clicked when we worked together. I never had that again after that. We had other guys that were cool, but it was never 100% there. When Marc came in, I found it! We've developed a great bond since." Rizzo particularly shines on the opening track on Savages, 'Bloodshed.' "There's stuff all over the song - clean guitars, feedback - he just makes the song better."

Campos has a lengthy resume in the world of metal and Max says they bonded over their shared Latino heritage, among other things. "I had this idea about this guy Vargas, a Venezuelan cannibal, they call him 'El Comegente.' He's the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes. We both read about it. Tony sings some of it in Spanish and I sing in Portuguese. He's a great bass player too, fucking amazing. Killer bass tones, distortion, all balls-out metal. He keeps this shit real heavy, great tone. It's great recording with guys who know what they're doing. I don't have to ask if they know."

Max acknowledges the inherent risk in putting a 21 year-old behind the kit for such an important record, but it was a risk he absolutely wanted to take. "To have my son drumming on the album, that's killer. I like risks. I like to start shit up and see what happens. Even if I fail, at least I knew I tried. Rather than knowing I didn't try at all. To me, that's the bigger failure. It took a little bit of courage to put my son on it. I came to the studio and told Terry there was a young drummer who doesn't play to a click. Terry knew what to do and Zyon did great. The drums sound amazing."

Like all things Max Cavalera, does SOULFLY's »Savages is a family affair. Not only does it mark Zyon's recorded debut with the band, but one of Max's other kids throws down some vocals in the opening track, 'Bloodshed'. "My son Igor has a killer punk rock voice that reminds me of the old CORROSION OF CONFORMITY days," Max says. "The chorus has this old punk style riff, almost like a MISFITS type riff. His voice is killer."

Like every SOULFLY album, »Savages« contains an impressive guest list comprised of veterans and up-and-comers. CLUTCH's Neil Fallon turns up on 'Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla', the title of which was inspired by Mel Gibson's classic Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior movie. Jamie Hanks from I DECLARE WAR brought his high and low deathcore vocals to 'Fallen', a death metal oriented song Max says is in the vein of CANNIBAL CORPSE.

Mitch Harris from NAPALM DEATH contributed vocals to 'K.C.S.' Harris has been around the Cavaleras long enough that there are videos of him changing Zyon's diapers when SOULFLY's new drummer was just one month old. "Mitch came to the studio just to hang out during a day off from tour," Max explains. "I'm like, 'You ready to sing some shit on this record?' I put him on the spot. He's like, 'Right now?' I said, 'Fuck yeah, let's do it!' There was one point where we were recording together where he did a scream and I saw his eyeball popping out of his face like a cartoon. I was like, 'Dude that was the most metal thing I've seen in a long time.'"

Even as Max continues to consume new music from band like NINE INCH NAILS, MAN MUST DIE, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED and I DECLARE WAR, even as he revisits seminal material from METALLICA, SLAYER, C.O.C. and the like, and indulges his penchant for world music, and gets his hands in his other projects and collaborations, it all adds up to a singular, distinct, straightforward and riff-heavy machine known as SOULFLY.

Heavy metal punk n' rollers RAMMING SPEED will release their sophomore Prosthetic effort, "No Epitaphs. Recorded late last year with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Skeletonwitch, Kvelertak) at GodCity Studios, the album borrows from the bulldozer riffs of Swedish D-beat, the guitar harmonies of British heavy metal, the raw aggression of American grind and the visceral energy of basement hardcore. The band have teamed with Germany's SLAM Magazine to debut the new track "Choke Holds and Bullet Holes,"

After nearly three dedicated decades, Schaffer, drummer Brent Smedley, vocalist Stu Block, bassist Luke Appleton, and new guitarist Jake Dreyer have assembled the fiercest Iced Earth record since 1996 milestone The Dark Saga and 1998's chart-blazer Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Titled 'Incorruptible', Iced Earth's 12th record is inspired not by things political but by things personal. Since Plagues of Babylon landed in 2014 to heaps of praise and chart-topping success, Schaffer and team have weathered proverbial storms. Management shake-ups, Schaffer's well-publicized and very serious neck surgery-he's since fully recovered-and lineup shifts all played positively into Incorruptible. But that wasn't always the case.

Written primarily by Schaffer over the course of several months - a process he calls "typical"- Incorruptible finds Iced Earth pivoting off everything they've learned-going all the way back to 1990's Iced Earth-to come away with an album that feels and sounds superlatively heavy metal. And definitely like Iced Earth.

From the Viking-inspired power of opener 'Great Heathen Army' to the epic pirate-inspired 'Black Flag' to the aggression of 'Seven Headed Whore', based on the Whore of Babylon, Incorruptible bestows upon its listeners a ceaseless supply of killer riffs, a cavalcade of righteous vocals, a storm of drums, and continuous volleys of jaw-dropping solos.

Certainly, after 27 years of releasing albums and 666 minutes-or thereabouts-of music, the multi-national band, with Schaffer at the helm, show no signs of slowing down, getting old, or venturing off the deep end.

With a new lineup reconfigured, a newly completed Iced Earth headquarters to call home, a new record in ready for hails and headbangs, all powered by Schaffer's indestructible drive and infinite engine, it's clear Iced Earth are making 2017 their banner year. Songs like 'Clear the Way', 'Black Flag', 'Raven Wing', 'Ghost Dance (Awaken the Ancestors)', and 'Great Heathen Army' are destined for the halls of heavy metal greatness. In fact, Incorruptible is special. A contemporary classic. A legendary record barely out of the gate. It just feels like a record of import.

    Piedmont Apocrypha

"I was born to lose; I won't have this form forever." So begins Horseback's fifth full-length studio record, Piedmont Apocrypha, with an incantation that could very well serve as the shapeshifting band's raison d'être. Since before 2007, Horseback has served as a musical vehicle for multi-instrumentalist Jenks Miller (also of Mount Moriah and various solo outfits), chronicling his prolific, exuberant, and at times altogether whimsical investigation of heavy music(s) and their relationship with Western mysticism. Thus far, Horseback has embodied (and shed) many forms, from the serene, fuzzed-out, near neo classical bliss of Impale Golden Horn, to the caustic, poisoned noisescapes of Forbidden Planet, to the crushing psych-rock (black metal? you tell us!) found on The Invisible Mountain and Half Blood. While genre tags are difficult with shape-shifting bands like Horseback, some common threads are readily apparent across each of these records: regardless of the style, there's some otherworldly, hypnotic quality in the music, conjured by ritualistic repetition and a layered depth in the instrumental arrangements. And each record demonstrates an unmistakable internal logic, its own a self-contained universe of sound. Some have referred to Horseback records as riddles to be solved: once you crack the code, that sonic universe is yours to explore. Musically, Piedmont Apocrypha gestures to the pastoral hues of Impale Golden Horn (released on vinyl by Three Lobed for the first time in 2012), but there's a structured quality to the tracks here that fits in line with Horseback's "rock" records. Make no mistake: this is a heavy record, but in the way Comus' First Utterance is heavy, or in the way Amon DÜÜl's Phallus Dei is heavy. It's that patient, smoke-clogged, ritualistic vibe, solemn with the noticeable presence of layered organ and harmonium tones (perhaps a subtle nod to Terry Riley or even Olivier Messiaen). Indeed, for all its far-reaching strangeness, Piedmont Apocrypha may be the most approachable Horseback record yet: harsh vocals are used sparingly, sung (and otherwise intelligible) vocals are relatively prominent, and paint-peeling, high-frequency noise is almost entirely absent. As one might expect from its title, this record is also heavy with a sense of place. Thematically, Piedmont Apocrypha takes on the skin-shedding revisionist history of North Carolina's piedmont region, a place of conflict, proud culture(s), and intertwined mythologies. The fact that both Three Lobed (Jamestown, NC) and Phil Blank (Chapel Hill, NC) are involved further emphasizes this record's ties to the Tar Heel State.

Back in 2011, four individuals hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, decided to form a band from the ashes of a previous musical endeavor, and thus, Islander was born. Just under a year later, in March of 2012, the group released their debut EP, Side Effects of Youth. Since then the heavy rock foursome has been slowly gaining more and more notoriety, especially after releasing the music video for their song "Death is the Shepherd", which features guest vocals from Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. Islander's sophomore EP, entitled Pains., is set to release in 2014.

    Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes

Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks is the first studio album by Finnish rock legends Hanoi Rocks, released in 1981. Producing themselves, the band took the energy and D.I.Y. attitude of the punk movement, and fused it with a love for glam rock to create an in-your-face sonic attack. Their first release is heavy on melody and full of bravado. Lead singer Michael Monroe doesn't have the best voice in the world, but delivers the lyrics with a perpetual sneer that gives him character. The band never fails to lock into a solid groove and serve up highly melodic, high-octane rock.

Includes It's Funky Enough, The D.O.C. And The Doctor Featuring Dr. Dre, No One Can Do It Better And Portrait Of A Master Piece

The D.O.C., short for Department of Correction, is a highly skilled battle rhymer from Dallas, USA. In addition to his solo career, he was a member of the hip hop group Fila Fresh Crew and later collaborated with gangsta rap group N.W.A where he co-wrote many of their releases. After Fila Fresh Crew split up in 1988, The D.O.C. went on to pursue a successful solo career.

No One Can Do It Better is the debut album by The D.O.C. from 1989 and is produced by the then upcoming Dr. Dre who contributed on most of the fast hard hitting rap tracks with his heavy funk laden beats. The album reached number one on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for two weeks and spawned two number one hits on the Hot Rap Songs chart: It's Funky Enough and The D.O.C. & The Doctor. The album went platinum five years after its release.

Tragically The D.O.C. severed his vocal chords in an almost fatal car accident in November 1989 but No One Can Do It Better still stands the test of time as one of the early pre-Chronic albums.
