Krokus was formed in 1974 as a primarily prog rock act. Chris von Rohr, originally the bassist, switched to lead vocals in the late 1970s and with that formation Krokus was successful in Switzerland, touring throughout the country. After seeing AC/DC in concert in the late 70s, they decided to change their musical direction and adopted a new sound which was heavily influenced by the band. Hardware, was recorded at the Roundhouse Studios in London and featured such songs as Easy Rocker and Rock City, which are still a part of the band's live repertoire today.

    Phantom Vibrate EP

LuckyMe are very proud to present Jacques Greene's Phantom Vibrate EP, a three track club 12" of JGs most sophisticated songs to date. Phantom Vibrate explores themes of human interaction with technology as he embarks on a new hardware show and string of headline launch events in the three cities that helped model his signature blend of techno, house & contemporary R&B: Brooklyn, Montreal & London.

Now residing in New York, Jacques Greene is a producer helping define the next template for dance music - something not beholden to purist abstract language of what's 'real' house music or techno. No, JG is singularly absorbing experimental influences, hip hop & R&B. It's ironic then that should the old guard of dance music take notice of this artist. Greene continues to write on analogue hardware - he's DJ sets a journey through Chicago and Detroit, albeit ending up in the contemporary hubs of London & Atlanta. Since his early releases The Look, Another Girl and last summers massive On Your Side featuring How To Dress Well - he has proven himself as an artist who doesn't think in tracks. These are considered EPs with deliberate aesthetic themes. 'No Excuse', sees JG dust off his trademark vocal phrasing but here there's another layer of intensity to his previous tracks. The vocals aren't central this time. This track is about hard shuffling taikos and owes more to hip hop production while 'Feel What' is euphoric gospel house. The sample is processed into a plate chorus that lifts a rhythm section of jacking hats and Prince-esque chords. It's ascendant, reaching a hazey pinnacle before disappearing under sparkling synths. B2 'Night Tracking' is on ode to JG's old club night in Montreal that was responsible for refining his tastes and cutting his teeth alongside many legends. The track is pure hardware work out - and yet it's cinematic in its evocation of dark dancefloors & midnight car rides. Just like so much of Greene's music, it's alive and deeply visual.

"The Breadwinners" is the name for Mancunian multi-instrumentalist, composer, engineer and
producer Alan Redfern, and a cast of guests that includes Big Youth on one track. Redfern's growing
reputation has led him to mixing some of Gregory Isaacs' very last recordings, produced by Sly &
Robbie, which are unreleased to date but have earned Sly & Robbie's approval. Working in his all-analogue studio, equipped with specific pieces of
hardware associated with Lee "Scratch" Perry's
unique Black Ark sound, in particular the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase and Roland Space Echo, Redfern has produced hundreds of tracks over the past 5 or 6 years. Some of the best are presented here on the "Dubs Unlimited" album.

7'' vinyl single with picture sleeve

The mysterious goth milquetoast 'Mildred' appeared before Jack White at a hardware store in Kentucky. She had no demo to give, nor guitar with her, so instead she sang her song 'I Like My Mice (Dead)' at the top of her lungs in front of several hardware store customers before quickly walking out of the store in shy earnest. Mr. White immediately followed her to the sidewalk and signed her to a Third Man single contract.

She hails from the Mammoth Cave area, but hasnt given the staff an age, or current address! (...dont worry well be holding her royalty checks here for her.)
In fact her mother dropped her off at Third Man studio for the single session and waited patiently in a Winnebago outside the studio until Mildred was done recording. Mildred showed up with a very cool Gretsch Princess guitar but called it a 'Gitch'. Her band The Mice were even less forthcoming than she was, asking only for a copy of the record when it was done. Luckily, we were able to snap a few shots of them at the Third Man headquarters before they headed back to Kentucky.

The two songs available now are nothing short of remarkable, and were recorded live to 8 track in one take.
Jack White has given this recording the special Third Man catalog number of #003 stating; 'this is exactly the kind of record we want to put out.'

The follow-up to 2011s Looping State of Mind, a press release for the album claims that it's darker and slower than past Field records, and the first from Axel Willner to be hardware only - no computers. Regular fans of The Field will note the change in the artwork - whereas past Field records have always used light backgrounds, this one's dark grey.

"When I started to work on Cupid's Head it was quite awkward", claims Willner. "I felt that I had nothing to put into a new album and I´m not the type to sit down and force something out in the studio. But then, after a few modest attempts, I got a first loop together and running which turned out (in a short time) to be 'No.No '. It was a revelation of sorts as making it felt new to me, and different, and that's when it all came out."

    Whorl

In April, Simian Mobile Disco trekked out to the Southern California desert, taking with them their new live set up - two modular synths, two sequencers, and a mixer. Over a period of three days, they jammed and rehearsed in the desert, culminating in a one off sold out live show at Pappy & Harriet's, Pioneertown, allowing 900 fans to witness part of the recording process.

Those sessions, taped under the desert sky, became the basis for their brand new album / live project "Whorl". Now, after completing mixing and mastering, they are pleased to announce that the final studio album will be released through Anti- Records (Tom Waits, Kate Bush).

SMD's new live system was born out of a desire to challenge themselves - to remove computers altogether, going back to hardware sequencers, and limiting themselves to a suitcase sized rack of modular synth gear each -which both reduces the sound palette but allows much more hands on, real time manipulation - constraining themselves technically, to free themselves up musically.

Jas, on the recording process - "The recordings we did in the studio while we were writing and rehearsing the new material for Whorl were simply live takes - the system we're using has limited ability to save patterns in the sequencer, but nothing like the flexibility of a computer. Live performance and studio composition are essentially now the same process, rather than the common method of writing a track using the computer, and then working out ways to perform it live. We planned not to slavishly limit ourselves just to this performance - when we came to mixdown the album, we used portions of three sessions - the show itself, an extended jam we did in the desert the day before, and a little of our London studio rehearsal. Future live performances of Whorl are currently being planned, with a full list of tour dates to come - each show will be a live recreation of that recording process, so each time "Whorl" will be slightly different.

To reflect the organic, analogue aims of the new musical set up, long time SMD art & video collaborators Jack Featherstone & Hans Lo have built a complimentary bespoke hardware system to create the album's visual aesthetic. The system involves feeding live generated digital content through an oscilloscope, filming the oscilloscope's screen, then further processing the image produced. This system will be used in forthcoming videos and SMD's live shows (it was debuted at Sonar this weekend). The cover image is a still grabbed from one of these oscilloscope jams, capturing a moment of flux in performance.

The accompanying trailer showcases all the elements of the Whorl project, including the desert valley where the rehearsal/jam was recorded, the landscape that inspired the performances, the oscilloscope visuals and the show at Pappy & Harriets. In the coming weeks, further video pieces will explore different elements in more detail. The video is set to a short excerpt of "Tangents".

A versatile asynchronous 24 bit/192k USB converterfeaturing an XMOS based circuit, low-jitter clocks, multiple digital outputs, Wolfson DAC and high-resolution volume control.

    Audio Circuit

The heart of the system is our XMOS based circuit utilizing extremely low-jitter clocks. Multiple digital outputs are available via isolated 75 ohm BNC (with included 75 ohm RCA adapter) and two individually buffered I2S outputs.

    High Quality DAC

In addition to the digital outputs, Transient also provides Digital to Analog conversion. The conversion is done by a Wolfson circuit with a built-in high resolution volume control and 2V RMS output. A microprocessor circuit allows configuration for fixed (line level) output, or variable volume control, and also indicates the sampling frequency of the incoming signal.

    Chassis and Build

Highest quality parts are used throughout: Nichicon Muse & 2% tolerance polypropylene power supply capacitors, Takman resistors and WIMA polypropylene capacitors for signal circuits, and Canare BNC connector. The shielded anti-resonant chassis is 1/8 thick T6061 aluminum with 3/16" thick front panel, and all hardware is non-magnetic stainless steel.

The Prestige (and upscale Reference) cartridges from Grado are the first released since the elder Grado's retirement, but they mark an evolution, not dramatic change, of the classic Grado style. There are three basic levels in the Prestige lineup: Black/Green, Blue/Red, and Silver/Gold. In each of these pairings, the latter model is the same as the former, but is able to meet more astringent test specifications. The Green, for instance, is taken from the top 15% of the Black models production.

The newly redesigned Black1 and Green1 have had their coil design reconfigured, and the effective moving mass of their generating system has been reduced by 17%. The Black1 and Green1 models use a three piece OTL cantilever technology, standard oxygen free wire in the coils and Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted in a brass bushing. The Green1 model is selected from the Black1 production run and meets higher test specifications. Approximately 15% of the production run will meet these standards and become Green1 models.

The Prestige Green is furnished with suitable mounting hardware and the unique tool required to separate stylus assembly from cartridge body. Separating the stylus assembly from the cartridge body with the tool can be tricky, so proceed with caution, lest you end up with the cartridge body in your hand and the stylus embedded in a nearby wall.

One review states: an there be anything much better? Well, there can: the Signature handily tops the Green in terms of the detail, depth and overload point. However, with a $60.00 list price, the Grado Prestige Green is a cartridge most people will find thoroughly enjoyable for nearly all kinds of music, especially if their system is very slightly laid back. At it's price, it simply can't be beaten! If you have a moderately-priced turntable lurking in your closet, pull it out, get a Grado prestige Green, install it and LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. You'll enjoy!

    Joy One Mile

Stellar OM Source's new album, Joy One Mile, marks a certain and spirited departure
into worlds unknown. A faithful leap into the infinite beat, Joy One Mile is the most
forward-reaching effort by Stellar OM Source yet.
Stellar OM Source originated from Christelle Gualdi's desire to unhinge from her
academic musical upbringing. A double bassist in the Konigin Katharina Stift
Schulorchester and a student of music theory at UniversitÉ Paris VIII, Gualdi
completed her studies in electro-acoustic composition at the Conservatoire de Paris
    after earning an architecture degree.

The process of Gualdi's "unlearning" began in experimental ensemble settings,
and it became more recognizable as she moved toward solo performance.
Stellar OM Source's name is fittingly inspired in part by the pathway to higher
consciousness and cosmos via one's own voice.

Gualdi was also inspired by-and also an integral member of-the late aughts
DIY synthesizer community. Alongside Oneohtrix Point Never, Emeralds and James Ferraro,
Stellar OM Source's stream of self-released CDRs defined a zeitgeist of artists
trending away from their noisy roots via polyphonic escapism.

Based many miles away from her US counterparts in The Hague, South Holland,
Gualdi received a prophetic sign in 2010 when a regional eBay seller offered her
a mint Roland TB-303 for a mere €25-or $33. The instantly identifiable sounds of
the analog bass synthesizer began appearing in Gualdi's studio and live practices.
By virtue of her many aspirations and the array of hardware that Gualdi brought
to the table, Joy One Mile took shape in chaos. Where this disorder might cripple
others, Gualdi's response was energetically and emotionally charged.

The freedom from form that Gualdi sought with Joy One Mile was ultimately
obtained, but the severe surge of the finished recordings left her over stimulated.
Striking a dialogue with Gunnar Wendel (aka Kassem Mosse), Gualdi realized an
objective opinion and arrangement know how would allow clarity and an even
greater freedom-that from her own music.

The singularity of Gualdi's compositions, when pulled back and recalibrated even
slightly, resemble early era Warp Records, and, by that admission, the wayward
electro of early-90s Detroit. The abstractions in Gualdi's programming and mutant
melodies is what keeps Joy One Mile perfectly relegated to outsider status, akin to
the primitive techno of Esplendor Geometrico and Chris & Cosey

    Syndrome Syndrome

Syndrome Syndrome is Gardland's debut fulllength album. Its timely release captures the
fever pitch of Gardland's off-kilter electronic
music at the tail end of the group's first year.

Assertive, though "elegantly wasted," as they describe it, Gardland is the laboriously
cracked energy exchange of alex murray and mark smith. The duo solidified the young
partnership during a psychedelic desert excursion far from their urban dwellings in
Sydney, Australia. Over a ten-day stretch, Murray and Smith recorded hardware based
wigouts with neither boundary nor fear of judgment from the godheads that loomed
    ominously over the lysergic liturgy.

Gardland shared a swathe of this desert delirium as the first release via their newly
formed Hunter Gatherers label. With this gesture, they posed a new paradigm for
    Sydney's sometimes-static social-musical consciousness by delivering uncompromising
electronic music rife with rigor and real-deal feel.

Syndrome Syndrome was written and recorded in a small room over a series of slavishly
inspired sessions. Living within earshot of each other, Murray and Smith bucked the
unconventional confab this comfort allows in favor of a workingman's deftness. In the
middle of this process, Gardland's primary synthesizers were stolen at a gig. Impervious
and industrious, the blank slate catalyzed their creative flow instead of stunting it,
eventually filling to the frame with the eleven uneasy pieces of Syndrome Syndrome.

If linearity in techno / house is the convention, Syndrome Syndrome avoids flat-lining in
its spiral and fractal formations. The beats here don't "drop", they appear erratically in
uncertain quantum logic. The harmonic architecture forms cavernous canopies in place
of metronomic melodies, while the convulsive human hand lays tonal tile that may or
    may not crumble on contact.

Perhaps the most revelatory aspect to Murray and Smith's desert quest was their willing
submission to co-exist with disorder - to have and to stranglehold for better or for
worse. That transcendence only explains the psychosomatic palettes of Syndrome
Syndrome though. The distinct other-ness of Gardland's reach succeeds by laying waste
to compositional clichÉ, by mining the full contour and imperfections of electronic music
shapes, and by allowing ghost narratives back into aperture to cause chaos and a spot
    of fun.

How did a Wisconsin chair company, producing records on the cheap and run by men with little knowledge of their audience or the music business, build one of the greatest musical rosters ever assembled under one roof? The answer lies in 'The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932,' an epic, two-volume omnibus of art, words and music housed in a limited-edition, hand-sculpted cabinet-of-wonder, to be jointly released by Jack White's Third Man Records and John Fahey's Revenant Records.

'Volume One,' which covers the label's improbable rise from 1917-1927, will be released exclusively through Third Man on October 29, and worldwide on November 19. The project is co-produced by leading Paramount authority Alex van der Tuuk, and 'Volume 2' will be released in November 2014.

Paramount Records was founded on a modest proposition: produce records as cheaply as possible, recording whatever talent was available. Over its lifetime, the label would become a "race records" powerhouse, its sound and fortunes directly linked to the Great Migration.

By the time Paramount ceased operations in 1932, it had compiled a dizzying array of performers still unrivaled to this day, spanning early jazz titans (Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller), blues masters (Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Son House, Skip James), American divas (Ma Rainey, Alberta Hunter, Ethel Waters), gospel (Norfolk Jubilee Quartette), vaudeville (Papa Charlie Jackson), and the indefinable "other" (Geeshie Wiley, Elvie Thomas). Paramount would also directly influence the style of Robert Crumb and countless other 20th century artists and illustrators, through a series of hand-drawn ads promoting its releases in the pages of the Chicago Defender.

The 'Rise and Fall' wonder-cabinet gives equal status to page-turning narrative and new scholarship; original and newly created graphic art; industrial design; and compelling analog and digital music experiences.

6 LPs feature 87 tracks from the collection.

USB Drive contains 800 digital tracks by 172 artists across the Paramount family of labels, including the earliest recordings of:
King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Blind Blake, Fats Waller, Ma Rainey, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Fletcher Henderson, Alberta Hunter, Papa Charlie Jackson, Ethel Waters, Coleman Hawkins, Johnny and Baby Dodds, Bo Weavil Jackson, Jimmy O'Bryant, Buddy Boy Hawkins, Tiny Parham, Jimmy Blythe, and Jaybird Coleman.

Ultra High quality laminations, lower inductance and superior sound. These transformers were especially designed and tested with several low-output moving coil cartridges. These are very difficult transformers to construct and require a precision manufacturing process that can only be done by David Geren at CineMag. The same construction techniques are used as in the 1131, except that the inductance of the SKY 30 is even lower due to the lower step up ratios.

Hand Crafted, Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge Step-up Transformer (SUT) built with new CineMag SKY 30 (Blue Version) Transformers and gold plated hardware in a hand polished black powder coated cast-aluminum enclosure. All lettering is laser etched. Included are 2 switches: high/low gain and ground/lift.

Includes premium construction with C&K Brand Silver contact toggle switches, and Deluxe Gold Plated RCA jacks.

These specially designed transformers are wired to connect a moving coil cartridge (on a turntable) to a phono preamplifier, phono input of a receiver, or your preamp's phono input.

Switchable for 1:15 (24 dB gain) or 1:30 (30 dB gain).

Into a standard 47k phono preamp, the effective input impedance of the low gain (1:15 ratio) is 209 ohms. At 1:30, the effective input impedance is 52 ohms.

The 1:30 ratio is perfect for most low output cartridges.

    Construction Techniques:

All connections are Resistance soldered using the American Beauty system which avoids heat damage to the delicate insulation on the hair-like wires of the transformers. Test equipment is very low current to avoid saturating the transformer cores. You can count on a premier product that is state-of-the-art.

This unit includes a grounding post that can be used to connect your turntable ground and your preamplifier ground. It also includes a ground lift switch. In all modes, the transformer cases and faraday shield internal to the transformers are connected to the ground screw. In the ground mode, the phono system minus sides (negative sides) are connected to the grounding lug. This configuration works well for those systems where the turntable ground is connected to the negative leads coming from the phono cartridge or where the negative inputs to the preamp are internally connected to ground. In the lift mode, none of the conductors in the RCA jacks are connected to the case, ground, or shield and there is no electrical connection between channels. This design allows you much flexibility to mitigate for ground loops regardless of the configuration of your other equipment.
