    Never Trust A Happy Song

Never Trust A Happy Song is the debut album from LA indie-rockers Grouplove. The release is a brawny, ecstatic album filled with ambitious, varied, expansive, tunes underscored by crisp percussion and killer harmonies. The variety in the musical taste and writing styles of each member really makes each of our songs unique, drummer/producer Ryan Rabin explains. The honest, open-minded process we go through in rehearsal and in the studio brings the songs home and gives them the 'Grouplove' sound.

Under the Grouplove banner, Colours, became a delicate but powerful slow/fast jam. Itchin On A Photograph is a soaring epic propelled by spacey guitar licks and vigorous handclaps. And Tongue Tied, is an electronic infused dance anthem that showcases the bands obsession with careening harmonies.

Hannah Hooper (keyboards), Andrew Wessen (guitar) and Sean Gadd (bass) all share vocal duties and take their turn fronting the band, though Christian Zucconi (guitar) sings lead on most songs, Ryan produces all of their material, and all five bandmembers receive songwriting credit on every tune: Grouplove is a true collaboration.

The albums title initially seems ironic: on the surface the bands vibe comes off as happy, the songs soar with a kind of shimmering, youthful exuberance. But just beneath that sunny sheen, there is a reservoir of longing and melancholy. The Grouplove signature is blending those two pillars of life: sorrow and joy. Hannah explains, As individuals we are heavier, darker, but when we are together we bring the love.

    Kids In Love

Love is all you need. It's been said many times and many ways of course, but it's truer now than ever.

When The Mowgli's first landed on the scene, their message of positivity and love resonated with audiences everywhere. The group's 2013 major label debut, Waiting for the Dawn [Photo Finish], debuted at #4 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and yielded the hit "San Francisco". Following its release, the seven-piece-Colin Louis Dieden [vocals, guitar], Katie Jayne Earl [vocals, percussion], Dave Appelbaum [keyboards], Josh Hogan [guitar, vocals], Matthew Di Panni [bass], Spencer Trent [guitar, vocals], and Andy Warren [drums]-performed on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CONAN, Watch What Happens Live, and more. Between headline tours and runs supporting everybody from Walk The Moon to Manchester Orchestra, they even cut a song for the Relativity Media hit film Earth To Echo. Along the way, their interpretation of love became even clearer, and it defines their sophomore outing, Kids In Love.

"Our first album essentially said, 'What's up everyone? We're The Mowgli's, and we believe love can change the world," explains Katie. "Over the past couple of years, we really came to terms with who we are as a band. With Kids In Love we're exploring the intricacies of love. It's such a broad concept. This time around, we get into intimate love, personal love, as well as universal love. We've found art is the best vehicle to ponder what this really means."

"Before, the concept was painted in very broad strokes," Colin goes on. "Our intention was to start a movement and a culture around what we do. We put all of that under a microscope on this album and talked about personal experiences and stories, the lack of love, and finding it again."

"We've learned so much about the business, ourselves, and this message," adds Josh. "We've become more direct. It's a little wiser."

In order to properly convey that sentiment, the group teamed up with producer Tony Hoffer [The Kooks, Silversun Pickups, Fitz & The Tantrums] in his Los Angeles studio during the summer of 2014. With Hoffer at the helm, they fine-tuned their sound into an elegant amalgam of influences. Additionally, they recorded with prior collaborators Captain Cuts [Smallpools, Tove Lo] - a production team that includes Ryan Rabin of Grouplove, and worked with Matt Radosevich [Walk The Moon, One Direction] on two additional tracks. "We wanted to create songs that we knew we would enjoy playing live, songs we hoped that speak to people's personal experiences with love and life and loss and everything that comes with being a kid - or really anyone - in love," Katie explains.

"We've been on tour incessantly, and this album was really written all over the country," Colin recalls. "It was composed in green rooms, hotels, parking lots, and everywhere in between. I went to Nashville for a week on a whim and tried to learn how to write country music. I was so lucky to work with some of the best in the business. I wanted to bring some of those storytelling elements into the music too. We really grew up, and the songs reflect that journey."

The first released track "Through The Dark" builds from a shimmering acoustic guitar into an unshakable harmony between Josh and Colin. It shines its own kind of musical light.

"Everybody goes through dark times," Josh asserts. "We're trying to put a positive spin on that though, and show you can get through that darkness no matter what."

Colin continues, "In a weird way, it feels like the answer to Waiting for the Dawn. It's a hopeful and encouraging song."

Then, there's the first single "I'm Good." It begins with a sun-soaked clean guitar and resounding percussion before snapping into a delightful refrain that's undeniably unforgettable. You'll feel good after one listen

Elsewhere on the album, "Whatever Forever" is augmented by driving handclaps and a group chorus that proves infectious. Lyrically, it stemmed from some shared ink within the band. "Colin and I both got a tattoo of that phrase a few years ago in a hotel bar during Hurricane Sandy," smiles Josh. "We'd seen it on the wall of a bar, and it felt like the perfect new life motto. We're not worried about anything; we're just going for it."

"That's a personal favorite," concurs Colin. "After one show, I had a girl walk up to me and say, 'I've been dealing with so much and hurting so badly. I adopted 'Whatever Forever' as my mantra. I needed that.' Sometimes, you need to distance yourself from what hurts."

Ultimately, The Mowgli's open up their hearts once more, and the results are nothing short of inspiring. "We just want people to feel good," Katie concludes. "It's a domino effect. If someone leaves a show feeling great, maybe they pay it forward. If we can contribute a little bit of joy, companionship, and happiness, we're doing our part to make the world a little brighter."

"I want them to feel inspired to do something positive," Josh agrees. "It's all about sharing that." Colin leaves off, "I want this to be a positive transformative experience. It's almost like falling in love. When you're in a good mood, you tend to react positively. I hope it adds more positivity and love to the world."

    Spreading Rumours

Spreading Rumors is Grouplove's second full-length album.

Hannah Hooper met Christian Zucconi late one evening on the lower east side of Manhattan. They had both been living in New York for years and had never crossed paths before. But from that night forward the two could hardly be pulled apart. Soon after their connection Hooper was invited to an art residency in Greece on the island of Crete and Hooper insists without any hesitation she invited Zucconi to join her on this journey. Seriously, we had only known one another for a few days but are both so inspired and alive when we are together that going to Greece seemed like a magical and natural thing to do recalls Zucconi.

On Crete, in a small remote mountain village, Hooper and Zucconi met the members of their future band Grouplove a year before it was officially formed. Sean Gadd, a natural songwriter and guitar player, born and bred in London instantly bonded with the two eccentric New Yorkers. Their relationship became apparent through the music they were making day in and day out. Andrew Wessen, a pro surfer and musician from Los Angeles and his childhood friend Ryan Rabin, an accomplished drummer and producer, were also at the residency and quickly joined in with the musical trio. These five musicians make up the members of what we now know as Grouplove.

Like all good things, the summer and the residency came to an end and the five friends scattered back to their homes all over the globe. With Sean in London, Christian and Hannah in Brooklyn and Ryan and Andrew in Los Angeles Grouplove was faced with the challenge of what to do now. We all understood how rare it is for five strangers to feel as close as family and create passionate music together. We couldn't just return to Brooklyn and let the music we all made fade into a memory of that summer we had in Greece, explains Zucconi. Everyone pulled their funds together and Sean, Christian and Hannah made their way to Ryan Rabin's studio in LA to record their album. We seriously had the best time of our lives doing that record, says Zucconi. And the result is an incredibly special album where soaring harmonies coupled with sweeping anthems lead you through their powerful journey. Like the members of Grouplove, their music is diverse in influence and style but bonded together by an undeniably creative kinship.

Their experience back together and recording together was so potent that Hooper and Zucconi packed up their lives in Brooklyn and moved to LA to live and play their music.

We never could have dreamt this up says Zucconi, but at the same time we're not at all surprised - GROUPLOVE is meant to be. Our story a testament to fate, and our music is something we are ready to share.

Many bands just fail at what they're trying to do. Not Aloke. - Punk News

Aloke is a New York band, featuring Christian Zucconi of the indie rock collective Grouplove. Their new EP as well as upcoming full length were recorded with legendary producer and noise merchant Steve Albini. Aloke all grew up together in a working class town thirty miles north of the city- Ossining, New York, best known for housing Sing Sing prison, Zucconi recalled about the band's humble beginnings and the artistic town which fostered their creativity. Today, bassist Paul DeCourcey makes and build guitars there. Lead guitarist Alex Walker is a classically trained and touring guitarist and drummer Alex Charpentier is a filmmaker and producer and a beast behind the kit. So there is something in the air, water or whatever in Ossining, which appears to be a breeding ground for artistic pursuits.

    Big Mess

Pressed On Mixed Red & Yellow Colored Vinyl

Recorded in Los Angeles and Seattle with producers Captain Cuts (Grouplove's own Ryan Rabin) and Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, The Shins), Big Mess features the signature anthemic choruses and infectious hooks that first brought the Los Angeles quintet to prominence through hits like "Tongue Tied," "Colours," and "Ways To Go." No stranger to the worldwide festival circuit, Grouplove has made an album that brilliantly showcases their richly narrated songs with elaborate production.

We made this album at an important crossroads in our lives, and it was a dream come true to be able to work with Phil Ek up in Seattle and with Ryan down in LA. We're extremely excited for the world to hear it!" offered singer/guitarist Christian Zucconi.

The Fault In Our Stars: Music From The Motion Picture

The Fault in Our Stars-Music from the Motion Picture is the musical companion to the eagerly awaited drama from 20th Century Fox. The soundtrack gathers new material from some of the Atlantic Records Group's most compelling artists, among them Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Grouplove, Lykke Li, and Birdy, who contributes three tracks including a special duet with fellow Atlantic artist Jaymes Young. As if that weren't enough, the album further features a selection of songs from such rising stars as M83, Tom Odell, Jake Bugg, Kodaline, and STRFKR, among others. Grammy Award-winning soundtrack producer Kevin Weaver (Boardwalk Empire, True Blood - Volumes 1 & 2) and music supervisor Season Kent (The Fighter, Entourage, Need for Speed) served as the soundtrack's producers.

In the film, Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share anacerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them -- and us - on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.

The film is directed by Josh Boone, written by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, based upon the book by John Green, and the producers are Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. Also starring are Laura Dern, Sam Tramell, Nat Wolff and Willem Dafoe.

    What's Real

Dear Listener / Internet Surfer / Intrigued Music Consumer-

Thank for you for taking the time to read about our new record, What's Real. We have been working on this album for the better part of two years. Or maybe I have been working on this album since I was 14. That was when I first heard the bands that made me want to pick up the guitar and learn to play. When I became consumed over the angst, the freedom, the recklessness of rock and roll, the escape it created and allowed, and the feeling of unity with anyone who was discovering and finding the same.

I started writing this album as soon as we got home from touring behind our debut record Out In The Light. All of a sudden, I was sitting still for the first time in years, and I dove into my early musical influences to find that what I once thought were alternative anthems of recklessness, of angst, of societal alienation, were also perfectly constructed songs. It wasn't pop. But it became popular for a reason. And as a songwriter I began to see that music in a new light.

I approached this album from that place. From a place of seeing that songs can sound big, feel big, and still be incredibly personal. Still be brutally honest. Still leave everything on the table. And while current alternative radio is pumping out songs about the "best day of my life" and "wanting to be like the cool kids", I wanted to write songs about heartbreak, about finding clarity, about feeling stuck in your hometown. And I wrote it with the hope that people connect with it in a visceral way. In an emotional way. The way I am connecting to it. A connection I feel is not as expected these days.

This record was recorded over a 15 month period while I was living in San Francisco and taking road trips down to record with friend and Grouplove producer/drummer Ryan Rabin. The first song we recorded together was "Got To My Head". He got where I was coming from and became my collaborator throughout the majority of the process. We pushed this record to the extremes, trying to fit as many hooks at times, capturing throat wrenching vocal takes at others. I was writing while recording. A lot of the writing takes on past tragic relationships I have since moved on from. "I Feel Everything" is a song about the addiction of abusive and extreme relationships, "Over It" is a song about finally getting out of it, and "What's Real" is about the constant struggle to weed out the impersonal and temporary relationships and yearning for something more. The songs came from desperate times. They came from a place where I would rather be in any situation than the one I was in. Some of them were written while in it, some of them are reflection.

I recorded a handful of the songs with another producer Carlos De La Garza. Among those are "Rebel Yell", a song about longing for the drive to care about the state of the world like I once did so intensely, but has faded with the distractions of adulthood, and "Mom And Dad's," a song about the realities of having to move back in with your parents after you thought you were gone for good, and finding everything both completely changed and exactly the same.

This record could not have been possible without my band. I met them all while living in San Francisco. It's a new band from the last record. Andrew Wales plays Drums. Brian DaMert plays Guitar. Greg Sellin plays Bass. And Sara DaMert plays Keys. They have helped me take these songs from my headphones to the stage and have realized them in the greatest way possible. they do them every justice I could have asked. I am so grateful to have them.

When we finished the record I felt like we had made a sonic place. It felt like my bedroom in high school. We accomplished my goal in providing a world for someone who needs a real alternative. An escape. I don't care if that sounds cheesy. I am not worried about it. Come to our shows. Participate in the energy. We will leave it all on the table. We expect the audience to as well. There is something really rewarding in doing so. It's what I dreamt about when I was 14 and started playing guitar. It's what I still dream about today. It's What's Real.

    Love,

    Jessie Jones

In 2013, Jessie Jones gave up her possessions, vanished into the nothingness of farm country, and found herself on interstellar overdrive - far away from her Disneyfied home in Orange County. For three years, she had fronted Burger Records' Feeding People, OC's answer to Black Sabbath. The teenage byproduct of gloomy acid trips and gospel choirs, Feeding People released two albums, got signed to Innovative Leisure in 2011, and played Low End Theory with Radiohead's Thom Yorke . The 19-year-old Jones, with her bluesy growl and whimsical melodies, was being compared to Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and Screaming Females' Marissa Paternoster. In 2014, her voice returned to her with primal intent - like the caterwauling echoes of coyotes deep in the Hollywood hills. Earlier this year, Jones began singing with paranormal proto-punk outfit Death Valley Girls, which allowed her to release her demons and find salvation during what Jones describes as the most cosmically ordained project of her life. Reveling in the quantum wobble of her own alternative reality, Jones is now releasing her self-titled debut on Burger Records by channeling the voices in her head; not quite the sanitarium blues of Roky Erickson, but a m√Člange of Jim Morrison mysticism; a more stripped-down MGMT meets early-Grouplove; and Syd Barrett reverie. Under the guidance of producer Bobby Harlow (The Go) and Burger's Studio B, Jones' debut this summer will include guest appearances by drummer Duke Mushroom, violinist Hannah Glass, and Studio B regular King Tuff.

    About Last Night

Sleeper Agent today announced their highly anticipated second album, entitled About Last Night, will be released on RCA Records / Mom & Pop.

"About Last Night is the product of countless hours spent writing, rewriting, recording, hoping, toiling, questioning, and ultimately pushing ourselves as a band as far as we could go," said Sleeper Agent's Alex Kandel. "It's a record that I can hear our band's history in every heartbreak, every victory, every night spent in the van, every audience we've been in front of are woven into the melodies and fabric of the songs."

About Last Night was born after principal songwriter Tony Smith started scribbling together song skeletons on tour. The group fleshed out those compositions after decamping their tour bus and shacking up together in a log cabin in Middle of Nowhere, East Kentucky. Instead of killing each other in their secluded camp, they watched The Godfather, cooked family dinners, and emerged five days later with 10 solid tracks. The songs were recorded in Nashville and Charleston with producers Jay Joyce and Eric Bass. About Last Night is the follow up to their 2011 debut Celabrasion.

About Last Night will follow up Sleeper Agent's heralded debut album Celabrasion, which was released by Mom + Pop in 2011 and immediately garnered the affectionate attention of the blogosphere straight to the top of the national music media - leading to prominent features on the pages on SPIN, Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Guitar World, Los Angeles Times, and many more. Rolling Stone hailed them as a Band To Watch and the group was named the #2 Best New Band in the annual Rolling Stone Reader's Poll. Sleeper Agent also won MTVu's Freshman Award in February 2012 and singer Alex Kandel was one of six artists to be nominated for Rolling Stone's Women Who Rock contest in 2012. The band toured nonstop throughout 2012, sharing the stage with Weezer, Fun., Grouplove, Young The Giant, Ben Kweller, The Joy Formidable, Manchester Orchestra, Circa Survive, Company of Thieves, and more.

Sleeper Agent is Alex Kandel (vocals), Tony Smith (guitar, vocals), Justin Wilson (drums), Lee Williams (bass), Scott Gardner (keys), and Josh Martin (guitar).
