Though never commercially successful, Paisley Underground darlings the Dream Syndicate were critically acclaimed and held up their version of neo-psychedelic rock n' roll through the vapid MTV-dominated synth years of the 1980s. Influenced by the Velvet Underground, Neil Young and Television, the Syndicate led by vocalist, guitarist and band leader, Steve Wynn, formed the original version of the band with guitarist Karl Precoda in 1982 after moving back to Los Angeles. Drummer Dennis Duck, who played in the Pasadena band, Human Hands, joined the Syndicate and suggested the band's name in reference to Tony Conrad's early 1960s NY experimental ensemble that included John Cale.
The band performed their first live show at Club Lingerie in Hollywood on Feb 23, 1982, and later signed to Slash Records' subsidiary, Ruby Records, releasing their enigmatic and best-known album, The Days of Wine and Roses. After a brief hiatus in the latter 1980s, Wynn, Duck and bassist Mark Walton joined with guitarist Paul Cutler who had produced the band's very first EP. By 1988, the band was on Enigma Records and began a relationship with producer Elliott Mazer, who produced Neil Young's Time Fades Away. Mazer produced Live at Raji's which showcased the band's long, feedback soaked improvisations and even though it was released AFTER the Mazer-produced studio album, Ghost Stories, it was recorded prior to that on Jan 31, 1988, at Raji's in Hollywood; not 1989 as originally listed on the album upon release.
What Run Out Groove presents here is the complete show, including 4 tracks making their debut on wax. Live at Raji's would see its release for the first time in the U.S., since the original vinyl album debuted in Europe back in 1989. If you like R.E.M., Mazzy Star, Rain Parade, Galaxie 500, Big Star, The Velvet Underground, Television and Grant Lee Buffalo you won't want to miss this title.LP 1

Remastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman from the Original Rudy Van Gelder Blue Note Master Tapes!
The Definitive issue of this classic Blue Note title!
Mono or Stereo? Rudy Van Gelder first began recording Blue Note sessions in stereo in March of 1957. From then until an October 30, 1958 Art Blakey session, Rudy simultaneously ran both mono and stereo session tapes. The stereo presentation revealed more air, more detail and more sheer life than the mono. The mono playback was a wonderful remembrance of the old LP we all knew and loved. The stereo playback from the original masters was eerie. It was like going back in time to that day in Rudy's studio. Quite simply, the stereo masters revealed more of what it was like to be there that day.
Why 45rpm? Simply...Because it sounds better! 180 gram pressings versus 200 gram? Music Matters, Lt. uses 180 gram pressings for the simple reason that they believe 180 gram weight is more than sufficient to provide a near perfect pressing. When Music Matters asked their friends at Record Technology Inc. for their recommendation to achieve the highest possible quality pressings their answer was unequivocal... go with 180 gram!
Upgrading Connections at Acoustech! It goes without saying that there are many controversies and debates in the perfectionist audio/LP collector market. But one area of near universal agreement is the quality of mastering that emerges from Kevin Gray's custom-built AcousTech Mastering studio in Camarillo, CA. Kevin, along with Steve Hoffman, has provided many of the best sounding new and reissued albums on LP during the last 5 or 6 years working outs of AcousTech.
Music Matters Exclusive! Music Matters strongly feels that these Blue Note recordings deserve nothing less than the finest graphic presentation. The Music Matters Definitive 45RPM Blue Note jackets are designed to last a lifetime, using ultra-durable extra thick cardboard stock and thick, luxurious lamination... quality you'll be able to feel in your hand the moment you pick up one of these albums. In addition, Music Matters has obtained exclusive access to a treasure trove of over 30,000 original Blue Note session photos from Mosaic Images for use in this series. The gatefold opens to display these session photos in stunning high resolution - four times sharper than original Blue Note jacket photos.
Hear what Michael Fremer, Wayne Garcia and others are saying about the Blue Note Definitive 45rpm Reissue Series from Music Matters, Ltd:
They're BIG and open and definitely work in stereo because they're not hard left/right stereo. The cymbals are so chimey and the skins so open! Even Rudy's typical boxy piano isn't too bad. These are going to be really good....!!!! (Real time reaction after hearing his first test pressing of Horace Parlan's Speakin' My Piece LP.) - Michael Fremer, Stereophile Magazine
I've heard a lot of Blue Note originals and myriad reissues over the years, but based on the sample test pressings heard so far, none-and I mean none-convey the intensity of living, breathing music-making the way the Music Matter's Blue Note series does. The sense of air, texture, and dynamic pop in these grooves is astonishing. - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound
Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers "The Big Beat" and Horace Parlan, "Speakin' My Piece." And if this is any indication of what's to come, I advise you to get on the list now, before this collection is sold out. - Albert Porter, www.positive-feedback.com
The Music Matters 45s have all immediacy and add a free-flowing naturalness that is surprising at first but very easy to get used to. - Marc Mickelson, www.soundstage.com
There is no real explanation for Lee Morgan's greatness. He emerged in 1956 as a precocious 18-year old already recording for Blue Note and performing as one of the stars of the Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra. He continued to grow during his years with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and in the 1960s was jazz's leading trumpeter. In 1965 when he recorded The Gigolo, Morgan was still only 27 yet had already created a lifetime of exciting music. On The Gigolo, he builds upon his earlier successes and plays with a brilliance only reached by the most immortal of jazz musicians. His four originals include the original version of his memorable blues Speed Ball, and he really digs into You Go To My Head. Hearing The Gigolo with its phenomenal sound and brilliant playing is a thrill that all jazz fans need to experience.

The albums are being cut at 45 RPM for maximum quality by Kevin Gray and me using our full ANALOG disk cutting system; most studios cannot even cut vinyl in 100% true analog anymore (they convert to digital first) but we can. The original Rudy Van Gelder engineered stereophonic session tapes are used when we master these gems. The sound quality is amazing on our test cuts. Like from heaven. First totally uncompressed versions of these jazz classics that I've ever heard and trust me, you will be impressed; they sound like no other releases of this music.
The sound is lifelike, the horns are in the room with you. Our non-invasive mastering insures the true breath of life on these original Van Gelder session tapes is transferred to the virgin vinyl with absolute authenticity. It is like hearing these BLUE NOTE masterpieces for the first time and that is NO exaggeration. When we heard the first lacquer acetate playback from our first mastering session I thought Joe Harley was going to pee in his pants he was so excited. Actually we all were; after 50 years of many lackluster and some downright bad sounding versions of these albums, hearing the real deal is a humbling experience, even for us hardened music veterans. You will be able to listen to the music exactly like we did... - Steve Hoffman

Dire Straits (45 RPM) (Pre-Order) (On Sale)
Dire Straits' Self-Titled 1978 Debut Distinguished By Jazz-Inflected Mix Of Folk, Blues, Country, And Rock: Guitarist Mark Knopfler Displays Uncanny Precision, Intricacy, And Texture
Mastered From The Original Master Tapes And Pressed At RTI For Optimal Sound: Mobile Fidelity 45RPM 2LP Set Engages With Natural Tones, Superb Balances, Reference Imaging, Sterling Clarity
Breakout Dire Straits Album Includes Sultans Of Swing And Down To The Waterline: Band's Shuffles, Boogies, And Ballads Spark With Crispness, Soulfulness, Coolness
Dire Straits' arresting self-titled debut arrived in the midst of punk's reign but couldn't have been further removed from the era's slash-and-burn style. Recorded in West London in February 1978, the band's tasteful, jazz-inflected set embraces folk, blues, and pub rock while also tracing a direct line back to the beat-oriented sound of early rock n' roll. Country and roots accents further distinguish the British quartet's stripped-down music from any 1970s peers, as does the transparent production, which has remained revered among audiophiles the world over - and which has never been better than on this meticulous analog pressing.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP version of Dire Straits features natural tonalities, superb balances, you-are-there imaging, deep-black backgrounds, and pristine clarity. Even if you've heard this album hundreds of times before, you've never experienced it with such lifelike sonics and premium richness. This numbered, limited-edition collector's set immerses you within the smoky, laidback atmospherics of every song. This is how all vinyl should sound.
Crucial to every arrangement, Mark Knopfler's winding guitar lines emerge with supreme transparency and multi-hued textural detail. His intricate playing comes across as if it's being transmitted via his 60s-era Fender Vibrolux amplifier placed right before you. The cleanliness, dimensions, and live feel are that good. His bandmates, too, benefit from the extra groove space afforded by this 45RPM edition. Rhythms skate and swirl; percussive effects resonate with crispness and attack; the leading edges of notes naturally decay.
Dire Straits' strong, well-edited batch of original material further enhances the overall enjoyment and makes the record one whose pleasures go far beyond the organic sonics. Just as Knopfler's narratives pour forth with poetic and surrealist texts, the musical settings - an intoxicating combination of easygoing shuffles, back-hall boogies, and pop-honed ballads - mirror the old-fashioned soulfulness inherent in the classic recordings of the late 50s and early 60s. The lyrics are equally captivating.
Drawing from his time as a youth in Newcastle, Leeds, and London, Knopfler invests tunes with an autobiographical slant and emotional connectivity that become obvious the moment he opens his mouth to sing. Down to the Waterline, Wild West End, and Lions all feature colloquial touches that add to their reach. By extension, In the Gallery functions as a tribute to Leeds sculptor Harry Phillips (father of future Knoplfer collaborator, Steve Phillips) while the record's breakout smash, Sultans of Swing, pays homage to struggling bar bands.
Through it all, Dire Straits performs with a subtle cool and clever poise that no band ever matched. Just how good is the chemistry? Bob Dylan heard the quartet and invited Knopfler and drummer Pick Withers to play on Slow Train Coming. But even Dylan himself didn't hear Dire Straits sound this magnetic back in its original heyday. Now, everyone can.

Field NotesWil Blades Field Notes features guitarist Jeff Parker of Tortoise and drummer Simon Lott from New Orleans.
"He is the future to carry on the legend, the legacy of the organ, of the B-3." - Dr. Lonnie Smith
When Wil Blades sits down at the Hammond B3, count on inspired music to follow. The 34-year old, Chicago-native, Berkeley-based artist is a cornerstone organist of his generation-a modern voice in a lineage that includes giants like Richard "Groove" Holmes, Charles Earland and Brother Jack McDuff.
Having studied at the feet of the legendary Dr. Lonnie Smith and played alongside the likes of John Lee Hooker, Melvin Sparks and Idris Muhammad, Blades has absorbed the spirit of the masters. His extensive collaborations also reflect the high regard in which he's held by contemporaries, including Stanton Moore, Anders Osborne and Nicholas Payton.
Having released a critically acclaimed co-led duo album Shimmy with Medeski Martin & Wood drummer Billy Martin in 2012, Blades returns with a deeply soulful and sinuous nine-track effort, Field Notes, on which he's found fronting his own trio featuring Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker and New Orleans' drummer Simon Lott.
From the recording's outset, it's easy to picture Blades fingers free-flowing across the keys, feet gliding along the bass pedals in a continuous dance. Syncopation drives songs like "Miller's Time" and "Addis" as the trio locks in tight to a relentless groove. But there's also a refined harmonic vision and deep affection for melody on tracks like "(I Can't Stand) The Whole Lott of You" and "Dewey" where Blades' Clavinet adds a fresh sonic dimension to the proceedings. Shades of psychedelia are weaved within "Parks 'N' Wreck," while a tip of the hat to vintage soul jazz balladry informs "Forgetful" and classic pop swing is at the heart of "I Get The Blues When It Rains."
In its sum, Field Notes is a masterful statement from an artist who's poised to keep the timeless sound of the Hammond B3 organ as vital and compelling today as it's ever been in the history of modern jazz and rock.1. Miller's Time

Dust & Grooves: Adventures In Record Collecting (Book)

World's Most Fascinating And Accomplished Vinyl Collectors
Created By Noted Photographer Eilon Paz
The Second Revised Edition Of The Book Profiles Over 130 Vinyl Collectors,
Featuring A Foreword By The RZA And Interviews With
Questlove, Gilles Peterson, Four-Tet, The Gaslamp Killer, And More.
This Edition Has 20 More Pages Than The First Edition
"Dust & Grooves began as a labor of love but has become a worldwide phenomenon. Paz has gained access to the personal troves of well-known collectors from all over the globe, showcasing each collector as well as his or her collections."- ABC News
Eilon Paz's 416-page coffee-table book illuminates over 130 vinyl connoisseurs and their collections in the most intimate of environments - their record rooms. With a foreword by the RZA, compelling photographic essays are paired with in-depth interviews to illustrate what motivates record collectors to keep digging.
Readers get an up close and personal look at a variety of well-known vinyl champions as well as a glimpse into the collections of world-renowned and lesser-known DJs, producers, record dealers, and everyday enthusiasts. The book is divided into two main parts: the first features 250 full-page photos framed by captions and select quotes, while the second consists of 12 full length interviews that delve deeper into collectors' personal histories and vinyl troves.
It all started out several years ago as nothing more than a way for photographer Paz to engage in a personal project in his free time. Adrift in Brooklyn after emigrating from Israel, Paz - a record collector on the side - thought it might be fun to start taking photos of people whose record collections were both larger and weirder than his own. These portraits turned into the Dust & Grooves website, which quickly developed a global following that grew every time a new portrait was added to the mix. People all over the world seemed to dig not only the beauty of Eilon's photos, but the interviews with the collectors-a motley, if generally charming, crew of non-violent obsessives who turned out to be at least as intriguing as the records they collected.
Unearthing the very soul of the vinyl community, his book will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers, from die-hard record enthusiasts to fans of pop culture, sharp photography, and music history.
Eilon Paz has shot for Israel's top cultural publications and is a regular contributor for the US based food/travel magazine, Saveur, and his work appeared in worldwide publications such as Wax Poetics, Monocle, Conde Nast Traveler, Delta Airlines' Sky magazine, and the French music magazine Vibrations.$66.00Book - Sealed Buy Now
KAB Super Record Grip - Push On Record Clamp (On Sale)The newly redesigned KAB super record grip was designed to replace and improve upon the PIG clamp originally supplied with the Revolver brand turntables. This new design features a 2 piece precision molded frame, spring rubber insert and UHMW polyethylene non marring contact surface. This is especially useful on Rega brand turntables and others where there is very little spindle to grab on to.
The KAB Super Record Grip reduces resonance and acoustic vibration of the record itself, freeing the stylus to do its intended job of tracing the groove. The result is better focus and detail to the soundstage.
The Super record grip attaches quickly; by turning with slight pressure, it walks down the spindle and meets the record surface.
Note: For easier use, the center hole can be lubricated with a diluted solution of 5% Armor All® and alcohol, swabbed with Qtip®.
The built-in bubble level shows turntable level at a glance to within 1 degree of accuracy.
Spring reinforced rubber insert holds onto the turntable spindle firmly.
The built in bubble level allows a quick check of turntable level. A level turntable balances the forces of the needle in the groove.
When the needle is resting in the record groove, the entire record surface behaves as a microphone picking up vibrations from the air and the turntable below. Damping the record surface reduces the affect of these added vibrations to the needle's already difficult job of reading the groove.
The really great features to take note of with the KAB super record grip is the ease of use and cost effectiveness.
The super record grip represents great value. Yet it is quite good at what it does and even has the added benefit of showing level at a glance, each time you use it. Keeping with the KAB philosophy that more is better, but it needn't cost more!
One issue to be sensitive to is turntables with light floating spring suspensions. You will have to push down some while applying the super record grip. It does not rely on weight. (It only weighs 2 Oz) Be sure your turntable can Bottom Out safely. If this is a concern, consult your turntable maker first.
[In our opinion, if you can bottom out safely, the super grip is a better solution still over clamps that rely on weight, since they will change the operating height of your platter.]$38.00Record Clamp Buy Now

At LastLauren White is an extremely talented 20-year old from Texas who has been studying under the same vocal coach as Norah Jones. Lauren blends the sensuality and vulnerability of Norah Jones with the vocal range of Linda Ronstadt combined with a voice that exhibits both emotional depth as well as nuance and delicacy!
Lauren's first album features a wide array of songs, the album opens with a Billie Holiday styled tune My One & Only, then drops to the darker overtones of the Anthony Wilson arranged Love For Sale, and transitions into a swinging Mack The Knife. This album also includes memorable covers of popular songs like Blue Bayou (Roy Orbison), Superstar (Carpenters), and to the country influenced, Why They Call It Falling (Lee Ann Womack). Lauren White also displays an impressive talent for song writing with three original songs here including a retro-ish Do You Remember, a heartbreaking ballad All I Do Is Cry and an up-tempo Brand New Love.
Featuring Anthony Wilson on guitar, Bill Cunliffe on piano and Ricky Woodward on sax, the album was recorded at Sunset Sound by Joe Harley (producer) and Mike Ross (engineer). ELLE-GRO-1008xAnthony Wilson Trio
Our GangComposer-arranger-bandleader and guitarist Anthony Wilson, the 32-year old son of big band maestro Gerald Wilson, is one of the most brilliant musicians working in the US jazz scene today. A recipient of the IAJE's Gil Evans Fellowship Award, Wilson's rich, fluid and easy going style, with it's seductive references to Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell, is much in evidence on his latest work, Our Gang from the Groove Note label out of Los Angeles.
Playing with a much pared down structure of guitar trio with organ and drums (his previous recordings have been with much larger outfits) gave Wilson the freedom to focus more on his own inventive and incomparable skills as soloist, and his close rapport with drummer Mark Ferber and organist Joe Bagg, with whom he has been playing with regularly for the last 2-3 years, pays off richly in this session.
Wilson's previous work for the Mama label received a great deal of critical and commercial recognition. The self-titled debut album hit number 1 on the Gavin charts and received a Grammy nomination in the Large Jazz Ensemble category in 1997. His second album Goat Hill Junket also achieved great success both critically and on radio while his third album released in 1999 features talents such as Jeff Clayton, Greg Ellis and Jack Nimitz all performing a suite commissioned by the IAJE. Wilson also received a Downbeat International Critics Poll award for Composer Deserving Wider Recognition in 2000.
Wilson's newest effort is the culmination of all his most recent ideas, in both originals and standards, and this album includes some stunning performances of standards like Chitlins Con Carne (By Kenny Burrell), I Want You - She's So Heavy (from Abbey Road), and Prelude To A Kiss (Strayhorn). The album also contains further evidence of Anthony Wilson's skill and talent as a composer as demonstrated by original compositions like Our Gang and Britta's Blues. The sterling back-up by Ferber and Bagg also deserves special mention with organist Bagg in particular exchanging great solos on the Hammond B-3 with Wilson.
Recorded by the A-list team of producer Joe Harley (ECM, Enja) and Mike Ross (engineer) at Cello Studios in Hollywood, this remarkable session will serve not only to cement the much vaunted reputation established with the Mama albums but will in fact greatly extend Wilson's high profile position as one jazz's finest talents.1. Here's To BenAlready a tremendous figure in her native Singapore, Jacintha has been turning heads and ears in this country as well. With an outstanding singing style on par with the greats, Jacintha will enrapture you in a perpetual state of musical bliss! (We're not ones for overstatement either.)
Jacintha debuts in the U.S. with a tribute to the legendary tenor saxophone player: Ben Webster. The songs have been specially selected to reflect this premise, i.e. they are mostly great vocal standards and/or ballads that have been recorded by Webster many times and are thus associated with his particular style and name. Some of these songs like Stardust, How Long Has This Been Going On, Georgia and Our Love is Here to Stay, Over The Rainbow are Webster classics.
This limited edition 45rpm was recorded at the famous OceanWay Recording Studios in Los Angeles, this recording is all-analogue, direct to two-track. The recording was made on an ATR-100 tape machine with BASF-900 1/4 high resolution tape running at 30ips. Only vintage microphones were used including the Neumann M-49 tube microphone set-up for Jacinthas voice. The other microphones used (for the musicians) included Neumann M-50 and U-47. The recording and mastering cabling for this session was supplied by Audioquest (Lapis). Mastered by Bernie Grundman direct from the original analogue masters on his highly modified and customized tube driven Sculley cutting lathe.

Highlights From The Fun House Sessions (Pre-Order)Pressed On 180g, Multi-Color Vinyl And Pressed At Record Industry
Each 2-LP Set Is Individually Numbered And Strictly Limited
Comes In A Gatefold Tip-On Stoughton Sleeve With Brand New Artwork
1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions was recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders in Los Angeles and compiled from all thirteen reels of multi-track tape that held every note and snippet of studio dialogue. Twelve reels of tape were used during the original sessions, with the thirteenth reel having the takes that would be used on the studio album.
This sprawling set which was originally aimed at the collector market would be challenging and cost prohibitive to reissue as a multi-disc vinyl box set. What is presented here is an attempt to assemble some of the best highlights from the Fun House Sessions on an officially-released 2LP set in high quality packaging with a sequence that hopefully proves to be an easier, and more casual listen.
Included are some terrific alternate versions of Down on the Street,Loose, Dirt, Funhouse, 1970 and others, pulled from session reels 1,4, 6, 7, 9 and 11 and originally recorded on May 11, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 25 of 1970. Also notable is the inclusion of the 17+ minute version of L.A. Blues, titled as Freak, which encompasses the entire fourth side of this set and is the prime example of what makes the Fun House Sessions both loved and feared.LP 1

With roots in classic Soul, British Invasion and Rockabilly, Detroit native Marshall Crenshaw has forged a very original and melodic form of crafting songs over the past 35 plus years in the music business. In the early days, Marshall was compared to Buddy Holly often, due in part to his portrayal of the doomed rock icon in the 1987 film, La Bamba."Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, He soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself "-Quote from The Trouser Press.
In addition to his original songs, that have been covered over the years by notable artists such as Ronnie Spector, Robert Gordon, the Gin Blossoms, America, Freedy Johnston, Bette Midler, Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs to name a few, Marshall is an accomplished guitarist with a very jazz-oriented style of playing. Marshall launched his original trio in New York with his brother Robert on drums and Chris Donato on bass, recording "Something's Gonna Happen" for Alan Betrock's Shake Records in 1981.Soon afterwards, the trio was signed to Warner Bros. Records and his debut album, simply titled "Marshall Crenshaw," was released in 1982 and included his biggest hit, "Someday Someway." Robert Gordon took the song to #76 in 1981 and Crenshaw's own version made #36 in 82. It would be Marshall's only solo Billboard Top 40 Pop hit. On the Cash Box magazine chart the song went to #31 and reached #25 on Billboard's Rock Tracks. The song, 'Til I Hear It From You," sung by the Gin Blossoms and co-written by Marshall , reached #11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1996.
Despite his 4 subsequent WB studio albums not including hits, Marshall continued to record in the 1990s and 2000s. "Better Back Off" from the MCA album, "Life's Too Short," reached #17 on Billboard's Alternative Songs Chart. In the 2000s Marshall played guitar as a guest of the reunited MC5, growing up a fan of the band in Detroit. He penned the title track from the 2007 film, "Walk Hard" starring John C Reilly, with the song being nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in a movie. In 2011 he began hosting a radio show called The Bottomless Pit on WFUV in New York, featuring his vast collection of music.
Although Marshall has released many live albums throughout his career, this newly discovered unreleased performance found in Warner Music's vault was recorded while he was touring in support of his debut release in 1982 and includes several songs seeing their first release on any format. Co-produced by Marshall, who supplied rare photographs and liner notes and mixed by Chris Stamey, this lovingly packaged live document provides a unique snapshot back to Marshall's formative years as an artist and would fill a hole in his recorded live legacy.1. I Got The T-Bone Walker BluesMastered from the Original Master Tapes by Bernie Grundman
Pressed at RTI!
Roy Gaines is the greatest living blues guitarist that you probably don't know anything about. Not only is Mr. Gaines a sizzling blues guitarist, he also possesses one of the most magnificent blues voices around. The real tragedy is that until very recently this supremely talented musician was almost forgotten by blues fans in the U.S.
Born in Houston in 1937, Roy started playing the guitar as a teenager and soon developed a reputation as an instrumental prodigy. By fourteen, he was actually being invited on stage to play with the legendary T-Bone Walker during the latter's live gigs in Houston and became known as T-Bone Jr. By his early 20s, Roy was playing and recording with Roy Milton's band in LA but returned to Houston to join the Duke / Peacock blues label as a full time session guitarist on such seminal blues recordings as Bobby Bland's It's My Life Baby and Junior Parker's Driving Me Mad. He was also the featured guitarist on a whole bunch of singles recorded by Big Mama Thorton for the same label.
After going on the road with Joe Turner, Roy joined forces with the blues great, Chuck Willis. Roy stayed with Willis until the latter passed away in the late 50's. He then moved to NYC and recorded with Jimmy Rushing, as well as doing a jazz album with Coleman Hawkins on Prestige. Roy returned to LA and during the 60s became one of the city's leading session guitarists, playing with the Crusaders, Earl Grant, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder as well as continuing his pure blues work with the likes of Bobby Bland, Albert King and Lightning Hopkins for the Jewel label.
The focus of this album is on the music and spirit of the late and very great T-Bone Walker, Roy's earliest mentor and inspiration as a guitar player. T-Bone's body of work includes such timeless blues standards as Stormy Monday, Dreamgirl, West Side Baby, T-Bone Blues and I'm in An Awful Mood and many others. This album focuses on the classic tunes and styles from the period of the 40s and 50s.
The LP includes an acoustic version of Stormy Monday and House of Gold as a bonus 45rpm supercut. Produced by Joe Harley and recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Sherman Oaks, CA. by engineer Mike Ross. All mastering was done from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman. All LPs are plated and pressed by RTI, CA.1. Stormy Monday

One of the most unique, original and unusual rock bands to burst onto the alternative scene in the 90s, Morphine was originally formed by vocalist/ bassist Mark Sandman, saxophonist Dana Colley and drummer Jerome Deupree (later replaced by Billy Conway) in Cambridge, Mass in 1989. They expertly combined blues, jazz and rock elements into a very distinct style, anchored by Sandman's deep, crooning, beat-style vocals. Rather than having an electric guitar as the focal point like most rock bands, the trio's sound was built around Sandman's two-string electric bass (often deployed with a slide) and Colley's growling, baritone sax which they dubbed as low-rock.
The band enjoyed critical acclaim but saw mixed results commercially. In the States, they were embraced on public and college radio and MTV's 120 Minutes but received little to no support from commercial rock radio or other music TV programming. They did enjoy much higher profile success overseas, especially in Belgium, Portugal France and Australia where they were featured on music television programming frequently and filled much larger venues.
After five studio albums and extensive touring, Morphine disbanded after Mark tragically died of a heart attack performing on stage at the Giardini del Principe in Palestrina, Italy. Surviving members have soldiered on in various incarnations, the most recent being the Vapors of Morphine that will be on tour through the summer of 2017.
Morphine was an incredibly dynamic and highly improvisational band in concert, yet released only one live album in their career. Live At The Warfield 1997 will right the ship by shedding light on a fantastic live rock n' roll document that has gone unheard for 20 years â€" and Mark Sandman was a stickler for fidelity of their documented live performances so this music was expertly recorded showcasing amazing room ambience.

Liner Notes By Guitarist Will Sergeant
One of the most acclaimed British rockers from the 1980's, this legendary band formed in Liverpool in 1978 and were forefathers of the neopsychedelic movement. Their line-up consisted of vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant, bass player Les Pattinson and drummer Pete de Freitas, eventually replacing the original drum machine.
The band's cult status eventually waned with mainstream success in 1983 after they scored a UK top 10 hit with "The Cutter" and attendant album Porcupine which hit #2 in the UK. 1984's album Ocean Rain is considered a landmark post-punk release, featuring the lead single "Killing Moon."
The band split in 1988 but regrouped in 1997, releasing an album in 2014 that was their first UK Top 40 entry since 1999. The band's popularity never quite made the same impact in the US as it did in Europe so they are ripe for rediscovery for anyone interested in bands such as Suede, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Blur, Interpol and Oasis.
This brand new collection of their legendary live material recorded in Sweden in 1985 includes classic Rock-N-Roll covers of legendary tunes by the Doors, Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, Television and more available on vinyl for the first time. Many of the tracks from Sweden were recorded live for Swedish National Radio at the Karen Club. Let 'Em RollDuring the Blue Note 75th anniversary celebration the label released 100 essential Blue Note LPs and asked New York Times readers what titles they'd like to see make the list. This album is one of five new reissues that were hand-selected by Blue Note President, Don Was, based on New York Times reader recommendations.
In an unusual setting for a groove/soul jazz setting, B3 organist extraordinaire big John Patton creates a band around himself that includes Grant Green, drummer Otis Finch, and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson. It's truly weird to think of vibes on a groove date, but the way Patton's understated playing works, and the way Green is literally all things to all players, Hutcherson's role is not only a clearly defined one, but adds immeasurably to both depth and texture on this date.
What also makes this possible is the symbiotic relationship between Patton and Green. There is a double groove conscious swing happening on every track here, from the bluesed-out slip and slide of the title track which opens the record to a killer version of Hank Mobley's The Turnaround, which expands the blues vibe into solid soul territory because of Hutcherson's ability to play pianistically and slip into the funk groove whenever necessary. Green's deadly in his solo on the track, shimmering arpeggios through Patton's big fat chords and chunky hammering runs.
Also notable are Patton's own tunes, the most beautiful of which is Latona, a floating Latin number with a killer salsa rhythm in 6/8. As Patton vamps through the chorus, Green slips in one of his gnarliest solos ever. It begins with a groove like run in the hard bop blues and then shoves itself into overdrive, capturing the cold sweat of a Bola Sete or Wes Montgomery in his groove years. But when Green goes for the harmonic edges, all bets are off: Hutcherson lays out, and he and Patton go running to the bridge and bring the melody back just in time to take it out.
This is one of the least appreciated of Patton's records, and there's no reason for it; it is great.
