    Silver Bell

Silver Bell, recorded in 2000 and intended to be the follow-up to Patty Griffin's hard-rocking 1998 sophomore release, Flaming Red was shelved by A&M
Records, a victim of the label's turn-of-the-century ownership change. Now, newly mixed by legendary producer Glyn Johns, Silver Bell will get its release with the original songs that were recorded at Daniel Lanois' Kingsway Studio in New Orleans. Despite its 13 years of limbo, the sought-after album spawned two huge hits for the Dixie Chicks, who covered both "Top Of The World" and "Truth #2" for their six-million-selling 2002 Home album. In
addition, the band's Natalie Maines recorded the album's title track for her recent solo debut, Mother.

Big awareness among fans of this early career, never-before-released album. Emmylou Harris sings harmony on "Truth #2". Patty's 2010 album
Downtown Church won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album. Patty's songs have been covered by all types of artists; from Kelly Clarkson
and Jessica Simpson to Bon Iver and Ben Harper, expanding her audience beyond the core indie/ Americana fan.

    Introducing Johnny Griffin

Johnny Griffin had been kicking around in R&B bands for years before his Blue Note debut in 1956. And what was introduced was a tenor saxophonist with a fresh sound, a warm, soulful style and the fastest technique in jazz. He moves from lyrical ballads to blistering tempos with ease. Within two years, Griff would become one of the leading tenor saxophonists in jazz as a member of Thelonious Monk's quartet.

The great tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin is heard in top form on this near-classic quartet set. Assisted by pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Kenny Dennis, Griffin is exuberant on The Congregation (which is reminiscent of Horace Silver's The Preacher), thoughtful on the ballads, and swinging throughout. It's recommended for bop collectors.

    The Man I Love

Johnny Griffin had a reputation as the world's fastest tenor. At this intense live date captured at Club Montmarte in Copenhagen in 1967, the saxophonist lives up to such a billing and more, attacking five compositions with dynamite energy and blinding speed. In addition, Griffin displays the warm and sensitive side he developed later in his career on a touching rendition of Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Lady. Throughout, he's aided by a resolutely controlled and superbly dynamic rhythm section comprised of bassist Niels Pederson and drummer Albert Tootie Heath, who, with pianist Kenny Drew, match Griffin's red-hot bravado. This is a hard-bop set no one will want to miss.

Originally released by the UK label Black Lion, an imprint that specialized in resurrecting rare gems from US jazz and blues legends, The Man I Love is on par with Griffin's finest studio outings for Blue Note and a can't-miss opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to get closer to the man and his music. Orchestrated by ORG Music, this historical reissue is afforded the ultimate in audiophile production standards, resulting in sonics and presentation befitting the museum-like worth of this record's existence.

Mastered from the original master tapes at Bernie Grundman Studios by Chris Bellman and pressed at Pallas, the 180 gram LP was curated by legendary engineer Steve Hoffman and eq'd by Grundman himself. A better team you cannot find; every step involved serious quality-control measures to guarantee gorgeous sound. The superb vinyl jacket features exclusive artwork. This is what being a collector is all about.

The title isn't as widely known as some of Griffin's other work, but this reissue preserves historically significant music that will be enjoyed by generations to come.

Johnny Griffin is one of the fastest, sharpest tenor saxophonists to emerge in the fertile 1950s. His third and final Blue Note recording is one of a handful that sported a cover illustration by the then struggling artist Andy Warhol. The quartet date with Sonny Clark and Paul Chambers is a relaxed, mature affair that ranges from the gospel-flavored title tune to a beautiful I'm Glad There Is You and an up-tempo It's You or No One. Added to the original album is I Remember You, a bonus track from the session. Better than ever on this Limited Edition 180g Japanese Import LP!

During the two-year existence of their Tough Tenors quintet, Eddie Lockjaw Davis (a Prestige artist) and Johnny Griffin (under contract to Riverside/Jazzland) satisfied their contractual obligations by recording five albums for each company. This was the pair's first for Prestige, and the first of a four-album series taped over the course of an extremely productive evening at the legendary Minton's Playhouse in Harlem. The album, also known as The Breakfast Show in an earlier reissue, gives the rhythm section several opportunities to shine, with Ben Riley's drums dominant on Woody'n You, Bingo Domingo featuring Larry Gale's bass, and Junior Mance's piano solo almost stealing the show on Light and Lovely. It is the leaders, though, who consistently deliver with their complimentary brand of intensity, which is heard at the boil throughout and reaches a particular peak when they exchange ideas on Straight, No Chaser.

    1000 Kisses

1000 Kisses is the third studio album by Patty Griffin. It was originally released in 2002, and is now available on vinyl for the first time.

After a drought of four years, which saw Patty's expected 2000 release, Silver Bell, remain shelved with the absorption of her former label, this would be the first of her albums to be released by new label, ATO. The album was recorded and co-produced with long-time guitarist and band leader, Doug Lancio, in the basement studio of his Nashville home, with the occasional cough or footfall audible in the background. The stripped down music has a close and intimate feel, focusing mainly on the emotions within her voice and establishing her as one of the finest songwriters recording today. The album would receive a Grammy nomination.

1958's Misterioso was culled from the same 1958 Five Spot Cafe performances that produced Thelonious In Action and features the same quartet of Monk (piano), Johnny Griffin (tenor sax), Roy Haynes (drums) and Ahmed Abdul-Malik (bass). The swinging 6-song set consists of of all Monk arranged originals, with the exception being Just a Gigalo, which he performs unaccompanied here. Griffin proves to be the perfect foil for Monk's unorthodox genius throughout, particularly on the 10-minute plus title track treasure and the multi-layered Let's Cool One.

Bronx duo Pigeons wade closer to the edge of ambitious pop provocations with their third LP, Liasons. Here we find the band in the midst of an enormous creative leap; the psychedelic chanson moves of previous releases now cohabit with spacious westcoast art-blues and wistful cosmic folk tunes, invoking Catherine Ribeiro, Brigitte Fontaine and Opal. Pigeons singular approach to structure, arrangements and production techniques, mirrored by the willful license in spelling Liasons, culminate with Wednesday Knudsen and Clark Griffin lacing their songs with flute, saxophone, echo, drum machines and languid guitar lines. Guitar man David Rawlings leaves the Machine moniker behind for his third album, Poor David's Almanack, a wry mixture of acoustic and electric performances rich in ageless American vernacular. Gloriously captured on analog tape by studio wizards Ken Scott and Matt Andrews, the ten new songs took shape in a rollicking weeklong session at Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee where Rawlings and longtime compatriot Gillian Welch joined together with Willie Watson, Paul Kowert, Brittany Haas, Ketch Secor, and Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith to produce an album for all seasons.

As you begin to listen to Dawes' debut album and especially songs like the bittersweet That Western Skyline and the patient Love Is All I Am, you start to realize that this band isn't interested in the bells and whistles. The Los Angeles quartet, Taylor Goldsmith (vocals, guitar), Griffin Goldsmith (drums, vocals), Wylie Gelber (bass) and Tay Strathairn (piano, vocals) seem to get all their musicianship and expression across through the inherent nature of the instruments. They seem to have their utmost respect for the song itself, only stepping out when a song calls for it, relying on the other to keep the holes filled and the ship sailing smoothly, letting the music reflect their own personal relationships to the listener.

Recorded live to tape (all analog) at Canyonsound Studio in Laurel Canyon, CA. Produced by Jonathan Wilson (Elvis Costello, Johnathan Rice, Jenny Lewis) and mastered by Rob Fraboni (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton) at Effortless Mastering in Weston, CT.

Emmylou Harris's first Nonesuch recording, Red Dirt Girl, was originally released in September 2000, and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album of the year. It was her first solo studio recording since 1995's Wrecking Ball. The album was produced by Malcolm Burn, who previously worked with Harris engineering and mixing Wrecking Ball, and features Buddy Miller on lead guitar; Daryl Johnson on bass and drums; Malcolm Burn on piano, guitar, and bass; and Ethan Johns on drums, guitar, and other miscellaneous instruments. Harris wrote all but one of Red Dirt Girl's 12 tracks, marking only the second time in her career that she has been so involved in the composition of an album. Summer Skin

Summer Skin, the new album from Amy Cook is set for release on Roothouse Records/Thirty Tigers. The 12-songs on Summer Skin feature an all-star band, special cameos and Cook's strongest songwriting and recording to date. Cook successfully achieves the perfect balance between intelligent, thoughtful singer/songwriter and strong rock chick. Rolling Stone desribes Cook as "a brassier, dusty Deborah Harry."

Summer Skin represents a new plateau for Cook as an artist. "This is the happiest I've ever been with anything I've ever recorded," says Cook, "I was working with people who really were able to get into my mind and help me let go of my expectations, instead of worrying 'is this gonna rock hard enough or be rootsy enough or be smart enough.'"

Those people begin with producer Craig Street, whose long list of credits includes Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Henry and K.D. Lang. Then comes an all-star band, featuring David Garza (guitar), Me'Shell N'Degeocello (bass), Chris Bruce (guitar) and Jonathan Wilson (drums).

Cook had a few other friends make some special contributions to Summer Skin. Robert Plant sings harmony with Cook on the beautiful "It's Gonna Rain," and joins Patty Griffin on the moody "Airplane Driver." Ben Kweller co-wrote and sings back up on the catchy rocker "Getting To You."

Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song

For his fifth album, Amos Lee took a different path for the recording, working in a new city with a new producer. Recording with Amos' road tested touring
band, the album was the first project to be recorded in a brand-new studio, built in a converted church in Nashville by producer JAY JOYCE (Emmylou
Harris, Little Big Town, Eric Church). The follow-up to 2011's chart-topping Mission Bell brings the artist into new sonic territory, while retaining the
trenchant impact of the scenes, characters, and stories in his writing. Joyce introduced a broader palette to Amos' work, creating a richness and a variety
that's never distracting or self-conscious. Being in Nashville also allowed several remarkable guests to come by the sessions including ALISON KRAUSS
and PATTY GRIFFIN lend heavenly vocals.

Amos' last album was a surprise entry at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and in an amazingly consistent career he's now sold a million albums over his first
four albums. With each album, Amos has deepened his connection to the Nashville community earning fans and performing with an A to Z of the country
world, from Lady Antebellum from Zac Brown. Making the album with a proven country hitmaker and doing a much-buzzed about showcase in Nashville in
June has furthered that cause. Major daytime and latenight TV looks, NPR looks, AAA domination, a series of high-profile synch placements and an
amazing sold out tour this fall and early next year will insure that there are drivers for this album well into 2014.

    Blow-Up Soundtrack

Blow-Up is a soundtrack album by Herbie Hancock featuring music composed for Michelangelo Antonioni's cult film Blow-Up, released in 1966. Musically the songs evoke the ambience of swinging Sixties' London with grooves that create effective bluesy Jazz moods on the slow pieces, and funky ones on the up-tempo tracks.

The album features performances by Hancock on keys, Freddie Hubbard and Joe Newman on trumpet, Phil Woods and Joe Henderson on sax, Ron Carter on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. Rumours go that either the fabled Jimmy Smith or Paul Griffin played the Hammond organ on this record.

Rock fans remember the film and the soundtrack for the inclusion of a rare Yardbirds number, Stroll On (actually, an adaptation of Tiny Bradshaw's The Train Kept A-Rollin'), one of only three songs they recorded with both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitars. The bassline to Bring Down The Birds was sampled by Deee-Lite for their 1990 hit single Groove Is In The Heart featuring Bootsy Collins.

How well do we really know the people closest to us, and are past bygones ever really bygones?

From the producer of Whiplash and The Purge, Jason Blum, comes a chilling psychological thriller that marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed actor and writer Joel Edgerton (''The Great Gatsby'', ''Zero Dark Thirty'', ''Warrior''). The story: Simon and Robyn are a young married couple whose life is going just as planned until a chance encounter with an acquaintance from Simon's high school sends their world into a harrowing tailspin.

The film's hair raising score is composed by Stenfert Charles (Saunder Stenfert Jurriaans and Daniel Charles Bensi), two multi-instrumentalists and classically trained musicians. Both have been lauded at diverse film festivals like Cannes & Sundance for their scores of productions like Alistair Banks Griffin's Two Gates of Sleep, Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, Ruben Ostlund's Play and more.

    Broken Lines

With 5 Grammy nominations and 2 wins; Golden Gods, Kerrang! And VH1 awards; headlining slots in many major festivals and countless Top 10 albums and singles, the members of Giraffe Tongue Orchestra are ready to re-write the rules of the successful rock 'super-group.' Comprised of William DuVall of Alice In Chains, Ben Weinman of Dillinger Escape Plan, Brent Hinds of Mastodon, Pete Griffin of Dethklok and Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra has created an album akin to classic cinema. Their innovative debut record, BROKEN LINES, is being released through Party Smasher Inc / Cooking Vinyl. The name itself represents strength and ingenuity per guitarist, Brent Hinds, "During the time Mastodon was there for Soundwave, I was at the zoo in Sydney, Australia and was checking out the giraffes. They are amazing animals - one just grabbed a bunch of bananas from my hand with its tongue and peeled them with it as well - by the time the bananas got to its mouth, they were ready to be eaten. I saw Ben who was at Soundwave too and said 'Man I think I found the name for our band,' and told him the story." Ben adds "That giraffe made it happen like us, he figured it out."

    The Flying Club Cup

Since its release in May of 2006, Beirut's internationally celebrated Gulag Orkestar album has soundscanned more than 45,000 copies, and the band has done a tsunami of interviews, photoshoots and features (including NY Times, Spin, Pitchfork, Urb, and Village Voice). This great fervor developed around an album conceived and constructed in a teenager's New Mexico bedroom.

Six months of recording has led to The Flying Club Cup, an homage to France's culture, fashion, history, and music. Two years ago, Zach Condon immersed himself in Balkan folk, absorbed sounds, scales, styles, and the sonic joys of a skeletally structured, cacophonic ensembleoand moved west. Soaking up the likes of Francois Hardy, Charles Aznavour, and, most notably, Jacques Brel (a huge influence on both Scott Walker and Mark E. Smith), Condon has been articulating his conversational French.

Most of the album was created at a nondescript Albuquerque office space, a.k.a. A Hawk and a Hacksaw's practice room; Heather Trost plays violin and viola on three songs. Engineering and production assistance came from Griffin Rodriguez (A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Man Man). He helped separate the many instrumentalists involved in recording, as opposed to Gulag's largely solo flight. The orkestar, which has solidified into a core group of eight members, has grand plans for replicating the album live, and is now an integral part of Beirut's identity. Additional recording was done with Owen Pallet (Final Fantasy) at the Masonic church studio owned by The Arcade Fire.

Within the spectacle and intimacy of The Flying Club Cup, you can hear a love letter to the joie de vivre that defines our existence. Listen closer, and you also hear the emergence of a singular musical talent of Mr. Zachary F. Condon, at present living in Paris-- unbounded by cultural borders and by where his heart travels.

A September-October '07 tour of nice theaters in large U.S. cities is in the planning stages, as are more dates in 2008.

    All Harm Ends Here

The Early Day Miners Good Time Band is back with another platter of Midwest post-goth. Having already introduced their new rhythm section (Matt Griffin on drums and Jonathan Richardson on bass) to the world over the course of their last two tours, with All Harm Ends Here Early Day Miners have combined the lushness of their second album Let Us Garlands Bring with the conciseness of their last full-length Jefferson At Rest. Moreso than on any of their previous efforts, EDM take both musical and tonal cues from the principal architects of the 80's sad-as-hell dark underground - Echo & the Bunnymen, the Church, early-the Cure, and most notably the Bauhaus/Tones On Tail/Love And Rockets axis. While contemporaries like Bedhead and Interpol have mined primarily the darkest aspects of these long shadows, there lies in Early Day Miners' method an innate sense of hope that transcends even their darkest themes (decay, suicide, desertion). Perhaps this is most evident in the guitar interplay of long-time collaborators Dan Burton (Ativin) and Joseph Brumley. Arpeggios abound, the works of Roger McGuinn and The Edge come to mind in that there is a sense of hopefulness and sublimation which drives the songs to a better place. While the album is filled with death and ghosts of all sorts, its unifying theme is the individual's ability to escape the death and ghosts. Even the making of the album (which was done just outside of the band's hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, on the outskirts of Hoosier National Forest) was plagued by ghosts and phantoms. Recorded at the Old Mt. Gilead Church - recently revamped into a recording studio and still immediately surrounded on three sides by a dozen acres of 150-year old cemetery - principal tracking for All Harm Ends Here was halted for days at a time on multiple occasions when inexplicable flutter infected the reels of tape, almost requiring EDM to relocate its principal tracking altogether. Mixing and overdubbing was done at Burton's own Grotto Home Studio in an effort to evade those ghosts in the machine which possessed Old Mt. Gilead. While the Early Day Miners don't make flashy music, their layered music rewards the repeat listener. If you listen closely enough, in fact, you can hear ghosts in the distance.

    Little Niles (Pure Pleasure)

Randy Weston, one of the world's foremost pianists and composers, a true innovator and visionary. Starting with the gospel of bop according to Thelonious Monk, Weston gradually absorbed the letter and spirit of African and Caribbean rhythms and tunes, welding everything together into a searching, energizing, often celebratory blend. His piano work ranges across a profusion of styles from boogie-woogie through bop into dissonance, marked by a stabbing quality reminiscent of, but not totally indebted to Monk.

Combining the Ellingtonish arrangements of Melba Liston with the rhythmically intriguing explorations of Randy Weston this album represented a high point in his career at the time. All the tunes, written by Randy Weston, were inspired by his children Niles and Pamela. The innocence, excitement, anticipation and tension of childhood are all displayed here in these warm vinyl grooves.

    Musicians:

    • Randy Weston (piano)

    • Johnny Griffin (tenor saxophone)

    • Ray Copeland, Idrees Sulieman (trumpet)

    • Melba Liston (arranger, trombone)

    • George Joyner (bass)

    • Charlie Persip ( drums)

Recording: October 1958 at RCA Studios, NYC

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Body Talk (Speakers Corner)

Just listen to the first thirty seconds of this LP and you know that it's all about the 'Godfather of Soul' - the unique James Brown.

But it's just as obvious that such a great artist as George Benson doesn't just present "Greatest Hits" in a new guise. Six of his own compositions plus one by Donny Hathaway/Gene McDaniels provide the guitarist and singer with a great platform to launch from. He shoots off into orbit, accompanied by first-class guest soloists such as Jon Faddis, Frank Foster, Earl Klugh and Jack DeJohnnette. Ron Carter's bass doesn't boom in the low register but offers a light and airy, yet solid, base.

Body Talk is by no means the declaration of a world-shaking, new and avant-garde jazz. It is, however, a successful blend of jazz, soul and fusion. And when such a superb arranger as Pee Wee Ellis has his finger in the pie - or rather: his pen on the manuscript paper - then one can be sure that the almost 50-minute-long LP is a great success from beginning to end. Finally, one shouldn't forget the helping hand of the producer Creed Taylor, who made a significant contribution to this milestone on the CTI label.

    Musicians:

    • George Benson (guitar, vocal)

    • Frank Foster (tenor saxophone)

    • Gerald Chamberlain, Dick Griffin (trombone)

    • Jon Faddis, John Gatchell, Waymon Reed (fluegel horn, trumpet)

    • Harold Mabern (electric piano)

    • Earl Klugh (guitar)

    • Ron Carter, Gary King (bass)

    • Mobutu (percussion)
