    Exquisitely Restored Cover Art

Comes In Old Style ''Tip-On'' Single-Jacket Printed By Stoughton on Heavy Stock

Is this the album that made country cool? Former Byrds Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman picked up where they left off with Sweetheart of the Rodeo with this stunning masterpiece of a debut album by The Flying Burrito Bros. While Parsons had already pushed rock in a country direction during his brief stint with The Byrds and The International Submarine Band, The Gilded Palace of Sin is why the Burritos are widely viewed as the inventors of country rock. Indeed with this album, Hillman and Parsons carved a substantial place in music history as one of the most influential albums and bands of all time.

The influence this album and band would have on rock and rap in the following decade can't be understated. It's impossible to listen to 80s and 90s classics like The Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique or Beck's Odelay without hearing echoes of the beats and samples from This Is Big Audio Dynamite all the way back in 1985.

The Gilded Palace of Sin was mastered 100% AAA analog by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the best source available- a phenomenal sounding 1/2'' safety copy of the original stereo master tapes. All of the top-end energy and ''snap'' of the original A&M LP is preserved, while the bass foundation is fully restored to make this new Intervention reissue the definitive listening experience for this classic LP!

    Early Years

Sierra Records presents their most ambitious project ever, literally in the works for decades, with the Gram Parsons The Early Years Box Set. This exclusive, collectors edition is packaged in a 12 x 12 high gloss full color, rigid deluxe, presentation box, containing 4 distinct discs: CD1: Gram Parsons The Early Years Vol. 1 & 2; CD2: Big Mouth Blues - A Conversation with Gram Parsons; DVD: rare and only performance of Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels; and Gram Parsons The Early Years Volume 1 picture disc vinyl. The set also includes a new 24 page color booklet/pictorial and posters!

CD1 is the first ever release on compact disc of the now classic and ground breaking, Gram Parsons The Early Years Volume 1 (1963-65) folk recordings of Gram Parsons and the Shilos with all original tracks from the 1979 LP. Added to these original ten tracks, will be the never released in any format, Volume 2 of lost early recordings focusing on Gram's solo efforts recorded by Dick Weissman including several never before heard Parsons' compositions! Continuing on this expanded compact disc are recordings by Gram Parsons & The Like, his experimental band from his brief stay in late 1965 at Harvard University. This includes a rare performance with the late actor, turned singer, Brandon deWilde. Closing out this disc is the holy grail of lost Gram Parsons recordings; Brandon deWilde singing lead, with Gram on Do Right Woman and Hickory Wind.

CD2 features Big Mouth Blues: A Conversation with Gram Parsons, a full color digipak packaged release of a 76 minute interview with Gram Parsons conducted in 1972. He speaks about his musical influences, his formation of the eclectic, International Submarine Band, his part in creating and encouraging the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo album, his hopes for and disappointments with, the iconoclast Flying Burrito Brothers, his plans for a solo career and his enduring musical vision. Hearing his story in his own words and voice will give you a better glimpse of Gram Parsons, the man.

The accompanying DVD features the official release of the original video tape of the rare and only performance of Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels. Though the video quality was not very good to begin with, the aging video tape has been enhanced utilizing today's newest digital video technology. Additional never seen before, non-performance footage from the show has been added which includes longer introductions by Gram on stage. As an added bonus, a very rare video performance closes the DVD with Gram performing a lip sync version of Hot Burrito #1.

The long lost, recently discovered 1979 picture disc vinyl LP features Gram Parsons The Early Years, Volume 1 with a color picture of Gram on Side 1 and on Side 2 the original full color Sierra-Briar Records orange crate' logo. Originally conceived in April of 1979, only one test pressing of the disc existed until now! The disc is playable on any phonograph turntable, recorded and pressed in magnificent Mono. But there is more! This collector's vinyl disc is even more unique as the disc was pressed on 180g pure virgin vinyl, highly sought after today by audiophiles everywhere! It is packaged in it's own clear plastic sleeve.

Booklet: A new 24 page booklet/pictorial with additional accompanying notes and featuring photographs by noted Life Magazine photographer Ted Polumbaum. Entitled Gram Parsons at Harvard - Fall 1965 with commentary by Harvard grad (Class of 1968) and fellow Gram classmate, David Johnson, these never before seen, let alone published, photographs capture Gram's brief stay as an incoming freshman at Harvard University in the Fall of 1965. See Gram at his desk studying, going to class, hanging out with teachers and students, playing his guitar, composing new songs plus photos of Gram Parsons and the Like (John Nuese, Ian Dunlap, Mickey Gauvin, Tom Scott). Commissioned by Life/Look Magazine for a proposed pictorial on the incoming college freshmen of 1965, these photos are incredible and Gram never looked better. These were photographs were shot just days before he would leave Harvard to head for New York moving in with new found music contemporary, Brandon deWilde, famed actor and now budding country singer!

Posters: Folded posters of Gram Parsons at the Chateau Marmont 1969 (24 x 36 poster) and two versions of the Pete Frame's Gram Parsons Rock Family Tree The Grievous Angel and Gram & Emmylou (both posters are 18x 24).

    Burrito Deluxe

Gram Parsons had a habit of taking over whatever band he happened to be working with, and on the first three albums on which he appeared - the International Submarine Band's Safe at Home, the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo, and the Flying Burrito Brothers' The Gilded Palace of Sin - he became the focal point, regardless of the talent of his compatriots. Burrito Deluxe (1970), the Burritos' second album, is unique in Parsons' repertoire in that it's the only album where he seems to have deliberately stepped back to make more room for others.

The album includes songs like Cody, Cody, and Older Guys. It also contains the first issued version of the song Wild Horses, released almost a year before its appearance on Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones. The band sounds tight and they play with genuine enthusiasm. Burrito Deluxe is certainly better than your average Country-Rock album.

    Sweetheart Of The Rodeo

Pressed On Limited Edition 180 Gram Translucent Gold Vinyl

    Gatefold Cover

Sweetheart of the Rodeo is the sixth album by American rock band The Byrds and was originally released on August 30, 1968 on Columbia Records. Recorded with the addition of country rock pioneer Gram Parsons, it was influential as the first major country rock album by an established act and represented a stylistic move away from the psychedelic rock of the band's previous LP, The Notorious Byrd Brothers. The Byrds had occasionally experimented with country music on their four previous albums, but Sweetheart of the Rodeo represented their fullest immersion into the genre thus far. The album was also responsible for bringing Gram Parsons, who had joined The Byrds prior to the recording of the album, to the attention of a mainstream rock audience for the first time. Thus, the album can be seen as an important chapter in Parsons' personal and musical crusade to make country music fashionable for a young audience.

    Grievous Angel

Gram Parsons pioneered the concept of a rock band playing country music, playing in bands such as The Byrds, The International Submarine Band and The Flying Burrito Brothers. His work has influenced both country and rock artists such as The Rolling Stones and Linda Ronstadt by blending the two genres to the point that they became indistinguishable from each other.

Compiled from 1973 studio sessions 'Grievous Angel' was originally released in 1974, four months after the songwriters death. It was the second solo album from Gram Parsons and is viewed as a successful example of the hybrid between country androck and rollParsons called Cosmic American Music. In 2003 it was ranked in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 greatest albums of all time.

    Seductive Reasoning (Speakers Corner)

Thanks to their undeniable musical talent, which allowed them to be taken seriously in the folk scene, the industrious Roche sisters' career began when they were young. The duo began by singing Christmas carols, doo-wop song syllable puzzles, and tricky barbershop harmonies. They finally caught the attention of Paul Simon, who brought the gifted girls in as backup singers on his LP There Goes Rhymin' Simon, and was primarily responsible for the birth of their first recording. The lavishly produced album achieved high critical acclaim. Although it was a worthy professional debut, the public was hesitant to buy the album. The specialist magazine Rolling Stone commented drily and somewhat at a loss that the Roches weren't everyone's cup of tea.

Maggie and Terre Roche are a well-rehearsed vocal team however: with a range from hazy, finely balanced voices singing as one, right up to pearly, radiant brilliance, the Roche sisters enthusiastically penned a songbook which is almost without exception their very own creation. Mechanical bluegrass music (Wigglin' Man), a steam-train character (If You Emptied ...) and a somewhat crude and unrefined country aura make the subtle lyrics easily accessible to all, but the LP also offers the listener wonderfully ill-humoured verse (The Mountain People) and story-like prose (West Virginia). This is a truly exceptional album, and well worth being discovered!

    Musicians:

    • Maggie Roche (piano, guitar)

    • Terre Roche (guitar)

    • Paul Simon (guitar)

    • Pete Carr (guitar)

    • Jimmy Johnson (guitar)

    • Barry Beckett (keyboard)

    • David Hood (bass)

    • Roger Hawkins(drums)

Recording: 1973 in the Morgan Studios, London, and 1974 in the Muscle Shoals Studios, Sheffield, Alabama

Production: Paul Simon, Paul Samwell-Smith, David Hood and Jimmy Johnson

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Was this Gram Parsons-led combo the first country-rock band ever? With groundbreaking backwoods material this superb, who cares? Electrified honky-tonk laments like Blue Eyes and spooky little mini-epics like Miller's Cave give Parsons' soulful, pre-Burrito Bros. set of pipes plenty of George Jones-like elbow room here. Dim the lights, inhale the thick smoke and wallow in the loud, loud music. Other Side Of This Life is the final album from American folk music legend Fred Neil, released in 1971 before his long self-imposed retirement from music to focus on dolphin conservation in his home state of Florida. Featuring a side of live recordings of some of his most lasting and well known compositions (including The Dolphins, and Everybody's Talkin') as well as a side of studio sessions featuring Les McCann and Gram Parsons, Other Side of This Life may not be Neil's most memorable album but it's still head and shoulders above most other singer-songwriter material of the era. Desperado

Certified Multi-Platinum (2 times) by the RIAA. (3/01)

If ever a group of musicians had a clear vision of where they wanted to go and how to get there, it was these southern California boys who built a steady rolling FM hit factory on basic tenets of Gram Parsons's invention of country-rock. For their second album, the group decided concept was most important and set out to portray themselves as keepers of the old West--their outlaw image a natural for those born unto rock and roll soil. The hits are lazy, decadent, and unrepentant; Tequila Sunrise and the title track, feature the flawless harmonies and strong vocals of Glenn Frey and Don Henley. --Rob O'Connor

    Sanctuary IV

First time on vinyl for all tracks! Annotation by Byrds' Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman and Kevin Kelley!

The Sanctuary spotlight shifts with volume IV to the Nashville sessions for the Byrds' landmark 1968 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Spurred on by new member Gram Parsons, formerly of the International Submarine Band, the Byrds traveled to Nashville to fashion the innovative country/rock blend that's been part of American culture ever since. Sanctuary IV collects all of Parsons' vocal takes for the first time, as well as other outtakes and rehearsals which document the creation of an album unlike any other.

    Melodies

Originally released on the Sierra label in 1979, Gene Parsons' second solo album Melodies served as somewhat of a comeback for the former Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers drummer after a lengthy recording hiatus. Featuring more of a pop feel and slicker production than his 1963 debut, Kindling, the 10-song set showcases Parsons' multi-instrumental skills on guitar, bass, banjo and drums throughout along with notable contributions from Albert Lee on lead guitar on several tracks. Includes a rendition of Phil Ochs' My Kingdom For A Car and a beautiful take on the Gram Parsons' classic Hot Burrito #1.

    Country Sleep

Welcome to the sound of Winston Yellen and Night Beds, who in one stunning ten-track debut album Country Sleep, have shown that there is plenty of life left in the world of American music if you have the voice, the songs and the gift to touch hearts and souls. Think of a space between Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon), Gram Parsons and the dreamier side of My Morning Jacket; a heavenly place of pure country soul, touched by an endearing innocence and honesty that can only come from someone still in their early twenties.

    Beachwood Sparks

Back In Print On Blue Vinyl

The Beachwood Sparks are space cowboys -- although their self-titled debut most closely recalls the sound of vintage Laurel Canyon country-rock, its shimmering twang-pop melodies and gorgeous harmonies bask in a kind of interstellar psychedelia which lends the album an otherworldly glow. The hypnotically dreamlike instrumental passages which wind their way through luminous country-pop moments like Sister Rose, Something I Don't Recognize, and Old Sea Miner completely transform the album's chemical makeup. Rooted in the earth but reaching for the stars, the group realizes Gram Parsons' Cosmic American music aesthetic in its truest sense.

    Built to Break

Fauss, who was described in Vanity Fair as a cross between Steve Earle and Gram Parsons, recorded the eleven new songs over five months in almost as many cities: Colleyville, Nashville, Dallas and Chicago. the record finds Fauss trading verses with Old 97's frontman Rhett Miller on Eighteen Wheels, a rolling barroom ode to long-distance trucking that simultaneously pays tribute to Fauss' myriad influences: Hank, Waylon, Willie, Cash, Dylan and Emmylou. The centerpiece may be Fauss' honest and austere rendition of the beautiful 2013 Phosphorescent track Song for Zula.

    On The Border

Certified Multi-Platinum (2 times) by the RIAA. (3/01)

On their third album, the Eagles finally produced a No. 1 hit with The Best of My Love, but most of On the Border is marked by tough rockers, not sweet ballads. Already Gone is a brusque kiss-off and Midnight Flyer a bluegrass kicker, while James Dean recalls the '50s rebel icon, and the title track reflects on paranoia and creeping Big Brotherism. The Eagles also cover a Tom Waits tune, Ol' 55, and pay tribute to alt-country godfather Gram Parsons on My Man. The album title is prophetic in the sense that the band that made this record (bolstered by the addition of guitarist Don Felder) was on the verge of greatness, but not quite there yet. --Daniel Durchholz
