Digitally Remastered & Expanded Four 180gm Vinyl LP Pressing In Hard Case

Warm Leatherette represents a watershed moment in the career of Grace Jones. The first of her much loved and critically-lauded 'Compass Point trilogy' it saw the star embrace contemporaneous new wave (The Normal's 'Warm Leatherette', The Pretenders' 'Private Life'), old soul (The Marvelettes' 'The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game' and leftfield rock (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 'Breakdown', Roxy Music's 'Love Is The Drug'). All sounded like nothing you'd ever heard before once Grace had finished with them. This set is a perfect demonstration of players, writers and production team at the very top of their game, headed up by a singular performer reaching the apex of her career to that point.

    Jessie Jones

In 2013, Jessie Jones gave up her possessions, vanished into the nothingness of farm country, and found herself on interstellar overdrive - far away from her Disneyfied home in Orange County. For three years, she had fronted Burger Records' Feeding People, OC's answer to Black Sabbath. The teenage byproduct of gloomy acid trips and gospel choirs, Feeding People released two albums, got signed to Innovative Leisure in 2011, and played Low End Theory with Radiohead's Thom Yorke . The 19-year-old Jones, with her bluesy growl and whimsical melodies, was being compared to Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and Screaming Females' Marissa Paternoster. In 2014, her voice returned to her with primal intent - like the caterwauling echoes of coyotes deep in the Hollywood hills. Earlier this year, Jones began singing with paranormal proto-punk outfit Death Valley Girls, which allowed her to release her demons and find salvation during what Jones describes as the most cosmically ordained project of her life. Reveling in the quantum wobble of her own alternative reality, Jones is now releasing her self-titled debut on Burger Records by channeling the voices in her head; not quite the sanitarium blues of Roky Erickson, but a mÉlange of Jim Morrison mysticism; a more stripped-down MGMT meets early-Grouplove; and Syd Barrett reverie. Under the guidance of producer Bobby Harlow (The Go) and Burger's Studio B, Jones' debut this summer will include guest appearances by drummer Duke Mushroom, violinist Hannah Glass, and Studio B regular King Tuff.

Mrs. Jones' Cookies (Discontinued) (On Sale)

Includes a CD quality digital download of the full album.

Empty Cellar Records presents the latest full-length platter by THE SANDWITCHES, Mrs. Jones' Cookies. San Francisco's Sandwitches have been plugging away at their craft for a couple magical years now, sprinkling their barbed, alluring electric folk briars across unsuspecting gardens in the Bay Area and beyond. Previous releases, such as the swampy ecstasy of How To Make Ambient Sadcake and last year's oceanic ouija board of an EP, Duck Duck Goose!, captured distinct sides of the trio. Mrs. Jones Cookies is here now to unify their uniquely whimsical and creepy vision. Mrs. Jones' Cookies pours Sadcake's plaintive bounce into Duck Ducks celestial, mysterious drift, spiking the mix with a side they've previously only hinted at: a playfulness, a comfort. It's the sound of a band at ease with unease. Even when they're plumbing the most desperate depths, there's an unforced confidence in the lonely plucking of guitarists HEIDI ALEXANDER and GRACE COOPER. The shared vocal duties are where these ladies truly and finally let loose. On 'Lightfoot' and single 'Summer Of Love,' drummer ROXY BRODEUR punches out lively, soul-flecked trots, as Grace and Heidi tickle the end of their high and low ranges, returning later to those highs and lows with extra force and bluster, shooting out the lights with aplomb. The Sandwitches live for moments like this, teasing the listener with deceptively simple backing, then letting fly with soaring vocal saltwater taffy that can be scary, cartoonish, or both. Then, of course, the girls backtrack on a dime and plant a mournful lullaby in your lap, as affecting and otherworldly as you'll ever hear and complete with a wandering flute. Features guest appearances from JAMES FINCH JR., SHAYDE SARTIN, and DIC STUSSO.

Imaginature is HK119 (a.k.a. Heidi KilpelÄinen)'s third album, which is solely inspired by the beauty, power and mystery of nature. This album, produced by Christoffer Berg (The Knife / Fever Ray / Little Dragon, Depeche Mode) is the result of the manifestation of the world Heidi immersed herself in during the making, and the journey that ensued. The multifaceted nature of this project makes visiting it an intriguing and unique experience that urges you to see her live, in performances that have drawn flattering comparisons to the likes of Grace Jones, David Bowie, Nina Hagen and Iggy Pop.

    Nerve Up

LoneLady, AKA Julie Campbell is a self-styled writer, vocalist and tight guitarist. With little more than thorny determination and a shoestring budget, she built a secluded ramshackle studio in the belly of one of Manchester's crumbling mills and created her debut full length album, Nerve Up in the span of four weeks. The aesthetics of this ex-mill were a pure joy for LoneLady, and invoked the ghosts of bands she loves ... (Joy Division, ESG, Wire, Grace Jones, The Fall, Suicide, PiL). Co-produced by Julie and Guy Fixsen (My Bloody Valentine, The Breeders, Stereolab), LoneLady has delivered far more than just an assembly of songs in album form, but the outcome of a process of making something out of nothing.

Shamir is Shamir Bailey, a 20-year-old Las Vegas native who grew
up not on the strip but in the desert. His verve for life makes him
almost impossible to categorize. As a young musician, he moves in
and out of soul, r&b, house, disco, rap, and pop - in the tradition
of artists like Prince, Grace Jones, David Bowie, and Madonna.
Genre is a tool for Shamir, not a boundary. Or as Shamir would put
it, "It doesn't matter what you sound like - you just have to be you."

With an androgyne croon that recalls Nina Simone, Shamir rose
from the suburbs of Vegas after sending demos to Nick Sylvester,
who runs the GODMODE label out of New York. Together they
made Northtown, Shamir's debut EP (2014), and continued their
working relationship for Ratchet, Shamir's first LP for XL Recordings.
It's an ecstatic dance-pop record that also has some dust and age
to it, sparkling with the grit of a desert geode. The songs are about
growing up in Vegas, though not the Vegas you think you know.
The music is fun even when it's mostly introspective, introspective
even when it's mostly fun. There's an obvious fluidity to Shamir. He
transcends boundaries - genre, gender, age, geography. If he feels
solitary, it's because there's literally no one else like him.

Wally Badarou is a French-born synthesizer specialist, and long-time associate of the British band Level 42, known for its blend of funk, pop, soul and rock. He has co-written and performed on a number of the band's tracks since their recording dÉbut in 1980, later co-producing them. Though not an official member, he has long been considered an informal fifth member.

Badarou was one of the Compass Point All Stars (with Sly and Robbie, Barry Reynolds, Mikey Chung and Uziah Sticky Thompson), the in-house recording team of Compass Point Studios responsible for a long series of albums of the 1980s recorded by Grace Jones, Tom Tom Club, Joe Cocker, Mick Jagger, Black Uhuru, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Cliff and Gregory Isaacs. His keyboard playing can also be heard on albums by Robert Palmer, Marianne Faithfull, Herbie Hancock, Talking Heads, Foreigner, Melissa Etheridge, Manu Dibango and Miriam Makeba.

Echoes (1983) is his second solo album, which included Chief Inspector, Hi-Life and Mambo, which was sampled for Massive Attack's Daydreaming of the Blue Lines album. You can actually feel Caribbean sunshine with this music. Badarou breathes real life into his synthesizers on this album of happy, upbeat, and danceable instrumentals.

Acclaimed folksinger Nic Jones' 1980 magnum opus Penguin Eggs features a transcendent 9-song set of traditionals executed with emotional grace and instrumental virtuosity. It was named 'Folk Album of the Year' by both Melody Maker and Froots and is still regarded as one of the greatest folk releases of all-time over 30 years later. Unfortunately Jones' promising musical career would be cut short in 1982 due to a serious car accident, making the brilliant Penguin Eggs his last recording.

    - STEREOGUM

Stone Jack Jones is a survivor. On two separate occasions the rare and mysterious blood
condition that courses through his steely West Virginian veins almost killed him. Doctors couldn't
fully explain or treat his malady, but Jack pulled through, even after receiving last rites on one
occasion. Spending a little time at Death's door gave him unique perspective on life. While
recovering from one of his near death experiences he deeply pondered the necessity of death,
the torturous pain that comes with the death of someone you love, and eventually arrived at the
simultaneously comforting and alarming conclusion that he was both alive and dead at the same
    time.

In 2014 Jack released Ancestor, an album which The Quietus called " breathtakingly insightful
and poetic ", and SPIN called undeniably compelling ". As a tribute to his father, Ancestor
was a remembrance of mountain string bands, with many of the songs worked out as an acoustic
three-piece sitting together in a bluegrass circle. For his new album Love & Torture he took a
different approach, working out the foundations for most of the songs in the studio with producer
Roger Moutenot. Rather than recording everything over of a few days or weeks in the studio, the
two met up sporadically over the course of many months, giving the songs plenty of time to
gestate and evolve in stride with Jack's life. When it felt right, they'd invite long-time collaborators
including Ryan Norris, Scott Martin, and Kyle Hamlett into the studio to improvise and explore
where each song would go next. Having worked and created with the same guys for several years,
their trust and intimacy let them extract moments of brilliance from the ether.

The album opens with the woozy groove of Shine (one of two songs on the album featuring
vocals by Patty Griffin), which Jack describes as a contemplation of what heaven might be like.
The following song Thrill Thrill explores the helplessness he felt in the clutches of the blood
disease that nearly killed him. Lambchop's Kurt Wagner contributes some serious low-end to the
song Circumstance. As Jack recalls, I asked Kurt if he thought he could sing lower than me and
he gave me a wily smile with a deep long ooooh yeah, took a sip of whiskey and put it in the
basement. The mood lightens a bit on the drinking song Russia on which Jack's wife Hollis
chants verses from Russian poet Alexander Blok, while Ben Smythe contributes a frenetic and
deranged penny whistle to the party. The album concludes with the joyful acceptance and
appreciation of Amen, another song about Jack's celebration of life. As dark as his creative
output can seem at times, it's heavily infused with Jack's undeniable light and his patient will to
...knock a hole in the sky. Seek light in the dark. Have secrets and make the air vibrate and
shake reality so she shows her many faces. Like a collection of swirling and inviting mantras
Love & Torture is a sonic dialog that pulses with the all of the grace and bliss that has touched
    Jack's incredible life.

    London Zoo

In Gibson's Neuromancer, when Case and Molly meet the two surviving founders of Zion, there is talk of hearing a mighty dub in the Babel of tongues signaling the final days. If indeed we're living in these end times, as many predict, then there can be no more of an appropriate soundtrack for the coming apocalypse than The Bug's London Zoo.

The Bug is the main project for Kevin Martin, a producer who has headed a diverse range of projects. He is part of Techno Animal, Ice, and God (all with Justin Broadrick of Godflesh and Jesu), King Midas Sound, Razor X Productions (with The Rootsman), Pressure, and Ladybug; runs his Pathological Records label; and has collaborated with noise jazz outfit 16-17, Pete Sonic Boom Kemper's E.A.R. project, John Zorn, Kevin Shields, El-P, and the Antipop Consortium. He has recorded for Rephlex, Position Chrome/Mille Plateaux, Word Sound, Hyperdub, City Slang, Tigerbeat 6, Grand Royal, and now Ninja Tune. He has been personally asked to remix Thom Yorke, Grace Jones, Einsturzende Neubauten, and Primal Scream, and compiled jazz and dub compilations for Virgin Records. London Zoo is the fruition of all these activities.

The album was born of three key moments: an introduction to the thriving dubstep scene (of which The Bug is very much a pioneer from before it carried a name) and its key producers (via Kode 9 and Loefah) where Martin realized there were others on the same sonic trajectory as himself; an introduction to Warrior Queen via his work with Wayne Lonesome on the Razor X Productions project; and a Mary Anne Hobbs Breezeblock session which introduced him to Flowdan (Roll Deep) and Ricky Ranking. All three of these figure heavily in the end result and live presentation.

The obvious entry point to the album is the dubstep tag, particularly after the success of the three lead-up singles, but London Zoo clearly reaches past, brings together, and celebrates reference points from dancehall, grime, hip-hop, and noise-- it could have only come out of London sound-system culture, while its appeal spans cities and scenes.

From the opening strains of Angry (featuring reggae legend Tippa Irie) it's clear that the world has been served notice from the heart of the UK capital. The message is further strengthened as Ranking (best known for his work with Roots Manuva), Flowdan, Warrior Queen, Spaceape, Roger Robinson, Killa P, and Aya step up to lay waste to the boombastic rhythms put before them, eventually culminating in Judgement where Ranking leaves us with a prophecy: So much people are losing their minds, because we're living in a serious time. I guess it come in like a judgment sign, the people have killing on their mind. Living in end times, indeed. Best start building the Marcus Garvey tug now.

    Not Real

Not Real' is the second album by Stealing Sheep which has been written, recorded and produced by band members Becky Hawley, Emily Lansley and Lucy Mercer at their studio in Liverpool. The band met in 2010 and work together creating music and visual art.

The unifying theme of the new album 'Not Real' is an interplay of fact and fiction; the edge of dreams and limits of reality. These visions are grounded by bright melodies and insistent beats and unified by vocal harmonies; sometimes metronomic and chant-like, sometimes choral and pop.

It follows their debut, 'Into the Diamond Sun', released in 2012 by Heavenly Recordings. The first album morphed their individual styles to create a 'medieval-kraut-folk' inspired sound. They were described as an unanticipated 'pagan pop revival' and since its release have toured as guests of Postal Service and Alt-J, opened for St.Vincent in Paris, performed the songs of David Lynch at the Barbican and collaborated with the Radiophonic Workshop on an original soundtrack to the cult 70's science fiction film 'Le Planete Sauvage'.

For the second album they have concentrated on developing the sonic aesthetic of their new music. "We are more focussed about what we are trying to do. Everything has a reason for being there." They have been experimenting with tuned percussion, programmed beats, trigger samples and worked with effected synths, utilising the guitar and lap steel more sparingly and introducing more processed sounds. They've drawn inspiration from 50's exotica, electronic music and 80's pop and have been greatly influenced by the likes of Grace Jones, Can, Delia Derbyshire, Eden Ahbez, Moon Dog and John Carpenter. Grayson Perry's pop-folk art and the band's self-created mythologies were also a source of inspiration for song writing.

This is an alternative pop record that has been 'self-manufactured' by the band. Having learned new skills in the studio over the last years, the band (assisted by Sam Crombie and Joe Wills) have self-produced the album. They have used the studio not only as a writing tool but also as an instrument; experimenting with post production and varying instrumentation and layered textures. "We started off in pre-production doing all the demos ourselves" say's Becky "the demos captured an atmosphere that we wanted to carry forward to the album. The result was a hypbrid of casual takes and more considered recordings

Individual songs on the album have different environments and creatures that go with them, often inspired by the galactic rather than earth-bound imagery. Becky: "I imagine dehumanised worlds, planets with creatures that have evolved in a completely different way

The visual side is highly important to the band, all of whom have art backgrounds. "We like to be involved in all the aspects of the presentation because it's symbiotic to the music." They collaborate with artists and with 'the costumologists', coming up with ideas like "outfits that texturally reflect rhythms" and "frequency triggered, light-up costumes". The colourful and organic album cover, a collaboration between photographer Charlotte Rutherford and collage artist Louise Mason, shows their confident image for this record: as they tread the lines of surreal pop.

There is no stopping the imaginations of Stealing Sheep - but like lucid dreams, these are controlled fantasies and skilfully created worlds. Follow them on a hypnagogic journey as they sing: "listen to yourself and look within".

    Duets II

In a 1965 interview with LIFE, Frank Sinatra said: For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business.
He excites me when I watch him. He moves me. He's the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more.

And for the past sixty-odd years, Tony has been doing exactly that. With 15 Grammy Awards and a multitude of Gold and Platinum status recordings under his arm, this man sure knows how to work those pipes.

Duets II is another collection of American Songbook standards performed in the best of ways.

Duets II includes collaborations with the best voices of music: Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones and k.d. lang grace the recording booth with this legendary singer.
But it is the tragic and premature passing of Amy Winehouse that makes this album truly special; her appearance on the duet 'Body And Soul' is the last known recording of the British songbird, and it is a truly heartrending version of the 1930 jazz classic.

Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol 2) (Awaiting Repress)

    180 Gram Clear Vinyl

This album was spawned by three coinciding events -- the need to acknowledge the death of band co-founder Brian Jones (whose epitaph graces the inside cover) in July of 1969; the need to get Honky Tonk Women, then a huge hit single, onto an LP; and to fill the ten-month gap since the release of Beggars Banquet and get an album with built-in appeal into stores ahead of the Stones' first American tour in three years. The fact that the Stones had amassed a sufficient number of hits since their last greatest-hits compilation in early 1966 (Big Hits: High Tide and Green Grass) made this a no-brainer, and its song lineup was as potent at the time as any compilation of hit singles by any artist. From the group's excursions into fey psychedelia (Paint It, Black, Ruby Tuesday, She's a Rainbow, Dandelion), space rock (2000 Light Years From Home), punk decadence (Mother's Little Helper), and back to straight-ahead rock & roll (Jumpin' Jack Flash), some of it with a topical edge (Street Fighting Man), it's all incredibly potent, though also redundant to the extent that Ruby Tuesday and Let's Spend the Night Together had previously appeared on two U.S. albums. The presence of Honky Tonk Women propelled it to gold record status upon release on both sides of the Atlantic, although the simultaneously released British version (long out of print, except as a bootleg CD) is different and more confusing, but also more diverse and rewarding musically than the American version. Both this album and Big Hits: High Tide and Green Grass have been supplanted by Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks, but are still handy in their tight respective focuses.

    No Fools, No Fun

While she's released five studio albums, sold 40 million albums and won 9 grammys, Norah Jones can't seem to get enough of changing things up! By
our count, this is the 100th recording project with which she's been involved in this short century, so it's safe to say she's a serial collaborator. And she
kills 'em all. Puss N Boots is no different: a trio of like-minded gals that finds Ms. Jones combining forces with pals Sasha Dobson - a fixture on the NYC
singer songwriter scene and a frequent NoJo cohort - and Catherine Popper - a noted bass player who's played with Ryan Adams, Jack White and Grace
Potter - for a fun-filled female trio. Their album NO FOOLS, NO FUN is a com-bo of classic country tunes (Johnny Cash, George Jones covers) and roots
rock pearls (Neil Young, The Band) with more recent alt-country faves (Wilco, Jeb Loy Nichols) and original songs from each of the members that all
simmers together right nice for a proper musical stew.

Transmissions From The Satellite Heart (On Sale)

1993's Transmissions From The Satellite Heart is the Flaming Lips' second release for Warner Bros. and first with guitarist Ronald Jones and drummer Steven Drozd. The band's transition from indie noisemakers to pop provocateurs was magnified tenfold here by the out of nowhere smash She Don't Use Jelly, which was not only their first charting radio hit but heavily rotated on MTV. No one trick pony, the ambitious 11-song set balances further pop fare like Turn It On and extended numbers like Moth In The Incubator and Slow Nerve Action, with an acoustic folk cut in Plastic Jesus, all with a post-modern style and grace.

    The Killing Jar

Black Moth are four super talented individuals, Harriet Bevan - vocals, Jim Swainston - guitar, Dave Vachon - bass, and Dom McCready, battering the crap out of his drums. Formed 2 years ago out of the ashes of Leeds garage rockers The Bacchae, the band were seduced by the brutal and hypnotic lure of the riff, to emerge translucent skinned and bleary eyed from their cocoon as the ferocious kick-ass heavy rock outfit that is Black Moth (see attached scan). Taking a powerful chunk of influence from proto-punk acts such as Iggy and the Stooges, Motorhead and early Alice Cooper as well as a sliver of 90s grunge and stoner rock and a big dose of doom, Black Moth draw out the darker elements and combine them with the heaving riffs of heavy metal giants, Pentagram and Black Sabbath, with hooks so sharp you could hang a corpse on them. They also look to more current acts such as the Melvins, Sleep and Electric Wizard for inspiration, though singer, Harriet Bevan, still maintains a vocal style that evokes the haunting psychedelia of Grace Slick and psych-Satanist, Jinx Dawson from Coven: the woman responsible for the sign of the horns in rock'n'roll. Enter Mr Jim Sclavunos, the multi talented Grinderman and Bad Seed, not to mention the superbaaad connoisseur of the mixing console, fresh from producing the storming second Jim Jones Revue album. One of their shows was all it took. "Black Moth reminds me of my misspent youth" he said. And judging by the all out assault that he's crafted with the Moth, he must have been a very bad boy indeed. The Killing Jar is their debut from New Heavy Sounds and it rocks like a bastard.

An American Classic: Gorgeous Breakthrough Album of Pop Standards Spent More than a Decade on Country Charts

Quintuple Platinum 1978 Set Finds Nelson Interpreting Fare From Likes of Kurt Weill, Hoagy Carmichael, and Irving Berlin

Sumptuous Sound Elevates Booker T. Jones Production: Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

As a Singer, Nelson Never Better: Gets Inside the Phrasing, Lyrics, and Emotions of Songs

Why be predictable?, Willie Nelson asked Columbia Records executive Nick Blackburn, after the latter resisted the Red Headed Strangers decision to make an album of classic pop tunes. Talk about outlaw country. Cutting against the genres traditions and Music Row conventions, Nelsons Stardust remains a genius-level creation as well as the icons most commercially successful release, a truly gorgeous record infused with ultimate respect for composers and lyrics and many of the finest performances of his career. It is a quintessential part of any catalog.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Label LP dazzles with dead-quiet surfaces, tube-like warmth, and an enhanced soundstage. Further exposing the delicate touches abounding in Stax legend Booker T. Jones production, this edition brings out the textured kernels of Nelsons voiceand the deep-seeded dignity, austerity, devotion, grit, sensitivity, grace, and plaintiveness within it. His brilliant phrasing throughout is on par with that of Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, two giants that influenced this project and his willingness to pair with strings and small combo to wondrous effect.

Having met Jones while living in Malibu, Nelson established a relationship with the musician that extended to roles as producer, arranger and band mate. Jones superior knowledge of the American Songbook comes through via the materials economy of scale and sympathetic approach. Acoustic guitar arpeggios, contrasting breaks, bluesy harmonicas, glowing organs, R&B-tinged horns, brushed drums, and relaxed bass lines trickle throughout the songs, all distinguished by Nelsons intimate timbre and absolutely astonishing vocal expressiveness.

In redefining and reimagining standards such as Irving Berlins Blue Skies, Hoagy Carmichaels Georgia On My Mind, and the age-old All of Meall of which landed in the Top 5 of the Country singles chartNelson wedded together pop, country, jazz, folk, and blues in a manner in which no artist had ever before done. He gained considerable rewards for his exquisite efforts: Stardust sold more than five million copies and, incredibly, stayed on the Country album charts for more than ten years.

    Henry Gray

The lustrous Chicago blues scene of the 1950's was predominated by great pianists. Otis Spann, Henry Gray, Johnnie Jones and Sunnyland Slim were among the era's very best. Henry's rolling two-fisted keyboard work graced countless Chicago blues recordings during the '50s for leading labels. Unlike most of his contemporaries there, he was from Louisiana rather than Mississippi-and since 1968, he's been living at his boyhood home just outside of Baton Rouge once again, a stalwart on the swamp blues circuit.

Born in Kenner, Louisiana, Henry arrived in Chicago in 1946, fresh from a stint in the Philippines during World War II. Strongly influenced by ivories master Big Maceo, Henry's rapidly escalating talents were soon in heavy demand. After starting out with Little Hudson's Red Devil Trio, Henry appeared on classic sides by Jimmy Reed, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Rogers, Little Walter, Billy Boy Arnold and Morris Pejoe before joining Howlin' Wolf's combo in 1956 for a 12-year run.

Although Henry's ability on the 88s is renowned worldwide, his warm expressive vocals may come as something of a revelation. There's more than a hint of Henry's Louisiana roots in his music. The brilliant piano style of Henry Gray once represented the very best Chicago had to offer. You know, some things never change. Henry cut 5 songs solo on this direct-to-disc. He plays a Steinway Concert Grand 9' model D.

    Pick Me Up

TRUTH & SALVAGE CO.'s second album, PICK ME UP (Megaforce/Sony RED), is a work that powerfully builds on their stirring blend of rock and Americana introduced on their acclaimed 2010 self-titled debut album. Distinguished by their four lead vocalists and five songwriters, plus soaring four-part harmonies and a strong guitar-keyboard meld, the band co-produced the album this time around with Jon Ashley, while longtime band cohort Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses) handled the mix. It is a joyous tour de force recorded at Echo Mountain studio in Asheville, NC that features 12 original tracks and a cover of Joe South's Grammy-winning 1968 hit "Games People Play." Opening with the plaintive "The Bad Times," the album shifts into high gear with "Silver Lining" and keeps the highlights coming with such songs as "Appalachian Hilltop," "Bird On The Wing," "I'm Not Your Boyfriend," the title track and the rollicking "So Sad."

True to its title PICK ME UP, this is an album that soars. Tim Jones says, "We liked the triple meaning of 'pick me up,' how you could not only be asking someone for a ride, or literally encouraging someone to pick up the album, but also how it's a metaphorical lift, which we were feeling we needed throughout the process." Walker Young adds, "Lyrically we wanted that song to have an inspiring message, it's talking about hope and perseverance in the face of loneliness and just the challenges of everyday life. The sonic mix we ended up getting matches the vibe perfectly, I think. It's definitely a feel-good album we were going for joyous revelry, music that would inspire the heart and mind."

Scott Kinnebrew says the time between their first and second albums helped them grow: "We have had, really, four years since recording our first record and we have been playing our asses off. So we are better players." Adam Grace elaborates: "For this record, we just wanted to record what we do live onstage every night. We kept things loose, had a bunch of fun, and just played and sung our hearts out. The result is a record that shows the real chemistry we share. You can hear it oozing from every song."

    Sara Watkins

Sara Watkins self-titled debut, eagerly anticipated by the significant fan base shes built after nearly two decades as fiddle player and vocalist for Grammy Award-winning trio Nickel Creek, boasts an easygoing virtuosity. The youthful Watkins, who joined Nickel Creek when she was barely in her teens, displays formidable skill as a multi- instrumentalist, playing the guitar and ukelele as well as the fiddle, and is just as versatile, and breathtakingly mature, as a singer. Watkins incorporates folk, country, gospel, and pop into her 14-song set, produced by former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville. Shes joined by a wide range of old friends and longtime heroes, including alt-country duo Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, and Elvis Costello drummer Pete Thomas; colleagues from the bluegrass world like Tim OBrien, Punch Brothers Chris Eldridge, Ronnie McCoury, and Rayna Gellert; and Nickel Creek band-mates Chris Thile and Sean Watkins.

Watkins mixes eight of her own songs with tunes by such artists as John Hartford, Tom Waits, and Davíd Garza. Her self-penned fiddle numbers are exuberant, foot-stomping instrumentals, while the songs for which she wrote both music and lyrics have a heart-meltingly lovelorn quality. Watkins knows how to channel in her own work the plaintive emotions of classic country and timeless pop. Theres honesty and empathy on tracks like the sweetly soulful My Friend, the brooding Bygones, and rueful album closer, Where Will You Be. She proves to be as astute as Emmylou Harris or Linda Ronstadt in her choice of covers, segueing gracefully from the aforementioned Waits, Garza and Hartford to the lighthearted country-and-western swing of Jimmie Rodgerss Any Old Time, to the world-weariness and spiritual yearning of Norman Blakes Lord Wont You Help Me, to the romantic wistfulness of Jon Brions Same Mistakes.
